Invisible Limits
Aiden struggles with chronic fatigue, leading to being cooped up in his room the majority of the time.
In a small, nondescript town where the sidewalks whispered secrets to the willow trees, Aiden Clark, a young boy of twelve, lived a life of quiet solitude. His eyes, a mirror to the world's weariness, spoke volumes about his unseen battles. Chronic fatigue was his invisible shield, a silent sentinel that guarded him from the energetic chaos beyond his bedroom door.
Aiden's room was his sanctuary, a fortress of solace from the relentless demands of the outside. The walls were plastered with posters of galaxies and superheroes, their vivid colors stark against the stark white paint. Aiden often lay on his bed, staring up at them, lost in thought. His desk, cluttered with half-read comic books and untouched homework, was a monument to the time that slipped through his fingers like grains of sand.
"Aiden," his mother's voice called softly from the hallway, "time for dinner."
He sighed, the weight of his eyelids a constant reminder of his condition. "Coming, Mom," he murmured, his voice a gentle ripple in the sea of silence that filled the house.
Slowly, Aiden pushed himself up and shuffled over to the door. Each step was a deliberate act of will, as if he were wading through a river of molasses. The mere act of existing was a marathon, and he hadn't even left his room yet.
In the kitchen, the smell of chicken and potatoes filled the air, a comforting embrace that didn't quite reach his soul. His mother, a woman whose smile was the brightest light in the dreary world of their lives, placed a steaming plate in front of him.
"Thanks, Mom," he said, his voice a mere echo of its usual vibrancy.
She ruffled his hair, her eyes filled with a blend of concern and love. "You need to eat, sweetie. You're getting too thin."
Aiden managed a nod, his spoon hovering over the food. He knew she was right, but the effort of lifting the spoon felt like a Herculean task. He took a bite, chewing mechanically, the flavors barely registering.
The TV in the living room hummed with the latest sitcom laughter, a distant sound that didn't quite reach him. His father, a man of few words, sat in his armchair, eyes glued to the screen, a silent sentinel to his son's struggle.
After dinner, Aiden retreated back to his room, the sanctum of his solitude. He picked up his favorite comic book, the one with the hero who never gave up, despite the odds. As he turned the pages, the vibrant illustrations danced before his eyes, briefly coloring his world with the excitement he craved.
But the dance was short-lived. His eyelids grew heavy once more, and the book slipped from his grasp. He curled up under the covers, his body a prison to the boundless energy he longed for. The house grew quieter as the night deepened, the only sound the rhythmic tick of the clock, a metronome to his weary heartbeat.
In the stillness of the night, Aiden felt the weight of his condition more acutely than ever. The stars outside his window called to him, a silent testament to the adventures he yearned for but could never have.
The world continued to spin, uncaring of the battles fought in the confines of his four walls. And as sleep claimed him once more, Aiden dreamed of a life beyond the shackles of fatigue, where he could be the hero of his own story.

!!!SBG CHP 78 SPOILERS!!!
Don’t have much to say but here are my favourite panels
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The expressions in this chapter are everything lol. The way Jessica is looking at Ash while she’s ‘not my problem he’s an idiot’ is hilarious and Mike’s perpetual state of confusion killed me.
Taylor and Aiden really had murder on their mind in that moment too lol.
Of course there is also the second family group hug of the series.

SBG EP 80 SLIGHT FASTPASS SPOILERS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i find these two pieces of dialogue from her very.. interesting. i feel like she’s putting up a front about caring for aiden if that makes sense? like she only does it to look good in front of the other parents or to convince herself she’s a good parent. sure she probably cares about him to some extent but she’s not putting much effort to it? if there was a choice where she had to choose to save herself or aiden she seems like the type to choose herself if push came to shove.
i haven’t been this stressed since our publisher accidentally printed an extra ten thousand copies” seems an awful lot like some sort of guilt trip to twist around their situation and make it about her. how exactly are YOU saying you’re stressed out when the kids literally witnessed someone fall out of the car and nearly get KILLED? it just seems kinda narcissistic in my opinion. instead of trying to comfort anyone or be supportive in any way EMOTIONALLY, you’re too focused on yourself.
which brings us back to the first photo where she reprimands tyler for kicking aiden out of the chair cause he’s quote on quote “obviously injured”. funny how she only starts saying something and being defensive when she’s in the room with him and other people. did she try comforting him at the hospital? no. she may pay attention to aiden physically but she’s definitely not good at handling the emotional aspects at all.
overall she’s just a neglectful parent. most of this post is about the mom but the dad is also a problem too considering he hasn’t done anything significant in these past few chapters. him being silent is just as bad as jessica being conceited in my opinion. it’s always me me me with her. but maybe that’s just my own experience talking…

