Y'all seriously need to read this comic or watch this movie.
The comic was originally illustrated by Jaime Hewlett (who does all of the art for Gorillaz) and came out in the early 90's.
The movie was made in 1995, and stats Lori Petty, pre-discovered Naomi Watts, and Ice T. It might be a B-list movie, but it fucking rocks.
Tbh, this stuff changed me, and I would be the hot badass bitch I am today if not for Tank Girl.
DEFINITELY GIVE IT A TRY!!!

Idk if I’m being weird but I am not a huge fan of the term CBC (“character based character”), at least because I’ve seen enough people use it to refer to a character that isn’t a carbon copy of the inspiration.
Like… it’s NORMAL to be inspired by your favorite media and incorporate little aspects into your art and designs. Using two colors of a palette from your inspiration to make a completely new character doesn’t make them a Dekudog.
It’s like if I made an OC and said they were a CBC based on 2D from Gorillaz except the only thing they had in common was having shaggy blue hair. Jaime Hewlett doesn’t own the design concept of shaggy blue hair, anyone can have that in their design. Like, that wouldn’t be a proper CBC in my book because they only have one superficial trait in common while everything is completely different on both ends.
Do people just not understand how to incorporate inspiration in their work? Or what the difference between inspiration and flat out stealing is?

The Mad Master Maxwell McGillicuty is a character I created roughly a decade ago. Heavily inspired by Jaime Hewlett of Tank Girl and Gorillaz fame.

Project: Movement.
Week 7. Thursday, 22/02/24
Animation
Thursday was spent gathering research and references and later looking at back grounds design and character models/ design.
Secondary Research;
I went on Pinterest looking at references of people cutting their hair, hair piling up in the sink, and then at dingey bathrooms to try to get some ideas of how I wanted my own bathroom to look. I also came across a few distorted pictures of people looking at their reflections. I also looked at a few pictures of Cousin It from The Adam's Family because it reminded me of how I looked with long hair.
Since my ideal environment for this piece is a dirty gig bathroom, so I thought the best place to look was the Kong studio bathrooms, the gorillas fictional studio, and the bathrooms I would never use unless I had a bottle of bleach with me in fear of an std. The first 4 images are of their first studio, and images are from when fans could interact with a 3d version of the studio on their website.
Next image is a story board for the do ya thing music video , I included it because I love the way Jaime Hewlett story boards and his use of colour to highlight key items in the space, and also due to the bathroom featured in it. I won't be using it as a reference as the bathroom there is too domestic for my liking. The bathroom with Murdoc is from the Saturn Barz music video, which was also interactive, and just look at it, it's foul. It's dark, dirty, and disgusting. Exactly what I'm looking for.
Primary researches:
After doing my secondary research I went to the college bathrooms to take reference photos, originally went down to only get a picture of the space with the ceiling visible to understand the perspective of the room .
I then decided to take some reference photos of myself positioned in the bathroom from different anyless to understand how to proportion & position my character. Luckily the bathroom was empty for most of the time I was taking photos, I pretended to wash my hands when someone came in.
Lastly, I went to the bathroom on the first floor for obvious reasons, its basically falling apart. The paint is falling off the wall, there's writing on the walls, there's no mirrors and the walls are stained. I would like to take some of these elements and put them into my own backgrounds
Design:
Background;
Once I was done with my research I went bac to the computer lab and started drawing out quick designs to finally get started on the animation.
My research came in handy when figuring out the perspective in these bathrooms and the vanishing points, this made redrawing these spaces much easier. I ended up tracing over some of my photos to further simplify their designs and finding fundamental shapes.. I think I'll use the down stairs bathroom as a foundation for the background in my animation.
Character;
To begin I did a quick rough turnaround sheet of my character model and looked back at my character design study of Jamie Hewlett's art work. Once that was done I quicky went through different outfits, and hair styles through the process of elimination and tiny thumbnails, while trying to keep in mind what a band groupie would wear on tour. While going through designs I had the idea of having the Mr. bones Gorillaz mascot on the top with a upside down smile, which would turn up wards after the protagonist cuts their hair. I drew out and coloured my final design with crayons.

