minjeong's dorm, 12:12 am.

minjeong wasn't mediocre.

as soon as she could form thoughts, minjeong knew that she was worth something more.

yangsan was charming, in a sense. it was littered with people who knew each other, who would attend the same recitals, and talk about the same problems. soon enough, minjeong found herself walking by the same couple of faces daily, waving at the same people and thanking the same adults.

it was monotonous, and there was nothing more annoying than boredom.

minjeong had always wished that her parents had worked harder like she did. she wished that they would've put more effort into pleasing her, even if they would bend their backs to get her whatever she desired.

it wasn't so she could get rewarded for her efforts. it was because she deserved it. it was because she had always done everything right, because she was right.

she was kim minjeong. she needed the best in order to continue to be the best.

soon, she had outgrown yangsan.

minjeong had begged her parents to go to high school in seoul, despite living across the country. her brother, kim minseo, decided to stay behind, not wanting to restart the life he had built, to stay with his girlfriend.

at least, that was what minjeong had said to the girls.

she refused to show the truth, the hardships and tears that her parents went through as a young kim minjeong threatened to run away if she didn't get what she wanted. she refused to relive the berating of her younger brother as he tried to convince her that their parents would nearly go bankrupt if she kept asking for something beyond their reach, or how he decided to stay in yangsan to lessen the burden of taking care of funds (and how he dropped out to work a crappy job to help with the situation).

kim minjeong didn't care, because she always got what she deserved.

being in the capital of south korea was her right. being in one of the SKYS, being with the girl was her right.

kim minjeong would never settle for less.

y/n could hear the door rattling, the hinges shaking at every pound of yuri's fist.

her stomach churned, the thought of seeing her now ex-friend nearly making her sick. she had tagged along despite the gnawing in the back of her head, telling her that seeing minjeong was essentially a death sentence.

in her head, y/n assumed that everything would be fine. she assumed that it would hurt less than jimin, less than wonyoung.

she was wrong.

"unnie..." she clenched her eyes tightly, tugging on the back of yuri's sweater. "i changed my mind."

minjeong broke her, in a way.

it lingered like cheap, store-bought alcohol. it was a deep, unsettling feeling like her chest had been weighed down by something and she wasn't sure what. y/n didn't know what to think except why. why had minjeong - someone she loved so deeply - betrayed her like this?

kim minjeong was her best friend, her sister.

(and despite everything, she didn't want yuri to knock minjeong's tooth out.)

"minju-unnie, do something." y/n looked over to the older kim, face void of emotion. "jiwonnie?" she turned to the younger, finding her expression the exact same.

y/n couldn't help but sigh.

she had always wanted someone in her corner, especially growing up as an only child. y/n wanted someone who she loved unconditionally, and who loved her the same. sure, she had amazing parents, but she had always yearned for the connection that everyone seemed to have.

she could live without romantic love, like the winter could live without snow. but it was different when it came to friendship - to family.

everyone had someone they could call their family. wonyoung had hyunseo, her younger half-sister whom the older jang swore she would protect. yuri had minju (and jiwon by default) who, even though they weren't blood-related, had always spent her holidays with the kims. even jimin had aeri, the two more akin to sisters than friends up until recently.

y/n had minjeong. at least she thought she did.

the door creaked open, letting the warm air blow through the small crevice. minjeong popped her head out, glaring at yuri as her eyes adjusted to the corridor light.

y/n missed when minjeong's presence felt like family.

minjeong opened her mouth to speak, but as she glanced over at y/n, everything seemed to stop.

"y/n?"

jo yuri wasn't strong, not physically. but what minjeong lacked in bite, yuri compensated by tenfold.

she rammed the door wide open, using her entire body weight to send minjeong stumbling back, landing on her rear. yuri fell along with her, nearly landing beside her if it weren't for y/n suddenly holding her steady.

"that hurt like hell." yuri whined, ignoring minju rolling her eyes. the kim would have to scold her later.

"you could've just pushed the door open." jiwon scratched her cheek as the older girl rubbed her shoulder.

y/n looked at minjeong, watching as she looked between all of them. the older girl looked frightened, and it broke her heart to know that she was the cause of it.

"i didn't think about that."

she wondered if minjeong felt the same.

"y/n," the kim's eyes met hers. "she hurt me."

y/n could feel the pain bubbling in her chest. it hurt to see minjeong like this, and it hurt even more that she didn't want to help.

kim minjeong was a stranger.

"i'll do it again!" yuri tried to lunge forward, being held back by y/n as minjeong stood up.

the two were equally versed but y/n was afraid that yuri would end up biting a chunk out of minjeong given the circumstances.

y/n looked at her, hoping that her minjeong - the one she would talk to during her lowest points and the one who she ran to whenever anything happened - was still there.

she wasn't.

(or maybe, she never existed.)

"let's just go, unnie." y/n gripped yuri's shoulder lightly. the sinking in her chest was starting to get too overwhelming.

yuri didn't care, at least not right now. not when y/n seemed more torn up over minjeong than wonyoung (and it took minju convincing her for ten minutes straight to not jump the volleyball player).

minju stared at y/n, watching as tears started to form in her eyes. gently, she rested her hand on yuri's other shoulder, motioning to y/n. she could feel yuri relax.

hurting minjeong would hurt y/n more (for now. but if yuri ever got a chance...)

she turned to y/n, smiling softly. wordlessly, yuri nodded, and y/n finally felt the connection she had so desperately longed for.

y/n knew she would survive.

the girls turned to leave, and minjeong could see that her last chance was nearly out of her grasp. she couldn't let y/n go, not now, not ever.

minjeong whined like a toddler whose toy got taken away. "you're gonna leave me here?"

y/n stopped, looking down as guilt and anger began to wrack her body. jiwon looked at the older girl, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion.