"I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong."
Jessica started therapy 4 months ago. She figured it were for the best, with how much she was working. Regular breakdowns, stress and work was really starting to get to her, and she concluded it would be counterproductive to continue to ignore her problems. Recently, however, she has come with a new issue.
See her son, Aiden, was growing increasingly distant. She supposed she should have seen it coming, with how often her and her husband were away on trips. Jessica had figured he would be fine, he had several things to do. She had made it out just fine with her parents being away, why wasn't he?
"He has plenty to do, friends to hang out with, every gaming console I could find---" She cut herself off with a sigh, bringing one hand up to cover her face. "I know I work a lot, but theres nothing I feel like I can do. I don't understand why he's so distant. Theres extracurriculars, sports, everything of the like."
She stopped again when she caught on to the fact that she had been talking without pause. It was always good to take a break every once and awhile, as she had learned the hard way. Jessica loved her son, he was so talented and smart. And yet he never seemed to be happy.
The woman before her nodded slowly to her words. "What extracurriculars does he do?" She asked, avoiding Jessica's gaze in favor of writing notes on her clipboard.
A mental list almost wrote itself in Jessica's mind. "He plays soccer, he takes violin and piano lessons. Oh! And recently he's started archery," She began, mentally counting off whatever she could. "Honors classes, chess club, the schools student council---"
"And how old is he?" "Aiden is 13."
"Doesn't that sound like a lot for a boy that age? When did he tell you he wanted to do all of this?"
Jessica took a moment to mull on that. Actually, when did he? Lots of them were originally her idea, he simply agreed to them. That was all she really took. A simple nod, a small agreeing hum. She took that and ran with it.
Her mind started to race before she could catch it. It was all for him, wasn't it? She wanted him to be successful, just like she was. She achieved it with hard work, and by taking advantage of every opportunity she got. That was all she wanted. She just wanted her boy to have a life full of potential she knows he has.
She shut her eyes.
"Am i overworking him?"
---
Jessica cried on the way home from that appointment. She cried often, but not like this. She always cried from stress, from how much she had to get done, it was all so much that she just broke down. But she got it done anyway, didn't she? This time she wasn't sure. She was the cause of her child's problems, and oh how she felt terrible. She needed to fix this.
As she drove home, a memory came to her.
She was young, perhaps a little older than her son is now. She came back to an empty home, only getting a note from her parents that they would be back at an unknown time. Her room was a mess. Thinking now, Jessica didn't know why she didn't think to clean it. Only, at the time she had just come home from a club meeting, and immediately had to get ready for her softball game.
She remembered how exhausted she felt. All the time. About absolutely everything.
And yet, she had done the exact same thing to her son.
Jessica was failing him.
---
It was nighttime. She didn't know if he was still awake. She stood outside his door. She had been for five minutes. Would he even want to see her at this point? She had barely seem him today.
One knock. Then another.
Aiden was sitting on his bed when she came in. She didn't know what he was doing. It didn't look like much. Slowly, she sat down beside him.
"How was soccer practice?" "It was fine."
He didn't sound enthusiastic at all.
Jessica took a moment to observe the boys room. It was a wreck. It ripped her heart in two.
"When is your next trip?" "We leave next Friday." She mumbled. He only nodded, looking away. Jessica took a heavy breath. She needed to fix this.
"Why don't you come with us this time?" She spoke slowly, as if addressing a frightened animal she was trying to keep from running away.
Silence filled the room.
"I can't. I have practice. And lessons. I might have club meetings too."
Jessica found herself grabbing the boys hand. It was that time he finally glanced at her. He looked exhausted.
"Forget all of that. You work so hard, you deserve a break."
He was confused. Of course he was. Jessica had always been a 'work til you drop' kind of person. And it was catching up to her now.
"I mean---"
Aiden paused.
"I don't know."
Jessica leaned down and gave him a kiss on the head. It was something she mainly did when he was little. "Think about it, okay? We would love to have you with us."
Of course, there would be the plane tickets. And the hotel rooms. And adding a level of actual tourist activities, instead of just visiting the area. Maybe they could stay for a bit longer this time, and actually enjoy their travels.
When Aiden didn't reply, Jessica stood.
Before she could leave the room, she paused in the doorway.
"Sweetie," She ended up glancing back at him. "Do you enjoy soccer? Honestly?"
Aiden stared at her.
After some heavy silence, he shook his head no.
"What about lessons?" More silent shakes of the head.
Aiden wasn't happy. And it was Jessica's fault. She was working him to the bone, and didn't even have the time to notice. She wanted to cry again.
"You don't have to go anymore, then."
That actually got something out of her son. Perhaps he perked up, or was just straightening his bad posture. Was she reading too far into this?
"Really?" "If you really don't enjoy it, you don't have to go."
Jessica's mind was screaming at her to stop. A mantra of her boy's future crumbling flooded her thoughts. If he doesn't live up to his full potential, he isn't going to have good opportunities in life. What will people say when he suddenly drops everything?
Her grip on his door handle tightened. Aiden was more important. She forced herself to stop thinking like that. Her son and his happiness was more important than anything.
She glanced at Aiden again. He seemed to relax. Like a weight slid off his shoulders in one fell swoop. And, ever so slightly, so did she.
---
Aiden wanted the window seat. Of course, Jessica got the good seats for them, so they were by no means squished. She still sat near him though, watching him as he switched from staring out the window in wonder, to playing some sort of game on his console.
She wanted to connect with him. How could she? Jessica felt lost. Was she doing the right thing for him? How could she even find an entry point to start a conversation? Her eyes drifted back into the game in his hands.
"What are you playing?"
He blinked at her, startled she even asked. "Uh, its called pokémon."
She tilted his head at him, waiting for him to elaborate. After a moment, he switched seats, coming to sit beside her. He showed her the screen, decorated in colorful pixels displaying what appeared to be two odd animal-but-not-quite-animals in what appeared to be a battle. Aiden started to ramble, telling her about types, and moves, and 'gyms'. Frankly, Jessica understood absolutely none of it.
And yet, she listened anyway. Aiden was smiling now, happily explaining every detail he could, showing her how the game worked and everything. To be honest, she had never considered videogames to be something that required strategy. Perhaps she was wrong.
Really, Jessica was wrong about a lot. But she was willing to learn.

