@belovedweighed asked “ can you move? “//alessa
it had been a long time since alessa had heard another voice so clearly, let alone one that had sounded so human, gentle. it cut through the fog of her world like a ray of light, a door cracking open to let the world outside of her own mind in. she hadn't known anything but the nothingness since then, the peace that had settled in when she'd finally been allowed to die.
she didn't know if she wanted to follow the voice. historically speaking, alessa had never known people to be particularly kind. whether she was a freak or a messiah, no one had really cared about her, the her in the center of it all. maybe she wanted to go back to sleep, to wrap the darkness back around herself like a blanket, a shield from the monsters, where nothing could reach her again, not even kind voices, tinged with the type of concern that alessa couldn't quite wrap her head around. who cared?
that was the thing about waking up from a deep sleep, she had never been able to pull it back once she'd lost it. she suddenly felt crushingly aware of her body, the sickeningly familiar weight of a mattress beneath herself, the real blanket that she had cocooned herself in somewhere along the way. she jolted upright, pulling the thin blanket to her chest as her head whipped from side to side, and it took her a second to realize that she didn't need to panic. she wasn't in the hospital like she'd first thought, but her old room, one of the few safe spaces she'd ever known. she wasn't hooked up to machines, her skin was pale and smooth, there was no antiseptic smell burning in her nose. she was free in her own body for the first time in maybe years.
still, there was a slight reason for her to worry, more specifically the stranger stood at the edge of her bed. she was pretty in a way that almost felt scandalous, and alessa couldn't tell if she was excited or frightened to meet a woman like this. it was exciting, to see someone wearing something so bright, even revealing, but she didn't know what to make of an outsider. she most definitely wasn't a part of the order, which was a massive relief in itself, but that didn't mean she was going to be nice. alessa guessed just about anything was better than the former inhabitants of the town though.
"who are you?" she had a million more questions than that, though she was sure the woman would only have the answer to a handful of them, if that. "is there anyone else here? why are you here?"
