Maybe for the sake of everyone in the Gilded house including himself, Phoenix needs to live elsewhere after all is said and done. Like you said, his curse is forever, and unless something changes, it just feels like the current living situation is not good for anyone, especially if it's permanent
Lemme get this straight. Your solution is for Phoenix to exile himself from everyone he knows and loves (sans Darius), therefore isolating himself from his support system (Caleb and Jason, and, to a lesser extent, Cherry, Sam, and Evelyn), because of a condition that he cannot help. As well as depriving Ghost of their Nee-Nee, who they are INCREDIBLY attached to. Yeah. Something IS going to change, but it's not going to be Phoenix's living situation. There's going to be compromise. Phoenix is going to find a system of management and take precautions, and the other grims are going to learn to live with the curse being there.
Aside from a couple of minor stings/burns that came from people directly touching it (something everyone now knows not to do), and maybe some bruises on Ash from Phoenix saving their life (and any method of saving them from that fall would have left bruises), the curse has not hurt anyone in the family. Phoenix is the one taking the most damage from it (stressed joints and bones, loss of energy, it literally eating him alive when it gets testy). Even in situations where the curse COULD have easily hurt someone innocent (like when Phoenix fought the scouts, or when Novus' contraption went haywire), it didn't. And, of course, Phoenix ended up using it to save Caleb and Ash. There is, technically speaking, no precedent of Phoenix's curse being particularly dangerous to anyone in the house. The curse is most harmful to Phoenix himself. So like Ash said, it wouldn't be fair to kick Phoenix out over a perceived danger where there likely is none.
That being said: obviously, the grims have had negative experiences with the curse when someone else had it. It's left them with lasting trauma. To say "just deal, your fears are invalid" is unduly cruel. While there TECHNICALLY and LOGICALLY is nothing to fear, we all know that fear and trauma are not going to be logical, so it wouldn't be right to ignore their feelings. They're going to need some way to negate possible panic attacks; Phoenix may have to remove himself to his room if he feels the curse's effects coming on, or at the very least, give fair warning to the other grims so that they can remove themselves or prepare themselves if they feel it's necessary.
On the whole, when Phoenix is having a good, no curse day, when he's literally just existing, he should not have to censor his existence from his own family just because they know that he's cursed. That would be awful. Even when he is having a bad curse day, while him moving away from grims who might be triggered by one of his attacks is reasonable, erasing him entirely from the family's presence (and, again, his support system) would be unfair.
The last thing that needs to be considered when thinking about this is: it has been one day. While that one day has translated into 2 VERY long chapters that took me actual months to put out, the time in fic that has passed between when Phoenix had his first big attack and the present is less than 24 hours. Everyone's still sorting out their feelings, so you can't make a judgement on what the best step would be right now. Initial gut reactions are still in play, and there hasn't been space for everyone to sit down, find a management system, and think themselves through everything.
Like Sam said, "they'll get used to it." Even just in that 24 hour time frame, Novus, Sam, Cherry, and Matt have already "gotten used to it" or at least gotten to a place where the curse doesn't matter to them because it's still Phoenix. And that's just grims who have come to that realization as seen in fic. The actual number of grims who have already reached a "don't care" status is probably greater. In the end, it's only going to be a select few who will have a continuing extreme reaction to Phoenix's curse, and finding a management/warning system so that they'll be able to comfortably live with each other won't be as difficult with those low numbers. Give it time. They'll figure it out.

Greek Mythology and Julie & the Phantoms
My first watch through of Julie and the Phantoms (JATP), I noticed a few similarities and parallels to certain myths within Greek mythology. On my million rewatches, I paid more attention to see if there were others. This post is all my observations of the parallels, as well as a few possible theories for season 2 the writers could follow for certain storylines. This is a ridiculously long read, I apologize.
**Disclaimers:
There are spoilers, so if you haven’t finished watching for the first time yet, don’t read this.
The content in Greek myths can vary depending on the source. This is largely due to the fact they are just super old. So some of the myths might be slightly different. I did my best just to compare to the gist of the myth.
I’m going to refer to Luke, Reggie, and Alex together as either Sunset Curve or the boys to save space.
I apologize for any typos and mistakes; midterm season has left me with an empty head.
1. Orpheus
Obviously a major motif in the first season is the Orpheum. Orpheum literally means House of Orpheus.
Background information of Orpheus:
His mother is Calliope (muse of epic poetry), and depending on the version of the story, his father is either Apollo (god of the sun, healing, music, medicine, archery, and poetry) or King Oeagrus of Thrace.
Orpheus was considered to be one of the greatest musicians. He had a “divinely gifted voice that could charm anyone who heard it,” no god or mortal could resist his music.
Let’s look at some of his myths.
Orpheus and Eurydice:
The basic summary of this myth is that Eurydice, Orpheus’ wife, died after being bitten by snakes while running away from a man, Aristaeus, or a satyr (depends on source) who wanted her for himself. Devastated, Orpheus began singing sad songs until he was advised by nymphs to go to the Underworld and bring her back. After singing to Hades and Persephone, they agreed to let Eurydice return to the main world. However, they warned him not to look back before they both entered the light of the surface. He happily began his trek back to the surface. When Orpheus reached the exit, Eurydice in toe, he turned around to see her, anxious to make sure it wasn’t a trick, that she was really there. Only, Eurydice was still in the Underworld, she hadn’t crossed over yet. Orpheus turning around when he did, caused Eurydice to remain in the underworld.
So who’s who?
Julie = Orpheus (talented musician and desperate to save their love from the Underworld)
Sunset Curve = Eurydice (dead and trapped)
Caleb = Aristaeus and Hades (wants Eurydice/Sunset Curve for himself; controls the place the dead are)
Hollywood Ghost Club (HGC) = The Underworld
How do they relate? Stand Tall (s1e09) is where it all goes down.
Like Aristaeus, Caleb is pursing Sunset Curve because he wants them for himself (and Caleb is also threaten by the power they have).
Caleb has the boys trapped in the HGC, just like Eurydice in the Underworld.
Julie had to deal with the idea the boys died (again) when they didn’t show up before the performance. At first she couldn’t, she ran out until she had a sign from her mom, telling her to go on stage. You could argue this sort of parallels the nymphs telling Orpheus to plea to Hades, or that it parallels Orpheus on his journey back to the surface after Hades agreed.
This is where Julie and Orpheus differ. Julie goes onstage, fully believing in the sign from her mother; that even if the boys don’t come, she can do it. The lyrics of Stand Tall are pure genius. “Keep moving on, never look back.” That’s exactly what Julie does. Unlike Orpheus, Julie doesn’t look back. And the boys appear, no longer trapped by Caleb at the HGC. Julie breaks away from the Orpheus formula and wins.
@multifandomterrors wrote an essay on how it relates too! She has three theories of how it fits and I definitely recommend you check it out!
Bonus reasons Julie is Orpheus:
Orpheus joined Jason and the Argonauts. When the ship was approaching the Sirens, Orpheus saves the crew from death by playing his own music, drowning out the Sirens’ Song. Likewise, Julie is able to save the boys from Caleb. You can argue that her singing Stand Tall acted as a beacon, beckoning the boys away from Caleb and back to her, saving them in the process.
This one is more of a long shot but oh well. Orpheus is said to have a “divinely gifted voice that could charm anyone who heard it,” that no god or mortal could resist his music. The boys say that Julie has “the voice of an angel.” Throughout the season, as soon as Julie starts to sing, people are generally drawn in, even Carrie by the end.
Onto the next parallel...
2. Lotus Eaters
As soon as the slightest idea of the boys missing the dance was hinted at I knew it was going to happen because ~formulas~, but once they got to the HGC, I had a strong feeling it was going to be a Lotus Eaters situation.
Summary of the Lotus Eaters:
In The Odyssey, Odysseus and his crew encounter the Lotus Eaters. They do as their name suggests, they eat the peculiar Lotus flower. When the lotus flower is eaten, those who eat it are “overcome with a blissful forgetfulness,” and want to do nothing more than stay where they are. The crew mates had to be dragged back to the ship, otherwise they never would have returned to their duties. The most well known adaptation of this is probably the Lotus Casino in Percy Jackson & the Olympians series, where the characters spend days/years there, only thinking it was a few hours/days. It’s a time warp per se.
