Jack Mercer x Female Reader
Tumblr media
You had just heard the weather report that there was a bad storm coming in tonight and you immediately packed your bag and ran over to the Mercer house. You made it just in time, only getting few drops of rain before barging into the house. "HEY! The door was unlocked again, you guys really gotta do something about that" you said dropping your bag on the couch and walking past Bobby who simply rolled his eyes. "Well nobody expects someone to just barge into their house uninvited" you give him the finger making laugh as you search the fridge for the left overs you had cooked the other night. "Bobby I am always invited, I practically live here, I cook, I clean, I-" you are then suddenly startled by Jack popping behind you saying "oh you do a lot more than that gorgeous." You giggle as Jack wraps you in his arms and starts to snuggle into your neck as he starts to rub his large hands up and down your sides. Bobby makes an over exaggerated gagging sound before complaining "see this is exactly why I'm getting the fuck outta here," he then turns on a heal and starts to walk toward the door. You wiggle out of Jacks handsy grasp to shout "Wait Bobby, there's supposed to be a really bad storm tonight maybe you should stay in" you were genuinely worried not wanting him to get stuck. He then smiled reluctantly "relax, I am just going to handle some business I will be back before the morning, don't wait up.... and don't be nasty in the kitchen" he says before slamming the door on his way out, leaving you and Jack giggling in the kitchen.
After eating the left overs you had made the other night, you and Jack go upstairs to his room. You shower, light a bunch of candles, and change into one of his old band t-shirts before crawling into bed with him. The storm is raging and you're certain the power will go out at any moment but you simply couldn't care less. Jack has you sprawled over him as he rubs your back and hums to you. "Are you going to sleep in your jeans Mercer?" you joke as you look up at him making him chuckle. "No, obviously but I have a very beautiful lady currently holding me hostage and not letting me move." You roll your eyes and gently smack his chest. "Hey I'm not complaining, I would however prefer you like this" he says before flipping your positions so he is now hovering above you and looking down with a devilish smirk, "see? now this is much better" you giggle before rolling your eyes and pulling him down to kiss him. You wrap your arms around his shoulders as he wraps his arms around your waist deepening the kiss and fighting you for dominance. He starts trailing kisses from your lips to your neck leaving little love bites in his wake. He moves his hands from your waist to your hips, rearranging you to lift your leg over his hip to grind himself down against you. He groans deep in your ear making you arch your back at not only the sound but the vibration speeding south and making your head swim. Your eyes are already rolling to the back of your skull and he has barely even done anything yet. But the feeling of his large hands hungrily exploring your body, his deep voice rasping in your ear, his soft lips kissing and nipping at your neck, all if it combined had you feeling so overwhelmed you didn't even realize how loud you had started moaning. He chuckles deeply in your ear "Oh baby, if you making noises like that, it's going to be a very long night for both of us"
Okay so this was just a quick one shot because I am also madly in love with Jack Mercer and I need more content of him. Also this was supposed to be about cuddling with him buuuuut one thing led to another and here we are. Oh well hahahaha!

jack was usually a casual drinker.
tonight being different; slamming down beers like a madman watching y/n talking, laughing, joking with his teammates.
sure, his arm was snaked around her waist and her body was hooked to his, but that didn’t change the fact that he didn’t appreciate how all of them suddenly turned into comedians now that he had brought her out.
“hey y/n, down to take another shot?” dawson waved her over to the other side of the bar, and she innocently agreed.
“i’ll be right back jack, okay?” she kissed him on the cheek, leaving a light pink lip mark left on his face.
“okay, but come back here when you’re finished,” he said, eyes following her all the way to dawson and jesper. he knew that she had no ill intent, that she was just trying to get along with his friends. but something about watching her skip around in a short dress around them set it off inside him.
he, yet again, ordered another beer, the cool liquid failing to cure the fire starting in his body.
jack decided he actually didn’t want her hanging out with them alone, so he walked over to where they were, reclaiming his position around her waist.
“hi babe,” she said, holding her small hand on top of his, “everything okay?”
“just fine. what are you guys laughing about?”
“dude, she is just so funny, you got a good one hughes, maybe you should crack a joke from time to time like her,” jesper joked, dawson nodding his head in agreement whilst sipping his own drink.
jack’s jaw tightened with anger, but not wanting it to get the best of him, he just stormed off in pursuit of the restroom.
the group left behind looked confused in jack’s departure, leveling in an awkward silence.