"unnie?"

"i didn't want to do it!" minjeong tried to reason, grasping at anything that would make y/n stay. "you have to believe me!"

yuri inhaled, fighting all the thoughts and urges to rip a clump of hair out of minjeong's (unfortunately) unscathed scalp. she'd find another time to jump the girl, hopefully soon.

y/n turned around, her cheeks wet from the stream of tears cascading down her face. "it didn't look like that."

"y/n." minju faced the girl, shaking her head. "don't talk to her."

"shut up, minju." minjeong snarled. this was her chance. she just needed y/n to listen. "i did it out of love. i knew if you saw how jimin would just fuck any girl then-"

y/n scoffed.

"what is it?" losing someone never got easier, but losing family seemed to hurt the worst. "did she make you fuck her? or did you do it to 'show' me?"

minjeong looked down, void of guilt as she tried to find any excuse to justify her actions. she knew she was in the right, especially since she did everything for y/n, for love.

love conquers all, even logic.

"tell me the truth." y/n could feel her voice starting to break. she could feel herself getting weighed down by the confusion. she could feel herself getting ripped to shreds. "tell me why."

minjeong couldn't help but love the way y/n looked in the dark. she loved how her cheeks flushed, and the way her voice cracked as she begged for her.

she wanted - needed - y/n, every teardrop, and every whine.

"i knew it." y/n ignored jiwon's attempts to get her out of the room, letting her emotions take the better of her. "i trusted you, minjeong. i trusted you with my life. i would've never done this to you... ever."

y/n prayed it was a lie. this couldn't be her minjeong, her best friend who she trusted fully with her life. she prayed that it was some sick joke, like all of this was a prank and a television crew would come out, shoving a camera in her face.

but it was too real. the pain felt too real.

"i don't understand." y/n let a sob slip out, and minjeong couldn't help but note the pain that was caused by her, for her. "i thought you were my best frien-"

y/n loved her. she had to.

"i love you." minjeong stood up, walking closer to y/n. "i loved you since the day i met you, since the day i knew that you were mine."

y/n looked at minjeong.

she could smell the cup noodles that lay empty on minjeong's desk. she could hear the soft hum of her laptop, churning the heat out of its system. she could feel the warm air basking around her, like a soft blanket.

but all y/n could feel was shock.

"...what?"

minjeong needed y/n. she needed to be y/n's everything - her pain, her sorrows, her love, her lust. she needed the pretty girl that you find on screen to be hers and only hers.

y/n was her reward, her trophy for being an outstanding person and and even better lover.

it was written in stone.

"i know you love me back, y/n." minjeong had never been more hopeful in her life. she knew that everything at this moment was because of everything she did right. "this hurts you because you love me back, right? because you and i are meant to be. i'm yours and you're mine."

y/n could feel her ears ringing.

"what the fuck..." yuri covered her mouth, looking at the kims, whose eyes were wide open.

"i've always treated you right. i've always done everything right." she did all the research, all the tips and tricks. she did it all for y/n. "i never said no to you, i let you be happy, i let you do whatever you want. i did everything right, right?"

y/n couldn't breathe.

she felt disgusted, almost violated. she had trusted minjeong with her life, and the entire time, the older girl had ulterior motives.

(and deep down, y/n knew that she was the reason why she had ended up with jimin in the first place.)

minjeong kept her gaze locked on the younger girl. she could feel her heart beating out of her chest.

y/n wanted to see her, despite having her heart broken by her. she chose to be near minjeong. it meant something. it had to.

"i'm sorry."

minjeong furrowed her eyebrows.

"i don't love you, minjeong."

minjeong had never been denied anything. she had gotten into all the SKYS, gotten all the scholarships, and gotten all the love from her parents.

it wasn't supposed to be like this.

"what?"

"i've never seen you that way, minjeong." minjeong shook her head furiously, refusing to believe the words coming out of y/n's mouth. "you were always just my friend, maybe a sister at most."

this wasn't right. this wasn't how it was supposed to play out.

"but i did everything you wanted!" she had sacrificed her time, her money. "i even let you fuck whoever you want!"

"she was never yours, minjeong." minju glared at minjeong.

"shut the hell up!" minjeong gritted her teeth. minju had no right to take away what was hers. "you're acting like your girlfriend doesn't fuck bitches on the side."

yuri's eyes widened, trailing over to minju. to her left, jiwon was expressionless.

"what?" chaewon had always hidden her phone until recently. even at the party, it looked like the older girl was actively avoiding someone. "chaewon wouldn't."

she trusted chaewon. minjeong had to be lying.

