My ramblins and the art progress below the cut

My fist thought was that I wanted the two to be happy and showing off the gameplay which I love the most. I had planned for this to be in Havens Industrial district with the battle going on below and signs glowing all over the place.

Cleaning up the sketch I didn't really like the flow and how it was sitting on the page so I turned it all.

This was when I decided to change the location to Spargus and went ingame to find a good orb to catch.

I did catch a few things that needed changing because of the way I changed Jak's angle.

If you're still stuck on /that bit/ on Jak 2, I distinctly remember if you Dark Jak Dark Bomb into the water to get rid of the instakill security sentinel, you can jetboard across the water all the way to the end (or at least mostly to the end)

Another Jak II mission (that people have also been bitching about for 22 years) where I want to know "what the fuck was Nau.ghty D.og's damage when they created it": get the seal piece from the docks.

The whole thing already feels like a setup. You have to go to the very back of the water slums/docks area, to get a seal piece from Brutter's hut. The docks, of course, are rickety and uneven and branch off into random dead-ends and there's no easy way to get out of the very back corner of the area on foot. The second you grab the piece, the area starts swarming with KG transports dropping guards to get your ass, and you have to fight your way through in order to escape.

You are tucked into the very back corner of the area, there is one way out (so you can't just pick a direction and bolt; the water slums area kinda funnels its way back towards the city), and you must escape on foot. There are no zoomers to grab to fly out and zip past the transports, and if you drop into the water for even a millisecond, a sentry bot comes up and insta-kills you. So you can't just hide from the guards and casually swim your way to the escape point. Oh also, if you touch the water for a fraction of a second and manage to jump out and back onto the docks, the sentry bot will still fucking kill you.

The docks themselves are a fucking maze. You're trying to follow the flashing green dot on the map to get to your "completion" checkpoint, except everything in the water slums area looks exactly the fucking same, and you know how I said the docks branch off in random directions and dead-ends? Yeah, a goddamn nightmare to navigate when you're being ambushed on all sides and just trying to find your way out. Very easy to turn yourself in circles while trying to find the right path. That transport that spawned and those Krimzon Guards you killed a minute ago? Yeah so you're still within the trigger that makes that transport spawn, so even though you already beat those guys, you activated the trigger again and now that transport and all the guards have respawned. Plus whichever ones you've already activated. The guards drop ammo for the guns you use, but you get no health drops AT ALL for the entire mission, so if you get hit (and you will) you have no way of getting your health back.

You can't make a mad dash through the docks to try and avoid the guards all together, because then you'll activate ALL the transport triggers along the way and have the entire goddamn KG chasing you. Plus the ships themselves can shoot you if you get too close. Plus the guards start shooting at you from a distance and eventually hit you after a couple missed shots. You can't wait it out, you can't hide somewhere until they go away, you can't stay in one spot and let them come to you. Like, they've really covered all the loopholes to make sure your ass stays on the docks and you have to fight your way out.

And I know gaming chads and speedrunners are like "UMM, ACTUALLY, this mission really isn't THAT HARD, you're just doing it WRONG. It's actually REALLY EASY once you know what to do" or "you know you can just skip the mission entirely by jetboarding along the docks/hover-glitching into the air and out of the area, right? That makes it soooo much easier" yeah I'm sure the mission IS a cakewalk for people who have played the game a million times and know the controls inside and out and could play the game flawlessly in their sleep. The average person does not have this advantage. *I* do not have that advantage. I can barely hover as it is (and not consistently), and I have tried speeding my way through the docks on the jetboard to try and bypass the guards. Either I end up slipping off the edge and falling in the water and dying anyway, or I keep hitting civilians (which immediately kills your momentum and bumps you back) or running into guards (which kills your momentum, bumps you back, deals damage, AND stun-locks you briefly), and if I run into a guard I'm as good as dead at that point. Because usually they've got about 8 others with them, so they can immediately swarm you while stun-locked and kill you. Infuriating.

