I’ve haven’t been this infuriated with a show in a while. The eighth sense is putting me through it. I am appalled, enraged, aggravated, vexed, my blood is boiling and I’m ready to throw hands…
Jae won needs to get rid of all his friends IMMEDIATELY. You know what, yes even the club president girl. Because she sometimes calls people out, but it’s never directly and other times she is silent & complacent, which can be just as toxic. I hate his fake a$$, arrogant, Mr jealous of jae won, always disrespectfully up in his business and entitled ‘friend’ tae hyung. I hate his rude, obnoxious, no sense of self worth because why are you kissing and chasing after a man who has made it clear - ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS- that he does not want you, self-absorbed funky a$$ ex. I WAS SO MAD WHENEVER THEY APPEARED ON THE SCREEN I WAS THIS 🤏TO THROWING MY LAPTOP ACROSS THE ROOM.
Our man jae won is literally nothing but a walking shell, no emotions or spirit left. And he continues to surround himself with trash because he fears that the genuine people in his life will suffer if he gets close to them. So he pushes our baby ji hyun away and hurts his feelings. HURT PEOPLE, HURT PEOPLE! And it’s worse because he has surrounded himself with people who don’t understand his pain and are not comforting or supporting him, they are just projecting whatever they expect from him onto him. From the dumb a$$ teacher using him to get a job with his farther, to his ex, the fake friend and those $h!tty surf club members who only care about their stupid little trip. F ALL OF THEM

❪﹝ ฺ★˒ 4TUNE ﹙ 4곡조 ; pronounced ATTUNE ﹚❫ is a south korean boy group formed and managed by LIGHT UP ENTERTAINMENT. originally known as a predebut group called DRAGON BOYS ( due to all of the members being born in 2000, making dragon their chinese zodiac sign ), despite their young age, the six members XIN, JITAE, YUYEON, JAEHO, JIANHAO, and KAIZ would quickly cement themselves as an act other third gen groups should be worried about; being the fastest group to achieve a perfect all kill, and winning best new artist and a dasaeng for song of the year at the mama awards just months after their debut.
like everything else, 4TUNE’s highs were also accompanied by lows. behind the scenes, the boys were pressured to be nothing short of perfect. being LIGHT UP ENTERTAINMENT’s only act, they were constantly forced to practice and make several comebacks and appearances to uphold their reputation.
the company was starving for fame and more specifically money. they would sell the boys personal schedules and sometimes even the hotel rooms they were staying at to get extra cash here and there. the boys had no privacy at all.
just before their first comeback, their original seventh member YESEONG would be pulled out of the company by his parents due to them being concerned about his safety. after seeing the other members with bruises YESEONG’s parents would also try to contact the other parents to let them see what was truly going on. but the boys were already so accustomed to it that they convinced their parents to let them stay. after all, they had been told that this was the price to fame, and that every other company would do the same.
the company would be under control of 4TUNE from their debut in 2016 until early 2024 when their contract would be terminated by LIGHT UP, harmonies are still awaiting the news of the group being bought by another company.

❪﹝ ฺ★˒ YUYEON ﹙ 임유연 ; lim yu yeon ﹚❫ is the leader of boy group 4TUNE born march 31st, 2000. he started training because he loved dancing, he went to the audition with his friend YESEONG and didn’t really expect much from it but got accepted anyways. he’s always been very quiet and shy, the most introverted in the group. to be honest he’s never really been very confident in his abilities as a leader; and it’s often speculated that he was chosen for such role because he was the least likely to talk back and protest to the things happening to the group. despite being really quiet off stage, he really tends to shine on stage. many harmonies say that he’s the member that drew them to 4TUNE.

Jazz For Two - Ep 1-6
Tall, dark, tortured seme and sunshine, gullible, but also strong and confident uke - how could I not fall in love with Jazz For Two 💖
I like Jazz For Two for so many things, it also has a very similar vibe to The Eighth Sense, even seme characters have the same brooding, aloof and detached aura and the same gloomy eyes and they also stare in the same way 😍
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The story is interesting and romantic, there are a lot of classically romantic scenes (there's even a kabedon! yay!), the main couple has a lot of scenes together, they touch each other a lot, they bump into each other, there is a lot of staring (yes!), both main characters are clearly very interested in each other.
I really like the character of Han Tae Yi, he is such a classic seme 😍 He is angry and jealous when he sees his crush in the company of another guy, he is protective and caring, he's helpful, but has terrible communication skills which makes him look like a dick. CLASSIC 👌 He feels remorse when he sees that he has physically hurt his crush (a very nice scene when he looks at Se Heon's bandaged hand). In addition, he has trouble sleeping (cured by the presence of his crush HELL YEAH) and a tragic event in his life, which affects him and his decisions in an interesting way (fortunately not in an annoying way, which is so common). Again - CLASSIC 👌
Yoon Se Heon is so wonderful: he is sweet, lovable, a little naive and gullible, but he has his dreams and goals and is determined to achieve them. I love how strong he is, how he fights with his handsome bully, and doesn't give up when he hears criticism from others or is abused by his father (I also like the fact that the series doesn't focus on this conflict and that Yoon Se Heon's life doesn't revolve around his dad and pleasing him). Like Ji Hyun in The Eight Sense, he too is more active and is the driving force in the relationship. I've always liked this kind of couple dynamic.
The second couple is also nice, but I must admit that I'm most interested in Seo Do Yoon, because he is both nice as a love interest and as a good friend. And he is cool and strong.
I like that the series shows characters' thoughts, that we have insight into their thought process.
I'm super happy watching Jazz For Two, because since the end of DFF I'm not particularly interested in anything airing now, I'm not thinking about any series. Now my thoughts keep coming back to my favorite scenes in this series. JFT also made me watch The Eight Sense again 🥺
Since last year, Korea has been giving me really interesting series and best couples, BUT I have to write about the distribution method, this is something I can't comprehend, how Korea works. There are two episodes of JFT on Gaga, there are 6 of them on IQIYI, I watched them normally yesterday, today they are no longer available in my location 🤷‍♀️ wtf Korea?
But other than that, I'm very pleased 🥰 Pleasant romanticism and music soothes my soul, and a hint of angst only adds to its charm 👌

A: Visit to the Filming Set (2023)
"I visited the set of Playful Woman. I visited with the production company CEO and greeted the director and actors.
Because the weather was hot, we also sent a coffee truck to cheer them on. I went with Jun-soo and only Jun-soo took a certification photo…lol
The production company's PDs kindly guided me around the set so I was able to tour it all.
I didn't take any pictures because I was worried that someone might appear for an unreleased drama, but I looked around Ji-hwan's house, Go Yang-hee's office, Mi-ho's house, etc, and it was all so interesting.
I used to watch a lot of outdoor filming when I was a drama fan, but this is my first time on a set….
Ji-hwan's office and home really smell like a Romance male lead. Meow’s office was luxurious. Actually, seeing the appreciation plaque with Go Yang-hee's name on it was kind of amazing hahaha
(I will delete spoilers from below on haha)
On this day, Ji-hwan, Eun-ha, Dong-hee, and Il-young were on set.
Unfortunately, I guess Mi-ho and Hyun-woo actors didn't have any filming that day, and I was curious about Yena too...And the actor who played Miho's father is someone I like, so I was sad that I couldn't see him ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
First, I greeted the actors, watched them film, and got their autographs during the intermission after the scene ended.
First of all, our Eun-ha, Han Seon-hwa.
We happened to be filming a scene where Eunha was just throwing her heart out to Jihwan, and she was really pretty and good at it! He said it was amazing seeing the original author for the first time haha.
Before I met Uhm Tae-goo, I knew from entertainment shows that he was very shy, so I tried not to talk to him lol, but contrary to my expectations(?), he welcomed me very warmly.
When he signed it, he said, “I’m a lot smaller than you thought in the original…” (ㅠ_ㅠ) “No, you’re so cool!” I said that and I meant it lol.
He looks great on screen, but he's really cool in person.
I didn't get to tell you, but at the beginning of this year, I was actually wishing for Taegu Eom to have a huge success…
By the way, TMI but my husband's name is Uhm Tae-*, so Mr. Uhm Tae-goo is like no one else lol.
The next autograph is actor Yang Hyun-min, who plays the role of Jae-soo among the group.
Actually, the names and lineup of the characters are different from the original, lol. At first, I didn't know what their roles were. Sorry.
"But this author is a washout huh? I asked, and he was surprised and said, "The author is the best... How could I possibly say the author is a washout..."ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
I also got the autograph of DKZ Jaechan, who plays Donghee.
ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Among the writers I'm close with, there's someone who enjoyed Jae-chan's dramas, so I had to brag about it, so I looked for Jae-chan's autograph diligently, and he was resting on a chair that looked like a male protagonist (you'll know him if you watch it on TV). Actually, before this Junsu came back from the bathroom and said, "There are two really handsome guys in the bathroom." I found out that one of them was Jaechan. As expected of a professional idol, he was really pretty and handsome.
The last one is Il-young, actor Kim Hyun-jin, who I loved the most in the original work.
He's really handsome, of course, and his tall height and his face is… small. Lol.
Since there is a tall person in my family, most people don't think as tall, but found out that I am really tall… and later I looked up his profile and found out that I am 189cm tall.
Anyway, our Il-young is cool from the visual standpoint. He said he hasn't signed much yet and was wondering what to write as a comment, so I just said, "I love you", and he really did lol. Now that look, he even drew a heart.
Il-young should've just been mine… I made him get with Mi-ho for nothing (groaning)
I greeted you warmly and finished my visit to the filming set.
The production company gave me the script for episode 12 as a gift. My name is also printed beautifully on the cover :) I originally thought it was going to be 12 episodes, but they said it was going to be 16 episodes.
I hope the remaining filming goes well, and I also want to see you on TV soon."
.
B. Watching Episode 2 Live (2024)
"While Jun-soo and I were watching the 2nd episode, the food poisoning milk episode came up.
I had a feeling from the moment Eunha ran into the hospital- "Now the mothers will throw milk at Eun-ha and Ji-hwan will block it with his body XD"
"Of course Mom would know because Mom wrote it."
"No, no that's not something I wrote. It's an episode created by a drama writer."
"But how do you know?"
"Mom has a knack for romance lol"
But I wonder what happens when I close my eyes and count to ten. Will he handle the parents while counting to ten...
I'm curious so I'll watch next week too.
Let’s all watch together hehe"

The New Employee 5 & 6
Episode 5
Ah okay back to the crush days. I didn't really have crushes in college, but I remember when I did get them and I both loved and hated the feeling.
So he recognizes the pen because he was there when it was purchased. That makes sense. I knew it was Yu Seong's because ~drama, but I have to admit I was curious about how Seung Hyun knew it.
Also, my dude. It's been literal years. Might be time to stop pining over your old crush.
Aw, Jong Chan is sweet. And the poor guy has no idea what the hell happened. YOU ARE 28 WHOLE YEARS OLD, SEUNG HYUN. Open your damn mouth.
Ji Yeon remains the best. I love her and I wish I had a bestie just like her.
I do love a good workplace romance but I also see the inherent issues in dating your boss. I am having the same problem with Mon and Sam in GAP. I like the trope, but also that's your money and your livelihood, people, do try to keep the love life out of the workplace. But then I also really like workplace shenanigans…
I waffle, is what I'm saying.
"You know how small our dating pool is" - ain't that the truth. And I don't think that it's bad that he and Yu Seong are still friends, in fact I think that it's a good thing. Especially since I get zero vibes of longing from either of them. I mean, they were only in a few scenes together, but from what I recall it almost seemed like Yu Seong was prodding Jong Chan in Seung Hyun's direction. Like a good friend and senior.