"ask jimin." minju could feel the air being sucked out of her lungs. "she has videos of everything chaewon does for her."

minju hated crying.

she hated getting her makeup ruined. she hated the way streaks would carve away parts of her foundation, and how her eyes would sting as her mascara mixed with her tears. she hated how weak and vulnerable she felt, like her mask had been stripped away and she was back to being that ten year old holding her sister as they both sobbed at the thought of their family being ripped apart.

minju never cried.

she never cried at her graduation, or her eighteenth birthday. she didn't cry when her grandma died. she didn't even cry when chaewon and her broke up.

but she cried when she found out her parents divorced.

"unnie?"

jiwon hadn't seen her sister cry in years.

"you fucking bitch!" y/n quickly grabbed yuri's waist, pulling her back as she tried to jump at minjeong. making one of them cry was pushing it, but two was too much.

minju couldn't stop the tears anymore. no matter how hard she tried to hold it back, all she could think of was chaewon, of how much she loved her and how much it hurt.

minju wiped her tears quickly, but nothing helped as she stared at her younger sister.

"ji" she was supposed to be stronger for her. "i'm sorry."

jiwon was at her limit.

she could forgive minjeong for leaving her at the party. in fact, she already did. jiwon forgave her, despite the fear she had when yujin and gaeul had left her and an extremely drunk rei alone. she could forgive minjeong for how she never checked up on her after, and how she pretended that jiwon didn't exist outside of the group.

she couldn't forgive this.

"it's not my fault chaewon's a whore." minjeong loved the rush of seeing someone so hurt. "minju's always liked girls she could never ge-"

jiwon was always the stronger kim.

a loud thud echoed through the room, and jiwon could feel her knuckle make contact with minjeong's cheekbone. the force of all the pent up anger (which honestly felt good to release) sent minjeong stumbling back, craddling her cheek.

yuri looked at the younger kim in shock.

"i... i didn't mean to!" jiwon panicked, looking at minjeong's now bleeding face. "i got angry. she, she left me by myself at that party. she made y/n-unnie upset. she's always looked down on me and yuri-unnie. unnie, she made you cry. i swear it was just by accident, i just-"

minju smiled, patting her younger sister's shoulder.

"jiwon. i love you, yeah?" jiwon took a deep breath, smiling awkwardly. "just calm down, okay?"

"okay." she nodded, looking at her now bruised hand. "are you gonna tell mom?"

"no, ji." minju shook her head. "i won't."

jiwon couldn't help but sigh in relief. "okay."

"y/n," minjeong whined again. the pain in her cheek was starting to spread across her face, and the cut was starting to bleed. "she hit me. aren't you gonna help me?"

"you can do it yourself." y/n sighed, not wanting to stay any longer.

she didn't know why she felt more worried about jiwon's hand than the cut on minjeong's cheek. all y/n knew was that she was tired of everything.

she just needed a break.

"that's not fair." minjeong didn't understand why y/n couldn't see it. "it's what i deserve after i treated you right."

"i didn't need you to treat me right." y/n didn't know how else to explain it. "i needed you to treat me like a friend."

"but i love you." minjeong loved the way y/n needed her. "i don't wanna be just your friend. it's not fair."

the world had always been filled with only yes's for minjeong, sakura being a fluke.

she didn't understand why it happened again.

"i don't owe you anything, minjeong."

minjeong frowned. "but you owe wonyoung something?"

maybe jimin was right. maybe the only person standing in the way of her and y/n was wonyoung. it was the girl who had everything, despite being nothing.

minjeong hated jang wonyoung.

"wonyoung has nothing to do with this." y/n said truthfully.

"you love her, don't you?" minjeong always lost to the bad guys. "even after she treated you like shit."

"wonyoung never treated me like shit." y/n countered. the argued at times, like couples always do, but wonyoung had always treated her like royalty. "we disagreed at times but-"

"but i never disagreed with you!" minjeong could feel the cut on her cheek move as she scrunched her face. "i said everything you wanted to hear!"

y/n wanted a lot of things.

"but it was never what i needed."

"you don't know what you need." minjeong reasoned, her cheek now swelling against her hand. "i'm what you need."

"jiwon," yuri looked at the younger kim, fresh cuts on her knuckle. "punch her again."

minju rolled her eyes, shaking her head as jiwon looked at her for permission. "don't."

"let's just go." y/n sighed. the longer they stayed, the more likely jiwon and yuri were gonna get arrested. "jiwon's gonna need to ice her hand."

jiwon looked at her hand and shrugged.

"it's okay! i feel great!" the younger kim smiled, flexing her hand. "i feel like i can jump from the roof right now, like superman."

"i would pay money to see that."

minju sighed. she was happy that yena didn't come, otherwise she was sure to egg yuri on and jiwon would most likely jump off the second-floor balcony.

"oh." a slurred voice entered the room as the smell of weed wafted from behind the girls. "hi?"

they turned around, coming face to face with someone unfamiliar.

her hair was bleached blonde, her body draped in expensive clothing. all of them could tell from her eyes that she was going to have no recollection of their meeting.

y/n had never seen someone so high out of their mind.

"sorry," minju bowed slightly. "we were just leaving."

they looked at each other, walking out quietly before the girl grabbed y/n's arm gently.

"wait." she squinted, y/n taking note of how bloodshot the girl's eyes were. "you're the girlfriend."

y/n looked around. "me and jimin aren't together anymore."

"jimin?" the girl didn't know jimin had a girlfriend. "i was talking about vicky?"

y/n didn't know of a vicky on campus. of course, she didn't know the majority of the people but she assumed that she would've at least heard of her.

sensing her confusion, the girl continued to speak.