Again, what was ND's damage when making this mission? Like they really went out of their way to make it as hard as possible by covering all their bases and loopholes and making it nearly impossible to clear the mission in a way other than intended (yes, you can do speedrun strats, but I do not have that going for me). And obviously it IS possible to beat vanilla/as intended (I've done it twice), it just sucks and is super infuriating. I don't understand.

I sat in my room, patiently waiting for night to fall, sitting on my bed and going over my thoughts again and again, contemplating if this was really what I had to do. But like all my attempts at thinking this through, it all went back to that one solution. Leaving.

My parents, like some others in Haven City, put on a mask feuled by fear and confusion. A mask that allows them to pretend that Baron Praxis really has the answers, all while hiding any expression that shows the thoughts and worries they truly have.

It's what you have to do around here. You either play along with Praxis, work directly for him, or hide in the shadows and pray that you manage to blend in with the crowded streets. The problem is that the latter was becoming increasingly difficult. Minding your own business and hoping Praxis' army, the Krimzon guard, didn't find some reason to arrest you or God forbid, kill you, was a gamble. Even the average citizen who was just trying to live their day to day life in this hellscape could never truly rest easy.

But that was why I had to leave. I've been working with the Underground movement for a few weeks now. They're a small group that's set on getting Praxis off of the throne. Sure, he's got walls up protecting us from the metalheads, but at this point, Praxis' iron fist that he rules with is becoming just as intimidating. So, as you could guess, being in a group that's actively opposing him in secret puts me in more danger than the average citizen.

But even more so, it puts my family in danger... not to mention that I haven't even been able to tell them what I'm doing. I tried to. But every time, the thoughts of the backlash, their immense worries, or even the risk that maybe them knowing could get them into trouble? It just didn't seem to be worth it. So I would leave. In the cover of night after they'd gone to bed.

I had everything I'd need. My jetboard, my cloak, and some various personal things from my room. I didn't worry too much about alerting my mom or dad, it was common for me to roam the house after they went to sleep, and on top of that, there was typically a lot of noise in the streets.

I locked the door behind me, wondering how long it would it be before I could go back, or if I even would. But I had to forget about those feelings and hope that someday, after the house of Mar was restored to the throne and Haven City was truly liberated, that they could forgive me for putting myself in danger.

I'm sure the length will vary depending on what part I'm writing or just how many ideas I can convey, but I'm gonna try to keep these posts smaller so more can find them enjoyable to read.

   Apparently witches used to ride around on broom sticks to get around back in the day... Well, back in Master Mithra’s days, at least; Which is who knows how many ages ago? The sporty young woman was hardly one for tradition, not to mention, she didn’t think she would look particularly flattering trying to balance her behind on a flimsy little swiffer. No, she was much more of a longboard or jetboard kinda lady, as she soared high above the sky after being sent off on one of her mission trips. 

   Surprisingly, this time, she was going to visit somewhere near the city. Usually her little journeys sent her off to places more remote, but she had no issue making it a quick one. Lana always was more of a city girl, anyway. 

   Once she’d gotten close enough, she brought herself a few stories low and leapt off her board into a free fall. Her board seemed to blink out of existence, as she ran her fingertips down the 4th and 3rd story of the building to her left. There was a smile plain on her face as the rush brought forth more than adrenaline. Her hair began to glow an electric lilac sheen, her magic manifesting her paid of roller skates, which she used to slide down the 2nd and first floor walls, before kicking off onto the sidewalk.

   It was a familiar feeling and her instincts kicked in to drop low to get as much speed down the empty pavement as possible, before fear overtook her as the scene changed. Someone seemed to have turned the corner unexpectedly, and not even a spiral stop would be possible as she barely had time to even get back up from her squat. She would need to halt as much of it as she could with one foot turned to break, and then leap an arc above the stranger who was likely in for the spook of a lifetime. 

   Upon sticking her landing, the witch immediately rolled up to the individual, ready for apologetics in as cheery a way as she could manage, as even if she did stress herself out with the whole ordeal, it was still kinda fun. 

“H-hey! You doing alright? Sorry about that, you just showed up out of nowhere! That’s my bad,” Lana acknowledged, partially wiping sweat from her forehead and partially blocking the sun from her eyes.