Daniel watched as his son peacefully slept covered in layers of blankets. He didn't know what happened in the other world that the children get trapped in, but all he knows is that his son was in pain there. Son. He knew that Aiden was his son he watched him grow up (did he really?) But he didn't know anything about him. Somebody of his blood, but in the end they were nothing but strangers to eachother. Deep down he knows that he should know more about his son. He knows that he should be a father.
Is it too late to be a father? Is it too late to make it up to Aiden? To show that he isn't in this alone? Maybe he still had a chance, he was only 16. Aiden is still a child, maybe he could be a father.
But how? How could he get closer to Aiden? He was always too busy with work to find out anything about him, so what does he and Aiden have in common?
Maybe it was too late to be a father, but he could still try.

am I the only one who thinks Aiden’s parents were nicer than people think?
Disclaimer: this probably makes no sense because I made this sleep-deprived but still wanted to post it
I’ve seen and read a lot of fics, posts, etc. about Aiden’s parents being neglectful, rude, or forcing etiquette onto Aiden but there’s no way I’m the only one who thinks otherwise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In (S2) Ep. 61, we see a glimpse of Aiden’s ‘childhood’ of him as a child curled up on the bed in a messy room. This scene just made me think overall that Daniel and Jessica can try their best as parents but overall, they have horrible parenting skills.
In the same episode, we see how much they care for Aiden. Daniel and Jessica begin to panic when Aiden starts seizing and you can see it plain on their faces.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They’re both reaching out to him and maybe it’s because they’re his son so their brain automatically creates this worry but they wouldn’t be like this if they didn’t care.
Tumblr media
But in the next episode, we can see that Daniel is sitting on the couch while watching over Aiden who is sleeping. He’s clearly worried for his son and no one can make me think otherwise, that one panel is everything to me.
Even at the hospital, once Taylor starts shouting at them and they see the phantoms out the window, Jessica wants to leave with Aiden. Might be a small detail but I’m gonna use it for my argument (I don’t know if that’s the right word).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When we see younger Aiden who seems expressionless in the family photo, I think it would be safe to assume he was forced into that position, right? In my opinion, it could’ve just been him wanting to make his parents proud rather than being forced, or I think this case would be half-forced.
Tumblr media
In episode 78, Daniel and Jessica’s first concern is the state of their son who is passed out and is aware that he died in the phantom dimension (which they are in), they would be pretty worried. They rather hear an explanation for Aiden’s state than how or why they are also stuck in the dimension.
Looking further into Daniel and Jessica’s parenting skills or issues, they probably haven’t seen the issue or fault in their parenting. They allowed Aiden freedom by giving him allowance, letting him dye his hair at a young age (guessing around grade 7 or 8), and letting him get red eye contacts.
But at the same time, they’re barely there. I think parents assume kids are fine or overreacting when seeing them in a state of deep sadness and they must’ve gone through the same thinking process.
In the end, I think Jessica and Daniel love Aiden very much. No one can change my mind.
No one can tell me they abuse him, insult him—he literally has the same eyes as his father— or I don’t know what anyone else has said.
Daniel and Jessica love Aiden they just need to up their parenting skills or needed to.