In a way, I think that it would have been better had the two of them dated. Since Seung Hyun never got to have that relationship he built it up in his head, made it a wall that blocks out any real thing that he might have been able to experience. And I don't blame Jong Chan for being frustrated, either. Also he has a cat and as a cat person myself, I can't have beef with a man who cuddles a kitty and uses it as an emotional sounding board for his feelings about his intern.
The cat text struggles are real, people.
Oh yeah Team Leader Choi is gonna be a problem.
I must say I do like all the pining this episode, but I'm glad everything got resolved in the same one instead of dragging out. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some drama, but it's also nice to see an adult relationship where they actually behave like adults and talk things out.
Episode 6
They are so cute. And I love a good height difference. Of course, nothing beats Semantic Error for that.
Aw, the way Seung Hyun says "hyung" is so adorable. The quiet little voice.
"Do you want to see my cat?" I love that this isn’t actually a euphemism. I have to admit that would get me, too.
Interesting that Jong Chan decided against journalism because he didn't want to do the networking and brown noising required to succeed. I mean, he's gotten by without doing it in advertising, but I think that all this workplace tension means that that's not going to last. People are already back biting at him, and at Seung Hyun for being kind of taken under his wing. One of them is going to suffer for Jong Chan's approach to work, and let's be real, the intern is easier to get at.
I like how much Jong Chan believes in him, though. It's sweet.
I really like how much Seung Hyun's whole team supports his efforts to get a permanent position in the company. They all root for him. As they should.
But he didn't get it, did he? I wonder if that is what the phone call that Jong Chan received was about.
Still feel like it will turn out to be deliberate sabotage. Manager Choi is my first guess, because he's a jerk, he's clearly jealous of Jong Chan, and he's noted the way that Jong Chan supports Seung Hyun. And as I already said, getting at the intern and ruining his chances is a lot easier than trying to go after Jong Chan directly, especially when he's so good at his job that the higher ups will do anything to keep him around.
I have to give it to this show, they manage to pack in a lot into a small time frame. The progression of the relationship doesn't seem forced at all, and both of the actors are really doing a good job conveying that they really like each other. They're also managing to get in enough conversation about important things that I can really see how they work as a couple. I've seen shows with much longer run times that don't manage it half as well.

Dressing Room Failures
Summary: Hyun is frustrated about not getting the lead in a new TV show. Min-ji tries to cheer him up.
Rating: T - Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes.
Words: 2200
Notes: Sweaty, semi-nude Zen would be a view. A shame I can’t draw.
Tumblr media
Zen is sulking.
He knows it is obvious, his derisive scowl is so entrenched in his face that he might think that it is going to be stuck like that, but he just could not bring himself to care. What does it matter if the media made jokes about him and his facial expressions? Right now, he felt like a joke anyway.
A woman stops next to him and shoots him a smile. "Hey, sourpuss."
He rolled his eyes at her, which was bad. He is probably going to regret it in the morning.
Min-ji Chang is the exception to everything when it came to Hyun, the only thing aside from maybe the deep hatred he feels towards Jumin Han who could pull him back to himself when he got like this. Right now, however, even the sight of her was annoying him.
He was sitting in his dressing room, in his underwear, the figurine and the old script laying forgotten on his feet.
"The antagonist’s role is amazing." The woman speaks gently, tapping his knee as she sits beside him. He thinks this is the first time in his life that her touch has not ignited butterflies in his stomach. "I’ve heard that they’ll be releasing it internationally. The Americans have already bought it, and the Japanese are in talks right now. It can be a real opportunity for you!"
Hyun does not care how many international markets are going to buy it. He is not the lead, and so it does not matter. He is tired of playing second-best.
"Last year, it was good…" He muttered.
"Don't start." She warned him.
He knew he was pushing his luck. Min-ji is only there to support him. She should not even be there, he is pretty sure that the people on wardrobe must be looking for her.
Part of him hated that she never jumped production companies to stay close to him when he left his old agent. He had managed to get her a placing, but she insisted in keep being a freelancer, and so it is rare that he ever gets to meet her at sets. In fact, the only reason why he took this job instead of any other crappy parts they offer him all around the city is because she told him she would be doing wardrobe here this season.
On the other hand, why did she need to follow him around? He means nothing to her, probably. He was nothing more than a colleague she got on well with, she had worked so well together all those years ago, but it was just a job. A work friend, but the kind she sends a Christmas card to, not someone who is in the card with her.
Hyun sighed. "It's embarrassing."
He could not look at her when he spoke. His stomach was twisting and he hated himself for it. Jealousy was an ugly emotion. Anger and bitterness and living in a world of what-ifs were also ugly, and the pale man did his best to constantly avoid them. He liked it when he was the cool guy, the calm guy, the guy who let nothing bother him. The Smooth Operator.
Hyun had not felt like that in nearly a year.
He managed to look at Min-ji then, and his chest tightened uncomfortably, along with his stomach making loops. She had those big doe eyes, eyebrows pulled together and mouth drawn down in what he really hoped is not pity as he finally could perceive her appearance. He knew what he looked like, his bloodshot eyes would have that wild look about them and his jaw was set, pushing his lips out into even more of a pout.
He sighed, the look on her face making him crack just a fraction.
"I just want…" He paused again. “I want to move forward. I don’t want to be a second-rate actor anymore.”
Those words had been haunting him. He struggled beyond words to get where he is, from dropping out of school and making gang work to survive, to gruelling auditions and being a line dancer in musicals of questionable taste, until finally breaking out into television. Now he had a proper career and a proper agent and sure, he had jobs coming from left and right and has managed to move into above-ground, and yes, this year they were coming in thick and fast and things were looking great.
Yet, he just could not seem to get a break-out role.
Every time he got close, like in this show, something happened. He was usually okay with making mistakes, everybody cracks under pressure, and accidents happen, but when he knows that he had given a performance of a lifetime and he is still left behind for the lead… Well, it hurts. It made it seem that there is a glass ceiling, that he is pressed against it, but that he will never shatter.
Then, there was the RFA. He loves these people, even the moneybags, and he is proud of the work that he does in there, but if he had known how exhausting and difficult it all would be, he would have never taken up V and Rika on their offer. He cannot stand the meddling in the shape of support, he cannot stand the realization that he cannot be bitter about things anywhere, and he especially cannot stand Jumin’s offer of “help” anymore.
Min-ji smiled at him. "I know, sweetie, but…"
Her voice pulled him back down to earth. He had been zoning out a lot lately.
"Don't say it." Hyun pleaded.
He is sick of hearing it. Everybody told him that his time will come, but the only thing he had in response was to wonder when. He is getting old, already, and if it does not happen soon… Well, it simply will not.
She patted him on the shoulder, her touch sparking a little bit of warmth when she squeezed.
"I wouldn't dare."
That made him smile because it reminded him that he can be bitter about things sometimes. There was always someone in his corner. Someone who does not care about his mistakes, who does not need or want him to prove anything or do anything. Someone who was proud of him for everything he had achieved, who is not still waiting to see what he might do. She knew him, for him.
Min-ji knew Hyun the way he liked people to know him, the way he let so few people actually know him.
Even her presence in the room was making him feel more like himself. He leant to the side to gently knock her shoulder, before sitting up a little straighter and running a hand through his hair, taking advantage of the sweat still clinging to it to push it out of his eyes. He does not care how many times he was asked to; he would never cut his hair.
She pulled him into a hug, even though he was still sweaty from the shoot. Her touch made him melt, her small arms wrapped around his waist felt better than anything else.
Hyun allowed himself a second to drop his chin onto the top of her head and inhale her scent. He loves how her shampoo smells of summer, wind and wildflowers.
Min-ji pulled away first, of course she did. For a second, she stayed close, her arms still around his waist as she looked up into his eyes and he felt his breath hitch in his throat because goodness gracious, it would have made so much sense to kiss her right then.
Yet, he did not, because he knows that she does not want that. She does not want him like that. They were friends. He had to remind himself every time he saw her.
Them being friends does not mean that he cannot push his luck, he argued with himself. He can invite her to the after-party that evening. He had a good cop-out if it did not work out, as they are friends, after all, and friends invite each other to parties all the time. Technically, the party was at least in part for him, and so he can bring whomever he wants. Plus, technically, she worked for the production, and so it is only natural for her to attend, even if none of the other assistants were invited.
"Are you coming to the after-party tonight?" He tried to sound casual, busying himself with putting on a shirt and pants.
Min-ji does not reply, and her silence spoke volumes.
Hyun felt his heart sink once more as he turned to her, trying to keep the pain out of his features. He was cool, he was casual, he does not care if a friend couldn't come to his party. He does not even really want to be at the stupid, stupid party.
Can the earth swallow him whole right at this moment?
She looked strange. Is she uncomfortable? She kept shifting her weight and she would not meet his eye. She looked, and shit his stomach churned, because she looked guilty.
"Um… Actually, I can't make it tonight." She responds, embarrassed.
Oh. Oh. She had plans. That was okay, she is allowed to have plans.
It does not feel okay and if Hyun had been sulking before, he was all but having an internal tantrum now because he does not give a shit about the party, not if she is not going to be there.
"Why?" He was asking her before he could stop himself.
He does not want to intrude, he does not want to force Min-ji to say it, to give out explanations to him, but there was a sick voice in the back of his head that just had to know.
"I, um… I'm going on a date tonight."
A date.
The word hung like a bullet in the air. His mind was racing, and, for once, he could not find the words in the Korean language to express what was going on in his mind.
He nodded, with his eyes trained on the floor because he could not bring himself to look at her. Not without imagining the guy taking her out, and that made him sick.
Min-ji made an excuse about being expected back at the wardrobe department and the workload, turning away to leave.
It does not feel right. It is too formal, too final.
Suddenly, Hyun was stricken by a sickening thought. If Min-ji went out with this guy, if she dated him, this would be the last time he saw her like this. He does not even know if he would get to see she alone again.
It was sheer selfishness that made him call out to her to stop.
He knew he had big pleading eyes like a pathetic puppy, and hell, he is not above using them. If he had to get on his knees and beg for her in that moment he would have without question.
"Don't go on that date." The actor asks, a demand on his tone.
She is staring at him like he was speaking a foreign language and, for a split second, he wondered if he actually spoken at all. She does not move, her expression not changing as her crossed her arms and stood in his doorway.
"Why?"
Shit. Did she want him to say it? Really? He had not expected for her to just jump into his arms but he did not think she would want to drag a confession out of him.
He huffed. "You know why."
The desperation in his tone made him sick. He had never been like this with anyone before, but she…
Min-ji Chang is something else. He was kicking himself that it took she telling him she had plans with someone else to say something.
She had softened her expression, her face morphing back to that sorry look that she had had earlier.
Great, so she is now pitying him again.
The woman dropped her arms, and the next words from her were barely a whisper. If Hyun was not so incredibly tuned into her, he would have missed it.
"Say it."
"I want you." He confessed. It does not matter, anyway, and she deserved to know. "Every day, all the time. I want you."
"Oh." She said.
It was more a rush of air than a word, but Hyun was on a roll and he did not care about consequences. Why not pour fuel on the fire? He had ruined the friendship already.
"You want me to say it? Fine. I will.” He was panting at this point. “I want you. All you ever have to do is say that you want me too, and I'm yours."
Min-ji is staring at him like he was a stranger. He could see her mind turning rapidly, and as desperate and as frightened as he was, he respected it. She had not come here for a confession. He waited as her eyes scanned the entire room, and then him, and then her feet.
"I need to go and cancel my date."
Hyun had never heard words so sweet.

Extracurricular, An Analysis
Tumblr media
Oh Ji-soo and Bae Gyu-ri
“Love is the ultimate outlaw. It just won’t adhere to any rules. The most any of us can do is sign on as it’s accomplice.”  - Tom Robbins
You know the story. You’ve heard it before, right?
