Looking for cheap apartments were really hard to find especially when you just recently moved into Las Vegas. For the past couple of weeks you have been staying in a motel browsing the internet in search of an affordable apartment . It was now night time, and even though you were tired and exhausted you still decided to keep doing your research. Low and behold you found yourself a perfect apartment with everything you needed in it,the only slight problem was that you’d be sharing it with a complete stranger….. you would deffo have to pad lock your room or sumn cause you can’t trust people nowadays. Being sneaky and shi you opted to find out who you were sharing your apartment with, so you searched up this app called “ roommate finder”.
Tumblr media
Typing up the apartment complex info that you’ll be moving in too, it was able to spot the resident you would be staying with. “ So his name is Jimmy huh ?” you smirked and kept on scrolling through the pictures he added unto the website . “ He’s so fineeee Lord help me” you took a deep breath as you could feel your cooter mama starting to get a bit wet, laughing at your own stupidity you closed your laptop and sat it aside on your bed side table and proceeded to go to bed since tomorrow would be an eventful day seeing as though ur moving in with the roomate.
THE NEXT DAY
“ Thank you so much ” you smiled to the man who helped carry your luggage up to your apartment door, “ No problem Miss ” the man called “Jerry” presuming from the name tag clipped onto his milky, white shirt, he smiled and then turned around to head back to his truck. Taking a deep breath you finally examine the exterior of the building infront of you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
( pick which one you like )
Smiling you pick up the keys from your back pocket and push it into the key hole , rotating it to the right , the door slightly opens signifying that you can go in. Upon entering, you see…..
୨୧ JIMMYS POV ୨୧
“ Ay! Yo Uce! pass me the salt real quick” I say and continue to stir the pot of spicy, authentic Jamaican soup I made. Just as Jey was about to pass me the salt , I hear the front door squeak open. Halting my movements I quickly turn around attempting to catch whoever was brave enough to enter this house , knowing damn well I got my strap on me . ( boy please 🙄) I make eye contact with this very pretty woman “ Damn she sexy asf” I thought in my head ;forgetting that a complete stranger was in my house, biting my lip I futher study her curvaceous figure . I could deffo tell she keeps up with her maintenance because her skin was flawless and glistened like gold in the sunlight , not a single imperfection to be found and her long pink bow decorated nail set , sat perfectly on her delicate fingers.
“ And who tf is you ?” my brother rudely interupts. Visbly taken back from his sudden outburst she meekly responds “ I’m Jimmy’s new roommate…” Poor thing , she must have to be confused and have the wrong Jimmy because from what I know of, the app that I have on my phone ( Roomate Finder ) hasn’t notified me of any new incomers.
୨୧ JEY’S POV ୨୧
I had to laugh because ain’t now way this bitch gon come up in this house and claim to be my brothers new roomate when he doesn’t even have one , she must be drunk or sumn, though now that I’m looking at her properly she does look kindaaa…..Sexy . “ Bitch, get tf out!, you ain’t nobody’s roommate “ I said harshly as I place down the salt on the kitchen counter and hastily make my way towards her shy form. Now you can say that I’m a bit of an asshole for shouting at her ( ya think? 🙄) but what would you do if a random stranger randomly came inside your family’s house ? the same thing right ? mhmm thought so .
୨୧ JIMMY’S POV ୨୧
quickly grabbing my brothers arm , I drag him back “ Chill out bruh , clearly this is a misunderstanding ” I said and sat my brother down on one of the high top chairs around the counter . Turning my attention back towards her I gesture her to come inside. “ Jimmy are you dumb ? she could be a murderer for all we know !” Jey whispered aggressively making sure to keep a close eye on her every movements . “ Relax, I got this” I say and leaned back onto the fridge . “ Sooo you said you were my roommate. Is that correct?” I questioned with a straight face.
୨୧ YOUR POV ୨୧
I sure as hell wasn’t expecting this. Why is this man acting slow ? and who tf is that other midget shouting at ? anyways lemme keep my cool. “ Yes I just recently moved into Las Vegas about four weeks ago, I found a perfect apartment , which is this one and saw that I would be staying with a roomate , so obviously I had to check that I’m not bout to be living with some mad person, No offence” I paused and made eye contact with the man supposedly named Jimmy . He chuckled a bit “Nah it’s fine, I understand ” Smiling at his response I continued my story. “ Being noisy and shi I browsed the internet until I came across this website called ‘Roomate Finder’ and typed up the name of the apartment I would be staying in, I saw most of your pictures pop up and information about you, You seemed kinda cool and not weird so i decided to take the risk and live here.” There expressions were nothing short of confusion, I wanted to laugh so bad.