So what’s what?
Hollywood Ghost Club =  Lair/island of the lotus eaters (everyone there appears to have no other worries in life)
The music & dancing = Lotus flower (sucks everyone in)
How do they relate?
Once Caleb starts performing, Sunset Curve are sucked in. Eventually, they are overcome with a “blissful forgetfulness” and forget about Julie and the dance. They only get sucked back out once Caleb mentions it’s the witching hour.
Alex literally says “This place is some sort of time warp.”
When the boys try to leave, the dancers and then Caleb try to reel them back in.
The next is not directly Greek mythology, but distantly related:
3. Disney’s Hercules
The story in Disney’s Hercules isn’t exactly what the myths of Heracles are. It’s Disney, so of course the stories are romanticized and changed significantly. First of all, in the original myths, Hercules is really named Heracles, and Megara is nothing more than Heracles’ wife that ends with a tragic story.
In the movie, Hades wants Hercules dead since he is the only one that can ruin his plan to take over the world. He enlists Megara (or Meg, whose soul he owns) to get to know him and find his weakness. As Meg gets to know Hercules, they fall in love. Hades uses this as Hercules’ weakness, and once he outs Meg for working for him, Hercules is emotionally defeated. However, he still gives up his power for 24 hours, as long as Meg remains untouched by harm. Of course that doesn’t happen, and Meg dies while saving Hercules. Her soul is returned to the Underworld, and Hercules journeys down there to save her, even though he might die doing so. Except he doesn’t; he saves Meg, and it’s happily ever after.
So who’s who?
Alex = Hercules
Willie = Meg
Caleb = Hades
How does it relate?
Like Hades wants Hercules dead, Caleb wants Alex (and the boys) under his control because they are too powerful. He’s threatened by them.
Even though Willie didn’t mean to bring the boys into the mess with Caleb, he still did (no hate, I love my son). Willie acts as Meg in this situation because Caleb still uses him to get to the boys. Caleb gets to put his stamp on them.
Willie, just like Meg, decides to not help Caleb anymore, though he’s still stuck. He cares about Alex, he doesn’t want him to be stuck at the HGC like him forever; he doesn’t want Caleb to own Alex’s soul. So, Willie helps Alex and the boys with their plan to crossover.
In Stand Tall, right before You’ve Got Nothing to Lose, Caleb appeals to each of the boys’ weakness. Caleb says “Everything you want, including Willie, is right here.” Just like Hades uses Meg against Hercules, Caleb uses Willie against Alex.
Potential Season 2 Willex Storyline
The parallel to Hercules and Meg isn’t finished. Alex hasn’t saved Willie from Caleb yet, and Caleb hasn’t been defeated yet. We don’t see Willie after the Willex hug in Stand Tall. I think it’s safe to assume that Willie is not safe from Caleb, especially since he helped Sunset Curve escape Caleb’s curse. There’s a lot of things that could happen. One of my assumptions is that Caleb is going to use Willie as bait to lure Alex back in. Another is that, like how Hercules goes to the Underworld to save Meg’s soul,  Alex is going to actively choose to return to the HGC to try to save Willie from Caleb.
And the last parallel to Greek mythology in season 1...
4. Cheyenne Jackson
He plays Hades in Descendants 3, a Disney movie, meaning he’s the same Hades as in Hercules.
Caleb Covington, you could argue is the “king of the dead” in JATP
That’s it, that’s the parallel.
Possible Season 2 Storylines
Cephalus and Procris (I’m not as familiar with this myth, but it basically goes like this)
Cephalus and Procris are happily married and very in love with each other. One day, the goddess of dawn, Eos, kidnaps Cephalus because she wants him to herself. Depending on the version you read, Cephalus either sleeps with Eos, or he doesn’t, but regardless, his only concern is how much he loves his wife, Procris. Eos finds that annoying, and plants the idea in his head that Procris is cheating on him when she releases him eight years later. Cephalus returns to Procris, disguised as another man, to see if she would remain faithful. A disguised Cephalus continuously brings Procris presents, and slowly, Procris is swayed by the mysterious man. When Cephalus reveals himself, Procris runs away, ashamed, and joins Artemis’ hunt. Eos wins essentially. She get’s Cephalus... until Procris returns, trying to make amends with her husband. He takes her back, but not long after Procris hears rumors that Cephalus has been unfaithful. She follows him on a hunt, hiding behind a bush. Cephalus hears a bush move, and thinking it’s an animal, he shoots, killing Procris. In the end, Eos still wins as Procris is no longer in the picture, and she could theoretically be with him. Expect Cephalus exiles himself and Eos is never seen again.
How could this apply to JATP season 2?
Julie = Procris
Luke = Cephalus
Caleb = Eos
Caleb-Possessed-Nick = Disguised man
Since Caleb possessed Nick at the end, I assume his plan is to get Julie to pick Nick, thus pushing Luke away from her. Caleb wants Luke and the boys to himself, and as long as Julie is in the picture, that won’t happen. As Caleb-Possessed-Nick tries to flirt and get closer to Julie, Luke will see this and get jealous. His jealousness could lead to tensions between Julie and Luke, making the band a bit awkward, maybe even a big fight that pushes Luke to think about joining Caleb, or at least isolating himself where Caleb would have easy access. I think it would be a very loosely applied parallel, but the idea of Caleb working to cause a rift between Luke and Julie to get Luke by himself is a major possibility. Regardless, Caleb-Possessed-Nick is going to get in the way of Luke and Julie’s slow burn pining for each other.
A General Thought Not Related to Greek Mythology
Regardless of what the writers end up doing, I think Caleb’s best plan would be to target the boys individually; like the continuance of the Hercules parallel with Willex and potential Cephalus & Procris parallel with Juke. I don’t know how he would isolate Reggie, maybe something with his family, but targeting the boys one-on-one would be the most strategic move for Caleb. He could even get super manipulative with it. He could say something like “Alex already agreed” or something along those lines to try to persuade the boy he is talking to.
Additionally, I don’t have any theories on where Carrie and Julie’s relationship may go, but i’m looking forward to a Carrie redemption arc. As far as where Bobby fits in, I read someone’s theory that Caleb may approach him, offering to help keep his reputation as Trevor Wilson, if he helps deal with the boys somehow. I’m sure there’s a potential greek myth that fits a potential Bobby and the boys storyline, but out of the ones I can think of right now, there aren’t. Betrayal is a huge theme in greek mythology though.
Anyway...
While the original target audience was kids and the show probably wasn’t meant to be this deep, as a screenwriter myself, I find it super useful (and fun) to parallel classic stories and myths when I write. It can add a sense of nuance to the story, especially when done right. I hope the writers (assuming at least the Orpheus and Lotus Eaters parallels were intentional) continue to parallel the season with some form of myth or classic story, only to then completely flip the ending.
If you actually took the time to read ALL of this, my god, I applaud you, you amazing human. Thank you so much for reading it. I’d love to hear what y’all think or what theories y’all have as well!

Casey Affleck Gets Philosophical About Life, Time & The Whole Damn Thing
“Time,” reflects Casey Affleck, “is something I have been thinking about lately. It is ironic how the older you get, the better you are at being patient. With less time left, people become better at waiting. But this year, I feel much older and a lot less patient. I guess you’ve got to accept that time is never wasted? That doing is no different than not doing? That you can’t kill time no matter what you do, and that no matter what you do you can’t prevent the opposite from happening either? I don’t know. It’s a double-edged sword.”
It’s a Wednesday afternoon in early January, and Affleck and I are doing the Zoom thing, ostensibly to discuss his two new movies, the recently released indie Our Friend and the upcoming 19th-century period drama The World to Come. Yet our virtual tête-à-tête has become far more interesting, jumping wildly from his love of trains and travel to weightier topics like family, the future and the search for something more, something meaningful.
“I like the idea that time is an illusion. That past, present and future are all happening at once. I like it even though I can’t totally get my head around it. But either way, the me in the mirror gets older every day.”
