okay so this au has been rotting away my mind for the past few days so I'm gonna share it with y'all (@basilone this is for you! 💓). if you don't want '13 hours: the secret soldiers of benghazi' spoilers don't read below the cut...

okay, so the basis of the au: leckie is ofc james badge dale's character tyrone. chuckler is the main character, jack silva. I'm also totally here for snafu being tanto but really the other guys aren't important to the angst I'm about to hit y'all with.

right, so, obviously jack's wife back home is actually runner and he isn't pregnant. they do have two daughters together though and it breaks chuckler's heart to be away from them right now. we don't know a lot about tyrone's family but it sounds like he has 3 young boys (1 newborn in a new relationship).

I'm gonna switch that up a bit so that hoosier is leckie's partner back home - they're engaged and are planning on getting married once leckie returns home for good. at the moment, he's still enjoying his career despite missing his family. they have 3 boys together (a 6 month old, a 4 year old and a 7 year old).

leckie calls home as often as he can. one fateful night (if you've seen the movie you know what I mean) he's on video call with them. hoosier is smiling through the screen to him, balancing 3 wiggling boys on his lap as the 2 oldest shout about their day to their daddy. leckie smiles, talking excitedly to each of them. hoosier puts the screen on the ground, laying their youngest on the floor in front of the camera so leckie can talk to him - his heart warming at the sight of his baby boy trying to crawl closer to him. as they say goodbye, hoosier gives him a sad look and say "come home soon". leckie promises he will.

little did they know that all hell was about to break loose and leckie would rush straight into the chaos to rescue people he technically shouldn't be involved with (because it's not his job and yes he shuts his chief down - that scene is iconic) all because he can't bear to stand by and not help. he has the picture of hoosier and their boys tucked into his vest all night, close to his heart.

he doesn't make it. the mortar hits right by him and he's killed on impact.

chuckler is distraught, he'd just been talking to leckie, admitting he doesn't want to do this anymore because he wants to be home, and leckie had been saying how he thinks this will be his last tour. how he was going to settle down back home and raise his family with hoosier, get married and grow old like they'd always planned. now chuckler is zipping up leckie's body bag and calling runner, crying over the phone as he says "leckie didn't make it. he's not coming home."

imagine hoosier getting the call. finding out that leckie won't be coming back. won't be there to watch his sons grow old, won't be there to kiss him good-morning or comfort him during the night. won't be there to get married. he's going to miss out on all the plans they'd made together. and now hoosier has to do it alone...

and because this idea has completely ruined me I had to create a fix-it idea to cheer myself up.

so, if that's too depressing for you we can pretend leckie doesn't die in the explosion; he just loses a leg. they don't contact hoosier for a good while though and he's left back home terrified about what that means. he's expecting the absolute worst because he can see the news and the events of that night but where the hell is his fiancé?!

leckie arrives at the door on day, beaten and bruised and missing most of his left leg but he gives hoosier his signature crooked smile as he leans on his crutches and hoosier breaks, letting out a choked sob as he rushes forward and buries his face into leckie's neck not even ashamed of his tears. leckie is shaking, breathing hoosier in as he sinks his face into those soft blond locks he'd missed so much.

then his boys come running out of the house (minus the baby of course) shouting "daddy!" at the top of their lungs and practically flinging themselves at him. hoosier lets out a weak chuckle against leckie's neck, still clinging desperately to him with his palm pressed to his chest over his beating heart.

leckie eventually gets a prosthetic for his leg but he doesn't go back out on the field, he couldn't after seeing how shaken up hoosier had been. he pretends not to notice but he sees the way hoosier is watching over him and is always within arm's reach just in case. hoosier is forever grateful. instead, leckie's offered a job higher up working in the offices which he takes gladly because "someone with a braincell needs to be in charge".

he and hoosier get married a year later, chuckler and runner as their best men and their boys dressed in the finest suits. it's almost the happiest day of their lives (nothing will top the day leckie finally came home to his family).

