Danny gets Amber? Steve goes to Afghanistan with Cath. But then she doesn't come back, Danny kills his brother's killer and sends his girlfriend away for six months, only to get her back. Sorry, he gets Melissa.

And Steve decides he must marry Cath. Unfortunately she disagrees. And runs.

At this point, Melissa is just a step under the plastic plant in Danny's bathroom so Steve could make a move, right? Right???

And that idiot must come in and flirt with his boy, and look, he would've probably never even called Lynn back, but at this point?? At this point it's clear it's Rachel all over again and Danny would literally become all chummy with a tall, dark, handsome perp, than notice Steve's six fucking years of wooing.

And starts dating Lynn.

Honestly? I get him.

Funny though, that neither Steve nor Danny are interested in introducing the respective girlfriends to each other. Especially if they have to interact. Funny especially if you think that both Lynn and Melissa, after seeing Danny and Steve interacting with each other closely, wisely disappear from their boyfriend's life.

steve was especially worried about leaving danny alone with them, but all danny did was talk about his daughter, and, again, in a room full of world's top models it's steve danny is quite literally thirsting over ↓

but even a bigger sign that steve has nothing to worry about? danny leaves grace, his precious baby girl his entire heart and life, in steve's care the entire time ↓

(as an aside how cute is it that steve just holds gracie's hand the whole time before she is handed off to the models for them to fawn over her)

notice how danny doesn't even have to check up on her/constantly look at her (which is saying a lot considering how overprotective he is) because he trusts steve that much. he is the worthy co-parent in danny's eyes and there's no bigger testimonial over how steve is the only one for danny.

they really did look like a couple who only took their daughter to a fancy party because she would enjoy it, not to ogle the models themselves, because that's what they are, de facto. (two outstanding heterosexuals amirite? ;))

they are just oblivious to that fact and insecure/jealous because they wouldn't be steve and danny otherwise.

So, while skipping through episodes, I had to witness (again) that messy clusterfuck that is the entirety of 9x11.

Once scene struck me because I hadn't payed much attention the first time, I was too pissed off. When Harry concocted that absolutely nonsense thing about the fake marriage, all people in the room laughed and mocked and fake-complimented, and they were all saying stupid things because it was funny, to them.

Danny himself, at one point, says his usual Mazel Tov line, and they all laugh. See? Even Cath is mildly amused that she gets to be a fake wife because thank god she escaped the real thing (yeah, she would've said Yes to Steve's proposal, maybe...only to jump on the next black helo and disappear for months or years with radio silence because only her job, not a relationship, was giving meaning to her life). She expects Steve to laugh too:

Steve is SO amused by this shit, you can see it perfectly! His face spotlessly mirrors Danny's, who says his line not laughing like everyone else, but sporting this face:

This scene is so telling, especially when you pair it up with the other Big Lie one ft. Melissa (aka: Rachel panicking bc Danny isn't answering her texts and he tells Melissa it's job).

See, for how I see it, it's not big deal, not heavy lies, but the reasons why Danny feels like he has to lie are: it's what I'd call "diplomatic lie", aka "lying in order to avoid repercussions from an enemy". Basically, Danny is protecting himself and what he holds dear, against the relationship war that telling the truth might bring.

Which....isn't even that much feasible if you think about it. He's simply buying time because he's panicking. He must tell something to Gabby about her choice, but he isn't ready to choose, because this easy, noncommittal thing they have going on is the best option he has to feel not a complete relationship failure without committing himself for real (yeah, I pair that bs "You made me feel this island like home" with Steve’s "She’s the one that got away" or either "I stayed here for my father"....which.....babes....I'm belly-laughing...Gabby has never stayed in Ohau more than a couple of weeks every year, Cath didn't even consider you her boyfriend, and your father's vengeance ended with Wo Fat's death. Try again).

And Melissa? Would it hurt someone to just say "Well, apparently the crazy ex wife is freaking out, when I'll be done with work I'll try see what the fuck she wants"?? No. Might even gain him points for honesty and ex-bashing.

The problem here is Danny's anxiety. He knows, he fears, he anticipates he'll be judged and condemned for his choice (making Gabby stay aka being a selfish asshole VS letting her go and breaking up, or being the one who goes immediately at the ex's command like she still held the threads of his life), and he cannot allow himself being himself. He's already been left and discharged for being him. For being wrong.