“ Hollup, lemme see sumn real quick ”…..

Spiderpunks 2023
It's mega crossover fusion of Hobie leading a team of Spiderpunk Variants,my choices for the mantle giving based on their similarities to Hobie himself. This au was created with the purpose of Hobie appreciation outside of shipping!!
The other Spiderpunks are all black, either mixed or monoracial, regardless of canonicity but i did include mostly canon black characters!
The lineup:Hobart 'Hobie' Brown(Spiderpunk),Perseo 'Percy' Jackson(Punkero),Katara 'Don't call me Kat' Aipaluk(Seapunk),Stephanie 'Steph' Brown(Punkweaver),Ichigo Kurosaki(Punk Reaper),Marceline and Marshall Lee Abadeer(Spiderblud and Bludspider),Kat 'Don't call me Kit Kat' Elliot(Hellpunk),Katniss Everdeen(Punk 13),Sonic The Hedgehog(Chaos + Yes really,he's their Spiderham equivalent),Ekko Williams(Solpunk),Kipo Oak(Bitepunk),Nimona Boldheart(Arachna)and Rainbow Dash(Punkboom + Again yeah not joking,i love doing these)
Percy and the Abadeer Twins are 22,Katara and Nimona are 14,Stephanie and Ichigo are 19,Kat is 13,Sonic is 15,Ekko is 23,Kipo is 18 and Rainbow Dash is 20.Hobie's age is ambigious because I'm Tired Of The Discourse Around It So Let's Just Not
Spiderpunks is their shared mantle and also team name
It's Atsv!Hobie, not comics Hobie, based and functions as per the title as a 2023 starting sequel run to Atsv and is going to be a semi-long runner(above average comics team run length but not by a ridicilous amount)
They're completely seperate from Spider Society in affiliation, either completely or by the time of Issue 1 depending on the Spiderpunk in question
Percy is the Team Parent since he is in his books and the kids view him are as their big sibling figure and pseudo-parent and the other adults and him are found siblings except him and Stephanie who're just regular besties. There's no interteam ships except Kat x Nimona, which is instant best friends to lovers
The other ships are Percy/Lex(my s/i and her Gwen Stacy),Katara/Aang,Stephanie/Cass,Ichigo/Orihime,Marceline/Bonnibel and Marshall Lee/Gary,Katniss/Peeta,Ekko/Miel(another s/i of mine)and Rainbow Dash/Fluttershy
The whole team is trans and audhd along with being black-Percy is transfem bigender though, jic her any pronouns swag causes any confusion
Their theme song is Snickers or Reese's by Direct Hit!
Their meet up place is Sonic's Speed Cafe on Earth ♾️(emoji for accuracy)and it was created for him as a thanks for his good deeds and anarchistic actions in his civillian persona
Hobie and Stephanie joke about being siblings because of they're both jamaican and last named 'Brown'
Ekko and Percy bond over being afrosolarpunk specifically
And Hobie,Percy and Katara are the 'Unrestrained Seas' trio
Hobie,Percy,Katara,Ichigo and Stephanie are something of a Core Five because they were the first members of Spiderpunks and were around just them for a bit before the rest came along
Sonic and Rainbow Dash have matching star shaped goggles Percy made for them inspo'd by a certain bluehaired punk tgirl from an in-universe series she's a fan
Kipo bites as affection out of Mute genes and autism(therian vibes)and that's how she earned her nickname and Nimona also does because she's not a girl, she's a shark.I do this so nonblacks don't be stupid
The Abadeer Twins provide the most spontaneous music but they all get in on it.None to their level though
Katniss took the longest to warm up to everybody, only out of pure loneliness beforehand, not even having met Peeta yet at her debut
Wendell and Wild are honorary members in the same way Spidermutt and Mrs.O'Leary are
Percy has his blue laces like Hobie does.......And not for the aesthetic.Rest in Piss Poseidon Waters
Also Stephanie has pink laces and that IS for the aesthetic <3 Pastel afropunk feminist queen!!!
