Our Glory - Jeon Jae Joon x Fem Reader
Plot: Jae Joon leave South Korea to avoid being part of a violence scandal and arrives in America to start his life again, finding the love of his life who makes him feel human for the first time. Despite the distance, no matter how much he avoids his reality, the ghost of his past will reach him wherever he is endangering everything he has achieved.
Genre: Romance, Fluff, Violence, Angst, Drama Warning: Themes of school violence, abuse of power, minors being harassed, harsh language.
A/N: The story is inspired by The Glory, however, some time periods have changed as well as situations where the protagonist will be part of changing some original scenes.
I appreciate you reading and being part of this new story, as always I hope to please your readers' hearts.
I'll be back soon.
No one would dare to approach the daughter of the most sought-after heir in all New york, in fact no one would even think of marrying a girl as independent and grown up as you.
Your single status was a myth in the chats of the women of your class, how could such a pretty girl, with so much class, be single, hadn't she found someone at her level? Dozens of boys had asked you out because their parents had forced them to do it, that was what the line was, an heir with an heiress, right? But you decided to shoo each one of them away like flies on fresh flowers, too spoiled, arrogant, lazy, they weren't your type.
That night, the night of the charity gala where all the millionaires seemed to attend only to boast about how much their company had given to charitable causes seemed like just another boring night, with nothing to do but stand next to your parents smiling holding a glass of the most expensive (and disgusting) wine that you barely sipped.
Sir, nice to meet you again - a man with a foreign accent and Asian features approached and shook your father's hand before bowing slightly to your mother and you.
The pleasure is mine Mr. Jeon, It would be nice to meet at the club for breakfast one day. How long will you be in town this time? - your father smiled kindly. Despite his status and large bank account, you could tell and presume that he was a generous man with a good heart, and it always made you feel good to hear that you were just like him.
Fortunately this time we will stay a little longer, we are planning to live in America, I have some business in mind and I have started to build a club in this part of the country, you know, bring a little bit of Korea to America so they can get to know a little bit about us - both men continued chatting, laughing perhaps pretending that one was interested in the other's talk
You just sighed and looked around, your high heels were starting to hurt in your heels, your hand was perhaps already numb from holding the same glass all night
Jae Joon how nice that you came - Mr. Jeon smiled patting his son's back making a gesture of displeasure when he noticed the aroma of cigarettes on his clothes - I want you to meet Mr. Y / L/N he is a great friend and excellent partner in bussiness
A pleasure sir - the man offered his hand shaking it firmly with a smile that made his cheeks become plump giving a tender touch to his face
Jae Joon I have heard a lot about you, it is a pleasure to finally meet you -Your father smiled looking at your mother and then lightly took your arm making you turn your face in a surprised way looking forward- this is Y/N my daughter
Nice to meet you miss - Jae Joon smiled at you slightly tilting his head making you respond with just a shy smile
''Another prospect for the inheritance again'' you thought feeling annoyed and bored of the same dynamic every time your father met the son of a bussines partner
It wasn't very difficult to think about it, you could take care of the business, for some reason you had finished college at the best school in Europe, you had experience and many times you were able to support your father in difficult decisions, what was the problem after all, you didn't need a man to be successful.
When you finally got out of the crowd and the air hit your face you breathed a sigh of relief, it didn't matter that it was cold outside, it was almost the end of November but it was still better than being suffocated between expensive perfumes and the aroma of hundreds of exotic dishes that you hated.
You found the first stone bench on the balcony decorated with plants to sit and rest, the pain in your ankles was a burning sensation that you felt constantly but you were forced to endure to look "elegant"
Are you bored too? - a deep and velvety voice made you come out of your trance while you slowly massaged your ankle
Excuse me? - you looked at him confused
People here are boring just talking about money and business - he sighed bringing a cigarette to her mouth lighting it quickly - you don't mind me smoking, right?
No, I was leaving anyway - you smiled at him kindly standing up to enter the large hall again
You know - his voice made you turn around looking at him not at all curious, just not seeming rude and leaving him talking to himself - I don't know many people around here, I'm new in town and it would be nice, I don't know, to go out someday to get to know each other, after all I'll be around here for a long time
I don't usually work as a tour guide Mr. Jeon, excuse me - you smiled ironically turning around annoyed at getting the same thing again every time someone met you, a boring date proposal
Your answer had frozen him in place, he had never gotten a rejection from any girl, in fact the women in his country fought to get even a little attention from him, this caused him a feeling of rejection that he had never felt, in fact, in these cases his anger would have shot up breaking a couple of plants and damaging the property but as much as he tried to get upset he couldn't find where he had kept that feeling, he simply felt alone and rejected.
With the days you became more and more convinced that you would probably never find an honest man, in your class they didn't exist, they only looked for contacts and last names, it was clear that was why most of them looked for you and to be honest it wasn't something you were looking for, you enjoyed your single life, going out with your friends and doing everything as you wanted without giving explanations to anyone, although sometimes, you couldn't help but feel jealous and lonely seeing how most of them had someone to share with.
Nobody is at your level or maybe you just aren't lucky enough? - Ashley laughed, drinking from her glass with her left hand, showing off her (third) engagement ring
I can have any man I want, but that doesn't mean I'll go to bed with everyone, it's not my style - you smiled at her, drinking, making your other friends laugh
Oh yeah? And who have you wanted? Because we've never met anyone, right? - she smiled mockingly, making your friends erase their smiles, settling down a bit
Danielle was a little smarter, she changed the topic of the conversation to avoid awkwardness among the group, but in your head you couldn't stop thinking about your parents' words.
''I'm getting old, I'd like to see you have a happy life like mine, I'd like to have grandchildren, that's all''
''SaeHyeon has talked to me a lot about his son, he told me that he asked you out and you didn't accept, he seems very interested in you, why don't you give him a chance?''
Maybe… after all, they were right.
So, a couple of weeks later you decided to change your lifestyle and go for what everyone said was "wonderful." Your father was surprised to see you ready in your sportswear to accompany him to the Jeon golf course. He knew you perfectly so he didn't mention anything and just gave you a slight smile so as not to make you uncomfortable with your decision where you clearly weren't interested in talking about business.
The trip was short and when you arrived you were surprised by the architecture so elegant and different from that of your country, very minimalist and clean, the rooms were large, with furniture that combined perfectly and large windows, you could hear your father talking to a partner in the distance but your attention was totally given to the beauty of the place.
After a while and after having breakfast in the large room full of tables and delicious food you were able to go out to see the gardens, the golf carts passed by and every step you took showed you natural places where people showed their skills on the game.
Y/N?…what a surprise to see you here - Jae Joon smiled approaching while a couple of men watched him walk away with worried faces - go do your jobs, I'll see you later - he looked at them pushing them away with his hand making both of them leave almost running - I didn't know you were a member of the club
I'm not, my father came to talk to some members and I decided to accompany him - you smiled a little holding your sports bag with both hands
Don't worry, you can come here whenever you want, I'll tell them to let you in without bothering you with memberships or that paperwork - his smile didn't fade making you find him cute - would you like to come see the place with me?
Sure - you smiled at him again walking beside him with slow steps looking around as he talked about how many golf gardens they had, how many tennis courts and other boring ''rich'' people sports
What do you think? - His gaze was curious, as if looking for proof of you in the newly opened place
It's very nice, I've never seen anything so elegant and beautiful - you smiled looking at the small flower garden that adorned one side of an artificial lake
Do you like flowers? - he ask you curious
Yes, they're pretty, gardenias are my favorites - you looked at him nodding, returning your gaze to the lake where some people were practicing with their canoes
I'll ask them to plant gardenias all around the lake, how about a couple of benches too, so whenever you want to come and smell them you can sit comfortably on them - he smile moving his hands in front of both like designing the new additions to the place
What?…no it's not necessary…
Of course it is, if you're going to come here, I want you to feel at home - his face was so kind and warm that it made you feel a kind of butterflies and weirdness inside you
It wasn't possible that in just a couple of minutes you felt something for someone that you barely knew their name, it wasn't normal for you.
Sir, excuse the interruption, we need your help - a man dressed in a suit with a nervous face looked at him while rubbing his hands nervously on his pants
It seemed that the interruption had made Jae Joon change his face and personality in just a second, his jaw tensed and he rolled his eyes looking at him annoyed
I told you that I hate being interrupted, do I have to solve everything myself? - her hands clenched tightly causing the man to look down in fear
It's okay, you can go don't worry - you smiled at him feeling anxious from the tension of the moment adjusting your sports backpack on your shoulder
I'm sorry I have to go, some people are too stupid to do their own work - the veins in his eyes turned red as if the fury couldn't be contained within his body, he didn't even give you time to respond when both men quickened their pace towards a destination unknown to you.
After all you were relieved, the encounter ended before it became awkward, but you couldn't help but notice that his personality changed with the rest of the people.
That night while you were drying your hair your phone rang on your vanity full of perfumes, your biggest obsession.
''I'm sorry about this morning, would you like to go to dinner? JJ''
His simple message made you smile making you feel strange, did you have feelings for Jae Joon? The best thing would be to answer him, or maybe not? If you did it quickly he would realize that you were very interested, but if you waited a little he would feel that you were not interested at all.
''Of course xx''
The first date was exciting for both of you, you talked for hours about your lives and what you would like for the future, you could feel as if your destiny was destined, fortunately neither of you touched on business topics, it was the first time you went out with a man who didn't brag about how hard his father had worked for him just to spend the money and that made you feel comfortable.
Jae Joon couldn't believe how comfortable he felt with you and how much he enjoyed sharing time by your side, in fact he felt like another person when you were near him, his outbursts of anger and that anger that he always felt inside of him didn't exist, you were the calm that he needed to be happy despite sometimes remembering why he came to America and it made him feel afraid.
Within a few weeks they had already lost count of how many times they had gone out, in fact they never counted the times they saw each other because despite his work he always found a moment to visit you or you took advantage of your free afternoons to go to the club and eat with him even if it was only a couple of hours that they could be together.
It was around April when both of them attended the art gallery of Sara, Jae Joon's friend who thanks to a charitable cause was able to exhibit in America.
You walked around the place taking his arm while you contemplated the colors and shapes of the paintings, they were so different from what you were used to seeing, sometimes, reacting excitedly by the combinations you saw.
Isn't it pretty? I had never imagined seeing flowers colored like that - you smiled excitedly while your arms surrounded his
Yes… it's pretty - Jae Joon sighed looking away
It would look good in a living room with a carpet of that color, maybe combined with several colors, I don't know… what do you think? - you smiled again looking at him only getting him to nod uncomfortably taking the phone from his pocket
Honey give me a minute, it's something urgent - he looked at you embarrassed leaving quickly while leaving you standing in the middle of the exhibition
This time it was you who sighed, maybe you were going a little fast and you made him uncomfortable, maybe he wasn't looking for anything formal and your comments were going too far
Your boyfriend left you alone? - Sara laughed sarcastically approaching
He.. he's not my boyfriend - you smiled shyly taking your bag with both hands nervously
I know, don't worry, it's not your fault or did you make him uncomfortable princess, Jae Joon is colorblind he doesn't distinguish colors - she smiled mockingly leaning on a table while drinking from her glass - didn't he tell you?
He.. he's colorblind? - your heart felt like it had been squeezed and even though you had never done it with the intention of making him uncomfortable, you couldn't help but remember all the times you had mentioned something about colors - I didn't… I didn't know, sorry
I know, he never mentions it, it makes him feel stupid - she sighed playing with her empty glass - when we were in high school, the boys used to make fun of his condition, the poor guy only defended himself when he beat them in the face
I… god I feel so bad.. I… I'm going to see him - you looked at her shyly, fixing your hair nervously
Go honey, rescue your prince charming… or something like that - she laughed drinking the few drops left in the glass, while you hurried your step leaving feeling the fresh air hit your face
A couple of minutes walking through the parking lot was enough when you could find him standing next to a small planter, his head pointing to the sky while he placed drops of a small flower in his eyes boat, the sound of your heels on the pavement made him turn quickly wiping the liquid that ran down his cheeks, possibly what he had placed as lubricant.
Doll I'm sorry… give me a moment - he cleared his throat turning his back to you embarrassed
Jae Joon.. it's okay - you shyly took his arm delicately making him look at you embarrassed - Sara… she already told me… I'm sorry for not paying attention
Sara… - he sighed rolling his eyes tensing his jaw again - that damn…
You don't have to be upset, it's nothing to be ashamed of - you smiled at him adjusting the lock of his hair that the breeze had disarranged covering one of his eyes - your condition doesn't bother me if that's the reason you hadn't told me yet..
His eyes looked at you quickly, his heart skipped a beat feeling something different inside him again.
Jae Joon was the man of your dreams, he was tender and attentive to excess, he remembered every single thing about you as if he had a notebook especially for you in his head, he remembered important dates even the ones you sometimes forgot
During April with the excuse of seeing the city from the top of the Empire State he took you to the top to see the sunset, in reality, he only had eyes for you completely ignoring the sunset and the buildings that adorned the landscape.
Do you know what we came for? - he smiled at you while hugging you from behind resting his chin on your shoulder
We didn't go to see the city right? - you smiled at him, suspecting his intentions
No, I want the whole city to know from here that my girlfriend is the smartest and most beautiful woman on the planet and she's only for me - his face was hidden between the strands of your hair that he was obsessed with the aroma
I'm not your girlfriend Jae Joon… - you laughed trying to look at him making him laugh
Then I'll ask you here so everyone knows you're mine - he laughed kissing your cheek - do you want to be my girlfriend?
Mm.. I should think about it, what do you offer me Mr. Jeon? - you laughed turning a little until you could hug his neck with your arms making him laugh again surrounding your waist
I promise that from today you will live the glory every day we spend together, I can even swear that you are the future Mrs. Jeon and nobody can change that
Then let's live the glory Mr. Jeon..

The Glory -> You visit them in prison
Requested: No
Kdrama: The Glory
Genre: Angst. Fluff?
Warnings: Mentions of murder. Mentions of bullying. Mentions of death. No remorse. Swearing.
A/N: I absolutely do not condone anything that was presented in the kdrama. No one should ever bully others. This is all purely fiction.
Moon Dong-eun
Dongeun had never been one to truly care about fashion, mainly because she only purchased items of clothing that could conceal the horrid burn scars that were inflicted on her during high school. However, it did not mean that she approved of the prison uniform that was currently fitted to her body. While the colour itself did not bother her, nor that it was a prison uniform, but it was rather the short sleeves of the uniform that bothered her.
Since the day Dongeun had received the burn marks from Yeonjin and the others, she has always covered them with long clothing. Ranging from long-sleeve dressed to oversized jackets and sweaters, Dongeun always made sure to hide her scars from the public eye, hating the looks of horror that were immediately scorned her way, constantly bringing a wave of humiliation to her.
