Originally from Suriname, Jeangu Macrooy is one of the few African artists to take the Eurovision stage, using the 2021 contest as an opportunity to celebrate anti-colonialism. Of course, since it's a European contest this effort got him zero points. However, he remains active in the Dutch music scene as both an artist and stage actor and tries to be a role model for other queer people in Suriname.
