not a ship question but do you have any headcanons about schneider and the kids?

BOY DO I. I love this question and I love you. I....have....SO MANY??? So lemme just do one otherwise this post will be endless.  

(Also to give credit where credit is due: A lot of this one comes from chatting with @anextrapart, because she’s amazing)

Right after Schneider relapses, Elena does a deep dive on sobriety and recovery. 

Her desk is covered with books and articles about it. She can recite the the twelve steps from memory. She knows where all the AA meetings are within a 25 mile radius 

In the first thirty days of his sobriety, she throws away all her abuelita’s rum, their cooking wine, mouthwash, NyQuil

Then, just to be sure, she throws away all of their vanilla extract, too 

Which is fine and everything, but then Alex gets the flu, her mom is wondering where her unopened, Costco-sized mouthwash went, and her abuelita is yelling about not being able to cook anything for dinner 

"Mucinex works just as well, if not better than Nyquil. Mami, there’s an alternative to mouthwash that’s more holistic and natural and you can make it with essential oils and baking soda, and abuelita, there are other recipes you can make that don’t include alcohol or vanilla” 

“Vanilla, yes. But the rum is for me to drink while I cook” 

Schneider hears about all of this later, of course -- and on accident -- when Penelope comes and asks him if he has any essential oils 

Which, of course he does, Pen, he’s not a heathen -- what does she need it for? 

“I need to make my own mouthwash since Elena threw all ours away and this was the cheapest way to do it” 

“Why did Elena...oh.” 

And he looks so upset and guilty about it, but he definitely shouldn’t because it’s just mouthwash and the essential oil way actually does seem way cheaper anyway, so score

Which is exactly what she tells him as she reaches over to grab his hand 

“And she’s only doing it because she loves you and cares about you and wants to support you. We all do” 

So she next time Elena shows up at his apartment to grab some tools, he sits her down and hands over a very expensive bottle of organic, natural vanilla extract from his pantry 

Because he doesn’t want her to worry about him having it, and also he feels like he owes Lydia some vanilla now 

And he also tells her that he appreciates her support, but he’s going to be okay, she doesn’t need to do all this

“I just want you to feel like we love you and support you, Schneider. You’re important to us and you’re doing such a hard thing and I don’t want you to feel like you have to do it alone.” 

And he just smiles at that and gets a little teary, and thinks about how lucky he is and how much he doesn’t deserve this but how happy he is to have it anyway

He tells her to take out her phone and then gives her a phone number to put in there 

“And who is this?” 

“That’s Nick, my sponsor. If you ever get worried about me or feel like I need someone to check in on me, he’s there for you to contact.” 

Then she asks him about how his sobriety is going, about which AA meetings he’s attending, the step that he’s on 

And Schneider very patiently answers her questions -- talks about the groups he goes to, shows her his 30 day chip, tells her about his moral inventory 

Then he pulls out his wallet and takes out a folded up piece of paper and shows it to her 

At the top it says relapse prevention plan, and it lists five people he can call when he’s craving alcohol, five activities he can do to get his mind off it 

Nick is first on his list, but right next to it, sharing the first spot, is her Mami 

And on his list of activities, right below “go to an AA meeting,” is “go to the Alvarezes”  

“So don’t worry, ok? I got a plan to make sure I’m gonna be ok.” 

She looks at it and smiles, then has an idea and runs out of his apartment and down to her own 

She runs in, grabs a pair of scissors, rifles through a drawer and spends time carefully trimming the edges of the photo in her hand before running back up to Schneider 

Who’s just looking at her, totally confused when she hands him a small, neatly trimmed photo just big enough to fit in his wallet 

He looks down at it -- it’s a photo of the entire family at Penelope’s graduation. It’s not the one that got framed and put up in the apartment, or the one he blew up poster sized and hung in his art gallery room 

Instead, it’s one of the hundred or so that didn’t make it to print status

It’s slightly off center, and he can see where she had to cut out Dr. B and Tito to make the photo fit into his wallet 

Him and Penelope are in the center of the photo, his arm is around her and his mouth is open in excitement as he looks down at her 

Her arm is around his waist and she’s looking at him, the camera catching her mid laugh and glowing 

His other arm is around Lydia, who’s looking directly at the camera, smiling and joyful 

On the other side of Penelope is Elena, her arms wrapped around Penelope’s waist, her head rest against her shoulder, looking at her mami with a big, proud smile 

Alex is on the other side of her, his arm slung around Elena’s shoulder, staring into the camera with a wide, happy smile without any trace of his trademark cool smirk 

He stares at it for a long time, the love in his heart so big, so total, so completely full 

Then he looks back up at Elena, who’s smiling at him, quiet and happy and affectionate 

And he asks “What’s this for?” even though he thinks he already knows 

And Elena shrugs and puts it into his wallet, right next to where he keeps that folded up piece of paper 

“Just another thing to help you know that you’re gonna be ok.”