Boy meets girl.
Girl finds out that boy is running a side protection business for prostitutes.
Girl decides to blackmail boy into letting her join his business.
Classic high school criminal shenanigans ensue leading them into more dangerous situations where they are forced to make desperate decisions to stay alive.
Oh, and they fall in love along the way.
Oh? You haven’t heard this one before? Then let me introduce you to this delightful kdrama called Extracurricular.
I watched this one while waiting for the newest Hometown Cha Cha Cha episodes to drop and ended up binging the whole series in two days. There are many remarkable parts of this series: it’s a crime drama, first and foremost, that showcases high school teenagers caught in a cycle of violence and crime, abandoned by the society and adults that are supposed to be protecting them. There are no clear good guys and bad guys in this drama; everyone is cast in shades of grey. Our main leads, Oh Ji-soo and Bae Gyu-ri, run the prostitution business, and are both from broken family backgrounds. Their actions are morally questionable at best, but the top tier performances from Kim Dong Hee (you might remember him from Itaewon Class) and Park Ju Hyun make you cheer for them anyway. You want them to have a happy ending, despite the horrible things they do. The audience is always reminded that despite how clever they are in staying ahead, their actions have consequences, and they’re just high school kids. The drama never pulls it punches.
But, weirdly enough, it’s also a love story. And that’s the part the really sticks with me until now. (The chemistry between the main leads is absolute dynamite and I could watch ten episodes of them just verbally sparring with each other. They don’t even kiss. They’re that fantastic when together on screen.)
I’m writing this because this is undoubtedly one of my all time favorite kdramas and I have a lot of feelings about our main pairing, Ji-soo and Gyu-ri. I can’t call them a couple (wait, didn’t I just say they fall in love) because their relationship can’t be labelled simply as that. Think of it as something similar to the main leads in My Ahjussi. Two people who should have become soulmates, yet met at the wrong time.
This kdrama is not particularly happy, and while I do encourage people to watch this, I am warning that the subject matter is extremely dark. If you’re sensitive to scenes depicting sexual assault, graphic violence, or anything in that zip code you’ll want to steer clear.
Also, I’ll be diving into spoiler territory in this analysis. So if you want to go in clean, then stop reading here.
Still here? Awesome. Let’s dive deep into the messy, amazing pairing that is Oh Ji-soo and Bae Gyu-ri. First, let’s do a brief character background on our two main leads, starting with Ji-soo.
Tumblr media
Oh Ji-soo is one half of our main pairing and this story starts with him. He lives by himself and has been essentially abandoned by his only parents; his father is a failed businessman who gambles whatever money he acquires on scams and his mother ran away. His apartment is small, sparse, but functional. He owns only a few outfits aside from his school uniform. The only unique item he owns is a pet hermit crab that he takes care of. His life outside of school is non-existent; he has no friends, no one to hang out with and do typical high school teenager activities with. He takes care of himself and lives only for himself and his “dream”: to graduate, attend college, get married, and have kids like a normal person.
But to do that, he needs a large amount of money. He has no other financial means to do so (his father is largely absent, as is his mother), so he decides, at some point, to start up this protection business for prostitutes. The drama doesn’t go into detail about the how and why he came to this conclusion that this was the best way to make a lot of money in a short amount of time, so you’ll have to suspend your disbelief from the get go. Considering the themes of the story (how youths abandoned by society tend to act out in extreme ways to make it in this world), it’s not hard to believe his desperation would drive him to make such a decision.
Ji-soo, despite his shady business, is actually a decent person. There’s a streak of humanity that exists inside him that refuses to go out, despite the increasingly dark and bleak events that start to overtake his life. He’s attached to his hermit crab, cares for his “employees” outside of them being tools to make him money, and doesn’t want to see anyone get hurt. He goes above and beyond what’s required to help out people at the risk of his own life (in particular, Gyu-ri, and we’ll get into that shortly).
What we learn from the first few episodes is that Oh Ji-soo is extremely smart and methodical in how he approaches his life. At school, he is known as a model student - quiet, top of the class in terms of grades, doesn’t draw any attention to himself, always follows along with what the teachers ask of him. Only his homeroom teacher, Mr. Cho, seems to consider his quiet style of existence to be concerning and tries to make him less socially awkward by pairing him up with another student in a new extracurricular club. This leads to the introduction of Bae Gyu-ri, Ji-soo’s longtime crush and future partner-in-crime.
Tumblr media
Meet Bae Gyu-ri, the other half of our dynamic duo. Her introduction into the story kickstarts the entire plot, as one of her earliest actions leads to a domino effect that spells increasing doom and tragedy for our main leads. She messes with Ji-soo’s operation at a critical moment and she spends the rest of the drama doing her best to make up for the consequences that follow.
In my personal opinion, she is probably the best main female lead I’ve ever seen in a kdrama. Hands down, no other character exists (currently) that rivals her sheer cunning, wit, and badassery. Gyu-ri is Crazy, capital C, and is the chaos to Ji-soo’s control; the fire to his ice. Despite being the direct cause of half the events that happen to Ji-soo in the drama, he can’t help but need her because of what she offers. They make an incredible team. Her competitiveness, her need to win no matter the odds, helps them survive time and time again.
Gyu-ri is from the opposite end of the spectrum of Ji-soo; he’s dirt poor and she’s insanely rich (always nice to see a reversal of typical kdrama tropes). Her mother and father run a successful entertainment company. Gyu-ri is popular at school, friends with seemingly everybody, pretty, cheerful and gets along well with her teachers. Ji-soo, and the audience, believe from the beginning that she has the perfect life. It’s not hard to believe that she’s just involving herself in Ji-soo’s business because she’s bored and needs an outlet, at first.
We soon learn otherwise. Gyu-ri has more in common with Ji-soo than he initially realizes, in that they’re both trapped in circumstances beyond their control - it’s just that Gyu-ri’s cage is gilded, whereas his is not. Her parents are strict and have her life planned out for her, all without her consent or input, leaving her feeling frustrated and powerless despite her rich lifestyle. A suicide attempt hasn’t done much to change her parents attitude towards her, only serving to further their control over her life.
So, when she learns of Ji-soo’s operation she immediately seeks to angle her way into it. First, she tries to rip him off, believing that he’s an evil “pimp” and thus deserves it. But after spending some time with him, she changes her mind last second and decides to help him out instead.
And, now, let’s get into their relationship, which is one of the best (if not the best) aspect in the entire series.
Tumblr media
I need to be upfront about something: the relationship between Ji-soo and Gyu-ri is not exactly healthy. I wouldn’t describe it as toxic - the circumstances surrounding them aren’t exactly the best environment to encourage open and honest communication - but it’s definitely not what should be considered ideal, especially for young adults, and especially for young adults who are dabbling in crime instead of studying.
So, why do I love them so much? If you’ve read some of my previous posts, you know that I loathe toxic relationships in kdramas, so I understand if you think I’m coming off as hypocritical here. Why do I like Oh Ji-soo and Bae Gyu-ri when I didn’t like, for example from recent history, (oh boy, here I go again on my Nevertheless BS) Park Jae-eon and Yu Na-bi?
First, Ji-soo and Gyu-ri are way cooler than Jae-eon and Na-bi ever could be. They run a criminal enterprise that involves having a high amount of intelligence, cunning, and daring to do so. Do Jae-eon and Na-bi run a criminal enterprise as a side business? No, they don’t, because they’re boring art students.
Secondly, Ji-soo and Gyu-ri actually progress in their relationship and change their views as they learn from each other. Now, granted, that progress isn’t towards becoming better versions of each other - quite the opposite. But at least they have progress. Jae-eon and Na-bi stayed in the same stupid cycle for the whole series and then decided that it was better staying that way as opposed to trying for something else.
Last, but certainly not least, Ji-soo and Gyu-ri are actually interesting to watch for me. The chemistry between Park Ju Hyun and Kim Dong Hee is explosive and they way they spar, exchange looks, and just generally exist around each other on screen is something I can watch forever. I’ve said this before but Han So Hee and Song Kang’s on screen chemistry, outside of their intimate scenes, really didn’t impress me.
Okay, back to Extracurricular. This relationship, man. It’s all I can think about (other than HomeCha’s Du-sik and Hye-jin, but that’s another post). Ji-soo and Gyu-ri are so good together.
I’ve noted before that Ji-soo is methodical in how he approaches his life; he plans out everything ahead, and rigs any situation as much as he can in his favor. It’s brilliant, but when a crisis happens, he doesn’t know how to deal with it effectively. He panics and flounders; becomes indecisive at a time when clear, decisive action is required.
Enter Gyu-ri. She quickly becomes the partner he never knew he needed. When there’s a situation, she becomes invaluable in her quick thinking and wit, coming up with solutions on the fly. It’s not perfect, but it keeps them just one small step ahead of whatever is coming their way.
The only thing preventing them from becoming unstoppable is the lack of communication and trust they have with each other. A lot of that has to do with how Gyu-ri entered Ji-soo’s business - she blackmailed him first, and, when that failed, she strong armed her way into getting him to accept her help. It’s implied in the drama that Ji-soo has had a crush on Gyu-ri for a while (since ninth grade, I believe) and in the first episode he actually gets the chance to spend time with her outside of school on a sort of quasi-date.
It goes sideways pretty quickly because of some shenanigans from his business, but not before she gets to know him and says some pretty touching words regarding his situation. Poor guy is head over heels - even after finding out that she’s the one blackmailing him, his feelings are only dampened, not extinguished. When he catches a glimpse of her family’s situation, he gains a deeper understanding of her and why she acts the way she does. Even more importantly, Ji-soo treats her the same after finding out this information which, to someone like Gyu-ri, means more than if he comforted her about it.
If you want to see a physical representation of how he feels, other than paying attention to his actions, you can see it in him keeping mementos from Gyu-ri. She has an interesting habit of folding bags into origami shapes and giving it to him. Even after the blackmail reveal, you can see that he continues to keep these in a container on his desk. It’s really cute that he keeps these, when it probably doesn’t even matter that much to Gyu-ri.
Towards the end of the drama, Ji-soo prepares to turn himself in to prevent Gyu-ri from being implicated in the crimes they committed. And it costs him almost everything to protect her. Ji-soo, the quiet, nerdy kid, puts himself on the line time and time again to protect Gyu-ri, knowing that it puts his life and his dream at risk to do so. And all for what? For some girl that he thinks doesn’t even like him in return?
Well, let’s talk about that. Because I’ve seen some comments that Gyu-ri was only using Ji-soo for her own selfish gain. And I can agree that was how it was at the beginning for her; she definitely was only interested in acquiring money, like Ji-soo was, in order to achieve her own goal of being free from her parents.
But, oh man, that is not what is motivating her at the end.
It’s actually pointed out relatively early by some of her friends that it’s obvious that she likes Ji-soo more than he likes her. Understandably Ji-soo is keeping her at arms length from him given the whole recent blackmailing, so it would make sense that it looks that way.
Further questioning reveals what she likes the most about him:
“It’s not like I’m crazy about him. He’s fun. And amusing. He’s smart. And there’s a certain charm he has. He also has a wolfish side to him. But he thinks he’s a puppy.”
- Bae Gyu-ri
But, as she gets to know Ji-soo better, you can certainly see that she starts to fall hard for him. As a cover story for why they hang out so much together during and after school, Gyu-ri states to everyone that they’re dating. The reactions across the school definitely imply that this is a shocking development, which means that Gyu-ri hasn’t dated anyone before. So why Ji-soo other than the reasons she herself states?