She never should have been forced into the position where she feels that she has to constantly hide herself. She shouldn’t be fearful over the fact that someone could possibly catch a glimpse of her bare forearms in case they notice the first burn scar which had marked her collection. She should not living her life for the sole purpose of revenge, and yet it was the only thing which had kept her alive so far.
Dongeun stared blankly at you from the other side of the plastic screen in the visitation ward, your own face filled with obvious sadness with tears streaming down your face while you stared at her from your side of the screen. While her heart pinched at the sight of your tears, she did not allow herself to show any concern. Between the two of you, she had to be the strongest. You were already the more emotionally one between the two of you, so that meant that she had to be the controlled one.
“Dongeun... You uttered, your bottom lip trembling after her name left your mouth, the anguish obvious to even the prisoner guard who was monitoring Dongeun’s visit with you. “I’m so sorry.”
“I have already said that it is not your fault Y/N. This was a possible risk.”
Dongeun had expected for Yeonjin to try use her means of wealth and resources in an attempt to stop her journey of revenge; however, she didn’t quite anticipate that she would manage to spin a made up story which incriminated Dongeun for supposedly blackmailing students at her workplace for some benefits. While there was hardly any evidence to the story, there was apparently some constructed proof, no doubt courtesy to Mr Chu who had some sort of vindictive grudge towards Dongeun for some whatever reason.
And so Dongeun was serving time for a crime that she did not commit, although she did not plan to stay for long.
“Still, so much has happened to you and yet-”
“One thing to know about revenge Y/N is that you should expect the unexpected. I had expected this, but did not anticipate in it actually happening.”
“Why are you so calm?!” You suddenly screeched, slamming your hand hard on the table that it echoed in the room.
Dongeun felt the gaze of the prisoner guard behind her, no doubt attempting to diagnose the cause of your temper flare, but Dongeun did not react. She instead continued to gaze at you with a blank gaze.
“I see no point in losing my temper over something that is inevitable. Becoming lost in a rage is not going to change the fact that I am in here.”
“But you didn’t do it!” You exclaimed, staring at her desperately as tears continued to escape. “You don’t deserve to be in here! Out of all people, it is Yeonjin and her whole group of asshole friends!”
You were not someone who habitually cursed, although it became a different story when you lost your temper. Even though it was hardly appropriate, a small smile found itself gracing Dongeun’s lips, her eyes lighting up slightly as she gazed at your frazzled appearance. You immediately furrowed your eyebrows when you noticed the small.
“Why are you smiling?”
“...I don’t know.”
It was true.
She didn’t know why she was smiling, but she had found that since meeting you, smiles have become a more frequent in her life. After her high school experiences with Yeonjin and the others, Dongeun could hardly feel any sort of happiness during her years into adulthood. Dongeun had to work to survive and survival hardly had any room for emotions such as happiness. Possibly the only form of happiness she felt was when she marked the start of her revenge plot against Yeonjin. Her laborious thoughts of revenge slowly started to become true, and the pieces slipping into place brought a sense of twisted glee to Dongeun, who has been a victim for Yeonjin far beyond their high school days.
And yet somehow and somewhat, she has found herself feeling a different sort of glee when she was with you. Although perhaps the correct word to use was contentment. She became somewhat content in your presence. Something she was not used to.
“There has to be something that we can do.” You said, ducking your head as you sniffled as your tears began to blur your eyesight, making you miss the tilt of Dongeun’s head as she looked at you. Dongeun reached out and tapped the transparent screen, the sound prompting you to lift your head again. She leaned in so that she could talk to you in a lower tone.
“There is nothing that we can do but wait. You must remain home and continue with your everyday life. You do not need to worry about me.”
You looked at her in slight confusion for a few moments before your expression suddenly hardened, your eyes becoming sharp despite the moisture in them.
“If you think that I am going to just leave you like this-”
“You are not because I will not be here for much longer.” Dongeun interrupted, a small gleeful smile gracing her lips again as her eyes lit up with small determination. “I already have a plan for my release, but it will take some time so I need you to continue living normally without me. You will hear more about it from me soon.”
“Dongeun...what are you-”
“I can’t tell you now but I promise that I will soon. Trust me Y/N...I have a plan for something like this.”
While Dongeun did not anticipate for herself to be put into this situation, it did not mean that she did not plan for the possibility. She had already started the process of her eventual release, courtesy of a certain doctor who was determined to be her executioner. Although while he did play an important part, he could not compare to you, her warden.
Her warden who did whatever they could to protect her, as expected of a warden. You guarded and protected, be it Dongeun or her proof for revenge. She trusted you and she knew that you trusted her to keep to her word and eventually tell you her plan. Although not for the moment. It was not the right time. She will tell you when the time is right, when there is no possibility of derailment.
Joo Yeo-jeong
Despite the dark grey uniform that was clothing his body and the plastic screen that was separating him from you, Yeojeong couldn’t help but smile thoughtfully while you looked at him from the opposite seat, eyebrows furrowed at his expression.
“Why are you smiling?” You asked, your hand raised half in the air as you leaned back in your chair, fingers lazily moving against one another. His eyes brightened at your question.
“I’m happy.” He said, as if it was the most obvious answer in the world.
Although to Yeojeong, it was the most obvious answer in the world. He had finally done it. He had finally ended the life of his own tormentor. It took over two years but he eventually managed to see the light fade away from that animal that had ruined his entire life. He had so meticulous with his revenge. He at first started with the weekly medication that prisoners were entitled to have until eventually progressing to the food that he would eat. He maintained his professional facade the entire time, no one suspecting his true intentions.
He internally found delight in the wariness of the animal, cautiously stepping towards the counter to receive his medication, all while Yeojeong maintained his friendly demeanor. While he had smiled at tormentor, appearing friendly from the public eye, only he could recognize the iciness of the smile. Yeonjeong had promised him that he had to be careful when the two of them met again because then Yeojeong was going to mark the start of his revenge. He had promised that he was going to kill him and that nobody was going to suspect foul play because Yeojeong was a doctor.
It had worked for the whole two years. Yeojeong had made sure that the process was slow. He wanted to draw it out as much as he could because the animal did not deserve a quick death. He made sure that his father had choked on his blood, suffocating him and making his death panicked and painful with himself being the last thing that his father would ever see until he finally succumbed to his injuries. That was something that Yeojeong could never forgive. He could never forgive the monster who had created his father’s death, nor could he forgive that the betrayal he demonstrated by killing the doctor who had saved his life.
Yeojeong drew out his death deliciously, and when he finally stared down at the dying monster, he couldn’t help but smile. He had leaned down so that they were practically face-to-face, a calm smile on his face as he took in his moment of victory.
“Do you need me to give you something for the pain?”
The terror in his eyes were wonderful and nothing brought Yeojeong more delight than seeing the moment of death. He had finally completed his revenge. He avenged his father and his family. He managed to make the monster pay for all the pain he had caused Yeojeong and his family. He could finally move on with his life, with you and with his mother.
...Only he was eventually suspected of being the cause of the death.
It took some digging to eventually track down the proof that would give them the right to imprison Yeojeong. He did not even put up a fight when they had arrived with handcuffs. He did not feel any fear or sadness; however, he did feel a sense of guilt when he turned around to see you standing in the entryway of his home, having rushed from the table where the two of you were having dinner. He did make sure to utter an ‘I love you’ to you before he was hauled away, the officer reading out his rights as he was escorted out his home and towards the police vehicle which was waiting for him.
“...You are happy that you are in prison?” You asked, snapping him out of his thoughts as he began to recall his memory of his object of revenge finally becoming lost in the next realm, most likely to a fiery inferno. He smiled serenely at you.
“Not exactly.”
“...Then why are you happy?”
“I feel achieved.”
“I achieved?”
“Yes. I finally did it Y/N, I finally killed that monster. He’s dead and its all because of me. He feared for it. He feared for his death. He feared me. It was glorious.”
It was truly glorious. It was possibly the best entertainment that Yeojeong could ever have in his life. While it was expected for him to find a new means to entertain himself, nothing could ever compare to the two year game he had to play. It was wonderful.
Crack!
Yejeong suddenly jumped at the sound of your fist hitting the table, your facial features twisted harshly as you glared from your end of the screen, your jaw clenching tightly.
“Right. It was so glorious that you didn’t think of the possibility of getting caught, or even think about how this would affect me.” He furrowed his eyebrows at you, slightly confused. You scoffed at his expression. “Were you so obsessed with your idea of revenge that it didn’t even occur to you to even mention the fact that you were going on a whole revenge trip to kill a man?!”
Yeojeong felt his body tense defensively, his facial features hardening as he stared at you.
“It wasn’t just any man, he was the man that-”
“Yes I know that now Yeojeong, after I had to hear it from a detective! Don’t you think I had to right to know about your whole plan? Don’t you think that I had the right to know that you were trying to kill someone?!”
“...”
Yeojenong couldn’t help but stare at you with furrowed eyebrows, the suddenly posed question making him ponder to himself. Why hadn’t he told you about it? The two of you had steadily progressed in your relationship. You found him after Dongeun had suddenly vanished, and he found himself finding comfort and contentment in your presence, slowly but surely falling in love with you.
...But it did not occur to him to inform you of his plans.
He was unable to say anything because he didn’t know what he could say to placate you. It simply never did cross his mind, and you had been by his side for the past two years. Why didn’t he tell you?
His lack of an answer angered you and he couldn’t help but whip his head up at you as you stood up from your seat, shaking your head before sparing him with a final glance.
“Forget it Yeojeong.”
And then you left. Your shoes leaving an echoing sound in the room as you exited the through the door and slammed it shut, leaving Yeojeong behind in stunned silence.
Ha Do-yeong
Doyeong could not stand the look that you were giving him from your side of the screen, your eyes glossed over with pity and fear for him; although he did not blame you since neither of you knew when he would eventually be let out. He let out a sigh and threaded his fingers through his hair, it becoming longer than usual due to the past time in the prison. While he could have it done, he has chosen not to. He decided that it was going to be one of the first things he was going to do once he released.
“How is Yesol?” He asked, looking at you with tense eyes as he waited for an answer. You sighed and leaned back in your seat.
“She is sad but she is doing okay, much better than I had expected. But she missed you. She misses her daddy. She doesn’t understand why you are in here...and I don’t know what to tell her.”
“Did you tell her what we had agreed on?” He asked, anxiety shooting through him at the thought of his daughter finding out the truth. You nodded.
“Yes. As far as she knows, you were put in here by mistake. That you were put in here by some bad people. But Doyeong, she is a lot smarter than you think. She has started asking me questions that I don’t know how to answer. She is going to eventually figure out the truth.”
“Yes but lets prolong it for just a bit longer. She already has a mother who is a bully and a murderer...me being a crook is not something that she needs to deal with. I know better than anyone that at times ignorance is simply bliss.”
“But Doyeong...it wasn’t even your fault.”
“But it is in the eyes of the law.”
Doyeong has always prided himself on his natural instincts towards certain topics because they had never failed him. From his business school years to the strong, effective progression of his company, Doyeong had always managed to trust his instincts to guide him along the correct path.
And yet that had incorrectly guided him into the arms of a black widow, better known as Yeonjin, childhood bully and adult terror. Doyeong could not believe that he was so blind to her true nature, even though he had fallen for her during their whole courtship. She was beautiful, it was obvious, and perhaps that was why he was so attracted to her in the first place. He liked them pretty. She had a charm about her which could not be easily replicated, and like a moth to a flame, he was drawn in, not realizing that he was going to be burnt nearly a decade later.
His instincts had started working again when Moon Dongeun had entered Yeonjin’s life again, which inevitably caused the woman to enter his own. He could not believe the cruel capabilities of his wife, inflicting such cruel harm onto somebody simply because she could. While Doyeong would hardly say he was an innocent student during his high school years, he would have never done anything that Yeonjin and her friends had done to Moon Dongeun.
What they had done to the woman...it was inhuman.
Doyeong was disgusted that he had married a monster. He wouldn’t even be able to call her a human because no human would be cruel enough to inflict such pain onto another. Yeonjin could not be classified as a human. She was an animal. A monster. Anything but a human. The only way Yeonjin preserved any form of her humanity was through the birth and upbringing of Yesol.
Despite her not being his biological daughter, she was the purest thing in the world. While she had her mother’s beauty, she did not possess her twisted personality. She was innocent, sweet, and naturally curious. She was such a sweet girl who loved dolls and soccer. She enjoys making food for him and you, the two of you often bonding in the kitchen and sharing smiles and laughter which couldn’t stop a smile crawling along his own face.
The last bit of innocence that Yeonjin had before it died in school was reincarnated in Yesol, and Doyeong was going to do his best to protect it. He was not going to allow her to become like either of her biological parents. It was a vow that he had made to himself.
“I’m sure your lawyers will find something. You were not the reason for the whole scheme. You didn’t even know that it was a scheme in the first place.”
“But I am the one who had signed the papers Y/N. In the eyes of everyone and the law, I knew exactly what was happening. My signature on the documents says it all.”
His instincts had failed him for the first time with his marriage to Yeonjin, and they failed him for the second time for his entrapment in a money laundering scheme that had been discovered.”
He should have known better than to sign. He should have had his people investigate the company even more, but the business people had done their homework carefully and meticulously. Doyeong would almost be impressed if he was not the one who was had become the drop man, taking all the blame and burden once the scheme was discovered. Even though his hands were clean, they were not in the eyes of the law, hence why he was locked up in prison in a visiting ward with you.
“Don’t lose hope Doyeong. The truth will come out. I’m sure of it.” You said hopefully, a resolute look in your eyes.
Doyeong gazed at you for a few moments, almost thoughtful because he could not understand why you were so hopeful in a time which seemed hopeless to him. His lawyers would have found something by now to prove his innocence, but they have found nothing. As far as he knew, he was stuck here and there was a possibility that he was never going to get out.
“...Let us hope so.” Doyeong said, forcing a small smile on his face as he gazed at you, leaning forward to rest his elbows on the table. “Please keep looking after Yesol for me.”
You flashed a small smile at him, shaking your head before leaning forward in return to be closer to him as best that you could.
“You don’t even need to ask me that Doyeong. Of course I will.”
Doyeong smiled in return, a more genuine one this time as he nodded gratefully to you, thankful to have someone like you in his life to man the ship outside the prison until he hopefully returns.
Park Yeon-jin
The silence was eating away at Yeonjin, burrowing her out from the inside while she trembled in her seat, her fingers incessantly picking at her cuticles as she waited for you to speak. You have already been here for twenty minutes and had yet to answer a single question that Yeonjin had asked. She had assumed that it was because it was still a shock to you to see her in such a horrible dressing clothes. Yeonjin was still in a state of disbelief herself that she was wearing the prison uniform, the garment doing nothing for her but torment her for all the things that have happened to her ever since the arrival of that bitch Moon Dongeun.
She should have just killed her years ago...just as she did with Sohee.