The only person who TRULY AND COMPLETELY knows everything about him, down to the darkest or most disgusting detail, is Steve. He feels free to be himself with Steve. He can annoy Steve, rant at Steve, yell at Steve, let out his anger and frustration and anxiety and fear and pettiness and hopelessness at Steve. And he'll never judge or condemn or mock or belittle him. Surely, he'll never leave him.

And Steve immediately catches on this. For all of Danny’s outspoken loudness and snark, he'll never allow himself to be truly open and vulnerable among people. He'll never present his true self to people, especially the women he sleeps with. They'd leave him immediately.

He only offers himself, his true, honest, vulnerable self, to Steve. Because he's learnt that he can trust Steve.

And this is friendship, obviously, but it's much more. Because he should feel free to be himself, emotionally naked, with someone who's seen him physically naked a lot of times.

I guess baring his soul his much more vexing than baring his body.

I took 3 melatonin last night and fell asleep reading McDanno and watching Magic Mike XXL and so as I was falling o was thinking about a recent gay romcom…it’s either called Bros or Bromance I think????

But anyway, Danny befriends a young hot gay guy who looks like the poster child of what Abrocombi and finch(I was never thin enough or rich enough to shop there so idk how to spell it) would look like but he’s a total sweet heart! And his gaydar is very spot on! Plus after a single day he knows this is a friendship that’s worth it. He helps Danny return to being true to himself. He’s known he’s not straight for a long time but after he married Rachel a lot of the less understanding people in his life thought he “finally chose a side” or “god it out of his system” and that took a toll for the whole time he was married. Dating after that was hard bc the divorce left him angry and bitter and he wanted to focus on being the dad Grace deserved.

And also the man he wanted he wasn’t sure he could get. Steve was everything he could hope for but nothing ever happened…No matter how much he made it obvious. And any time he wanted to be bold himself something happened. And he wasn’t immune to being human and wanting to fix Grace’s family for her sake but that’s really why he even looked at Rachel that kind of way when her marriage to Stan seem to weaken…

It’s an accumulated to having to be content with the strong family he’s built on the island bc of Steve…that’d have to be good enough.

That’s the story he tells the group of hot young gay guys as he’s dragged out to a gay club on one of his free nights. He also protects the group from both a creeper in the club and a homophobe in the streets.

In thanks they buy him drinks and listen to him go on and on and on about Steve.

Of course they begin to plot. But after Danny’s tired they all go back to his place and they put in Top Gun and make points of how gay the navy is (I’ve yet to watch either top gun movie but I’ve been lead believe it is v gay)

But anyway, in romcom fashion (and I’m not one for romcoms…The situations to make it work carry a lot of embarrassment and it gives me second hand embarrassment and I just can’t, but fic is different) Steve arrives at Danny’s…unannounced, with a key, to find Danny sleeping nestled between a lot of hot, young, ripped guys who are in different states of dress and are all very comfortable.

That’s all I got for now. I’ve been chasing inspiration all month and it’s been trying…so I’m glad of any ideas.

don’t think I’ve mentioned anything about it before? But I’ve been watching hawaii five 0 at the most glacial pace ever - it’s been what? Two months? And I’m - okay i just checked. I’ve got a few minutes of episode 8 of season 1 to watch. That’s fucking ridiculous, I’m a binge watcher! But honestly i do not care one bit for the cop stuff (which is why it’s not going faster. I’ve even skipped scenes which i usually never do but i DO. NOT. CARE) But oh, mcdanno is really everything tumblr promises, even that soon, like if i didn’t know how it ends already (and a few other things) i would expect one of them (steve, definitely steve) to drop to one knee any time and the 9 subsequent seasons to be about (and only about) their married life because dammmmn they got it bad

h50 8x03 when harry tells steve he remembers the interrogation room well and danny keeps looking at steve like “what does he mean?” “what did you two do when i wasn’t here?” “babe?”

You know what's really interesting here, apart from @teruel-a-witch tags?

Their faces. Yes, the conman is playing them so they cannot detect him rightly. Yes, he's playing on their marriedness to divide them and get the upper hand.

But he manages in his intent because both Danny and Steve, too, are actually lost in their own marriedness dynamic.

