The Jewish community in Edmonton observes Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) at the Alberta Legislature on April 28, 2022. Speakers included Senator Paula Simons, Mayor Amarjeet Sohi, MLA Whitney Issik, Leader of the Opposition Rachel Notley, and community members and clergy who led prayers and reflections. Holocaust survivors and family members lit candles, and the children of the Talmud Torah school sang a few songs. I'm working with the Jasper Place Community History Project doing research and writing about the area. This includes writing articles on behalf of the organization for SPANN, the community newspaper serving Stony Plain Road and surrounding neighbourhoods. My first article is about JAHSENA, the local Jewish archives that relocated to the Jasper Place area a decade ago.