“i’m gonna… im gonna go see if he’s okay,” she sat up off the stool, smoothing down her dress, following in jacks footsteps.
knocking on the door of the single bathroom, she gently spoke “baby? is everything alright?” she heard nothing for a second, thinking he was just feeling sick. as she spun on her heel to go back to the bar, she shrieked when a hand grabbed her wrist and pulled her into the bathroom.
“no, not everything is alright.” he said bluntly, backing her into the cold tile wall.
“well what’s wrong? you just like, stormed away from everyone with no explanation.” she rubbed his arms soothingly, trying to understand what was making her boyfriend so worked up.
“the guys. they’re fucking all over you and it’s pissing me off,” jack huffed, leaning his forehead press against hers.
“jack, you know i love you, and you know your teammates would never hit on me. they were just being nice,”
for whatever reason, y/n being so innocent about the whole situation was turning him on more than the short tight dress she had on, or the intoxicating smell lingering on her skin.
“you don’t get it… i know how guys are..” his head moved down to deliver sloppy kisses to her neck, “you’re all mine, no one else can have you,”
y/n’s breath hitched, hot and bothered from the alcohol and jack sucking on her neck,
“mm, of course i am, all yours,” her voice trailed off into bliss, jacks hands roughly grabbing her wrists and pinning them against her head. his wet lips went to claim hers, kissing her with everything in him.
it all happened so fast; jack moved her body with ease, bending y/n’s body over the sink, hand moving under her dress to rub her clothed clit.
she muffled her moan with her hand, jack’s eyes dark in the reflection staring back at her,
“please jack,”
“please what, baby?”
“more, mm fuck,” she threw her head back, feeling her pussy dripping onto his fingers as his movements on her clit slowed.
“you asked for it,” he husked, moving her panties to the side, slipping down his pants exposing his dick, aching for attention.
he aligned himself with her entrance, and she hissed when he started slamming into her with no time to adjust to his length.
“my fucking slut, letting me fuck you in the bathroom like this,” jack mumbled, his shirt tucked into his teeth, abs flexing with every thrust into her.
the pain turned in to pleasure, and the moans escaping y/n’s mouth, the tears running down her cheeks, and her chest bouncing made him go crazier and crazier.
jack grabbed a fistful of y/n’s hair, she gasped as he pulled her head back to kiss her roughly, biting her hard enough to almost draw blood.
his thrusts became sloppier, coming close to his high, and she was right there with him. a few more pumps and he came inside her, her walls covered with his release, y/n’s own juices coating his dick.
the couple panted, jack groaning as he pulled himself out of her, adjusting y/n’s clothing before fixing himself back into his pants.
y/n could barely stand, completely fucked out. jack held her up against his chest, placing a kiss lightly to her shoulder.
“may wanna fix your makeup before you go back out, pretty girl,” he laughed, his own appearance a giveaway; the hair under his hat was ever so slightly damp from sweat, and his cheeks a flush of red.
she rolled her eyes, examining herself in the mirror and blotting away any of the streaky makeup on her face. they walked out hand in hand, and sat down next to his friends.
“hey- woah, what the hell happened to you two in there?”
“have some fun in the bathroom eh? why they took so long,”
y/n’s face burned with embarrassment, turning to bury herself into his chest, and he only only laughed in response, proud that they knew what the two of them had done.

Tumblr media
Summary: Hurt and angry, Y/N avoids Jack for most of the night until he confronts her as the party winds down. Just as things are heating up between Y/N and Jack, Lee walks in on Y/N and Jack in an intimate moment.
word count - 4341
...
Jack chuckled as he observed Quinn and his dad bickering good-naturedly over the stove. Quinn kept trying to slather more sauce onto the ribs, much to Jim's exasperation.
"No, no, you're doing it all wrong!" Jim complained, attempting to wrestle the basting brush from Quinn's hand. "You're supposed to let the meat speak for itself, not drown it in that sugary nonsense."
Quinn rolled his eyes. "Oh, come on, live a little! Everyone knows the secret to killer ribs is in the sauce dad."
