Snowflakes and Sunsets
A Maplestory secret santa gift for @tareloin ! I hope you enjoy it!!
Adele returns to Ristonia for a day off.
---
Adele found herself walking the increasingly familiar streets of Ristonia again, cold wind making her shiver. She had been getting stronger as of late in order to fulfill her new role in life. She still felt weaker than she had before being locked up, but it was all slowly coming back to her.
She hadn’t been paying attention when she ran into someone just outside the city. She began to apologize before looking up and seeing a familiar face looking back at her. He was smiling brightly, as if he had been looking for Adele. Maybe he had.
The boy took Adele by the wrist and ran back to their treehouse hideout, which had more people walking around it than the last time she was there. He was excitedly talking about what they had to catch up on and what she had missed out on since she had been gone and asking her about her adventures. She smiled softly and replied with interest, summoning a single aether sword and moving it around them in the crowded space of the treehouse, illuminating the various books and maps scattered around.
Jerome, the boy who had pulled her out of the void some time ago, was in awe at her command of the ethereal weapon and clapped when it finally blinked out of existence. I’m so glad my knight has been getting stronger, he said looking into her eyes. I’m happy to be of use to you, my lord, she responded. Despite the formal titles they used, their relationship was very casual. After Adele had begun to regain her memories and opened up with Jerome a bit, they had spent countless nights talking and discussing her memories, his past, and their plans for the future.
It was those nights where she realized that there was nobody she’d rather serve than Jerome. He was kind and intelligent and while she worried he might get taken advantage of by people with bad intentions, he had a good head on his shoulders and always listened to her when she had a bad feeling about someone or something. He knew when to take risks and when to stay back, and despite all the trust she had in him, she still worried about their coup-in-planning while she was away. They were starting to finalize plans for Jerome to take back the throne and regain control of Ristonia and restore it to its former glory, a plan that would take many years once the ball was rolling, and Adele’s only job for now was to get stronger.
But for now, she was back to check in on her charge and take a short break from training to catch up with her friends. It felt
strange for her to use that word to describe anyone. She hadn’t been treated well by her “friends” in the past, especially after they betrayed her when she couldn’t keep going with their new Godking’s rule. Jerome and the others were warm to her, though, and she felt as if she could truly speak her mind and express her desires to them and they would listen.
Adele was brought back to the present by Jerome asking another question. Have you ever seen snow, he asked, looking behind her. Snow, the word was unfamiliar on her tongue. No, she replied and just as quickly, Jerome ushered her to stand up and go outside. There were small flakes of white falling gently from the sky, Brook and Laddie were catching some of them on their tongues. Adele held out a hand to catch some, but they melted as soon as they touched her skin. For some reason, she felt disappointed that she couldn’t get a good look at the little flakes before they disappeared. She also realized that she had seen snow before on her travels, though something about seeing it in her new home, the orange sky illuminating her friends as they took a much needed break by running around catching snowflakes made her feel warm inside despite the chilly breeze that continued to blow around them. She had nowhere else she’d rather be.

sooo, because I don't have the Unicorn Overlord art book, I've been searching around to see if anyone's posted scans, or copied over character bio stuff, and found this list of ages, which is...hm! interesting. Mildly unsettling. Josef definitely has the "stress makes you go grey and then white real fast" gene or something, bc like, he's one of the oldest-looking characters (aside from Mordan who is? younger than Josef? what?) and yet he's only 52, which isn't as old as I was expecting him to be based on his design. Anywho, I arranged the characters into groups by age from youngest to oldest below, for viewing ease, so you can contemplate the ages too!
15: Yunifi
16: Chloe, Ridiel
17: Alain, Scarlett, Lex
18: Liza, Celeste
19: Travis, Auch, Nina (Millé is Nina's twin if I recall, so we can assume she's 19 as well), Melisandre, Umerus
20: Kitra, Tatiana, Leah, Gilbert, Govil
21: Sharon, Fran, Virginia
22: Ochlys, Primm, Dinah
23: Selvie, Miriam, Berengaria
24: Hilda, Gammel, Amalia
25: Monica, Aramis, Mandrin, Sanatio
26: Berenice, Adel, Gloucester, Raenys
27: Clive, Aubin, Rolf, Magellan
28: Bruno
29: Nigel
32: Fodoquia
33: Jeremy
34: Ramona
35: Morard
38: Bryce, Ilenia
40: Renault
41: Hodrick
42: Rosalinde, Eltolinde
43: Jerome
45: Colm
46: Bertrand, Gailey
47: Mordon
48: Ithilion
52: Josef
63: Railanor
82: Lhinalagos
85: Galadmir
88: Yahna
154: Alcina
Some interesting things here, it seems? that elves age at about 2.5x that of humans (if you divide any of the elves' ages by 2.5, and round to the nearest whole number, the "adjusted" age seems to match most of the characters as compared to the human characters of the same age, i.e. Rosalinde and Eltolinde would be 16.8 or roughly 17 in human years old which matches with Alain's age group fairly well).
But bestrals, despite the lore implying that owl bestrals live a long time and their shared ancestry with elves, don't...really seem to have spectacular age differences from humans, so perhaps something about the bestral anatomy puts them on an aging scale closer to that of humans.
Angels, unsurprisingly, seem to age at the same rate as humans, which makes sense given that they're just. Humans with wings. That most of them were childhood friends with Scarlett is wild though, there's an 8 year age difference between Scarlett and Sanatio and yet she was outrunning him on that bridge like it was no one's business (and yet Raenys was only a year older and serving as Scarlett's lady-in-waiting, I have so many questions about Albion).
Also I'm losing it at the implications that Ilenia had Alain when she was 19, girl what? Like okay, yeah sure, fantasy vaguely medieval setting, people had kids young, but 19? still seems so young...
Alcina though? Like, she looked that young in the prologue, before she teams up w/ local necromancer Baltro, so like? Did she cast an anti-aging spell on herself at some point? We know Yahna un-ages herself, and that this results in her looking young for the rest of her life, but did Alcina do the same spell? If so how did she manage to survive for...so long? Did Alcina somehow lengthen her own life with magic? From the rapports between Yahna and Rosalinde, we can assume that it's rare for even the most powerful of magic-users to live past a typical human lifespan (if Yahna's anything to go by, a healthy human in Fevrith can live well into their 80s, if not 90s, so we can guess healthy elves live about 200-225 years at their oldest). Alcina is an outlier, and her unhealthy obsession with Gerard does not explain anything about her weirdass aging, except maybe that she preserved herself as best she could so she could meet him again as he would remember her.
Anyhow local army is mostly not made of child soldiers which is, uh, nice compared to other srpgs, but the canon ages are...wild. Can't wait to get my hands on the heights and birthdates.

