"seria legal se estivéssemos em uma praia agora." começou, em uma forma falha de ignorar o problema. jihyun nunca fora muito boa em resolver situações, especialmente aquelas das quais não tinha controle. "acho que seria legal estar em qualquer lugar que não fosse aqui." uma confissão quase sussurrada conforme a cabeça foi encostando na lateral da semelhante. foram palavras que assombraram jihyun durante anos, apenas por terem sido ditas na última noite em que estavam juntas.

Ongoing generational change... unending girlgroup demises

Popular girlgroups older than five years are continuing to break up, emphasizing the generational change & overall renewal of the Kpop system.

With teenagers mostly dictating the music charts & third-generation idols like Gfriend, Twice & BTS in ascendance, there is an impetus for the current crop to disband.

The new year saw JYP's popular girlgroup Wonder Girls deciding to break up. Sadly, they were followed on February 6 by CJ E&M's 'Lee Hyori's Group' Spica, who has officially announced plans to do the same. Another talented girlgroup is disappearing from the fans' memories.

Consisting of Kim Boa, Park Narae, Yang Jiwon, Kim Bohyung & Park Sihyun, Spica debuted in 2012 with their digital single Doggedly. They gained prominence when their label-mate Lee Hyori, then also from B2M Entertainment, became their producer.

After Lee Hyori left the agency, Spica released You Don't Love Me & Tonight before transferring to CJ E&M. Last August, they promoted with Secret Time but weren’t successful.

Their agency is in the process of disbanding Spica. They said: "There is still a contract period left, & we are discussing future activities with each member."

Earlier, JYP Entertainment announced Wonder Girls's breakup on January 26, dismaying the fans.

They said: "Yoobin & Hyelim have renewed their contracts, & will showcase new sides in music, acting & emceeing in the future. After much deliberation, Yeeun & Sunmi decided to strike out & have sadly left our agency."

The members expressed their gratitude to the fans who supported them for the past ten years. They are releasing their final digital single on February 10 to mark their tenth anniversary.

Wonder Girls, who recorded many hit songs like Tell Me & Nobody, had returned home after making some progress in the USA.

Last June, Cube Entertainment's popular girlgroup 4minute also disbanded after four members left the agency.

At the time, they differed about management rights & decided to disband, disappointing the fans. Since then, ex-members like Nam Jihyun are seeking to bounce back with new management & acting roles.

The girlgroup Rainbow was another unfortunate case. They were filled with talented members, yet never won 'No. 1'. They saddened the fans by disbanding late last year, their exclusive contract failing to survive the 'Seven Year Jinx'.

Debuting in 2009 with DSP Media, they were touted to be on par with illustrious predecessors Fin.K.L & Kara. After promoting for 7 years, they were known for not winning once on the music shows.

Ex-member Cho Hyunyoung, who is returning to acting, said in a recent press interview: "Rainbow hasn't broken up, but is stopping promotions for now" as a testimony to the deep friendship among the members.

YG Entertainment's girlgroup 2NE1 also disbanded at the end of last year. Park Bom & Minzy left the agency. CL is now promoting as a solo singer in the USA.

On January 21, the agency released 2NE1's final song 'Goodbye' to convey the reluctant separation among the members.

In addition, Miss A's Jia & Secret's Han Sunhwa have also quit, jeopardizing their groups' prospects & distressing the fans.