Their playful argument carried across the large house, drawing amused glances from the other partygoers. Jack shook his head, grinning at their antics. He loved these laid-back gatherings in the winter, where everyone could just kick back and enjoy each other's company.
Turning his attention back to Lee, Jack tried to focus on their conversation about the latest Cardinals game. "...and did you see that pass in the third period?" Lee was saying excitedly, his hands waving animatedly as he recounted the highlights of the game. "I thought for sure they were going to score off that turnover."
Luke nodded, taking a swig of his beer. "Yeah, man, that was a close call. But the goalie really stepped up his game tonight. Those saves were unreal."
They continued to chat, their voices rising and falling with the ebb and flow of their enthusiasm. He tried to focus on the words, but a familiar laugh rang out, causing his heart to skip a beat. Jack's attention drifted from Lee's animated play-by-play of the game, his gaze inexorably drawn to where you stood by the dessert table with your girlfriends.
You were laughing at something Mia had said, your eyes sparkling with mirth. Jack watched, transfixed, as you tipped your head back, exposing the smooth column of your throat. Time seemed to slow as he took in the sight of you, the rest of the party fading into the background.
Lee, oblivious to Jack's distraction, continued chattering on about batting averages and on-base percentages. But Jack was only half-listening, his attention continually drawn back to you. "Hey, Jack! Did you catch that insane goal in overtime?"
Jack merely hummed noncommittally, his tone casual. "Yeah, yeah, I saw that. Pretty sick shot."
His gaze traced the curve of your smile, the fullness of your lips. An ache blossomed in his chest, a longing so acute it stole his breath. What would it feel like, he wondered, to have those lips pressed against his own? To trail his fingers along the silken expanse of your skin, to hear you sigh his name in the darkness?
In a trance, Jack's eyes roamed over you, drinking in every detail. The way your dress clung to your curves, the faint smell of your perfume on the jacket he had offered you outside, which of course you had given back covered in your smell. You were a masterpiece, a work of art come to life.
God, you were beautiful.
And then, as if sensing the weight of his stare, you turned. Your eyes met his across the flickering flames, and the world ground to a halt. In that suspended moment, Jack felt a jolt of electricity coursing through his veins, a pull towards you that was almost gravitational.
Your lips curved into a soft, secret smile, and Jack's heart stuttered in his chest. That smile held a thousand unspoken promises, a wealth of possibility that both terrified and thrilled him. He knew he should look away, knew he was treading on dangerous ground. But he was powerless to resist the magnetic allure of your gaze, the siren song of your presence.
Did you have any idea what you did to him? How much he wanted to pull you into his arms, consequences be damned?
He took a swig of his beer, trying to calm the riot of emotions swirling inside him. This was getting out of hand. He needed to get a grip on himself before he did something stupid.
Like confess his feelings for you, the one girl who was absolutely, completely off-limits...
Shaking his head, Jack forced himself to focus on Lee's words, determined to push all thoughts of you from his mind. At least for now.
But deep down, he knew it was futile. Because when it came to you, resistance had always been impossible. And maybe, just maybe... that was starting to feel more thrilling than frightening.
"Right? I thought the puck was going to bounce right off the crossbar, but nope - top shelf, baby!" Lee nodded, oblivious to the undercurrents swirling around him.
"No, but seriously," Ava said, her face deadpan, "I think I'm going to start a GoFundMe for my boss's fashion sense. It's a tragedy, really. The man needs an intervention."
Sophie snorted. "What, you mean the 'middle-aged dad on vacation' look isn't working for him?"
"Please," you chimed in, grinning, "I've seen actual dads on vacation with better style. He's more like... a cross between a used car salesman and a cruise ship entertainer."
Mia nearly choked on her drink. "Oh my god, I can't unsee it now. The tacky Hawaiian shirts, the ill-fitting khakis..."
"Don't forget the socks with sandals!" Ava added, shuddering dramatically.
You all burst into laughter, the absurdity of the image too much to handle. Your shoulders shook with mirth, tears of hilarity pricking at the corners of your eyes. But then, gradually, you became aware of a prickling sensation on the back of your neck. The unmistakable feeling of being watched, the stare burning into your skin like a physical caress.
Still giggling, you scanned the crowd of faces, trying to catch the culprit. Your gaze flitted from person to person - Uncle Joe by the cooler, Quinn and Jim still arguing over the grill, a group of Lee's friends from college - but no one seemed to be paying you any attention.