"victory?" she let go of y/n's arm as the taller girl looked at her friends who all shrugged. "like vicky jang?"

"wonyoung?" y/n tilted her head.

wonyoung had never been given a title before, and a sense of pride seemed to burst through her chest and into her veins. they had talked about it frequently during first year, and how wonyoung wished she had a title like yoo 'the ace' jimin or hirai 'the machine' momo.

it had a nice ring to it. wonyoung 'vicky (victory)' jang.

the girl tapped her cheek, a blush spreading across her face. "you're saying she's single?"

y/n's face darkened at the thought of girls liking wonyoung. her stomach churned as she realized that wonyoung probably liked said girls back.

she shook her head. now wasn't the time to get jealous over someone that wasn't hers.

"it was nice to finally meet you." y/n said stiffly, frowning as she pushed the girls out. she ignored yuri's teasing stares and tried her best to disregard minjeong pleading her to stay.

the room fell quiet as y/n closed the door behind her.

"unnie? were those your friends?" slowly, the girl turned to minjeong. she gasped, nearly choking as her eyes adjusted to the sight of her face.

"what the hell happened to you?"

minjeong rolled her eyes, searching for something to stop the bleeding.

"do you need ice or something?" the girl asked.

"can you fuck off, yizhuo?"

"whatever." minjeong was in one of her moods again (and not the fun ones).

she placed herself in bed as minjeong rummaged for vaseline. if minjeong was gonna act snarky, then yizhuo could find a different way to entertain herself.

she was glad jimin stayed up so late.

KIM JIWOO “CHUU” @ yveslver4ever : 99. a soloist under ATRP. she’s undercover as a yves fan account, has been since y/n convinced her to make a private account. she met y/n and eunah in a park after she came up to them and started dancing. she has the inside scoop on idols and gossips with the girls about the drama. refuses to introduce chaemi to ningning because chaemi once insulted her shoes and she’s held a grudge against her since.

Niki knew that the pikachu’s on stage with them were real people dressed in a costume but that doesn’t mean he can’t get shocked after accidentally revealing one of their identities. his shock quickly changed to amusement as the revealed pikachu could only think of one thing to say as the tension in the room heightened- “pika pika?” it’s not like you could avoid him after humiliating yourself either, you still have all of tour left.

Build Up Recap Episode 7 Part 3: Judges’ Saves and Top Tiers

It’s time for another Build Up recap! In the previous post, we saw the final 3x3 death match and found out that judges get to save five contestants! So this post will be devoted to covering the judges’ saves and the eliminated contestants -- it'll be a kind of short one. Let’s do this!

The announcement of the judges’ saves creates a burst of painful hopes for the contestants. It would be so hard not to hope that they call your name, even if you’re pretty sure that they won’t. 

The guys in the green room don’t even look that happy. Sanghyun reaches over to his teammate Taewoo and says he hopes the judges will save him (Taewoo).

I couldn’t decide who that fifth one would be among this list: Driver Yunseo, Jeon Woong, Donghun, and Bitseon. They all seem like decent choices.

Then I thought about who I think the judges will save. I’m pretty sure that they’ll save Donghun, Woong, Joohee, Bain, and Bitsaeon. Let’s see if I’m right!  

The judges debate for a bit, and then it’s time to announce their decisions. 

The first contestant is one that they were unanimous about, someone who was a “pillar” on the team: Donghun. I knew it! Aww, he looks so happy and relieved.

Wendy announces the next person -- someone who seems to know his own voice now, and who knows how to calculate gestures… It’s BAIN! YAY!!! 

Everyone seems really happy for him. Except Geonu, I feel like. Just me? IDK.

The judges talk about how much they love Bain, and Baekho even says Bain was his first place pick. Yay! 

Bain is happy too. He says, “I feel like I got another new opportunity.”  

Eunkwang announces the next person, who is a trainee who is great despite not having any stage experience. And it’s…. Kim Minseo!! YES!! That’s who I wanted! So far, this is great.

I feel like Bain is happier for Minseo than he was for himself.

He can’t believe it. 

Aww! He’s so happy he’s about to pass out. He interviews that it felt better than winning to be recognized like that. I think that’s how I’d feel too. 

Solar announces the next person, who was a “rediscovery” on stage: Woong! 

His fellow idol Seunghun claps him on the back in congratulations. Woong interviews that he feels sorry that Intae and Minwook couldn’t also survive, but he promises to work even harder. 

Now, is it possible, just possible, that production interfered and told the judges to pick Woong? Maybe. He’s popular, he’s funny on camera, he gives good reactions, and he’s in a fairly popular mid-tier idol group. Look, I’m not mad that they picked Woong. I like him a lot as a human, for one thing, and for another, my record will bear out that I have liked his singing voice a lot this whole competition. But the judges picking him does leave one less space for the ones I really want. 

Let’s find out who is last. VCG announces  the person, who did a great job in every performance, not always standing out but always doing great. And it’s Bitsaeon! Oh, that’s great. I like him. 

The whole Bad News team survived after all! 

Bitsaeon’s reaction is kind of muted, but that’s probably just because he’s been through an emotional ringer and it’s too hard for him to turn on a dime. 

