I think I'll take my noodles spicy
synopsis: You stop by Jiaoqiu's stall to try his noodles. They are very. Spicy. tags: jiaoqiu x reader, gn!reader, written before Jiaoqiu's release a/n: I think the reader is clearly a masochist. Also I don't know why I added that undertone of loneliness for Jiaoqiu, I think it's very out of character for him, but I decided to have a little fun since he isn't out yet. 700 words!
ao3 link here!
On a summer afternoon in the Xianzhou, you decided to stop by a well-known noodle stall and order some noodles.
The Foxian man standing on the other side of the counter smiled as he slid the bowl of noodles over to you.
There was a flash -- something mischievous glinted in his eye -- and then it was gone. You had heard conflicting opinions from people about this man. Half of them told you to stay away from him, and the other half said he was a miracle worker, if a little unorthodox.
Jiaoqiu was a healer, and you weren't sick, but you did want to try his renowned cooking.
The bowl of noodles smelled delicious as the steam wafted up towards you, and you happily picked up a few strands with your chopstick and deposited them into a deep spoon filled with broth, before slurping the entire spoonful. You could see his ears flick a little as he watched you intently.
He certainly was as handsome as the women claimed he was. It seemed that everything he did, he did it with that soft yet strange smile on his face.
It didn't hit at first. But then you felt heat crackle at the back of your throat, burning you from the inside. Tears sprang to your eyes, and you coughed, covering your mouth with your sleeve.
"How do you like it?" Jiaoqiu asked, still with that smile on his face, which, in this moment of deep betrayal, you realized to be anything but sweet.
"It's a little--" you coughed, choking on the "--spicy."
"Just the way it's meant to be enjoyed," he said, his tail swaying from side to side behind him. Despite the burning heat, the noodles were very good, and you watched yourself in horror as you raised some more rice noodles to your mouth (you avoided drinking any more of the broth to reduce the pain).
"It's a little mix that I made myself. I find that a good hit of spice will clear your sinuses and flush your system." Jiaoqiu continued.
"You don't say," you half-said, half-cried as tears streamed down your face.
"Yes, I believe in the power of spice to ail the sick," Jiaoqiu said, passing a box of tissues. You gladly took one, blowing your nose. The spiciness was numbing your lips, and you panted in an attempt to cool your mouth, which felt as though it was set aflame.
It was clear now, despite his good looks, why you often saw him alone. His cooking probably scared off anyone who was initially interested in him. You continued to eat the noodles, slurping them up despite the fact that each time you did so a part of you caught fire and died inside.
It was so spicy. And yet, so good.
And Jiaoqiu watched you intently the entire time, lazily resting on his hand through lidded eyes and slit pupils, like a hunter watching his prey flail in vain in his trap. It wasn't just your mouth, but his attention was setting your skin on fire.
Finally, you finished the bowl of noodles, pushing it in front of you. It felt as though you were breathing steam, and you mostly felt glad that it was all over.
"Did you enjoy your meal?" Jiaoqiu asked, smiling innocently as though he'd done nothing wrong.
"Y-yes," you said. Despite the torture you just went through, the flavor of the noodles was unlike any other. Jiaoqiu was deserving of his status as a famous cook.
"Here," he said, rising from the counter and moving to the back, "have some chilled Puffergoat milk. It'll help with the burning." You graciously accepted the ice-cold jar of thick milk, and gulped it down, sighing with relief as it washed away all the heat and pain from before. You set it down with a satisfied hum.
"I hope you'll come by to visit my stall again," Jiaoqiu said, rising. There was a hint of deflation, as though he were sad to be left alone again.
"Another, please," you said. He whirled around, ears perked up in surprise.
"What was that?" he asked.
"I'll have another bowl of noodles," you said, grinning.
"Really? I thought the first put you through quite some duress," he said.
"Well, so long as I keep drinking this throughout," you said, gesturing to the jar of milk at your side, "I can continue to enjoy your beautiful cooking."
Jiaoqiu blinked, then smiled, turning towards his pot and reaching for the ladle. As he scooped more soup into a bowl for you, you watched as his tail swayed from side to side.

how do we get a picky eater to eat green peppers?
being a picky eater isn't easy, especially when you have a sly fox like jiaoqiu in your kitchen.
you think you're safe when you see a simple, mouthwatering dish; but with him, there's always a catch. beneath the savoury aroma of perfectly cooked meatballs or the comforting warmth of a soup, he hides the things you avoid —finely diced peppers, a hint of spice, or icky vegetables you swore you’d never touch.
jiaoqiu doesn’t say a word, but the way his ears twitch gives him away. he watches with a subtle, knowing grin as you take a bite, waiting for you to realize what he’s done. though by the time you do notice, it’s already too late. despite your best efforts, the subtle icky flavour of green peppers have already permeated your taste buds.
“you didn’t even notice, did you?” he teases, his voice laced with mischief.
you shoot him a glare as you reluctantly finish the dish, the flavours blending together so seamlessly that you almost forget what you were trying to avoid in the first place. (seems like his culinary skills managed to win you over once again)
“that’s not very polite of you, doctor.”
jiaoqiu’s smile widens at your response. “ah, come on now,” he says, feigning a hurt expression. “it's all in good fun. besides, you know those peppers are packed with vitamins. it’s good for you.”
you let out an exaggerated sigh, your irritation still simmering. “well, just because your dish turned out good, don’t think i’m letting you off the hook that easily,” you say, rolling your eyes, though a small smile tugs at the corners of your mouth.
jiaoqiu only chuckles at your response, clearly amused. “i see how it is,” his tone taking on a teasing lilt as he steps a little closer, “you best stay on your guard then, dearest.”
“how do we get a picky eater to eat green peppers?” the answer is quite simple. chop the peppers and mix them with minced meat to make meatballs, allowing the meat’s flavor to mask the peppers so even your fussy spouse can enjoy them.
how do we get a stubborn doctor to drink his medicine?
being a doctor isn't easy, especially when you’re injured and your partner is more worried about your own health than you are.
“qiu’er, i’m back!” the sound of your voice instantly draws his attention, he turns his head in your direction, the subtle rustle of sheets accompanying his movement. the bed dips slightly under your weight as you settle beside him, the warmth of your presence soothing. “here, i brought you some tea,” you murmur.
“careful, it’s hot.” you gently lift the cup to his lips, the steam rising and carrying with it the sweet, spiced scent of cinnamon —he immediately notices the strong overpowering smell right away.
ah… cinnamon? so you took his advice from years ago, but unfortunately a fox’s senses are sharper than most.
his nose scrunches slightly as the liquid gently brushes against his lips. “spiked my tea with something, dearest?” you pause, setting the cup down with a soft clink. though just as you’re about to retort, his hand reaches out, searching for you with a gentle touch. his fingers graze your arm, then find your hand, which he clasps with a tender grip.
“cinnamon is excellent for masking strong odors and is even used to conceal the scent of poison... but you wouldn’t be so cruel to me, would you?” he remarks with a playful smile, though there’s an ironic edge to his words, given his current condition.
you let out an exasperated sigh, “you wouldn’t take your medicine, qiu’er. i never thought you’d be such a stubborn doctor.”
he chuckles softly, the sound low and a little raspy. “stubborn? i prefer ‘selective.’” his grip on your hand tightening ever so slightly. “and i chose to have you as my doctor.”
“if it means i get to be the one who takes care of you, then i’ll gladly accept that,” you reply, giving his hand a reassuring squeeze. “now get some rest —doctor’s orders.” you help him settle back on the bed, careful not to accidentally press on his bandaged wounds, before gently pulling the sheets up to cover him.
you lean down to kiss the crown of his head, running your fingers through his hair in a soothing, rhythmic motion. “i’m only following your orders, baobei,” he mumbles softly, his words trailing off as he drifts into a peaceful sleep.
today the sun may blaze brightly in the sky, but its brilliance fades next to the warmth of your smile, a light that, though he may not be able to see, touches his heart more profoundly than the brightest day ever could.
how do we get a stubborn doctor to drink his medicine? easy. disguise it in a comforting cup of tea, masking the bitterness with cinnamon, so even he won’t notice until it’s too late. of course, your tricks never really fool him, but he lets you win anyway.
homeboy has been through so much

ᥫ᭡ Hidden Eyes — “Stop trying to deny it. You must understand that rest is essential to every form of life. You are no exception.” Jiaoqiu x GN reader.
Word count: 1.8k
Contains: Jiaoqiu x GN reader, fluff, subtle jealousy, protective Jiaoqiu (in a good, non-toxic way!), light teasing, clingy Jiaoqiu, kisses, long cuddles, Jiaoqiu taking care of reader, + more!
Rousing from your slumber with a pounding headache, you sit up in the unfamiliar environment and groan. No matter what you do to recall your previous whereabouts nothing comes to mind. A knitted blanket covers you, and your head is propped against a plush pillow. After batting your lashes a few times to clear the haze cast over your eyes, you are able to make out that you’re inside a living space of some sort.
Overhearing the shuffling in the other room, Jiaoqiu turns the heat down on the stove and saunters into your view, an apron snugly tied around his slim figure. He greets you with his usual friendly smile, now approaching your resting body. Crouching down, he presses his hand to your forehead, his tail swaying slowly behind.
“Didn’t I tell you to stop over-exhausting yourself?” He feigns disappointment, letting his breath breeze down onto your face.
“I haven’t done anything to be exhausted.”
“Stop trying to deny it. You must understand that rest is essential to every form of life. You are no exception.”
“But—”
“I ordered you to stay in bed and you go out on a date the next day. Don’t be ignorant.” He opens his eyes, glaring at you while his lips remain in that pleasant expression. Though his smile seems sweet, his gaze is a threat.
“A date?” You raise a brow, unaware you had gone out with another person, let alone left your house this morning.
“Hm?” Jiaoqiu cocks his head to the side, tapping his index finger against your cheek. “You don’t remember?”
“No. Who was I—”
“Never mind.” Jiaoqiu drags out his speech, squishing your face before standing up straight. “Your soup should be done!”
