Another teaser of my upcoming Ominis x f!MC enemies - lovers fic, Beneath the Contempt 💚

MC landed on a surface that was both broad and unexpectedly soft, cushioning her fall. She lay there, panting, as her gaze shot back to the cave entrance.

The swirling rocks closed over the cave behind her, sealing it shut. The moment it did, the screams in her mind ceased in an instant, leaving a pounding silence in their wake. All that remained was the sound of their labored breathing and the faint chirping of crickets in the forest brush around them.

With a heavy exhale, she rested her head down where she landed, closing her eyes for a brief moment to catch her breath. After a bit, she raised her head and looked down. Her eyes widened in shock.

She had landed right on Ominis’ chest.

Time seemed to freeze as she stared down at him and her heart pounded in her chest. The top few buttons of his black shirt had come undone in the rush to flee, exposing his pale skin. A small patch of blonde hair rested in the center of his chest, a detail she hadn’t noticed before. 

Not that she'd dare admit to ever looking at his chest before. 

Her nerves spiked and a sudden heat rose within her at the unexpected sight of his bare skin. She knew he couldn’t see, but it felt as though his faded blue eyes were fixed on hers, the moonlight casting a soft shimmer across them.

He on the other hand could feel her large chest rising and falling on top of his. His body stiffened, and he became acutely aware of one of her legs draped across his middle.

He could feel his trousers tightening.

With a grunt, he began shifting under her. “Get off me,” his face twisted in discomfort.

She rapidly shook her head to clear it. “Gladly,” she shot back before shoving herself upright. “You’re not exactly a soft landing.”

“And you’re heavier than you think,” he countered, standing up with a wince and rubbing his ribs. For a moment, they sat in silence to catch their breath as the reality of their escape settled in.

“Thanks for breaking my fall,” she said begrudgingly.

“Don’t mention it,” he replied coolly. “Ever.”

She stuck her tongue out at him, knowing full well he couldn’t see it. He casually ran a hand through his hair, smoothing it back into its usual pristine style. “What the fuck was all of that? What was that whispering?”

“And why did it turn into screams?” She put a finger to her chin.

“Screams?” His hand froze briefly mid-motion before continuing to slick back his hair. “I didn't hear any screams.” 

“I heard them as we were running out. You didn't?”

He shook his head. Feeling the new weight in her pocket, she took out the wand and examined it. It was made of holly and had a handle in the shape of a dragon. Its eyes glowed the same shade of green as the trails that almost engulfed them just now.

‘Hm. Never took Jackdaw for the dragon type. Maybe it has a dragon heartstring core.’

“Perhaps you heard the screaming because it has some sort of correlation to your ancient magic.”

She considered his words. It wasn't at all far-fetched. Every strange, inexplicable event in her life had some connection to her unique abilities.

She turned the wand in her fingers. It was almost as though its weight was impossibly balanced. The faint glow of the eyes enamored her, drawing her in. Their eerie light pulsed like a heartbeat— slow and hypnotic. The longer she stared, the harder it became to look away. The world around her dulled, and the sounds of the forest muffled as if she were sinking into deep water.

Then, that sensation returned — icy and searing all at once — crawling up her arm as if her veins were filling with liquid fire. It coiled around her bones and settled as an intoxicating contrast of pain and power. It was especially potent on her right side that held the wand and seemed to spread outward from there.

She barely registered the sharp intake of breath that wasn’t hers. Someone was speaking, but their whisper was distant and distorted. Whatever words they were attempting to say were sliding off her like rain against glass. The wand’s glow brightened and a hiss curled in the back of her mind.

It was a presence, and it was calling to her.

Ominis noticed how tightly she was holding onto the wand like it was something precious and irreplaceable. The protective grip, her possessive stance. It unsettled him. He reached out his hand. “I think I should hold onto the wand, MC.”

Her head snapped up to face him. Her expression was defensive, almost feral. She clutched the wand tighter to her chest as an irrational wave of anger surged within her. “No fucking way. The wand was my idea for the project, I knew where to find it, and it was my knowledge that got us this far. I'm hanging onto it. No one has earned it more than me.”

