Remember the amazing saxophonist at the BAFTAS last night?

She wrote this brilliant letter to the Guardian today about music education, which I thought I would share with you. Music is integral to society and people’s wellbeing and should not be being cut in schools. I would not be the person I was without the amazing musical education I recieved, and am extremely upset about it being undervalued as an option for children today.

MILOŠ anuncia el lanzamiento de su primer álbum con Sony Classical, titulado sencillamente Baroque, que saldrá a la venta el 13 de octubre. Ya disponible el primer adelanto Adagio, del popular "Concierto para oboe en re menor" de Alessandro Marcello.

MILOŠ, el músico estrella que ha liderado el renacimiento actual de la guitarra clásica, inicia una nueva era en su excepcional carrera con su primer álbum para Sony Classical. Titulado simplemente "Baroque", el álbum presenta la cuidada selección de MILOŠ de obras barrocas especialmente transcritas y adaptadas a la guitarra, tanto en solitario como en colaboración con Jonathan Cohen y su conjunto 'Arcangelo'. El álbum saldrá a la venta el 13 de octubre y está llamado a enriquecer el inigualable legado de grabaciones de guitarristas legendarios de Sony Classical, que cuenta con John Williams y Julian Bream, entre otros.

El primer tema, Adagio, del popular "Concierto para oboe en re menor" de Alessandro Marcello, se publica hoy.

Desde su espectacular irrupción en 2011, cuando su álbum debut ocupó el no. 1 en las listas de música clásica del Reino Unido durante la friolera de 28 semanas, MILOŠ se ha labrado una impresionante carrera internacional ofreciendo recitales y conciertos en solitario en la mayoría de las principales salas de conciertos del mundo. Sus seis álbumes de estudio han vendido el equivalente a más de medio millón de copias y conquistado las listas de álbumes clásicos en múltiples territorios, lo que le ha valido un BRIT Clásico, un Echo Klassik y dos Premios Gramófono. Sin olvidar la ovación de la crítica mundial, la BBC Music Magazine lo incluyó entre "los seis mejores guitarristas clásicos del siglo pasado" y The New York Times lo citó como "uno de los guitarristas clásicos más interesantes y comunicativos de la actualidad".

Su gran variedad de influencias musicales y repertorio, desde el barroco hasta la música contemporánea, pasando por los Beatles y otros estilos, ha ayudado a MILOŠ a forjarse una fiel base de seguidores internacionales y a presentar su instrumento a toda una nueva generación de oyentes.  Su larga lista de colaboradores musicales incluye desde Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Lisa Batiashvili, Alison Balsom y Jess Gillam, hasta Tori Amos, Gregory Porter y Anoushka Shankar. Fue el primer guitarrista clásico de la historia que ofreció un espectáculo en solitario con todas las entradas agotadas en el Royal Albert Hall, donde volvió el verano pasado para tocar ante un público que llenaba el aforo. Ha actuado en la BBC y en Sky TV, y tiene su propia serie de libros educativos "Play Guitar with Miloš", publicados por Schott Music. Recientemente ha puesto en marcha la "Fundación Miloš Karadaglić", con sede en Porto Montenegro. Esta organización filantrópica pretende actuar como centro regional de influencia potenciando la excelencia artística mediante diversas oportunidades educativas, asociaciones y una estrecha tutoría.

"Baroque" anuncia un nuevo hito en la carrera de MILOŠ. "Desde el principio de mi carrera como músico, me he sentido profundamente inspirado por la increíble variedad y la electrizante energía del repertorio barroco. Esta época dorada de la música es misteriosa y extraordinaria, extravagante, a menudo infinitamente lírica, en definitiva, atemporal. Y sin embargo, en el contexto de la guitarra clásica, aparte de J.S. Bach, creo que solo hemos conseguido tocar la superficie. Este mismo pensamiento me inspiró para, a lo largo de los años, intentar profundizar, ir más allá de lo obvio, experimentar, colaborar y transcribir, para abrir una nueva puerta de posibilidades a mi instrumento y a su propia voz barroca".

La propia transcripción de MILOŠ de la monumental Chacona de Bach se sitúa en el centro de esta grabación, sirviendo de anclaje a la rica y variada constelación de obras maestras de compositores barrocos. MILOŠ deseaba especialmente presentar la guitarra a través de una amplia gama de influencias europeas, y no solo dentro del contexto español más familiar. Ha seleccionado aquí obras brillantes de nueve compositores, la mayoría de las cuales nunca antes se habían tocado con guitarra solista.

Hay muchas luces y sombras en la música, que reflejan el carácter único del claroscuro barroco. Obras como el Adagio del "Concierto para oboe en re menor" de Alessandro Marcello; la "Sonata en re menor" de Domenico Scarlatti; el Menuet de la "Suite en si bemol mayor" de George Frideric Handel; Las Artes y las Horas de Jean-Philippe Rameau o Les Barricades mystérieuses de François Couperin ofrecen momentos más introspectivos, mientras que los movimientos de Antonio Vivaldi de La Notte y L'estro Armonico, escritos originalmente como concierto para 4 violines, o incluso el Fandango de Boccherini del "Quinteto n.º 4 en re mayor" son fuegos artificiales de un virtuosismo estremecedor.

MILOŠ trabajó muy estrechamente con Jonathan Cohen en todas las transcripciones orquestales, así como con Michael Lewin, el eminente guitarrista y laudista británico con quien estudió en la Real Academia de Música de Londres y con quien ahora comparte una maravillosa colaboración creativa.

"Todo lo que he aprendido y experimentado en mi vida musical hasta ahora, todas las influencias y diversas tradiciones musicales, convergen en este álbum" dice MILOŠ. "Quería transmitir aquí una nueva visión del barroco, con toda la variedad de estilos y texturas, conservando al mismo tiempo la intimidad innata y la belleza típica del sonido de la guitarra".

Aunque para MILOŠ un círculo creativo se cierra con la publicación de este álbum, "Baroque" sirve en última instancia como cimiento de una nueva era en la ya extraordinaria carrera de este artista.

MILOŠ interpretará obras de "Baroque" en el Carnegie Hall de Nueva York en noviembre de este año, antes de embarcarse en una gira por el Reino Unido con Jonathan Cohen y Arcangelo en enero de 2024, seguida de una gira por Norteamérica en la primavera de 2024 con "Les Violons Du Roy".

"Baroque" saldrá a la venta a través de Sony Classical el 13 de octubre de 2023 en CD y formatos digitales.