Like most of us, he’s not only had plenty of time on his hands in recent months, housebound in L.A., but he’s tried to use his downtime wisely. “I tried to use this year of quarantine constructively,” the 45-year-old Oscar winner says. “I tried to see it as a winter season for shutting down and restoring something inside, but I just couldn’t. I’m not that evolved, I guess. I didn’t take up a new hobby or learn an instrument or get better at ‘self-care.’ If anything, I let my better habits and routines fall off. It was all I could do to keep my head above water and help buoy my friends and children when I could.”
As a guy with two teenagers at home — Indiana, 16, and Atticus, 13 — it hasn’t been easy, but he’s doing his best. He tried taking his sons on their annual camping road trip over the summer, but it was short-lived. Instead, he’s been focusing on making a happy home. “My kids don’t get to see their friends a lot, so I’m doing a lot more stuff with them, coming up with activities for the three of us, which they mostly hate, and I mostly let drop. And then I try again with the same outcome 90 percent of the time.”
While trying to create innovative plans to sustain his boys, he came up with one he thought might do some good, too. In June, he launched Stories from Tomorrow, a social-media initiative focused on creative writing by kids.
“At the beginning of all this last March, the first thing that occurred to me was that the quarantine would have a big impact on young people’s emotional well-being — the disruption they’re going to feel is really going to affect their mental health more than anyone else,” he says. “When I would sit down to write creatively, I felt better. But I couldn’t get my sons to journal or do creative writing much. I didn’t want to twist their arms about it. So I was like, ‘I’ll make a social media platform that inspires young people to write creatively, because it is such a good way of working out difficult feelings. And the way I will do that is have well-known people read the kids’ writing publicly.’ I knew that hearing your own writing read was exciting. I thought it would be really inspiring, that creative writing would be a great outlet for kids stuck at home.”
He enlisted some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Robert Redford, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Jon Hamm, Matthew Broderick, Kyle Chandler and Danny Glover, as well as two current costars, Vanessa Kirby and Jason Segel, and arranged for donations made through the program to go to children’s hunger nonprofit Feeding America and Room to Read, which supports female education. He reached out to schools in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Haiti, hoping to create a global community.
Affleck was excited to make progress, to have done some good, but the initiative didn’t take off as planned. “In the end, an Instagram account for creative writing by tweens just couldn’t possibly compete with the quintillion bytes of daily data generated online. I don’t know. But I tried! And anyway, since then lots of other organizations started doing basically the same thing, and they are more organized than I am, and they have done a better job. So be it.”
Yet, adults have been disrupted, too, including Affleck himself, who is aware that, relatively speaking, he has gotten through mostly unscathed. “Am I happy? I mean, I’m relatively okay. It’s been a hard time to find balance and to keep it. I would say it’s been a hard time in my life, but I know that it’s been harder for other folks. So far we haven’t lost anyone, and we haven’t lost our house. And I rediscovered that when you’re feeling bad, there’s nothing better to do than to try to help other people. Being of service not only helps others but is a great way of getting outside of yourself. Also — and I really believe this — I think this time will be remembered as one when our country made leaps and bounds in the right direction; we are changing and growing and it’s uncomfortable, but we will be much, much better. I wish I could see the next couple hundred years. It’s going to be amazing.”
At the end of the day, it’s family that’s keeping him going. “Having my kids around and being able to spend so much time with them has been amazing. It is the brightest silver lining in all of this. They are what gives me the most joy. They are funny and smart and interesting and interested. They are just the best company ever,” he says. “Anytime I try to parent out some ‘teaching moment,’ I find they are two steps ahead. They help me make sense of stuff just as much I help them, if not more. I don’t have any answers, but batting the questions around, back and forth, is a good way of coping.”
Tumblr media
CALEB CASEY MCGUIRE AFFLECK-BOLDT feels he is luckier than most. Although he and many of his peers have gone jobless for a full year, he spent 2019 working hard. He had not one but three films done and dusted prior to the start of the pandemic; the last one wrapped a week before mandatory quarantine. Two of these have back-to-back release dates: the tearjerker indie Our Friend came out in January, and sweeping period drama The World to Come will be released February 12. Thriller Every Breath You Take is slated for later this year. “I am so, so, so glad I spent 2019 working that much. It is what kept us afloat all through 2020,” he says.
The films themselves are radically different, but there are a few common threads. In both of his winter releases, Affleck plays a man who has lost a family member and whose marriage is in shambles. In both, he is a man in pain.
In the LGBTQ masterpiece The World to Come, which revolves around the love that blossoms between two married women on the mid-19th-century American frontier, his character, Dyer, says very little but manages to convey a wealth of emotion with his eyes alone. He may seem stoic, but he is suffering.
“The World to Come is a story about a couple who have lost a baby. They’re dealing with the grief in totally different ways and having a very hard time coming together again,” he explains. “My character wants to heal that by having another, but his wife [played by Katherine Waterson] is coping in a different way. She is severing all emotional attachment to him because it triggers more and more grief. She [only] seems to come alive when she is with their neighbor, a woman on the next farm [played by Vanessa Kirby]. He wants his wife happy, but he also would like her to love him. To me, this is the story of how couples can have their relationship shattered by a sudden loss. And it’s definitely a beautiful story about two women who feel that they have to hide their love and find the courage to love each other anyway.”
Affleck likes layers. He himself has many, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he’s drawn to roles written as fully formed characters, not caricatures. With Dyer, that’s abundantly clear. “Crisis is fun to play, [and Dyer] is in an interesting crisis,” he says. “I think he’s a really good person — a really decent, solid, loving person — which is what I loved so much about playing him and what I love so much about the writing. It’s more interesting when there’s no bad guy, just a conflict of circumstances and feelings that get so complicated that it drives two people apart.”
In Our Friend, a different set of circumstances drives the leads apart. Affleck and Dakota Johnson take on the true story of Matthew and Nicole Teague, whose imperfect marriage was strained by his long absences and her affair, neither of which seem at all important when she’s diagnosed with terminal cancer.
“To me, Our Friend is really a story about how petty grievances between people can divide them and then be forgotten when a gigantic tragedy is dropped in their laps. [Matthew] was wronged, it’s true — his wife cheated on him. On the other hand, he wronged her in a bunch of ways; [they] were just more passive and not quite so salacious. He wasn’t around. Matt got to be a dad and he got to travel the world as a journalist. He left her to take care of the kids. She wanted to have a life too, she had dreams of her own — she wanted to be a singer, she wanted to work — but she didn’t get to do that. She just got to be a mom. She was left holding the bag, and it wasn’t fair.”
He spent a fair amount of time immersing himself in the journalist’s life while filming in Fairhope, Ala., in 2019. (The film’s title is taken from Teague’s award-winning Esquire essay, “The Friend: Love Is Not a Big Enough Word.” The friend in question — played by Jason Segel — is a man who puts his life on hold to help the family during their darkest days.) But he did not become Matt Teague, which is an important distinction. “[Director] Gabriella Cowperthwaite asked that we not portray the personality traits of the real people. No accents, no mannerisms. [But] I did steal his style, because I had never seen someone nail the dad look any better than Matt. I say that with affection.”
As for the dreams Nicole gave up for her family, Affleck says, “If you were to ask Matt, I’m sure he would acknowledge that he was neglecting his role. He was neglecting her dreams, and that is a part of marriage, supporting what the other person wants. Like all relationships, it was complicated.”
Like life itself, really. This is why he can identify with both sides. He understands Nicole’s pain about the deference of her dreams as well as Matt’s desire to escape through travel — especially now, when Affleck himself has been completely grounded. Since the age of 17 he’s taken 20 cross-country road trips. His love of driving is secondary only to his enthusiasm for trains: Amtrak is his jam. He even fantasizes about owning his own train car one day.
Immersing himself in each location — whether it’s the sleepy Alabama town of Fairhope or the more exotic locale of Romania, which served as a stand-in for the East Coast of the U.S. in The World to Come — is actually one of the most desirable parts of the acting life, he says. “One of the things I love about working as an actor is that you go to some brand-new place and the community invites you in in a way that they don’t usually if you’re a tourist,” he confides. “You get to see what it’s like to really be there and imagine yourself living there.”