Jiaoqiu had always had an unsettling energy around him. Upon meeting him a few months ago, you had noticed his strange behaviour patterns, though no one else did. It may just be in your head; you have a common issue with judging new people in your life too harshly. Trusting a stranger takes a lot of effort, but since becoming acquainted with Moze, you realise that the image you crafted of Jiaoqiu may be a spout of nonsense. He has nothing bad to say about him, he praises his work ethic and commitment. For someone who always presents himself so content, there must be some facade in place.
It didn’t take long for you to become friends with both men. They were welcoming and extremely kind; even Feixiao had surprised you with her demeanour behind closed doors. Knowing you have a group of people to fall back on when things get rocky is reassuring. Having a person like Jiaoqiu in your life is a bigger benefit than it is a drawback. Your health is his main concern, making it clear that it should always be your priority above all else. It’s a topic he doesn’t deal with lightly.
With the steaming bowl of soup in hand, Jiaoqiu returns to his living space and kneels beside you. When you went to free your arms from the swaddle you’re in, he held you down, shaking his head. Raising the soup spoon, he brings it towards your lips, waiting for an opening.
“I’ll do this since you can’t follow simple instructions.” His tone was snappy, his ears flopping down while he rubbed the spoon against your closed lips. The smell of the soup was enticing, prepared to the standard of all of his other meals.
“I can feed—”
When you opened your mouth wide enough, he inserted the spoon and dumped the liquid in, grinning at you when you swallowed it. Since you are too tired to protest, you accept defeat and comply with his demands, drinking the soup as he feeds it to you.
“Is it tasty?” Jiaoqiu rubs his thumb over the small spill travelling down your jaw, licking the remnants from his fingers.
“It’s nice. You already know that.”
“The chef appreciates your compliments.” Jiaoqiu hums, stroking your face with two fingers.
Whether it be the heat of the soup or the tenderness in his touch, you felt yourself becoming warm. You began squirming under the blanket, the bowl of soup almost empty. After the final few spoonfuls, he places the leftovers on the coffee table and takes you into his arms. You whine, nuzzling your face into his chest.
“I know. You’ll be in bed soon.” He speaks quietly, trekking up the stairs and pushing his bedroom door open with his back.
Lowering you carefully, he lies you on the mattress and covers you over with the duvet. Undoing the bow on his apron, he tosses it into the laundry basket and climbs in beside you. Dragging you over, he wraps an arm around you and holds you in his embrace, his tail brushing up and down your leg in a soothing motion.
“Get some sleep. I’ll watch over you. We’ll see how you are in the morning.” His lips are pressed against your neck when he talks, the movement almost feeling as though he is pampering you with tender kisses. Perhaps he was, but you don’t feel the need to raise attention to it when it feels so good. Within seconds, you fall back into a deep slumber.
With your droopy head hanging low, he supports you with an arm and wraps himself around you, burying his nose into your flesh. Jiaoqiu loved your scent. It bothers him when you’re away for too long, always lingering on his mind. No matter what he does to replicate it, he can’t craft it to perfection. Burning different candles, sniffing perfumes you use—anything he could think of led to failure. It would explain why he’s been lingering around for longer than he would usually.
While his recent observations have been unknown to you, it grew increasingly harder for him to leave you alone. He would never want to scare you by admitting all of this—none of his actions carry ill intent. He simply believes you wouldn’t understand his reasoning due to you being human.
It was when you were at the food market that he noticed a shift in your scent. A smell of death. The day prior, you had received a rough blow to the head in battle which had left you tremendously dizzy. It took you two hours to stand, and even then you were still clinging onto his clothes for support. He gave you medicine and advice which seemed to go in one ear and slip out of the other. While with the dark-haired man who was accompanying you, you stumbled backwards and collapsed to the ground before he could catch you. That’s when Jiaoqiu decided to reveal himself from the shadows and usher you back to safety.
That barely present beat of your pulse was something he’ll never forget. He should’ve known you wouldn’t take your medicine; you’re usually one to forget things like that. You were ice cold in his arms, fingernails darkening to an almost navy shade. Seeing corpses was not uncommon, but seeing your corpse was something he knew he wouldn't be able to handle. He just wishes that you’d listen to him. While he’s not angry at you, it still upsets him that you disregard your health so easily like that. The warmth you radiate now brings him comfort; he keeps his face buried in the crook of your neck, waiting there as time ticks throughout the evening.
Unsure of how many hours have gone by, you stretch out your legs and reach to rub your eyes, only to find another hand with its fingers linked between yours. Jiaoqiu’s soft breathing was directly down your ear, his hand squeezing yours as he mumbled something barely audible. You knew Jiaoqiu was touchy, but the position you found yourself in made you flustered.
“Morning…” He whispers, kissing the side of your face. His voice was raspy and his tail was still brushing against your skin.
“How long was I out?”
“Nearly eight hours. You slept through the entire night.” Even though you’re conversing, he doesn’t release you from the cuddle he trapped you in.
“Can you tell me what happened?”
“To you? Yesterday?”
“Yes. Why am I here?”
“Mm, I saw you unconscious at the food market. Your dark-haired friend didn’t know what to do with you, so I told him I’d handle it.”
“Dan Heng?”
“How could I forget?” Jiaoqiu responds, his voice laced with sarcasm while he pulls you close. “I’ve heard a lot of that name from you.”
“Well, he—”
“I wasn’t asking to hear more.” Jiaoqiu nips you with his canines, earning a small yelp. “What I want to know is why you didn’t take your medicine. Do you know how dangerous that is?”
“I was going to take it when I got back home from shopping…”
“No. You take it at the time I tell you to. There are reasons behind it.”
“Did I make you mad?”
“I’m not angry; I was worried about you. I’m tired of seeing you push yourself to the side. You’re just as important as anyone else in your life. Other people can wait when you need to put your health first.”
His chest falls as he exhales, hurling you upwards to rest his lips on the top of your head.
“All I want you to do is listen. I’m not yelling at you.”
“I’ll listen. I promise.” You smile at him, watching as he closes his eyes from the relief of hearing those words. “You’re awfully clingy today.”
“I can’t help it. You made me sick with nerves; my emotions are not behaving as they should be.”
“Besides…” Jiaoqiu trails off, redirecting the topic of conversation. If you’re going out for food, just come to me instead. I have the superior options.”
“You just want me to be around you so you can make sure I’m okay.”
“Is that such a bad thing? I thought you’d appreciate the fact I care for your well-being. And for your knowledge,” Jiaoqiu leans his face closer to yours, “I would’ve caught you before you hit the ground. Foxian reflexes are like no other.”
He pouts before connecting his lips with yours, sharing a brief peck momentarily until he backs off. His thumb rubs under your lower lip, his eyes widening as he sees your smile grow. Repositioning himself, he pushes down on you and engulfs you in his desire with another kiss.
It was both fiery and packed with raw emotion, his trembling hand stroking your cheek. You have no idea about the amount of dire situations you wind up in, but those near-death moments are something that will forever haunt him. As the kiss breaks, you feel his tail batting against your leg rapidly, his ears twitching from thrill.
“I have some more medical advice. Are you going to listen to it this time?”
“Tell me.”
“Based on my judgement, I think it would be best if you stayed here and got proper rest for the next few days. Cancel your plans and let me take care of you. You’ll be better before you know it.”
“You cancel for me.” You reach into your pocket and pull out your phone, “Hearing a doctor’s note directly from the source would cut the hassle.”

You watch as the pink-haired Foxian in front of you stirs his ramen pot, his movements graceful and practiced. Jiaoqiu ladles the broth into a deep bowl, then collects some cold rice noodles from another bowl to the side. He stirs the noodles into the bowl gently, letting the broth heat up and cook the noodles, then slides the bowl of noodles across the counter to you.
"Just as you usually enjoy it, m'lady." He bows, smiling charmingly at you as he does.
"Thank you, Jiao," you say, pulling the bowl towards yourself. The steam of the broth wafts up to you, hot and heavy, giving you a taste of what’s to come. Just as you raise a clump of noodles to your lips with your chopsticks, someone slides into the seat besides yours. Someone dangerously familiar.
"Well, well, well. Look who we have here!"
"If it isn't Sampo Koski," you say, lowering your chopsticks.
"The one and only! You know it, baby." Sampo grins. "And don't you look absolutely ravishing today, miss." He picks your hand up and kisses the back of it, earning himself a giggle from you. "How has this beautiful lady been?"
You shrug, giving him the usual answer. Fine, good, nothing much has happened in your life. And Sampo isn't the type you'd share juicy gossip with anyway. He’s prone to selling that kind of information off if it suits him.
"I didn't expect to see you here in the Xianzhou," you say.
"My business takes me places. You know how it is." He winks.
Just as you’re about to mention how thick he’s laying it on, a loud crack startles you both. Jiaoqiu has slapped his hand fan on the counter.
"And will you be ordering, sir?"
"Oh, yes, of course. You wouldn't catch old Sampo Koski loitering around, bringing bad business."
The two men grin at each other, charming smiles all around, although you can feel a charge in the air. Their smiles are a little colder than you've seen them before.
"I'll have what she's having," Sampo says, pointing to you.
"Oh, be careful Sampo," you say, "his noodles are really spicy."
"Oh don't you worry your pretty little head," Sampo chuckles. "I'm a man, I can handle a little spice."
"And besides," he continues, leaning in and whispering, "this guy doesn't scare me one bit. He might be all bark but I doubt he's got a lot of bite, even in his food."
The two of you chuckle, but you watch Jiaoqiu's ears flick in annoyance. Sampo’s digging himself a deep hole.
In fact, one could call it a grave.
"Here you go, sir," Jiaoqiu says, passing a bowl of noodles to Sampo. "Please enjoy as much as you can."
"We'll take a bite together then," Sampo says to you, as the two of you raise your noodles from your bowls. "Three, two, one."
You slurp up your noodles, and let out a small moan. Heavenly. You expected nothing less from Jiaoqiu, of course, but the taste of his noodles never got boring. It’s rich, sweet, and deep, with a tingle of spice, as you always prefer. Jiaoqiu only kept his noodle stall open for a few hours a day but you made sure to mark the times and get yourself a helping whenever you felt like it. You smile up at him.
"Amazing as always, Jiao."
"You flatter me too much," Jiaoqiu says, fanning himself.
You hear sudden coughing at your side, and you turn to find Sampo hacking away, his face red.
"Sampo! Are you okay?" you ask.
"I-I'm fine, miss," he wheezes. "It's just a little...spicy is all."