Until your eyes locked with a pair of striking blue ones.
Jack.
The laughter died on your lips as your breath caught in your throat. He was staring at you intensely. The old, faded baseball cap perched backwards on his head did little to tame his unruly dark hair, and the worn grey hoodie he wore strained against the muscles of his chest and shoulders.
Your heart stuttered in your chest as you drank him in, heat rising unbidden to your cheeks. In that suspended moment, it was as if everyone else simply fell away, leaving only you and Jack, connected by some invisible, unbreakable thread.
But then Lee came into view, saying something to Jack with an easygoing grin. The spell was broken as quickly as it had been cast, uncertainty flooding in to fill the void.
Swallowing hard, you tore your gaze away, only to find Mia watching you with a knowing smirk. Her green eyes sparkled with barely contained laughter, and you knew you'd been caught red-handed.
"Shut up," you muttered, feeling your face flame even hotter.
Mia held up her hands in mock surrender. "Hey, I didn't say anything! But seriously, Y/N, when are you going to put that poor boy out of his misery and jump his bones already?"
"Mia!" you hissed, mortified. "It's not... I can't... he's Lee's best friend!"
Sophie rolled her eyes. "So? That doesn't mean you two can't get your freak on. Just think of how hot the sneaking around would be..."
You buried your face in your hands, torn between laughter and abject horror. "I hate you all. You're the worst friends ever."
Ava slung an arm around your shoulders, grinning. "Nah, you love us. And you know we've got your back, no matter what. Even if 'what' is climbing that tall, dark, and broody tree over there like it's your job."
Despite your embarrassment, you couldn't help but dissolve into giggles once more, your heart feeling lighter than it had all evening.
You snuggled deeper into the cozy embrace of the blanket, content to simply bask in the company of your friends. Ava, Mia, and Sophie had settled into the chairs around you, the conversation flowing as easily as the alcohol.
As the minutes ticked by, you found yourself growing increasingly drowsy, the events of the day finally catching up to you. Your eyelids grew heavy, and you had to fight to keep them open. Dimly, you registered Quinn hopping off rib duty, his arm slung around his girlfriend's shoulders as they made their way to the other living room, easily getting swept into his mothers conversation.
A moment later, Lee and Luke disappeared upstairs, their good-natured trash talk about the upcoming NHL game fading as the door swung shut behind them. Suddenly, feeling restless, you stood up - only to sway on your feet, the blanket flopping back down onto the love seat.
The world tilted alarmingly, and for a dizzying second, you were certain you were about to face-plant right into new glass table Ellen had bought.
quick as a flash, strong hands gripped your arms, steadying you. Before you could process what was happening, you found yourself being tugged down onto a solid, warm lap.
"Hi, Mini," Jack's deep, honeyed voice rumbled in your ear, sending a shiver racing down your spine that had nothing to do with the chill in the air. Your heart leapt into your throat, a giddy thrill coursing through you at his close proximity. This was the closest you'd been to him all night, and the heat of his body seemed to seep into your very bones.
Tipping your head back, you met his gaze, a slow smile spreading across your face. There was just something about Jack, something that never failed to bring a grin to your lips and a flutter to your pulse.
Whatever it was, you knew you were hopelessly entangled in his web, caught in a pull that only seemed to grow stronger with each passing day.
"Hi yourself," you murmured, your voice coming out breathier than you'd intended. "You come here often?"
Jack's lips quirked, his arms tightening around your waist. "Well, you know me. I never could resist a damsel in distress."
You laughed, swatting at his chest. "My hero. Whatever would I do without you?"
His expression softened, something tender and unguarded flickering in his gaze. "Guess you'll never have to find out, huh?"
Your breath caught at the unspoken promise in his words, the implications hanging heavy in the scant space between you. Suddenly, the air felt charged, electric, like the moment before a thunderstorm breaks.
Awareness prickled over your skin as you stared up at him, your senses hyperattuned to every flex of his fingers on your hip, every hitch in his breathing. The rest of the world seemed to recede, fading into insignificance until there was only this - the crackle of the fire, the pounding of your heart, and the magnetic pull of Jack's eyes on yours.
