gladly! this is gonna be a long post
this was my first car, she was a 1984 mercedes 300D turbodiesel. her name was clifford, named after a button on the dash from a defunct security system. in-line five diesel engine, sounded like a truck, was built like a truck, LOVED this car. i paid $600 for her in 2016. she had 308k miles when i bought her, and she went to the scrapyard with 314k the next year when the hood latches broke while i was on the highway and sent the hood into the windshield. i was okay but the repairs were just too much for a $600 car. she was awesome though, a real head turner even with her peeling clearcoat and plumes of diesel smoke
then there was the corolla! 1999, manual transmission. the best car i’ve ever owned. not my favorite but definitely objectively the best. bought off a friend also for $600, around 210k miles. surprisingly fun to drive, very reliable. drove from north carolina to massachusetts in that car, and then across massachusetts every week. her name was wanda, which carried over from the previous owner. drover her for a little over a year before the brakes failed and i rear ended someone
i replaced the corolla with an ‘05 mazda3 i called the tick, after the cartoon character. also bought from a friend. kept it through early 2021 i think, drove it through most of early quarantine. i didn’t love this car personally, in large part because the transmission and starter both went out on me within the first two months of ownership and the friend i bought it from was entirely unsympathetic. i sold it to my shitty roommate lol
and then for some reason my mom gave me a sports car. she bought a new honda civic and handed down her 2004 subaru wrx wagon, with the manual transmission and everything. she’d named it the millennium falcon so i called her falcon. this car was a blast to whip around. that turbo boxer engine sounded amazing and this thing RIPPED on the highway. the biggest issues with it were that it really didn’t have all that much character on the road, and it took premium gas, so fill ups were EXPENSIVE. i sold her after having her for a few months because the clutch went out and i was quoted $2k to replace it because that’s what happens when you have a sports car. sold it as is to a guy with two other wrxs who wanted to fix it up and use it as a work car
this is the current baby! bit of an older picture because she looks uhhh worse these days but this is clifford jr the 2001 jeep cherokee xj. i’ve learned so much with this car, done a bunch of the work on her myself. she’s a fixer upper im reaching my limit on but she’s served me remarkably well and is my favorite car i’ve owned. not fast, not good on gas, but god she’s got some character. just rolled over 256k miles
like i said i’m reaching my wits end with the jeep, every time i fix something two more things break, and i can’t afford for her to keep being a money pit. so i’m starting to save for something else, ideally a late 80s honda or toyota, or a panther body sedan, like a ford crown victoria or mercury grand marquis

A Florida judge is considering whether authorities should add hate crime charges against two of three men who allegedly chased a Black man into an alley and killed him.
Authorities found a 39-year-old Black man shot to death behind a dumpster at 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2 in Jacksonville, Florida. Two days later, police announced they’d arrested Ryan Christopher Nichols, 19, Daniel James DeGuardia, 18, and Holden Emery Dodson, 21, according to First Coast News.
Circuit Court Judge Kim Sadler said DeGuardia and Dodson’s charges could be upgraded to a hate crime.
“I’m not the state, it’s up to them, of course, what charges they bring,” Sadler told First Coast News. “But it was just a bunch of white guys chasing a Black guy and I didn’t see any reason for it.”
A hate crime charge would mean harsher penalties, according to Florida law. For instance, a second-degree felony would be upgraded to a first-degree felony.
The identity of the deceased Black man has not been released.
What happened?
Surveillance footage of the are showed a Jeep Grand Cherokee arriving near 100 North Julia Street and parking around 2:25 a.m. Three white men exit the vehicle and begin walking. Twenty minutes later, the Black victim is seen being chased by the men as he flees behind a dumpster. Moments later, the three white men return to the jeep and speed off.
Another video near a 7-Eleven revealed the license plate of the vehicle. Authorites tracked it to alleged accomplice DeGuardia’s mother’s home. DeGuardia allegedly reported his 9mm Glock as lost that night.
According to First Coast News, authorities also reported a 36-year-old Black woman had been shot and killed. Her body was found in a vehicle in the area of Boulevard and West 22nd Street. The Sheriff’s Office doesn’t believe the two homicides are related.
Anyone with information contact the Sheriff’s Office at (904) 630-0500 or First Coast Crime Stoppers at (866) 845-8477 (845-TIPS) to remain anonymous and be eligible for rewards. Or email [email protected] or [email protected].
Florida has a long history of hate crimes
The local Sheriff’s Office said that while the investigation is ongoing, there is “no information at this time” leading them to believe the attack was a hate crime. Notably, police officers around the nation are not obligated to report hate crimes to the FBI’s federal database.
Florida has a long history of hate crimes, however, in the form of racial terror lynchings.
At least 319 lynchings of Black people took place in Florida between 1877 and 1950, according to data from the Equal Justice Initiative. The state accounted for the 6th highest number of racial terror lynching during that period.