"Oh—" you turn to look at Jiaoqiu, who’s hiding the lower half of his face behind his handfan, watching Sampo flounder with slitted pupils. You look back at Sampo, making no remark.
"This—" Sampo coughs again, "—this is a lot of spice."
"Only as much as hers," Jiaoqiu says, gesturing to your own bowl. "You asked for what she had and I gave it to you."
You slurp up your own noodles, and Sampo watches as you swallow with no reaction.
"If you're as much of a man as you claim to be, I think you should be able to handle what she's eating with no problem," Jiaoqiu continues.
"I can, yeah. This is nothing." Sampo grins at you, although you can see his eyebrows furrowing together. You only nod at him, then glance at Jiaoqiu as if to say how could you? Jiaoqiu only winks at you as Sampo musters up the courage to take another bite.
The rest of lunch you enjoy in silence, as Sampo is too busy wrestling with the spice he was given to make any further conversation, and Jiaoqiu isn't one for small talk. To Sampo's credit, he manages to finish the bowl, and by the end of it he looks as though he’s been through war. The two of you leave the stall together as Jiaoqiu closes up, and you notice Sampo giving the Foxian a dirty look.
△ △ △
It was only a few days later you found yourself in Aurum Alley, perusing the wares. A flash of soft pink catches your eye, and you turn to find Jiaoqiu wandering towards you, fan in hand.
"Fancy seeing you here," he purrs.
"Jiaoqiu? I thought you'd be managing your stall," you say. It isn’t yet the time for him to close.
"I would be, yes." Jiaoqiu flaps his handfan rapidly in front of his face, a sign of irritation.
"Apparently my supplier for the peppers I use in my cooking ran into a bit of an issue. They made a… ‘bad trade.’ All of their peppers are inedible. Therefore, I have nothing to make my noodles with."
"I see," you muse. The situation he described rings a bell, yet you can’t place your finger on it. "That's unfortunate."
"They'll have a new shipment by the next week. I trust they won't make the same mistake again." Jiaoqiu stares off into the distance, anger bubbling under his lidded gaze. But the show of annoyance is shrugged off almost as fast as it came, and he turns to you with his trademark smile.
"Anyway, I won't bother you with unpleasant details." He offers his elbow to you. "Shall we take a stroll?"
You hook your arm in it, smiling at him.
"Where are you going?" A voice comes from behind you, and both of you turn to find Sampo standing as though he'd been there the whole time, hands behind his back.
"Sampo!" you exclaim. Out of the corner of your eye you notice Jiaoqiu flatten his ears.
"Sorry if I scared you," Sampo smiles apologetically. "I was just too excited to see you."
"And look!" He brandishes a bouquet of flowers from behind his back, handing them to you. "I got these for you~"
"Oh, you shouldn't have," you say, taking them. Behind you, Jiaoqiu's tail thrashes from side to side.
"Oh, but who could resist giving such a lovely lady as yourself equally lovely flowers?" Sampo bows, then straightens.
"I see your companion has yet to give you anything.” Sampo turns towards Jiaoqiu. "Not very thoughtful of you, I must say.”
"I was about to take her on a stroll when you so rudely interrupted us." Jiaoqiu glares—glares—at Sampo.
"Really? That reminds me, aren't you supposed to be managing your stall right about now? Run into any... mishaps?" Sampo leans in, a challenging look in his eyes that is at odds with his placid expression.
"It's none of your business." The way Jiaoqiu waves his fan makes you worried he might break his wrist.
Sampo puts his arms up in mock surrender, then turns to you.
“Well, since I got you the flowers, you wanna go out on a walk with me?”
“I asked her first! And she accepted,” Jiaoqiu protests.
“But clearly I have more merit behind my offer,” Sampo argues.
“How about the two of you go out on a walk with me,” you say, getting in between them.
The two men look slightly miserable as they walk you down Aurum Alley. Of course, they don’t want to both be walking you but they can’t say no to your face, so here you all are. Being sandwiched between two attractive men, however, you can’t complain.
“Oh!” you gasp, breaking away from them to look at a food stall. “I’m really craving some skewers right now.”
“Consider them bought,” Jiaoqiu smiles. As he moves forward, Sampo stands in his way.
“I’ll buy you two,” Sampo offers you.
“I’ll buy you as much as you want, m’lady,” Jiaoqiu says, but it feels like he isn’t talking to you directly. The two of them are locked in a death stare with each other.
“Err… you can buy them for me Jiaoqiu,” you say. “I’ll make good on your offer later, Sampo.”
Jiaoqiu smirks at Sampo as he moves past him, but thankfully Sampo seems placated enough by your words to let him pass. You keep a laugh to yourself. Out of all the things, you didn’t think you’d ever have to stop Sampo from spending money on you.
Jiaoqiu comes back with the skewers, and you eat them quietly, savoring their sweet taste. The three of you keep walking down Aurum Alley, with you trying to keep the peace between the two men at your sides. They’re proving to be a lot more trouble than you had bargained for.
As the three of you come to the end of Aurum Alley, Jiaoqiu produces a small box from his pocket.
“You know, I don’t want us to continue on bad terms, Mr. Sampo. Accept this as a peace offering from me.”
Sampo raises an eyebrow at him, scrutinizing the box in his hands. Carefully, he decides to open it.
“You don’t trust me? I’m heartbroken,” Jiaoqiu puts a hand over his heart in mock shock.
“I’m sure you can forgive me for my suspicion,” Sampo says, pulling a small bottle out of the box.
“It’s only perfume. A gentleman of your caliber must be interested in such things.”
“Of course,” Sampo says, pocketing the bottle. “I appreciate your act of goodwill. Consider our slate cleaned.”
They smile at each other, and you’re certain that they’re now amicable.
△ △ △
The next day, however, you hear a knock on your door. You open it to find Sampo. You aren’t sure how he knows where you live, but your immediate concern is less on what he knows and more on how his eyes are red and tearing, and the expression on his face of deep anger.
“Where is that fox?” he asks.
You shake your head, letting him through. He splashes water on his face, and on his neck.
“What happened to you?” you ask.
“It’s that damn ‘perfume’ he gave me. Or rather, pepper spray.” He splashes water on his face again. “Peace offering, my ass.”
You move your hand up to your face in shock. After a lot of washing and rubbing, he removes enough of the spray, and stands up. You hand him a towel to dry off with.
“Now, darling, if you’d be so kind to tell me where he lives.”
“I honestly have no clue,” you say, and you’re speaking the truth. You only ever see Jiaoqiu either at his stall, or throughout the Xianzhou. With him being unable to sell ramen for the next few days, you don’t know of a place where you’d be able to find him reliably.
“That’s okay, I’ll find him myself. You wouldn’t want to watch us anyway. It’s going to get real nasty.”
Sampo smiles at you, and then walks out of the house, the door clicking shut behind him. You groan, putting a palm on your forehead.
△ △ △
For the next few days, neither man interacts with you. Whenever one gets close enough, the other would immediately sabotage him, leaving you to witness a fight out of the corner of your eye. For two non-confrontational men, it surprises you. You didn’t expect them to behave this way.
Regardless, you go on about your day, ignoring them. You aren’t one for ungentlemanly behavior.
One day, you receive a knock at your door. You open it to find both Sampo and Jiaoqiu standing behind it.
“Miss, we need you to decide,” Sampo says.
“Which one of us would you go out with?” Jiaoqiu finishes.
You look between them.
“Well, you see—” you start.
“The young lady is already spoken for tonight,” a deep voice rumbles behind them.
Sampo and Jiaoqiu turn around to find Jing Yuan. Immediately they straighten.
“Oh, I see.” Jiaoqiu says, fixing a peaceful smile on his face and bowing. “My apologies, general.” Sampo, not to be outdone, bows as well.
When the two stand back up, the general nods to each of them, smiling politely.
You observe all three men with deceptively gentle smiles on their faces, and realize that you have a very strong type. With a sigh, you step out the door and take the general’s hand, and the two of you walk into the night.

Bottom afab Jiaoqiu/Top amab Reader
You and Jiaoqiu first indulge in an aphrodisiac-laced stew he cooked up, before enjoying each other’s bodies.

AFAB language used for Jiaoqiu
——————————————
“Ah, you’re here, master.” The pink-haired Huli Jing greeted you with a polite smile. In front of him, a savoury, creamy brew was boiling and bubbling gently in its metal pot over the flame. “Apologies, the soup isn’t finished yet.”
You gave him a polite nod, as you sat down at the table and straightened your robe. “Don’t worry about it, A-Qiu.” His tail raised up and swished happily at the pet-name. “What are we having tonight?”
“A creamy stew with coconut milk and bamboo strips.” Jiaoqiu paused, as he reached for something on the spice shelf, his hand hovering above a vial with a pink powder. His ears twitched in what you recognised as giddy anticipation. “… I wasn’t sure about your mood tonight, master, so I didn’t put anything in yet.”
You blinked at him, keeping your face and posture straight, as if he was just a child that thought its plan to trick its parents was exceptionally smart. “I don’t mind, A-Qiu. Put whatever you’d like into our stew. Then we can dine together.”
A blush clearly crept onto Jiaoqiu’s face, as the light of the red flames danced off of it. This was the first time you had suggested dining together, as even though your disciple usually cooked for you, you always ate separately. He wrapped his fingers tightly around the bottle with the pink powder and uncorked it, before pouring a generous amount of it into the stew and mixing it in. Almost immediately a strong, alluringly sweet scent filled the small room. You heard both your and Jiaoqiu’s breathing picked up, as a slight lightheadedness overcame you, when he placed two small bowls on the table filled with the stew.
A bit impatiently, Jiaoqiu sat down at the other side of the table and smiled at you. “Enjoy your meal, master~”
Setting down your folding fan, you smiled at him and placed your hands at the side of the bowl. “With you, A-Qiu.”
He returned the wicked smile and mirrored your actions, his twitching ears and swaying tail betraying his calm facade. “Of course.” The Huli Jing lifted his bowl, eagerly watching you do the same.
