namjoon has several tattoos, yes. i actually got one wrong on his app and it haunts me.

his first tattoo was… the “late bloomer” tattoos on his right pinky and ring finger, outer sides with “late” on his ring and “bloomer” on his pinky. They’re in calligraphic cursive, black ink. jazz’s sister, haneul, specialized in calligraphic works and he asked her to do it. he’d known her for some time, and jazz wasn’t as skilled in that area yet, so it was reasonable to ask her to do it. it’s his only tattoo not done by jazz.

his second was his upper thigh tattoo, which he’s being a little shaky about sharing. it’s a couple tattoo, in a sense, except it’s not between two people, but four. all four are different but complementary. namjoon’s is aster and fall-themed, though.

his third was the one i got wrong on the application. it’s a lineart pterosaur tail with “destroy” written above it. hazel colors it in periodically, so it’s always different and very colorful. he treats it so it doesn’t rub off on any of his shirts and doesn’t fade so quickly throughout the next week or so.

those are the ones he has currently

he’s thinking of adding two more—one of a jellyfish on his ankle (a baby one because he’s weak) and one of peach blossoms on the back of his shoulder going between his shoulder blade and tricep.

fun fact: every single tattoo is and will be in his right side. for the foreseeable future, anyway. that may change. who knows.

(Meta) Namjoon's ability to lie.

you’re asking me to write up some real essays, you punk. ily tho

i can’t even say that it wouldn’t be a reality outside of necessity because by now it’s almost an inherent part of his personality. i failed to capture him well in his application here, but “slippery” would be a fitting word for him.

he came from a ruinous family that isolated and owned him until about the age of 14. that was when they moved and he started up picking up jobs outside of the family. i don’t think his lies necessarily started then—they probably did at a far younger age, probably starting around the time that he had to lie where he and his elder sister went at night and why she was so intent on beating the shit out of hyunja. it’s hard to tell.

but they truly began when he started having a life outside of his family and it wasn’t just time spent working that he was away. they weren’t huge lies at first. they would ask where he’d been and he’d say he had been working overtime when really ares was teaching him how to read english under the peach trees. i find it interesting that even then, he knew that he should lie, and that to do otherwise would be a bad idea. i think that, at that age, he was mostly protecting himself.

later on, they become more serious because he has more serious things to protect than himself. when he no longer came home at night, he said that he was sleeping around. when sua and muyeol met ares, he lied through his teeth about his identity and relationship to him and took their derogatory remarks in stride. he lied enough and stayed under the radar enough that somehow no one ever tried to follow him back to the apartment he had with the boys or try to get anything more out of him than what he said already.

and i strongly believe he learned a life halfway full of lies was possible because of his sister.

he tries not to lie to his boys, but he doesn’t tell them everything, either. he’s been working toward that. it’s hard, though, when the truth can be so dangerous. he wants them to know him, but doesn’t want to make a mistake that could put them in danger. he does not, however, lie to them.

he does slither out, though, and that will get him in trouble i’m sure.

[meta] What is the motivation for Namjoon, his first and primal reason for being and doing? Has it changed? Will it change?

his motivation: originally, it was primarily a motivation to live. he wasn’t sure what else he was supposed to do. when he tried his best and he was still met with disapproval, disdain, cruelty, all he could decide to do was live. his older sister, kijung, saved him on so many occasions, and if she had made it through on her own, so could he. later, it was a mix of duty and fear. he feared for his nieces and nephews, sometimes his own siblings and parents for what they could do and did do to one another. while he wasn’t doing anything that they saw as particularly useful or of worth, he was doing something. he was helping his mess of a family stay afloat with money from more stable sources, and he was there to curb a lot of bad things from becoming terrible. as shitty as they had been to him his entire life, they were family, and he’s always loved them. he was sustained by the knowledge that he’d survived thus far. he could stand to be there for the younger ones, as kijung had done for him. a few days before his seventeenth birthday, again things changed, and he stopped living for his family. he still did everything he had before, but they no longer controlled his life. that was his own. there was things to live for outside them that filled him with life and a genuine love for being present and existent, rather than loathing, fear, trepidation. gradually, it became less and less about his family until he cut them off completely. his motivation now is to give some significance to all that time he spent surviving. establish himself as someone useful, despite what he’s been told his whole life. there are people who love and support him. now all he has to do is find a way to support them back not only by existing, but by thriving and contributing and being rooted. they deserve that, and he’s starting to think that maybe he does as well.

so namjoon doesn’t know he’s a healer yet, so i’m going to project into the future for the first part. the answer to that is that it’s very easy. it’s one of the few things that comes really naturally to him, and his reaction to that is mixed. first of all, living his life and being used to working hard to be good at things for so long feels like the way it should be—both because he doesn’t particularly believe he deserves for things to come easily to him and because that’s the way it’s always been. he’s a quick learner and extremely intelligent, but it doesn’t come without his share of hard work and effort. also, the fact that something that was so good and natural for him was right in front of his nose while he struggles with a fruitless path is both amusing and fucking annoying to him, but he gets over it.

as for the second question, he gets injured just as easily as anyone else. that aside, he has never scarred, and he’s had some deep injuries in his life. He’s never understood why he doesn’t scar, and won’t until he learns he’s a healer. an interesting tidbit is that it’s very hard for him to accidentally hurt others. intentionally, it’s just as easy as it should be, but if he’s flailing his arms and nails someone in the nose, it’s not going to hurt much. that’s his passive healing ability countering something accidental. his passive healing abilities are quite strong, though still remarkably weak—weak enough that he’s gone 20 years without realizing that when he touches people, they tend to heal much quicker and easier. it’s like having magic pent up over two decades with no outlet. it naturally flows to do what it can.

Something in the air comes to Fei Long like a barely felt taste, elusive and short lasting, at first. Though when he moves onward on his usual evening route through the Academy's grounds, it's suddenly overpowering, a delight that has the vampire lift his head and take a long whiff, enraptured. Not much longer after that he is within the source's earshot, a young man with vibrantly coloured hair. He can't help but sound mesmerized when he speaks, "Pl-...easure to meet. You must be...new."

Namjoon wasn’t entirely accustomed to being approached randomly and thanked for meeting when that part hadn’t been... even done yet. “Same to you?” Laughing, he pushed his hair back and smiled. It was getting late, and he’d be heading home soon (hopefully). “What is it about you guys and sniffing the newbies out?”

Aoi was in the computer lab, fingers jabbing away at a keyboard while he made quick work trying to fix the system BEFORE the little shits in the computer class came in to ruin it all again. Why couldn't the teacher fix the damn thing?! He was a computer teacher! But NO, Aoi had to do it... When one of those said shits came in he lifted his gaze and narrowed his eyes at the poor soul, saying, "I wish to inform you that I hold a grudge against your entire class. Just saying."

There was one class that Namjoon was very sure he’d be a mess in, and that was Computer Science. It wasn’t like he broke literally everything he touched, so it was likely the computers would stay intact under his fingers for long enough for him to participate, but the thing was that things just... didn’t work out. But he was ready to try this, for what it was worth.

Edging around the door into the almost empty classroom, he was about to lower his bag into a chair when he was called out. Looking over, he straightened a little to regard the man properly. “Oh man. I can’t imagine I’ll make it better. Sorry ‘bout that.”