But there was hardly any time for her to think about those two pathetic beings. You were here in front of her, the only person who would visit her. Sara she knows is locked up somewhere for her stupid drug addiction, as well as stabbing that backstabber Hyejeong in the neck. Yeonjin sincerely hopes that she bled out or swallowed the whole pencil whole. And Jaejun hadn’t even bothered to show his face. But he was literally the last person she wanted to see her like this. It was humiliating enough for that damned Moon Dongeun to see her like this...that pathetic bitch deserved to die for everything that she has done to her.
Her perfect life was shattered the second that bitch had stepped foot back into that school hall.
Her nerves were already on the edge with being in this prison, the vilest of women residing in here that one could mistake them as the slugs on the garden wall that has been residing there for generations. They disgusted her and sharing her living quarters with them horrified her. There was no sense of elegance or luxury. She had no reason for being here. She did not deserve to be here. It was all because of that damned scarred bitch. She should be the one in this damn prison for ruining her life.
The only thing that could give her some sense of reprieve was you, but your silence was making her hell even more torturous. She hasn’t spoken to anyone since her arrival. They were not people who she could converse with, or even want to converse with. Tossing backwater in the dryers with Hyejeong would have been more enjoyable that interacting with those disgusting slug women. You were the only one in the prison who was worth her time and sanity, and yet you are not speaking to her.
She has sent you letters and yet you have not answered them. Yeonjin felt like she was going mad here. You were the only form of sanity that she had left in this hell. You were the only reminder of her previous utopia before she ended up in here. You were her past life. She wanted it back. She wanted you.
“Y/N...speak to me already.” She said, letting out a nervous laugh as she looked at you, expression tightened seriously as you stared at her. “Do you have news for me? Have my lawyers said anything? How is Yesol, is she-”
“You don’t have to worry about Yesol. Doyeong is taking care of her.” You suddenly interrupted, finally speaking your voice after the last twenty minutes. Yeonjin flinched at your hard voice, but she immediately fixed her attention on you.
“T-That’s good. Y/N I am telling you that this place is my living hell. You have to talk to my lawyers and get them to-”
“What lawyers Yeonjin? In case you had forgotten, the lawyers that were helping you out were hired by Doyeong. You don’t have a single cent to spend on a lawyer, not even a public one.” You snapped, your voice sharp as a knife as you glared at her from your side. Just the sound of your hard voice and glare immediately made Yeonjin tighten up defensively.
“What do you think you are saying to me? Y/N I swear-”
“What can you do Yeonjin? You are in there and I am out here. There is literally nothing that you can do to me. Nothing.”
Your sudden hiss took Yeonjin aback completely, her eyes widening at the harsh way that you were talking to her. You have never spoken to her in this manner before. You have always been more soft spoken , submissive to Yeonjin in a sense, but it was the way Yeonjin liked you because you always made her feel more powerful and worshiped. Your eyes were always filled with awe and adoration when you saw her...and yet the only thing she could see in them were ice.
“I don’t have time for this. So I’m just going to give it to you straight. I’m leaving.” You announced, checking your watch for good measure before glancing at Yeonjin again, showing no reaction to her stunned expression.
“...What? What do you mean?” Yeonjin questioned, her eyebrows furrowing as she sat frozen in her seat, a wave of anxiety slowly building up with her the longer she continued to stare at you. You sighed again.
“I got a job offering overseas. I’m going to take it.”
“You can’t.” Yeonjin immediately snapped, shaking her head as she stared at you with hard eyes, the wave getting bigger within her. “You can’t go anywhere.”
“Newsflash Yeonjin, it is not up to you. And even if it was, there is literally nothing you can do to stop me from leaving.” You snapped, leaning down to grab your bag. The sight of you gathering your belonging immediately made a snap of panic through Yeonjin’s body, making her leap out of her chair and completely pressed against the screen, her action making you startle as she pressed her palms against the plastic and dug her nails against the surface.
“What the hell do you think you are saying? You can’t leave! What about me? Did you fucking think about me?!” She screeched against the screen, her entire body trembling as she stood before you in a deranged state, the sight making your eyes widen for a second before hardening the next. You stood up from your seat.
“All this time I have thought about you and it led me to accepting the job. What did you expect Yeonjin? Did you expect me to come here everyday to see you when it is a known fact that you are never going to get out?”
“I am going to get out! I am going to-”
“Wake the fuck up Yeonjin! You are never getting out! You fucking killed people! You literally bullied people so badly that they much preferred death than spending another second living in the same world as you! And whats worse is that you don’t even feel remotely sorry for what you have done! It’s disgusting, and I can’t believe that I fell for you in the first place!”
Yeonjin could see it. Your lack for love for her. The previous affection and adoration you had for her before was completely vanquished from your body. All she was staring at was an ice cold individual who looked disgusted at the very sight of Yeonjin. She hated it. She detested it. It fucking terrified her. And it terrified her even more when you turned around and started to walk away from her.
“Yah! Where are you going?! Where the fuck are you going?! You can’t leave me here! You bitch, you can’t fucking leave me!”
Even when Yeonjin heard the shout of the prison guard behind her, she did not stop punching the plastic screen separating you and her from one another. You didn’t even turn back to look at her as she cursed and screeched at you. The sound of the door slamming as you exited the room was almost as lethal as a bullet to her heart. A bullet would have been less painful than the fact that you had presented her.
You were leaving.
And she had just been left behind.
Jeon Jae-jun
Prison did not suit him.
Jaejun has gone through literal hell being here, especially when it was discovered that he was a part of the higher society than the fucking animals that resided in these walls. The stunts that have pulled on him day and night, it was enough to make him to want to smash his fucking head against the concrete walls.
He was pissed over the fact he was in here in the first place. He paid a shit ton to his lawyer and men to make sure that all of his finances were clean, but its seemed like that asshole Myeong-oh purposefully left some documents laying around which allowed Jaejun to get arrested for tax evasion. He had been so fucking careful but the mess up by one asshole had brought him to a literal downfall.
If that asshole Myeong-oh wasn’t already dead, he would have fucking killed him.
You have tried your best to help him get through this, visiting him nearly five times a week to keep him some sort of company, although it hardly did shit because in the end you were able to leave this hellhole while he had to stay behind and deal with the down dogs that he was sharing his living quarters with. It also didn’t fucking help that you brought along his lawyer, attempting to keep him updated with his bail process but it kept coming to a damn dead end.
“If you want me to be realistic...you have about a 20% chance on being granted bail.” His lawyer said, his matter-of-fact tone making Jaejun tighten his fists in anger as he stared across from you and him from his side of the visitation table. He noticed you flash his lawyer a disheartened look before it brightened into a hopeful expression as you turned to look at Jaejun.
“But that is still better than nothing. I’m sure a miracle can happen and-”
“I don’t believe in fucking miracles Y/N. You fucking know that.” Jaejun snapped, shifting his gaze at you with a sharp edge. You immediately flinched at his tone and look, making him sigh and shaking his head to try get a hold of himself. ‘Forget it.”
“Jaejun, I-”
“Get out.” Jaejun suddenly ordered, snapping his head up at attention.
He noticed your eyes widened at his sudden order, shock and fear evident in them before they eventually settled away when you realized that he was not talking to you but to his lawyer. His lawyer was startled by Jaejun’s sudden harsh look on him, making him shift uncomfortably in his chair.
“Listen Jaejun, I know it is tough, but I-”
“Are you fucking deaf? I said get out!” Jaejun screeched, kicking his legs out for good measure as he shared at his lawyer, who immediately shot from his seat and scurried out of the room, leaving you and Jaejun alone. Once he disappeared from sight, Jaejun slumped into his seat, exhaustion suddenly washing over him.
“...Jaejun?” You meekly called out, causing him to lift his head in question as he took in your small frame. He sighed again before repositioning himself and staring at you with a solemn expression.
“How is Yesol?” He asked, anticipating and anxiety building up in his stomach as he looked at you for answers.
That was probably the worst part about him being in prison. He was missing out on his time with being with Yesol. The little girl was nearly the spitting image of Yeonjin when they were kids, but she no doubt had his adorable looks. He was a cute kid back in the day, and it was a no brainer for his kid to be adorable, which Yesol has evidently proven because she is the cutest thing that he has ever seen in his life. He was making a plan for her to finally become his, for the two of them to finally become a family. He wasn’t going to be an uncle to her anymore, he was going to be his father.
And Meyong-oh fucked up his plans perfectly with this fucking stunt.
You seemed almost hesitant to answer, glancing around nervously before you cleared your throat and slowly grabbed your bag and dug through its contents before pulling out your phone. He watched you unlock it and slide your finger across the screen multiple times before finally turning it around to show him a picture of Yesol in her soccer uniform, a smile on her face as she kicked a ball. A smile immediately crawled along Jaejun’s face as he looked at the photo, a light feeling filling his chest the longer he looked at it.
“She is adorable.” He uttered, genuine happiness evident in his face as he continued to look at the photo. “You got any more?”
“I...no.” You confessed, tugging your phone back and clutching it to your chest. “I...I got caught by the security guard and he tossed me off the grounds.”
“...Why the fuck did he do that? What right does he have?!” Jaejun suddenly yelled, picturing a large, beefy man forcefully pulling you away from the soccer field and Yesol. You looked at him meekly.
“I...because I wasn’t a parent, and...it also doesn’t help that I...I...”
“...You what?” Jaejun said, narrowing his eyes at your sudden nervous stammer. You gulped at his glare and didn’t say anything for a few moments before finally speaking again.
“I...got a restraining order against me for Yesol.”
...
“WHAT?!”
This time Jaejun leapt up from his seat as he screamed, making the prisoner guards immediately rush at him to force him back but he shook them off, snapping that he was fine before taking a seat again. His breathing was suddenly very uneven due to the progressive boiling of his blood.
“Why the fuck is there a restraining order against you?!”
“I...people started noticing me take photos of Yesol...and...and they found it suspicious and told Doyeong. He is the one that issued it against me.”
“That fucking asshole!” Jaejun screeching, earning himself another scolding yell from the prisoner guards which made him turn around to glare at all of them before turning back to you. “Can you reverse it?”
“W-What?”
“I asked if you can fucking reverse it. Can you?”
“I...I don’t know.”
“Then you better fucking find out! I need you to keep an eye on Yesol for me while I’m in this fucking hellhole. You need to get it reversed!”
“...I just told you that I got a restraining order against me...and you are concerned about Yesol?”
The look you gave him was a mixture of shock and disbelief, something which did not stir right with Jaejun. He cursed and rubbed his face before looking back at you.
“Listen, I know its bad but I need you to keep watching Yesol for me. Talk to my lawyer and he can start the process with reversing it. Out of all of this, Yesol is the most important person here.”
“...Jaejun, I can’t just break a restraining order. I...I’ll get into real trouble if I do.”
“So what! It’s for Yesol!” Jaejun suddenly screamed, making you jumping in your seat. “She’s my fucking daughter. Why the fuck wouldn’t you break a stupid piece a paper for her?!”
“Because she is not mine!”
Jaejun froze when the words left your lips. You also froze the moment you realized what you had said, staring wide-eyed at Jaejun before scurrying out of your seat, bag and phone gripped tightly in your hands. You shook your head at him as you slowly began to back away.
“I’m sorry Jaejun...but I can’t do it.”
You flashed him a remorseful look before scurrying away, leaving him in stunned silence until his mind finally clicked with your words, causing him to lash out and deliver several sharp punches against the plastic screen until he was forcefully restrained by the prisoner guards, your name leaving his mouth as he shouted blue murder as he was dragged away from the visitation room.
Lee Sa-ra
Sara could not stop shivering. It was not because it was cold but because her body was yearning for the sustenance she has been relying on for nearly eighteen years. She couldn’t help but dig her fingers into her hair, tugging at the strands harshly, feeling her scalp burn from the intense amount of force she was using. It was not much but it was a small sense of relief, but it did not do the job like the real thing did.
The tremors wouldn’t stop and Sara felt like she was losing her grip on her sanity the longer she stayed cooped up in this hellhole with no form of entertainment, inspiration, or pleasure.
“...Sara?”
...There was perhaps only one form of pleasure that she found in this hellhole and that was when you decided to visit her.
Sara raised her head from its hiding place on the table surface, her arms creating a tent over her head to protect her from the daylight while her hair hung loose around her face, curtaining her from the offensive sunlight. Although even though her hair was in her eyes, it did not properly conceal her vision of you, your beautiful face staring at her with worried eyes as you sat from side of the screen. A crooked smile crawled along her face along with an empty cackle as she released her hair and sat up more straightly in her seat.
“You are so pretty.” She uttered, cackling afterwards before leaning her cheek against her palm as she gazed at you lovingly.
But you did not flush like you usually did when Sara commentated on your beauty, you instead look even more worried. You scanned her shivering body from what you could see from the barrier between the two of you before looking back at her, your hand gliding along the table surface towards the plastic screen.
“Sara...” You said softly, your eyes intensifying in their worry as your fingertips reached the plastic, tapping rhythmically against them as you continued to gaze at her. “Are you okay?”
“...Do I look okay?”
Instead of saying the words with a harsh bite, Sara instead lowered her arm and face to the table, resting her chin against her flat forearm with her eyes drifting towards your tapping arms.
tap. tap. tap. tap.
tap. tap. tap. tap.
She started tapping her own fingers in time with yours, matching their beat. The action made you sigh before you looked at her sadly.
“...No, you do not look okay.”
“...”
Sara didn’t say anything. She instead kept her focus on the tapping beat between your and her fingers.
tap. tap. tap. tap.
tap. tap. tap. tap.
“Is there not anything that the doctors can give you? A pill, a sedative, or something?” You asked, genuine concern in your voice.
...Laughter broke out of Sara’s mouth before she could say or do anything else. She simply couldn’t control it. She turned her head into the table and continued to laugh into it for a good few minutes before finally turning her head back to face you, your eyes wide in horror as Sara continued to cackle over your suggestion.
“Sorry baby...but who in the hell is going to give someone like me a drug for my nerves? They are the reason I am here in the first place.”
Sara had to admit that Moon Dongeun really did play her into her tricky little web despite their best efforts to not be caught by the damn black widow. When she had said that she had come for revenge, she was not joking and Sara was paying her apparent price for the stupid things they had done to her when they were in high school. The thought of the woman immediately made Sara’s smile disappear, the action not going unnoticed by you as you moved your hand to instead press it fully against the plastic screen, your palm pressed against it.
“Sara, I’m worried about you.”
“Aww...that’s sweet.” Sara teased, cackling again as she pressed her cheek against her forearm to gaze at you horizontally, her own hand moving to press against the plastic screen to cover yours.
So close and yet so far.
“Sara I’m serious.”
“So am I.”
“I can’t stand seeing you like this.” You finally confessed, moving your hand from the screen to instead press your fingers into the speaker wholes that were provided in the screen. Sara didn’t hesitate to move her own hand until her fingertips were finally touching yours.
Her tremors stopped for a small moment. Her body responding to the small hint of warmth that you provided to her, the only kind of relief that she could find in this prison.
“...If you hate seeing me like this, why do you come?”