Instead of Watches, they have Badges provided by Rukia,Ichigo's Guy In The Chair and decorated to their tastes assigned by his ramblings of them by Orihime, his Gwen Stacy and MJ fusion
Katara's Canon Event is being punk /srs.Ffr just look at her in Atla itself, she was a 14 year old eco-terrorist and revolutionary who ended up marrying the guy who literally invented decolonization in their verse.Kataang is punk4punk excellence
Hobie is everybody's favorite and gets special treatment because he deserves and has earned it after what a brutal ass adultifying childhood with no friends he went through
Ekko plays a mean kalimba and can cook real good so he's assigned the Chill Dude™️ and chef of the Spiderpunks
They try to help out Kat and Nimona get together but subtly as to not make them feel forced to be together(Hobie loves teasing them though <333)
Lex de los Santos is an Anomaly as Earth 27's,Percy's dimension,Ghostspider but thankfully survives like our Gwen and Miel Williams is an MJ who's happily married to Ekko for a year now
They share and steal eachother's clothes and sleep in the same gigantic ass homemade bed when they can in their base:The Anarchy Web,a futuristic organic huge house they accidentally created in a spidey pocket dimension

LINFORD CHRISTIE’S BATTLE AGAINST RACIST SEXUALIZATION
Racism takes many forms, and for Britain’s most decorated athlete one tabloid headline changed his life forever. When sprinter Linford Christie won Olympic gold in 1992, The Sun newspaper called his manhood ‘Linford’s Lunchbox’. It was a racist stereotype that also included a picture of a Black man and a banana to depict his private body parts.
Over 30 years later, Linford talks about how the ‘derogatory’ portrayal affected his life, during a BBC documentary. It also includes interviews with veteran Sun reporter Colin Hart who defends the paper, saying the headline was never meant it to be racist, ‘it was just amusing.’
Racism should never be ‘brushed off' and it’s something Linford's suffered throughout his glittering career. After winning gold in 1986 European Championships the Jamaican-born star remembers wearing a Union Jack on the track, only to be told by a British official it’s not the done thing for a Black person to do. Even when he returned home and wore a British tracksuit with pride, he remembers being asked by a policeman: ‘What’s a n*gger like you doing wearing a British tracksuit?’
Linford Christie has won successive golds at the Olympic Games, World Championships, European Championships, and Commonwealth Games. He’s a champion whose success should’ve been celebrated without prejudice. As you’ll see from this clip, the psychological scars remain.
The documentary, called Linford, aired on July 25th.

Jamaica. Villa "White Orchid" by Ralph Lauren
Using the example of a mansion "White Orchid" can be used to analyze the British colonial style with encyclopedic precision. It has Asian, African, and local Jamaican accents. All these details contribute to the fact that an exotic atmosphere lives in the house all year round and an irresistible thirst for travel can be detected.

The Drums of Libration!!!!
Miles happily skips to his boyfriend holding his hands, "Hobie baby! You excited for our next tattoo?"
"Yeah, Sunflower! It'll be our first matching tattoos." Hobie grins happily at their tattoos on the piece of paper Miles drew. "Where you gonna get this one?"
"Oh my shoulder, here." Miles pointed at his right shoulder at the side. "What about you?"
"I think on my chest, I have space here." He place a finger in between his pecks. The two went to one popular tattoo shop in Brooklyn where the tattoo artist is known for their Anime and cartoons designs and Miles really wanted one of his work on him.
When they got to the Tattoo Shop, they saw the very decorative graffiti style with cartoons, anime, and other colorful vivid images. When they went inside the shop, Miles happily went to the front desk to tell them about their appointment for their tattoos.
Hobie stood seeing a mix of different types of people sitting and waiting for their own appointment. One girl with bright blue hair and neon outfits, another in a girly pink dress that looks like a maid outfit and she wore a pink wig. Then a man with a basic fit of shirt and sweats. Another Goth, Punker, and so on. Hobie nodded in approval of this place seeing how welcoming it is.
"Alright, who's next?" The tattoo artist came out wearing a black tank with a Jamaican flag on it, having medium locks hairstyle and piercings on his ears and one on his nose. A tall dark skinned male with tight grey jeans and boots, then grins as he spotted Miles, "Aye, my brother! What's good, man?"
