You've been hiding in plain sight, and it appeared, oh I know Loving you once only feels wrong, I need you I always knew I'd find you, to be here is worth the wait to I'm not lying when I say, "I've been stuck by the glue onto you"

Music played quietly as you stared out the window, watching the scenery pass. The sky was painted with hues of blue, pink, and orange. It was evening and the sun was setting, meaning it was close to dinnertime and you were getting closer to Jamie’s childhood home. The well-anticipated meet-the-parents date had arrived, if you could even call it a date. 

Funny enough, you and Jamie grew up in neighboring towns, living only 15 minutes between each other’s homes. You had met through mutual friends and hit it off pretty quickly, discovering you had similar interests, hobbies, and places to visit when at home. 

“You seem awfully quiet over there,” Jamie’s words broke you out of your trance. Your face felt a sudden rush of warmth as he spoke up again, “You know you have nothing to be nervous about, right? My parents will adore you.” 

Jamie reached his hand over the center console and encompassed your own, giving you the reassurance that you needed. “You know, I don’t think that I have ever known someone quite like you, Jamie,” you express, looking over at him, “It feels like we’ve known each other for a lifetime when in reality it’s only been a few months. You’re just so special and I don’t know what I would ever do if I lost you” 

Jamie blushes, lifting your intertwined hands to his mouth to press a kiss into the back of your hand. He let out a soft giggle exclaiming that he doesn’t think that would ever be a possibility. 

It turns out that Jamie’s reassuring words were correct, his parents loved you. The minute the door opened they welcomed you with open arms. 

After dinner was over, you found yourself sitting in the living room. All sorts of home videotapes were sprawled on the floor as one played on the TV. The one on the TV showed a young Jamie at a community-organized Easter egg hunt. He was showing the camera the candy in the egg he just found. However, something in the background caught your attention. 

There, you saw yourself with one of your parents running around looking for eggs.

“Wait a minute, I think that might be me in the background,” you exclaimed in disbelief. 

Jamie hummed at your claim, “Well I mean we did grow up right by each other. It wouldn’t be too crazy that we would have gone to similar community events.” 

As other tapes played on the TV, and when the childhood photos were brought out, you found more and more of yourself in parts of each others’ childhood events. Birthday parties, other community celebrations, preschool photos. 

It turns out, you and Jamie were hiding in plain sight all this time, and it was most definitely worth the wait.

the light scratch of facial hair rubbed against the crook your neck pulled you out of your sleep. you sighed at the feeling jamie tighten his arms around you and you relaxed into his hold, your back almost melting against his bare chest.

“merry christmas, baby,” he whispered, his voice still clouded with sleep. his lips moved to plant soft kisses against the column of your neck. he smiled as he felt you turn in his arms, your back against the bed as you looked up at him. propped up on his side, he pulled away and smiled down at you.

“merry christmas, jamie,” you whispered back to him. bringing a hand up to his cheek, you pulled him down to kiss you. his lips met yours, the scruff on his face tickling your cheeks. jamie broke the kiss with a big smile on his face.

“i have a present for you,” he whispered.

“if it’s what i think it is, i can feel it against my thigh,” you laughed. jamie’s head fell against the pillows as he laughed.

“not that,” he said between laughs. “though, you can have that too if you want it.”

“later,” you said with a small wink. “what’s the present?”

“it’s in the living room. you gotta go find it,” jamie told you. he rolled over to get off of the bed, before going around the other side to wait for you. you scrambled out of bed, going to lead the way to the living room when your eyes landed on the pajama pants jamie was wearing.

“cute pants,” you said with a smile. they had a pattern with an elf playing hockey and matched your nightgown.

“thank you, they match with my girlfriend so they’re pretty sick,” he said as he pulled you into his arms. he kissed you again and smiled down at you. “you ready?”

you nodded and the two of you walked into the living room, jamie leading the way. in front of the tree, there were several boxes that you had seen before and one you hadn’t. it wasn’t too big, but it definitely wasn’t small and the lid was barely on it.

“can i open it?” you asked as you bent down to grab it. jamie nodded and told you to leave it on the ground before opening it. removing the lid, a gasp left your lips. inside the box was a tiny puppy with a bow on its collar. “jamie! are you for real? is this puppy ours?”