“Because I miss you.” You said immediately, your finger tips tightening over the edges of the plastic holes in the screen.
Sara gazed at you intensely, her previous lighthearted staring evaporated as she critically analyzed you from where you sat until finally softening her feature. Her tremors were subsided for the first time in weeks since she had been in here. For one moment, her mind finally felt at peace, and her body warmed at the single touch that your fingertips gave hers.
“I miss you too.”
“You will get out soon Sara, I know it.”
“...I hope so.”
Choi Hye-jeong
The cut on her lip still stung when she spike, and her left eye was almost completely swollen shut, making it difficult for her to even see you as you sat in the visitors seat while she sat on the opposite end. You didn’t even try to mask the gasp that had left your lips the second you saw her enter the room, the sound of it already breaking what was left of her already broken heart, which has been stomped on, cut, and bruised during her whole situation her.
Hyejeong felt like she was going to die. Death was quite possibly the only way that she would be able to save herself from this hell.
That damn Moon Dongeun...she completely ruined her life. She should be married by now, she should be on her honeymoon, being lavished in money and luxury while she would eagerly be awaiting to return to the city to be able to spend the rest of her time with you. She had it perfectly planned in her head, it was almost achieved too, but then she found herself suddenly being handcuffed by the police and led to a police vehicle and taken to the station for intense police questioning.
Hyejeong literally thought that her whole word was grinding to the edge of the universe when the words ‘accessory to murder’ had left the detective’s lips, along with the name of Sohee, who has been dead for practically eighteen years. Hyejeong immediately denied everything, refusing to accept any responsibility that Yeonjin had created when she decided to end the life of the high school student. But apparently there was proof for Hyejeong’s participation in the murder...even though there was no possible way for her to be involved with it because she was not there.
It had then dawned on Hyejeong that she was being framed by none other Moon Dongeun, the promise of revenge by the woman immediately ringing true as Hyejeong found herself being transported to a cell for the night until she was eventually transported to the prison. By the time she was eventually given the opportunity to call you, she had already been shipped off to the prison had been exposed to the multiple initiations of the women's prison.
“Hyejeong...” You uttered her name in such an anguished voice, the sound of it sending a wave of hurt and humiliation over her body as she ducked her head to avoid looking at you. “W-Why...”
“Because the people here are sick.” Hyejeong answered, not bothering to look up at you as she did not want to see the full damage to her face so up close.
“Hyejeong...” She heard a tremor in your voice and she glanced up to see tears forming in your eyes, your bottom lip trembling as you stared at her with a heartbroken expression. You lifted your hand and pressed it against the screen, your palm face her, almost as if you were trying to reach out to her. “Hyejeong...I am so sorry.”
“Don’t look at me with those eyes.” Hyejeong snapped, not reacting to your reaching hand as she ducked her head even further, her own hands tightened into fists in her lap as humiliation and pain continued to wash over her despite her attempts to stop it. “I can’t stand it.”
“Hyejeong-”
“Stop pitying me.” Hyejeong ordered, lifting her head to glare at you but then quickly returning it to its previous position in order to continue hiding it from you. She heard you tap against the screen.
“I’m not pitying you.”
“Yes you are.”
“No I’m not Hyejeong. I’m heartbroken for you.”
“That isn’t any better.”
“Dammit Hyejeong, you don’t deserve this!”
Your raised voice made Hyejeong raise her head to gaze at you in surprise, not expecting you to raise your voice so suddenly. You were breathing heavily on your end, tears running down your cheeks with your bottom lip still trembling. With her eyes on you, you swallowed thickly before adjusting your hand on the plastic screen so it was not directly between the two of you. It was instead resting on the lower part of the screen where it met the table, your arm laying flat against its surface.
“Out of all five of you, you are not the one who deserves to be in bars. It is all four of the others who deserve to be here. Not you.”
Hyejeong knew that she did not deserve to be here. While she was a part of Yeonjin’s gang when they were in high school, she was not the one who had done all the stuff to Sohee, Dongeun and all the others. She was just watching. That is what she did best. She was not actually the one who had participated in all the stupid things they did when they were kids. She was not the one who killed someone, it was Yeonjin. So it was complete injustice to her to be locked up like some kind of animal, beaten down constantly while the rest of the others were outside living their lives.
None of them even bothered to see her, which clearly told her that she was no longer obligated to save them from the wrath of Dongeun anymore.
“...I hate them.” Hyejeong confessed, finally moving her hand to cover yours against the screen. Your expression grew dark as you nodded.
“I hate them too.”
“I hope Dongeun will bring hell on all four of them. In fact, she can take them to hell with her.”
“And I will get you out of here Hyejeong. If it is the last thing I’ll do, I will get you out of here.”
“...”
Hyejeong tensed her fingers as they pressed against yours against the screen, her own hand aching from her defensive attempts during her time here, her knuckles covered in bruises which you had not yet noticed.
“...Please take care of me.”
“I will Hyejeong, I will.” You promised, it being the only form of comfort that Hyejeong could take while she was trapped in this hellhole.
She hoped that Yeonjin and the others burned in hell for this...and from what she has learnt so far, Moon Dongeun was effective in her revenge so she could only imagine what she had in store for those other assholes. Guess she did have a small comfort to think of during her time here. Hopefully it was be as good in person as it is in her head. Guess she will have to wait to find out.

Yandere Jeon Jae-Joon x reader headcanons
Jae-Joon’s attachment to you runs deep, and he considers you his—no one else is allowed to even come close to you.
His “love” is not pure but rather something that ties you to him—he believes you’ll be lost without him and works hard to make you believe it too.
The moment another person—especially a man—shows interest in you, Jae-Joon becomes unhinged.
He will make the person disappear entirely, seeing any form of attention you get as a threat.
If he needs to get violent, he will get violent.
He has no problem getting his hands dirty.
Jae-Joon doesn’t openly threaten you, but his words and actions carry an underlying menace.
He’ll make it clear that your life could be ruined if you step out of line, reminding you that he holds power over you.
If you ever question his behavior, he’ll twist the narrative to make you feel like you’re imagining things or overreacting. His gaslighting skills ensure that you remain uncertain about your own feelings and perceptions.
While he loves you, he also enjoys the power he holds over you. He doesn’t shy away from making you fear him if it means keeping you in line. His tone can shift from affectionate to chillingly threatening in seconds.
This was a request but I lost it.

✨️ The Glory Part 2 ✨️ “The Glory Part 2” has unveiled new character posters and a teaser ! The newly released posters for Part 2 feature Moon Dong Eun with each of eight characters who are deeply intertwined with her. Among the characters in solidarity with Moon Dong Eun are Joo Yeo Jeong, Kang Hyeon Nam (Yeom Hye Ran), and Ha Do Yeong (Jung Sung Il). In each of the three posters, Moon Dong Eun stands on the right side and faces them either with a warm gaze or a gentle smile. The texts on the top-center of the posters that read, “She is my salvation,” “Happy I started to dream,” and “I don’t like saying that I don’t know something, but I don’t know yet,” seem to describe the thoughts of Joo Yeo Jeong, Kang Hyun Nam, and Ha Do Young, respectively, regarding Moon Dong Eun. On the other hand, Moon Dong Eun’s attitude and gazes toward the perpetrators group consisting of Park Yeon Jin (Lim Ji Yeon), Jeon Jae Joon (Park Sung Hoon), Lee Sa Ra (Kim Hieora), Choi Hye Jeong (Cha Joo Young), and Son Myeong Oh (Kim Geon Woo) are completely different. Moon Dong Eun looks down at them from above with her hands clutched to different body parts of each character. The texts aligned in the mid-center of the posters that read, “Your soul, which laughed in joy throughout all of it,” “Those leering eyes,” “The hand that mocked and broke others,” “The lips that laughed at others’ misfortune,” and “The feet that were eager to inflict pain on others,” seem to describe Moon Dong Eun’s feelings of resentment, anger, and revenge toward the perpetrators who made her life miserable and made her spend all her life scheming her revenge. #theglory #theglory2 #theglorypart2 #더글로리파트2 #songhyekyo #송혜교 #leedohyun #이도현 #limjiyeon #임지연 #yumhyeran #염혜란 #parksunghoon #박성훈 #jungsungil #정성일#kimhieora #김히어라 #chajooyoung #차주영 #kimgunwoo #김건우 #characterposters #drama #kdrama #koreandrama #dramakorea #fayrafeed (di My Imagination) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoetoNyvbnt/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

you know, april was an insane month for me, between my thesis and making my final senior plans (oh my god, the fact that i now only have maybe a few more weeks of being an undergrad is still so bonkers to me), but! here’s some things that i somehow watched/read/consumed over the past month!
also, a note: i actually rewatched a lot of things this month, but i didn’t include them on this list just because then this post would be outrageously long. here’s my film diary on letterboxd though, if you want to get a look at what i was actually watching. also how badly i was managing my time/how much i was stress-rewatching things in general, oops.
kdrama:
my absolute boyfriend
okay, so this drama was actually a bit of a surprise to me, mostly in that i did not expect to like this show at all, if only because the whole premise (young woman named da da (minah) is sent a robot boyfriend) isn’t exactly my style, but yeo jin goo plays the main love interest, so you know i have to watch it. and needless to say, i was pleasantly surprised? it’s definitely very silly, but sometimes you need a silly show! and what’s nice is that this show doesn’t take itself seriously either! it fully embraces how comedic the whole thing is, and while i think there’s still some stuff that could improve, i ultimately really enjoyed this show. the entire cast was lovely, and actually, outside of jin goo, i realized that i also wanted to see more of bang min ah’s dramas, just because i found her acting a lot stronger than i thought it would be? and also, i guess on another note, it was kinda cool to see what her life as a special effects makeup artist was. she seemed to really know what she was worth, which is always such an admirable trait in a rom-com like this one.
the relationship between da da and yeong goo (the robot) was also so . . . admittedly, the beginning was a bit rough, but i think that like the way yeong goo grows on min ah and eventually becomes someone truly worth loving, their relationship also genuinely made me smile quite a lot. that said though, the last few episodes made me cry so much. like, so much. i was inconsolable. i didn’t expect to feel so many fuckign things over this show but i somehow did like what the fuck--
lost
there are certain shows that i just think came for me at the right time, and lost is one of them. i actually started this show a while ago, but then i stopped because i was distracted by life things, but i got around to finishing this show, and it made me feel a lot of things. basically, this show is about a 40 year old woman named lee bu jeong (jeon do yeon) and a 27 year old man named lee kang jae (ryoo joon yeol). they’ve both suffered through lots of hardships in their lives, and somehow, they wind up connecting with each other. it’s genuinely very touching, and i suppose it says a lot that the literal translation of this show i think is called disqualified souls, which in itself is fitting: bu jeong is a woman who feels like she’s accomplished nothing in her life, and kang jae feels the same.
as such, you can imagine that this show is pretty heavy--and it is. lots of trigger warnings for discussions of suicide especially, just because that’s a pretty big theme throughout the show. that said, i think this show really examined depression and suicide in a way that was honest. sad, but not necessarily for the sake of being truthful and also for the sake of demonstrating that you can eventually heal from the pains of your own life.
circle
so immediately after finishing my absolute boyfriend, i decided to watch this show. i started the first episode way back in september or so, but then i got distracted by other dramas, and then i wound up watching this whole thing in a few days. it’s relatively short, only 12 episodes, so it’s something you can easily watch over a week and a half, and it’s so concisely, smartly written that honestly, i kind of wish i spent longer to digest it all.
but anyways: this is a sci-fi kdrama following a set of twins--kim woo jin (yeo jin goo) and kim beom gyun (ahn woo yeon), who thinks they encountered an alien ten years ago. the kdrama also follows the story of kim joon hyuk (kim kang woo), a detective 20 years in the future in a dystopian society. i won’t go much more into the plot because this is one of those shows that i think you really need to watch this show with little information going in. in any case, this show was so . . . it was so good. lots of twists and turns, but not twisty and turny for the sake of being twisty and turny--like, there’s genuinely smart writing in this show, and it’s so concisely written and i think it really got at the core of the beauty of the sci-fi genre. 10/10 recommend, esp if you feel like you haven’t seen anything good in the sci-fi genre lately.
romance is a bonus book
sigh. i really, really, really wanted to like this kdrama, but tbh, it was such a struggle for me. i’m not willing to say that it’s because this kdrama is bad--i think it’s more like i couldn’t really connect with all the themes in this show, and the characters just felt very far away from me. (like, there wasn’t anyone i could relate to at all. i think this was one of the first kdramas where i was very conscious that this was, in fact, a kdrama in their own bubble of a world. and i say this as someone who watched a sci-fi kdrama this month. the sci-fi kdrama made me feel more grounded in the characters than this one.)
but who knows! maybe one of you guys will like it. basically, it’s about this recently divorced woman named kang dan i (lee na young), who’s trying to get back into the workforce after being a housewife/mom for so long. she manages to secure a job at her friend cha eun ho (lee jong suk)’s publishing house, and the show kinda mostly revolves around the goings-on of this publishing house, as well as their growing relationship.
i mean . . . i dunno. i think i really appreciated each of the leads for who they were, but i couldn’t really get myself invested in the relationship, and i really wanted to! maybe it’s just a me problem, but i couldn’t really feel anything between the two of them outside maybe a solid friendship. that said though, their characters--as well as the side characters!--were all cute and very funny, so i suppose that’s a plus. if anything, i think this show would have worked better as a genuine slice-of-life instead of anything else (kind of like hello, my twenties! or be melodramatic, which i haven’t actually watched, but that’s the only other show i know that’s kind of about struggling with the obstacles that come with being a certain age). kind of a shame that this show was as a disappointment as it was for me--maybe i’ll appreciate this show better when i’m older, but for now, it was kinda . . . eh.
law school
so, i started this school back in like . . . september or october, but as i was applying to law schools at the time, i couldn’t bring myself to watch this show because i just felt all-around wistful and pretty crappy about myself. thankfully, now that i’m officially going to law school, i decided my heart was okay enough to resume this show! and i’m glad i did!
basically, this show is about a group of law school students trying to put together the pieces of the death of a professor. if you’re at all familiar with the show how to get away with murder, there are somewhat similar vibes, but i think law school kinda becomes pretty different outside of the similarity with the “murdered professor” vibe. the characters are very much root-worthy, particularly kang sol a (ryoo hye young) and the quiet han joon hwi (kim beom). i also really enjoyed the aspect about what it means to practice and respect the law, and it def. tickled my brain in a very satisfactory way. however, i will say that the plot can get just a little bit convoluted sometimes, and there were a few parts where things just seemed to get so tangled in each other that i wasn’t sure what was actually going on (so many plots, so many things happening), but ultimately, i enjoyed it!
movies:
shoot me in the heart
so i started this movie back in december, but i didn’t get around to really watching much more until this month, and i’m glad that i did. this movie is based off the korean novel of the same name, following the story of two young men stuck in a mental institution: soo myung (yeo jin goo) and seung min (lee min ki). the mental institution is absolutely brutal, and that’s my warning for the film--it really shows how terribly screwed up mental institutions are, and i am very much so hoping that hopefully, korean mental institutions--and mental institutions around the world in general--are much better now (although i’m still unsure of that).