So, this means we are losing the whole maknae team (Ji Yeonwoo, Jeong Yunseo and Park Joohee), the entire Team Mismatch (Lim Sanghyun, Taewoo, and Neon) as well as two members from each of Team Overlooked (Jang Intae and Lee Minwook) and Team Ballad (Yoon Inhwan and Ma Jaekyung). 

I’m sad to lose pretty much all of them, except maybe Lim Sanghyun, who I think is maybe not quite cut out for this competition since he won’t sing anything but ballads. However, if you’re a big Sanghyun fan, I found this MV video he put out a year ago. It has less than 10k views and his voice sounds nice in it, so check it out if you like ballads.

I’m particularly gutted -- and surprised, honestly -- to lose Neon and Joohee, both of whom have spectacular voices. I really thought the judges would save Joohee, and I'm shocked that they don't love Neon's voice as much as I do.

I hope we'll get to hear from both of the in the future. I already mentioned this, but seriously, check out this song by Neon. It’s so cool. And here is his Spotify and here is his Instagram. And as far as Joohee and the other trainees go, I bet they’ll debut sooner or later.

Best of luck to all the eliminated guys! Fighting! I’m sure all of them earned a lot of new fans and hopefully also enjoyed spending time with other people who love singing as much as they do.

Dahee says that they’re going to form 4-member teams that will last from now until the end. But first, the judges are going to announce the top tier of each surviving team. The guys are irritated -- another Top Tier announcement? 

Sunyoul is so irritated! Luckily, if his anger turns to tears he’s wearing that absorbent blazer!

But at least it’s time for best-buds Jay and Geonu to do their little “Top Tier Time” dance.

Naturally, the editors drag it out a bit, but ultimately they announce the winner from each group. 

Among Lim Junhyeok, Yeo One, and Lee Gwangseok they chose Gwangseok. No big surprise there, though in many ways I’d say Junhyeok deserves it more. The guys point out how Gwangseok’s status on the show has gone from Top Tier to Low Tier and now back up to Top Tier. Gwangseok, of course, is happy to be back on top!

Next up is Team Taco. Among Geonu, Soomin, and Kim Seohyung, the judges chose Soomin. I mean, did I even need to tell you that? 

Among Choi Haram, Hwang Inhyuk, and Sunyoul, they choose Sunyoul. That one was a bit more of a toss up, but I respect their choice. That team was really well balanced and for me any one of them would have been a fair choice. 

And among Wumuti, Jay, and Kang Hayoon, they choose Jay of course. 

That just leaves the team consisting of Park Jeup, Choi Suhwan, and Seunghun. Obviously, the judges choose Jeup (though after a big of a debate). Now all three of this team have been chosen as Top Tier at some point or another.

Next, Dahee announces that the five top tiers -- Soomin, Jay, Gwangseok, Jeup, and Sunyoul -- have to each go to their own special Small Room of Serious Decisions. As Soomin gets up to leave, teammate Kim Seohyung says, in English, with an eerily good accent, “It was a good life.”

The other guys aren’t sure what’s going to happen, but most of them seem to trust their teammates to do right by them, whatever happens next. Hmm….

¿Quiénes eran antes de ser vampiros y qué mantienen de su antigua vida? —

Su verdadero nombre es Minseo Jang, nacida en Corea y criada en Francia. Su apellido proviene de una de las ultimas dinastías Coreanas, y su familia ha sido parte de la aristocracia por décadas, su abuelo, padre y tíos dominaban el comercio de textiles en los 1900s, manteniéndose como las familias más ricas de Corea de la época. Desde niña gozó de riquezas y privilegios. Vivió en un palacio sus primeros años de vida, sin nada de qué preocuparse, se perdía por los interminables pasillos y jardines corriendo con sus hermanos y hermanas. Mostró interés en el ballet desde que tenía cinco años, le contrataron una profesora privada, y tenían un salón de baile enorme en el palacio, en dónde le enseñaban a ella y sus hermanas. Su madre repetía que debía ser una mujer inteligente y capaz, por lo que le dieron una buena educación en casa, le enseñaron a hablar cinco idiomas, y por su parte, disfrutaba leyendo la interminable colección de libros de sus abuelos y bis abuelos de la biblioteca del palacio. Minseo siempre fue disciplinada, y estaba determinada a ser la mejor bailarina, y la mejor estudiante. La mejor en todo lo que se propusiera. Con esfuerzo diario, logró pulir sus habilidades hasta convertirse en un cisne danzante, era grácil y elegante al moverse y todos la alababan. Destacar en lo académico le era más sencillo, inclinandose por las ciencias, filosofía y el arte. Con los años se atrevió a presentarse en teatros junto a su academia de baile. Fueron las memorias más destacables de su adolescencia en Corea.

Gracias al negocio de su padre, se mudaron a Paris, Francia. Se encargaban de importar telas de alta calidad desde Corea a las fabricas de moda francesas. Este estilo de vida permitió a Minseo llevar una vida de riqueza y ocio, y fomentar su carácter social en fiestas de alto prestigio, a pesar de que aborrecía con toda su alma las fiestas y socializar con gente superficial, se requería su presencia obligatoria en cada una de las veladas de los ricachones de Paris, su padre estaba expandiendo su marca y buscaba nuevos socios. Por su parte la menor de los Jang, se encargó de hacer buenas amistades. Con gustos a fines, como su creciente gusto por la moda y la confección de vestuario. Recibió lecciones por parte de dos de los mejores asistentes de Henriette Rousseau, una popular diseñadora de modas del país. Minseo comenzó confeccionar vestidos y trajes para ella misma, y vestía sus propios diseños en las fiestas de la alta sociedad. Inicialmente como un entretenimiento que luego derivó en un negocio comercial de notable aceptación entre sus clientes.