In Duval County, where Jacksonville resides, EJI documented eight lynchings during that period. One county over, in St. John’s County, where the three suspects all had previous addresses, one lynching reportedly took place.
In recent years, Florida has become a hot-bed of anti-Black sentiment through the passage of laws targeting Black history and limiting the political power of Black residents. The shooting adds to a deadly toll taking place around the country.
More Americans fell victim to gun violence in 2021 (48,830) than any previous year on record, according to Pew Research Center. Guns are also the leading cause of death for children and teens, Pew found.

Jeep: The Iconic Brand’s Journey from Battlefield to Global Icon
Origins of Jeep: From War Vehicle to Civilian Legend
The story of Jeep begins during one of the most tumultuous times in world history: World War II. In 1940, the U.S. Army needed a rugged, reliable, and versatile vehicle for reconnaissance and transportation of troops and equipment across various terrains. The army's request for a "light reconnaissance vehicle" led to a competition among several automakers, including Willys-Overland, Ford, and Bantam.
Willys-Overland eventually won the contract to produce what would become the Jeep MB, with Ford producing a similar model called the GPW under license. The Jeep MB became the quintessential wartime vehicle, known for its durability, four-wheel drive, and ability to navigate harsh terrains. The name "Jeep" is often thought to be derived from the military designation "GP" (for "General Purpose"), though some attribute it to a popular comic strip character named "Eugene the Jeep" from Popeye, known for his ability to go anywhere.
After the war, Willys-Overland capitalized on the Jeep's wartime reputation, branding it as the CJ (Civilian Jeep) and marketing it to farmers, ranchers, and outdoor enthusiasts. This marked the beginning of Jeep's transition from a military vehicle to a symbol of rugged individualism and adventure in civilian life.
Evolution of Jeep Models: A Journey Through Time
Over the decades, Jeep has evolved from its military roots to produce a wide range of vehicles, each catering to different segments of the market while retaining the brand’s core values of durability, off-road capability, and adventure. Here’s a look at the significant models that have shaped Jeep’s legacy:
1945 Jeep CJ-2A: The first mass-produced civilian Jeep, designed for farmers and workers, maintaining the ruggedness of its military predecessor.
1955 Jeep CJ-5: An evolution of the CJ-2A, the CJ-5 introduced a longer wheelbase and more powerful engines, solidifying Jeep’s reputation among off-road enthusiasts.
1963 Jeep Wagoneer: The Wagoneer was a groundbreaking vehicle, often considered the first luxury SUV. It combined off-road capability with comfort and style, setting the stage for the modern SUV.
1984 Jeep Cherokee (XJ): The XJ Cherokee was a revolutionary model, introducing the concept of a compact SUV with unibody construction. It was versatile, capable, and became immensely popular, influencing the design of future SUVs.
1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee: The Grand Cherokee brought a new level of luxury and sophistication to the Jeep lineup. It was the first SUV to offer a driver’s side airbag and was a key player in the explosion of the SUV market in the 1990s.
2007 Jeep Wrangler JK: The Wrangler JK introduced a four-door version, expanding the Wrangler’s appeal to families and those who needed more space while retaining the ruggedness that made it a legend.
2014 Jeep Cherokee (KL): A modern interpretation of the Cherokee, the KL model offered advanced technology, improved fuel efficiency, and refined on-road manners while still delivering off-road prowess.
2021 Jeep Grand Wagoneer: The revival of the Grand Wagoneer nameplate brought Jeep back into the luxury SUV market, offering a full-size SUV with premium features and cutting-edge technology.
2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe: As part of its push towards electrification, Jeep introduced the Wrangler 4xe, a plug-in hybrid version of the iconic Wrangler, combining eco-friendly driving with off-road capability.
Global Popularity: Jeep’s Footprint Around the World
Jeep’s appeal extends far beyond the United States, with a strong presence in various international markets. Here’s a look at some of the countries where Jeep is especially popular:
United States: As the birthplace of Jeep, the U.S. remains the brand’s largest market. Models like the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, and Gladiator are particularly popular among American consumers who value ruggedness, capability, and the outdoor lifestyle.
Canada: Jeep enjoys a strong presence in Canada, where the brand’s off-road capabilities are highly valued for navigating the country’s diverse and often challenging terrains.
Australia: In Australia, the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee are favorites among off-road enthusiasts who explore the Outback and other remote regions. The brand’s “Go Anywhere, Do Anything” philosophy resonates well in this adventurous market.
Europe: Jeep has steadily grown its presence in Europe, particularly in countries like Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The compact Renegade and the more luxurious Grand Cherokee have found a niche among European drivers who appreciate the blend of style and capability.
China: Jeep has made significant inroads into the Chinese market, which is one of the largest and fastest-growing automotive markets in the world. The Cherokee and Compass are particularly popular in China, where SUVs are increasingly in demand.