The whites of her eyes began to darken with a faint, black hue.

“MC, you’re not yourself,” Ominis warned as he stepped closer, his voice low but firm. Before she could react, he snatched the wand from her grasp and slipped it into his pocket.

“Hey!” she yelled as she lunged toward him.

She reached for his pocket, but Ominis was quicker. He grabbed her wrists with a firm, unyielding grip and his hands were steady despite her struggles. His face was calm, but his tone was laced with steel.

“Enough.”

The moment he pocketed the wand and grabbed her, the wild need to reclaim the wand drained away, leaving her feeling oddly empty but at peace. The glow in her eyes faded as she looked up at him towering over her. Her shoulders sagged and she stopped resisting. Ominis held her wrists for a moment longer, then slowly released her.

She stumbled back a step and her voice was small and unsteady. “I... I don’t know what came over me. I’m sorry.”

Ominis’ expression softened slightly, though his worry lingered. “I told you, that wand is dangerous. Whatever enchantment or curse it carries, it was affecting you immediately. Until we figure out what we’re dealing with, you shouldn’t touch it again.”

She nodded mutely as she kept her gaze downcast.

The tension between them eased slightly as they began making their way back toward the castle. The heavy silence only stretched. Finally, Ominis broke it.

“You never properly explained. How did you know the wand would be in that cave?”

She hesitated, her fingers twisting the hem of her sleeve. There was no point in hiding her previous experience in the cave. Not after what just happened in there. “Richard Jackdaw,” she admitted. “His ghost led me there once before. He told me he died with the wand, so I thought it was worth another trip back to his remains.”

Ominis stopped mid-step. “Jackdaw,” his lips curled into a grimace. “That mischievous, foolhardy ghost.”

“Well, he wasn’t entirely wrong, was he?” she quipped, gesturing toward his pocket where the wand rested.

Ominis let out a frustrated sigh and ran a hand through his hair again. “Next time, maybe consult me before following a ghost’s breadcrumbs into the jaws of death.”

She rolled her eyes but couldn’t help the faint smile tugging at her lips. “Sure, Ominis. Next time.”

jackdaw, the film starring oliver and jenna coleman which premieres tomorrow at fantastic fest in austin tx, now has an official instagram account.

according to the account, an official teaser trailer is coming soon.

Some updated info on production of Sandman Season 2 as more cast members are announced. Jenna is mentioned by Deadline as returning (though that was confirmed previously). One piece of information I'd missed is the Jamie Childs, her boyfriend (and director of Jackdaw as well as Sandman season 1) is also directing Season 2.

EDIT: I forgot to mention a teaser video for S2 has also been released but it's only a character intro video (announcing the new cast), and only focuses on the "Endless" characters, so Constantine is not included. However if they did one they could have done others and Jenna's character was so popular I could see them including her in one down the line. I still don't expect to see this until 2025 though - and possibly later remembering how long before Season 1 aired after filming ended.

Papa I is a Raven, Papa II is a Crow, Papa III is a Jackdaw, Papa IV is a cardinal. My [albeit lackluster] contribution to the hype currently in the Ghost fandom. I can't draw humans/ do them any justice [especially Papa], so I drew the Papas as birds. The day before the teaser or so, I joked that Papa III is a Jackdaw, a species of corvid in Europe that has very bright eyes. I then decided all of the Papas could be a type of corvid, and then here comes Ghost with Papa IV being a non-corvid and throwing off the corvid groove. Maybe he'll be a Jay later to fit in again, but I love the cardinal pun.

Day #138 more local lockdowns in England and Scotland

Heated! This was almost 4pm yesterday afternoon and yes, it was a very hot and sticky night. The newspapers and websites are full of packed beaches with everyone so close together and no evidence of social distancing. Aberdeen is in lockdown over the border and Preston is the latest to have to lockdown today.

Once again I’m so thankful we have outside space of our own.

Despite the heat, someone’s been very busy and I’ve collected the evidence from underneath and at the side of the palm by the top flower bed i.e. nowhere near the trees.