Look at Danny. He's not nervous, not ranting, not tense. He sports that gorgeous, flirty smile that he usually sports when Steve does something goof or soft or human, and Danny’s proven right in his testosterone filled marshmallow theory. Maybe he's doing it unconsciously, but Danny needs to feel validated and appreciated, and after Matty and after Charlie, and with a seething Steve in the first throes of the post-Cath fiasco starting to carve their nasty path into his emotional balance, he's more alone and angry and irritated than ever. He could make a move now but God forbid he exposes himself once again to failure, he cannot stand Steve's anger like Cath was the woman of his life or what, and are starting to drift apart...So, having a tall, dark, handsome stranger (who would've thought Danny had a type....), even if a perp, flirting with him, appreciating him, cooing him, taking his side against Steve’s jerkiness, is probably too strong of a lure to resist. Danny’s weak now (have you ever seen him this relaxed and open and like, soft, when with anyone in the car beside himself and Steve? Never), and the conman tracks this need and uses it against them.

Now look at Steve. That's the most perfect crossover between Constipated Face and Aneurysm Face I've ever seen. The annoyance, the hurt, the need to punch both the perp AND Danny is bleeding out of him, and he only resists because he's been trained to compartmentalize. He's hurt. He's especially hurt that Danny is this soft and flirting, and he's hurt that someone is offering Danny the comfort he would want to offer but cannot because he's So Fucking Angry with how it went down again with someone he trusted, so why should it ever go differently with Danny? But if he doesn't make a move, he knows someone else could make it, and god! He knows Melissa doesn't stand a chance and Danny is mostly using her to fill his loneliness and because Steve had just taken Catherine at Five-0 and to avoid committing seriously to someone. But he doesn't want anyone to make a move on his boy, because he cannot have him so no one else can.

Now look at the moment when the conman tries to bring Danny to fistbump him. Look at Steve's face when he's trying to anticipate if Danny will really fucking go with it. Look at Danny smiling all coy and maybe...maybe he really would go for it....but then he lifts his gaze and meets Steve's eyes, and lowers his gaze again and smiles all coquettish, and then refuses but not like he's really sure about it, but his hubby SAW him flirting and is angry and he stops immediately. Last gif, indeed, Danny is almost embarrassed and again closed, because he's been caught and he knows he's overstepped. Why? Look again at Steve's face in the second to last gif, after Danny has refused. He sort of turn upwards his face and gazes away.

Random thoughts about Hawaii Five-0 rewatch: part 5/?

Sorry. I am so, so sorry, but remember how in 9x21 we learn that actually Danny does love cats and did use to have a cat, but since that useless thing called Rachel claimed to be "allergic" (yeah, heard that before, bitch...), he had to get rid of his?

Sorry, but the sequence of faces Steve goes through after learning this information?! Sorry. Again. But that's not heterosexual, like...at all.

I’m over here absolutely ecstatic about how well done this 3 part premiere is. The disaster, the heart, the humor it’s all there. It’s like a fresh start.

Thoughts have been percolating as I showered after the end of the episode because I don’t necessarily think Tommy is gonna be Buck’s next relationship. Hear me out.

First off, the look Buck and Tommy shared didn’t scream more than a thanks to me. At least on Buck’s end. Tommy did appear in the middle of them for a brief moment suggesting a possible foreshadowing moment.

However, Eddie heads off first. This signals to me that Eddie is much more ahead of Buck in terms of loving himself and living for himself. And calls back to Ryan’s interviews stating he’s happier and more free. And no I don’t think Marisol will tie into this at all.

Then we get the brief look of thanks and pat between Buck and Tommy. It’s brief and it’s signals that maybe Tommy is more into Buck.

Then Buck leaves and follows Eddie. Because ultimately that’s his future he’s striving for.

Tommy and Buck may have a minor flirtation. But not a relationship because Buck just got out of one. Buck is the one now that has to start living for himself and loving himself. Tommy can set that in motion.

I have no doubt that Tommy will set something in motion for Buddie. Either by flirting with Buck, making him flustered because he doesn’t know how to handle a man flirting with him that isn’t Eddie. Or Tommy trying to recruit one of them and it spurs a conversation of them not wanting to leave the 118.

I don’t see anything coming out of this Tommy bit other than being used as a plot device. Oliver said Buck has to get off the hamster wheel and live. He has to learn to love himself before anything starts with Eddie.

Also guys we have gotten one or two glimpses of Tommy in BtS and stills. Everything else is Buck and Eddie. The promos, the stills. Buddie is more in sync on screen than ever. And they haven’t had a scene apart yet. (Chris and Buck with Eddie listening at the door still counts).

And yes, I would love see my jealous, petty Eddie again. Because that is one of my favorite versions of Eddie.

Also I would love a verbal I love you between Buck and Eddie. Even a platonic I love you (ie the McDanno I love you). Just something to cement what these two have goes deeper than friendship (and deeper than brothers. Come on guys).