"Hey, Trey! How you been, man!" Miles went over to hug him being happy to see him.
Trey happily picks him up showing him big love with his big hugs, "MMM! Man, haven't gotten the Morales hug in a while." He chuckles. Hobie frowns at this, he knew his boyfriend knows the tattoo artist, but he didn't expect them to be so chummy with one another. "Where have you been? You missed last Anime-Con!"
"Hahaha, been super busy man." Miles gave a sheepish smile as he got down from the hug, "This upcoming one I promise I'll be there with Ganke!" Trey was getting close into Miles' personal space like enough that it look like they were more than something.
The punker clears his throat, "Ahem," Then got between his Sunflower and the tattoo artist. Trey had to take a step back noticing the tall Punker wrapping his arms around Miles' waist being protective and sneering at him like you-be-warned.
"Oh this is my boyfriend, Hobie! Remember I told you about him!"
"Ohh, so this is the British boi!" Trey chuckles in amusement, "Do you prefer tea and crumpets in Britain, ole chap?" Using a fake British accent, being a bit funny and amused. "Pardon. Pardon. I just joke."
"Hah, I prefer a good ale and fish n' chips with mi Sunflower. Yuh pretty chatty chatty, eh?" Hobie rested his chin on his Sunflower's nape of his shoulder.
Trey took in Hobie's faded Jamaican accent then nodded with a grin, "Aye, man. I'm only picking fun, besides Miles is a good friend of mine."
"Bae, don't be so mean. Trey is a fun guy. I thought you guys would click." Miles happily said.
For Hobie, it takes a while for him to be friends with people especially when he can tell someone eyes on his beloved Sunflower. He knows that look Trey is giving toward Miles, it's almost too flirty like a crush. Nope, he did not like him. Not one bit. "Hahaha, looks like I piss him off, lil Sun." Trey chuckles.
"Sun?" Hobie asked out loud.
Miles giggles, "It's a nickname Trey gave me. No biggie."
"No biggie? The Punker asked being a bit jealous at the way Trey laughs along with Miles.
"Yeah, he calls me, Ace!" He grins widely.
Hobie pouted at the two laughing and talking. "So, you two got an appointment? Sweet, you're with me and Monica?" Trey asked the couple.
"Yeah, we want this tattoo!" Miles took his drawing to show his friend, "Hehehe."
"Ohh yes!" Trey's golden eyes gleams with joy, "I didn't know your boi like One Piece!"
"He became a fan after years of forcing him to watch it!" The Black Latino smiles having to snuggle his punker, "Right, bae?"
"I rarely watch cartoons on the telly." The Punker shrugs.
Trey patted on Hobie's back with a thumbs up, "You have my approval, man!" The Punker's eyes bulge out when he saw Trey having the Sun Pirate tattoo on the back of his neck, "Yes sir! Yes, sir! Yes, sir! My brother heard the drums of libration! Welcome to the Sun Pirate Gang-GANG, man!" He happily grab Hobie's shoulders shaking him.
Miles happily laughs feeling like this was deja vu except it's his boyfriend experiencing this. "We love the story of the Sun Pirates and thought to get one together!!"
"Nice! Nice! Come on, then! I'll be happy to tattoo this!" Trey put one arm around Hobie's neck having to drag him into the back, while Miles follows. "Monica! Work with Miles, okay?"
"OKay, Trey." A dark skinned woman dressed in Goth clothing nodded. "Hey, Miles. What do you want?"
While Hobie went with Trey and his Sunflower went with the other tattoo artist, Miles happily talk with Monica. It's weird to see how quiet the punker got with Trey. Maybe it was his jealousy.
"So, how long you and Miles been together?" The tattoo artist saw where Hobie want's his tattoo.
"Oh man, like seven years?"
"Damn, that's fucking crazy? How old are you?" Trey began preparing Hobie's chest by shaving the hairs off.
Hobie grins, "Twenty three."
"A year older, huh? Not bad. Not bad, man." He said.
"How long you knew Miles?"
"Oh I met him through Ganks through social media, he saw one of my tattoos and booked it. Then we got together to go to Anime-con. That was like three years ago?" He asked trying to remember.
"Oh really? I haven't heard of you. Not to sound like an ass."