Se casó a los veinte años, con un un miembro rico de la clase alta inglesa. Él ayudó con el negocio de su amada, la instaló en un apartamento en París y financió sus primeras cinco tiendas. Jang enviudo dos años después. Su esposo murió por un accidente de auto, pero se sospechaba de manipulación en los frenos del auto. Mingseo heredó todas sus riquezas, y se especulaba de que ella lo había mandado a asesinar, pero los únicos rumores que eran ciertos, es que nunca lo amó tanto como él a ella, pero lo amó. Desde entonces, las tonalidades de sus diseños se inclinaron a una paleta oscura en donde prevalece el negro, para representar su luto, él amor eterno de su difundo esposo. Su línea de invierno, fue su debut como diseñadora. Fue inmediatamente un éxito y fue el epítome de la elegancia oscura durante décadas.

( tw: muertes por incendio ) La muerte de Minseo fue un atentado en contra de la familia entera, los comerciantes franceses no estaban felices con la llegada de unos extranjeros liderando el negocio. Incendiaron una de las mansiones de los Jang, con toda la familia dentro. La única que logró salir ilesa del fuego fue Minseo, gracias a un vampiro que estaba obsesionado con ella y la vigilaba desde la oscuridad religiosamente todos los días, tras conocerla en una fiesta. Minseo, nuevamente heredó todas las riquezas de la familia Jang y los rumores volvían a rondarla. Algunos la creían tan maquiavélica, como para ser la perpetradora de ambos accidentes.

¿Qué sabe sobre  quien los convirtió en vampiros? —  ( ¿Cuál es su relación con la persona que le otorgó este estilo de vida? ¿Sabe por qué lo hizo, o siquiera le conoce? )

Azriel era un tipo encantador, con todas las palabras correctas para decirle a una chica de veintitrés años, viuda, sin familia y con la presión del mundo de la moda sobre sus hombros. Sin tapujos le contó sobre los vampiros, la mascarada y la monarquía que rige en todas partes del mundo. A la muchacha no le quedaba nadie en su vida como mortal, fue ella quién lo pidió. Quería ser inmortal como él, una belleza eterna, irrompible y a quienes otros teman. Él se lo concedió. Con todo un ritual, como era propio del extravagante vástago antiguo. Tras el termino de una fiesta elegante en su honor, al quedarse a solas, la Abrazo. Le confesó años después, que él fue el responsable de la muerte de su esposo. Y que por primera vez en sus décadas de no-vida, se había enamorado de una mortal.

Tenían una relación estrecha, Mortisse (como decidió bautizarse tras su conversión) era una cainita feroz y elegante por igual, se adaptó fácil por su fuerza de voluntad. Nunca llegaron a tener un romance, a pesar de qué el vástago decía estar encantado por la joven, la consideraba demasiado pequeña. Él la cuidó y protegió en sus primeros días como su chiquilla. Le enseñó a adaptarse y a defenderse por sí sola. Mortisse, decidió partir caminos. Y a pesar que logró perdonar lo de la muerte de su esposo, decidió castigarlo sin su presencia en la no-vida eterna del vampiro. Se mudo a Japón desde hace una década, y aunque Azriel sabe dónde encontrarla, no quiere crear problemas entre ellos.

Además, a publicado libros de distintas categorías, como autobiografías y fantasía por sobre todo, ha publicando bajo seudónimos distintos a lo largo de los años.

Vendió su marca, y está vigente hasta la actualidad. Sigue confeccionando sus propios diseños para vestirse a sí misma por pasión.

Mnet idol survival show BOYS PLANET (the boys version of the successful GIRLS PLANET 999 which spawned Kep1er) has released a set of profile images of the competing trainees.. The series debut is scheduled for February 2nd.

Build Up Ep 6 Recap Part 1: Bad News

Welcome back to the only recap series about MNET’s Build Up that is being written by me! In the previous post, we finished episode 5 (almost) and covered the first performance of round one of the 3x3 death match, Pray (I’ll Be Your Man). In this one, we’ll cover the ranking from the end of episode 5 and then dive in to the second performance, Bad News. There will also definitely be some actual bad news, no matter which team you prefer. Let’s face the music. 

First things first I’m the realest: Let’s cover the ranking from the end of episode 5, which I forgot to mention in the previous recap. I am not clear what these rankings are for, as a lot of the people on the list have already been eliminated, but here we are. Those who have been eliminated already have a strike through in their name. I also will note how much they rose/fell since the previous ranking. Here we go:

Ok, let’s get to episode 6! 

Once we get the recappy stuff out of the way, we get back to the second team to perform, the team consisting of Bain, Bitsaeon, and Kim Minseo. In the previous round, Bain and Minseo sang River and came in second place; new recruit Bitsaeon had been partnered with Jay for their excellent (but losing) performance of Dangerously. 

The team is really nervous because the stakes are high and the previous team, Jeup’s team, did really well with Pray (I’ll Be Your Man). 

