Key findings on Nawaf Salam’s bias against Israel:

During his time as Lebanon’s representative to the UN, Salam voted to condemn Israel 210 times.

These resolutions contained one-sided denunciations of Israel, and gave a free pass to Hamas. For example, in December 2008, Salam voted for a resolution that accused Israel of “acts of terror, provocation, incitement and destruction” against Palestinians, yet made no mention of Hamas or Islamic Jihad.

Another resolution that Nawaf supported, in 2017, accused Israel of “systematic violation of the human rights of the Palestinian people,” and “causing death and injury to Palestinian civilians, including children, women and non-violent, peaceful demonstrators.”

In his speeches to the UN, Salam also made many inflammatory statements that demonstrate extreme bias against Israel. In January 2008, Salam accused “terrorist Jewish organizations” of committing “massacres.” He also said that Gaza was an “open air prison.” CLICK FOR VIDEO

In a November 2008 UN speech, Salam said the “supreme Zionist leadership” pursued a plan of “ethnic cleansing” through “terrorism and organized massacres.”

In November 2009, Salam told the UN General Assembly that “for too long [Israel’s] war criminals have benefited from impunity”; and Israel was guilty of “flagrant disrespect for international law.” CLICK FOR VIDEO

In 2011, he accused Israel of “illegitimate actions.”

On June 13, 2014, Salam accused Israel of “crimes against humanity” and “war crimes.” CLICK FOR VIDEO

On June 18, 2014, Salam opposed the candidacy of Israel to the vice-presidency of the General Assembly’s Fourth Committee, on the grounds that it is “the most condemned country” at the General Assembly and that it continues to “violate the rules of the international community.” Salam said that Israel was not eligible for election “to any office” at the UN.

On numerous occasions, including November 2016, Salam has accused Israel of “apartheid.” CLICK FOR VIDEO

Salam has also repeatedly attacked Israel on social media. In 2015, on Twitter he called Israel a “Triumph of blatant racist & colonialist choices.”

In 2016, in reference to the 2006 war launched by Hezbollah, Salam accused Israel of using “the most vicious & disgusting weapons of all times.” He never once condemned Hezbollah for launching the war, or for attacking Israeli civilians with thousands of rockets. On the contrary, Salam inverted the cause of the war, writing falsely that it was Israel that “launched a 33 day war against my country…”

Outside his window the pale wintery light steadily faded, grays into blues whilst the snowfall obscured any of the usual hues one might expect from a sunset. The prince barely noticed. He did not notice the chill, or perhaps he’d simply grow used to it long ago. The only sound was the occasional clink of his ring against the glass when he sipped the amber liquid he’d been nursing for well over an hour. Maximilian sat alone with his thoughts - considering every possible alternative, or simply delaying the inevitable.

His uncle did not shout. They were Swiss, that was not what they did. Maximilian learned this icy cruelty under his tutelage, and by now could easily match the cool detachment that colored all of their arguments. The world was fracturing around them, institutions and norms weakened until they offered little more than the illusion of peace. That too, his uncle said, would soon be gone.

Your brother said you were considering doing something reckless…

It wasn’t reckless, Max wanted to say, Swiss armed neutrality predated any of the crumbling institutions, widely respected across the globe. Why should it not outlast them as well? He’d had a very good argument, well founded in history and strategy. He’d even had a plan, or the beginnings of one, as to how they might preserve neutrality moving forward. But those first few words ensnared his attention and Max knew it didn’t matter how well he argued his position - his uncle had already changed the rules.

We would not want to undermine the stability of the crown, Maximilian, - his uncle’s parting threat haunted the room - not so close to your ascension.  

Five years, nine months, and a few days. Or perhaps an eternity. The weight of expectation he’d born almost as long as he could remember paled to this threat. He supposed it had existed for a while now, clouded by his uncle’s machinations or Max’s own unwillingness to see his siblings as rivals. Max should know better than to go behind the regency, the argument went, imagine the chaos had Hans not said anything? Such a dutiful prince, loyal to the crown not his own ambitions. On and on the narrative went until his uncle left and Max realized the regent would not be the one to hold the sword to his neck, not when another could be so easily persuaded.

