Reading the opinions of those who hated SMF pt.2 made me question if we had heard the same song. I’m glad I enjoyed it by myself first before I ventured out of my bubble.

Honestly, I don’t understand the complaints. But I’m someone who spent a lot of time listening to Vocaloid music growing up to register a heavy use of vocal processing (or autotune whatever the right term is). I genuinely don’t hear it and think it’s too much. For me, all it does is enhance the tone of the song — it’s aggressive, it’s oppressive, it’s unsettling because it’s supposed to be. It’s dramatic, it’s epic, and as an rpg gamer, I’d love this to be an OST while I go conquer realms in a made up world. A lot of the music I listened to before BTS were game OSTs just like this! It hits all of right spots and is already my SOTY (if Jimin doesn’t top it himself with the rest of his albums lol).

It’s a pre-release song, and while it might not be universally loved, it did get people talking and generated a lot of buzz. Which is what you want ahead of a full *debut* album release. It’s a very deliberate choice.

I love that Jimin went with this. I haven’t loved absolutely everything the boys have put out since 2020, but I love that they’re not going the safe route. The fact that this song has been polarizing is fine by me because not everyone will love your music so might as well do what you want.