He challenges her, just as she challenges him. Gyu-ri may be the more dynamic, quick thinking of the pair but Ji-soo is every inch her intellectual equal - just in different ways. She doesn’t seem to be the type to be easily impressed, but you can tell that she’s definitely impressed by Ji-soo’s operation and how thoroughly set up it is. When Ji-soo is frustrated at the beginning by his setbacks, he blows up at another student (knocks him out in a crazy punch) and immediately walks over to Gyu-ri afterwards (who saw the whole thing) to inform her that she is now his partner in crime.
The look in her eyes, and the small smirk she has speaks volumes about her attraction to him in that scene. Smoldering.
And, oh yes, she’s prone to jealousy. Another classmate, Min-hee, gives Ji-soo a present out of the blue (it was supposed to be for her boyfriend, Ki-tae, but that’s another sub-plot) - all within view of Gyu-ri. It’s hilarious how she tries to brush it off. Later, for plot reasons, Ji-soo has to spend more time with Min-hee which only furthers Gyu-ri’s annoyance.
And her motivations stop being entirely about the money and more towards helping preserve the dream that she and Ji-soo share about being free. There’s a scene in episode 8 where it’s revealed that, due to a business partnership with a local gang (set up by none other than Gyu-ri herself in a desperate move), Ji-soo would have to drop out of school permanently to work on their behalf. Gyu-ri overhears this and, despite badly needing the gang’s help in sustaining their own business, immediately terminates the partnership.
All because it would interfere with Ji-soo’s dream.
Man, if that isn’t love.
In the following episode, Gyu-ri, and later on Ji-soo, is kidnapped by the same gang in retaliation for terminating their partnership. Ji-soo comes to her rescue but Gyu-ri is already almost free (again, she’s really, really badass) and is demanding that they bring Ji-soo to her instead of running for her life.
Surviving this latest attempt puts the two in a reflective, vulnerable mood and Gyu-ri asks Ji-soo why he keeps saving her. Ji-soo asks later on why she keeps risking her life to be with him. They don’t say the answer in words but in an almost kiss (yeah, you read that right - almost).
And then, if you aren’t already convinced, Ji-soo crosses his one last remaining line in an effort to keep Gyu-ri safe; he accidentally pushes a fellow classmate down some steps and, instead of helping her, leaves her to die after grabbing the evidence she has on him and Gyu-ri.
Extracurricular pulls off quite the magic trick here, hiding this well done love story in the middle of a serious crime drama.
The real tragedy is that Ji-soo thinks that Gyu-ri views this whole business, and by extension his life, as one big game. It’s something that she takes offense at, visibly becoming upset when he says that.
But even if that were true, he should be assured since Gyu-ri doesn’t like to lose.
As they hurtle towards the end and face up to the consequences of their actions, Ji-soo and Gyu-ri undoubtedly lose sight of their original goals and dreams. They do some fairly horrible things to stay alive and ahead of the police who are close on their trail. You can’t really blame them for doing what they did; in the face of a society that has abandoned them, what they’re doing is a logical outcome to gain what they want so desperately and deserve so much: the chance to be free to live like normal, care-free people.
I can’t say for certain that they achieve that. The drama is serious in consequences and, at the end, the net around them is drawing tighter and tighter. I won’t spoil the ending scene for you, because I highly encourage you watch this drama yourself but I will say this: Ji-soo and Gyu-ri seem stuck in an impossible situation with nowhere to go, and no one to help them, with a clock ticking down towards either death or discovery by the police.
But, all the same, I’m always the optimist. They’ve gotten through situations like this before and they can certainly do so again. Maybe not as bad as this one, but not too far out of their league. And, like I mentioned before, Gyu-ri doesn’t like to lose. Especially when it comes to Ji-soo.
Their relationship is truly dangerous, as Ji-soo himself notes. Them being together is the source of their problems; they’re too much alike now, as opposed to the beginning of the drama where he stated that they’re too different. Their love is the kind of love where both of them are willing to burn the whole world down if it means keeping each other safe.
I’m a real sucker for those kind of love stories. No one’s a hero here. They’re just kids in high school, doing the best with what they know.
Who are we to judge what is right and wrong? Especially when the one committing the acts are high school kids who don’t know any better and just want to save each other?
Do we have that right?
Do they really deserve that punishment? Shouldn’t we be pointing fingers at the society that forced them to act this way?
Extracurricular really makes you think about that. Is it really so outlandish and terrible what Ji-soo and Gyu-ri do to survive when the adults who are supposed to be protecting them, teaching them better, have failed in their duty?
Maybe they really did win at the end. Not so much in succeeding in their goals but in gaining something that not even regular people are likely to find - a partner, a soulmate, someone who will stand by you no matter what.
If you do watch the ending, and are not an optimist like I am, then all I can say is this: whatever happened, they were together at the end.
They were together.

Hyunji: Rekindle
Part 1
"So, you're telling me, I should move to another agency? I still don't get it." Yea Ji leans back on her seat as she tries to wrap her head around what the CEO of the company she's under is trying to tell her.
She fully understood what they were saying, but what she wanted to understand was why. She had been under this company for nearly ten years, ever since she had started her career in the business. She knew everyone from the first floor up to the last floor up top. And everyone knew her inside and out. The familiar staff around her was considered family.
And now, at the near end of her contract, instead of talking about renewal, they were talking to her about transferring to another company, a company that hasn't even been established yet.
"It's not like we want you to move, Yea Ji-ah. But their offer is great for you and you'd surely benefit from it a lot. They were formal enough to invite you by contacting us first, and I personally appreciate it." Her boss starts, leaning over the table with his hands clasped together.
"We've been taking care of you for so long, and we would love to do so for some more. But they're offering you something we couldn't get you ourselves. You're like my daughter, and I want the best for you. Even if it means letting you go. Gold Medalist will be established January next year, it's new but it has massive foundations and connections. They're also co-producing a drama under TVN, and they would want you to be the lead if ever you join them. I've heard about the script, Yea Ji-ah. It's going to send you into a breakthrough, one you've been waiting for. This is good. It's hard to let you go, but this is what's best for you. And, after the drama, if they don't treat you half as much as we do, come back to me. We'll have you back in a heartbeat. "
She almost wanted to cry at her boss' words. How could someone, totally unrelated to you, treat you with so much care. She thought about it for a few minutes, silent as she sat in her chair buried in her thoughts.
She had trusted them for so long, and they had never lead her to anything that was bad for her. If they were so sure about this, then there was no reason she shouldn't.
The pen felt heavy in her hand when she signed the exit contract. This was it. She was cutting ties with the company that had handled her for so long. Adding to that, leaving the people that surrounded and took care of her felt nothing more than melancholic. It felt like saying goodbye to her family.
But she believed that it wasn't the end. They were still going to see each other at some point, treat each other as long time friends. They have already carved out a space for them in her heart, and it was theirs forever.
She spent the remaining months of the year traveling and staying at home with her dogs. Somehow, she enjoyed her unemployment. She was basically jobless, not forever, but she tried to enjoy it as much as she can.
Her schedule was usually demanding and draining, sometimes sucking the life out of her. But she also enjoyed the rush, and the thrill and even the sleepless nights and days. More to it, she enjoyed mastering her craft, improving her skills, and developing her prowess. And most especially, she enjoyed putting a smile on her fans' faces. That was the most important thing.
Funny how she never even considered acting as a choice before. She went to a different country to study and finished a totally different degree. When she came home, it came as a surprise also to her when she started working as an actress. Destiny, probably.
Acting was not her choice, acting chose her. Good thing she had a natural knack for it, born with the gift of excellence in anything she dived into. She was a natural-born actor, exemplary in the craft that had grown on her. She had learned to love it.
She was fairly underrated. Mainly because she had started later than everyone else. Compared to others whom everyone saw grow up in their screens, she was still seen as a fresh face, shadowing her magnificent talent.
The awards and all the recognition meant nothing to her though. It was merely unimportant. She wasn't in the game for fame, she was in it because she enjoyed playing. Strengthening her skills, bettering her capabilities. That's what was important for her. Improving, getting better. She wasn't someone who settled for less and provided for less. She wanted to be better, not only for herself but also for her co-actors and the people who are looking up at her.
She was happy with her career already, but the breakthrough her old boss talked about made her feel a little excited. Who doesn't want a breakthrough? She's read the script for the drama they were offering her and it gave her goosebumps. It was going to be a challenging character, but it was complexly marvelous. She always loved a challenge, and this one was a challenge she was willing to take.
That's what she thought about as she walked through the unfamiliar halls of her new company. It was a new environment she needed to get used to.
It was a new journey, she thought. And she'll make sure it was a journey worth traveling.
Signing the contract was quick. The new people that were meant to take care of her seemed kind, and they all welcomed her with warmth. She almost felt like they were family now, a new family.
Just as she makes her way to leave the conference hall, the door opens, sending everyone turning their head to one direction.
What came in after was something she never expected. Someone, rather. Her feet were stuck on the ground, heart rate gradually raising, hammering against the walls of her chest.
"Annyeonghaseyo!" The familiar voice filled the silence.
She hadn't noticed that she was holding her breath until she felt her chest ache from the lack of oxygen. This was what he did, not only to her, but to everyone. He took people's breath away. His presence replacing the air in the lungs.
When he locks his eyes with hers, her breath falters out in a shaky blow.
Those eyes.
"Kim Soo Hyun!" Her new boss exasperates, a loud laugh following as he welcomed him with a hug. She could only stare, watching them exchange hugs and greetings. She swallowed an invisible lump in her throat because just like her, his eyes never left hers.
"Yea Ji-ah, I'm sure you know our Soo Hyun-ah here." The CEO's voice thunders inside the room as he gently pulls Soo Hyun with him, walking towards Yea Ji who was statued in her spot.
She summons all the strength and might from within her and clears her throat lightly. She forces out a smile, nodding her head politely.
"Sunbae-nim." She eyes him for a spilt second, nodding once more.
It almost takes him aback. Sunbae-nim. Oddly, the way she addressed him bothered him. It had been five years since she first called him that, the memory crystal clear in his mind. He could never forget the first time he heard her voice.
What he didn't expect was how she's back to calling him that. It had been embedded in his mind the way she used to call him Soo Hyun Oppa. How it felt warm and comforting whenever she did, how it brought a certain degree of serenity. But now, it felt like they were meeting once again for the first time. Back to square one. Total strangers. The barren coldness in her voice made him feel empty.
He forces out his own smile, though reluctant. He nods his head, unable to look away from her.
"I heard you two worked together a few years ago." Both of them nod in unison. The memory of the ad they shot a few years ago flood their memories. The first time they met.
"De. Just for a quick ad." It was Soo Hyun who decided to confirm. Glancing at her from the corner of his eye.
"Well, if you accept the role, Yea Ji-ah, you guys would be working again."
"What do you mean?" Finally, Yea Ji found her voice.
"Well, he's the male lead of the drama we're offering you. If you choose to accept it, then you guys would be the main leads. So, I really hope you accept it, Yea Ji-ah. Both of you look so good together." Their boss nods his head as he looks at them back and forth.
She could only nod. She was totally taken aback by the information poured over her. Work together, both of them. Again. If only someone else knew about what happened the last time they worked together.
After a few more small talks, she finally managed to excuse herself. Her new boss bids his farewell with a warm fatherly hug, wishing her good luck and anoother triumphant welcome. She only looks at the man behind him, slightly nodding her head before she slides past the long table and walks out the door.
She releases a breath once she was out. She knew it wasn't impossible to run into him at some point. They were revolving in the same world, same business. It was inevitable. But she successfully managed to work without having to cross paths with him for so long, that when she met him today, totally unprepared and overwhelmed, she felt a slight rattle in her stomach.
And now, she was signed in the same agency with him, and may or may not work with him too. It felt like a train was rushing towards her in full gear, ready to slam against her out of her wits.
