Younger Siblings Tournament Bracket Reveal

A few things I want to mention before I reveal the bracket (and make the post really long because all the matchups will be listed in text):

Seeding of fictional characters in tumblr polls is inherently subjective. I did try to make it so that more popular characters/media would (most likely) face off against each other in later rounds, but I may be overestimating or underestimating the popularity of some characters/media, especially ones I'm not familiar with. There are some round 1 matchups that are probably a closer match but none of them are between the strongest candidates... I think.

The more niche characters will probably get obliterated in the first round as per Squimbus' Law. This is a tumblr poll and I do fully expect more popular characters to sweep, but that doesn't mean you can't encourage your friends to give your niche faves a fighting chance.

Also there are some matchups I literally just thought would be funny. Please don't take this too seriously.

Sibling Showdown!!!

This showdown consists of 64 sibling sets facing off against each other, as well as a few one-off polls of sets who didn’t make the actual bracket but who I wanted to include in some capacity.  Polls will last a week.  Round One of section A will go live on April 16, with section B going live the day after, section C the day after that, and section D the day after that.

Propaganda is allowed!  I just ask that it be kept positive.  Argue for your faves instead of against someone else’s.  Every sibling set who made it in the showdown is there because someone wanted them to be, so keep it kind.

Day 6: Assasin/Target/Bodyguard for @avatar-sunken-ships-week

Pairing: Jiangtara (Jiang/Katara)

Summary: Jiang is Katara’s bodyguard, which means that the two of them probably shouldn’t get involved. The waterbender is persistent, however, and Jiang doesn’t want to resist her.

“If I’m not careful, I’m going to be very wet,” Katara remarks as she meets Jiang’s gaze.

“Yes, you are,” Jiang replies before she can think better of it. That is definitely not an appropriate thing to say to her charge. What the fuck?

But Katara just looks up at her from beneath her thick, dark eyelashes and—Jiang has seen that look on many pretty girls’ faces, but it’s never looked as good as it does on Katara—she’s definitely giving Jiang flirty eyes.

“Maybe I shouldn’t be careful then,” Katara purrs.

Heat suddenly twinges between Jiang’s legs, and as much as she wants to undress this gorgeous waterbender and have her way with her, she knows that she can’t. Katara is drunk, and Jiang is her bodyguard, and it’ll probably break a dozen codes of conduct and possibly a law if she sleeps with her.

“I…we can’t, Katara,” Jiang says.

She purses her lips in an adorable pout. “Aww, don’t be such a buzzkill.” She reaches for Jiang and catches her by the hips before Jiang can stop her. “If I get wet, will you take care of me?”

Jiang wraps her hands around Katara’s wrists. “Whoa, whoa, whoa, Master Katara—”

“Master Katara, hm? Is that what you’d call me in bed?”

“I don’t think this is an appropriate conversation to have when you’re drunk, Master Katara—”

The entire time they’re talking, Katara is groping at her, and Jiang is trying to stop her, but the woman is stronger than she looks. Finally, Jiang locks her hands around Katara’s wrists and pulls her back. With a drunken laugh, Katara falls backwards onto the bed, pulling Jiang with her until she’s laying between Katara’s legs. Jiang catches herself by pinning Katara’s hands above her head, their bodies pressed flush together.

Katara gives her a sultry smirk. “I always wondered what you’d look like on top of me,” she purrs.

Here, let me give a snippet of something I will probably never write more on, but I love how it turned out.

She sighed at the scene like a painting before her:

There, eyes closed against the daylight streaming in through the autumn leaves, was the woman who was steady as her kingdom, but as fluid as Katara's element. She was the anchored island embraced by the sea. Her face was turned up to the sky, but her arms lay limp at her sides.

And just there, face pressed against the soft bed of fiery leaves, was the passionate and spirited man who had accepted change as readily as any waterbender. He was the roar in the thunderstorm. His chest fell steadily, but blood trickled from his parted lips.

These were the ones who taught her what it meant to love herself, to come to who she was meant to be. These were the ones who had loved her as much as she had them. They held no illusions of her, but pulled her close when she needed to be grounded. They held her high when she was drowning.

In the moment of clarity, she strained against her restraining arm, ignoring the pain. As she felt the roar of the tide in the offending men's veins, she smirked. These men were fools - she would bend the heavens themselves for them, their bodies were child's play.

well....no. first off my ask was supposed to be a funny aha moment about people's headcanons. I don't why you had to go and kill the vibe. Also Katara gets teased with more love interests than any other girl in the gaang, I just think her not finding Jiang particularly attractive despite looking/acting like a jetaang lovechild was funny and most likely came down to how Hicks, the bisexual writer, interprets her character. I mean instead of stewing over imaginary scenarios you could just...keep indulging in your favourite yuri katara ships....like everybody else...?

Jiangtara is great.

After the war, (or a few years later), Katara joins Jiang's crew to deliver people medicine.

Whenever she visits she always give Katara's flowers which she'll put in her or make a bracelet with.

Jiang made her have a bisexual awakening. She thinks she's super cool,kind,and caring.

And thinks finds her rugged appearance attractive and want to kiss her scars.

She gets easily flustered around her and Jiang funds her really adorable and flirts with her.

AND they have a height difference??

Z U T A R A: my main ship for katara! their relationship development was so compelling and realistic (i.e. not just taking words at face value, but actually putting effort into actions to show the other person that you're remorseful.) i love how it is handled with such respect for katara's autonomy and her feelings. how not once is katara guilt-tripped or given excuses. how they were there for each other in their most critical moments and provided non-judgmental support. how they trust each other with their literal lives and were willing to die for each other. how katara trusts and believes in his goodness with such conviction, that she ultimately wins him the throne. i'm gonna cut it off here before i go into zk brainrot lol.

jintara: i like this ship because i think her and katara have a lot of similarities wrt their personalities. i also really like them as an ot3 with zuko (jinkotara) because they both canonically love tea, so why not throw in their tea-serving bf? also i see both of their loves languages as physical touch, so i can see them having fun teasing zuko, and doing gestures like jin did when she ruffled his hair.

maitara: i like the contrast of this ship. katara is openly warm and affectionate, whereas mai is a bit more reserved. in a post-war setting, i could see katara encouraging mai to be more assertive and expressive, kind of challenging the things she learned growing up. and i think mai would remind katara to take time to actually relax and have fun. i also like maikotara, but not in a fully romantic way. more like.... mai is katara's gf and zuko is katara's bf. and maiko are ... just friends that are here for the vibe, you know?

harutara: ok their sunset convo was kinda romantic ... or was it just me? i love how katara even tho he doesn't know her, is able to inspire him to push back against the "no earth bending" rule (even if it backfired because of that snitching old man.) katara is really humble and she doesn't really take credit for all that she does. i love haru's line "it wasn't the coal, it was you, katara." i thought it was cute when he asked katara to come back with them. and then, the next time haru sees the gaang, he again talks about how katara inspired him. i love a good ship where the boy is in complete awe of the girl.

jiangtara: gay people.

yuetara: the moon/ocean imagery just does it for me. i love the spiciness and potential drama of katara realizing that she likes girls when she falls for her brother's girlfriend. and the angst of her feeling that lost love once yue becomes the moon, having never told her how she felt (for obvious reasons.)

azutara: honestly, two pretty girlfriends. dassit.