"Eh, I come and go. I travel a lot." Trey pointed at his shirt, "I went to Jamaica for three months to visit my dad's side of the family not too long ago."
"Oh really? What's your last name?"
"Rollins, well Jason Rollins. You can say the British has got my fam, too." Trey chuckles lowly.
Hobie laughs the same, "Yuh, bunch of wankers."
Trey laughs as he got ready to put the paper with some blue ink stain to put on Hobie's chest. "Yeah, no good comes from colonization. That's why we are soldiers of Libration! We believe in Joyboy!" He proud should off his One Piece pirate flag on his left arm being proud.
"We are Warriors of Libration." Hobie grins widely.
After the tattoo, Miles happily went to show his shoulder off. "Thanks Monica. It came out fire! Did you like yours, baby?" He asked his punker having to wrap his arms around his punker's waist and smiles.
"Yeah, luv. it came out fucking Ace." Hobie smiles to give a kiss at his partner.
Trey grins widely, "I told you we be friends, Miles."
"Hahaha, I knew you guys would get along. Once you passed my bae's jealousy attitude." Miles giggles as he takes out his wallet to be ready to pay the tattoos.
"Bollicks. I wasn't jealous." Hobie scoffs.
Trey snickers while Miles gave him a look, "Oh yeah?" He was about to get close to Miles until Hobie stops him.
"Aye, man. That's my Sunflower." He hugs his boyfriend being protective again.
"Bae! You're too funny." Miles gives kisses on his punker's cheek, "Trey, be careful. My boo doesn't play with me being involved.
"Noted." Trey chuckles in amusement.
Hobie huffs as he kept being protective of his darling.

Jamaica became independent from the United Kingdom on August 6, 1962.
Jamaica Independence Day
Jamaica Independence Day is celebrated on August 6 annually. This day became a national celebration in 1962 when Jamaica became independent with full dominion status in the Commonwealth, under a constitution that retained the British monarch as head of state. The first elected Prime Minister was Alexander Bustamante.
Jamaica’s independence meant that Britain no longer controlled the country’s affairs. Thus, these became primarily managed by the new Prime Minister and his locally elected cabinet. Furthermore, Jamaica’s independence also meant that they had to form a constitution, symbols, emblems, army, currency, and passports.
History of Jamaica Independence Day
Jamaica was one of the first colonies in the so-called ‘new world.’ Jamaica became a Spanish colony in 1509. In May 1655, the British took over the island during the Anglo-Spanish War. In the 1950s, the British Empire broke up; thus, Jamaica took advantage of the situation to make several amendments to its constitution to allow greater self-government and a Prime Minister. In 1958, Jamaica joined the West Indies Federation — a political union of various Caribbean islands that were also colonies of the United Kingdom.
By September 1961, Jamaicans had become dissatisfied with the Federation. The slow-paced move to independence led to a referendum in Jamaica where 54% of Jamaicans voted to leave the Federation. In 1962, the ‘Jamaica Labour Party,’ under the leadership of Bustamante, won the elections, which resulted in the passing of the Jamaica Independence Act by the United Kingdom Parliament on July 19, 1962. On August 6, 1962, the British granted them independence, and the Jamaican flag flew for the first time.
Bustamante became Jamaica’s first Prime Minister, with Jamaica joining the Commonwealth of Nations. The main highlight of Jamaica Independence Day is the ‘Jamaica Independence Festival,’ which showcases a grand parade, traditional music, the World Reggae Dance Final, and other events.
Jamaica Independence Day timeline
1494 Christopher Columbus Sights Jamaica
Christopher Columbus calls it Santiago; however, the original indigenous name, ‘Jamaica or Xaymaca,’ persisted.
1509 Jamaica Becomes a Spanish Colony
Jamaica is one of the first colonies in the so-called ‘new world.’
1655 Jamaica Becomes An English Colony
The island is taken over by the British during the Anglo-Spanish War.
1962 Jamaica Becomes Independent
The Jamaican flag is flying for the first time on August 6.
Jamaica Independence Day FAQs
Does Jamaica have two flags?
No. Jamaica only has one flag, which is unique worldwide as the only country whose flag does not contain the colors red, white, or blue!
How do Jamaicans say hello?
‘Wah Gwaan,’ the most well-known Jamaican greeting, means ‘hello.’ Former US President Barack Obama used it during his inaugural visit to Jamaica.