And he has — over the past ten years he’s spent so much time in cities including his hometown of Boston; Vancouver, British Columbia, the location of Light of My Life; Atlanta, where he shot the 2016 action flick Triple 9; Argentina, where he made Gerry; Dallas, for A Ghost Story; Calgary, Alberta, where much of the epic western The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford was filmed; Our Friend’s Fairhope set; Cincinnati, for The Old Man and the Gun; and Braddock, Pa., where he filmed the 2013 drama Out of the Furnace. “I have loved moving in and settling down and living a character’s life and then moving on. But I feel most at home in places that are struggling to get by. It reminds me of the neighborhood I grew up in. I feel lighter in those places, more relaxed. I feel like myself. I fit in.”
For him, the where is almost as important as the who — immersing himself in the place is imperative to understanding his character. This is part of what makes him such an accomplished actor — he and most of the parts he plays merge. I draw a crappy analogy about how the characters are like a coat, which he very obligingly works with. “You have to build the coat from all of the scraps and pieces of yourself; all these characters are made up of little pieces of me,” he says, noting, “Obviously, sometimes they can’t be. Sometimes I have no connection whatsoever, and those are the jobs I look back on and I either feel nothing for, or worse. But sometimes you have to take the job that is available, like most people in the world. You know? I don’t think my dad wanted to be a janitor. But he did it.”
Tumblr media
He’s won an Oscar, a BAFTA, a Critics’ Choice Award, a Golden Globe and an Independent Spirit Award, among others, and appeared in films that run the gamut from box-office juggernauts like the Ocean’s 11 franchise and Tower Heist to indie darlings like brother Ben’s directorial debut Gone Baby Gone and Manchester by the Sea. He has even written and directed, most recently 2019’s Light of My Life, a bizarrely prescient movie about raising children in a pandemic. At this point in his career, he should have his pick of parts. “Not really,” he says. “There are a lot of people out there who have done good work, who are driven, and who have something to share. I have never been someone studios embraced as a ‘movie star,’ never knighted. I have always had to fight for the parts I have gotten. And you know what? That’s fine. Let me fight. It’s how I cut my teeth, and it is how I will keep them sharp. You can’t ask for more than a chance to be in the ring. Also, movies and TV aren’t all I care about. Sometimes I think, ‘Well, jeez, I have to work, and there are two jobs available to me, and the one that isn’t as good is the one that is close to home and I can see the kids, so I guess I am doing that.’ I love movies and really try hard to make them good. I really bust my ass every day when I get the chance to make one. I care more about my family than any movie. It’s not [always] the job I love, but this is the reality of my life. But maybe life will be long enough for a few more chapters.
The forward momentum of his future is an interesting topic. At the moment, he isn’t so much planning for the future as he is exploring it, because Affleck is not someone who likes to live with regret.
“I guess [at the end of the day], regret should be reframed as a reminder to be different,” he observes. And so, with this in mind, he embarked on a personal journey several years ago and decided to go back to college (at the Simon Fraser University in British Columbia). He had completed two years at Columbia University, but he never graduated — his film career kept getting in the way.
“I went back to school because I hadn’t finished, and I wanted to think about new things in a way that school can help you do,” he says. “I couldn’t go in person, so I found a strong online school and got started. You know, I’m 45, and I just thought, ’This is halftime. This is where you hit the locker room and think about how you want the rest of the game to go.’ You know what I mean? Like, ‘Okay, we went out, we played our best, we didn’t know what the other team was going to be like, we made some mistakes, we are in the game, so let’s adjust like this.’ Also, I’m not sure I want to be an actor forever. I had made a small pivot from acting into directing, and into producing more. And I like to direct movies. The most satisfying creative experience I’ve had in a long time was being a director. But ultimately it wasn’t quite enough. So I wanted to go study some of the things I was interested in. I wanted to do more with my life.”
Although he needed general credits to graduate, he found an unexpected passion for juvenile justice along the way, with a particular focus on alternative accountability programs. “I don’t know where this will lead me, or why I am so interested in it, but finding and implementing better systems for addressing harm and conflict among kids, adults too, but mostly young people, is something I care about. And the work that I have done so far has been fascinating and deeply rewarding.”
When I ask if this stems from his own experiences as a troubled kid growing up in Cambridge, Mass., with Christine, a single mom — his parents divorced when he was 9; his father, Timothy, an alcoholic tradesman, checked into a rehab facility in Indio, Calif., when Affleck was just 14 — he muses thoughtfully, “I love my parents and think they both did the very best they could and cared a lot. Period. Did I get into some trouble as a teenager? I got into some trouble when I was a kid, and I struggled a lot through high school with depression and substances, yes. Much of it I didn’t even know wasn’t normal. I don’t know if I was ‘troubled.’ Either way, as an adult, I’ve come to see that, regardless of how I compare to anyone else, I want less conflict in my life. That might be part of the reason why I’ve been so interested in learning about better ways of resolving conflicts, both with children and with grown-ups. It isn’t something they teach in school for some reason. Man, there is a lot they don’t teach you in school, huh? A lot you’ve got to learn on your own.”
And on this journey, mistakes will be made. That’s par for the course, and Affleck is no exception. “I have made so many mistakes, but life is the time for mistakes. I do believe people should hold themselves accountable and repair harm they have caused. That is important to me, and I try hard to do that whenever it is called for: apologize for mistakes and repair them,” he admits.
This is when our conversation, as such conversations are wont to do, comes full circle. Before we say goodbye, Affleck remarks, “You know, I heard Bono talking on Howard Stern’s show, and he said something about Frank Sinatra that was interesting. He said that he heard two versions of Frank singing ‘My Way.’ One version was recorded when Frank was young, and the other version was recorded when Frank was old. Each had the exact same words, same arrangement, same everything. But when Frank was young the line ‘I did it my way’ sounded proud, and when Frank was old it sounded humble. Whatever else time does to a person, I think it also does that.”

A/N : “ hey all! So this is a semi request lol the imaginer came up with Jason trying to find you. While you and the girls are locked in the doll house. And then being saved and a big hug. Hopefully it’s good. Like 90% of my imagine I didn’t proof read. Theirs a reason. It’s a heat wave here and I just don’t have it in me to proof read lol but hopefully its good and you enjoy! ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ “This isn’t happening!” That is the only thought Jason Dilaurentis had. Jason watched his sister on trail for murdering Mona. Was tough But for him to watch you! You! his only reason to stay sober, for living! The love of his life. You! who’s only fault was when A came knocking. And offered you the chance to get your revenge. On Ali. You refused A’s offer because hurting Ali meant hurting Jason. It was a simple decision. You loved Jason more then you hated Alison. Those Everyone loved and hated Ali. Ali mocked Hanna for her weight, Spencer with her taste in her sisters boyfriend , Emily being gay , Aria for her dad cheating on her mom. And you. Out of all the girls Ali mocked you the most. You have theories why Ali hated you, you stuck up for yourself, you been madly in love with Jason since you moved across the street from him. Whatever reason Ali hated you. It was mutual! Alison tried kicking you out of the group. The other girls enjoyed your company and wouldn’t let Ali kick you out of the group. But that only meant Ali bullied you 24/7. If it weren’t for your friends or Jason you would of left he group. When Ali “died” you went to a wicked witch is dead. Party. Cruel yes. But you hated Ali as much as Jena, Melisa, Paige. All of them. To be fair to Ali. The wicked witch is gone party happened two days after she left. You all assumed Ali just ran off. That’s when you found out Jason loved you. He was walking by the house party as you and others were screaming / singing “Ding dong the witch is dead.” Jason caught you. He dragged you out of the party. Screaming at you . You had no problem screaming at him back. The two of you screamed at each other until you let it spill that you were in love with him The rest is history.