You held strict eye contact with him, feeling your disciple shrink into submission in excitement under his master’s watchful gaze, as both of you placed your bowls at your lips and began drinking up the steaming, hot liquid. It burned your throat like liquid fire, the sweet, sexy taste of the aphrodisiac Jiaoqiu added completely overpowering the spicy stew’s original flavour. You gulped it all down anyway, feeling the heat from the food settle in your stomach and the warmth from the aphrodisiac spread through your entire body until both master and disciple were a flushed, sweaty mess.
Jiaoqiu lost his cool far quicker and in a less dignified manner than you did, claws audibly digging into his clothed thighs, which he tried to subtly rub together. “M-Master…”, he whispered, lust written all over his flushed face and his tail impatiently swaying back and forth.
“What is it, A-Qiu?” You innocently tilted your head to the side with a gentle smile, hands on your lap to use the wide sleeves to hide your raging boner. Compared to your disciple, your breathing was still even and calm, as Jiaoqiu rose up from his knees to lean over the table.
“I want you, master~!”, he panted out, his breath smelled sweet and alluring, just like the aphrodisiac. His pupils were blown wide with lust and he stared at you, as if he was willing to pounce at any moment.
“Oh? Does my dearest head disciple not have any self-control to wait for his master to be ready?” You sighed in disappointment, seeing his tail flick in frustration, you both knew you were more than ready for action.
“No, master. Your disciple is very, very impatient tonight~”, Jiaoqiu practically purred, as he supported himself on the table and arched his back, showing off his subtle curves and flexibility. “And he’s afraid that tonight he just can’t resist~”
You observed him push the empty bowls away and lay down on the table to crawl over it and closer to you, resisting the urge to just grab him and rip his clothes off. You remained still though, letting him have his foreplay. “Then he should remember that he’s going to be severely punished for his misbehaviour later.”
“That’s a matter for later~ Mghhh~” By now Jiaoqiu has reached you and gotten up on all fours on the table to hungrily press his lips against yours. “Hahhh, nghhh~”
You willingly opened your mouth, letting his sweet tongue lap at your palate, not bothering to move in the slightest, as he climbed onto your lap. He threw his arms around your neck and started grinding his hips against yours or rather, against your hands still folded over your lap. Even through the multiple layers of clothing separating your skin from Jiaoqiu’s, you could feel the wet patch growing between his legs.
“Really, master?”, Jiaoqiu sighed into your kiss and pouted a little, his devious hand having found their way past yours to the leaking tip of your dick. “All dripping and hard, yet still no reaction? So stiff and stubborn.”
You just smiled. “You should know that it takes a lot more for me to just give in to your raunchy little games.”
“Tch. All this resistance for what?” Using your shoulders as support, Jiaoqiu lifted his hips up high enough to grind his clothed cunt against your tip. “You always enjoyed it in the end.”
“Mgh-!” You felt your resolve crumbling, he was definitely getting better at this game of riling each other up to a good fuck. “I’m sure you’ve figured it out already, clever as you are~” Your dick twitched in delight, when a slight frown flashed across Jiaoqiu’s face, showing that he very much has not figured it out yet.
“Hmp-!” With a light huff, he put his palm on your broad chest and pushed against it. Deciding to indulge him, you complied and let Jiaoqiu push you to the ground to lay comfortably on the hard wooden floor. You watched him hike up your robe, so your huge dick was visibly tenting your loose pants. Seeing you move your hands away to allow him access to it, the Huli Jing smiled deviously. “Oh, so that’s what it’s like, hm? Master just wants to see how far I’d go for him?” His smile grew into a nearly manic grin. “Well, I can just say, I don’t have any limits~” With that, he pulled down his robe, revealing the bare, creamy skin of his toned shoulders, the supple mounds of his tits and his beautifully soft abs, until the robe completely fell off of his body along with the sash tying it in place.
“What a beautiful disciple I have~” With a hum, you shamelessly reached up to squeeze Jiaoqiu’s sides, your hand dwarving his fairly broad build. You felt his tummy move beneath your fingers, as he shifted and panted, skin unbearably hot from arousal.
“Ahh~” He squirmed, when you placed both hands on his waist, your thumbs and forefingers nearly touching around it. “You act like this is the first time you see me nude, master.”
“And does that mean I must stop appreciating my disciple’s beauty?” You loosened your grip a little, allowing him to shimmy out of his pants and throw them to the side along with his shoes.
“I suppose not… Mghh…~” A light moan left Jiaoqiu’s lips, as he touched his lower belly, rubbing his crotch right above his throbbing clit. You slid the tips of your calloused fingers over the smooth skin of his hips over to his crotch, flattening two underneath his pussy for him to grind against. “Anghh~” Jiaoqiu moaned, rutting against your fingers, as he reached down to undo your sash and discard the pesky piece of clothing behind him.
“You’re so wet… And I’m barely even touching you”, you remarked, a gasp leaving your mouth, when your disciple unceremoniously pulled your robes aside to grope your chest. Your bulging pecs dwarved his slender hands, as he dug his nails into the soft flesh and kneaded them like dough.
“Nghhaaahhh~” Jiaoqiu threw his head back and pushed his hips down harder on your fingers, when you curled them slightly and allowed them to slip into his cunt. “S-Speak for yourself, master-!” He moaned, hips stuttering slightly, as he pushed his ass back against the rather large patch at the tent in your pants. His hole was clamping down on your thick fingers, the large digits spreading him out far better than his could ever dream of.
“Now, now, watch your manners”, you tutted him with a harsh curl of your fingers inside of him, digging them deeper into him and punching an ecstatic groan out of him. “Me being knuckles-deep inside of you doesn’t give you permission to act up.” His cunt squeezed you even harder at the words and you could swear he was sucking you in with all of his might.
Licking his lips hungrily, Jiaoqiu moved his hands to your abs, as he arched his back. “Sorry, master~” He didn’t seem sorry at all, when he lifted himself off of your fingers to slide your pants down and free the monster of a cock that had been desperately leaking into the fabric the whole time. Jiaoqiu traced the shaft in awe, admiring the bulging veins running along it. Two of his fingers teasingly rubbed over your tip, collecting the pre-cum and spreading it around. “So big and hard~ A shame that it’s attached to such a stubborn master~”
“Nghh-!” You bucked your hips lightly, your cock sliding against his fingers and getting a bit of pre-cum over the shaft. “Take matters into your own hand, if you don’t like how I’m doing it.”
“Tch, of course.” His hand wrapped around your shaft, slowly stroking it and covering it in your fluids. His fingers could barely encircle your base completely and Jiaoqiu seemed to like that just as much as you did, based on how he leered at it lustfully. “Anghhh~” Rubbing your cock against his cunt, he pushed it against his pink entrance, barely letting the red tip slide in and clenching around it, before pulling out again.
“A-Qiu…” You grunted, nails digging into his waist, adding more bruises to the ones your hands had already left on his creamy skin.
“Hahhh, so good~” With a moan, Jiaoqiu fully sank down on your length, his wet heat clamping down on you like a vice. The aphrodisiac has made you so sensitive, it felt as though a single thrust deep inside of him could make you cum already. His pussy was fluttering around you, desperately trying to suck you back in, even as he lifted himself up slowly and dropped back down.
“You’re so tight, A-Qiu…”, you gritted out, enraptured by the sight of your disciple riding you, his wet cunt speared open to its limits around your cock, as it kept going in and out. Your thumbs brushed over a bump in his stomach and your breath hitched when you realised that it was your dick there.
“Can you feel it?~” Jiaoqiu panted, placing his smaller hand on yours to guide it to the bulge in his abdomen that appeared every time he thrusted downwards. “Master, you’re so deep~”
“Ngh, A-Qiu…!” With a grunt, you held his hips in place to thrust up into him, disregarding the will to let him put on a show for you. His entire body jolted at the sudden stimulation and he shook in your hands. You let him position himself comfortably on top of you, before propping your knees up and pounding into him from below.
“Ohhhh, yesss, yes, yes, master-!” Jiaoqiu blabbered, burning eyes turning hazy, as he dug his nails into your flexing abs, his tail swishing behind him in satisfaction. His cunt was tight and inviting and you made sure to thrust and grind into each of his sensitive spots inside, turning the Huli Jing into a moaning mess. “Faster-!”
“You’re not- Unghh~! Making demands here-!” You complied anyway, speeding up your thrusts into him. The force behind it had his ears bouncing wildly and his tail was swishing around more erratically, signalling his upcoming orgasm.
“Nghhh, c-come inside, master-!”, Jiaoqiu demanded, squirming in your firm grasp to thrust down on your huge cock and keep it inside of him. His fingers were digging bruises into your belly and his hair was falling so beautifully over his shoulders, as his swollen pussy took your dick like it was made for it.
“Hahhh, I- Mghhghhh~!” A particularly harsh thrust deep into your disciple sent you over the edge, the bliss temporarily blinding you, as your cock spurted a big load right into Jiaoqiu’s cunt.
“Master-! Nghhaahhh!” He followed with a yell, cunt clenching down on you even harsher than before and squirting all over you.
“Ungh-!” Some of his spent landed right in your mouth and you eagerly ate it up, enjoying the sweet, musky taste of his pussy. As your vision returned, you blinked at him, seeing that your dick made no effort to soften and his cunt was still as swollen and wet as ever. Even with how he clamped down on you, leaving not even the slightest gap between your dick and his walls, your load was starting to seep out of him.
“Keep it inside-!” Jiaoqiu huffed, trying to close his legs to prevent it from spilling out.
“Come here, A-Qiu”, you commanded him softly, dragging him off of your cock and guiding him into a new position. Your disciple squirmed a little, but soon complied, when he found out what you were planning.
“Mm, I like the idea of dessert~”, he purred, his swaying tail accidentally smacking your face, as you lowered his pussy towards your face. His thighs were caging in your head, efficiently suffocating you, but nose-deep in a wet cunt was a death you could live with, if you didn’t care for dignity.
“Don’t be greedy, A-Qiu. Only one portion for now”, you mumbled, unable to resist the delicious sight of your cum dripping out of his pink pussy like sweet cream.
“If you say so, master~” Thin fingers curled around the base of your cock and not a second later, a kiss was placed on your tip. Feeling your dick twitch at that, you mirrored the gesture and kissed Jiaoqiu’s clit, before using your thumbs to spread his labia open and catching the savoury mix of cum and pussy juice with your mouth. “Mghhh~”
It didn’t take long until wet, obscene slurping sounds filled the room, Jiaoqiu’s lips stretched taut around your shaft, as he eagerly sucked on your cock like it was a sweet treat. Meanwhile your mouth was devouring his dripping cunt, eating up the mix of both of your fluids like a starved man.