She was barely ten steps away from the door when someone suddenly grabs her hand. She immediately turns around, the shock making her jolt on her feet.
"Yea Ji. . . . ssi."
She stammered at the sight before her. Kim Soo Hyun, holding her wrist, so gentle and warm. His eyes were fixed on her, watching her as she looks down on his hand against her skin.
He immediately lets go, wary of the rationality of his impulsive action. He swallows an invisible lump, placing the hand he once had on her to the back of his nape. He suddenly felt warmth creep up to his cheeks, shy. He felt flustered with her presence and the way her eyes pierced through his.
There was something new in the way her orbs glowed. It was different from the ones that were blanketed with sullen shyness and sweetness. It was still there alright, but now there was something new. Confidence, a lot of them.
It made him weak in the knees. Flustered. Swivet. Now, he felt like he couldn't look her straight in the eyes. He can't even bring himself talk clearly.
"Uhm, " He lets out a breath. "Yea Ji-ssi. Do you want to go grab something to drink? They serve good coffee at the cafeteria." He tries to hold her gaze, but it was so intense he felt like he needed to look away.
He needed to look away to stop himself from advancing into something that might just freak her out. And that's the last thing he wants, freak her out.
Coffee. She almost wanted to chuckle. It also started with a cup of coffee. She unconsciously bit her bottom lip, thinking it through.
"You know, for old time's sake?" His anxiety was growing as he anticipated her answer. He was slowly trying to ready himself for whatever her answer is, slightly terrified if she said no.
She let's out a breath. For old time's sake. There was no reason to deny an old friend, acquaintance rather, a cup of coffee to share. It was just coffee. Well it was what she thought a few years ago too. Just coffee.
This time though, it's just going to be coffee. It had to be.
When she nods her head and releases a small smile, he almost wanted to jump up and down, fist the air like he did the first time she agreed to have coffee with him.
Shoving the fireworks of feelings erupting in him to the back of his head, he smiles. Stepping aside to lead her the way. She took cautious steps beside him, the fat obvious distance between them is failed to be unnoticed. But he doesn't push. He doesn't speak. He tries to bask in the silence between them, it wasn't as comforting as it was before, but it was with her, so he'll take it.
"Here." He enthusiastically pushes the glass door open, letting her enter first. Immediately, the smell of the freshly brewed coffee fills her nose, making her smile. She loved coffee. It never failed to comfort her in any way.
He found himself significantly jumpy, yet careful. He runs pass her, pulling a chair for her. He smiles, eyeing her shyly as she courteously nods, sitting down as he gently pushes it back.
He basically runs to the counter, ordering two cups of iced coffee. Watching her from behind, made him stop in his tracks. Her black silky hair cascaded down her back, sparkling under the sunlight that seeped through the glass walls.
Just as he remembered her, she sat with her back straight, her broad shoulders flat and hands clasped together on her thighs. She was anxious. She was like that the first time he had coffee with her.
And for some reason, it pulled out the melancholy in him.
He smiled through it as he carefully slides the cup of coffee towards her. He eyes her for a second as he took a seat, looking down immediately. She mumbled a soft 'thank you', her low voice sending a calm chill down the pit of his stomach.
His foot continued to tap against the tiled floor, his eyes fixed on his cup, his fingers holding it tight. He was nervous. Yet, he was excited.
Letting out a breath, he finally looks at her fully. Her light make up accentuated her features, her smooth glass skin glowing. She was beautiful, she has always been. And like she did the first time he saw her, she took his breath away.
He couldn't help but smile.
"How have you been?" He bites his bottom lip, anticipating her response.
She smiles. She's been trying to hold it in for a while, but she couldn't help it anymore. She smiles.
"I've been doing well. I guess you have too. I've heard you just got discharged from the military. Congratulations." She tells him with genuine sincerity, looking straight into his beautiful brown orbs.
He smiles, nodding his head. He had a scarcity of words. When he heard about her joining the company, he had thought of a million things he could say to her. Now that she was merely less than a meter away from him, he had nothing. He was enticed by her presence.
He didn't have this problem before, because whenever he had nothing to say, he would listen. He would sit in front of her, listening to her talk. She has the most beautiful, most attractive voice. And she loved to talked.
She talked endlessly whenever she was with people she was comfortable with, and he used to bask in the serenity and the calm that her voice brought. Her silence made him weary, has she lost the comfort she once felt for him long ago?
"It's nice to see you. It's been a few years since. . . . we" Broke up?
"Went our separate ways." She finished his sentence for him. She knew he had thought about saying they 'broke up' but they didn't.
It wasn't considered a breakup when they weren't anything, to begin with. They had just decided not to proceed with anything and went separate ways. It was complicated, but it was a mutual decision. Both agreed upon.
What happened to them was like fireworks. Sudden, beautiful and electrifying, yet short lived. It was a beauty not meant to last.
"Anyways, welcome to the company. I hope you consider taking the role, it would be nice to work with each other again. I would love to work with you." He says, hoping she feels the same way. It was true, he wanted to work with her. He had secretly watched all her movies, all her dramas, even the variety shows she was in.
She was a gem in the industry, and he hated how underrated she was. He saw how marvelous of an actress she is, and as an actor, he would love to work with someone with such dynamics.
It was just a bonus that it was her as well.
"I'll think about it. It would be an honor to work with you too, Sunbae-nim." She says, reluctantly nodding her head. There's so much to think about. So much to consider. But she was enticed by the complexity of the role that it would be so hard to let go of the thought of playing it.
As much as she would want to deny it, acting alongside him is inviting. He was a seasoned actor, talented and marvelous in his own right. The opportunity is one of a kind.
"Yea Ji-ah." The informality surprised her, making her stare. Making her heart make a small flip inside her chest.
"We were friends. We shouldn't be too formal. We are friends. Let's be friends? I-I want to be your friend. Yea Ji-ah." His voice almost started to tremble.
He was aware of how much she's changed. Evolved. She was already intimidating back then, now she was more than that. He almost felt like she was out of his league. And it slightly terrified him.
His breath falters when she pushes her chair back, fishing her phone to read a message. She stands up and politely nods her head.
He stares at her in bewilderment, slowly pushing himself up. His heart suddenly raced and slammed. Was she rejecting his offer of being friends?
He was about to say something, anything. But he doesn't get the chance because she smiles at him. Small but genuine.
"See you around, Soo Hyun Oppa."
He lets out a breath. A breath of relief as he watches her turn around and walk away. Dumbfounded, slightly, but he releases a triumphant smile.
The universe had been fairly cruel to them, but maybe it wasn't entirely. Sometimes the world breaks things apart so they could grow individually, so that when it's time to bring them back together, they would form an unbreakable beautiful whole.

Word Count: 2618
“Yah, Y/N!” The loud honking of a car horn that follows the call prompts you to speed up.
“I’m comin’, I’m comin’!”
Hurrying to grab your coat and purse and making sure the door is tightly locked, you sprint to Eun-Ji’s car, sliding inside carefully, a sheepish grin on your face. Your best friend looks at you disappointedly, mouth set into a firm line.
“Really Y/N? Fifteen whole minutes?!”
Throwing your hands up defensively, you shrink back in your admittedly plush seat, very well aware of Eun-Ji ’s fondness for shoulder punches.
“I’m sorry! It’s a hard job corralling my little rugrats in the morning. Just be thankful it wasn’t a full hour like that one time.” This time, the boys have been sent off safely to school with lots of hugs and kisses and a long wave goodbye.
Sighing, Eun-Ji fondly rolls her eyes before putting her K900 into reverse and peeling out of the driveway, the tires creating a loud squealing sound before the pair zooms off, ready to begin another day of work in the big city of Seoul.
The drive to work takes about 20 minutes, which is lucky considering the time it takes you and your babies to get ready. You and Eun-Ji chat the whole way there and even up to your respective offices, the two of you talking about everything from the latest Korean skincare and fashion trends, to who’s who in the zoo that is your hectic workplace.
Placing down your belongings, you and Eun-Ji head to grab something to drink, being pleasantly greeted by the both of your usually chipper best friend, Hyun Ki, on the way.
“Good morning! You both look lovely as usual today.” The sharp-eyed man smiles wide, causing Eun-Ji to snort.
“Flattery will get you everywhere Hyunnie. How are you this morning?”
“I was doing fine, until you’ll never guess who showed up.”
His statement causes you to tense suddenly, afraid he could be referencing your ex. Hyun Ki notices the gesture however, and throws up his hands in a way that is meant to be reassuring.
“Don’t worry Y/N, it wasn’t,” he shivers dramatically, “him. It was Bong-cha.”
Even hearing her name causes you to retch slightly in your throat. Bong-cha is known as the office mean girl, belittling and insulting every person she deems unworthy of her time. Her and her little clique of minions have taken a particular disliking to you and your friends. Call it jealousy, seeing as you’re known as the strongest and most capable trio of workers the company has seen in awhile.
“Ugh, that girl disgusts me. She acts as though we’re still in grade school.” Eun-Ji rolls her eyes, arms crossed and thumbs curled into her fists, a sure signal that she’s annoyed.
“Yeah, I just don’t understand why she hates us so much. We haven’t done anything to her,” you chip in.
Hyun Ki shrugs, waving his hand dismissively.
“Doesn’t matter why, all that matters is that she does.” He lowers his head and begins whispering conspiratorially. “I heard her talking to the boss about us earlier, and considering that A.) she hates us and B.) I’m convinced she’s sleeping with him, I’m sure nothing good can come of it.”
The three of you look around, trying to be inconspicuous.
“Is she still here?”
“She left with him some time before you arrived. Think they went up to the eighteenth floor.”
You and Eun-Ji let out relieved sighs, neither of you having the energy to deal with the witch right now. With an understanding nod, all three of you continued on your trek to the break room, grabbing your respective drinks and quickly heading back to your stations.
Getting right to work, you were able to get through quite a bit before being stopped by a loud ruckus in the main space.
Initially tempted to just ignore it, you simply returned to your work, trying to zone out once more. However, you were halted yet again, this time by Eun-Ji and Hyun Ki rushing into your office, slamming the door shut and throwing their backs against it.
“They’re here!” The pair whisper-yells in unison.
“Who?! And why are we whisper-yelling?”
Rushing forward, Eun-Ji grips your arm, pulling you to crouch behind your desk.
“Ok so, here’s what happened. We were all just chillin’ in the common area right-”
“Wait, you’re supposed to be working-...”
“Can you just focus?!” Your best friend shakes you slightly. You nod.
“Ok, so like I was saying, we were coolin’ it in the main area, when the boss emerges from the elevator. No biggie there right?”
You nod your head in affirmation.
“A second later though, Bong-Cha follows right after him, all high and mighty as per usual. And you’ll never guess who she brought with him.”
So many ideas rush through your head at the ominous tone in Eun-Ji’s voice that the main possibility completely slips your mind.
“Your. Husband.”
A cold shock riples down your spine at lightning speed, leaving you momentarily startled stiff. Eyes now unfocused, memories of sleepless nights, cruel words and deep feelings of regret and unworthiness blanket you like a thick layer of ashes. Eun-Ji is hyper-aware of this, and knows that the only way to move you out of your stupor is a firm, though not too forceful slap across the cheek.
Your hand moves to caress the stinging flesh before your mind has fully registered that you’ve been hit. Once you catch up however, you find that her method was successful, and you have a clear head again.
“Ok...ok, so my nightmare ex is here and he’s apparently accompanying my worst enemy.”
You take a moment to consider the positives about the awful predicament you now find yourself in.
“Well, at least the kids are safe.”
Eun-Ji hums in agreement.
“You’re right. But we gotta figure out how we’re gonna deal with this now.”