How do you respond to Wah Gwaan?
‘Mi Deh Yah, Yuh Know,’ means ‘Everything is okay’ or ‘I’m doing well.’ It is the most common response to ‘Wah Gwaan.’
How to Observe Jamaica Independence Day
Attend a celebration
Plan a party
Celebrate the whole weekend
The main celebration takes place at the National Arena in Independence Park in the evening. On Independence Day, Jamaicans take part in grand street parades, wearing clothing colored like the Jamaican flag and putting on all manner of cultural displays.
If you are not chanced to attend a Jamaican party, you can organize one with friends. Be sure to decorate the place with Jamaican flags and play reggae music all night.
In reality, the Jamaican Independence Festival does not only last a day; it’s a week of celebrations leading up to Independence Day. These are seven days of celebration for a general population that knows how to party.
5 Facts About Jamaican Culture
Language
Cuisine
Clothing
Religion
People and traditions
Although English is Jamaica’s official language, the local dialect combines elements of other languages — from Spanish, African, and Irish dialects to British and American phrases.
Jamaican cuisine focuses on Caribbean spices, which pack a punch.
Traditional Jamaican clothes are calico in nature whereby women wear bright handmade dresses and complete their outfits with a headscarf that wraps up the wearer’s hair.
Jamaica is a Christian nation and the majority of the locals are highly religious and attend church on Sundays with the whole family.
Jamaicans have many traditions, and one includes the local practice of burying the umbilical cords of newborns beneath trees with the belief that this gives the baby a permanent connection to its homeland.
Why Jamaica Independence Day is Important
It’s an opportunity to remember the importance of freedom
It’s a time to party
It’s an opportunity to honor those who fought for independence
Jamaica gained its freedom for self-governance after more than 300 hundred years of British colonial rule. However, the road to independence was long and hard.
Jamaicans celebrate this day by partying all weekend long. Thus, this could be an opportunity to have fun with your family and friends.
This day can also be an opportunity to honor those who fought for Jamaica’s independence. Many people must have fought to achieve this and today is the day to honor them.

May Writing Challenge - Day 2
Tumblr media
By @creativepromptsforwriting.
Here are today's 200 words (205):
"Looking good as always, Auntie," I said, admiring the colourful patterns of her dress. Even the colours are loud in the Kamani house. Our flat is the definition of “simple” -  seldom decorated with any nods to our Jamaican heritage beyond a couple of wall hangings. We’re not that big on decoration. Hope and her family are not like that at all… everywhere you look, you can see the deep pride they have in their Kenyan roots. Elaborate woven baskets, vibrant artwork, and ornately carved masks adorned the entryway - a constant reminder that you were walking into an African home. It comes down even to the clothes they choose to wear.
I mean, it’s cool. Really cool. Inspiring, too. To look at a person and see their story. To immediately know who they are, what they are about, where they are from and what they are a part of. To have that level of pride in that part of yourself. Makes me wish that we did that more in our house.
"Thank you, darling," she says, giving me a gentle kiss on the cheek. "You really know how to make an old woman feel special."
"Oh, stop it,” I laughed. “You're not old, Auntie. You're classic."

Advent Day V ~ It's Beginning to Look @corinnebaileyrp
With the lights dimmed and the doors locked anyone with half a brain would notice that the shop is closed but it doesn't stop Beth from gently tapping on the glass. The night is cold but she stamps her booted feet and seems momentarily delighted by the dampness in the air. Maybe in the next couple of days there will be snow. Or at the very least rain. Which on glass might turn into the very same lacy patterns she hopes to flock onto the insides of Cory's windows. At her feet is a suitcase roughly her same size that has stencils she's made, white paint with an assortment of pigment dyes in both glitter and non glitter, making tape, newspapers, everything she could think of to bring with her. Even tiny brushes and washable wall-crayons. Tonight is just the two of them and they're going to decorate the shop for the holidays. Cory lets her in with that glowing smile of hers and Beth can't help but throw her arms around her friend's neck with a girlish glee and kisses her cheek. Beth feels a little like ice but she'll live. The shop itself is warm and the smell of proofing bread and the day's pastries wafts toward her on a cloud of steam from a freshly brewing pot of coffee for them. Can Beth smell the difference between beans? Absolutely. Is Cory making them a pot of Jamaican Blue Mountain as a splurge, absolutely yes. And the little nurse is truly grateful. "Dat smell so sexy, I might change religion," she murmurs almost under her breath and is rewarded by the laugh Cory bestows on her. They both know Andy would have a lot to unpack with that statement and they spend a few moments mocking the missing man. They make quick work of covering the tables and floors so any mess makes for easy recycling. Cory has some ornaments and ribbons to make wreaths. And a gorgeously curated instrumental playlist. She tells Beth she's glad for the company, thanks her for the help and Beth nods. Cory knows she could just as easily do this with her fantastic employees but this is more personal. Beth knows she's an artist who doesn't share her work with many. Sometimes she wonders if Andy knows about Cory's sketchbooks. No real fault of his if he doesn't. Just makes the secret shared all that much more special in Beth's mind.