As soon as I showed my OH he said ‘What’s Butler been up to now?’ Of course, the answer, as he very well knows, is that the ‘Butlers’ are ALWAYS up to something.

Because of the time of year and the weather I guess, birds are deserting gardens while they recover from the breeding season and go through the moult.

During this time juvenile birds will start to gain their adult plumage and colouring, a good example of that is Robin

Adult birds also lose feathers so that they can be replaced with fresh, strong ones for the Season ahead.

I have to say again that our garden doesn’t seem any quieter, well, except for the absence of the Rooks, Jackdaws and Crows who we’ve seen over at the farm lately. Can’t say we’re missing them, except for Joe, we like Joe and he’s never any bother (Joe Rook) I’m particularly relishing the early morning quiet and peace. Ooh that reminds me -  except for the other morning when it was still dark and I could hear a bird singing fairly constantly over a long period, but couldn’t quite place it. After much to-ing and fro-ing consulting my Guru via the means of short (and pitch black) mobile phone footage of the slightly distant voice, the conclusion was that it was Robin once again in top spot of the day. All Spring and Summer it’s been Song Thrush dominating the chorus with everyone else reduced to backing tracks. What I hadn’t realised is that the song of Robins will vary throughout the year and indeed that they’re the only songbird who does sing all year round (except perhaps during the aforementioned moult)

Of course a great draw to our garden is the amount of water we provide and the fact that the bird bath is more or less opposite my chair at the kitchen table helps capture the better photos I take.

 I’m quite envious of this pair right now, although I don’t fancy drinking my bath water!

As I type I can hear two Buzzards overhead and a Green Woodpecker has just flown yaffling through the woods, a dozen or so Starlings are squabbling and one lonely House Sparrow is in the seed tray. The Blue, Great and Coal Tits have just left.

I’ve tried hard to get a decent picture of the Coal Tit but it didn’t stay too long and seemed nervous of all the Starlings - well, that’s no surprise. They have lovely buff coloured under parts similar to the shades on a Nuthatch. Speaking of Nuthatch I just managed to get a quick snap of one in the seed tray and another photo to close today’s Blog. I also got several empty shots of fuzzy green today too, thank goodness for digital, I couldn’t have this hobby if you still had to load film and post it off to Snappy Snaps or drop it in at the local Boots and wait in nervous anticipation to see how many pictures had actually turned out. 

You know how I have a series of pics of Birds on A Line and another series of the Apostle Trees in our garden? well now I seem to be creating another niche - shall I call it Chin Chin as an alternative to the altogether more obvious Bottoms Up! I’m glad this series isn’t costing me 20p a go as well because I’ve got a few looking very, very similar.

A little teaser mwah ha haaaa - someone’s going to feature in my scribblings tomorrow...

since someone asked me too this is also why oliver has done no wilderness press outside of the one session he did with jenna pre-strike which amazon has broken up into the few videos we've seen.

however, jackdaw is not a sag-aftra signatory; it's uk equity and that means the entire cast can promote and post about it if they want to. in fact jenna did post about it premiering at fantastic fest tomorrow, back when that was announced.

i think the cast has been quiet about it because there's really nothing to promote at this time other than it showing at that one indie film festival. it's a tiny independent film.

i'm not even sure it has a distributor yet, at least not outside the uk. i am assuming it has a uk distributor only because they're releasing a teaser trailer soon, but it may not even have that. i don't expect the cast to be at tomorrow's premier in austin ftr.

here's to hoping it gets a wider release and becomes a bigger deal so we can all see it!

and i agree the timing of wilderness's release is absolutely tragic!

Sorry if this is a dumb question- but is there a reason that Jenna isnt posting about any of her projects?? Klokkenluider got a tiny mention but wilderness has been M.I.A and Jackdaw is almost non existent?

Yes, there is; the actor's strike. She can't post about them, and she can't do any interviews about them either. That's why there were no events she attended for the premiere of Wilderness, and why she isn't doing anything for Jackdaw either. It's quite unfortunate that all three projects are coming out at a time when she can't do anything at all to promote them.
