RSiAF s/n 517 [Hawker Hunter FR.74A] seen on static display at Classic Flyers a few years before export.
MSN 41H-688080 was new to the RAF as a Hunter F.6. It was given the s/n XJ689 in 1957.
It was converted into a Hunter FGA.9 in 1964 and converted to a Hunter FR.74A in 1971. At this point, it was struck off charge and taken on charge with the Republic of Singapore Air Force.
In 1992 it was struck off charge once again and exported to Aotearoa alongside s/n 516 [Hunter T.75] and restored to airworthy condition.
It was given the c/r ZK-JIL by April 2000, and at one point, it unintentionally struck the runway at Ardmore but did not crash.
It moved to Tauranga but due to insurance issues related to the ejection seat JIL was permanently grounded.
In 202x, it and the T.75 were sold to American interests, where they will be restored to flight and usedas aggressors. As of January 2024 one airframe remains at Tauranga awaiting export.