Cory works on the first wreath while Beth paints blue-white snow-drifts on the first window. "It was Christmas Eve, Babe In the drunk tank An old man said to me, won't see another one And then he sang a song…" Beth belts away, though she isn't half the musician that her brother is, but she stops and turns and raises a brow when Cory picks up where she left off. They take turns, until the last verse and suddenly both women are arm in arm, serenading the shop. "...The boys of the NYPD choir Still singing Galway Bay And the bells are ringing out For Christmas day."

Building a Legacy of Love: Exploring Memories through Objects
Tumblr media
Ann Marie is soaking dried fruits for Jamaican Christmas Rum Cakes, Cooking Up Community, 2023
The art of preserving memories has taken on a poignant significance in our Cooking Up Community workshops, under the Healthy Arts for Seniors program at Scarborough Arts. In these workshops, participants have been courageously delving into the emotional process of documenting objects that once belonged to their departed family members. These tangible artifacts, infused with love, tradition, and sentiment, serve as a way to keep the spirit, legacy, and memory of their loved ones alive. This endeavour invites us to embrace grief, loss, and sadness as integral parts of our human experience and reminds us that, through love, we can continue to honour and celebrate the lives of those who are no longer with us in physical form.
Ann Marie, a regular attendee in our workshop programs, shared a touching story through her photographs. One of the objects she chose to document was a jar filled with dried fruits soaked in port wine and Jamaican Rum. This jar represents a treasured family tradition - the preparation of Jamaican Christmas Rum cakes. Ann Marie and her sisters begin soaking the fruits during the summer months, following a timeless family recipe. When Christmas arrives, they come together in their kitchens to bake these delectable cakes for their family gatherings. These traditions, passed down through generations, are invaluable. By recording and archiving these recipes and moments, Ann Marie is ensuring that the younger generations in her family will carry on their culinary legacy and connect with their loved ones.

Wendy's father made these shoes by hand, and later mended them. He painted the stone in an art class with the Alzheimer's Society, Cooking Up Community, 2023
Wendy's photographs showcase her father's belongings, offering a poignant glimpse into the life of a generation that was deeply resourceful and self-sufficient. Among the objects is a pair of wooden slippers that her father cleverly crafted and mended himself. Wendy also shared a stone that her father painted during art classes with the Alzheimer's Society. These objects reflect an era when recycling, repurposing, and reusing were a way of life, long before there was even language for these Earth saving acts.

Wendy was surprised to find batteries and cardboard in an old bike light, igniting a wonderful, warm and loving memory of her father's concern for her, Cooking Up Community, 2023
One photograph that touched everyone deeply was a simple light that Wendy had intended for night bike riding. When she checked the batteries, she discovered that her father had placed not just batteries but also some cardboard inside the light to fit the batteries, to ensure she had light on her bike. This thoughtful gesture embodies her father's love and concern for her, showing us that the legacy of love transcends even the physical world.

Subverting function, from frame to table by Ebru, Cooking Up Community, 2023
Ebru shared a photograph of a floral plate, subverting the object's ceremonial purpose. The plate was originally gifted to her father-in-law in 1989 as a decorative item to hang on the wall. While the family had contemplated giving it away, Ebru recognized its beauty and took it into her own home. She removed it from the frame and began using it functionally to serve food. In her photograph, she added a candle, creating a poetic gesture to remind us of the ephemerality and fleeting nature of life. Even when our loved ones depart, they leave us with light and warmth in the form of cherished memories.