“yeah, baby. this is our puppy. here, take him out of the box,” jamie said, helping hold the box as you gently lifted up the tiny dog.

“hi baby!” you said as the dog licked your face. “aren’t you just the cutest little thing? jamie, he’s perfect. how did you even get him in here?”

“well, i picked him up yesterday and then z said he would watch him for the night. he dropped him off a little before you woke up,” jamie explained. “what do you think we should name him?”

“teddy?” you asked. “he’s like a little teddy bear.”

“that’s perfect.”

belle grins as she stands in her and jamie's shared bathroom in philadelphia, her camera propped up on the rectangular jewelry box resting in the middle of the two sinks.

"welcome to jamie and i's bathroom. today is. . . ," she trails off, picking her phone off the counter to check the date, "december seventeenth. so, jamie and i have been married for six months, and i think i may be pregnant. i've had pregnancy scares before, but i feel different this time."

"it is super early in the morning, jamie is at the gym with carter and cam so i thought it would be the perfect time to take a pregnancy test." she holds the wrapped test up for the camera to catch it. "i'm gonna pee on this stick and i'll be right back."

"okay, that's done." belle caps the last pregnancy test and sits it back down on the bathroom counter, "i'm really freaking nervous. jamie and i haven't really been trying for babies, but we also haven't done anything to prevent babies from happening. either way, we'll both be excited and happy."

"jack will probably be the most excited out of my brothers, and most likely will throw himself a party. he's always asking me when i'm making him an uncle and i'm sure he has a bet going on with trevor." belle nervously fidgets as she tries to think of anything to keep her mind from wondering. "why did i think this was a good thing to do on my own?"

moments later, the timer that she has set up goes off and she picks the first test up, her jaw dropping as she takes in the small 'pregnant' on the small screen, "holy fucking shit."

flipping the other test over, she jumps in place as they also read 'pregnant', and she holds them up for the camera to see them, "holy shit, i'm pregnant! i'm fucking pregnant! i wanna call my mom but at the same time i want to keep this between jamie and i until i can at least go to the doctor and confirm that i am a hundred precent pregnant."

"jamie should be home in a little bit so the next time you see us, we'll be telling him that he's going to be a dad! okay, i need to calm my nerves down."

the camera view now shows jamie scrolling through his phone on the couch, freshly showered from his morning at the gym with a few of the Flyer's players and with no mind that he was being recorded.

a sigh leaves his lips as he locks his phone, laying it on his leg and throwing his head down onto the back of the couch, "baby! come sit with me on the couch! we can watch a movie!"

a angelic giggle rings through the room before belle moves into the view of the camera, a view of the three pregnancy test tucked away in the pack pocket of her blue jean shorts. "hi."

jamie smiles widely, leaning over to kiss her softly, "hi."

"okay, i know we promised to not be those kinds of couples, but i got you a present for six months of being married." belle smiles warmly at her husband as her hand moves to the back of his neck, gently scratching at his scalp.

"hmm, that feels nice." jamie's eyes slip close for a few second before he opens them back up, turning his head to look over at his wife with a stern expression on his face, "what did i say about just buying me shit? it's my job to surprise you with stuff, not the other way around."

belle takes the test out of her back pocket and places them on his hands, "okay. open."

"holy shit! no fucking way!" jamie jumps up from the couch, pregnancy test hitting the floor as he jumps around, "no fucking way!"

the blonde watches her husband run around their living room before he rushes back over to pick the best up from the floor, his eyes closing over as he made sure he was actually seeing what he was seeing.

"baby, holy shit." jamie sits on his knees in front of belle, forehead resting on her legs as he took the moment in, "you're pregnant. baby, you're fucking pregnant."

"i'm pregnant." she runs her fingers through his hair as tears fill her eyes, one falling from her eye as she blinked. "we'll, it says that i am, but i'm not a hundred percent sold. i made an appointment for the doctor for thursday."

jamie nods, lifting his head up from her knees and bringing his hand up to wipe the tears away from her eyes, leaning forward to kiss her on the lips a few times, i love you's between each one. "i love you."

"i love you."

the video ends with a silent moment between belle and jamie, their foreheads pressed together before the screen goes black and the worlds, "baby drysdale coming 2026" appearing on the screen.
