Practicing a Skillshare class I enrolled in recently ("Dot Pattern - Smart Texture in Photoshop” by Jamie Bartlett.) Running from danger here is Ceony and her origami dog, Fennel from first book the The Paper Magician trilogy. I really love it (and I have to start the 3rd book that I got for Christmas!) It reminds me so much of the world of Howl’s Moving Castle, which I love to escape though, so I highly recommend reading it.

Ice Yoga: The Final In Thoughts Over (Frozen) Matter MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Standing on a windy, frozen lake doesn’t sound interesting to most — however that’s simply what a number of Minnesotans do to be able to loosen up. The orange glow on the horizon introduced a sliver of serenity to a tundra-turned yoga studio. “Simply get into that cozy mindset. Think about that you just’re on a seaside someplace,” stated yoga teacher Jamie Bartlett. “Discover that breath. Discover that heat.” Bartlett and far of her close-knit class dwell across the now-frozen Crooked Lake in Anoka County. She teaches lessons in the summertime on the lake with everybody on paddleboards. With it being a light winter thus far, she puzzled if the out of doors train may proceed. “We had been simply hanging out on a Sunday afternoon and I’m like, ‘Let’s do ice yoga!’” Bartlett stated. It’s an concept some would possibly take into account to loopy. “Nicely, we’re [crazy],” stated participant Jamie Wilson. “However that’s Minnesota, so we’re simply out right here attempting to have time.” (credit score: CBS) Even with gloves on, fingertips felt practically frozen as every minute handed. The wind hitting the ladies’s faces may simply pull them out of their tranquil state. However fairly than fear about how their our bodies had been feeling, they centered on their minds. “It’s all about the way you’re pondering, the positivity, the ideas that you’ve and simply actually staying centered and intentional with every part that you just’re doing,” stated Wilson. All had been sporting full winter gear most fitted for ice fishing, which may make shifting between poses really feel clunky. “It’s possible you’ll really feel a bit of tighter. You may not have the ability to bend as far,” stated Bartlett. Throughout the class, music on a conveyable speaker immediately turned off. Bartlett’s cellphone, which was enjoying the music and had a full battery, had died from the chilly. The challenges in these circumstances are simple, however the communal connection to one another and nature — even within the face of frigid chilly — is all the heat they want. “Simply benefit from the winter and get out and simply unfold some love and pleasure and positivity,” stated Bartlett. #nowreading The Dark Net by Jamie Bartlett. If you're interested in the history of the underground Internet and history of cyphers, trolling, and TOR browsing, this is a great book to start off with. Very in depth and personal with the very people who created the different aspects of the dark net. #thedarknet #jamiebartlett #tor #darknet

What a lovely way to end off my Saturday! I'd seen posters of the show long before it began it's run at Baxter and I'd been keen to go watch it but I'd been so busy with varsity work and other things it slipped my mind. Then luckily I found out that it was running until the 1st of March, a SATURDAY ;D!! I'd already accepted that I'd missed it you see...I literally got the very last ticket! Imagine!! Unfortunately that meant that my bf didn't get one but he knew how badly I wanted to see it so he encouraged me to go along and still watch it. So I went to watch it alone. That was bummer. Anyway, so last night I managed to catch the VERY LAST show of 'Death of a Colonialist' at Baxter Theatre. It was such an honour to meet Jamie Bartlett, had never watched the actor/director on stage before, had only ever seen him on a television screen. He plays the character of 'David Genaro' on e-tv's 'Rhythm City' exceptionally well- no wander the character is so well-known in SA!
After the show I took a picture with the talented cast. They were so kind and accommodating I was quite surprised actually! Especially since they were probably tired I'd imagine. Ashleigh Harvey (who plays Jamie's daughter in the play) was the first to come out and was chatting with a couple of her friends and then Shirley Johnston also appeared, followed by Jamie who came out to shake my hand (was jumping up and down inside!hahaha) and then Nicholas Pauling. Then they posed for the pic with me, asked whether I was happy with it and thanked me for coming as I thanked THEM!
The play was amazing! From the set, music and costumes to the incredible cast! Jamie may play a villainous role on television but he sure is one funny actor!! I was completely mesmerized by his performance as 'Harold Smith from the beginning to the end. He is such a physical actor! I was observing so many things from the change in the way he moved, the way he spoke, to the gestures and mannerisms that transformed him into an older man...just couldn't help but see the stark contrast to 'David Genaro'. He is such a good actor!!
And Shirley Johnston! Wow!! It was also my first time watching her on stage even though she's been at Baxter before. She plays the part of 'Margaret Smith', Harold Smith's wife. Her character has terminal cancer. My, there is something to be said about quiet confidence and dignity! An incredible actress, she was SUCH a mother figure! You know how mothers always put other people before themselves? Yep! That was her. A gentle matriarch to a fault! She was always trying to keep the peace in her family, spare her children's feelings and her husband's feelings, heading the family with a quiet, caring nature.
Harold Smith was completely bonkers! hahaha, always carrying his asegai, completely absorbed by Xhosa culture and history (He was a History teacher) that he failed to notice his wife at times. At one point one of his children points this out, and his daughter gets angry that he "talks over" his wife. But he loves her deeply, that is clear. She is his world and he is incredibly saddened by the news of her illness. Their love is inspiring! A particular romantic scene when they go for a walk is one of my favourite scenes in the entire play.
The exploration of the Smith's family dynamics is something everyone can relate to whether black or white. The interactions between Jonathan and Susan Smith (the Smith children) over the phone and in person were hilarious! Any siblings could relate to them. Susan's retelling of what happened to her that caused her to emigrate to Canada...wow, the pathos, it just sucked you in and made you FEEL as if you were there with her. Like I said, an incredibly talented cast!
Award-winning plays such as Death of a Colonialist are always such a treat! The dialogue smart and simple, it struck a perfect balance between funny and serious. It tackled pertinent issues in the South African context (even today) such as a fear of violence, emigration, the effects on a family structure, differing views, the rich history of our country, xhosa culture, race, identity, relationships, dealing with illness...just so many things handled with such mastery and packed into a highly entertaining play!
Going to the theatre is always great fun, and it's a valued hobby of mine. Unlike the cinema you get to feel the action live! The music was poignant and the significance of the lesson about Xhosa culture was powerful for me as a young black Xhosa South African. I learned something new as well about my own culture whilst also seeing the different perspectives of white South Africans...it was not just entertaining, but educational as well. It was a moving and thought- provoking play. I found myself getting a bit teary-eyed in some emotional scenes then Jamie would get us laughing just as quickly again! Thoroughly enjoyed it!! Should it ever come back to the Cape I'd recommend you watch it. You won't regret it!

Used the “Hand lettering Chalk Technique” by Jamie Bartlett. I love her work and her tutorials are so quick and easy! I highly recommend her and her husband’s, Jake Bartlett, tutorials on Skillshare. Just a saying my mom always says to me, and I’ve kept as a personal mantra when the going gets tough.

When your CEO inspires you, you make art. I could have picked one of his many inspiring quotes, but this one really resonated with me because of how straightforward and profound it is. Also, Thank you to Jamie Bartlett, the design teacher on Skillshare who taught me how to animate hand lettering!
