“Seriously though,” Cleo starts after a few more steps of comfortable silence. “She hasn’t left your side since we got here. She your bodyguard or something? Stalker? Clingy girlfriend?” And like the first few raindrops of an afternoon shower, JJ feels the dread start to pool again. Because of course he’s noticed how Kie only ever wants to go with him to collect supplies after Pope introduced the buddy system rule. Of course he’s noticed her body inching closer and closer to his after every sleepless night. If he thinks about it for more than two seconds, he knows exactly what that sinking feeling in his stomach means, what it meant earlier today for him to completely check out of the conversation at the first sign of any of the other Pogues noticing the things he’s noticed. If John B has started to catch on? Then it can’t just be his imagination. Something is different with Kie. With him and Kie.

Jiara soulmate au 😌

In a world where your soulmate’s treasured belongings begin showing up amongst your own, JJ Maybank has never given the implication much thought, especially with his own parents failed soul-match hanging over him. He figures even if he does have a soulmate out there somewhere, they’re better off without him. At least that’s what echoes through his mind in a voice that sounds eerily similar to that of Luke Maybank. Besides, JJ has bigger things to worry about - like surviving a six-week surf trip with the girl he’s secretly head over heels for.

Kiara Carrera is almost 18 and still she doesn’t have a soulmate. If she’s being honest, she isn’t really interested in having one anyways, since she’s accepted the fact that she is utterly and irrevocably in love with her best friend. Which doesn’t matter, because the feelings are certainly not mutual and there’s no way fate could ever be so kind. Now, she just has to make it through the next six weeks without letting her true feelings show.

Nine days into the trip of their lives, somewhere on the coast of Yucatán, JJ thinks he’s doing a pretty good job of not being madly in love with Kie. But then, why is her beloved hand-painted ukulele in his duffel bag? And where the hell did his trusty zippo get to?

The plane has three seats on one side, and two on the other. She looks down at her ticket. 17D. A window seat. There’s one open spot, and a messy, blonde head of hair sitting next to it, glowing in the last of the daylight cutting through the plane’s windows. The guy, because it is a guy with the shining golden mop, looks up and sees her walking down the aisle toward him. His eyes are a clear, cutting blue, and the minute they lock onto hers, she feels like she’s seen him before, like she’s known him all her life. Some odd part of her sees this stranger and relaxes completely, her heart sighing ‘oh, hello. It’s you.’ ----- Kiara has been coerced by her mother into coming home from her world travels for Christmas, and meets a handsome (and oddly familiar) stranger on the plane. JJ’s been deep-sea fishing in Alaska and has been dragged home to the OBX by his buddies for the holidays. They end up having more in common than they might think.
