Art speaks when words are unable to explain. This phrase is so true for me. My paintings reflect my inner most thoughts and feelings, particularly my abstract paintings. Raw emotion is easier for me to release in visual form than anything. I do like to write out my feelings too, but I rarely share them. There’s something about burning candles that’s romantic and mysterious to me. Same goes for incense, I love it. I have a healthy respect for fire, so I am careful while burning candles but I do enjoy having them adding ambiance to my space, including outside. I have a small candelabra outside in Studio Gardens that holds just three candles. But the way they flicker and sway in response to a gentle breeze is much like a response to the seductive touch of a lover, or at least in my over active imagination it is. Mesmerizing and so alluring just begging me to paint it. Painting fire was elusive and it took a few tries to get this how I wanted it, but as of now I’m happy with it. The silvery metal curves of the candelabra are a nice contrast to the fire element. Hot and cold. Once again, I’m drawn to the curves of this piece reminding me of the female form. I’ve signed this painting signaling to myself it’s time to stop. Hi! This is me, Jaime. This photo was taken yesterday. I’m the artist behind the paintings you see here. I’m a professional artist with my art in a couple different countries, have had a few galleries and my art resides in many homes across the country. I have a mostly daily studio practice. When I’m not painting, I work on the backend of my art business. Today is the #21daysinmyartworld selfie challenge. I’m not big on selfie’s, I usually like to show the world around me and how I see it. I absolutely love being an artist and feel incredibly fortunate to be able to create beautiful things that I can share with the world. I feel so lucky to be in this age of technology where I can share my art so easily and talk with others across the world as easily as picking up my phone. There are many responsibilities an artist has in their lifetime, such as providing witness to and recording joy, truth, hurt, love, anger and beauty by documenting life during our time on this planet for future generations. Our art will outlive us, just as artists from the past. I feel bringing mindfulness to the mystery and magic of life might be mine. Showing others magic in everyday life whether through my art or sharing my gardens and natural world around me. Life really is amazing and charming if you just slow down to see it in the tiniest of things. How truly fortunate we are to be alive and able to witness it and share life with each other as well as all living things. I attempt to give vision to others to see the magic I see and feel everyday. My art books. That’s today’s prompt for the #21daysinmyartworld I don’t really have a lot I don’t feel, a few cool technique types and some more geared at art philosophy. I can’t say there’s a favorite and I haven’t bought one in a long time. These are not quite all of them. But I will tell you of a book I read as a young girl that has stuck with me till this day. It was probably as far back as 7th or 8th grade and it must’ve been the early 1980’s. I discovered a book by Robin McKinley about the re-telling of Beauty and the Beast, my favorite fairytale. It was simply called “Beauty”. It was on the Omar reading list, I remember that. I can recall looking at the cover and thinking of how beautiful it was. But inside... inside was magic. So much more beautiful than the cover. The way she was able to describe the surroundings set my artist mind into overdrive. I think I may have read it three or four times getting even more out of it with each read. It was rich with visuals for my brain and creativity, using only words. I can still remember the imagery that filled my head as I read. I still have that paperback somewhere because hello... Hoarder. I think I’ll try and find it to read again.