basically, over the course of this movie, soo myung and seung min grow closer. seung min tries time and time again to break out of the mental institution, and soo myung, who is very much so a model patient, gets caught in his gravity. i won’t spoil the rest of the movie, but it left my heart aching--but i think more in a good way than in a bad way. it made me think a lot about what it means to live, and what it means to live the life that you want instead of living for others, and it was just a lot to process, but in a good way. that said though, if you’re mentally in a vulnerable place right now, i would hold off on watching this movie, just because the first hour or so is pretty brutal, even if there’s happier moments spread out in between.
the long way home
so, i’m not the biggest fan of war movies, in part because of the violence and in part because sometimes they just seem to drag on for a while. but i wanted to watch most of yeo jin goo’s filmography this month, and so i wound up watching the long way home on the same day i finished shoot me in the heart, and boy oh boy oh boy--
basically, the long way home is a part comedy, part typical action/drama war film about the korean war. nam bok (sol kyung gu) is a solider on the south korean side, who needs to deliver this top secret document. one thing leads to another, and he runs into young gwang (yeo jin goo), a student-turned-soldier who winds up getting ahold of this document. now, they’re stuck together in a tank and the movie kind of takes off from there.
oh man. i wasn’t sure how i was going to feel about this movie, just because i personally can’t get into comedies about wartime, but this movie somehow really delivered? and i think particularly the last act of the movie (last 30 minutes) really dug into the whole thesis of the film, which is basically that war is unpleasant for everyone, and specifically in the case of the korean war, when families and loved ones were all split because of this tragedy, it’s . . . a lot. and so i liked this film a lot more than i thought i would.
room no. 7
after watching this movie, i joked that there should be a category of movies called “it’s not very good, but shin ha kyun really acted with his whole heart as always, and therefore it deserves one more star than it’s actually worth”, and that’s kinda how i felt with room no. 7. it’s a dark comedy about doo sik (shin ha kyun), the owner of a dvd room (ie. couples come in, choose a dvd to select, and then go to one of the back rooms to netflix and chill). he’s desperate to sell this place, and his part timer tae jung (doh kyung soo, yes, that doh kyung soo of exo) is desperate to pay off his debt. basically, just two guys who very much so need money. and then things get complicated when uh . . . well, now there’s a dead body.
like, to be honest, i actually really liked the first and middle portions of this movie--but the ending kinda ? ? ? idk, i feel like it could have gone a lot better by the ending. it’s relatively lighthearted, and the humor’s a bit crass, but y’know, i did enjoy it for shin ha kyun.
on your wedding day
i actually started this movie back in january i think, but i got around to finishing it this month, and i’m glad i did. basically, it’s about hwang woo yeon (kim young kwang), who falls in love with seung hee (park bo young) in high school. they wind up getting closer before seung hee moves away--and then, because he misses her so much, woo yeon winds up studying hard enough to go to the same college as her. and basically, this movie sort of follows their relationship and all the highs and lows that comes with first love.
let me just say that i used to be really, really cynical of the whole concept of someone getting so much energy because of a first love--until i myself was in a similar position. watching this movie was a bit bittersweet for me in that way, in seeing woo yeon go through his life with very little focuses outside of seung hee--but this isn’t to say that seung hee is, like, an object in the way that a lot of movies have objects/manic pixie dream girls. seung hee is very much so real, someone who has a lot of struggles and burdens and is very down-to-earth, and the way she responds to woo yeon’s feelings is incredibly realistic, i think, in that woo yeon is seung hee’s first love as well.
but you know, some people are lucky enough for their first love to be their only love.
hot young bloods
okay, so . . . this movie was fun. like, middling sort of fun. lots of people being beat up (good grief so many people getting beat up). basically, this movie is about a bunch of high schoolers during the 80s, lots of gang activity, etc. things get kind of awry when this new girl from seoul so hee (lee se young) moves to the little town. local flirt joong gil (lee jong suk) makes it his mission to charm so hee, while the local bad girl-slash-ex-childhood-bestie young sook (park bo young) tries to prevent this from happening. that’s a pretty simple summary of the movie--when in reality, this movie was an oddly compelling look at messy relationships in high school, backstabbing, betrayal, friendships, etc.
okay so ngl, it was kinda a forgettable movie for me. interesting because i don’t think i’ve seen lee jong suk play more comedic rules in a hot second, and i was actually impressed how he could pull slightly more comedic faces . . . and park bo young, of course, was impressive as always. it always surprises me how she can play someone equal parts badass and soft, depending on the character she’s acting.
anyways, did i think it was fun? yeah. maybe not my fave, but it was nice, and i did like the ending, so!
sympathy for lady vengeance
this movie has been on my to watch list forever, ever since i watched sympathy for mr. vengeance back a few months ago. directed by the famous park chan wook, this film is about a woman named lee geum ja (lee young ae), who, 13 years ago, was accused of kidnapping and murdering a little boy. now out of prison, she’s out to get revenge for the real person who committed this crime.
i won’t let myself summarize this movie any more than that--i think this is one of those movies that you kind of have to watch without knowing much more than this is a film about revenge, and it’s so . . . good. like, everything, from the writing to the acting (lee young ae, iconic queen as always, it’s no surprise this is one of her biggest roles ever) to the camerawork (god . . . not to sound pretentious, but i think this might be one of my favorite films solely for the coloring and god god god you have to watch it to understand what’s going on it’s so good)
i think what i adored most about this movie though was that besides the fantastic acting and writing, i was also really surprised by how the violence wasn’t . . . quite as explicit and in your face as it was in sympathy for mr. vengeance (which is a fantastic film as well, and there were actually a few callbacks to that movie here). there’s def. still some blood, but it’s def. a different vibe, and tbh, it’s just .. . . so good. i can fully say that this is now one of my favorite films, and that’s saying quite a lot.
dunkirk
i’m really not the biggest fan of war movies, but while i was at home for break, my brother wanted to watch this, so i did. . . and i was pleasantly surprised? dunkirk is about the evacuation of the allied forces on the beach of dunkirk in france. unlike a lot of world war ii movies i’ve seen, dunkirk is very . . . quiet. and tense. so tense. i was so stressed every single second of the film, which i think was the greatest strength here. i mean, i might even rewatch this movie on my own, if only because i really want to digest exactly how . . . nervewracking every single scene is.
stoker
dude this movie is so good. so good. and so creepy. and so good. brilliant.
i’ve been making a point to watch all of park chan wook’s films, and so i decided to give stoker a go. and god, i loved it. i don’t want to spoil it because i basically knew nothing of the film when i was going in, but i’m familiar with park chan wook’s other films, so i knew it was going to be fucked up. but in an excellent way.
stoker is basically about a young girl named india (mia wasikowska), whose father tragically died in a car accident. following the wake of her father’s death, her uncle charlie (matthew goode) comes to stay with india and her mother (nicole kidman). india’s totally caught off-guard . . . because she never even knew she had an uncle.
this film is just . . . it’s insane. it’s good. it’s insane. it’s so good. so good. i can’t talk much more about this film because i really don’t want to spoil it--but oh god, it was excellent. 1000/10.
books:
yolk by mary hk choi
i bought this book on an absolute whim, mostly because the cover was so pretty and also because i apparently follow mary hk choi on instagram (although i don’t remember when). but in any case, a book about korean-american sisters and their on- and off-relationship? the protagonist being kind of a disaster? (because yes. please do give me more korean-american characters who didn’t go to ivy league schools to become doctors or lawyers or business people, but instead wound up being art students who live in a ratty apartment and have poor taste in men and also have a slew of issues but just don’t know how to deal with them because see: grew up in a korean-american family.)
bro. i cried so much. i cried so much reading this book in ways that i didn’t think were possible. i still don’t really know how to put my feelings into words, but this book is about jayne baek, whose world becomes much more complicated when her estranged older sister june confesses she’s been diagnosed with cancer. over the course of roughly 400 pages, you get so much about their relationship, that bizarre “i love you, i hate you” kind of relationship that comes with siblings, as well as just how messy both of them are . . . but specifically jayne. god, it’s been a while since i’ve met a character who’s so insanely messy but still understandable, and that’s jayne. do be wary because there’s a lot of references to jayne’s battle with bulimia (that’s just one of her many issues).
god. i dunno. this book was weirdly personal to me in so many ways (the korean-american experience, but also the specific kind of korean-american experience jayne goes through . . . with all the mental illness and the ups and downs of her relationship with her sister . . .) god. it’s just all lovely. i cried. i think this might be the first book i’ve ever read that genuinely made me cry as much as i did. highly recommend, 100/10.

Melo is My Nature Review
Well, as usual, I’m late to the party! I picked up 2019′s Melo is my Nature/ Be Melodramatic with some trepidation since I was (am!) still smarting a bit from the disappointment that’s Hospital Playlist S2, and I wasn’t quite ready for another.
I’m so glad I gave it a chance! While it isn’t a “perfect” series- in the nature of the world *sigh*- its combination of quirky, clever, self-aware humour and heartfelt performances won me over from the first episode.
More thoughts under the cut (along with some spoilers)
I’m very fond of ensemble dramas that love their characters, and “Melo is my Nature” does that very well. Perhaps a little too well, to the point that you feel the writers letting themselves be more than a little indulgent during the middle stretch of the episodes. But I can’t complain too much, because yes, I know the feeling! “Side characters” that refuse to stay in the lane and take over the narrative are also my favourites, as a writer and a viewer. I loved, loved, loved Lee Joo-bin as the flighty-but-amazingly-smart Lee So-min; that felt like such a delightful clap-back against the prevailing sentiment that often goes against young, successful women and the ridiculous levels of expectations of them, in how they need to perform gender and femininity and smartness. I loved that (like Emma! There’s a lot of Jane in this series!) the writers managed to make her likeable even though they never disregard her flaws or its consequences.
Another performance/ character that I totally adored was Baek Ji-won as Jeong Hye-jeong, the industry maven who may be (?) a nod to Kim Eun-sook, I suppose! I was afraid at some point that they’d just trash her character, by making her a little too ridiculous in an unkind way, but I found some of the loveliest scenes involved her- like the one where she tells Jin-joo to do the work, but not be too successful. In the end, there was a love and fondness for her, a genuine empathy, that really was core to what made this show so successful.
Shout out also to two of the weirdest characters I’ve watched, but thoroughly loved- Heo Joon-seok as Director Dong-gi & Lee Ji-min as Nutritionist (?) Da-mi. I absolutely adored that the only wedding in this series is between these two, and they do it in a completely predictably-unusual way.
Re: the “main” characters, I loved all of them without exception, though some more than the others :) One of the things I love about the show is how real and present the three female leads feel; they feel like whole, entire people rather than caricatures of them, even when the show reaches almost unusual levels of quirky. I love that a through-line of the narrative is how important women’s labour is- to themselves. The work they do, which is acknowledged as a part of their identity rather than just something they do to pay bills (though of course there’s acknowledgement of that aspect too!), their hunger to do it well and for it to matter- all of that is portrayed in a way that’s charming but still taken very seriously. And the way you know that its taken seriously is in the things they focus on- how Oh Jin-joo struggles to write alone, and how Han-joo’s learning to be someone’s mentor while struggling with her own insecurities, and how lost Eun-jung feels, when work which was supposed to give her purpose fails her in a time of crisis, and how unmoored she feels without it.
Re: the romance- I’m someone predisposed to dislike heterosexual romance, especially at the present moment, so it’s always with a great deal of hesitation that I start watching shows that I know have a large romance component. It’s always a bit of a coin toss for me whether the show will end up making me hate the romance or just about tolerate it. I rarely expect to *like * it. So “Melo is my Nature” was a pleasant surprise! This is one of the few series where I felt the writers put in the work to sell the “main romance” of the show. You get to know the Oh Jin-joo and Beom-soo in sharply etched sketches before they move into the romance part (with a lot of tongue-in-cheek meta humour about the formulaic nature of tv romances). I genuinely felt that thrill of “oh this could go platonic or romantic and I would like either” slowly ease into “oh my god these two are MEANT TO BE”, because the Romance is clearly in the all the ways they are NOT meant to be, but also, very, very definitely are. DELICIOUS. Just my cup of Jane Austen in a different context/ time.
Through most of the show though, my heart was divided between two characters- Jeon Yeo-bin’s stellar Eun-jung and Han Ji-eun’s pitch perfect Han-joo. Jeon Yeo-bin brought edginess, dark humour and a deep, almost- inconsolable grief to Eun-jung. Some of the stand out scenes of the entire series are hers: the moment where she watches herself on video talking to an imaginary person, and the moment she breaks down in front of the psych after talking about her mother. Watching this show, it really felt like- oh, she’s a star. Consider me sold on her for life (though, no, I will not watch Vincenzo unless there’s a Hong Cha-young supercut out there, in which case, please put it in my eyeballs now)
Han Ji-eun, imho, actually pulled off the toughest performance, because I think Han-joo’s strength of character is so often concealed by her “silliness” (in a similar vein to So-min’s), and that often makes her someone you’d overlook or not take seriously. But god, she broke my heart, from the scene in the first episode where she’s sitting alone at a table after a rough day and watching her horrible ex live his best life to the hilarious and excruciating “Oppa” scene, to the one where her kid is quite unconsciously cruel to her in the way kids can be. I was disappointed in the way they dropped the “reveal” about whom she’s dating in the last episode- not that I wanted her to be in an romance with Jae-hoon, god, NO- but it felt quite clunky. This is one of the two complaints I have with the show.
The second one is that starting from the middle, episodes began to noticeably feel like scenes/ sketches spliced together. Each scene is, within itself, perfectly written and performed, but the seams between the stories began to show. I felt one of the main reasons was that Eun-jung’s trauma tonally felt like it belonged in another show, but instead it had to get stitched into the mostly happy/ frothy storylines of the other characters. Sure, we had Hae-joon and his girlfriend’s terrible relationship, but the show had an easier time integrating that by way of Han-joo.
That said, I love how clever this show is! I love that it loves its own cleverness and can’t resist the urge to show it off- from all the meta references, in-universe jokes, and oh, that entire episode devoted to farting, complete with a song about it, which I think maybe my fave episode of the series. A great look at the place of performance in intimate relationships (and how the women bear the burden of it more than the men), but coming at it from a place of compassion and humour rather than anger. Love that choice, for the show and us!