You could feel his pussy clenching around your tongue, when you finally entered it, having eaten up most of your fluids inside of him by now. Once your cum was gone, you could truly get a taste of your disciple’s hungry pussy and on god, you were loving it. He tasted sweet and musky, a nicely masculine and alluring taste that suited Jiaoqiu perfectly.
“Mghhh~ Such a big treat~” You heard him mumble, as he pulled off of your cock to lick his slick off of the base and the shaft where he couldn’t reach, when sucking you off. His devious, little fingers quickly found your balls and started squeezing and playing with them like marbles.
“Ngh-! Don’t play with your food, A-Qiu-!” You jolted at his touch, bucking your hips up and pushing your cock against his face. Burying your face in his cunt, you slipped one thumb into his soaked hole from above, while tonguing at the hood of his clit.
“Ahhh~ S-Sorry, master~” Again, Jiaoqiu didn’t sound very sorry, as he kept fondling your balls and stroking your base, as he went back to suckling at your tip.
You groaned and dug your nails into his plush thigh, having to hold his hips in place, as he greedily tried to suffocate you with his pussy. Wrapping your lips around his clit, you began sucking eagerly, listening to his whines and gasps, as he struggled to take your dick down his throat.
You shifted a little, trying to wring your thumb deeper into his hole, and curling it inside to assault his sweet spot. From the way he jolted and tightened around your dick every time you moved your finger, it seemed to be working.
“Nghhh~” Drunk on lust and pleasure, you loosened your grip on the Huli Jing’s thigh and let him fully squash your face with his cunt. With a muffled grunt, you started ravishing his pussy, replacing your thumb with your tongue, as you grabbed the base of his tail and stroked it.
“Aaamghhh~” Jiaoqiu’s response was almost immediate, a high-pitched keen, which was quickly choked back down his throat as you bucked your hips up to slam your cock into his face. You felt his whole body quiver and shake, as you set a ruthless pace, hearing him choke and gasp from the rapid thrusts. The movements caused his hips to bear down further on your face and despite already feeling light-headed from lack of oxygen, you kept tongue-fucking him.
“Mgghhh, hhhh-!” Your hips stuttered a little and a muffled yell went right against your disciple’s cunt, as you came right down his tight throat. Jiaoqiu moaned in response, eagerly drinking up all of your cum.
His thighs tightened around your head, threatening to crush it like a watermelon, as his hips bore down on your face and by now practically grinded his cunt against your mouth, until he came with a shout. “Ahh, fuck-! Nghhh, master-!” Jiaoqiu lifted himself off of your nose just enough for you to give you a small breather, before immediately squirting all over it and soaking you in his juices.
“Urghhh-!” Reflexively, you opened your mouth and clenched your eyes shut, drinking up the sweet, alluring liquid that landed on your tongue. Almost instantly, Jiaoqiu settled back down against your face, languidly riding out his orgasm, as he swirled his tongue around your sensitive cockhead.
“A-Qiu…”, You mumbled after a while, tugging at his tail to get him off of you. Despite those two intense orgasms, your body was still burning up from arousal and your dick was still hard and erect as if you never came.
“Mghhh, you tasted good, master~” His tail swayed in your grasp, as Jiaoqiu pulled away from your cock and arched his back. He lifted his hips, letting out an amused snort, upon seeing your red face soaked in his juices.
“Look at the mess you made, A-Qiu.” You tutted him, sitting up, as the Huli Jing turned around and climbed onto your lap, squeezing your dick in-between your hot bellies, while he straddled your thigh.
“Sorry, master~” Jiaoqiu batted his eyelashes, still not a trace of remorse in his yellow eyes, as he leaned forward and kissed you. “I’ll clean it up for you~”
You hummed in approval, closing your eyes and kneading his ass, as his tongue lapped up his juices and he ground his hips down on your bare thigh.
You were wondering whether the night was long enough for you and your disciple to properly fuck all of the aphrodisiac out of your systems.

being a foxian, people would think jiaoqiu would be the one with at least a bit of an animalistic side to him
but no, not when you’re the one pounding into him from behind, relentless and unforgiving with every roll of your hips against his plump ass. your balls would slap against his swollen clit, your teeth biting down onto his shoulder blade as the thick fluid of his cum dragged down his thighs
was it a bad idea to put aphrodisiac on the food he cooked for you? not really. he's evidently enjoying every bit of it
the way you pushed his head against the mattress, fingers gripping and tugging at his hair while the other played held onto his tail. he swore he came the first time you tugged so harshly on his tail, using it as leverage to pull him down to meet your thrusts
he’s drooling, eyes rolled to the back of his head as you continued to fuck his already gaping hole, too spent and lost in his high to form coherent words
he whined into the pillows when he felt you pump another warm load inside of him, yet you never planned on stopping anytime soon, instead positioning him on his back
when the foxian tried to whine again, you shut him up with your hand roughly grasping his chin, pushing his cheeks together as you scowled, “this is your fault. take responsibility.”
it was going to be a long night

𝐈, 𝐉𝐢𝐚𝐨𝐪𝐢𝐮 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐦-𝟏 The fox's wedding
Words:5207
TW: Mentions of curses, dead people, forced marriage?
Most of the lines are from the Masa works design's onibi series songs! just references since I got this idea from it!
If you think y/n is shitty in the first chapter, get ready to face that it's not true.
Characters that appear in this chapter: Jiaoqiu, Moze, Y/n
The abandoned ship from part of the Luofu which was lost loomed ahead, its dark silhouette against the starry backdrop of the void. Jiaoqiu and Moze approached the vessel, their steps echoing in the silence of the derelict expanse.
Moze, his eyes scanning the surroundings with a mixture of caution and disdain, adjusted his grip on his weapon. "This is a bad idea," he said, his voice a low murmur. "There's a reason this place was abandoned."
Jiaoqiu, ever the optimist despite the grim setting, gave a reassuring smile. "I understand your concern, Moze. But this herb is crucial for General Feixiao's treatment. Her condition is deteriorating, and we need to find it before it's too late."
Moze nodded, though his frown deepened. "If it's that important, then I suppose we have no choice. But if anything goes wrong, remember that I warned you."
As they entered the ship, the musty smell of decay filled the air. The once-magnificent interior was now a maze of twisted metal and debris. Shadows danced ominously across the walls, and the eerie silence was occasionally broken by the distant creaks of the ship's frame.
Their search led them to a chamber filled with a disturbing sight: statues of what appeared to be people, frozen in various poses of agony and despair. The lifelike details of the statues gave them a haunting realism, their eyes wide with a frozen terror that seemed to transcend time.
Moze's gaze lingered on the statues, a shiver running down his spine. "What are these?" he asked, his voice edged with unease.
Jiaoqiu's expression grew somber as he observed the statues. "These statues are a tragic reminder of an old tale," he began, his tone reflective. "It's the story of Y/N L/N, the Goddess of Betrayal. A deity not born from human creation, but from something far more ancient and malevolent."
Moze's curiosity was piqued despite the ominous setting. "Go on," he said, though his eyes remained wary.
Jiaoqiu took a deep breath. "Y/N L/N once aided the Borisin clan during a time of dire need. She provided them with food and sustenance when they were on the brink of starvation. The Borisin people, desperate and grateful, welcomed her aid. But there was a price to be paid."
He paused, looking at the statues with a mixture of sadness and reverence. "The village's guardian deity, a foxian named Eiji, tried to stop her, sensing something sinister behind her gifts. Y/N L/N, driven by her own malevolent desires, killed Eiji and took his place. In doing so, she cursed the people of the village, transforming them into statues as a testament to her betrayal."
Moze's eyes widened slightly. "So these statues are—"
"—the remnants of Eiji's final wish," Jiaoqiu continued, his voice somber. "He wished for everyone, including himself, to be turned into statues and die, hoping to stop Y/N L/N's wrath. But as a spirit, she couldn't die. Instead, she was bound to the human realm through marriage. If someone were to marry her, they would be bound to her forever. If they tried to escape, they would die. The only way to defeat her was through a clever scheme: to trick her into giving up her soul, thus betraying the Goddess of Betrayal herself."
Moze's gaze fell back on the statues, their cursed faces a chilling reminder of the power of betrayal. "I see. And you believe this herb will help Feixiao?"
"Yes," Jiaoqiu affirmed, nodding. "The herb is said to have properties that can counteract the Moon Rage affliction. It's our best hope."
Jiaoqiu and Moze moved deeper into the abandoned ship, their search for the herb proving more challenging with each step. The air grew colder, and the silence seemed to press in on them, broken only by the occasional clatter of debris.
As they entered a large chamber, Jiaoqiu's eyes were drawn to a wall covered in ancient writings and inscriptions. The text, faded and worn, was in a language he recognized from his studies—a mix of old Borisin dialects and forgotten scripts. Despite Moze's warnings, Jiaoqiu was intrigued by the historical significance.
Moze, ever the skeptic, approached with a concerned expression. "This is a bad idea, Jiaoqiu. We're here for the herb, not to play historian. The more time we spend here, the greater the risk."
"I understand," Jiaoqiu replied, his eyes still fixed on the inscriptions. "But knowledge can be as valuable as the herb itself. There might be information here that could aid in understanding more about our current situation."
Ignoring Moze's concerned sigh, Jiaoqiu began to decipher the texts, his fingers tracing the old characters with a mixture of reverence and curiosity. As he read, he stumbled upon a section that described a statue of a girl. The description was both enchanting and tragic—a girl with delicate features, her hands seemingly outstretched in acceptance, yet her eyes filled with sorrow.
Driven by a strange compulsion, Jiaoqiu moved towards a pedestal at the center of the chamber where the statue was displayed. The statue was exquisitely detailed, her features so lifelike that she seemed on the verge of tears. Her hands were poised as if she had accepted an offering, but the sadness in her eyes was palpable.
Jiaoqiu reached out and gently touched the statue. A shiver ran down his spine as he felt an intense pull, a deep yearning to kiss the statue's cold, sculpted lips. He found himself inching closer, drawn by an inexplicable force.