IM CRYING BUT ITS SO TRUE 😭
Aiden yelped as he got pushed out of the wheelchair by Tyler, getting a scoff from his father, his smile twitched. “Hey, Tyler-” “What are you doing, Aiden, will you just sit there as this brat takes his victory or something?” Jessica cut Taylor off, rolling her eyes.
“Just-look at him! He can’t even walk without a wheelchair! I don’t get why-” “Jessica.” Emma glared at Jessica, the Clark only scoffing. “But I’m right am I? This brat needs to shoot to survive because he has limited movement, and look at Aiden-!” “Shut up, woman.” Aiden snapped.
The group(excluding Lily) snapped their heads at him, surprised. Jessica’s eye twitched. “What did you just say, child?” “I said,” Aiden got off the ground, a few murmurs of worries coming from his friends, “Shut, the fuck up, woman.”
Jessica laughed. “I am your mother-” “You are no one but a disgrace of the Clark’s.”
Taylor stood up from where she was sitting, worry etched on her face. “Aiden-” “You are no one, but a stranger to me,” Aiden continued, smile gone, “You have been gone, away, nowhere, from my childhood.” He barked out a laugh. “I tried my best to satisfy you abomination of my kind, straight A’s, Valedictorian, I did anything, everything, and yet, I’ve never felt love from my own parents, my own bloodline.” Aiden glared at Ben, “... Except for Ben and his side.”
“I dropped my title, I dropped my smile, my health, and yet you two have never even noticed it.” He scoffed. “You didn’t even care when you came home seeing your son have blonde hair and eyes that looked nothing like yours."
Ben covered Lily’s ears as Aiden continued to rant. The Hernandez side were on the verge of jumping at Aiden for a hug, and the Banner’s stayed silent.
“Do you even care?” Aiden asked, his voice cracking. Jessica was about to open her mouth when Aiden gave her no chance.
“Have you even noticed how your son was always covered in bandages? Have you even noticed how your son’s attitude completely shifted when Ben came in my life?” He snickered. “Never. Never before, you have never, never-” “-EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED YOUR OWN SON!”

In your SBG actor Au, are Ashlyn's parents in the show her real parents or are they also two actors?
What about the other adults? Do the kids get along with them? (Except for the actress who plays Jessica Clark, who Ben apparently doesn't like)
By the way, have you had any water, slept, eaten? Have you taken good care of yourself?
Flower for you 🌹

Ben owed everything to his cousin.
Of course he also owed his aunt and uncle. But they didn't help, atleast not the way that Aiden did. His auntie and uncle paid for his therapy and allowed him to stay with them. That's all they did, nothing more, nothing less. Don't get him wrong though, he is more than grateful that they did that for him. It just didn't help him.
But then Aiden came in.
He saw that Ben wasn't enjoying the therapy sessions and one of the few times that his parents were home (why are they always away so much?) He managed to convince them to let Ben stop going to them. Then Aiden started to suggest things that would help him get a new passion (they both knew it wouldn't be the same as singing, but they had to try) Aiden introduced him to drawing, writing stories, poetry. It was amazing to find different ways to express himself without his voice. Aiden was there whenever he had a nightmare, Aiden was there to watch whatever Ben wanted. Aiden was there.
Aiden saved him. And for that Ben would always hold him high, he loved and cared for Aiden. He would give anything to make sure his cousin was happy. Ben would forever be there for Aiden, just how Aiden was there for him.
Ben tried to ignore it, but he always knew that Aiden was jealous of him. He tried to ignore it, Aiden tried to hide it so why bring it up? Ben didn't know the reason why when he was younger, but after moving in with Aiden. He now understands. Aiden's parents were never there for him. They always focused on themselves or their business. And after Ben moved in himself as well. They cared more about him then their own son. That thought made Ben's blood boil. As much as he tries to control his anger this is something that he won't hold back on.
How fucking dare they. Aiden was amazing yet they continue to put everyone but him first?! Aiden was smart, creative, cheerful. He brightens up the room whenever he enters it. He can always make people laugh. His art is beautiful and just so hypnotising. But they continue to ignore him and say that he's not good enough. How can someone be so stupid?!
It hurts Ben deeply that Aiden tried to hide his pain and ignore his jealously. Ben understood why, just like how Aiden understood his pain. He just wished that he could relieve some of his pain. But Aiden wouldn't let him do that.
That didn't matter if Aiden didn't want help because Ben will try and try and try again if it means Aiden gets the love and attention he deserves