He sat with this realization in the darkening room and worked through every possibility. Hadn’t he spent the past two decades protecting them from this exact thing? If he alone remained, then the others could not be used as pawns to gain power or favor. A boy king in Bern in exchange for the rest of the family protected and together in Geneva. It was the very reason he obeyed, let his uncle shape him from a child into a ruthless, cold thing. He’d long ago forgiven his mother for leaving him to the wolves, some unspoken agreement between them that she would protect the others and he would survive whatever darkness she’d seen lurking in the regent’s eyes. The same darkness planting the seeds of paranoia, pushing Max towards a choice.

Ren was wrapped up in his music, the tortured genius bit not at all conducive to a viable alternative. Heinrich, Klaus, and Sylvie were too young, too far removed from the line of succession - too close to the Dowager Queen. Which only left Hans. Second in line, and so recently willing to get involved, to help. Max had welcomed it, seeking the family and companionship he’d missed all those years and unknowingly handed his uncle the perfect tool to keep the willful future king in line.

Max hated considering them this way, this detached evaluation of potential threats and not the beloved siblings he’d protected since childhood. Ruling, someone had told him, is about making choices, often the more difficult the choice the greater consequences should one choose wrong. Either Hans knew and was a willing participant - betrayal mixed with icy anger in his chest - or Hans had no idea and was even more susceptible to manipulation and further harm.  A struggle for succession would irreparably damage all of them, not just Max and Hans, but the rest of his family torn between the two. Not to mention what it might do to his nation, and in such an unstable global climate.

Bitterly Max found himself agreeing with his uncle - they could not undermine the stability of the crown. Hans needed to be taken off the board.

A knock shattered the silence, and Max quickly finished his drink before calling for his brother to enter.

“I need you to do something for me,” he finally looked up, meeting eyes that echoed his own. Somehow, their similarities made this so much worse. Every instinct within him, every spare bit of morality, his fundamental driving principle to protect rebelled against this choice, these words. But it was Switzerland or Hans, instability and strife or his brother’s absence. Maximilian iced over his emotions and spoke, cool detached tone a near perfect imitation of their uncle.

“I need you to leave the country.”

January 10, 2018,  The Israeli army killed 15 Palestinian children in the besieged Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, in the year 2017, Defence for Children International- Palestine revealed yesterday. The human rights organisation [sic] said in a report that 12 children were shot dead, four of them during protests and three in ambushes setup by the army, while five children were killed during alleged attempts to carry out stabbing attacks. The report pointed out that a child was killed by artillery shelling in the Gaza Strip, and another by the explosion of a suspicious body while herding sheep near the city of Tubas in the northern West Bank while another died from injuries sustained in 2014. The organisation [sic] stressed that the Israeli army takes advantage of the lack of accountability to kill more children.

January 11, 2018,A three-year-old Palestinian was shot in the head during an Israeli “military training” session in the northern occupied West Bank city of Tubas. According to a statement by the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Health, the child was hit in the head with live bullets. He was taken to Rafidia Surgical hospital in Nablus. She pointed out that the child’s relatives told “medical staff that he was shot during IDF training in the area.” “The health situation of the injured child is stable,” the ministry said. The Israeli military frequently conducts training in Palestinian communities in Tubas, the Jordan Valley of the occupied West Bank, Hebron, and several other areas. Palestinians are often forced to abandon their homes to make way for the training sessions.

On March 30, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers shot 773 unarmed Palestinian protesters in Gaza, killing 17 and wounding 1,400. Twenty remain in critical condition. The protesters were marching to demand the internationally mandated right of return of refugees to their cities and villages in what now constitutes Israel. The Israeli leaders who ordered the massacre were in clear violation of international law. They should be prosecuted for war crimes. The use of deadly force against the peaceful protesters was premeditated. The IDF deployed 100 snipers to the border fence between Gaza and Israel, where 30,000 to 40,000 Palestinians had gathered for the Great March of Return.

... A video from the first day of the march shows a protester being shot in the back by an Israeli sniper as he walks away from the fence separating Gaza from Israel. In other footage, Palestinians are killed or wounded as they pray, walk empty-handed towards the border fence, or simply hold up a Palestinian flag. All who get within 300 yards are labelled "instigators" by the Israeli army, whose soldiers have orders to shoot them ... The sheer scale of the casualties on the first day of the protest a week ago is striking, with as many as 16 killed and 1,415 injured, of whom 758 were hit by live fire according to Gaza health officials ...