Jason was pacing in Ezra apartment all the loves of the girls were in the apartment. Trying to find the Liars. Ali, Toby, Caleb, Ezra. Even spencer’s parents were there. In the back corner looking thru boxes of information that Ezra collected for his book. Ali made a snarky comment about asking to do a exchange. Herself for aria, spencer, Emily and Hanna. Toby mentioned your name. Ali just rolled her eyes saying you were probably dead already. Jason snapped. He loved his sister. Even for all her faults. But he also Knew Ali. A liar would be a compliment for her. Ali tormented you for years. And he knew. The only reason the girls were even bullied, blamed for murder or hell even kidnapped was because of Ali. It started with her. Selfishly he wished it was Ali who was kidnapped vs you. But he would never admit that. ~in the doll house~ Stretched out on your bed. Well not your bed! Your bed wasn’t trapped in a creepy life size Doll house. And your window looked out to a small park. This “bedroom” for windows was just a picture of the park on the wall. You had to give it to A./ Charles / asshat. He decorated your room perfectly to match your room at home. On the mirror were pictures of you and Jason. On the wall around the mirror photos od everyone you loved. Minus one photo of Ali on the wall. Hearing the generator go off. You got up to your door opening it seeing the other girls all run out. You all charged towards down the hall. Spencer didn’t fallow Mona (who surprises everyone that she was alive) you follow Spencer into a vault like room. Seeing a picture of Jason with a boy. They were little kids. Spencer played a video. Seeing Jason, and Charles. And a Baby Ali. The other girls came in and one commented Hanna “ So A has a soul”. That was something Hanna use to tell you about Ali. The girls started a fire. Burning everything of Charles. You tried stopping them not because Charles didn’t deserve this. It was Charles the sicko who’s been tormenting you for years now. But because of common sense. Your locked in a creepy Doll house with no idea how to get out. With No windows. Once spencer noticed what you did. The fire was too large. When you finally found the exit. You were last up. Turning to see Charles in the hall. He stared at you wearing a Mask. Hiding his identity. You were about to climb up to escape. But your stomach stopped you. Well more your knowledge. Only four people knew this. Jason, some how Charles, the doctor and you. You were pregnant. Charles first day there gave you a note. “raise and shine bitch. That baby saved your life.” A has a soul that repeated in your mind. He knew you were pregnant. He feed you only ridiculously healthy foods. He just watched you escape. But you knew deep down. Somehow Jason was related to this freak. He reminded you too much of Ali not to be. Getting up to fresh air. Seeing Jason he rushed over pulling you into a hug. You hugged him tightly crying. Jason held you closely asking how you and the baby were doing. You said fine. Everyone hugged each other. Cried while the police were charging into the doll house. Three weeks later Sitting on in a small booth. Your parents learned about your pregnancy and gave you a option. Abortion or move out. So you decided to move out. Jason instantly offered you a home with him. You both decided to leave. Your town was only murders and creeps. But you got a text from A. Wanting a face to face with you and Jason. Sending you to the middle of no where. Here you sat. Seeing A. Unmasked the only thing you could say was “holly crap” A explained their reasoning to do everything. But since you were pregnant and you were now family decided you were no longer a fun doll. The deal was simple. Never come back to Rosewood. And you and Jason could live a happily ever. The choice was simple. You agreed.

Why You Should Stop Hating Aria Montgomery: A PSA.
OUT of the four liars, Aria Montgomery is the one I related the most to. Aria Montgomery is every single one of us - starting with who she was as a teenager up until the most recent episodes. She’s human and I will fight you if you call her selfish like it’s flaw - no one isn’t selfish. It’s called self-preservation - you’d die without it. Anyways, let’s get started on this.
Aria & Ezra, Ezra & Aria....
Seasons 1-2, Ezria was definitely a favorite ship on the show. However, at the time, I wasn’t even aware of the concept of statutory rape. I mean, I was like 13 I believe? After the Season 4 rather nauseating revelation that Ezra not only actively sought out Aria in the bar while knowing how old she was, he’d previously been involved with her dead best friend. Now, if he’d approached Aria and introduced himself as an author interested in writing a story on her friend’s death, and Aria had agreed as a way to escape the stresses of her parent’s drama as well as to divulge just who alison really was (a fucking horrible person btw, i despise alison dilaurentis with every fiber of my being) -- i believe a more romantic arc would have been spun, all without the cringe-instilling shit they forced on us.
Now, on why Aria would marry Ezra, even after all he’s done.
Aria was at the most impressionable age of her life. Her parents’ lives was falling apart, she was being stalked by a god-knows-who who was out to get her and her friends, and she and her friends were still struggling with dealing with the way alison disappeared from their lives. After Alison’s disappearance, Aria’s the character who grew the most and become her own person, and as soon as Alison and her shit got reintroduced back into her life, all she’s built over a whole year was shattered -- she sought out the one person who gave her the sense of the person she was, and that was Ezra.
I’m not saying Ezra is a saint - no, he’s an asshole, and him getting shot for Aria and the girls doesn’t amend to his sins. But again, over the course of her high school life, Ezra may have the been only sane constant in Aria’s life. I won’t say it’s love that drove her to accept an eternal life with Ezra. But it’s a desire for a semblance of safety and stability. It’s a self-defense mechanism that a lot of population is open to doing. You can’t blame her for accepting to be with someone who’d tricked her like that - especially when he’s actively been trying to redeem himself since then.
When A.D. threatened to send Ezra to jail - Aria’s self-defense mechanism was to of course comply. It was a no brainer to her, and it would be a no brainer to all of us. She didn’t do it so that she and Ezra could get married, and she did not do it because she was afraid Ezra would find out about the report. If anything, Ezra deserves to be target practice for Aria’s self-defense classes and that would still not be enough to make up for what he’s done (Because everyone said that Aria was stupid for helping A.D. when Ezra knew about the report to begin with, but that’s not why Aria did this.)
Now, onto the good stuff --
the AriA BetrAyal ReveAl...
Before I begin discussing this, I wanna highlight on why A.D. chose Aria out of all the liars to do her bidding, and why not Spencer or Hanna or Emily (Alison’s not one of the liars she should have stayed dead.)
On the contrary to everyone’s quick jump to conclusion, Aria’s actually the least selfish liar out of all of them. She’s also the most passionate.  And by all of them, I do mean all of them. That being said, at least both Hanna and Spencer have done some shit for A once before, so are we really gonna be judging Aria right now? Over the course of the 7 seasons, we’ve seen Aria lie and keep secrets to protect people she cares about. I don’t have time to recount how many times or occasions Aria’s done this but she always has, while the liars have on one time or another have all betrayed each other at some point.
What stood out to me the most was Spencer Hasting’s enraged reaction to Aria’s ‘said betrayal’
Spencer claims she didn’t hurt anyone by being A. And that is not true --
Spencer didn’t join the A-Team to freaking be a double-agent. She was driven to join after a mental breakdown when she thought Toby was dead. Mona may have told her that Toby was alive, but Spencer was told that Toby would be her reward if she could get the liars at party on friday --- which is why Spencer’s parents throw a party to celebrate her departure from Radley. Spencer joined the team to save Toby, just like Aria joined the Team to save Ezra. She may have turned midway when she finally actually saw him, but so did Aria. So let’s not paint Spencer as a hero and Aria as a betraying bitch - they’ve both done the exact same thing, and the writers are recycling old plots because they have nothing better to do.
Spencer slipped some of her sleeping pills into Malcolm’s ice cream - I’m not sure why she did this, I don’t know if she was hoping Malcolm would forget what she looked like or not, but that was dangerous. Sleeping pills specifically are dosed for adults. It’s a miracle she didn’t kill him.
She claims that the A who took Malcolm wanted to get caught - and if she did, she wouldn’t have told Malcolm her name was Alison. She wasn’t trying to get caught.
Later on, Aria snaps, saying that Malcolm is off-limits. If Spencer really wanted to prove a double-agent status, Aria should have been in on this. Being a double-agent doesn’t count if Spencer’s the only one who knows what she discovers; she should have told Aria. Aria didn’t agree and had to be threatened twice to comply to A.D’s wishes. Spencer didn’t even waste a heartbeat thinking what taking Malcolm could possibly do to Aria.
Last but not least, Spencer’s parents going through a divorce is not Aria’s fault. Spencer is deluding herself to think that her parents even stood a chance, back from the day they found out Jason was Spencer’s brother. But that’s not a point I should mention because everyone agrees with me anyways.
Troian revealed in an interview that Spencer was supposed to be A. Which brings me to a point that, Marlene didn’t even know where she was going with this show after season 2. She just kept adding plots and twisting pasts and creating plot holes to add to the shock factor.
Now onto the infuriating part of this, Alison Dilaurentis
“So what? It was just a no brainer for you to pick Ezra over us?”
If Alison Dilaurentis was a part of my life, I’d run her over with a truck the first chance I had.