"Jiaoqiu!" Moze's voice cut through the haze. "What are you doing? Snap out of it!"
But Jiaoqiu was beyond hearing. The closer he got, the more overwhelming the sensation became. The statue seemed to come alive with an eerie allure, its sorrowful eyes mesmerizing him.
Suddenly, Moze, sensing the danger, lunged forward. "Get away from that statue!" he shouted, grabbing Jiaoqiu's arm and pulling him back.
The moment Moze's hand made contact, the statue's eyes flashed with a malevolent glow.
Jiaoqiu, now freed from the statue's grip, staggered back, his mind clearing. "There's a monster, behind it." he said, his voice trembling.
Moze drew his weapon, his face set in a determined scowl. "We need to fight. Stay sharp!"
The creature let out a guttural roar, its monstrous form shifting and writhing. It charged at them with surprising speed, its eyes still glowing with that hypnotic light. Jiaoqiu, shaking off the lingering effects of the statue's influence, joined Moze in the battle.
Moze moved with precision, his strikes calculated and deadly, while Jiaoqiu used his agility to dodge and counterattack. The ship's dim lighting cast eerie shadows on the walls as the battle raged on, each movement and strike reverberating through the cold, silent chamber.
Jiaoqiu managed to land a solid blow, causing the creature to stagger, but its eyes continued to glow with a hypnotic pull. Moze, sensing the need for a decisive strike, aimed for the creature's core, hoping to end the threat once and for all.
With a final, powerful strike, Moze hit the creature's core, and the monster let out a final, anguished roar before collapsing into a lifeless heap. The hypnotic glow in its eyes faded, and the chamber fell silent once more.
Breathing heavily, Jiaoqiu and Moze stood amidst the remnants of their battle. The statue was now just a broken relic, its enchantment defeated. Jiaoqiu's hands trembled slightly as he looked at the fallen creature.
"Thank you," Jiaoqiu said, his voice shaky. "I almost—"
"Don't mention it," Moze interrupted, his tone firm. "Let's get what we came for and leave this place before there are more surprises."
Jiaoqiu's eyes were drawn back to the statue as he and Moze took a moment to catch their breath. Something nagged at him, a detail he had initially overlooked in the heat of battle. The statue's kimono—
He noticed that the kimono was worn right over left, a clear indication that it was a garment meant for the deceased. In contrast, living people traditionally wore their kimonos left over right. This detail, combined with the kitsune mask that adorned the statue, suddenly clicked in his mind.
"This... this is the Goddess of Betrayal's statue," Jiaoqiu hissed, his voice barely a whisper. The realization sent a chill down his spine. "It's her!"
Before he could say more, the monstrous creature, still lying in wait, let out another guttural roar. The statue's form shifted and writhed, its monstrous nature fully revealed. It charged at them once more, its eyes glowing with that hypnotic allure.
Moze, seeing the danger intensify, made a split-second decision. "Jiaoqiu, get out of here!" he shouted. "I'll hold it off. You need to save Feixiao. Get to the herb and get out!"
"No, Moze, we need to—" Jiaoqiu began, but Moze pushed him back towards the entrance of the chamber.
"Go! I'll handle this. I can't let you both die here," Moze said firmly. With a swift motion, he activated a mechanism on the door, locking Jiaoqiu inside the chamber with the monster.
Jiaoqiu's protests were drowned out by the clamor of the battle. He tried desperately to force the door open, but it was securely locked. He pounded on the door, shouting for Moze, but his cries were met only with the sounds of the struggle beyond.
Then came a scream—a piercing, agonizing sound that cut through the chaos. Jiaoqiu's heart sank as he realized it was Moze's voice. The sounds of the fight grew more desperate, and then suddenly, everything went quiet.
Jiaoqiu's breaths came in short, panicked gasps as he searched for a way out. His eyes darted around the chamber, looking for any possible escape route or a way to help Moze. But the door was firmly locked, and the only other exit seemed to be the way he came in—blocked by the monster now.
He turned back to the statue, his mind racing. The legends had spoken of the Goddess of Betrayal's curse: she could only return to the human realm through marriage, and if someone attempted to escape from her, they would die. The only way to save Moze—and himself—was to somehow appease the goddess, even if it meant sacrificing his own freedom.
Jiaoqiu felt a wave of desperation wash over him. He knew what kind of malevolent spirit Y/N L/N was reputed to be—a being who had betrayed the town. Yet, if he wanted to save his friend and complete their mission, he had to confront this deity.
He approached the statue with trembling steps, his heart pounding in his chest. The goddess's eyes seemed to follow him, their hypnotic glow now more pronounced than ever. Jiaoqiu took a deep breath, steeling himself for what he knew he had to do.
"I'm here," he said, his voice quavering but determined. "I'm willing to make a pact. I'll do whatever it takes."
As he spoke, the air around the statue seemed to shimmer with dark energy. Jiaoqiu could feel the pressure of the goddess's power building, an oppressive force that threatened to overwhelm him. But he remained resolute, focused on saving Moze and fulfilling their mission.
"I'm not afraid," Jiaoqiu declared, his voice growing stronger. "I'll marry you if it means saving my friend and completing our mission. I'll do whatever it takes."
Jiaoqiu's heart raced as he stood before the statue, holding the ancient text that revealed the solution to their dire predicament. The spell was clear—marriage to the kitsune spirit was the only way to save his friend. With a resolute expression, he read the incantation aloud, his voice steady despite the fear gnawing at him.
As he completed the spell, the statue's eyes began to flicker with life. Jiaoqiu approached, feeling the weight of his decision press heavily upon him. The goddess, a tragic figure bound by her curse, had her eyes closed, her form still and lifeless. He knew what he had to do to seal their pact.
With trembling hands, Jiaoqiu leaned in and pressed his lips gently against the statue's. The kiss was soft, almost tender, yet it carried the weight of his desperation and hope. As his lips met the cold stone, a shiver ran through him. The sensation was like stepping into a dream, where reality blurred with the ethereal. The statue's form began to change, her features softening, and her kimono—a deep, wine-red with black sashes and a grey obi—flowed around her as she transformed.
For a moment, you, the Goddess of Betrayal, felt the warmth of his kiss. Your eyes fluttered open, revealing a deep sadness mingled with an ancient, inscrutable power. You could see Jiaoqiu before you, his features illuminated by the dim light—a young man with pale salmon-colored hair and golden eyes that reflected a mixture of determination and vulnerability. He was almost hypnotized by the act, his gaze locked with yours as he awaited your response.
"You've bound yourself to me," you said, your voice a whisper that echoed with a sadistic edge. "How cute, a foxian marrying me. After all, it was a foxian I once killed with my own hands."
Your eyes softened momentarily as you gazed at him, your lips curving into a dark, melancholic smile. You leaned closer and placed a gentle kiss on his forehead, a gesture both affectionate and haunting. "I will be a good wife, haunting you through every step you take."
Jiaoqiu's eyes widened, a mix of fear and awe reflected in them. He didn't fully understand the depth of your power or the true nature of your curse, but he sensed the gravity of his situation.
"Please," Jiaoqiu implored, "save Moze. He's in grave danger."
You nodded, You moved swiftly, your form a blur as you used your powers to navigate the darkened corridors of the temple. Your presence was a haunting shadow, manipulating the very essence of the surroundings to achieve your goal.
The scene was surreal: you, a goddess bound by a curse, moving with a grace that was both unsettling and beautiful. The power you wielded was palpable, shaping the environment around you as you searched for Moze.
Finally, you reached Moze's location, your eyes narrowing as you saw him injured but alive. With a decisive motion, you used your abilities to mend his wounds and transport him out of the locked chamber. The process was swift, the air around you shimmering with the force of your will.
Jiaoqiu, witnessing your actions, felt a mixture of relief and awe. He had bound himself to you in a moment of desperation, but now, as he saw you save his friend, he understood the complexity of his choice. Your presence was both a blessing and a curse, a reminder of the tragic fate that had led you to this moment.
With Moze safe and the immediate danger averted.
Moze's frustration was palpable as he slapped Jiaoqiu across the face, his eyes blazing with anger and confusion. "Why did you sacrifice yourself?" he demanded, his voice a low growl. "Why did you throw away everything for this?"
Jiaoqiu's eyes were red with tears, his face a portrait of anguish and resolve. "Because... because you were my friend," he choked out, his voice trembling. "And Feixiao was like family to me. I couldn't let him suffer, even if it meant enduring this... this fate. I would rather suffer myself than let him down."
Moze's silence was replaced by a fierce, unspoken rage. He raised his hand to slap Jiaoqiu again, his expression a mix of sorrow and fury. But just as his hand was about to connect, you, levitating gracefully above the floor, intervened. Your ethereal presence was both commanding and terrifying as you stopped his hand with a mere flick of your wrist.
"Hold your hand, mortal," you said, your voice echoing through the chamber with a chilling calm. "You're the emi of our lives, I don't wanna hurt you."
Moze pushed against the air with a sense of futile defiance, his frustration evident as he faced you. "You're not welcome here," he growled, his blade grasped tightly in his hand.
You hovered there, a spectral figure of disdain and amusement. "What are you looking at, while grasping that blade in your hand?" you taunted, your voice dripping with mockery. "Shall we speak to him, who can't recover his old self? You mock the very reason why he married me. I find it quite amusing—laughable even—that he chose to bind himself to me."
You floated closer, your gaze sharp and unforgiving. "He chose to sacrifice himself for a cause greater than your understanding. It is because of you that Jiaoqiu married me."
Your laughter was haunting. Moze's anger seemed to falter under the weight of your words, his expression a mix of confusion and disbelief as he struggled to comprehend the depth of Jiaoqiu's sacrifice and your own cruel amusement.
You continued to hover, your laughter echoing ominously through the chamber. The sound was both mocking and sorrowful, an unsettling blend that seemed to deepen the shadows around you. Moze, seething with anger and desperation, stepped forward, his voice fierce and filled with an edge of menace.
"The Luofu will see to it that you are beheaded," Moze threatened, his eyes locked onto yours. "You're nothing but a curse upon us. Leave Jiaoqiu alone, and get out of here!"
You looked at him with a cold, unsettling calm, your expression unphased by his fury. "Oh, I am the victim here, Moze," you said with a haunting smile. "I am bound to this curse, and I cannot turn back into a human unless I am married to someone for thirty days. Only then will I be freed from this torment."
