S2 of Why Women Kill left me…conflicted. Always happy to see fat actors in shows but boy did this one test my limits. Like yeah they kinda got pretty clothes (1949 is one of the most reviled fashion years to vintage fans so in a way i felt we were shorted on that alone) but it showed a fat woman going nuts mostly for being ignored due to being fat.
But for a moment lets pretend it was all thinnies like most shows. The plot was a hell of a lot less sympathetic than the first season, and offered less layers (that they exposed and then basically forgot and never spoke of again). It was like if u took that annoying as hell throuple, fattened them up, and made them evil then stuck them in the worst fashion year of the 1900s. Dee and her man were the only good plot line that didnt make u feel dirty after.
Also looking at pics of the chick who played the mom killer she doesnt look that big? Did they pad her up?! I fucking hate when they do that. Look im 225lbs and id love to be styled by Janie Bryant but if it was for 1949 id pass. I liked some of the outfits but more than not were just regrettable.
Honestly one season was enough. I saved the first season, deleted the second

Devi's terrible outfits are like Joan Holloway's terrible outfits: it's the woman that makes the clothes, not the other way around
To distract you from being 9 months pregnant and due soon: Top 5 best Devi outfits and bottom 5 worst Devi outfits?
I refuse to explain myself I just know I’m right.
Top 5 best Devi outfits:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Top five worst Devi outfits:
1. Couldn’t find a picture but those gosh awful black and white checkered pants that she wore in season 1 (you know what I mean) .
2.
3.
4.
5. This outfit reminds me off what my mom made me wear in elementary school.
To be fair to Devi she can pull a lot of outfits off and I don’t think anything she wears is truly terrible. These are just my least favorite outfits.

The biggest physical adjustment was the constraints of the costumes. [Janie Bryant] favored doll-like pastels that spoke to Betty's desire to maintain perfection, and the undergarments and girdles forced a certain posture and even gait that was uncomfortable at first but also lent an amazing detail to the character. It turned how tied-in and implosive Betty was into a literal fact. - January Jones

Those in italics have five or more pieces of usable visual, written, or audio propaganda already. If you have any visuals like photos or videos, or if you have something to say in words, submit it to this blog before round one begins on June 25th!
If you don't see a name you submitted here, it's because most or all of their career was as a child/they were too young for the cutoff, their career was almost entirely after 1979, or music was something they only dabbled in and are hardly known for. There are quite a few ladies on the list whose primary career wasn't "recording artist" or "live musician," but released several albums or were in musical theater, so they've been accepted.
#long post#miss billboard tourney#i wasn't originally going to list them all but i decided to do so because there are so many without propaganda

Jonny Herbert designed this white chiffon gown with large colorful circles in the 1960s. One of them was purchased by Janie Bryant for use on January Jones as Betty Draper in the 2008 second season of Mad Men, in the episode entitled A Night to Remember. The dress was dubbed by Bryant as Betty’s “Sad Clown Dress.”
The dress seems to have gone on to live another life in the 2023 series Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, where it was worn by an extra in the episode Or at the High School Dance…The dress is the same one worn by January Jones, as the colors and placement of the dots line up exactly.
A version of this dress was sold on Etsy, and the listing offers more details about the design and materials.

Dressing TV Style Icons In High Fashion
Having a favourite tv style icon is easy. Finding out where they get their clothes from - is even more complicated. The success behind some of our favourite tv character closets is down to costume designers. Costume designers often dress actors in high fashion - especially if the character is rich or has wealthy parents.
MAD MEN
Designer: Janie Bryant
Popular Characters: Don Draper, Joan Harris, Betty Draper, Peggy Olson, Megan Draper.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Desi Arnaz Jr., Carl Brashear, Dewey Bunnel (America), Carman, Paul Cézanne, Michael Crawford, Martha Davis, electric lighting (1883), Rod Evans (Deep Purple), Tippi Hedren, Janis Joplin, Ish Kabbible, Laurie London, Rachel Luttrell, Massenet’s 1884 opera MANON, Simone Missick, Robert Palmer, Dolly Parton, Edgar Allen Poe, conductor Simon Rattle, Owsley Stanley, Jean Stapleton, Verdi’s 1853 opera IL TROVATORE, Caron Wheeler (Soul II Soul), John Wozniak (Marcy Playground), and Phil Everly, half of one of popular music’s greatest duos, The Everly Brothers. Their influence didn’t stop with Americana, country, folk, rock’n’roll, and rockabilly. Their sound reached across the pond to England, where The Beatles mimic’d the Everly’s tight harmonies and jangly guitars, and it is said The Beach Boys, The Bee Gees, and Simon & Garfukel owe a debt to the Everlys. Their long career produced mulitple hits, from oft-covered originals (“When Will I Be Loved”) to classics penned by Felice and Boudleux Bryant.
I was born the day The Everly’s were in the studio to record “Wake Up Little Susie”—the perfect portrait of young America. One of my first childhood memories (age 2) is seeing them on TV. I’m also a fan of their late 60s “gothic country” recordings as well as their solid 80s comeback albums. In the 90s Phil launched a guitar accessories company. At the time I was the buyer for a music store and decided to try Everly Strings. Weeks later I was at the NAMM Show, visiting the Everly Music booth, and Phil stopped by. I was very excited, telling him about songs I wrote that were influenced by him and his brother. He listened graciously, smiling like a Kentucky gentleman. He gave me a t-shirt, thanked me for supporting his company, and said to keep in touch.
Fast forward to 2003—The Everlys were on a major reunion tour, and I had tickets. The set was amazing—a fan’s dream. I had with me a photo of me wearing an Everly Strings t-shirt with Davy Jones (Monkees). Backstage I briefly met Don, did a group photo (which I since lost), and gave Phil a copy of the photo I brought. Phil laughed and said, “Cool. I’m going to hang this in my office.”
Here’s a rare non-lyric collaboration Phil did with Roy Wood—an homage to The Beach Boys. HB Phil and thank you for your light.

Costume designer Janie Bryant on Salvatore Romano
“[Sal] is in the art department. So I figured, ‘This man probably gravitates toward flamboyance.’ I just imagined him to be in suit separates, because I felt like he was a person who would understand how to coordinate all those elements. It was really just in those details. Like a flounce of his pocket square, or a little bit more floral detail in his tie, the fleur de lis in his vest. The big part of it was also the suit separates, because I just felt that he’d be coordinating his outfits in the morning. Still done very conservatively, he wasn’t trying to rat himself out. He does have a flair for dressing. And I felt like that also because he was the art director, there might be a kind of lenience in how he dresses for work.”