But Aria hasn’t done that - Despite all the shit that Alison has put Aria through, Aria was the most welcoming and embracing of Alison’s return. Aria’s the one who married Alison, and Aria’s the one who took her back to the sanitarium and promised over and over that everything would be okay. Even after finding out that Charlotte, Alison’s sister, was the reason they’d all gone through what they went through, even when they all should have cut ties with Alison and laughed in her face when she asked them to testify in Charlotte’s behalf, she and the girls didn’t.
But Alison is also the prime reason why all of this is happening to those girls - so yes, Alison, it would be a no brainer for people to not pick you, you selfish, manipulative, conniving bitch.
It just honestly made me laugh my ass off when Alison said that - because of all people, Alison would run them all over for her own self-interest. She’s always been like that, surviving like she lived in the jungle, surrounding herself with possible prey if the food ran out. If A.D. had approached any of the girls, I’m sure none of them would have hesitated. Given the current situation, if it’d been Hanna approached by A.D. to do this to save Caleb from some illegal hacking he’s probably done in his past, I can guarantee you that Hanna Marin would have done more that break a crib and plant a phone.  If it’d been Emily to protect Alison, I don’t think I have to say Emily would have sold her own kidney cause she’s already done something akin to that (not joking, that relationship is even more toxic than Ezria. It’s disgusting and everyone who ships Emison needs to do a reality check. It’s bad LGBT representation. It’s bad general romantic relationship representation. It’s sick and twisted and I just can’t.) And Spencer’s already at a fragile mental space, she’d have anything with proper pressure anyways.
If anyone else had said that to Aria I may have conceded, but it had to be Alison Fucking Dilaurentis, Queen of Selfish Bitch Land.
That last thing I wanna say is that I am HEAVILY disappointed in Spencer, Hanna, and Emily. Mona’s probably one of the few characters with an actual clinical mental disorder diagnosis. Their past with her alone should be enough for them not to trust a word that comes out of her mouth. When Spencer asks for proof and Mona plays a damn recording I was SURPRISED that THAT’S all they needed to believe it was Aria. Aria should have been given the benefit of the doubt, and given a chance to explain. Instead, Mona turned them on Aria and I believe Mona’s done this to forcefully pull the girls apart. I think Mona’s the one who planted the phone in the Brew for Aria, and she’s been the one talking Aria that whole last episode, not A.D. A.D.’s work with Aria ended with the puzzle piece. This was all Mona.
Mona’s the one who who provided evidence to the police to give Aria an alibi on the night of Charlotte’s murder. After all, we all know Mona is tech savvy, she can do anything. She wanted to drive Aria away and seclude her so that at some point, Aria would lead her to A.D. I think Mona too was blackmailed by A.D. But given her illness, she just couldn’t stand the idea of someone not only stealing the game from her but actually controlling her to do their bidding (Mona’s the body used to create avatAria.)
When the liars froze Aria out, they chose who was going to lose. That’s what the endgame of this whole episode was. To drive one girl apart enough for them to not even consider looping her in on this. And they succeeded, by freezing aria out, the girls chose Aria to be the one to take the blame. And even if Mona did send an alibi to the police, it can be easily refuted.
What I’m trying to say is shame on them for trusting Mona Vanderwaal.
This is been a ranting PSA. Please, feel free to send me all the hate and attacking anonymous messages your heart desires, because I’ll delete them all anyways :)

Spencer Hastings (Pretty Little Liars): ENTJ
Tumblr media
Dominant Extroverted Thinking [Te]: Taking charge of situations comes second nature to Spencer. Following Alison’s disappearance, Spencer often acts as the unofficial leader of her group of friends. She’s decisive, straightforward, overachieving, driven, blunt, competitive, bossy, extremely intelligent, and good at coming up with plans. Spencer has a hand in everything. She takes on internships, does charity work, plays on the field hockey team, and is a member of several after-school clubs, all while dealing with a cyber stalker. With everything she has on her plate, Spencer is proven to have strong time management skills. Spencer is motivated to get results. Spencer deals with all of her problems in an analytical manner. She’s good at taking control of situations, and is often depended on by her friends to “think” them out of the trouble they get into. When they find Emily standing over Ali’s grave with a shovel, Spencer takes her back to her house and burns her clothing, then leaves a note telling her mom they were at the lake house all night in order to provide an alibi. She remains cool-headed during times of crisis and can always think of a plan. She gives the orders and everybody else typically follows them.
Tumblr media
Auxiliary Introverted Intuition [Ni]: Although Spencer lives in the world of facts and evidence, she also knows how to rely on her intuition. When Spencer has a hunch, she sees it through until she knows for sure. When she has a strong gut feeling about something, she pursues it with fierce determination. Spencer is good at coming up with suspects, as well as possible motives, and, once she is struck with the best theory, she latches onto it, sometimes becoming very stubborn and obsessive in her quest to prove it. A lot of the time, her intuition is great, but every now and then, she fixates on the wrong people or the wrong detail and can end up falling down the wrong rabbit hole. Spencer, more than any of the other girls, has a tendency to speak in metaphors. She is good at thinking several steps ahead, and often pokes holes in other people’s plans or theories because theirs tend to be more short-sighted and not as well thought out as hers. When Spencer has just one or two small pieces of information, she can formulate complex conspiracy theories based on a minuscule amount of evidence. In the doll house, Spencer doesn’t immediately realize that the blocks spell “Charles.” However, she sleeps on it, resulting in an “Aha!” moment. When she realizes that someone has called Emily from her phone after she goes missing, she immediately jumps to the conclusion that they’re being set up.
Tumblr media
Tertiary Extroverted Sensing [Se]: Spencer has a good handle on her physical environment. She’s athletic and, in addition to being on the field hockey team, Spencer plays tennis at the Country Club. She has an eye for fashion and design, as noted by Melissa after Spencer renovated the barn. Sometimes, she acts on impulse, which can get her into trouble. Spencer is resourceful and can see opportunities in her environment to use to her advantage. When she goes over to Marco’s apartment to try to get him to drop the case and he refuses, she notices the flash drive on his table and swipes it. Then, when he calls her about it, she subtly threatens to blackmail him (Ni-Se). Spencer is unafraid to take risks and readily puts herself in dangerous situations in service of the plans she develops using her higher functions. Out of all the girls, she is the most dedicated to getting to the bottom of things, and is focused on exposing A by any means necessary. She doesn’t care if she has to break into an office or a house to do some sleuthing, or if she has to manipulate people to get information. Spencer is good at paying attention to her surroundings and is constantly observing. She is quick to react to things – such as when she hears noises while investigating and instantly flees the scene (sometimes before the other girls even have a chance to realize they’re not alone).
Tumblr media
Inferior Introverted Feeling [Fi]: When Spencer is angry or upset, she doesn’t talk about it, she does something about it. Sometimes, she’ll throw herself into a plan to avoid her pain (Te), and other times, she’ll make uncharacteristically reckless decisions (Se). Other times, she’ll make dumb mistakes that she wouldn’t ordinarily make. When Spencer is upset about Caleb and Hanna, she drinks excessively, leading to her accidentally paying for drinks at the bar with Archer’s credit card instead of her own. Spencer doesn’t like to be a victim and she doesn’t want to think about the pain she’s feeling. In the past, she has turned to drugs as a coping mechanism. When Spencer is upset, she makes eye contact with Aria in the hall and turns in the other direction. She goes into the bathroom and hides out in a stall, but Aria follows her in, and Spencer pretends she isn’t there. When Aria insists that she knows Spencer is in there, Spencer maintains that she’s fine and tries to avoid talking to her. While Aria talks, Spencer remains silent, and Aria eventually gives up and leaves.

Quotes:
Spencer: I don’t think this is gonna come as any surprise to you. But I can be really certain about things. I like being certain, okay? Its where I’m comfortable. I am not happy in the grey places.
Spencer: A dream is an experience and an experience is real.
Spencer: I really don’t let myself cry in front of anybody.
Spencer: Why enjoy today when you could be worrying about tomorrow?
Spencer: I’ve been in the library so much I am on a first name basis with the homeless guy that sleeps next to the microfiche.
Spencer: Giving into a bully never works. Even if you give them everything that they ask for, it’ll never be enough. Your only choice is to stand up to them, even if it costs you something.