Taking a deep breath, you begin searching your mind for ways to face your ex and bully.
"Actually, the solution is quite simple. I'm gonna face them both like adults."
With a nod of surety, you stand tall, straightening out your clothes and clearing your throat.
Hyun Ki, after locking the door, approaches you slowly, expression pensive.
“Y/N...are you sure you’re ready for this? I mean, as far as we know you haven’t talked to either him or your sister since...the incident.”
At that moment, before speaking, you decide to keep your last interaction with your ex a secret.
“I know Ki, it’ll be alright though. I’m a grown woman, I can handle adult situations accordingly.”
Rounding your desk, you take your time reaching for the door handle, hand hovering for a moment before you’re jolted out of your hesitative stupor by a loud knock.
Standing back, you barely avoid being hit before the door swings open wide, leaving you and your friends shocked and more than a little confused. This feeling amplifies, and is further accompanied by annoyance once you see who it is that has decided to barge in unannounced.
“Bong-Cha, how may we help you?”
The woman is as tall and beautiful as ever, carrying with her an air of arrogance. Today she dons a two-piece, well fitting suit in the color charcoal grey. A pair of glasses- useless considering her near perfect vision- sit perched on her slim nose.
One hand rests on her hip, the other holds the door open by the handle. Piercing eyes survey the room slowly, mean-mugging each of its occupants in the process.
“I’m sure that by now your little lackeys have informed you of the fact that your ex-husband is here, and in my company.”
From behind you, you hear Eun-Ji snort.
“I simply came to give you a warning before you make a further embarrassment of yourself and this company.”
Drifting away from the door and letting it close behind her, Bong-Cha approaches you, eventually coming to stand so close her individual lashes are visible. Leaning forward she whispers in your ear, voice noticeably deeper and tone vicious:
“I care little for what transpired between the two of you in the past. In the present, you had better get it together and haul ass. I refuse to let you damage our reputation and jeopardize this opportunity with your husband’s operation.”
Backing away, she gives you a sickeningly sweet smile, eyes slipping closed with the motion.
“Ok?”
Without giving you or your friends an opportunity to speak, Bong-Cha slides out of the room, a pleased smirk gracing her ruby red lips.
You, Eun-Ji and Hyun Ki are left speechless in her wake, partially out of disbelief and partially out of offense.
“Well,” Hyun Ki finally speaks up after a few seconds. “We’d better get going then.”
Exiting your office, you’re surprised to find that everything seems to be calm, and not nearly as hectic and busy as you’d anticipated. You attribute it to Bong-Cha and the boss’s influence.
With Ji and Ki leading ahead, the three of you make your way to Mr. Choi’s private conference room. Upon entering, your breath catches in your throat at the sight that greets you.
Inside the room, Mr. Choi and your ex sit across from one another, laughing and chatting as though they were good friends. Bong-Cha stands slightly behind and to the right of your husband, hands folded in front of her  and a self-satisfied smile on her face.
The cajoling stops once your group is recognized, and you can’t help how you slide to hide behind your slightly taller male friend. You notice with a small smile how his chest puffs slightly in response.
What you don’t notice is that your ex recognizes this as well, and frowns in displeasure.
“Ah, Ms. Park, Ms. L/N,” Mr. Choi pauses, giving a pointed yet fond look to his nephew, who playfully rolls his eyes in response. “Little Mr. Choi. A pleasure to see you all this morning. I’m sure you’re familiar with Mr. (member’s name).”
The three of you don’t immediately respond, instead sharing awkward glances.
“We are. Hello Mr. L/N.” Eun-Ji speaks, voice tight.
Your ex husband nods slowly, eyes never leaving yours.
Needless to say, his intense staring makes you very uncomfortable.
“Good morning Mr. Choi, Ms. Park.” He pauses. “Y/N.”
The older of the two Mr. Choi’s is taken aback at the informal greeting. He comments on it.
“Oh, Mr. (member’s name), you know Y/N?”
Suddenly, the tension in the air becomes so thick each of the room’s occupants can feel it weighing down on their chest. You carefully move from behind Hyun-Ki, clearing your throat before speaking.
“Yes sir, Mr. Choi, Mr. (member’s name) and I have known each other for quite some time.”
You decide to leave out the specific details.
Mr. Choi hums in acknowledgement.
“Really? Splendid! Then I figure this merger will be all the easier for you.”
“Wait-...”
“Mr. Choi!”
“Uncle!”
Eun-Ji and Hyun Ki exclaim loudly, each immediately retracting and looking away in embarrassment.
The boss man glances at each of them, confusion written over his face.
“I’m sorry, is there a problem?”
His tone is agreeable enough, yet the “even if there is, it doesn’t matter” is heavily implied.
Acknowledging this, you shake your head, signaling behind your back for your friends to do the same.
“No sir, that will be fine.”
Mr. Choi nods, apparently pleased.
“Good. I’ve decided to assign the four of you, including Ms. Jung, to handle all correspondence as it pertains to this assignment with Mr. (member’s name) and his company. And with Y/N as leader, I expect to see nothing less than the best from this team.”
Mr. Choi gives each of you a lingering glance, his gaze sitting suspiciously longer on Bong-Cha than the rest of you.
“I will give you all some time to get acquainted, after which I will fully turn you over into the hands of (member’s name).”
With a bow to your ex, Mr. Choi exits the room.
Now the five of you are left staring at one another in a strained silence. After a few seconds however, Bong-Cha claps her hands together, then extends her arms in a gesture that you suppose it meant to be welcoming.
“Well, since the four of us know each other well enough, and I’ve already had an opportunity to speak with Mr. (member’s name) here, I think we should let the old acquaintances catch up, yes? I figure they’ve much to talk about.”
Your best friends immediately begin protesting, but their words fall on deaf ears and they are quickly shuffled out of the room by Bong-Cha, who throws you a less than wholesome wink on the way out.
Your eyes plead silently with Eun-Ji, but there is little she can do except leave you with a small, encouraging smile as she’s pushed out of the room.
With the door slamming shut, you are left to face your ex husband all alone.
There’s a strange spark in the air, something sharp and almost dangerous. It unnerves you greatly.
“Y/N-”
Without a word, you lift one of your hands to stop him. He pauses, eyes widening in surprise, then narrowing in frustration.
“I don’t need you to speak, (member’s name). We have nothing to talk about. You and I both know why Bong-Cha forced us into this room together. She hates me, and figures this is the perfect way to make me squirm.”
You shiver a bit at the thought.
Your ex’s shoulders deflate, and he releases a tired sounding sigh.
“Please Y/N, I know the last time we spoke wasn’t the most pleasant but I really do want to apologize. More even than that-...”
He approaches you suddenly, hands coming up to grip your shoulders.
“ I want to see my sons.”
“(Member’s name), no, we’ve had this conversation a thousand times already.”
“And I’ll bring it up a thousand more!”
“Quiet down! You’ll draw attention.”
Your ex massages the bridge of his nose, hand placed on his hip.
“God, Y/N...why must you be so difficult? You won’t even let me show you that I’ve become a changed man. I did change, Y/N, for you and for our kids.  The only reason I agreed to this merger is because I knew it would get me closer to you. And I know that sounds stalker-ish but it was the only thing I could think to do. I know you hate me, I know I fucked up big time, but Y/N, I still love you. Believe it or not I do. It was a huge mistake thinking someone else could replace you, especially your sister.”
He moves his hands up to cup your face, and you, nearly moved to frustrated tears, simply lets him.
“All I’m asking, is for one. More. Chance. Can you, at the least, give me that?”
The both of you are silent for a few moments, the only sound to be heard that of both your breathing.
After a moment, you’ve made your decision, and you let him know but pushing his hands away and turning your back to him.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t.”
He is silent for several seconds, before you feel his presence directly behind you. Before you can turn around to address him, he leans forward to speak directly into your ear.
“My patience runs thin, Y/N. I’ll give you some time to reconsider your choice. I recommend that this time, you choose more wisely.”
With that, he glides out of the room, leaving you in disturbed, and disbelieving, shock.

Anxiety can kiss my ass cause I love this edit and I hope you all do too.
Tumblr media
Plump lips parted in a long sigh. Do Kyungsoo let his school bag slip off his shoulders and wiggled out of his navy blazer, hanging it in the closet next to his blue hoodie.
"Mom, I'm home," his voice cracked as he threw his bag back over his shoulder and made a dash for his room. He dodged Nari at the top of the stairs, narrowly avoiding the stack of towels she juggled.
"Slow down, Young Master," her tone was enough to hasten his speed.
"Good evening!" He sang to her, his deepening voice an unusually smooth lilt.
Nari set her lips in a straight line, but as Kyungsoo leveled his round eyes at her, blinking rapidly, she broke into a smile.
Waving him off, she continued down the stairs as he slipped into his room.
Changing out of his uniform was the best part of his day, though most days were spent entirely in that uniform. At least this one was more comfortable than the one he'd had for the last few years. High school did have some perks. It also came with more classes, harder curriculum and the added stress of worrying about college and career.
Not that he really had to worry about a career. He was an only child and as long as he wasn't a blithering idiot, he would inherit his family's business, The Ganghan Company.
And he wasn't a blithering idiot.
But, Kyungsoo didn't like school. In fact, he hated it. Tests, studying, and group projects where everyone was graded together. Kyungsoo was at the top of his class, but it wasn’t because he was particularly smart or liked to learn. It was what his parents expected of him. The long hours, constant studying, and after-hours cram school were all for his parents’ benefit.
It was a good thing that he happened to learn quickly. It never took him long to master a subject.
Kyungsoo dragged his books and journals out of his bag and set up his desk. There was a system, book to the left, journal to the right, pens and highlighters to the right of that. There had to be organization.
Kyungsoo popped on his headphones, turned up the music (Chanyeol's remix of American R&B songs) and began to study. There was a paper due soon and a round of exams that followed. He would likely be studying late into the night, which he hated since sleep was his one true love.
Once his groove was set, it would take a disaster to bring him out of it. Nothing short of an earthquake, or a tornado ripping the roof off could pull him from his concentration. Except his mom staring at him like a stalker from his bedroom door. He ripped the set off his ears in a frenzy.
"Jeez mom, could you announce yourself? You scared the crap out of me."
"I did. Your music was just too loud for you to hear it," she chided.
His mother approached with a tray loaded with spaghetti and bread sticks.
"Whaa, what is this for?" It was one of his favorite dishes, but it was rarely made in the house. He was lucky his parents allowed him to try whatever he wanted when they ate at restaurants, but at home, it was strictly traditional.
"It’s been a while," she sat it on the space he had cleared off, "and you have been working so hard lately."
"Got tests coming up," he said between bites.
"There is something I wanted to ask you though, completely unrelated to the food."
"Mmm,"Kyungsoo only gave half his attention. Nari’s spaghetti was too good to not savor every bite.
"Lee Jae-Eun is going to the same academy as you now."
He grunted, "Who… oh… you mean Auntie Joo Hyuns’ daughter?"
"Yes."
"Ehh,” he shrugged, “What about her?"
She sighed, “well… her mother is afraid there are some girls that pick on her. I was hoping you could keep an eye out for me?"
"Mom… no! That's creepy." Kyungsoo moped.
"Oh, really Kyungsoo! I'm not talking about stalking her. Just keep an eye out. Her brothers are older, one has already been sent to the states and the other doesn’t see her during school hours. If you see something just let me know. Or maybe stand up for her."
"I don't get involved in other peoples’ problems, Mom."
"Well that's a lie if I ever heard one. Do you think I didn't know that you hid Park Chanyeol in this room for two weeks last year when he fought with his father? Why do you think there was extra food on your dinner plate?" She scolded.
"Uhh… but he's my best friend." Kyungsoo's voice cracked. He hated it when that happened.