It would be so easy, you thought hazily, to just lean in and close the distance between you. To finally, finally discover if his lips were as soft as they looked, if he tasted as good as you'd always imagined...
But then a burst of raucous laughter from across the yard shattered the spell, jolting you back to reality. You blinked, heat rushing to your cheeks as you realized just how close you'd been to kissing your brother's best friend - in full view of everyone, no less.
Clearing your throat, you started to pull away, only for Jack's arms to tighten around you. "Hey," he said softly, his voice low and intimate. "Where do you think you're going?"
You swallowed hard, your heart hammering against your ribs. "I... I should probably go check on Lee upstairs. He gets super sensitive over chel, you know that." It was a flimsy excuse, and from the knowing glint in Jack's eyes, he wasn't buying it for a second. But he loosened his hold, nonetheless, letting you slide off his lap on unsteady legs.
"Hurry back," he murmured, his gaze hot and heavy on your skin. "I'll be waiting."
And as you stumbled away, your pulse racing and your mind awhirl, you couldn't help but wonder...
What the hell had you just gotten yourself into?
You knew you needed to be more careful, needed to keep a tighter rein on your reactions to Jack. The last thing you wanted was for Lee to catch on to the tangle of feelings knotting in your chest.
You managed to tear yourself away from the magnetic pull of Jack's presence, mumbling some excuse to your friends about needing to use the bathroom. But instead of heading inside, you found yourself climbing the stairs, drawn by the muffled shouts and laughter emanating from Lee's bedroom.
As you reached the top of the landing, the sounds of aggressive button-mashing and colorful trash talk grew louder, bringing a smile to your face. Some things never changed.
Pushing open the door, you were greeted by the sight of Lee and Luke sprawled out on the floor, controllers in hand, their eyes glued to the giant TV screen. They were in the middle of an intense NHL match, their players zipping across the virtual ice in a blur of motion.
"No, no, no!" Lee yelled, his face scrunched up in concentration as he mashed the buttons frantically. "Don't let him get past you, you idiot!"
Luke cackled, his fingers flying over his own controller. "Too late, bro! That's what you get for picking such a weak-ass team."
Lee let out a growl of frustration as Luke's player scored a goal, the tinny sound of a horn blaring from the speakers. "Lucky shot," he grumbled, elbowing his friend in the ribs. "I'll get you back for that."
"Bring it on, loser," Luke taunted, his grin wide and shit-eating. "I could beat you with one hand tied behind my back."
You leaned against the doorframe, shaking your head in amusement as you watched them bicker and shove at each other like overgrown children. It was moments like these that made you forget all about the stresses and uncertainties of adulthood, transporting you back to simpler times.
"Having fun, boys?" you asked, your voice cutting through their competitive banter.
Two heads swiveled in your direction, identical expressions of surprise on their faces. "Oh, hey, Y/N," Lee said, his annoyance melting into an easy smile. "Didn't see you there."
"Yeah, we were just schooling each other in the art of hockey," Luke chimed in, puffing out his chest. "Wanna see me kick your brother's ass?"
You snorted, pushing off the doorframe and sauntering into the room. "As much as I'd love to witness that thrashing, I actually came up to see if you guys wanted any snacks. Though from the looks of it, you've already got enough beef to feed a small army."
Lee rolled his eyes, chucking a pillow at your head which you deftly dodged. "Har har, very funny. But yeah, some snacks would be awesome. I'm starving."
"When are you not starving?" you teased, ruffling his hair affectionately. "I swear, you're like a human garbage disposal."
"Hey, I'm a growing boy!" Lee protested, swatting your hand away. "I need my sustenance."
Luke snickered, ducking as Lee tried to smack him with a controller. "Yeah, keep telling yourself that, buddy. I think you stopped growing in the eighth grade."
As the two dissolved into another round of good-natured ribbing, you couldn't help but laugh, your heart swelling with fondness for these ridiculous, wonderful boys.
They might drive you crazy sometimes, but moments like these? Where you could just relax and joke around, forgetting about all the complications and uncertainties of the real world?
They were priceless.
So you settled yourself on the bed, content to watch Lee and Luke battle it out on the digital ice, their laughter and trash talk washing over you like a balm.