I think @rain-hat mentioned in a comment here or twitter that Melo feels like a part of a triangle of shows along with Run On and Search : WWW. I’m inclined to swap out Run On for Rookie Historian, or huh, maybe change the triangle for a quadrangle? Rookie Historian dares to imagine a past where our protagonist is (mostly) unshackled by the patriarchy and in the “modern” ending to its main heterosexual romance, reminds us that people have always found ways to find joy and thrive outside the rigid bounds of society. Search: WWW goes about it in the opposite direction- placing us in a present/future where the patriarchy doesn’t and hasn’t ever mattered. Melo, I think, doesn’t quite do that, but in common with both these shows, it refuses to focus on the trauma of living under such structural violence, and instead talks about how we all (irrespective of gender) can find a way to remain unbroken by it. And while both Search:WWW and Melo do well at queer-platonic relationships as an alternate to the heterosexual project, it’s Run On, I think, which goes furthest there- firstly because though ostensibly structured around a het romance, that romance turns out to be falling in love with yourself/ loving yourself; secondly because it’s most explicitly queer in the choices that the characters make and the lives that they choose for themselves- Min-joo & May are each others darlings and will be for life, Yeong-hwa and Ki Seon-gyeom are allowed a tenderness in their friendship that feels like an explicit repudiation of toxic masculinity, and of course, you have May being asexual, but not aromantic, and Goh Ye-jun’s whole arc of accepting himself as a gay man, and finding acceptance of that identity from others.
Anyway! tl;dr would recommend (and have recommended!) Melo is my Nature to anyone fond of women, clever story telling and also ridiculously happy songs.

chapter summary: there are too many zeros for namjoon to decline
“yoongi warned me about this”, namjoon says while drawing lines across his coffee mug. you roll your eyes, clearly annoyed by your therapist. of course, he connected the dots as soon as you asked for his friend’s number.
“he warned you of getting a hefty tip? maybe even playing your own mixtapes in front of the music elite? in front of the kim seokjin?”, you answer with a sarcastic bite in your voice.
now namjoon is staring at you, calculating silently in his head. after a second to think, he responds.
“no, he warned me about dj-ing at your crush’s wedding while you’re coping with your shrink on the dancefloor… slowly moving your arms in chicken wing motions.”
you laugh at his description, surprised by the accuracy.
“don’t laugh… he had a whole diorama about this.”
your laughter is growing in volume as you try to imagine how yoongi glued wings onto a paper version of you.
“so… these few zeros won’t change your mind?”, you say and slide one of jungkook’s business cards across the table. your new barista friend takes the high-quality paper with caution. but then his eyes widen at the five numbers scribbled across your best friend’s name.
“no way”, he breathes, “this could finance my whole audition tape.”
you smirk at him, glad that taehyung didn’t lie to you when you asked him about the needed budget to audition. there is some pride in your posture, pleased at your wit.
“so, i can set up a meeting?”, you wonder out loud. the mocha in front of you is getting cold and your time is running away from you by the minute.
namjoon keeps staring at his payment, not fully grasping the reality of your offer.
“turn it around, joon”, you whisper. it’s the final blow as the barista sees the phone number on the other side. seokjin’s name is scribbled underneath with a winking smiley.
you’ve got yourself a wedding dj.
**
“i don’t know why we have to get another dj. what’s wrong with jae?”, jungkook mutters as he helps you out of your jacket. the candlelight inside this restaurant is warming your skin, a much-needed warmth because of the missing sleeves of your black dress.
you can hear your best friend sucking in a deep breath, his eyes burning holes into your bare shoulders. but when you turn around to catch his eyes, jungkook is looking at the tip of your nose.
“you look beautiful, _____”, he says in a distant tone. there is no emphasis in his words, but still jungkook doesn’t lie. maybe he forgets stuff, maybe he hides some information. but jungkook never lies. he didn’t say he baked the muffins – you just… assumed.
“really, ____”, your best friend repeats and hands your jacket to the waiter next to you. you smile at him in thanks.
“right back at you, handsome”, you say cheekily and pat his suit jacket. the dark green velvet looks painted on his toned arms and you can’t help the blush coloring your face.
there is a beat of silence before a cleared throat makes you flinch.
“your second party is already here, mr. jeon.” your waiter looks at you apologetic and you try to send him a reassuring smile in return.
“lead the way, then.” jungkook’s hand rests on your lower back as he pushes you in the dining room. his fingers press against your spine and you catch yourself leaning into his touch. it’s a maddening feeling, really. you try to collect your thoughts before spotting namjoon across the room.
“because taehyung slept with them", you whisper. jungkook snorts at your confession.
“who do you mean with them?”, he asks.
“both jae and the two follow-up candidates. he just… slept through the whole list of djs”, you explain. there is the tiniest part of you that is proud of taehyung for silently sneaking behind your back.
“why would he do that?”, jungkook whines into your ear and you snort at his pained expression.
“it was some kind of test. he listened to their playlists… one thing lead to another… it wasn’t pretty.”
“how ugly was it?”, he asks.
“you don’t wanne know… one of them cried on my voice mail two nights ago. like…ugly cried.”
“i should have been more help in the last months, _____. i’m sorry.”, jungkook confesses, recognizing what you had to deal with in the last months.
you squeeze his biceps, feeling the soft velvet under your fingertips.
“nah, you’ve got a company to run, jungkook. and you’re here now.”
“_______”, namjoon greats you warmly as you stop in front of the table. the barista looks so different not surrounded by the hefty smell of coffee. his green apron is gone – now he’s dressed in a beige colored cashmere sweater and some black pants. his hair his combed neatly and the dimples flashing you are making you smile softly at him. without missing a step, you hug him. the sweater smells faintly of vanilla and you feel yourself sniffing against his chest.
“glad you could make it, namjoon.” the musician and part time barista smirks down at you. why are all men around you that much taller? you need more yoongis in your life.
“yeah… kind of afraid to get another powerpoint in my inbox.” you snort. nobody values your powerpoint skills enough.
“i adore her slides a lot”, your best friend offers from behind you. you flinch at his cold tone, not surprised to see his face matching his voice. jungkook always wears his emotions on his sleeves.
still, to see him this tense when meeting a new person worries you. taking a step away from namjoon you move closer to your past idol. jungkook takes your elbow and pushes you against his side instantly.
“why don’t you introduce us, _____?”, he orders while looking at your barista with distrust.
“of course”, you start and try to escape namjoon’s raised eyebrow at jungkook’s hands on you.
“jeon jungkook, meet kim namjoon, your newest wedding dj", you say with faked enthusiasm. only your recent therapy helps you suppress the jazz fingers you want to make as an ice breaker.
both men stare at each other in silence. you feel some curious glances at your back while your group just stands in the middle of an overpriced restaurant.
“nice to meet you, mr. jeon. congrats on your engagement”, namjoon says and bows to your friend. jungkook takes a second too long to respond, just letting the man bow in front of him. it’s a power move you don’t care for, so you use your elbow to poke him.
“ouch, ____”, he whines lowly, but bows as soon as he sees your hostile eyes.
“thank you, mr. kim.”
again, there is a tensed silence you do not understand. soon, the waiter saves the moment.
“why don’t we get you seated and then i can bring you a bottle of your favorite chardonnay on the house?”
you could kiss him right now, because both men sit down instantly as the waiter moves your seat for you.
“thank you”, you whisper and feel him smile at you reassuringly. then he is rushing away to get enough alcohol for this table.
“i didn’t know you two know each other”, jungkook says. there is accusation behind his words and you feel yourself shift on your seat. did you have plenty of times to tell him in the last two days that the newest candidate is a friend of yours? sure. did you take the easy way out and just… emailed him the info? maybe.
“it was in the folder i sent you yesterday”, you mutter. namjoon watches the two of you with interest just as jungkook nudges your shoulder.
“would have been nice for you to tell me in person, ____”, he says softly, no longer mad at you. he sees how tensed your shoulders are. jungkook doesn’t want you to feel uncomfortable. this joined wedding planning should be fun.
“how did you two meet?”, he asks, directed at the other male across from you.
“she went to one of my gigs”, namjoon explains and smiles at jungkook. you silently applaud his professionalism. first, he congratulated jungkook on his engagement, then the second comment leads straight to his musical work. and not a word about your shared friend, yoongi.
“you do music?”, jungkook asks, now more interested.
“remember the playlist from last weekend?”, you say and smile at the waiter filling your wine glass.
“the one during our movie night?”, jungkook asks and takes two ice cubes from the wine cooler to wordlessly mix them into your glass. he knows how much you like your white wine iced and watered. for the first few months of your friendship, you felt so out of place in jungkook’s world that you didn’t voice your preferences. then, during an outing with jimin at a grungy bar downtown, you shyly asked for extra ice. he still smiles at the memory.
“don’t call it a movie night. i haven’t seen us watch one movie in the last year”, you snort. most of the times seokjin makes a mean meal and your friends stuff themselves full of carbs. then you are all talking with rounded bellies, maybe someone demands a rematch on jungkook’s playstation.
“so, you played some of his songs last saturday?”, jungkook asks.
you nod at the memory. “yeah, it was the one where seokjin slutdropped in front of me.”
namjoon snorts at your words. “kim seokjin slutdropped to one of my songs? can i get that framed?”
now even jungkook smiles kindly at your barista. “i don’t think you need to. you’ll be able to see it with your own eyes at the wedding.”
after that the dinner is more enjoyable. you are gobbling at a hot cheese string of your lasagna when it happens:
jungkook is talking to namjoon, eyes gleaming as he tells him about the first dance.
“i really want it to be a remixed version of spring day”, he explains. “it was the first song i co-wrote for my group.” namjoon nods and scribbles a few words on his ipad.
“the remix from your third album?”, the dj asks. you are impressed by namjoon’s knowledge of bangtan. there is a fangirling part of you still feeling very protective of your favorite idols.
jungkook shakes his head. “nah man, it’s way too outdated. it was like… seven years ago. why don’t you play a bit with the sound?”
you have never seen a kid in your class as excited as namjoon right now. the barista looks like jungkook just gave him a disney all exclusive ticket. and maybe it is on the same level when a highly awarded idol lets you remix one of their song.
“you’d trust me with that?”, namjoon whispers. you munch on your cheesy treat as jungkook nods.
“obviously i’d check it out beforehand… but, your mixture sounds cool. it’s fresh. maybe you can even add some rap parts yourself?”
you push another spoonful of lasagna in your mouth while namjoon stutters in front of you. it’s like cinema without the popcorn.
“you want me to… add to your award-winning record?”, he whispers in awe at the former idol.
“why not? just try your best; if it’s not working out, we can just switch to an acoustic performance from the other members. maybe jimin can cover my high notes”, jungkook muses and looks at your full cheeks with a smile. you grin back at him, clearly happy with his trust in your friend.
“may i have yoongi help me with that?”, namjoon asks in excitement. your greasy smile drops from your lips as jungkook’s head moves back to namjoon, not noticing the dread in your face.
“huh?”
“you know, most of the times the two of us work on music together. yoongi is really, really good with lyrics.”
it’s like seeing an accident happening in slow motion. there is nothing you can do other than chew as fast as you can.
“yoongi?”, jungkook asks and the hot tomato sauce burns your throat as you swallow your food.
“yoongi, you know? _______'s plus one?”
______

hey hi helloo~ so,,,you kinda seem like you know lots of kdramas,,,,and i wanted to ask you,,,if you could recommend me some of your favorites? tbh anything would be fine kdjs it can be something where i can cry my heart and soul out or something really cute! that's totally up to you (but something where i can absolutely get emotionally invested in that it shatters my heart is what i probs need rn tbh 😩✊🏻)
this is my time to shine 🤓🤓🤓 i DEFINITELY CAN !!! esp for my favorite follower 😔💕 also this is gonna be pretty long bc i gave a lot of info for each drama so i’ll put a read more~!
_ MY PERSONAL FAVS _
go ho’s starry night- a chinese-korean collaboration drama starring snsd's yuri, kim youngkwang (the secret life of my secretary), and lee jihoon (legend of the blue sea) - go ho (yuri) is a dedicated worker who deals with her grumpy boss and quirky coworkers. she requests to be transferred to a different team, where she discovers her new boss is her ex-boyfriend, and then basically there forms a harem of 5 of her coworkers who all like her- super fluffy!! episodes are only about 15 minutes long each, and although there is angst, there's a lot more comedy and fluff. the relationship between the two main leads is adorable and had me squealing way more than once
put your head on my shoulder- a chinese drama starring fair xing (master devil do not kiss me) and lin yi- si tu mo is a bubbly girl who moves into a house only to find out that the owner's nephew (?), gu wei yi, is already living there, and the two end up living together. si tu mo is sweet and outgoing, while gu wei yi is quiet and intellectual- SO cute. although the plot seems cliche, the focus is not really on them living together, that's just what brings them together originally, and the main lead isn't the stereotypical "cold and super smart asshole" type, he's actually very sweet. there are a lot of episodes but i would definitely recommend watching this!
like- a korean webdrama that you can find on youtube starring kim yu an, kim kangmin (maybe, maybe not), yoo jungwoo (love after school), and seo ji hye- about a group of students who create a film club to make youtube videos and the dumb shit they get into, plus there's some romance, betrayal, and fuckboys. - so so so so cute honestly. the dynamic between the characters of the club is so cute and funny, plus the love triangle has me wheezing. also the asshole fuckboy gets what he deserves which is super satisfying. it hasn't finished airing yet, but so far it's really cute
failing in love- korean webdrama you can find on youtube starring son sang yeon (triple fling), yang hye ji, and shin yoon seop- about a group of high schoolers who deal with falling in love, crushes, rejection, etc.- ok so the summary i gave was pretty vague but that's because any more and i'd be exposing the whole plot. there is humor and fluff but also teenage angst, and the characters are all more complex than they first appear. i would highly recommend this show !!!
i have 3 boyfriends- short webdrama you can find on youtube starring kim ji eun, park sungwoo (produce 101 season 2 [that 30 year old dude who danced to rain's song OMG], moon jihoo, and lee jungsik - when la hi gets in a car accident and wakes up with amnesia she finds that she has 3 men all claiming to be her boyfriend.- OK LISTEN . this show is so funny and cute. let me just say: you MUST watch to the end. that's all i'll say. pLS WATCH
last minute romance- two episode drama special starring han seung yeon (age of youth) and lee seo won (the liar and his lover)- when baek se finds out she has terminal cancer and only has a short time to live, she desperately wants to complete her one bucket list item: date her favorite actor. it's then that she meets an aspiring actor who looks exactly like her favorite actor- so cute and very short, so you won't spend ages trying to finish. it is very fluffy, cute, and funny, but has an underlying tone of sadness because the main female lead has cancer and will eventually die. also her best friend is a monk??? the ending is bittersweet but very fitting
want more 19- a short webdrama you can find on youtube starring jung ha joon, sin gi hwan, jeon yoo rim, nam yoon soo, and lee jungha- a story of 5 friends in high school. A mutual crush, a one-sided love, and a rough patch for sweethearts, all taking place right around the end their senior year- OH GOD i can't breathe this drama is so cute. it had me squealing every single episode, and it's very lighthearted with hardly any angst
splash splash love- a two episode drama starring kim seulgi (queen of the ring) and highlight's doojoon (radio romance)- right before her ksat, danbi is transported to the past during a freak rain shower and is mistaken for a eunich (which, in korean, is the same word for high school senior) . due to her knowledge of future math, the king enlists her to teach him mathematics and they fall in love- a lowkey parody/remake of the kdrama love in the moonlight but if you added time travel into the mix and took out nearly all the angst. SO cute and funny, and has a happy but open type ending
something about 1 percent (2016)- korean drama starring jeon so min and ha seokjin (drinking solo)- lee jae in is an arrogant company heir, whose wealthy grandfather who decides to grant all his wealth to a kindly elementary school teacher. to only way for anyone else to get the money is for someone to marry her, but they devise a contract that changes it to date for 10 months. although they hate each other at first, they eventually fall in love- this drama is super cute and the kisses are AMAZING. there are crazy exes and all that but the couple's dynamic is super cute and they quickly warm up to each other
triple fling (s1)- a short choose-your-own-ending korean webdrama on youtube starring jung bomin, son sangyeon (failing in love), themanblk's jeongyou, and themanblk's eom sewoong- lee sehee accidentally becomes friends with the three most popular boys in school and ends up in a love square with them- alright im whipped for stuff like this so naturally i loved it. i also really liked how viewers could choose their own ending as for which boy she chose. there is a second season that i haven't seen yet that focuses on another girl in ANOTHER love square (containing one of the guys from sehee's love square) in which it shows which boy she actually did choose (and it was my favorite so . yay!)