"You have eight best friends, and you would help any one of them. This is my one and only best friend’s daughter. She's practically family. Please help me out this once." His mother pushed.
She had a point. Their families ran in the same circles, they attended the same parties… only neither of them were particularly social. There was only one time they had met that he could remember, when they were 6 or 7. He had just wanted to read his books, and Jae-Eun just wanted to draw in them. Kyungsoo hid any time their moms were together. He had so little interaction with her he couldn’t even remember what she looked like.
Only the fact his mother had let slip that she wanted them or marry. Jae-Eun was the girl they intended to be his wife.
Kyungsoo sighed, he should have known it was no use to say no, he could never deny his mother. "Alright, I'll keep an eye out and if I see anything, I will let you know. But that's it."
His mother wrapped her arms around Kyungsoo's shoulders, squeezing tightly.
"Thank you, my sweet boy."
Kyungsoo shrugged her off. Ugg, feelings! Why did his mom have to hug so much?
"Okay, okay! Don't get so worked up about it."
She snatched her hands away. "Right, you're a high schooler now. Too cool for mom."
His mothers’ attempt to be understanding elicited a groan from Kyungsoo.
"I’ve got to study." A feeling of guilt washed over him for brushing her off, but he just didn't like to be touched. He sighed in relief when she left his room.
Kyungsoo put his headphones back on and read as he finished his dinner.
****
He didn't keep an eye out.
As a matter of fact, Kyungsoo completely forgot about the conversation. Tests and papers filled his time, friends took up what was left. It wasn't that he didn't think it was important. He did, but Kyungsoo's mom had just asked at the wrong time. There were too many coals in his fire.
Two weeks passed. The girl didn't even cross his mind. He aced his test and got a perfect score on his essay. He should be skating easy right now, but his super, awesome best friend, Byun Baekhyun nominated him as class leader at the beginning of the year and somehow, he won. Being class leader came with certain responsibilities, like running errands for the teacher.
It was pushing into his lunch time, and that was an unforgivable offence. Stupid responsibilities, stupid Baek and his stupid volunteering, making Kyungsoo be social when all he wanted was to keep his head down and get through this.
He took the south stairs, it was rarely used and popped out conveniently near the teachers’ offices. Getting this done and making it to lunch was top priority. This was one of those times when lunch would be the only break he had for the day, unfortunately luck was not on his side.
Between the second and third floors, a group of girls had another one cornered. Kyungsoo slowed, it would be better to take another route, he didn't want to get involved in someone else's mess.
It was that moment, as he turned away, he remembered what his mother asked. Kyungsoo swiveled on his heels and crept further down the stairs. Han Bora and her cronies circled the girl, her face hidden from him.
"You think you are so much better than everyone else. Just because your parents are rich you turn your nose up at everyone," Bora mocked.
"That makes no sense, your parents are rich too or you wouldn't be in this school. Not that it seems to be helping you much," the girl replied.
Bora huffed, "this girl… yah, Lee Jae-Eun… I'm your senior in this school. You think you can talk to me like that?"
Kyungsoo's eyes widened. So, Lee Jae-Eun WAS being bullied, and he had to come upon it today of all days.
"You have to give respect to earn respect." Jae-Eun said simply, holding her books to her chest.
Bora's best friend Choi Min-Ji flung her hand, smacking the books out of Jae-Eun's arms. Jae-Eun stumbled backward in surprise and another girl shoved her back to Bora.
"I should teach you a lesson. Knock some sense into you."
Jae-Eun held her head high, "Will that make you feel better about yourself?"
"Hey…" Bora yelled. Then she swung.
The slap bounced through the empty halls.
It echoed in Kyungsoo's head. Long, dark, hair flew in a fan as Jae-Eun's head spun from the force. It made Kyungsoo's stomach turn. He considered stepping in but Jae-Eun straightened, raising her head to Bora in defiance.
"Maybe you should try that again, you're still ugly inside."
What the hell? Why would she provoke Bora further? The girl wasn't one to be intimidated nor was she forgiving. Jae-Eun would only make it harder for herself. He had attended school with Han Bora for most of his life. Last year, while she was in high school and he was still in middle, was the most peaceful year he had experienced.
Another slap rang out across the halls and Kyungsoo's stomach dropped to the floor. He should do something. At least help her escape.
Before he could come to his senses, the folder flew out of his grasp, raining paper down the stairwell. His hands held tight to the rail as he faked his feet out from under him and stumbled down the remaining steps.
"Sorry… sorry, excuse me," he clumsily reached for his papers and Jae-Eun's books as Bora and her minions laughed.
Kyungsoo straightened the papers in the folder, keeping his head low. He would be embarrassed if someone walked up on him being bullied, the girl probably didn't want to be seen.
A stray paper appeared in his gaze. His eyes lifted, and met hers, Lee Jae-Eun. She knelt directly in front of him. Wide eyes were on his, both cheeks an apple red.
He couldn't turn away. She looked different from the picture his mother had recently shown him, her school picture from the year before. The round face had thinned out, making her appear older, her eyes seemed more exotic, lips fuller. His tongue darted out nervously to moisten his own.
She wiggled the paper in front of him. Kyungsoo blinked, dropping his gaze again, taking the paper she offered.
"Thanks," he whispered.
"Mmm," she acknowledged him, pivoting to gather her books. Taking advantage of the girls’ amusement, Jae-Eun slipped past them and scurried down the stairs.
His heart pounded. What the hell had just happened? Why had he just stared at her like an idiot? Damn, he was an idiot. She had escaped, and he was surrounded by girls.
"Hey, Do Kyungsoo, do you like her or something?" Bora laughed.
He didn't even know her, but he sure as hell was impressed so far. If she were to be his future wife, he couldn't find it in him to be mad.
And he protected what was his.
"Han Bora," he faced her, his deep voice steady and solid, "Don't mess with her again. This is the only time I'll ask."
Laughter rang out among the girls again.
"Or what? You don't scare me, the school doesn't scare me, my parents don't even scare me!"
Maybe not, but he could guess what did.
"Choi Min-Ji, your parents work at Ganghan, don't they? Kim Young-Ah, yours too? And Bora, your dads’ even a Chairman for Ganghan. I've seen all three of you at Ganghan company parties. MY companies’ parties."
Kyungsoo wasn't familiar with using intimidation, but somehow, he felt he could pull it off. Astigmatism caused him to squint and look angry most of the time. His voice wasn't even cracking, it was low and smooth and felt a little dangerous. If they kept messing with Jae-Eun, he would be.
"It would be a shame if they were to suddenly find themselves out of a job, connections gone with no prospects. That life you're so used to, this fancy school you think you run all a distant memory. You’d lose that nice, big house and be sent to a public school. You’d actually have to do your classwork; daddy wouldn’t have the money to pay off your teachers then." He glanced at the other three girls who followed her around. "I bet I could find where your parents work as well. Ganghan reach is quite extensive."
Bora huffed, "you couldn't… you wouldn't."
"I can and will if I hear you mess with her again."
The girls fell deadly quiet. The fear in their eyes told Kyungsoo he had made an impact. He could get used to that.
"Why would you defend her? What is she to you?" Bora shook her head in disbelief.
Kyungsoo stuck his hand in his pocket and started down the stairs, "She's family."
He left the six girls in the stairwell to finish his duties, confusion on their faces.

My top 10 korean dramas of 2019
10. Extraordinary you. Based on a webtoon, I actually almost missed this one because it looked like the typical high school drama but I got curious and watched it. The story is about a girl that realizes she is actually a secondary role on a webtoon and that her life is being written by the author. Nevertheless she makes the decision to make her own story and falling for whoever she chooses. It definitely is a silly rom-com but with a spin. The chemistry between SF9′s RoWoon and Kim Hyeoyeon is what made binge watch the 32 episodes (around 35 minutes each) in just a couple of days.
Tumblr media
9. Her private life. Kim Jae Wook and Park Min Young star in this really fun rom-com based on a korean webtoon about a girl that lives a double life: being an art gallery curator and also a devoted super fan of a member of an idol group (played by One). However everything changes when the new gallery director, Ryan, arrives with an agenda that will make her worlds collide. I wasn’t a huge fan of how they portrayed super fans. I thought it was a missed opportunity of really getting into the mindset of a those kind of fans.
Tumblr media
8. Vagabond. The first episode of this drama really got me excited about it but somehow after a couple of episodes I started loosing interest. When I watched it after a while I somehow finished the whole thing. I think it had its ups and downs but all in all an interesting action romance drama. Lee Seung Gi plays a stunt man that somehow finds himself a father figure to the son of his deceased sister. Money troubles weights him down but he works hard to make a decent living for his nephew. However the kid passes away along with several others in a plane crash. He discovers it wasn’t an accident and he turns his life around to take justice at his own hands. Along the way she meets an agent of an intelligence agency (played by Suzy) and they both work to find the people behind the plane crash.
Tumblr media
7. When the camellia blooms. The main characters of this one are not only endearing but really funny. Gong Hyo Jin has always been one of my favorite korean actresses and this is my favorite part Kang Ha Neul has done. This popular drama is about a single mother who owns a bar and a policeman who falls for her and will stop at nothing until he wins her heart but nothing will come easy for these two, they will have to face several challenges from a killer on the loose to a conservative mother.
Tumblr media
6. Chief of Staff. This drama had two seasons last year something different from the usual modus operandi of korean dramas. Honestly I enjoyed the first season more but even if the story line was a bit messy sometimes, it really was an interesting political drama. Lee Jung Jae plays a character that definitely made me remember House of Cards and The West Wing but in a very korean setting. A former detective is now chief of staff to a congressman and has strong ambicions but he always seems to be stopping fires. It was a very well made drama. Shin Min Ah, Lee Eljah, Kim Dong Joon, Jung Woong In and Kim Kap Soo were all amazing on this one.
Tumblr media
5. SKY CASTLE. This drama gave much to talk about in Korea because it revolves around the pressure parents put on their children to make it to the best universities in the country. The story is set in a rich neighbourhood in Seoul and it shows how some parents will stop at nothing to make their children excel and how it reflects on those children. That dynamic made for an intense 20 episodes. The cast did an amazing job.
youtube
4. Hotel Del Luna. This was a great fantasy drama and I was going to rank it higher but truth is in the second part I felt like they drag the conclussion a bit more than necessary. IU plays Jang Man-Wol the “owner” of Hotel del Luna a place where spirits stay before they pass on. Goo Chang-seong (Yeo Jin Goo) is an assitant manager of a hotel corporation who suddenly learns his father made a deal with a woman that he would have to work in her hotel except her hotel in unlike any other. He’s forced to work there but he refuses to do things like Manwol wants him to and tries to change her mind set. She lives with regrets which has made her have a bad attitude but her walls start to fall down with Chang Seong around. This drama was truely addictive.
youtube
3. One Spring Night. This drama by Ahn Pan Seok was beautifully shot and it deals with how single fathers are looked in a conservative society like Korea and how parents put pressure on their kids to marry well. The tone is definitely similar to Something in the Rain, his previous work also starred by Jung Hae In. Han Ji Min plays a girl in her 30s that has a boyfriend who she’s expected to settle down with but realizes she doesn’t want to marry him just because it’s about time. She meets a single father and she falls for him but society gets in the way and they both will need to decide whether they are strong enough to go against social standards to be together
youtube
2. Crash landing on you. I was waiting for a Hyun Bin drama and finally he did this one with Son Ye Jin and it really turned out great. It’s still airing so I might be making a mistake by ranking this one so high. I really love it though and it’s clearly popular since it’s making double digit ratings which for a cable drama is difficult. The story is about a girl that has an accident that lands her on North Korean soil and seeks help with a North Korean officer to help her return to South Korea. He agrees and they fall in love in the process. It makes for a sweet fun drama but the fact that they are from two countries in conflict will make it difficult to stay together.