Am I just crazy or is that literally the most jaime Hewlett drawing ever, I am so confused did tucker draw that?? Is that just his artstyle?? Does he somehow know jaime?? Because that's how jaime draws nipples I would know I've been traumatized by his depictions of nipples oh so many times

Spooky/Monster/Horror Themed Music Videos
EEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeey
Another day another chance for me to showcase/talk about some animations I really like.
Today I wanna feature some animated music videos. There’s quite a few based on spoopy stuff and even more which are indirect short horror movies. So strap in.
RATINGS:
G - Kid Friendly. Can watch with just about anybody.
PG - Teen stuff: cursing, naughtiness, high octane nightmare fuel for kids, the usual!
M - Graphic violence and gore. Disturbing themes may or may not be included.
NSFW - Nudity or Sexual content. No links, just to be safe.
NOTE: If you’re wondering where Mystery Skulls/The Night is, it’s here.
------
“The Nightmare” by Love Automatic animated by Lee Hardcastle (M)
Lee Hardcastle of Chainsaw Maid-fame gives a great techno song an energetic and creepy music video straight out of 80s schlock horror. Think ‘Evil Dead’ but gone horribly wrong...just to give you an idea.
“Funeral March for a Marionette” by Charles Gounod animated by COFA Productions (G)
A classic little diddy about the death of a toy is put to visuals with a touch of Burtonesque/Svanmajeresque visuals courtusy of animator Eric Fonseca.
“American Witch” by Rob Zombie animated by David Hartman (NSFW)
The most metal-testosterone-headbang-happy video straight out rock and roll hell, complete with sexy witches and out-of-season Halloween feels!
“Saturn Barz” by Gorillaz directed by Jaime Hewlett (PG)
The classic Gorillaz crew (before Murdoc was replaced by Ace from the Powerpuff Girls) explore a haunted house in all it’s iced-out rhythm...also space...I think.
“The Ghost of Stephen Foster” by Squirrel Nut Zippers directed by Raymond Persi and Mathew Natsuk (PG)
The jaunty haunted “Hotel Paradise” wreaks havoc on a vacationing young couple in this send-up to classic Fleischer cartoons.
“MEOW” by Cyriak ft. illustrations by Sarah Brown (M)
A zombie apocalypse at it’s most brutal is done with cute Sanriyo-style chibi cats, courtesy of artist Kookizu. There is nothing wrong with this premise, absolutely not.
“Fantasy” by DyE animated by Tyger Sushi/Excuse my French (NSFW)
An infamous (and pretty risque video for something still being allowed on youtube might I say) music vid that starts as a coming-of-age-teen drama before evolving into a Lovecraftian horror show.
“The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by Primus animated by Mike Johnson (G)
After Charlie Daniels decided he’s okay with being a jerk, best listen to his number one hit elsewhere - and what better place to start than Primus in a sweet little stop-motion send off?
“Night on Bald Mountain” by Modest Mussorgsky from Fantasia (G)
Gotta include the classic Bald Mountain sequence from the mother of all music videos - Disney’s Fantasia. I don’t think anyone can escape the visuals this version of Night on Bald Mountain has cemented in so many people’s minds.
“Golem” by The Maladies animated by Joy + Noelle (PG)
A remembrance of simpler, Hot Topic fueled times, an animated version of The Maladies must escape a crazy facility performing some kind of experiment on them.
“Turn the Lights Off” by Tally Hall directed by Drew Mokris (G)
An upbeat and happy tune about being haunted by inner fear and evil is given the perfect visuals to illustrate it as such. Who doesn’t love a peppy nightmare of color interrupting your daily activities?
“Hold Me” by Delta Heavy directed by Kristoff Strom (PG)
A morbid piece of dark humor about a girl trying to bring her beloved dead cat back from the dead using what I think are dark wubs.
“Molten Light” by Chad VanGaalen (NSFW)
By far the most unsettling music video (in my opinion anyway), this folk-nightmare is sung and directed by Chad VanGaalan and features art that somehow looks vintage and contemporary at the same time.
----
Enjoy!

Poor Ace, he is gonna be really disappointed when the prostitutes arrive(?
I don’t know why I keep doing this shitty things instead of doing good quality fanart.
It’s 4 am and this was funnier in my head.
Extra points for you if you recognize the brand of the juice <3

I was originally doing a drawing study on Jamie Hewlett’s work but then it just culminated into that theory that I had. (in which I now know my mistakes with their location and the mistake of the photo) I’m still very new to the fandom so please bear with me!