If there was a Inside Out 3, what would it be like?
(Poster Edit by Me/App on Android: PixelLab)
Like we already got how Sadness and Joy were lost in the first movie, than Anxiety taking control in the second film, I think I the third should be about Riley is ready to go to college next Thursday, and then, nine new emotions appear to take over Riley's mind, the names would be Love, Courage, Surprise, Pride, Trust, Suspicion, Frustration, Shaudenfreude, and the dark emotion himself, Spite. The nine emotions cannot handle it when Riley develops a new crush onto the new boy and that's where things get serious when Spite takes the eight new emotions in his control and uses Love to make Riley's crush into love madness.
As Spite gets rid of our nine heroic emotions out of their jobs, it's up to Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, Anger, Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment to save Headquarters and go through place to place in Riley's new developed mind, which is practically now a Mindtopia. And it means it'll be a lot more tricky.

You Were Never Lovelier
Choreography is destiny in William A. Seiter’s YOU WERE NEVER LOVELIER (1942, TCM). From the moment Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth dance together, to Jerome Kern and Johnny Mercer’s lovely “I’m Old Fashioned,” you know they have to end up with each other. In the Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers films, she’s often presented as a reluctant partner and lesser dancer, so he has to lead her through most of their numbers. Here, however, Hayworth is in love with Astaire before they dance together. In the routine, the two seem to be coming up with steps simultaneously. They’re already bound.
Other comparisons to the Astaire-Rogers series are inevitable (just about every film he made, ends up compared to those pictures). The plot here is a lot more complex, so much so that it takes almost 30 minutes before Astaire gets to dance. Hayworth is the daughter of Argentine hotel owner Adolph Menjou. When she announces she’ll never marry, which leaves his younger daughters (Leslie Brooks and Adele Mara) unable to wed their suitors, Menjou starts sending the elder child orchids with anonymous romantic notes to soften her up to the idea of wedding. By accident, Hayworth thinks Astaire, a dancer stranded in Buenos Aires after he loses his shirt at the racetrack, is her suitor, and Menjou fosters the deception on condition that Astaire disillusion her. How this is supposed to make her more receptive to marrying is anybody’s guess, and things drag at the final unravelling, not helped by Seiter’s tendency to play comedy too slowly. Though there’s some good work by Barbara Brown as Hayworth’s dotty mother, you may find yourself wishing the film had the Astaire-Rogers supporting casts — Edward Everett Horton, Eric Blore, Helen Broderick, etc.
That hardly dims the luster of the two stars, however. Hayworth isn’t just beautiful. She’s a natural actress who brings her dance training to play even in non-musical scenes. And there’s something inherently healthy about her star presence. She just makes you feel better. Astaire, of course, is a master. It’s not just his dancing. Watch his physical comedy. It’s impeccable. And as an actor he pulls off a terrific transition when he falls in love with Hayworth as she lip syncs (to Nan Wynn’s very good vocals) “I’m Old Fashioned.”

Just downed on me I have not been live tumblring(?) these 23 Grammys so much. My lil input? Even tho we didn't have Taylor Swift nor Harry Styles, last year's were better. By a long shot. LONG.
Remember Lizzo's performance of Jerome? Billie Eilish's? That In Memoriam? Omg Lady Gaga's. There was old school, there was soul, there was SO.MUCH.ROCK. and am I wrong or NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys were there as well?(I think that was a different show) The only part that fucking sucked ass was Justin Bieber's Peach on piano. Stupid as shit.
But I'm here for this 50 year of Hip Hop bit. Damn it's fun. These VIBESSSZS goddang I'm time traveling.
Other than that the performances were mid as hell. Beyonce was there but not to perform?
And then the snub of the year. Ridiculous. This Grammy's are a joke. How is All Too Well (the 10min version) not THE song of the year? Never heard that "Just Like That" in all of last year. Bonnie seems like a lovely lady, no shade to her but fr the room went mute, they were all speechless, even her.
Anyway, I'd say a forgettable evening but we saw Taylor Swift dance all night and give a standing ovation to every single person who took the stage, Beyonce break a record and make history, the hip hop segment, and Dwayne Johnson give Adele an award and call her best friend within an hour of having met her.