Your eyes narrowed, a flicker of anger lighting up your gaze. "And yet, you ask me to leave, to abandon the one who bound himself to me. How quaint. You insist on telling me not to leave. Are you so eager to ensure my suffering continues?"
Jiaoqiu, sensing the growing tension, stepped between you and Moze, his voice urgent yet pleading. "Please, stop haunting Moze. He's already suffering enough."
You turned your gaze to Jiaoqiu, your expression momentarily softening as you regarded him. "And why should I? He is the one who forced this fate upon me. Yet, you plead for his sake. How touching."
Moze's eyes hardened, his tone laced with disdain. "Loyalty for a goddess after betrayal? Is that what you value so highly?"
For a moment, you were taken aback, a flicker of confusion crossing your features. The question struck a chord deep within you, stirring emotions you had long buried under layers of bitterness and rage. But you quickly masked your confusion, a cold smile returning to your lips.
"It seems you misunderstand," you said, your voice steady despite the turmoil inside. "Loyalty is but a tool, a means to an end. Betrayal and loyalty are mere players in the game of fate. I am bound by my curse, and he—Jiaoqiu—has chosen to play his part in this tragic tale."
Your gaze shifted back to Moze, your eyes reflecting a mixture of sorrow and disdain. "But remember, it is not just loyalty or betrayal that defines us. It is the choices we make, the sacrifices we endure, and the consequences of our actions. If you wish for me to leave, then so be it. But know that I will not forget the role each of you plays in this twisted narrative."
As you floated closer to Jiaoqiu, leaving Moze behind, your presence seemed to envelop the room with an eerie calm. Jiaoqiu, sensing the intensity of your gaze, instinctively took a step back, his eyes wide with a mix of fear and resignation.
You hovered gracefully before him, your expression softening into a smile that was both unsettling and strangely tender. Despite your past hatred for the foxians—rooted in deep-seated bitterness and betrayal—you found yourself unable to hate him. There was something about Jiaoqiu's demeanor, his gentle features, and the earnestness in his eyes that disarmed you.
"You know," you said softly, your voice carrying a strange, melodic tone. "Despite everything, I find I cannot hate you. You are so kind, so pretty in your own way. It is a rare thing, to find such sincerity amidst the shadows."
Jiaoqiu's heart pounded as he looked at you, his fear palpable. To him, your kind smile felt more like a haunting specter of doom than a promise of salvation. He closed his eyes, overwhelmed by the weight of the situation, and gave a slow, hesitant nod.
"I will be a good wife to you," you continued, your voice imbued with a gentle assurance that contrasted sharply with the chilling atmosphere. "I will fulfill the role expected of me. Though we are not officially married, this bond we have is undeniable."
As you spoke, Jiaoqiu tried to create some space between you, his hand trembling as he attempted to maintain distance. "We didn't marry officially," he said, his voice strained, trying to maintain his composure.
You chuckled softly, the sound both melodic and unnerving. you floated away, your presence lingered, leaving an unsettling stillness in the chamber. A soft, eerie light began to emanate from the statues, and suddenly, they began to stir. One by one, the statues moved as if guided by invisible strings, their once-stone forms now animated like puppets. The room came alive with a spectral, unsettling energy.
Moze, still bound and struggling, looked on in shock as the statues—now eerily lifelike—took their places around him, their movements synchronized in a macabre dance. His eyes widened as he realized the full extent of your powers and the dire situation he was in.
In a swirl of shimmering light, you transformed into a vision of ethereal beauty. The Kinmokusei blossom petals surrounded you, their sweet fragrance filling the air as you emerged in traditional Japanese wedding attire. The kimono you wore was a stunning array of intricate patterns and colors, the fabric flowing gracefully around you. Your appearance was both enchanting and unsettling, a blend of elegance and menace.
The statues, now fully animated, assumed the roles of your attendants. They moved with a precision that spoke of long practice, preparing the room for the grand event. Their silent, expressionless faces and fluid movements added to the surreal atmosphere.
You giggled softly, the sound a strange mix of joy and malevolence. Your eyes sparkled with a twisted delight as you directed the attendants, arranging the room and ensuring everything was perfect for the occasion.
Jiaoqiu, observing the transformation with a mix of dread and confusion, was soon approached by the attendants, who gently but firmly guided him into a male kimono designed specifically for the wedding. The kimono was elaborate, its fabric rich and luxurious, adorned with intricate embroidery that contrasted sharply with the somber atmosphere.
As Jiaoqiu was dressed in the ceremonial attire, he looked at you with a mixture of fear and resignation. You stood before him, your smile a blend of satisfaction and cold determination.
"Isn't it wonderful, Jiaoqiu?" you said, your voice sweet but carrying an underlying edge. "The ceremony is almost ready. All that remains is for us to finalize our bond."
Jiaoqiu's heart raced as he took in the surreal and haunting scene around him. The once-stone statues now moved with a life of their own, and the atmosphere was thick with the sense of impending doom. The wedding was no longer a mere formality—it had become an eerie, otherworldly ritual that tied him irrevocably to you.
As you approached, your gaze never leaving him, Jiaoqiu knew there was no escape from this twisted ceremony. The realization of his fate, bound by your will and the powers you wielded, left him feeling both trapped and powerless. The room, filled with the soft glow of Kinmokusei petals and the haunting presence of your attendants, seemed to pulse with a life of its own, marking the beginning of a dark and unbreakable bond.
The scene before Jiaoqiu was straight out of a nightmare, a dark and twisted version of a wedding ceremony. The once-stone statues, now animated and lifelike, moved with eerie precision. They formed a haunting procession, their eyes vacant yet filled with an unnatural, ghostly light. The atmosphere was thick with an oppressive silence, broken only by the soft rustling of Kinmokusei petals.
Moze, bound and helpless, watched in grim horror as you, now an embodiment of spectral elegance, took your place at the center of this unholy ceremony. Your mask, a golden fox visage, added to the sinister aura, its eyes glinting with a malevolent light.
With a commanding gesture, you pushed Jiaoqiu forward. He stumbled, his movements shaky, as the procession of animated statues—now disturbingly alive—moved in a perfectly synchronized manner. Each statue seemed to have a purpose, their once-dead eyes turning toward the couple as if they were part of the ceremony.
The statues, their faces twisted into grotesque smiles, began to twist their necks in unison, their bodies contorting in unnatural ways. Their movements were eerily fluid, as though they were performing an intricate, macabre dance. Despite their movements, their expressions remained hollow, a haunting echo of their former selves.
"You see, Jiaoqiu," you said softly, your voice carrying a dark, hypnotic undertone. "This is our wedding. A ceremony that binds us in ways beyond the mortal realm. These are the witnesses and the blessings. They are alive, in a sense, but bound to this realm by my will."
As you spoke, the statues' necks twisted further, their bodies stretching and contorting in a grotesque mimicry of life. They seemed to move with a purpose, their eerie, synchronized motions creating an unsettling harmony. The sight was both mesmerizing and horrifying, a testament to your power and the dark magic you wielded.
You floated gracefully behind Jiaoqiu, your presence both alluring and terrifying. The Kinmokusei petals drifted around you, their fragrance now tinged with an undertone of dread. Your mask, a symbol of your divine but twisted nature, added to the surreal and menacing atmosphere.
Jiaoqiu, his heart pounding and eyes wide with terror, looked around at the grotesque spectacle. He felt a deep sense of dread as he realized the full extent of his predicament. The once-beautiful ceremony had transformed into a dark, demonic ritual, and he was at its center, bound by fate and your will.
The statues, now eerily alive and animated, continued their dance, their movements a haunting echo of a ceremony long forgotten. They were both the audience and the participants in this unholy union, their twisted forms a stark reminder of the price Jiaoqiu had paid for attempting to save his friend.
The atmosphere was thick with anticipation as the ghostly figures completed their macabre dance. The haunting melody of the Kinmokusei blossoms floated around you, casting an ethereal glow on the scene. Jiaoqiu, trembling with fear and resignation, stood at the center of this twisted ceremony.
With a chilling grace, you approached him. The Kinmokusei petals continued to fall gently, their sweet scent now mingling with the oppressive dread in the air. Your attire had shifted to an elaborate Japanese wedding kimono, its intricate patterns and vibrant colors creating a stark contrast to the dark ritual unfolding. The ceremonial clothing was as elegant as it was eerie, a blend of tradition and otherworldly menace.
Jiaoqiu's eyes darted nervously from the animated statues to you. He took in your transformed appearance, the golden fox mask and the flowing kimono adding an otherworldly grace to your already haunting presence. His heart raced as he struggled to process the reality of the situation.
"Jiaoqiu," you said softly, your voice a haunting whisper that seemed to echo through the stillness. "We are bound by fate and ritual. This is our union, sealed by the forces beyond."
You reached out to him, your fingers cold and otherworldly as they brushed against his cheek. Jiaoqiu's breath caught in his throat, the touch both unsettling and strangely intimate. He closed his eyes, trying to brace himself for what was to come.
With a deliberate and practiced motion, you guided Jiaoqiu to the center of the ceremony. The statues, now fully animated, encircled the couple, their eyes fixed on the scene with a mix of eerie devotion and hollow anticipation. Their twisted forms seemed to sway in rhythm with the ceremony, creating an unsettling backdrop for the final act.
The ceremony's focal point was a large, ancient scroll held by one of the statues, its intricate symbols glowing with an unearthly light. You took the scroll and unrolled it, revealing the ancient marriage vows inscribed in a language both arcane and familiar. You began to recite the vows in a low, melodic chant, your voice weaving a spell of binding and enchantment.
Jiaoqiu, still trembling, tried to maintain composure. His heart was heavy with the weight of the situation, but he understood that there was no turning back. He nodded slowly, accepting his fate as you continued to recite the vows.
As the final words of the incantation left your lips, you moved closer to Jiaoqiu. Your eyes locked onto his, and you could see the mixture of fear and determination reflected in his gaze. With a gentle yet firm motion, you tilted his chin upward and leaned in to seal the marriage.
