It all started a number of years ago when our cast and crew flew to Havana over what became the first of our recent hundred year storms. As the East Coast was bracing for a very big hit, we flew from New York via Toronto, LA via Mexico and directory from Paris to shoot the first American feature film in Cuba since 1959. After 19 days of crisscrossing the island without permits or permission, we negotiated customs one last time and boarded our flights back home. We continued to film our lead character, Gil Bigelow on the flight back to New York and then in the cab as he finally headed home. The cameras never stopped rolling. Then I slept for two days straight. Afterwards we regrouped; shot 8 more days in order to properly depict the wonderfully corporate town of Kennelworth, NJ, did months of editing, lots of color correcting, an insane amount of fundraising and a surprisingly delicate sound mix so that we can now finally announce that Art Jones’ newest feature film, ‘Forbidden Cuba’ will be released world wide on March 8th. Many thanks to everyone who came out to the Film Society of Summit last night to see 'Forbidden Cuba'. We had another sold out screening after which most everyone stayed for a Q & A session with the director Art Jones, myself, Professor Elvis Fuentes from Rutgers and activist Gloria Ron-Fornes. The questions and comments flew back and forth for an hour and then Art and I remained talking until we had to catch the 11:30 train back into Penn Station. The film is Art Jones's latest feature called 'Forbidden Cuba'. We flew into Havana as Hurricane Sandy was battering New York CIty and shot for 19 days straight without any permits or permission. We crisscrossed the island traveling from Havana to Vinales, Cienfuegos, Santiago, Trinidad de Zaza and Santa Clara. Using a small cast and crew and working with a number of locals we met in our travels, we shot a buddy film which I like to describe as being just like 'Heart Of Darkness' but done as a comedy. This film is a lot of fun and it looks like it cost much, much more than it actually did. Consider this your invitation to the Cuban holiday you've always wanted but haven't made the time to take. This film tells the story of Gil Bigelow, an American businessman sent to Cuba to find an executive gone rogue and to plant the seeds for future business expansion.