Dahee asks Team Bitbain if they’re nervous. The English captions punk out a bit, but it’s the same clip that we saw at the end of episode 5. Basically Bitsaeon just says that the other team did well, but they themselves practiced hard too and believe in themselves. 

VCG encourages them, saying “You were my top three in the last round.” That doesn’t quite make sense, since they weren’t a team of three in the last round, but I get what he means. They’re good! They’re really good. We’re reminded of how well Bitsaeon did with Dangerously and how well the other two did with River. 

Then we’re also reminded of the Rival Choosing ceremony, when Jay’s team went to the Moodboard of Doom and set it so that Team Bitbain would have to face the team they most wanted to avoid -- Jeup’s team. Guys, I don’t feel well. Why did these two teams have to get matched up? Sigh. 

Bitsaeon says he’s been thinking about song selection.

When he thinks about Jeup’s team and their harmonies, it makes him feel dizzy. He kind of wants to avoid going straight up against Jeup’s team by also doing insane high pitched harmonies. Instead, he wants to come up with a song that will be unexpected. Bain and Minseo feel like Bitsaeon knows what he’s doing and are happy to let him strategize. 

On a day that we’re told is the next day but clearly isn’t based on how much everyone’s hair has grown…

Bitsaeon says he wants something kind of like River or Dangerously, but “upgraded” -- something new. Bain seems to be the one who suggests Kiss of Life’s song Bad News. I knew I liked Bain. You guys, I’m a Bain fan for life. 

You guys, I don’t even talk about how much I love, love, love, LOVE Kiss of Life because I feel like they’re invisible somehow. I just don’t see people talking about them. But omg, I love them. They’re so talented, and they’re all adults. They’re like a supergroup but they’re rookies. I love them so much. Let me just tell you about them for a moment.

Natty was the ultra talented li’l baby on Sixteen, the show that created Twice. She’s Thai and is a fantastic and charismatic dancer, and also a singer of unusual range

Belle is an S+ tier singer with whistle tone ability. She’s like Ariana Grande or something, but she also writes songs, and in fact co-wrote Unforgiven by Le Sserafim.

Julie is from Hawaii and has a velvety vocal color and the best smile and the most swag and can also pirouette on one foot like what what are you

Haneul is the only fully Korean member and is a cute maknae who attracts a lot of stans, and is also a very good vocalist

They do a thing where their videos are like mini movies with intersecting storylines. So, if you want to watch the video for Bad News, be sure to watch the video for Nobody Knows right after it to get the rest of the story. Also, then you should watch a live performance of Nobody Knows because their live singing is unbelievable and also the choreography is EVERYTHING. 

I’ve been thinking about how a team should have done Nobody Knows as their song for the second round, because it’s so sexy and interesting, but then I thought, yeah, but Kiss of Life are rookies -- would anyone even know these songs? And they do! And my favorite team is going to do one! I’m so happy!! Even if they lose, this is going to be a great performance.

Ok anyway back to it. The on screen captions describe Bad News as a mix of rock and hip-hop, which is fair, and Bitsaeon says that it’s different from anything they’ve done so far, which is also true. They’re having a little trouble deciding how to handle Belle’s really cute squeak on the word “moves” in the chorus. Bain is a little stressed out about it but it sounds good. He says he’s going to practice it to death. 

Oh no, Bain, please don’t overpractice and destroy your voice. 

The performance begins.

I actually like the song slightly better in this key, and they made it more Western-y and less hip-hoppy and I love it, which surprises me because I don’t listen to country music or anything. But this WORKS. Ok, let’s see the live version. Please, oh please, may Bain’s voice hold out.

My thoughts:

Well, this was obviously fantastic. Amazing, great, loved it, perfect, wouldn’t change a thing about the performance itself. I have to assume, without seeing any of the others, that this performance would have/could have/should have beaten almost any other performance.

And just as obviously, it will lose this round.

They spent too much time rapping and not enough time showcasing their fantastic vocals, and the song is just not emotional enough to overcome the juggernaut of Jeup’s team.

I mean, maybe I’m wrong and they win but I feel pretty sure that they lost. I’m just glad they went down swinging and hopefully they won some new fans.

Minseo was possibly the weakest of the three, and he was still fantastic. I think some of the notes were slightly too deep for him, and others were a tiny bit too high, and it made him occasionally a bit pitchy. But I still love, love, love his vocal color, his absence of nasality, and his swagger and confidence on stage. Minseo, fighting! I hope you debut soon! 

I also love Bitsaeon’s voice. He shines so much better with this team than he did with Jay’s. Like, ok, maybe he didn’t wear a fuzzy sweater this time, but he sounded like a real rapper when he rapped and his power notes were powerful. No nasality, no pitchiness, just all good technique and plenty of stage presence. Bitsaeon, fighting! I’ll keep up with M.O.N.T. to keep up with you!

Bain has my favorite voice of the three. Ok, is he Park Jeup? No. He doesn’t have Jeup’s insane range. But Bain’s natural vocal color is nicer than Jeup’s (to me) and he can still hit fairly high notes without straining or using falsetto. I can feel the proper technique just oozing out of him. He’s so good. Also, he raps just as well as he sings. He hits every consonant and vowel and brings interest and *blam* to it as he goes.