Through the Cooking Up Community workshops under the Healthy Arts for Seniors program at Scarborough Arts, participants have embarked on a beautiful journey of remembrance these past two weeks. The documented objects, laden with memories and stories, serve as bridges between generations and offer a comforting way to navigate the complexities of grief and loss. By sharing these stories, we not only honour our loved ones but also inspire others to embrace the legacy of love and traditions they have left behind. In this space of shared memories, we find solace, connection, and the everlasting warmth of the love we hold in our hearts.

Adult Kass
Tumblr media
-Here she would be between 23 and 25 years old
-she is married
-She is a pro hero and at the same time she works in a manga publisher (as an assistant to a famous mangaka at that time, due to her experience in drawing and the speed in which she can finish the inking and details, so She is the only assistant in terms of drawing and coloring, she earns double for that)
-Even she doesn't have children, she will have them from the age of 30
-wear more casual clothes now instead of punk style, for comfort.
-in the ranking of heroes she is at number 10, she can aspire to more, but she doesn't want to dedicate full time to being a hero.
-The most serious couple fight against Bakugo that she has had was to decide if the decoration of the house would be minimalist (Bakugo) or dopamine decor (Kass), in the end they decided that it would be both somehow.
to avoid another fire because Kass is easily distracted, Bakugo takes care of the cooking, Kass cleans the kitchen and sets the table
-She likes Jamaican wine and strawberry wine
Dedicates herself to watching novelas at 5 pm with Ann and sometimes also with Kirishima (at that time married to Ann) while having tea (English habit and also Highlander Ecuadorian )
Ann and Kirishima are their neighbors by coincidence (Bakugo didn't want to tell anyone where he was going to move with Kass, so it was a surprise that they were their neighbors, Kass is happy, but Bakugo shits on his dead because he just wanted to privacy)
developing Latin mom instincts and attitude

Wales Bonner FW23 Menswear
From Sarah Mower's review for Vogue
Her abiding mission to elevate “Black male style; a very refined approach to masculinity” took on the Parisian sojourns of the American writer and intellectual giant James Baldwin, the fabulously wealthy young Maharaja and Maharani of Indore, and fanned out to admire the showgirl, style-maker and activist Josephine Baker. By immersing herself in their worlds, she said she found herself transported, not so much by the idea of literal references of costume as by the uplifting effect of the cultural atmosphere. “Thinking about what Paris as a place gave them license to do and express. This idea of freedom of self-expression, to define yourself.” Paris, she speculated, “may create space to have more license to be expressive.”
The award-winning jazz trumpeter Herman Mehari stood in the middle of the apartment and played as a procession of sophisticated “Black flanuers” threaded its way through the rooms. First out was a strikingly precise black tailored coat with half its upturned collar in white. On its breast was pinned a brooch—one of several composites of baroque pearl and Ghanaian bead jewelry that studded the show with a sense of the ceremonial.
Checking back on Wales Bonner’s sources, that riveting entrance was clearly an echo of a famous 1929 high Deco-period portrait of the Maharaja in black tie evening dress, flashing a white-lined cape.
She also knows how to elevate the ordinary, or the generic, to give it her own stamp of cachet. Cowrie-shell decoration has been in her repertoire from the very first; now she deployed it as lines of embroidery on an oversized ecru peacoat, white on white.
Her casual wear has her intellectualism coded into it too. When you’re wearing a Wales Bonner collegiate jacket with the words Sorbonne 56 sewn onto it, you’re referring to the First Congress of Black Artists and Writers in Paris, to which James Baldwin was a delegate. When sporty, there are also genuine cultural connections. Wales Bonner’s designs for the new adidas soccer kit for the Jamaican team was showcased.
As for the womenswear, well, this season Wales Bonner was rather obviously talking as much about herself as she was the inspirational Josephine Baker and Maharani of Indore. When the marled-knit drop-waist flapper dress and zig-zag knitted fluted skirt and tank came out, more than a few of us in the audience were giving each other side-long glances. In the chorus of praise that broke as the crowd filed out, people were exclaiming, “Didn’t they look exactly like Grace herself!" There’s no criticism in that. Because staying true to who she is as a designer, and building steadily on her own identity even while stepping in to play at a higher level in Paris is surely the name of the Wales Bonner longevity game.