Summer 2019′s Movies - My Top Ten Favourite Films (Part 1)

The Runners-Up:

20.  ANGEL HAS FALLEN – Gerard Butler’s arse-kicking secret service agent returns in this third (and, from the look of it, final) entry in the trilogy started with surprise hit Olympus Has Fallen and its London-set follow-up, and this time HE’S the prey after he’s framed as a would-be assassin of Morgan Freeman’s new US President.  It’s not as memorably meaty as its predecessors, but latest director Ric Roman Waugh (Snitch, Shot Caller) certainly has the action chops to pull off the necessary heavy lifting, and Butler’s great as ever.

19.  STUBER – summer 2019’s most irreverent guilty pleasure is a gleefully non-PC action comedy in which pathetically nerdy Uber driver Stu Prasad (The Big Sick’s Kumail Nanjiani) is effectively hijacked by dangerously myopic renegade LAPD cop Vic Manning (Dave Bautista), who’s looking to take down his “white whale”, murderous drug lord Oka Tedjo (The Raid’s Iko Uwais).  This is one of those hilariously foul-mouthed, gruesomely violent and unapologetically crude romps that does exactly what it says on the tin.

18.  MEN IN BLACK INTERNATIONAL – Friday director F. Gary Gray certainly has the required comedy pedigree to succeed Barry Sonnenfeld on this sort-of sequel/soft reboot, but while it’s certainly as consistently, inventively funny as its predecessors there’s still something missing here.  Thor: Ragnarok duo Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson have still got chemistry to burn, but they’re no substitute for Smith and Jones, although there’s definitely potential for a solid new series here if they can iron out the kinks.  It IS a moderate improvement on MIB 2, though.

17.  BOOKSMART – actress Olivia Wilde makes her directorial debut with this sharp-witted and enjoyably unpredictable coming-of-age comedy that follows straight-A high school graduates Molly (Lady Bird’s Beanie Feldstein) and Amy (Last Man Standing and Short Term 12’s Kaitlyn Dever) as they indulge in one crazy night out so they can experience the inappropriate partying chaos they always avoided to get those top grades.  Funny, fascinating and powerfully heartfelt, this is a guaranteed future gem of the genre.

16.  ROCKETMAN – hot off his patch-up directing gig finishing off Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer jumped ship, Dexter Fletcher tackles the life-story of another musical icon, Elton John, in this far more stylized but also thoroughly memorable “musical fantasy” interpretation of the rise/fall/rise-again of the man born Reginald Dwight.  Kingsman star Taron Egerton delivers the finest performance of his career so far, displaying an impressive lack of vanity as he crafts a warts-and-all portrayal of Elton, while Jamie Bell is equally excellent as his lifelong friend and writing partner Bernie Taupin.

15.  I AM MOTHER – the best of Netflix’ original movie summer offerings is this impressively original and edgy sci-fi thriller based around a killer concept – Mother is a robot (voiced with chillingly seductive duplicity by Rose Byrne) in a hi-tech bunker in the aftermath of some unknown apocalyptic cataclysm, the de-facto parent and sole companion of Daughter (The Lodge’s Clara Rugaard), seemingly the last human in the world, who’s never known anything of the outside, until an unexpected arrival threatens everything.

14.  DETECTIVE PIKACHU – Pokémon returns to the big screen with this brilliant live action feature that beautifully builds on the expansive source material while simultaneously repackaging it nice and fresh for a new generation. Ryan Reynolds is a fiendishly inspired choice to voice the eponymous investigator, who enjoys impressive chemistry with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s Justice Smith as the failed Pokémon trainer who is, inexplicably, the only human who can understand him.  You don’t need to be a fan to get this film, either – it’s well-thought-out enough that even newbies can get maximum entertainment out of it.