And for a little while, at least, you let yourself forget about the heat of Jack's gaze, the confusion swirling in your heart.
you headed back downstairs, the warmth of your impromptu hangout session with Lee and Luke still buzzing pleasantly under your skin, you couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of resolve.
So what if you had some complicated, confusing feelings for Jack? So what if his mere presence sent your pulse racing and your thoughts spiraling into dangerous, uncharted territory? At the end of the day, he was like a brother to you - and that was something you couldn't afford to lose.
Squaring your shoulders, you stepped down into the living room, determined to put some distance between yourself and the magnetic pull of Jack's orbit. You'd just grab another drink, maybe chat with your friends for a bit, and then make some excuse about needing to head home early. Easy peasy.
Ava, Mia, and Sophie were huddled together, their heads bent close as they whispered furiously to each other. The easy laughter and playful banter from earlier had vanished, replaced by a tense, almost electric undercurrent that set your nerves on edge.
"Hey guys," you said cautiously, sinking down into your seat. "What's going on?"
Three pairs of eyes snapped to your face, wide and startled, like kids caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
"Oh, Y/N! We were just..." Mia trailed off, shooting a panicked look at the other two.
Sophie jumped in, her voice a little too bright, a little too brittle. "We were just talking about... boys. You know, the usual."
But there was something off about her tone, something strained and artificial that set your internal alarms blaring. You'd known these girls long enough to tell when they were hiding something - and right now? They were definitely hiding something.
"Cut the crap, Soph," you said, your gaze flicking between the three of them. "I know you guys better than that. Seriously, what's up? You're starting to freak me out."
"Y/N, we need to talk. It's about Jack."
Your stomach dropped, a cold, creeping dread slithering up your spine at the mention of his name, but you tried to play it cool. "What about him?"
Mia and Sophie exchanged a loaded glance, she nodded encouragingly, their faces grim as Mia spoke up, her voice low and conspiratorial. "We overheard him talking to Luke earlier, and... well, he said some things. About you."
Your mind raced, a thousand possibilities whirling through your head. What could she possibly mean? A cold sense of dread trickled down your spine. "What kind of things?"
Sophie bit her lip, looking uncomfortable. "He was laughing about how easy it was to string you along, how you were just another notch in his bedpost. He even said..." She paused, as if gathering her courage. "He said he had a bet going with his teammates to see how fast he could get you into bed."
The words hit you like a punch to the gut, knocking the air from your lungs. It couldn't be true. Jack wouldn't... he couldn't...not after tonight.
But even as you tried to deny it, doubt began to creep in, insidious and corrosive. All those moments between you - the stolen glances, the lingering touches, the whispered promises - had they all been a lie? A cruel game played by a master manipulator?
Anger surged through you, hot and bitter, mingling with the sharp sting of betrayal. How could you have been so stupid, so naive?
"I... I need some air," you mumbled, stumbling to your feet and away from the concerned gazes of your friends.
you wove your way through the crowd of laughing, chattering partygoers, a sudden commotion near the edge of the yard caught your attention. Frowning, you craned your neck, trying to get a better look - only for your heart to plummet straight into your stomach.
There, surrounded by his friends near the Christmas tree, was Jack - and he wasn't alone. A tall, stunning brunette was glued to his side, their arms pressed flush against each other as she leaned into him, whispering something in his ear.
For a moment, you couldn't breathe, couldn't think, couldn't do anything but stare as a tidal wave of emotions crashed over you. Hurt, betrayal, and a searing, white-hot jealousy that took your breath away with its intensity.
You watched, frozen, as Jack threw his head back and laughed at something the girl said, throwing his arm over her shoulder. They looked so comfortable together, so natural - like they'd done this a thousand times before.
And just like that, the fragile bubble of denial you'd been clinging to burst, the illusion shattering like glass at your feet.
You were such a fool.
Of course Jack didn't have feelings for you. Of course he saw you as nothing more than his best friend's kid sister, a silly little girl with a hopeless crush. How could you have ever thought otherwise?
For the rest of the night, you did your best to avoid Jack, always keeping him in your peripheral vision but never letting him get too close. Every time you caught a glimpse of his tousled hair or heard the rumble of his deep laugh, your heart clenched painfully, a fresh wave of humiliation washing over you.
But as the party began to wind down and guests started to trickle out, you found yourself cornered by the one person you'd been desperately trying to evade.