weightlifting fairy kim bok joo- a korean drama starring lee sungkyung (cheese in the trap) and nam joohyuk (who are you: school 2015)- a drama about a female weightlifter who falls in love. persuing the relationship would jeopardize her weightlifting, and focusing on weightlifting would jeopardize her relationship with her crush. she and her group of friends deal with one-sided crushes, athletic pressure, and self-love.- i watched this drama in full in only two days, and loved it. seriously, it's funny, cute, sad, and just a generally AWESOME drama. plus it takes a lot of cliches and makes fun of them or turns them on their head
when you love yourself (s1)- a short webdrama you can find on youtube starring jung mingyu (sweet revenge 2) and saet byeol . - about a girl who is heavier than her classmates who struggles with self-love and self-acceptance, and along the way finds love- god. i can't even explain how much i loved this drama. the message is wonderful and there's no moment where she glows up and loses weight and then gets the guy's attention or anything: he simply loves her as who she is, no matter what weight she is, and is supportive. there's also an episode that focuses on the queen bee girl who also struggles with weight and self-love and it's just beautiful
after school: lucky or not (s1)- short drama starring 5urprise: kang tae oh (my first first love), seo kang joon (are you human too), gong myung (drinking solo), lee taehwan (w: two worlds), and yoo il, as well as kim so eun (our gab soon)- when so eun gets an invite to the choose-your-mission club, she meets 5 chaotic guys that she becomes friends with, but there's something they aren't telling her.- yes, there is a lil romance and a love triangle HOHO. ok but seriously this drama is the most crackheadery i've ever seen like. genuinely i was just wheezing so hard every episode because of the dumb sh*t the guys were doing and so eun's reaction. this drama seems dumb and funny at first, but there are emotional moments as well as some angst relating to the love triangle and the origin of the club. please do watch this show !!! (don't recommend season 2, though)
accidentally in love - a chinese drama starring amy sun (the eternal love), fiction guo, and ma li- chen qingqing, who is raised by her grandfather) is arranged to be married, but wants to find love on her own terms. on the day of the wedding, she runs away to the university her parents attended to find out more about their death. to hide from her grandfather, she changes her appearance drastically and enters university. her new deskmate turns out to be singer si tu feng, whom she has already run into and has gotten off on the wrong foot with- so this drama was longer than the ones i usually watch but it was worth it. it was cute and they didn't drag out the couple not getting together for ages like some dramas tend to do. the romance was super cute and the female lead's undeterred determination to march to her own drummer was amusing. the only thing i didn't like is that they didnt give the side couple enough screentime bc they were super cute too
my woofy poofy love / my dog-like dating- a short korean webdrama you can find on youtube starring chae ji an and kim do hoon (your imagination becomes reality)- a girl who has recently been cruelly dumped by her boyfriend brings a stray dog back to her home and wakes up to find that instead of a dog, there is a man! she happens to be looking for a roommate, and so this man (who can turn into a dog) becomes her new housemate- literally adorable. female lead is stunning and the relationship is so cute and fluffy and innocent, but the kiss is steamy as hell.
unrequited love (2019)- a chinese drama starring zhu yan man zi and zhao shun ran- a story of a girl who has secretly loved the same boy for 10 years, but he doesn't know she exists, until one day when they meet in college. so begins their love story, but things become more complicated because of other people- ok so like . damn i love this couple. this drama is really cute but has its fair share of angst, so don't expect an easy ride the whole way through. very cute though !!_ MORE DRAMA RECS _
a love so beautiful- a chinese drama starring shen yue (meteor garden) and hu yi tuan- chen xiaoxi has liked her neighbor jiangchen onesidedly for years, and continues to like him despite his seeming disinterest. but her determination and bubbly personality, as well as a romantic threat starts to cause him to fall for her- aight so . i feel like this drama was dragged out a little bit longer than necessary and then the ending was slightly rushed but!! it WAS a great and super cute drama
ok to be sensitive (s1)- a webdrama you can find on youtube starring kim da ye and kim youngdae (extraordinary you) and others im too lazy to put- focuses on feminist issues like sexism and sexual harassment in a college setting, which each episode focusing on one particular incident and the characters dealing with it- listen so like . this show had me emotional at some points bc of how amazing the message was. it dealt with sexual harassment, sexism, how females are expected to act, stalking, pressure to have sex... etc and basically every episode was like . you can stand up for yourself. you don’t have to “take it” just bc you’re a female, etc. also there was really cute romance uwu
ok to be sensitive (s2)- season 2 of otbs, also can be found on youtube, starring yoo hye in and lee shin young, as well as others but again im too lazy to list them all- same thing as season 1, but a different cast of main characters, and set in an office workplace. (original cast makes a cameo at the end)- the issues in season 2 were definitely a bit darker because it was set in a work place, where the main characters were worried about getting fired if they stood up for themselves, but the way things were handled was really admirable imo. also the male lead in this one is ABSOLUTELY adorable
go back diary- a 4 episode webdrama you can find on youtube starring kim ye ji and lee jong won (jaemin’s webdrama how to hate you)- about a boy who sees a girl at a karaoke bar (?) and instantly develops a crush on her. she then transfers to his school, and it tells the story of their love story after 10 years.- i’ll just say it right now. the whole drama was adorable except for the ending, which fucking sucked. literally was horrible. boycott episode 4 pls i was SO UPSET. otherwise, great webdrama
before we get married- taiwanese drama starring puff guo (just you; we got married w/ suju’s heechul) and jasper liu- tells the story of two people who already have partners and are planning to marry them, only to meet each other and fall in love- bro this show had so much angst i couldn’t even breathe lmfao. but the romantic scenes between the two leads were S T E A M Y let me TELL you.
love after school (s1)- korean webdrama that can be found on youtube starring park so eun and yoo jungwoo (like)- about a couple who fell in love in high school and their story, told from 5 years later when they meet again- i love love love this bitch. LOVE. season 2 ... we won’t speak of her lol. but season 1 is super cute and the ???? kiss at the end(ish)??? DEAD. literally anything with yoo jungwoo will destroy me but omg. it was fantastic
lucky romance- a korean drama starring hwang jung eum (she was pretty) and ryu joon yeol (reply 1988) - about a woman who believes wholeheartedly in superstitions meeting a man who believes only in science and mathematics, and their very chaotic love story- this show was so funny tbh. the main couple’s dynamic was HILARIOUS and even though they were literally complete opposites they worked so well together. warning: towards the end there’s that whole ‘i have to be noble and let you go bc its for the best’ bullshit but!!! there is a happy ending
maybe, maybe not- a webdrama starring kim kangmin (like) and gong yoorim- a girl who can read minds and is an outside bc she knows what everyone is really thinking meets a guy that she can’t read the mind of- so fluffy. so cute. oh god. pls watch it’s so soft and cute
my first first love- a korean drama starring jisoo (strong woman dbs), dia’s chaeyeon (drinking solo), and b1a4′s jinyoung (love in the moonlight)- about a group of friends who all, due to various circumstances, move into their friend tae oh’s house, and find love along the way.- idk why netflix did that dumbass thing where they did mffl 1 and mffl 2 but they’re the same show, just eps 1-8 then 8-16. anyways !! very cute show!! jisoo is fine as hell. taeoh and the rich girl are cute together. i found the ending abrupt and unsatisfying, but overall a good show
thumping spike (s1)- a korean drama starring hwang seung eon (part-time idol) and song jae rim (our gab soon) - about a volleyball team and their coach who are aiming for success, and a female professional volleyball player who becomes their athletic mentor- i know it doesnt sound super romantic but trust me. there is lots of romance, and even a love triangle hehe
u-prince: the single lawyer- a thai drama apart of the u-prince series starring august vachiravit paisarnkulwong and apple lapisara intarasu- firstclass is a straight a student who is strict about punctuality and properness, while minute is a spoiled rich girl who loses all her luxuries when her family files for bankruptcy. she begins “going out” with her gay best friend, aka firstclass’ brother, for money and ends up living in their house, but she and firstclass hate each other- listen all the u prince dramas are cringy and low quality but does it look like a give a shit . NO BC I KEEP WATCHING THEM . they’re cute ok . anyways this was my favorite one so this is the one im recommending yeehaw
unexpected heroes- a short korean drama sponsored by the CDC organ transplant management center, starring btob’s minhyuk, ioi’s sohye, and choi jonghoon- about three high school students who discover that, after their respective organ transplants, they have supernatural powers- though there’s not much focus on romance in this drama, it’s still funny and cute. plus minhyuk is in it and what more can you ask for ?? lol. anyways the trio uses their powers to help solve crimes n stuff it’s gr8 and ive been waiting for a season 2 for 98429834 years
what to do with you- a korean webdrama - that is actually literally an ad for a facemask - starring lee hayoung and kim youngdae (extraordinary you)- saerom and geun are friends, but it feels like they’re something more. will they ever take the next step?- yeah this webdrama is super cute and that’s really all lol. also the bitchy girl in love after school is the best friend in this one oho
your imagination becomes reality- a webdrama that can be found on youtube starring oh se young, kim dohoon (my woofy poofy love), and jin ho eun- soram has a crush on a mysterious upperclassman, and wishes to see him again: she does, soon after. each time she makes a wish, it seems to magically come true. - yeah so like . it’s not a supernatural thing or anything, it’s just a cute college romance that’s basically every girl with a crush’s dream lol~!

The original Housemaid
The Housemaid Part 1 , The original Housemaid, directed by Kim Ki-young in 1960, was a claustrophobic, suspenseful masterpiece announcing Korea as a major player on the international cinematic stage. The plot was simple: A family hires a housemaid, and, in doing so, invites ruin into their lives. The housemaid is clearly “off” already, but after the husband sleeps with her, in a weak moment when his wife is away, the maid turns psychotic and obsessive. By the end of the film, the power dynamic has completely shifted, and the family has become prisoners in their own home, dominated and lorded over by the maid who now holds all the cards.
Kim Ki-young’s camera slides through the cramped middle-class house, peeking through windows and around corners, creating a tremendously unbalancing effect, with shots that repeat themselves, sometimes obsessively, heightening the intensity and the sensation that this time, this time there would be no escape from that small space. A vicious social critique of middle-class aspirations (“If only I didn’t want a bigger house,” sighs the wife at one point), Kim Ki -young’s film was a massive hit (financially and critically) in Korea, and changed the Korean film industry forever. It dealt with current issues like infidelity and sex outside of marriage in a courageous manner, and it had a bold and stylistic look that has influenced a generation of filmmakers.
It is now 50 years later. Korea’s film industry is once again dazzling viewers around the world, and in this current climate of excitement and anticipation, The Housemaid has been remade by acclaimed director Im Sang-soo. Starring Jeon Do-yeon (2007 Best Actress winner at Cannes in Secret Sunshine) as Eun-yi, the housemaid, and Lee Jung-jae as the philandering husband who seduces her, the remake takes the core structure of what was there in the original and inverts it. Instead of members of middle-class family who want to buy a television and want to have enough money just to take care of their sickly daughter, the family in the remake is wealthy and lives in a virtual palace, high above the fray of the urban streets we see in the opening sequence. The class critique is still there, but instead of chastising those on the low-to-middle rungs of society for wanting more, it points its fingers at the soulless cruelty of the very-wealthy (a less interesting choice since the target is so obvious).
In Kim Ki-young’s film, it is the husband’s story from beginning to end. The housemaid emerges as a horrifying “other,” a demon from the deep who, once she has tasted the air up here, refuses to go away. The film is a grim warning to those who stray from their marriage (even up to the last moment, when the husband breaks the fourth wall and addresses the audience directly, a jolting theatrical choice). In the remake, it is the housemaid’s story. She comes to work at the house, and she is shown the ropes by Byung-sik, the senior maid (in a brilliant performance by Yun Yeo-Jong). Lee Jung-jae’s “Hoon” is calculating womanizer, with a very pregnant spoiled wife (Seo Woo), and a young daughter who sizes Eun-yi up with a cold solemn face that manages to be both endearing and scary at the same time. She is a creepy little kid, but you get the sense that she knows her parents are lunatics. Hoon is not getting enough sex from his pregnant wife, and so he sets his sights on the new girl. Eun-yi is swept away by the sex and finds him impossible to resist. (At one point, in a moment too visceral too imagine in an American film, she buries her face in his groin and sighs, “Oh God, I love that smell.”) The mansion is a sexual hothouse and she seems to thrive in that environment. Even the uniforms the maids are made to wear play up the sexual inequalities of the situation: body-hugging grey skirts, tight white shirts, and black pumps with glass heels. The glass heels are the giveaway. In Im Sang-soo’s version, this is a Cinderella story.
By removing the struggles of the middle-class from the equation and by focusing on the exploitation of the poor by the very rich, Im Sang-soo has, ironically, removed much of the unbearable tension found in the original. We know Hoon is a jerk (put down the wine glass, bub), we know his wife is a spoiled brat, and we know the housemaid is an innocent girl. The film operates from cliché and our preconceived notions about certain archetypes. The villain twirls his mustache leeringly, and the damsel in distress wrings her hands. It’s a shorthand. There is pleasure to be had in such broad performances (the acting is fine throughout), but a lot of power and suspense is lost in that transfer.
The look of the remake, shot for shot, shows the characteristic boldness that Korean directors are known for. For example, there’s a scene in a hospital waiting room, with a solitary character sitting in a stationary chair. The camera rests on her. Rolling back and forth in front of her is another character, in a wheelchair, passing across the frame. The emotional tension is in the stationary character; it is her scene, but her emotions are made manifest in the restless pacing of the other character in the wheelchair. This kind of old-fashioned “blocking” of a scene in order to show the emotional subtext of any given moment is what the American studio system used to do so well (when the directors and actors all came from vaudeville and theatre, and where blocking like that was par for the course, since it had to be readable in the cheap seats). Every scene in The Housemaid has something interesting about it visually.