13.  MIDSOMMAR – Ari Aster, the disturbingly talented writer-director of acclaimed horror gem Hereditary, drops another mind-melting, skin-crawling slowburn treat of pure, unadulterated sustained dread and terrible expectation on an unsuspecting summer audience, although this one certainly proved far more (ahem) seasonal.  Florence Pugh (Lady MacBeth) and Jack Reynor (Strange Angel) are both excellent as the unsuspecting American couple whose visit to a remote Swedish festival exposes them to a twisted cult.

12.  THE STANDOFF AT SPARROW CREEK – debuting writer-director Henry Dunham proves he’s going to be one-to-watch in the future with this insidious little suspense thriller starring James Badge Dale as a former small town cop drawn into a tense internal investigation of the local militia he’s part of after it becomes clear one of its members is responsible for a terrorist attack that’s got the local police up in arms.  A perfectly-pitched lesson in slow-building tension crafted with consummate skill.

11. TOY STORY 4 – marking the feature directorial debut of long-serving Pixar animator/writer Josh Cooley, this is another gold standard entry in the studio’s flagship franchise that also marks a watershed moment for many of its beloved characters.  Woody and Buzz (Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, both on top form) are front and centre once again, but the biggest fun to be had here involves the new faces, particularly Keanu Reeves as hapless Canadian stunt-biker toy Duke Caboom.  This may not be QUITE as essential as what came before, but it’s still a series that continues to play very much to its strengths.

Taylor Kitsch will never do a Friday Night Lights movie – and please stop throwing out your cigarettes

In 2006, Taylor Kitsch auditioned for a new TV show called Friday Night Lights by downing two Lone Star beers on camera, giving the now infamous Texas Forever speech, and hoping for the best.

Eleven years on - and six years after the critically acclaimed cult TV series ended - Kitsch only has three words for those rumours about a film reboot.

‘Oh my God,’ he laughs.

‘Oh my God. I’m not doing it. I don’t think it will happen to be honest.

Kitsch has come a long way from those days of Riggins, tall boy beers and Texas but now, at aged 36, he’s finally getting into his groove, working on his directorial debut, a mix of TV and film work - and drive motorbikes across the American plains.

‘I drive motorcycles and I just went through Montana and Wyoming and it just eats me alive when people just throw cigarettes out [their window] when they’re done,’ he tells Metro.co.uk.

‘If you’re camping, everyone wants a fire - but you’ve got to listen to the fire bans! And yet you still see people doing this, and it kills you that people don’t understand the repercussions of that.’

Kitsch’s anger comes as we discuss his new drama Only the Brave, which immortalizes the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots who died as they battled the raging Yarnell Hill fire in Arizona on June 30, 2013; the greatest loss of firefighters in a wildfire in eight decades and the greatest loss of firefighters in the United States since the September 11 attacks.

The film is a devastating look at the Prescott Fire Departments hotshots - elite teams of 20 wildland firefighters who battle the most serious fires across the US - and their real life friendships, romances, and family lives of those same brave men.

Miles Teller portrays McDonough, the fire’s lone survivor, along with Josh Brolin, Jeff Bridges, James Badge Dale, and Kitsch.

The Yarnell fire was started by lightening, however wild fires have increased in numbers and severity in recent years, and although NASA admits that ‘climate change has increased fire risk in many regions’ there is also a large role played by humans in the risk.

‘I hope there’s a level of consciousness that will be raised with this film, that you can easily start something with just “that”,’ he adds.

‘It only happened three years ago so it felt really raw and we celebrated the third anniversary while we were shooting. You just want to do everything in your power to play these guys honestly.’

‘[This film] couldn’t be more relevant - my hometown a few years ago had a huge wildfire and even this year there’s 100 different wildfires around that area, my best friend had a cabin near there and they got evacuated this summer three times. They’re getting worse - an hour away there was a big one when we were shooting in Albuquerque and you could see the flames from on top of the mountains.’

