Idk how to explain it but Sam and Jack have the same vibes as the Pride and Prejudice hand flex to me.

It’s military regulations rather than societal expectations that have created this intangible wall between them. Like… there’s tension, but they still find this equilibrium and connection with each other in warmth and humor, and small touches, and fleeting moments of softness that hint at a depth emotion they hide out of necessity.

First of all, in case you're keeping track, this is the last time we hear "Sam" from the Colonel for quite a while... maybe ever? Don't ask how or why I know these things. Just go read my pinned fanfic if you're really into this sort of obsessive Sam/Jack (SamJack, Car'Neill, O'Carter, JamSack, SpaceJam, etc.) observation.

Second, this is probably one of my least favorite episodes. I've read that this script was actually re-worked due to RDA filming availability conflict so it comes across weird with having Amanda delivering lines that were written for him, but that's not why I dislike it. Minor rant incoming. I fully agree with the message of this episode, however, the delivery is so very, very, very ON. THE. NOSE. I really enjoy subtlety when I'm being preached to. A GOOD example of this sort of thing is "The Other Side" and the If you could kill baby Hitler, would you do it? dilemma.

Third, vagina faced aliens in quicksilver robes.

Fourth, Jack & Daniel being Jack & Daniel. Jack to Daniel with finger on the trigger: "How do I know you're really you?" Daniel: "Because..." Jack: "Yeah, okay."

At some point I want to go back and like, rewrite the big Jamsack post so it's less wanky (I wrote it like 10+ years ago) but also that would just be a special treat for me because I don't think most people are reblogging from the sauce anyway.

i’ve lost a fic and it’s bugging me so much cos i wanna read it but i don’t know what it’s called or who it’s by 😩

for some reason sam wasn’t assigned to sg1 but she was sent off with another sg team who ran into some trouble off world and they left her there? i can’t remember but maybe they thought she was dead? anyway sg1 goes back to that planet a few years later and sam’s there (and angery) and she’s set up a lab in a temple or something and she’d built a telescope (? might be fic mixing here), and there are aliens who do hurt stuff i think, and jamsack catch feelings and lust and plan to totally bang when they get back to earth but then hammond tells them he’ll be assigning sam to sg1 and it’s a bit bittersweet? please tell me i’m not imagining this awesome fic?

Sam/Jack is such a good ship.

They love each other and they are both aware the other loves them. That much is never in question.

But they are kept separate by regulations.

Either one could retire or transfer, but they are bound by duty and love to be the tip of humanity’s spear in the war against the goa’uld. That is where they are needed most. That is where they do the most good. That is where they can stand side-by-side, protecting and caring for each other and their brothers. Close, but never touching.

To walk away would be a betrayal and a dereliction of duty.

So they stay.

He leads. She follows. He falls. She breaks the laws of physics to bring him back. He trusts her. She performs miracles. He watches in awe. She weaves with the threads of the universe.

He jokes. She ducks her head and smiles.

Sam and Jack stay locked in this strange decaying orbit. They can’t leave and neither wants to. So they spin closer and closer, but can never be as one as long as nothing changes. The distance between them diminishes, getting infinitesimally smaller but never reaching zero, never touching. A curve and its asymptote.

It drives me insane.

It’s poetry. It’s symmetry. It’s drama. It’s angst. It’s comfort. It’s tension. It’s relief. It’s home.

it's come to my attention (i searched my tags) that i first referenced Sam/Jack as "JAMSACK" (always capitalized so ppl knew it was a joke i guess) in tags back in 2012. not that i was producing content so much as reblogging it but lol whatever culpability i have in that sorry not sorry

it definitely predates that, and predates tag culture in general. this is like crabs evolving independently like 9 times and frankly, it concerns me that we as a fandom are apparently destined to arrive at “jam sack” as a viable name for anything we then profess to enjoy