1. WWW: Search. Sometimes you just connect with a drama and that’s what happened to me with this one. It might not have been the greatest love story on this list or the most innovative drama. However I was really drawn by the main character played by Im Soo Jung and also by the script .She really is a strong female character. I think the story really made some really good points regarding the power of social media in Korea as well as how corruption can disrupt the truth. Korea has a web portal in real life called Naver that basically works both as google and as twitter since it shows the top related searches constantly which makes all internet users aware of when something is popular whether is about politics or entertainment. In the drama there’s two portals that do just that: Unicon and Baro, Bae Ta-Mi is a director of Unicon but is betrayed and ends up switching companies to Baro and makes her goal to beat Unicon and make Baro the most used portal in Korea. At the same time, she meets a young CEO (Jang Ki Young)  of a small music company for games and he tries to date her after a one night stand. I also love the secondary couple played by Lee Dae Hae and Lee Jae Wook. The friendship between Lee Dae Hae’s character and Im Soo Jung is definitely one of the most fun parts of the drama.

Kdramas I’ve watched (part 1)
Hello! This is my first post ever! I wanted to create a list of kdramas that I’ve watched, and what I would rate them. I hope you enjoy this list and maybe find some shows to watch!
The Producers (2015)
13 episodes
Tumblr media
Synopsis: “A tireless group of young TV producers and a pop star work around the clock in the entertainment department of a major network” (Wikipedia). The show revolves around Seung-Chan (Kim Soo Hyun), a young man who begins his career for the KBS televisions network. He struggles to get along with his boss, Joon-mo (cha Tae-Hyun), who also happens to be a long time friend of Seung-Chan’s work crush, the music program producer Ye-Jin (Kang Hyo-Jin). Cindy (IU) a k-pop idol who has become rude, selfish, and narcissistic to protect herself from her adoptive mother/CEO and the constant stream of hate she receives meets Seung-Chan during a music show and begins to fall for him. Will Seung-Chan end up with Ye-Jin or Cindy?
Rating: 7/10
This was the first Kdrama I watched, and it was only because of my love for IU. Watching the show for IU quickly turned into watching the show for the plot and character development in general, especially Cindy’s and Ye-Jin’s. This show had plenty of funny, badass, heartfelt, and frustrating moments that always kept me interested. I especially liked watching the interactions between Cindy and her manager! I wasn’t a huge fan of the sort of love triangle between the three producers, but it wasn’t over-the top or annoying.
Oh My Ghostess (2016)
16 episodes
Tumblr media
Synopsis: “Timid Na Bong Sun gets possessed by the ghost of a confident young woman who seeks to solve her unfinished business by hooking up with Bong Sun's boss, famous chef Kang Sun Woo.” (Wikipedia)
Rating: 10/10
This is definitely a must see if you enjoy kdramas, especially ones that have lots of romance along with supernatural elements (and a bit of mystery)! I loved the character development of Bong Sun, going from an incredibly introverted girl who was terrified of the ghost she could see to being a talkative woman who refused to run away from her problems. The chemistry between the two leads was amazing, Kim Seulgi did a great job of playing a feisty and headstrong ghost, the chefs were hilarious to watch, and the plot of a murderer who had been possessed for years was interesting. I have zero bad things to say about this show, it’s too good.
You’re the Best! Lee Soon Shin (2013)
50 episodes
Tumblr media
Synopsis: “Lee Soon Shin (IU) goes through hardships after the death of her father. Soon Shin and her mother struggle to find happiness. Her love story continues in the mist of ups and downs of her life. Lee Soon Shin is the youngest member of a successful family. Despite her family′s successes, however, she seems to have failed to inherit any talent, and is marked as an oddball though she remains a bright, lively and courageous girl. She then meets the head of an agency named Shin Joon Ho (Jo Jung-Suk), and he turns her life around. Shin Joon Ho is a confident, cold and competitive man who changes later after he begins to understand the real meaning of success through Lee Soon Shin” (my drama list).
Rating: 5/10
This is another show I watched because of IU. It was incredibly hard to pay attention to a show that had 50 1-hour long episodes, so honestly I skipped through most of the parts that didn’t involve Soon-Shin. Yoo In-na plays one of Soon-Shin’s sisters in the show, but I didn’t particularly like her role. This show revolves around Soon-Shin being conned right around the time her father dies, and then actually becoming an actress with the help of CEO Shin Joon-Ho. She gains attention and eventually discovers that she was adopted and that her real mother is a popular actress who works under the same company. This whole show is very dramatic but has good intentions. I’m not a fan of the length of the show and I wasn’t really interested in most of the characters, but there were lots of lighthearted moments and I really liked seeing the relationship develop between Soon-Shin and the CEO.
Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (2016-2017)
16 episodes
Tumblr media
Synopsis: “In ancient times, Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) is an unbeatable general in wars, but the young King (Kim Min-Jae) is jealous of Kim Shin and kills him. Kim Shin becomes Dokkaebi (Goblin), possessing an immortal life. At first he thinks that he is blessed, but he realizes that he is cursed. Closer to the present day, Kim Shin has waited 900 years for a human bride to end his immortal life. One night, he saves a dying pregnant woman (Park Hee-Von) who is destined to die. Meanwhile, the Grim Reaper (Lee Dong-Wook) is unable to find the dead pregnant woman. The woman gives birth to a baby girl named Ji Eun-Tak (later played by Kim Go-Eun). In the present day, Eun-Tak is a high school student. She still sees ghosts and hears their whisper of “Dokkaebi’s bride.” On her birthday, Eun-Tak sits by the sea with a lighted birthday cake. At that time, Kim Shin suddenly appears in front of her. Kim Shin does not know why, but he can hear her voice and appears in front of her against his will. Coincidentally, Kim Shin lives with the Grim Reaper at the same house. Eun-Tak and Kim Shin slowly get to know each other, and Eun-Tak soon figures out that he is the Goblin and she is his bride”(Asianwiki).
Rating: 10/10
This is another show that you NEED to watch if you’re getting into Kdramas. The concept of the show was very unique, and the entire cast consists of talented actors who pulled off their characters incredibly well. The romance between the two leads is great, the romance between the second leads is great, literally everything about this show is wonderful- there’s even some straight up bromance between the Grim reaper and the Goblin. I loved how they tied everything back to past lives and the consequences of each person’s actions. The ending is incredibly sad and I most definitely cried several times throughout the show.
Abyss (2019)
16 episodes
Tumblr media
“Go Se-yeon is a beautiful prosecution lawyer at the top of her game, and Cha Min is her friend, an unattractive but rich heir to a cosmetics empire. They are both revived into different bodies by supernatural beings using an "Abyss" after their deaths in separate incidents. The "Abyss" is a celestial object which has the power to revive anything that has died; the reincarnated bodies take on the appearance of that person's soul. Go Se-yeon takes on a plainer appearance, whilst Cha Min becomes very attractive and young; virtually the opposite of before. They start working together to find out the reason for their revival and who caused Go Se-yeon's death” (Wikipedia).
Rating: 6/10
This show took me a really long time to finish watching. Like several months long. The plot seemed to fast paced at times and too slow at others, and it was overall fairly predictable. The concept was great but the portrayal was meh. Both leads were wonderful and did a great job of playing their characters, but the show was lacking in characters development and the development of romance between them. Honestly I don’t even remember how the show ended. I also didn’t really like Cha Mum’s girlfriend that much, her story didn’t intrigue me and she never really seemed to have any development, but maybe that’s just me.
I hope you enjoyed this! I really love kdramas but I didn’t really have anyone to talk to about them, so this is the next best thing. Most of these shows are frequently recommended, but I thought I’d just put out my own thoughts for the world to see. Peace out homies!

Hey! K-drama fans! :) Help me cast my drama?
UPDATED!
Heroine: Professor Kim Ye-jin
Tumblr media
29 years old and a university scientist. Highly driven and ambitious, won’t let anything stand in her way. Happy with things that are logical and rational despite the fact that she often reacts in a very volatile way, scared of deep emotions and being hurt. Cute (obviously) but not interested in dating. Prefers to dress sharply and plainly in monochrome colours - lab coat chic. Wears glasses at work.
Kim Tae-rin
Hero: Song Cheol-min
32 years old, oldest son from a Chaebol family, and heir to Song Industries. Handsome and expensively dressed. A hard worker when it comes to business who does his best to please his family because he knows he is a source of disappointment to them. Still in love with his university sweetheart who turned out to be his brother’s soulmate and consequently nurses a hope that soulmates are fake. Lives a sociable public life that is very different to how he really feels.
Several suggestions but keep them coming!
Second lead: Park Na-ra
29 years old, not-for-profit lawyer, best friend since university of Ye-jin. Na-ra has been in love with Ye-jin for as long as he can remember even though he knows they are not soulmates. He fully supports her work to discredit the soulmate system and has at least partially built his legal career around it. Has an easy going personality that contrasts well with Ye-jin. A good looking but rather feminine young man, Na-ra is in fact trans - only one of his several secrets.
Any trans Korean actors out there??
Second lead: Ryang Mi-sun
Tumblr media
31 years old, married to Cheol-soo. Mi-sun met and dated Cheol-min at university before meeting his brother and discovering they were soulmates. She has subsequently married Cheol-soo. A coolly fashionable and beautiful young woman who makes a perfect Chaebol wife, she outwardly supports her husband, concealing her ambiguity over her true feelings for both brothers. When things are going her way, Mi-sun is a sweet and funny girl, but she is insecure and easily assumes the worst.
Seo Ji-hye
Antagonist: Song Cheol-soo
30 years old, younger brother of Cheol-min and husband of Mi-sun. Cheol-soo has always felt resentful that he was born the younger brother and consequently won’t inherit the company. These feelings of resentment against Cheol-min have only grown since his marriage as he never feels completely convinced his wife truly loves him. In personality, a bit of a stuffed shirt who thinks that his serious “married man” approach to life will make him look better than his brother.
Casting depends on who plays his brother...
Antagonist: Choi Tae-wook
Tumblr media
35 years old, investigator and lawyer for Song Industries. Tae-wook is loyal to the Song family - whichever of them pays him the most. Has a sarcastic sense of humour and appears more cynical than he really is. He hopes that by working closely with Song Industries he can find his soulmate whom he bonded with as a child and never saw again, even though there are aspects of his memory that don’t make any sense to him now...
Kim Young-kwang
Secondary character: Bok Dan-bi
Tumblr media
26 years old, Cheol-min’s secretary. Dan-bi is a very competent secretary and has lasted longer than most because she has absolutely failed to enter into a flirtation with or appear to want to date her boss... Never talks about her private life. Dresses colourfully and has a sarcastic wit that means she gets on well with Cheol-min and Tae-wook, even if she is often So Over all the drama.
Yoon Bomi
Secondary character: Lee Chun-hwa
Tumblr media
27 years old, Ye-jin’s lab partner and closest female friend. Very cute and often lamenting her failure to find her soulmate or even have successful dates. Despite her scientific research, enjoys watching Soulmate Dramas and is a hopeless romantic. Openly gay at work but is putting off telling her conservative parents until she absolutely has to.
Park Bo-young
Secondary character: Shin Hyun-jung
24 years old, a Chaebol heiress. Hyun-jung has just returned from studying Business in the US and is introduced to Cheol-min as a potential soulmate, but no luck. An intelligent and elegant young woman, a match between her and Cheol-min (and between their families) would be just perfect, if only soulmates weren’t a thing.
So there we go! Please reblog and spam this post with pretty actors! :)
Keep the suggestions for the rest coming in!!!