Spencer: If you think I’m going to let you hurt her, you’re underestimating me.
Spencer: I don’t want to be here anymore. Is that legitimate enough?
Melissa: For once in your life, stop trying to be the smartest person in the room.
Spencer: I decided I didn’t want to be the victim anymore. That’s not who I am.
Spencer: Is there something going on between you two? Aria: No Spencer: And why did you bring him to Emily’s last night? Aria: Okay, we had a slip. Spencer: A slip!? Aria: Well, technically it was two slips. Spencer: Oh my god Aria you said you were never gonna go there again. Aria: I meant it when I said it. Spencer: Are you forgetting about what he did to you? What he did to us? Aria: No Spencer: You couldn’t eat or sleep for weeks after you found out about that book. Aria: Okay, well he took a bullet for us, Spence. Spencer: Yeah, but that doesn’t change the fact that he deceived you for years!
Spencer: The quitter did. That’s what you do, isn’t it Emily ? You quit things. When things are too much for you, you just throw in the towel. I mean, you quit the swim team, you quit Paige, you even quit Maya.
Spencer: Our familiers are connected. They’re more than just connected they’re tangled up like necklaces int the bottom of you jewelry box.
Spencer: How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. Emily: What brilliant scholar said that ? Spencer: Winnie the Pooh.
Spencer: Did you ever play the game with the flowers when you were little, he loves me, he loves me not ? He loves me, he loves me not… The trick is, you just find a flower with the odd number of petals.
Spencer: I knew who I was when they found me. I knew that my family and friends would be worried. I just — I wanted to fold up and stop. I didn’t want to think anymore. Anne: You were overwhelmed. Spencer: Yeah, well, I wasn’t Spencer Hastings for almost a whole day and nobody else showed up to take the job, so, I guess I’m stuck with it. Anne: Because you’re the only person in the world that can be you. Spencer: You don’t have to rub it in. I’m sorry, this can’t be very entertaining. There are people here with real problems. Anne: Just like you. Spencer: Yeah. Just like me. I…I fell down. In the woods. When I was running, I fell down and I looked at the ground and I saw my hand and my sleeve and the little button on my sleeve and some dirt and an old acorn, and I said to myself, “OK, if this is the last thing I ever see, I can handle that. I’m done. I’ve had enough.” But it wasn’t the last thing that I saw. I just kept going. How do you keep going when the worst thing has happened? What do you have to change inside to survive? Who do you have to become? I’m sorry. I don’t expect you guys to understand. You don’t know me. [From her point of view, she sees Emily, Aria and Hanna sitting across from her] I’m sorry, but that’s true. You don’t know who I am anymore. And you can’t count on me.
Hanna: It probably is and were just sitting here like geese Spencer: Ducks Hanna: What? Spencer: You say like lame ducks, not geese Hanna: OK, well whatever they both quack Spencer: Geese honk…
Emily: Coincidences happen. Spencer: Yeah, all the time. They just grow on trees like coconuts, waiting for you to walk under them.
Spencer: With Ali, I keep peeling, I just always seem to find new layers.
Spencer: Uh, drugging yourself is the best alibi ever. Classic Sharon Stone movie.
Spencer: [about Mona and Jason]: Okay, he’s basically hugging a hand grenade.
Spencer: If she’s going to dip back into the A-bag to scare me off the decathlon team, she’s got another thing coming. Hanna: Is being captain brainiac really that important?
Hanna: Spencer, stop giving us orders. We’re not your winged monkeys.
Mona [to Spencer]: You’re like smart-smart. I always thought you were just book-smart.
Spencer: Hide and seek was my favorite game with Melissa. You want to know why? I always won.
Spencer: Melissa is a Hastings, we bounce back like super balls.
Spencer [about Jenna]: How can you miss her? She’s been gliding around school all day like a Thanksgiving float.
Spencer: Hanna, you have all the subtlety of a hand grenade.
Spencer: He’s your boyfriend, Aria. He’s not a baby squirrel. Aria: I was just trying to do the right thing. Spencer: Totally wrong. Look, I’ve been there, I’ve done that. Every time you baby squirrel Ezra, you’re taking away his nuts. Aria: You did not just say that.
Spencer: [about Aria and Ezra’s relationship] Part of me thinks this is really self-destructive behavior, but most of me just thinks it’s really hot.
Emily: [About Paige] Just some snarky comment about me being gay. Spencer: I will destroy her. Aria: Can I help?
Spencer: [On the phone] Where are you? Aria: What are you talking about, I’m right here. Spencer: [Hears sirens] Any firetruck you can here at your house, I can hear at mine– Oh my God! Are you in his apartment? Are you on the bed…?
Spencer: Mona is five feet of insidious snark with a side ponytail, and I just — I wanna grab it, and I wanna yank it really, really hard.
Spencer: I know every club. I came close to joining The Madrigals.
Spencer: “A” is being our ultimate “frenemy”, forcing us to get what we want, but knowing that when we do… Hanna: All hell breaks loose.
Hanna: Lying is not a crime. Spencer: It is when you’re giving false statements to the police. It’s called obstruction of justice.
Maya: So, I get your connection to Spencer. You both like to win. Emily: Winning’s great, but if I’ve done my best, I usually feel good about the outcome, no matter what it is. Maya: And Spencer? Emily: Spencer needs to win.
Hanna: Spencer, you do not need to know any more big words. You’re already scary enough to anyone under fifty. Spencer: I’m not scary! Am I scary? Aria: A little.
Spencer: I think we’re supposed to go to where we found Ali’s bracelet. Aria: That was in the middle of nowhere. Spencer: Actually, it was fifteen steps east of the half-point tree, which is 136 steps from the main road. Aria: You’re a freak, and I love you.

Pretty Little Liars
These Boots Were Made for Stalking (A Recap)
I’m just warning you now, this episode is about as eventful as the last one. Don’t let that ridiculous episode title fool you.
We pick up where we left off, with the girls all surrounding the game, upset that Spencer played. Again, it may have been easier to avoid this had they not left it alone with one person. Emily decides to be assertive and say she’s still not playing, leaving the barn. Hanna is annoyed by Emily too and says that she can’t just leave because they’re in it together; after all, they all buried that body unnecessarily. Still so stupid. Like the police were going to prosecute them for some guy running around the woods in all black and getting in the way of a car. Open and shut accident.
Aria’s main focus still centers on the uncertainty of her engagement. A reporter saw her coming out of Ezra’s apartment and asks if she can get in touch with Ezra for an interview about him being reunited with his long-lost fiancé Nicole. So naturally Aria gets offended and corrects him about being the fiancé. Let’s table Aria for a little bit because she will actually serve as the relief from everything else that happens in this episode. We’re gonna need it.
At Rosewood High, Emily and Paige talk in the locker room. Paige apologizes for saying that Emily was a victim enabler the other day; but she was actually right about it and she said it in a very fair way, so I don’t think she should apologize. I cannot believe I’m sticking up for Paige. They talk a little bit about their history and when they part ways, Emily sees that there was a student still in the locker room and she was clearly listening in. Listen, this has an upturned and bitchy for the entire episode. In case you don’t pick up on her nature from her interactions with everyone. Emily asks her why she missed practice yesterday and the girl gives this half-ass response and saunters out.
Later, Emily goes to talk to the girl in Alison’s classroom following Ali’s lesson. She says that she checked with the office and saw that the girl never went home early yesterday. Emily says that it isn’t fair to her teammates that she skipped out on practice like that and the girl’s attitude isn’t helping her case, so Emily tells her she’s off the starting lineup for the next swim meet. The girl’s response is, “You sure you wanna do that?” and she walks out. Emily and Alison immediately talk about how terrible this girl is, with Ali remarking that she’s even worse than she was when she was a teenager. And I guess I should mention that this bitchy girl is named Addison Derringer…. It’s like they’re not even trying.
Ali wonders if her child will turn out like her or Addison. For the sake of all that is good, let’s hope that the kid doesn’t and let’s not entertain the possibility of a “next generation” spinoff centered around Ali’s potentially evil child. Emily asks Ali if that means she’s keeping the baby and Ali says she still hasn’t decided. Emily comforts her by stroking her hair and giving her a hug. While Addison was outside listening to the whole thing and taking pictures with her phone.