Sales Performance: A Legacy of Strong Sales
Jeep has consistently performed well in terms of sales, driven by its strong brand identity and the growing popularity of SUVs globally. In recent years, Jeep has sold over 1 million vehicles annually, with key models like the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, and Renegade contributing significantly to these numbers.
Jeep’s global expansion has also bolstered its sales, with the brand establishing manufacturing plants in various countries, including China, India, and Brazil, to cater to local markets more effectively.
The introduction of electrified models like the Wrangler 4xe and the expansion into luxury segments with the Grand Wagoneer are expected to drive Jeep’s future growth, as the brand adapts to changing consumer preferences and environmental regulations.
Competition: Brands and Models That Rival Jeep
While Jeep has established itself as a leader in the off-road and SUV segments, it faces stiff competition from other automakers. Some of the key competitors include:
Land Rover: Known for its luxury and off-road capability, Land Rover’s models like the Defender and Range Rover are direct competitors to Jeep’s higher-end offerings like the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee.
Toyota: The Toyota Land Cruiser and 4Runner are popular alternatives to the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee, offering similar off-road capabilities with Toyota’s reputation for reliability.
Ford: Ford’s recent revival of the Bronco has reignited competition in the off-road segment, directly challenging the Jeep Wrangler with a similar combination of rugged design and off-road prowess.
Chevrolet: The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban offer strong competition to the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer, particularly in the full-size SUV market.
Subaru: Subaru’s lineup, including the Outback and Forester, appeals to outdoor enthusiasts, offering all-wheel drive and off-road capabilities in a more car-like package.
Jeep Merchandise and Products on Amazon
For Jeep enthusiasts, there’s a wide range of products available on Amazon that complement the brand’s adventurous spirit. Here are some top picks:
Jeep Wrangler Repair Manual by Haynes: A must-have for DIY enthusiasts who want to maintain and repair their Jeep Wrangler.

The Enduring Legacy of Jeep
Jeep’s journey from a wartime necessity to a global icon is a testament to its enduring appeal and adaptability. The brand’s commitment to ruggedness, capability, and adventure has resonated with generations of drivers, making it one of the most recognizable and respected names in the automotive world.
Whether you’re an off-road enthusiast, a weekend warrior, or simply someone who appreciates the spirit of adventure, Jeep offers something for everyone. Its storied history, diverse lineup of models, and strong global presence ensure that Jeep will continue to be a driving force in the automotive industry for years to come.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT
For potential buyers whose notion of an adventurous afternoon involves observe time instead of an off-road path, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT is usually a high-performance SUV that will do exactly that. A six.4-liter V-8 pumps out 475 horsepower when a ripsnorting exhaust observe announces the SRT's arrival and, more dramatically, its departure. Whilst it's based on the standard Grand Cherokee, the SRT wears more aggressive bodywork and comes standard with a sport-tuned suspension and upgraded brakes. In translation, it loses none of the Grand Cherokee's practicality or cabin comfort, although the SRT's ride is far less compliant over potholes top car in the world. If you're one for pure excess, Jeep offers the 707-hp Grand Cherokee Trackhawk (reviewed separately), but its even bigger price tag may be a turnoff to some buyers.
What's New for 2022?
While Jeep has made no changes to the Grand Cherokee SRT for 2021, an all-new Grand Cherokee is expected for the 2022 model year. That means big changes should be coming for this high-performance variant.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
SRT
$72,490
0$25k
$50k
$75k
$100k
$125k
The base SRT is practically perfect as it is. We'd add the high-performance brake package to make sure the SRT stops as well as it goes and the Trailer Tow Group for optimal towing ability.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Grand Cherokee SRT first won our hearts with its thunderous Hemi V-8 and impressive efficiency. Although its naturally aspirated 6.4-liter V-8 is mild compared with the Trackhawk's 707-hp supercharged V-8, it still has 475 horses and 470 lb-ft of torque. The SRT we tested ripped to 60 mph in only four.4 seconds—just 0.2 second slower than a Dodge Challenger T/A 392. Even though the pony car was quicker in other acceleration tests, the SRT SUV matched the coupe's hearty exhaust be aware and responsive throttle for powerful pulls around town. With a maximum tow rating of 7200 pounds, the SRT can haul more than just ass. This high-powered Jeep has a sport-tuned suspension with adaptive dampers. The setup is stiffer than that of regular Grand Cherokees for improved handling. However, the SRT was comfortable and quiet driving over smoother surfaces. It has standard 20-inch wheels, and our test vehicle wore the optional Pirelli P Zero summer tires versus the standard all-season rubber. Whilst the GC SRT specializes in straight-line speed, it goes around corners surprisingly well given its heft. Its powerful Brembo brakes also helped it stop from 70 mph in 168 feet, which equaled the Trackhawk and was better than rivals such as the Mercedes-AMG GLE43.
