Pretty Proofreader (Ep 9)
Often times, the more essential the job is, the less people know about it. They keep the world spinning without anyone realising until they stop doing it.

Quick J-drama Reviews
I started and finished Jimi ni Sugoi/Pretty Proofreader over the span of about 4 days and it was very fluffy and adorable.  Ishihara Satomi is still very cute and charming onscreen.  It was the perfect, don’t have to think very much, easy-to-watch drama.  I think what I loved the most was Ishihara Satomi’s looks/outfits.  Her wardrobe was very fun, vibrant, and drool worthy.  The romance was a bit lacking to be honest.  It felt pretty platonic despite how many times the couple said they liked each other and I can’t believe all we got was a peck in the special episode.  But this drama was obviously about Ecchan’s journey and the romance was just a small part of it.
I’m also 2/3 through Dame na Watashi ni Koishite Kudasai / Please Love Me and...good for Fukada Kyoko for still booking those romcom lead roles.  In an industry that loves to tote out the next new young (emphasis on young) ingenue, she’s been able to continue playing the female lead even well into her late 30s.  She’s graduated from playing the cute, spunky, somewhat hopeless girl in her 20s into playing the somewhat older but still cute, spunky, somewhat hopeless girl lol.  I have to say, I did NOT have second male lead syndrome at all.  Actually, the whole time she was dating what’s-his-face (sorry I don’t remember his character’s name right now), I was wondering when she was going to get with hot Dean Fujioka who pays off her debt and cooks her breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  But the least believable thing about the drama was Fukada Kyoko being considered an undesirable old lady while still looking exactly like she did in her 20s.  This drama is enjoyable but fair warning, her character might be too naive/dumb for a lot of people in the first few episodes.  After/if I finish this drama, I think I’ll watch her and Kame make out a bunch in Second Love.
Hito wa mitame ga 100 percent / It’s all about the looks had an interesting/fun premise of an introverted female scientist who’s never cared about fashion/her looks researching beauty tips and in the process breaking out of her shell.  However, after a few episodes, the type of hyperbolic humor the drama employed around the scenes of the female scientists doing their beauty research got a bit too much for me.  Plus, it started to feel like the drama was a live action version of the fashion/beauty tip sections of female magazines and they were trying to sell me some product. The male lead/love interest is also not very interesting/fleshed out.  So far, he’s been shown to be stylish and nice.  That’s about it.  I started this drama in hopes of seeing more Machida Keita but he doesn’t show up that much unfortunately.  I also really dislike all the fat/food-related gags they do with the short-haired female character.  This will probably be the second Kiritani Mirei/Machida Keita drama I drop after Sumika Sumire.  I guess I’ll just have to stick to watching Machida Keita in Cherry Magic lol.

I don’t know if I’m the only one like this, and this might be because there aren’t any new ones on Viki, but am I the only person who hates the lighting in J-dramas,like I know it’s not that big of a deal, but it’s really important nowadays for lighting to be set up properly because it sets up the mood for everything.Again could be because I haven’t watched any new jdramas and only watched the ones from like 2013
The good news is you’re not the only one like this! In fact, other people have sent me asks saying the same thing!
I’ve been watching j-dramas lately and it’s true that they are a lot less glossy and have a lower budget feel. It also feels that way for the set locations and the styling of the actors. The two I’ve seen lately are from 2017 and 2018 so they’re fairly new. It might be because the shows actually DO have lower budgets but I’m really not sure.
K-dramas and k-pop are both serious exports for South Korea, and the South Korean government actually funds cultural exports. I’m pretty sure that’s not the case for Japan (or really anywhere else I know of), and so they might just spend less on television shows? I’m just guessing though so if anyone actually knows, please comment!

I love them! Jimi Ni Sugoi aka Pretty Proofreader was a really fun jdrama. What I love about japanese dramas (when are well done) is that they are not only about romance but about personal growth. Plus, you can always trust Ishihara Satomi and Suda Masaki to entertain you.

The guitar line at the beginning is amazing. It’s playful and refreshing! I’m amazed and still don’t get bored of it. Suda’s singing here is perfect too. He knows which verse should be sung in what tone. It’s perfect! Overall it sounds so nice bright and full of energy!
Another song I’d recommend is 「 Sprinter 」composed by Amazarashi, so quality is lit. It blew me away every time I listen. I love suda’s dyamic singing there and Amazarashi’s song arrangement and lyrics xD