I don’t know, fam -- for me he’s got that RM / Joohoney energy that I love so much in an idol. Like, ok, maybe he doesn’t meet Kpop beauty standards but he doesn’t have to because he has an “it” factor on stage. Like his “to the left to right back and forth…” part in the bridge, I mean, it was kind of sexy, wasn’t it?  Also, I’m predicting now that his “on & on & on” toward the beginning will get an instant replay and reaction. Let’s see if I’m right.

In the MNET edit, we hear a judge call out “Oh, cowboy!” in English at the start. And overall, everyone seems to be having a great time watching. The other contestants look amazed and the judges are bopping. And yes, of course, Bain’s  “on & on & on” did get an instant reply. 

VCG cheers for Bain’s high pitched squeals.

Jaehwan jumps to his feet. 

I feel like this is the most we’ve seen Wendy enjoy a performance on the show.

Backstage, balladeer Yoon Inhwan turns to Donghun and says, “It’s as if he’s possessed!” (I think he’s talking about Bain.)

Dahee is also having a great time. 

When they’re done, everyone cheers. 

Sorichir-ra! (MAKE SOME NOISE!!)

Geonu points like, “that’s my teammate!” 

Everyone loved it. Someone -- I think Wendy? -- says “I was completely slain by Bain.” Yes, Bain was undoubtedly the MVP here. VCG and Jaehwan, still talking about Bain, say “He’s at his peak. He totally knows what’s going on. He totally knows what he’s good at.” Wendy agrees, saying, “IT all comes out on stage.”

It’s time for the judges to evaluate, and they don’t really want to, you can tell. They’re like, “how do you judge something like this?” It’s like choosing between a pair of shoes and a bowl of ice cream. Like, what do you want to do with it? What do you need right now? 

Baekho says, “I have nothing to say. It was just so good. I forgot that it was a survival program -- it felt like I was just watching a concert.”

Dahee is grinning, looking over at the guys to see how this praise is affected them, but you can see that it’s not quite enough. They won’t feel at peace until they know the actual outcome.   

But Dahee is still the best. What is she wearing? What is that? She’s still the best. 

Baekho goes on, “There was a part that was particularly impressive. Bain-shi, the performance really showed how well you use your voice.” And we get the “on&on&on” part again. Fair. 

EVERYONE, I TOLD YOU ABOUT BAIN. I TOLD YOU. 

Baekho continues, “Bain gets possessed on stage! If there were someone like him on my team, I’d feel so thankful.” 

Wendy says, “I really enjoyed watching it. I felt like I was watching a concert, too.” She likes how they walked in at the beginning, like cowboys, and how they kept the energy up. 

VCG asks Minseo how long he has been a trainee, and he says 4 years. VCG says that if Minseo is this good after only a few actual performances, what more is he capable of in the future? Both VCG and Solar are excited to see where he goes next. Solar is like, “You’re obviously with an agency, right?” And Minseo says, “um, actually… no…” And Solar is like WTF? VCG says that if he were CEO of an agency, he’d take Minseo immediately. I think that’s on the horizon….

 Backstage, Woong looks right into the camera and says “Brand New Music! Call him right now!!!” (At least, I think that’s what he says. They bleep out part of the company name.)

I guess there’s no time to compliment Bitsaeon, which is a bummer; I think he also did really well. But now it’s time to make BPR Unnie unhappy. 

The judges have to vote for which team did better, and they joke about going on strike, saying that they just can’t choose. But they do choose, of course. 

Who are we losing of my two favorites, Jeup or Bain? 

COMMERCIAL BREAK! 

I repeat, who are we losing of my two favorites, Jeup or Bain? 

The blue votes are for Team Bit-Bain, and the red votes are for Jeup’s team. So guest judge, Wendy, and Jaehwan went with team Bit-Bain, while Baekho, Solar, VCG, and Eunkwang went for Jeup’s team.

We’re losing Bain, Bitsaeon, and Minseo.  

They hold it together with dignity. Bain even has it in him to give the other team the thumbs up. Class act.

Jeup is sort of pacing around with his hand on his ribcage, as if he’s trying to calm his heart. He’s crying a little. Oh, no, MY heart! And your heart! WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT ALL OUR HEARTS? 

Suhwan steps forward to speak on behalf of his team, and says things like they worked hard and think both teams did well and thank you everyone and yadda yadda. 

Dahee talks to Jeup, saying, “You must have been very nervous.” 

Baekho picks up his mic and says, “Careful now, you’ll lose your muscles if you don’t stop crying.” If anyone would know, it’d be Baekho!

Jeup clears his throat and says, “I normally don’t cry. Actually, this performance was a bit scary. The other team was so good, and I’m the oldest member of my team. I thought I shouldn’t let my teammates know about my anxiety. I think it was very difficult in many ways. Before the performance, I told my teammates to be calm, but I think I was talking to myself. Thank you, everyone.” 

Dahee says that Bain, Bitsaeon, and Minseo have been eliminated. 

Bain says, “I had a lot of fun on stage. Bitsaeon and Minseo worked so hard.”

He’s fighting back tears, but he goes on. “Of course, I do feel sad. But it was great to show you myself through Build Up.

The judges reassure them that they really did a really good job too. They’re sad that they have to send away a team that did so well.

But backstage, Bain’s team seems to be relatively at peace. They know they did well and they’re still proud of the job they did, even if they’re sad that they lost. At least they went out on a high note.