Addison later goes to Paige, accusing Emily of being a sexual predator who was trying to penalize her for not giving into Emily’s “advances”. Paige obviously knows this is all a lie; even if she didn’t know Emily as well as she does, she was picking up on Addison’s story not being consistent for the entirety of the conversation. Addison shows her the pictures she took of Ali and Emily and says that Emily is even inappropriate with other teachers. It’s the least incriminating picture in all of existence. Paige tells her that she’ll handle it and asks Addison to forward the picture to her.
Later that day, Paige shows Emily the picture and tells her about Addison’s accusation. She wants Emily to take the night off while she handles it.
Hanna meets with Mona, who shows her what the senator’s daughter picked out to wear to her event. But Hanna freaks out and says to talk her into another dress. Mona says she’ll be back when Hanna isn’t being so neurotic. Caleb sides with Mona’s stance and says she just needs to get over whatever her issue is and give the client the dress that she wants. Hanna tells him that she made the dress while working with Claudia and Claudia gave her several suggestions that made the dress work. At this point the background music is too annoying and distracting, but I think Caleb said something along the lines of “okay, and who gives a shit about Claudia?”  I’m not sure and I’m not rewatching this episode.
I guess we should see what Spencer is doing. Ah, she’s still being angsty about her birth mother. She finds out that Melissa also knew the secret. Obviously she knew Spencer, she would have remembered her mom being pregnant. She wonders why Melissa “put on a show” about finding out about Jason since she knew of her father’s infidelity before (regarding herself). Gee, Spencer, maybe it has something to do with finding out that she was dating her half-brother that made Melissa react like that. This is supposed to be the smart one?
I really wish we could skip Spencer, but she’s the one connected to the police storyline the most. She called Detective Marco and asks him if he would consider finding Mary a top priority. He doesn’t actually answer, but I would assume that Mary already was a priority considering how she’s connected to this entire situation. One could even argue that a great deal of this is Mary’s fault.
Spencer later meets with Marco at the police station to talk further about the case. Should he even be giving her this much information about an ongoing investigation? They’re interrupted by Jenna coming in, ready to make a statement. Marco tells her they aren’t alone and she says “I know. I can hear her breathing. Hello Spencer.” Let’s just, acknowledge the obvious about how she clearly would not be able to identify someone on their breathing.
Jenna says that she was working with Noel for money that he said Charlotte left for her to get eye surgery. But the “truth” is that Noel was broke and was going to take all the money and kill her like he did with Sara Harvey (I hope that’s the last we hear of her.) Jenna said she played along and had the gun as self-protection…despite not having eye sight. Incredibly for Spencer’s current behavior, she can tell that this is all a total lie.
And after all of that, I bet you welcome hearing about Aria. Aria is at the wedding planning place, talking to Holden. He’s swamped because a bride changed her mind at the last moment; change your mind as much as you want, but he better be making some serious extra cash for that. Aria helps him and he notices her taking off her ring and he asks how things are with Ezra. And really, Aria’s storyline is worth this: He lets her vent and he brings something about how everyone has history and how people can change and he says, “I mean, I’m not the same person I was in high school. Are you?” And it’s hilarious because yes, yes she is; they all are. I mean, just look at Ali and Emily having a meaningful conversation in front of an open door.  None of these people have grown in five years. Zero progression. We needed that.
Hanna called up Emily to see if she heard anything different and Emily points out how stupid that is and how she knows as much as Hanna does. If she knew more she would say it. This is just important because she sees Jenna with two other (presumably) blind people and she sees Jenna saying “send” into her phone and moments later sees and  hears Addison getting a notification for a new message.
We nee to revisit Spencer for a minute. Her mom tells her that she’s selling the house and they want to sever ties with the town as soon as possible. Spencer is like, “Okay, whatever, it’s just a house.” And that’s usually the response people want right? So that it’s not too difficult for the people leaving? But instead her mom launches into a huge monologue about how it’s not just a house, it’s their family and memories, and whatever other cliché things people say on TV shows. So like, does she want her to be upset? May as well add another thing you’ll never hear the end of.
Hanna and Mona are at The Radley when they see Jenna walk in wearing Hanna’s dress design in white. And to add insult to injury, it looks better in white. Mona storms over there demanding answers, but Jenna says it was a gift and blows her off. Hanna tells Mona it’s all a part of the game and she leaves too.
Hanna and Caleb follow Jenna. It looks like she’s going to the shoemaker where Hanna’s shoes that are going to go with the dress are being repaired. Jenna’s (presumably) blind friends go inside, while Jenna is outside. Caleb decides to confront her. When he walks up, Jenna smells (?!) him and asks if it’s Hanna. May have worked, but he spoke first to get her attention and I feel like she would recognize Caleb’s voice before Hanna’s smell. Hanna goes inside while they talk about nothing of importance.
The shoe repair shop is empty and dark. And not that large of a space; you could walk a few steps in and see the entirety of it. Somehow this does not stop Hanna from walking around, looking for the shoemaker, and getting locked in a cage where some of the shoes are. She flashes back to her torturing and huddles in a corner on the ground. She gets a text from AD telling her to wait her turn. Caleb finds her and gets her out. See! They haven’t learned anything!
Still at the wedding planning facility, Aria gets a news alert – it’s a full article about Ezra and Nicole being reunited. She says she has to leave and when she goes to put up her apron she sets her phone on the counter, with the article still on the screen. Holden sees it.
Aria goes to New York and talks a nurse into letting her in to see her “friend” Nicole so she can “drop off some salt water taffy.” She’s about to go in when she hears Holden yelling out, “Don’t do it Aria!” Very dramatic reaction that makes it seem like Aria was going to kill the woman or something. I think she was just going there to set the record straight about her and Ezra being engaged. Still a bad idea, but not one meriting that response.
So, Aria never goes in and she and Holden get some pizza. He gives her similar advice to what Hanna said last episode: just relax and continue going about each day until she and Ezra can talk further. He also points out that Ezra is probably feeling even more turmoil than she is. She thanks him and rests her head on her shoulder. I still do not remember Holden or why he’s significant, but please don’t love triangle this.
Emily wants Ali to give her the key to Spencer’s barn since Spencer left with her mom for the afternoon. Emily wants to play the game because she’s afraid AD is trying to get to her through Addison. She even thinks Addison could be a pawn of Jenna’s. Ali agrees to give her the key and goes with her.
When Alison and Emily play the game, they see a surveillance video of Addison and her boyfriend in a car outside of the coffee shop, sharing a bong. Emily’s solution is to confront Addison about how she’s a terrible person and a bully and she won’t get away with it. Problem is Emily is yelling and has completely lost her cool. Thankfully Paige is there; never thought I would say that either. Addison tries taunting Emily about how she’s gonna need a lawyer and Paige tells her that they have a copy of the email she sent to her friend gloating about her plan to get Emily fired; she says that the principal and Addison’s parents have seen it and they’re waiting for her in the principal’s office. Imagine that; someone said they would handle it and they actually did. And someone is actually getting consequences for their actions!
When Emily is leaving she gets an AD text saying “Embrace your dark side. I had to.” If that’s all her “dark side” is then that won’t be a difficult venture. All she did was yell at an irritating teenage; people want to do that every day. Emily also sees that she has mail in her teacher mailbox. It’s another puzzle piece.
Everyone gets together at the end of the episode and add Emily’s puzzle piece. Spencer deduces that it’s a map. I guess that’s the plot progression? We’re gonna painstakingly get like 6 more pieces until they get a full a map and then they finally “discover” something?

Is it muscle pain? It may be muscular in origin if the pain is reproduced by carrying out a particular movement or posture. Muscle pain is commonly explained as soreness. Muscle discomfort is either felt in the bulging, main part of a muscle or at the part where the muscle connects to bone. Sometimes lower pain in the back felt primarily at the back crest of your hip bone, below your ribs where some back muscles connect. Sometimes the simplest thing to do it take your hand and knead into your back muscles to see if they trigger your discomfort to be recreated. Muscle discomfort is often lateral in nature. My sibling told me that his medical insurance requires that he invest fifteen hundred dollars on prescriptions PRIOR TO he captures a break, and. that simply did not sound fair to me.