The Canadian actor stars as Christopher MacKenzie, a 30-year-old California native who had always wanted to be a firefighter, like his father.

He gets emotional and clearly cares about this role when he talks about the prep involved, which included spending time with Mac’s father Mike - ‘we still text back and forth’ - and hanging out with McDonaugh.

‘I had the best source in McDonaugh, his roommate and the only survivor,’ he says.

‘So we would hang out and have a beer and he’d tell me these amazing stories of them going out and just filling in as much as you can - any time you want to get the real info on someone you go to their best friends first, so it was an awesome experience.’

‘You needed to get to know who these guys were, when they’re not in their yellows, who are they and what makes them tick,’ he says.

The cast and crew spent two weeks on a training course before the film began so they could get a feel for how the Hotshots worked - ‘it was a boys club!’ laughs Kitsch - hanging out with each other.

‘We really made the most of the two weeks before filming with the Hotshots, hanging out before and after set. Miles would put basketball games together and everyone would show up,’ he says.

Kitsch says 100% of his scenes were filmed on location, with the crew building a ‘three plus acre set with aluminum trees that they filled with huge propane tanks so they could turn it on and off.’

It sounds terrifying but it’s clear that for Kitsch nothing but getting his hands dirty and getting a real sense for who these men were would do for him.

In the 11 years that Kitsch has been working steadily, he’s appeared alongside names such as Brolin and Bridges, Hugh Jackman, Liam Neeson, and Mark Strong.

‘I think any actor will tell you longevity is the most flattering thing you can have,’ says Kitsch when asked about what he’s learning from these men, ‘and when you’re working with the Liam Neeson’s and Josh Brolin’s and the icon Jeff Bridges...one, they haven’t changed which I love.

‘Brolin is Brolin and what you see is what you get, they don’t turn it on, and I’d like to think I don’t either, and so I think that’s the biggest attribute.’

He admits that he was still green when he went to work on X-Men: Origins as Gambit but that working with Hugh Jackman made him realize that ‘work ethic is the most important thing you need to have if you want to stick around.’

That ethic is something Kitsch clearly thrives on as he hasn’t stopped working since.

Up next is his directorial debut, which he says will start shooting on November 27, and which is based on a short film he made in 2014 called Pieces.

‘It took me a couple more years to be happy with where the script is now,” he says, ‘we have 80% of the cast so when I’m done with press we’ll go into pre-production and take a swing.’

He’s got his good friend Peter Berg on board as producer and the two go way back; it was Berg who produced and is therefore responsible for Kitsch starring as Tim Riggins in the cult classic Friday Night Lights.

It’s a friendship that changed his life, and something Kitsch is fully aware of: ‘I wouldn’t be here without Pete.’

Hightown: Chicago Fire actress stars trailer for new police series

Starzplay, STARZ's premium streaming service, will bring the Hightown series to Brazil, featuring Chicago Fire actress

Fans of Chicago Fire may soon miss actress Monica Raymund, as she is arriving with her new series, Hightown. The series, which is an original attraction of the Star channel, will arrive in Brazil exclusively through Starzplay, Starz's premium stremium service.

Hightown it takes place on the iconic Cape Cod, and shows a woman's journey towards sobriety amid the unfolding of a murder investigation. Jackie Quiñones (Monica Raymund, “Chicago Fire”, “The Good Wife”), an agent for the National Marine Fisheries Service, sees his life change when he finds a body on the beach, a victim of the opium epidemic on Cape Cod. As a result of this trauma, Jackie takes the first steps towards becoming sober – while convincing herself that she needs to solve the murder.

However, in disagreement with Sergeant Ray Abruzzo (James Badge Dale, Only the Brave), an uncompromising but effective member of the Cape Cod Narcotics Unit, Jackie begins to circle. And she is not alone. Ray also went into a whirlwind, getting lost in the middle of the investigation. Everyone's lives, connected to this murderer, collide, reminding us how complicated – and deadly – our addictions can be.