12) Who is your favourite character to write for? Why?

I would say Tony and Natasha! I used to find them challenging to write, and I still do to some extent, but it’s fun. I get to put myself in different mindsets and moods and Idk I just love the challenges they bring! I would also say Rhodey bc I drink that ‘love and respect James Rhodes’ juice.

33) What’s the biggest compliment you’ve gotten?

I’ve had friends cry while reading my stuff. As awful as that sounds, I was glad bc it meant my writing made an impact and touched people!

50) If you could write only angst, fluff or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why?

Angst! I like a lot of “angst with a happy ending” stories bc I personally enjoy the realism and nitty-grittiness of some of the themes presented in angst fics and I hope to touch on some of those too.

chris evans is pretty much always my top chris, peak Chris, the softbro to whom all other Chrises should aspire. also he’s supposedly back together w/ jenny slate now which nets him an instant top spot for excellent taste

chris hemsworth has Risen recently due to thor promo giving us a lot of beautiful moments (thank u, taika) and also i think his brother is hot

chris pine remains a solid 3 due to my leftover goodwill from the wonder woman movie and bc of his nice eyes

chris pratt currently at number 4, can move up as far as #2 during parks and rec or jurassic world rewatches but drops back down every time i remember the passengers movie

Ahhhhh how did we miss this!?I can’t answer for both of us on all of these, but I shall do my best:

1-Favorite fic we wrote this year:

For 2017, we didn’t do a lot new. We’re reallllyyyy excited about Nowhere but Everywhere (which is why we’re working so slowly, perfectionism much?) but Metal and Bone has a special place in our hearts, too.

3-Favorite line/scene you wrote this year:

I can definitely only answer this one for me and not Ophiliad, but this year I think the winner has to be a tie between a few lines of Three to Five,

“Dying wouldn’t have been excuse enough not to make it to her,” and “When her breath isn’t right there on his skin making living real, it’s like waking up a corpse.”

I was really, really happy with both of those. 

14-A fic we didn’t expect to write:

Oh, DEFINITELY Metal and Bone. 

21-Most memorable comment or review:

Oh man, for both of us, we had an offer to translate Metal and Bone into Russian that we freaking LOST IT over. 

For just me, there were also a couple that came in on No Words even though it’s an older one that got me pretty good. I’m so glad to see that one still having an impact even though you now have to squint and lean into denial for it to be canon-compliant/it doesn’t reference any of the pure gold from TPs1.

I’m sorry that i’ve been a little bit slow on this next part - the holidays get crazy - but trust that I’m working on it! this has more mrs. abaya and curtis and david -- in fact, here’s a little snippet of curtis and david making fun of Frank’s EXTRA AF self lmao!

“So, I didn’t realize that you and Karen had been in touch,” David says, looking across the table at him.

He huffs out a sardonic laugh and sits down heavily across from him, then picks up his beer bottle and takes a swig before answering.  

“So, what - you two -. “ He levels the bottle and between where David and Curtis are sitting. “You just gossiping about me while I’m in the bathroom?” He shakes his head. “Maybe I shouldn’t’ve introduced you two after all.”

Curtis laughs as David shrugs, a grin stretched out across his face.

“Gifts on her windowsill, Frank? Really? I was half-joking when I said that to you.”

“I don’t know why you’re even surprised,” Curtis says, leaning back in his chair and eyeing David. “You knew about the flowers on the windowsill from before. I just found all this shit out last week.”

“Which, by the way,” David says, narrowing his eyes at Frank, “I can’t believe you’ve been coming over twice a week for, like, over a month and you never mentioned this.”  

Frank purses his lips, then shrugs.

“Never asked.”

David huffs.

“I was trying to be, you know - cordial or some shit. Wait for you to bring it up.”

Frank takes another drink. 

“Not really much to bring up, David.”

Curtis laughs as David swivels in his chair and looks at Frank incredulously.  

“You and Karen are leaving each other hats and photos and whatever other shit on her windowsill like you’re in some sort of 18th century, like, Victorian novel or something.” David narrows his eyes, tilts his head at Frank. “I mean, you do know we have email, right? The postal service, even?”

“Nah, that shit’s not dramatic enough for Frank,” Curtis says, a truly shit eating grin on his face. “Man’s got a love for the theatrics.”