Your lips met Jiaoqiu's in a kiss that was both chilling and profound. The contact was not just physical but also mystical, a connection that seemed to bind your very souls together. Jiaoqiu felt a strange sensation, a mix of warmth and cold, as if he were being enveloped by a force that was both beautiful and terrifying.
As the kiss deepened, Jiaoqiu's mind swirled with a blend of emotions. The kiss was hypnotic, drawing him into a realm where time seemed to stand still. He felt a strange comfort amidst the dread, a bond forming between you both that transcended the ordinary.
When the kiss finally ended, you pulled back slightly, your eyes shining with a mix of satisfaction and cruel delight. The ceremony was complete, and the bond between you and Jiaoqiu was sealed. The statues, now fully animated, seemed to exhale a collective sigh, their movements becoming more fluid and less menacing.
Jiaoqiu, now officially bound to you, looked around at the eerie assembly of figures. His expression was a mix of relief and fear, knowing that he was now a part of this twisted ritual. The haunting beauty of the ceremony was over, but the implications of the union were just beginning to sink in.
You smiled softly, your gaze lingering on Jiaoqiu. "Welcome to our eternal bond, my dear husband," you said, your voice echoing with a sinister undertone.
Acquired to exchange our lost bodies, Our twofaced thoughts, half dreaming, half awake In the end, I embrace & whisper to you Open it? Open it? Open it? Open it!
"Wake up!"

spoilers for hsr 2.5 story
Hoyo didn't show us what happened when Moze and TB found Jiaoqiu, so I'm making up my own version.
(This is not very serious because 2.5 was serious enough.)
---
"Jiaoqiu-"
He knew he had been hoping against all hopes that the foxian was well and safe, but to find him in this state felt like a punch to the gut.
Moze touched the cold, lifeless hand and gritted his teeth.
"Go, get a healer - what are you doing?"
The Trailblazer was rummaging for something behind him.
"... Found it-!" The Trailblazer held up a suspicious grilled creature. "Stone-grilled Olm, revives with 30% hp! It's the best revival item I have, been saving it since Belobog... quick, he can't hold out until we get a healer, so make do with this-!"
"..." What exactly was an olm? No, Moze shouldn't question it, he didn't have time to waste -
"If olm is no good, I have these Life-Transmitters and First-Aid Devices," the Trailblazer said, dumping out an enormous amount of life saving goods, and Moze nearly sighed with relief as he reached for them-
"I made them myself, and they don't replenish as much HP, but don't worry, I have a ton of HP restoring items -"
The Trailblazer pulled out a multitude of strange and alien foods.
"..." A drowning man will even grasp at straw. Moze gritted his teeth and reached for the olm.
---
Some time later...
---
"Hmm... it's strange," Jiaoqiu said, sitting in his sickbed. "Right when I thought my soul was just about to cross over, I had a very strange dream that I was invited to a feast. All the food was health-benefitting, but not only was the taste average to strange, so many of them were beneficial in ways that clashed with one another. Then, before I knew it, I found myself waking at the Alchemy Commission."
Feixiao chuckled softly. "Maybe that 'feast' made you angry enough that you inadvertently revived."
"Maybe so-!"
The two foxians laughed, and Moze couldn't bring himself to look at them.
End.
---
Look, I cope with humor, okay?!
But seriously, let me believe Trailblazer did SOMETHING useful this update...

Oh, don't mind me, I'm just writing about my silly thoughts with a platonic jiaoqiu x gn!reader, where jiaoqiu is the one creating the wildest recipes ever while the reader has to taste them daily. Sometimes it's a bundle of the greatest food they've ever taste in their entire life...and on some unlucky ones they need to be taken to Bailu after the sly foxian may or may not added some...interesting ingredients, to say the least.
Will y/n ever continue to eat his dishes? Of course - both life for the thrill & art of cooking!

👁️Jiaoqiu x Feixiao 👁️Seeing Eye
She couldn’t tell if he was asleep or not. He was lying motionless on the bed beside hers, breathing slowly and eyes shut tight, not like the last fact would be a tell-tale sign. He didn’t speak a single word to her the entire time either. Perhaps he was under the assumption that she was resting as well?
"Jiaoqiu?" Feixiao said softly.
Jiaoqiu turned head slowly in the direction of her voice.
"Hm?"
"Ah, my apologies, I didn’t know that you were asleep."
"Oh, I wasn’t. Not like you’d be able to tell either way," he said with a soft chuckle.
He’s laughing
He lost his eyesight, and he’s laughing.
Feixiao forced herself to sit up on her bed. The pain shot through her side despite the medications, but she wasn’t going to let a little soreness stop her. She looked down at Jiaoqiu, who had his ears turned towards the direction of her voice.
"I’m...sorry. If I were quick enough, I could’ve saved you," she said.
"Nah, I should be sorry. I’m your healer, and now I can’t even read the ingredients for a little bowl of hot pot."
"You’re more than just my healer, Jiaoqiu. You’re my partner, my cook, my absolutely everything. And I..." Feixiao felt herself get choked up before she could say anything.
"And partners look out for each other, love. Eyesight in place of a life is a small sacrifice."
Feixiao clenched her fist, but took a deep breath. He was adamant that he did the right thing, and he truly did in the grand scheme of things, but any arguing would only bring more stress upon their already weakened bodies. Calling him an idiot for saving her life, and all of Xianzhou for that matter, was best saved for another day.
"Never mind that for now. How’s your detox coming along?" Feixiao asked with the intent of changing the subject.
"I don’t feel like I’m rotting away from the inside out, so that’s a plus. How are you holding up?"
"Hoolay hit like me a bitch, but thankfully he’s been subdued with me remaining in one piece."
"Ah, that’s a relief. I can only imagine how bad you must look right now."
Perhaps, just this once, she was glad that Jiaoqiu couldn’t see her. Her body was covered in bruises and cuts, what couldn’t be seen at first glance was most certainly hidden under a layer of gauze and bandages. If Jiaoqiu could see her, he would be stumbling out of his bed and crawling to the kitchen to cook her a meal for at least a boost in morale, if not amendments to her wounds.
"It’s not as bad as you think," she said, partially lying.
"Oh, I know you, dear. You’re probably bleeding from every square inch of your body."
"It’s not that bad, I promise."
"I can still smell your blood without any compromise."
Right. The whole scent thing was a bit of a problem here.
"Jiaoqiu, dear, I assure you, my injuries are not as severe as you think."
"How I wish I could believe you, but my ability to do so remains my one regret."
"Regret? I thought you didn’t have any regrets?"
"I won’t be able to see you again. Ever."
Feixiao was once more starting to feel choked upon hearing Jiaoqiu’s confession. He wouldn’t be able to see the meals he prepared, the condition of his patients, the enemies on the battlefield...the waves against the shore, the light of the sun’s rays, Feixiao smiling at stars beyond... the memories may be engraved into his mind, but that would never compare to seeing the world in the present.
"But you’re alive," Jiaoqiu continued, "and that is what’s most important to me."
A tear fell from Feixiao’s eye, and she forced her mouth shut to not allude to Jiaoqiu how she was feeling. He slowly rolled onto his back, but angled his ears so that he could still hear her.
"I can hear you crying."
Feixiao quickly put her hand over her mouth. Of course he could still pick up on even the smallest details. And he could hear Feixiao slip up. The slightest sign of weakness, which truly felt an unacceptable slipup to her. A tear formed in Jiaoqiu’s eye, but he covered his face and winced in pain before it could fall.
"Jiaoqiu, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything." Feixiao said.
He wiped his eyes with his arm, and turned towards her with a smile.
"Ah, there’s nothing to be sorry about. This is all on me.”
Jiaoqiu rolled over to his other side and his tail slowly poked out from under the blanket. He weakly wiggled it, like he was trying to attract a cat with a feather toy.
"Come on, Feixiao. You know you want to."
Jiaoqiu’s tail was extremely tempting, particularly seeing as Feixiao did not have one of her own. She did not recall Jiaoqiu sustaining any critical injuries to his tail, and the distance between their beds was small enough...
She slid out of her bed and walked the few steps towards Jiaoqiu. He heard her approach him as she limped heavily, though anyone could, and slid himself over to the edge just enough so that Feixiao had enough room to lay by him. Careful as to not crush his tail, she flopped her body beside him and grabbed ahold of his plush fur.
Despite being caked in blood days prior, it was well groomed and soft, though the fur was trimmed to be a little shorter. Usually, it was rather warm and cozy, but Jiaoqiu’s tail felt cold. Feixiao knew that it was due to extreme blood loss, but she couldn’t help but still panic when he felt chillingly like a long dead body.
Feixiao felt a bit guilty about his condition and held his tail a bit closer to her body.
Jiaoqiu pushed himself up slowly to sit and said to her, "Feixiao, I have a favor to ask."
"Hm?" she said, muffled by his fur.
"If I should one day forget what the waves look like, will you act as my eyes and describe them to me down to the smallest ripple?"
"It’s the least I could do as thanks for all of your sacrifices," Feixiao said, peeling her face away from his tail.
"But I insist on being your tail in return. I have more than enough fluff for the both of us, well when it grows back in anyways! Hahah-ack!"
"Take it easy, Jiaoqiu," she said, stuffing her head back into his fur.
Jiaoqiu patted his hand around searching for her head, only getting close enough to pat the mattress beside her. She felt him searching, and grabbed his wrist gently to guide him to the top of her head. He pried his fingers around a little, until he felt the back of her ears, then he started to scratch them.
His fingers felt cold. It made sense why, but it was heartbreaking nonetheless.
Jiaoqiu turned behind him and opened his eyes. For a fleeting moment, it had slipped his mind that he was no longer able to see. He saw nothing. Not even the light that cut through the thickest of darkness in his life. As his expression dimmed, he hoped that her face was still shoved into his tail, as he couldn’t exactly feel much between the thick fur and the chill. No matter how many times he kept telling himself, he still couldn’t shake the dread of never being able to see Feixiao again.
And she couldn’t shake the regret of being unable to save his eyesight.
Better for the smaller sacrifices to be made, for if Jiaoqiu didn’t cleverly poison himself, the Wardance would’ve quickly gone from a celebration to a massacre, costing the lives of far more innocent bystanders. There would have been no second chances to rectify the consequences of their failures. Jiaoqiu, however, had a second chance at seeing again, with Feixiao’s words able to paint a picture of the world before him.
