Pass It On Young Sports was invited by our dear friend over at The CZ Owners Club to their annual rifle day at their Somerset Range.

Our Young Sports and hmmm not so so young sports got to try everything from the little.22LR right up to Somerset very big centre fire rifles and have a go at practical shotgun too.

I must send a huge thank you to my dear friend Wayne the head honcho and pointy hat wearer for the CZ Club for his invitation, you and your ROs and Coaching team were brilliant.

I was also asked to stand in an RO and Coach for the day too, as it turns out I am one of the founding members of the club as I have been a member from the start.

I got to use my little CZ .22LR with Eley Ammunition and the Night Pearl Marten thermal scope on the dark ops range, this and the other NV units were a massive draw for all.

The day finished with a lot of smiles from the young sports and bigger ones from the big kids too, one young lady saying Daaaaaaad can I have one of these rifles with a Night Pearl Thermal Scope and also now you have to use Eley ammo, being a gentleman who likes another brand he gulped, I did chuckle.

Called back to that little 3 acre test crop of wheat as the pigeons had moved in on the blown flat spots.

This time I went set up for the job in hand with my Jack Pyke decoying set up and hide nets.

Joining me was my old Dad Ole snake eyes himself, as soon as got in the hide the pigeons descended on us, those Eley Hawk pigeon cartridges really pack some punch and dropped the birds cleanly at good distances.

As always the father son banter started, the shooting was awesome and the dogs worked great, a truly wonderful days pigeon shooting was had, the farmer came to say hello and took some photos for us as well as some pigeons for his tea, we're booked to go back next week too.

Having just repaired the firing pin on this old musket I wanted to go test it as I might need to address the strike, I was right it was too light and did not fire the cartridge constantly.

An old farming client called asked could I go look at a 3 acre field of test crop wheat, the reason it was a test crop and small field is that wheat does not fare well in the soil there, so trying out this test crop to see how it went, the pigeons were piling in on it.

Now I only went to have a look and push the birds off if I could, I had just over a book of Eley High Flyers 32grms of no 4 shot, so I really was not set up to go and shoot a pile of pigeons.

No hide or decoys, just field craft, sat bolt upright on a flight line in the open, with a gun with only 1 working barrel and Goose my Cocker Spaniel.

Blimey the pigeon were kamikaze and piled in on me, I shot for barely an hour then I ran out of cartridges, Goose worked hard and retrieved 26 wood pigeon, the gas gun on the field behind me kept them moving too.

I telle that shoot reminds of an article I did for shooting times many years ago called My Finest Hour when Hollie and Kira my labs were with me.

The farmer came over and took some pics and was very happy indeed, he took some pigeon for a farm BBQ he was having, I dropped the rest off to a young sport who wanted some for cooking class at school

I am going back in a few days with a working gun and full set up, good job I have just emptied my game freezers eh.

Out dealing with a pest control job and checking zero on a client's air rifle.

He popped into the range/shop the other evening saying he had bought and air rifle off his friend, it's a good un he tells me, is it any good and can I zero it for him.

I chuckled when he took it out of the slip, a good un as he called it, it's only an Air Arms S510 carbine one of the finest air rifles on the market.

I took it out on the pest job and had it zeroed in 5 shots, then used it on the vermin.