The mansion is almost another character in the film, filmed in exquisite and almost excessive detail. The space is extraordinary, echoing and endless, reminiscent of the cavernous maze that is Xanadu in Citizen Kane, or the creepy marble-staircased abode inhabited by Claude Rains and Ingrid Bergman in Hitchcock’s Notorious. The problem with the house, though, is that it is so grand, on such an otherwordly one-percent-of-all-humanity-lives-like- this level, that it is hard to know what we should be feeling about it, except envy at the beauty of it, or relief that we don’t have to be in charge of cleaning it. Neither reaction is ideal for what should be a psychologically taut and suspenseful film. Im Sang-soo and his team of set designers put a lot of love and detail into that house, and it shows. But his attention perhaps was needed elsewhere. The original still terrifies. This one, while visually exciting with a shocker of an ending, and a strange coda right out of David Lynch (a nod to the “this has been a public service announcement” ending of the original), does not terrify. It remains a beautiful visual statement, with some seriously mixed messages at the heart of it. The on-the-nose economic critique does nothing to help excavate the guts of this nasty little tale, because we already know who these people are. Nothing they do surprises us.
There is one notable exception, and that is Yun Yeo-Jong’s performance as the head maid, Byung-sik. The actress worked with Kim Ki-young in 1970, appearing in his second film, Fire Woman, and she has had a long illustrious career. Byung-sik maintains a stony face in the presence of her employers and is an efficient and brisk employee. But when she lets her hair down, sometimes in the presence of Eun-yi, but mostly when she is by herself, a torrent of anger and contempt comes pouring out of her, giving the film its funniest moments. She lies in the tub, smoking a cigarette, her gestures suddenly blasé and “over it,” and the contrast between that and her buttoned-up professional behavior is specific, humorous and eloquent. Every gesture, every look, even the slightest hint of an eye-roll behind everyone’s back, suggests volcanic rage. Eun-yi confides in Byung-sik at one point (a big mistake), and Byung-sik cuts her off coldly, in a flat tough-dame voice right out of film noir: “Listen These are scary people, okay?” To see Byung-sik flailing about drunkenly in her room, late at night, screaming her helpless fury up at the camera placed on the ceiling, is to feel the energy that should have been present in the film entire. There is your real class critique. There is the demon emerging from the deep. Yun Yeo-Jong steals the show.
The Korean film industry was, in many ways, launched into the modern era with The Housemaid in 1960. In recent years, Korean films have gained a new generation of passionate fans, due to their creative, dazzling style and confident experiments with well-known genres (Chan-wook Park’s exhilarating and bloodthirsty vampire movie Thirst (2009), Bong Joon-ho’s serial-killer-police procedural Memories of Murder (2003), as well as Bong Joon- ho’s more recent The Host, and Mother, just to name a few). A film industry that is so certain of itself, so confident in its aims, is reminiscent of the studio system in 1930s and 1940s America, where artistic aims and commercial aims often walked hand in hand. It is a rare thing today, in part because such a willingness to take big, bold swings guarantees that there will be misses. Im Sang-soo’s The Housemaid is what happens when a film-maker’s bravery isn’t quite matched by his vision

A/N: The story is inspired by The Glory, however, some time periods have changed as well as situations where the protagonist will be part of changing some original scenes.
I appreciate you reading and being part of this new story, as always I hope to please your readers' hearts.
I'll be back soon.
Jae Joon seemed to lose his personality every time you came and your oxygen mixed with his, your simple presence was a sign of salvation for his employees because they knew that he would stop his rude and violent attitude.
It wasn't that he pretended to be nice, he was just so stupidly in love that he even forgot who he was.
You're a son of a bitch, you're useless, do I have to do everything myself? Huh? - Jae Joon pushed his guard making him crash into a wall while the man just looked down in shame
Babe? - your voice made his jaw relax as he turned around hastily worried that you might have seen that scene
Baby, what are you doing here? - his smile formed wide as he hugged you by the waist lifting you a little in the air - how is my favorite girl doing?
I passed by here and came to visit you - you smiled hugging him by the neck kissing his lips leaving a light trace of your lip gloss on them
You arrived just in time, I was starting to miss you - he smiled carefully lowering you adjusting your blouse - are you staying to eat with me?
I don't think so, I have an appointment with the florist and then I'll go pick out the veil for my wedding dress - you smiled at him wiping the lipstick off his lips
You'll be the most beautiful bride of all - he kissed your cheek making you laugh like a teenager in love, both feeling for a moment that nothing around you existed
Both of you seemed to have no notion of time and wanted to rush everything, by then a huge ring adorned your left hand, it was beautiful and exotic very different from the generic rings that your friends boasted.
It shine with every ray of sunlight that hit the perfect shaped stone, always being the topic of conversation at the meetings where now you no longer accompanied your parents as part of the Y/L/N family but instead you presented yourself on Jae Joon's arm as the future Mrs. Jeon, causing annoyance to the dozens of people who once approached your family hoping to create a bond and you rejected their annoying sons.
Life was perfect, while you chose the ideal flowers for the wedding and tried the desserts that would be served at the reception you forgot that you ever doubted that this moment would come, everything was happiness.
Maybe we can take some of the fabric from here and adjust it - you looked at the dressmaker through the mirror while you touched your waist detailing the last adjustments of your wedding dress
I understand, how do you like the train of the dress? - she smiled at you placing a couple of pins in the leftover fabric - would you like it to be a little longer?
No, I think it's fine, I wouldn't want to trip walking down the aisle - you laughed looking at the back of your dress
You'll be a beautiful bride, your fiance must be very lucky to have you - she smiled at you adjusting the veil looking at you with adoration
I think so - you smiled looking at her feeling your phone vibrate, lately Jae Joon had become very insistent in his messages, sending you loving texts and images of every movement he made
I'll go get the other veil for you to try on - the dressmaker smiled leaving giving you your space while you unlocked your phone looking at the message from an unknown phone
''Will you be a very happy bride?''
With this message, it would be the third one you received in the last month, all coming from an unknown phone, always different and with a foreign area code
Miss, is everything okay? - The young girl looked at you worriedly, bringing you out of your thoughts, smiling at her as you locked your phone again to go with her to the center of the room.
Yes, excuse me - you sighed nervously, looking at her, trying to make it seem like everything was okay - please show me the other veil.
Of course, this one will be for the reception, it's shorter and has a more subtle fall - the girl explained to you while your head spun, thinking a thousand things at once.
Trying to remember if you had done something to bother someone to receive that kind of subtly annoying messages that worried you.
That night you felt like you wanted to tell Jae Joon everything, it wasn't like everything you told him wasn't enough already, but sometimes you decided to keep certain things to yourself to avoid him getting upset, not exactly with you but with others and causing an annoying situation.
Like the time you told him that the Peterson's son kept sending you messages to go out with him again (even though you had made it clear to him almost a year ago that you wasn't interested) and he didn't take long to show up at his company offices making a fuss so he would stop bothering you, a split lip was the least you think he could give him.
After dinner and making sure that the people who helped him at home went to rest (something you implemented since you came to live in his apartment) you both agreed that it was a good idea to rest in the Jacuzzi, something you had taken as a habit to relax and talk about their day.
Sometimes you didn't even say a single word, you just relaxed with each other's presence, but he wasn't stupid, he noticed every change in you and he could tell that you weren't completely calm
Is something wrong? - he murmured, arranging your hair to the side of your neck, feeling your bare back better against his chest
Yes, just… I'm a little tired - you sighed without opening your eyes, making yourself better comfortable near him
How about I skip work tomorrow and go with you to see the wedding pending? - he smiled when he saw you barely nod - anyway, I wanted to ask you to go with me to see the last details of our house, I would like the new decoration to be how you like it and I need your opinion
Yes, that's okay - you smiled barely, snuggling into his chest with a thousand ideas running through your head - Can I… tell you something?
Whatever you want… -
But do you promise not to get mad? - you looked at him barely blinking at something he found adorable
How could I be mad at you? Don't ever think that love, look at me - his arms took your waist moving you like a weightless piece on his legs making you look at him head on - don't ever think that something about you bothers me, it doesn't matter that I'll always listen to you, do you understand?
Yes it is… I just don't want you to be upset you know with… someone else..- you looked at him shyly sighing nervously
Someone else? - his gaze darkened tensing his jaw- who did something to you?
No… it's not something like… someone did something to me… it's just that..- you sighed again looking at your hands between the bubbles in the bathtub- for… a couple of weeks I've been receiving messages…
messages?… are they from that bastard Peterson? -
No…no it's not him…I don't really know who it is actually…it's just that they are strange messages, like…I don't know, like asking me things, I haven't even answered, in fact I blocked the first number and then I received another one and…that's what it's been happening..-
Show me those messages - he sighed deeply massaging the bridge of his nose while you took your phone and showed him the series of messages
''You are the light in his darkness, it would be a shame if he was blinded and forgot his reality''
''Are you funny? It will help when you see him cry''
''Will you be a happy bride?''
These sons of bitches - he sighed again holding all the air in his lungs in a scream of frustration throwing your phone against the wall making it break into a thousand pieces, realizing his mistake when he saw you jump scared looking at him with fear - I'm sorry babe - he hugged you quickly making you feel confused - you don't have to worry, I'll change your phone number and we'll only give it to the really important people okay? No one else, I don't want these bastards to keep bothering you
A thousand names ran through his head, maybe one of your ex dates, Yeo-Jin even the starving Hye-Jeon, whoever it was he wasn't going to let them ruin his perfect life by your side.
Absolutely nothing could go wrong and if it did, he would fix it for you.
His eyes kept moving around the place where the reception was going to take place, an exclusive and elegant garden with a view of the city as you both liked, he could listen to you talk and talk without letting go of your hand.
I would like there to be hundreds of gardenias on the tables, for the whole place to smell like flowers - you smiled looking at the options to decorate the guests' tables making the organizer look at you smiling somewhat distrustful of your choice
Gardenias are a bit expensive, could I recommend some other flower or style to decorate the tables - he smiled confident of his comments writing in his notebook
Hey.. - Jae joon looked at him without missing a detail with his predatory eyes - if my wife wants hundreds of flowers you will get them, do you understand?
Yes, it's just an opinion…
We don't need your opinion, you're going to do what she wants and that's it - he looked him up and down smiling mockingly rolling his eyes annoyed by nosy people
Sometimes, even though you didn't share his dominant character, seeing him have that kind of reaction made you feel good, his possessive and jealous attitude was most of the time a compliment for you even though you felt bad about it afterwards but ''That's how men are'' your mother always repeated to you when you told her how Jae Joon acted on certain occasions.
After all, that's love, isn't it?
That's what you always told yourself to make yourself feel better after every outburst of anger your husband had, never against you, always against those who contradicted you or questioned your ideas or his, a bad habit that you normalized over time.
On your wedding day, it was like a fairy tale written in reality, your mother helped you put on your expensive designer dress, your long veil for the altar and your hands adorned with your expensive engagement ring.
On the way to the altar you could notice familiar faces and others not so familiar, Sara was one of them, smiling like crazy (drugged) watching your pretty dress float down the aisle.
Yeo-Jin couldn't control her jealousy and envy as she watched how you broke all her expectations, being a beautiful and elegant bride making her feel insecure and tiny comparing you to her on her wedding day, how was that bastard's wife going to beat her? It was unforgivable for her.
Hye-Jeong hated you, just that, she hated you, you had stolen Jae Joon's heart without putting in the effort she had tried for years, she felt inferior and humiliated in the dress Sara had give to her to attend your wedding, feeling nauseous every time you and Jae Joon smiled at each other wishing she was the one in your place.
You are the most beautiful daughter I could win Y/N - Mr. Jeon, now your father-in-law smiled at you hugging you just after finishing the ceremony - you did a great job Jae Joon, you have a beautiful woman, now please do not take long to give me grandchildren
Dad..shut up - Jae Joon looked at him disgusted feeling a little embarrassed while you smiled blushing a little
Congratulations Joon - Yeo-Jin smiled holding her cigarette followed by the two girls with mixed emotions- it was a beautiful wedding
Love, this is Yeo-Jin an old friend, Hye-Jeong and Sara, you already know her - Jae Joon looked at them a little defiantly knowing how to interpret the attitudes of each one with his years of experience knowing them
A pleasure - you smiled a little cleverly looking at them, receiving a hypocritical smile from Yeo-Jin and a pale and emotionless face from Hye-Jeong - Jae Joon has told me a little about You
Really? What an honor, I hope it's just new things - Yeo-Jin laughed smoking a little more making you feel strange for his sarcastic answers
If you don't mind - Your now husband noticed it, holding your hand smiling kindly - we have to go
This time, you smile (hypocritical) as you passed by her made two of the three girls look at you with hatred while Sara said goodbye waving her hand excitedly out of this planet
Wow, she's so cute, like a princess - Sara smiled lost in your dress receiving a blow from Yeo-Jin making her react annoyed while rubbing her arm - what's wrong with you bitch?
Shut your mouth you damn drug addict - Hye-Jeong looked at her annoyed
The rest of the night none of the three girls could believe what they saw when they saw how Jae Joon behaved next to you, it seemed like he was another person, his loving attitude and dedication to make you happy in the least had them surprised.
Look at him - Hye-Jeong sighed leaning on her hand watching how you took a piece of cake with a fork and brought it to Jae Joon's mouth making him eat while both laughed in love - if any of us had done that, he would have taken that fork and stuck it in our eye, he's a bastard
He's a bastard because you're jealous - Sara laughed drinking from her glass - accept it you poor, starving girl, he would never have noticed you, you're poor, ugly and have no sense of fashion, look at her, she's a foreigner with nice tits and the most expensive bags you can imagine, she's a lucky bitch.
You can shut your mouths - Yeo-Jin looked at them annoyed rolling her eyes- she's just a bitch, if she knew everything that son of a bitch did and why he fled the country in such a hurry I assure you that she wouldn't even have noticed him, she's too pure for that problematic bastard
Well there's nothing we can do now, is he already a tied man or not Hye-Jeon? - Sara laughed mockingly smoking making the short-haired woman look at her annoyed crossing her arms
We'll see how long their love story lasts, when she knows who Jeon Jae Joon really is she'll send him to hell..-

#theglory #theglory2 #theglorypart2 #더글로리파트2 #songhyekyo #송혜교 #leedohyun #이도현 #limjiyeon #임지연 #yumhyeran #염혜란 #parksunghoon #박성훈 #jungsungil #정성일#kimhieora #김히어라 #chajooyoung #차주영 #kimgunwoo #김건우 #characterposters #drama #kdrama #koreandrama #dramakorea #fayrafeed (di My Imagination) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoesCJNPPBs/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
