Gordon y el artillero Ekins, sector de Caen, 8 agosto de 1944. Jaroslaw Wróbel. El 8 de agosto el Tiger 205, estaba en reparaciones, de modo que Wittmann tomó el 007 para iniciar el ataque desde Les Jardinets junto a otros cuatro vehículos. JUnto al 007 iban el 314 de Ihrion y el 008 de Dollinger, aunque la composición exacta de dicha formación aún es incierta. El SS-Oberfuhrer Meyer les ordeno dirigirse al norte de Cintheaux y detenerse allí para asegurar el flanco ante el ataque aliado. En el camino, en la carretera Caen-Falaise, se toparón con una columna de carros Sherman de la 4. División Acorazada canadiense comenzando a destrozarla con sus 88. Cuando llegarón a las inmediaciones de la población se percatarón de que varios blindados enemigos estaban poniendo en aprietos a los granaderos que defendían la villa, asi que fuerón a su encuentro y destruyerón algunos de ellos. Wittman reunió sus fuerzas y se encaminó hacia el norte. Los Tiger quedarón expuestos al fuego desde el norte de la cota 122, donde había un bosque en el que estaban ocultos varios carros del 1st NY (Northamptonshire Yeomanry), cosa de la que Wittmann no se había percatado. Mientras continuaban su progresión, los Tiger entablaron un duelo con los blindados de los Sherbrooke Fusiliers al oeste del camino. A una distancia de uno 1,800 metros, los Tiger destruyeron o inhabilitaron a un buen número de Sherman, mientras que los pocos Firefly disponibles intentaban oponérseles con poco éxito. Cuatro Sherman del Escuadrón del 1st NY, entre ellos un Firefly mandado por el sargento Gordon, tomaron posiciones defensivas bajo la línea de árboles a la espera de que llegaran refuerzos, mientras tres Tiger avanzaban a una distancia de 1.200 metros.