"Y/N." Jack's voice was low and urgent as he caught your elbow, spinning you around to face him.
"Nothing," you managed to choke out, your voice cracking traitorously. "I'm fine. I just... I need to go."
But even as you tried to pull away, Jack's grip on your arm tightened, his fingers digging into your skin with a desperate sort of urgency. "Wait, please. Just talk to me. Tell me what's going on."
You yanked your arm from his grasp, glaring up at him with all the fury and hurt you could muster. "I have nothing to say to you, Jack."
His brow furrowed, confusion etched across his unfairly handsome features. "What's going on? You've been avoiding me all night. Did I... did I do something wrong?"
"Why do you care?" you spat, the words bitter and acidic on your tongue. "Shouldn't you be getting back to your girlfriend over there?" Jack blinked, a flicker of confusion passing over his stupidly handsome face. A harsh, bitter laugh tore from your throat. "Don't play dumb, Jack. I know all about your little bet. About how I'm just another checkmark to you."
Jack's eyes widened, shock and disbelief warring on his face. "What? Y/N, that's insane. I would never... who told you that?"
You scoffed, crossing your arms over your chest like a shield. "Does it matter? The point is, I know the truth now. I know what kind of guy you really are."
He took a step closer, crowding into your personal space, his gaze locked on yours with an intensity that stole your breath. "The truth? The truth is that I'm crazy about you, Y/N. I have been for years." Your heart stuttered in your chest, a traitorous flutter of hope sparking to life. "That girl... she's just a friend. I swear. There's nothing going on between us," he insisted, his voice low and fervent.
One hand came up to cradle your cheek, his thumb brushing over your skin with a tenderness that made you ache. "I could never lie to you, Y/N. You're... you're everything to me."
You wanted to believe him. God, how you wanted to believe him. But the seeds of doubt had already taken root, twisting your thoughts into knots.
"I don't... I can't..." you whispered, hating the way your voice shook.
Jack's other hand found your waist, pulling you flush against the solid warmth of his body. "Then let me prove it to you," he murmured, his breath hot against your ear. "Let me show you how much you mean to me."
And then his mouth was on yours, fierce and desperate and achingly perfect, his kiss searing away every last shred of resistance. You melted into him, a broken moan rising in your throat as his tongue swept over yours, claiming and possessing and branding you as his own.
The kiss was electric, a live wire igniting every nerve ending in your body until you felt like you might burst into flames right then and there. His hands slid into your hair, his fingers tangling in the silky strands as he angled your head, deepening the kiss until you were drowning in him, lost to everything but the heat of his touch and the sweet, dark bliss of his mouth on yours.
"It's you, Y/N," he rasped, his voice low and raw with emotion. "It's always been you." 😉
just as you were losing yourself completely in his embrace, a familiar voice cut through the haze of desire, shattering the intimate bubble you'd created. "Where's Y/N?" Lee called out, his footsteps echoing on the stairs.
You and Jack froze, your lips still locked together, your bodies intertwined. What were you doing? Making out with your brother's best friend, in the middle of a party, where anyone could see you...
Jack sensed your sudden tension, pulling back just enough to meet your gaze. His eyes were dark, pupils blown wide with arousal, but there was a softness there too, a tenderness that made your heart ache.
"Shit," you muttered. Your mind raced, frantically searching for an excuse, any excuse. "I… I'll just tell him I was in the bathroom or we were just talking," you whispered, straightening your clothes with shaking hands.
"Hey," he murmured, brushing a strand of hair back from your face. "It's okay. We don't have to hide."
You swallowed hard, your throat tight with emotion. "But Lee... what if he..."
"What if I what?" Lee's voice was closer now, just on the other side of the door.
Your heart lodged in your throat, fear and guilt and a desperate, wild hope all tangling together in your chest. This was it. The moment of truth. Once Lee walked through that door, there would be no going back.

Meeting Quinn
The atmosphere in the Prudential Center buzzed with excitement. It wasn’t just any game night—tonight, the Vancouver Canucks were in town, and it was the first time YN would meet Jack and Luke’s big brother, Quinn. She knew how much Jack and Luke looked up to him, so the nerves were creeping in, even though she’d never admit it out loud.
As she laced up her skates in the locker room, Jack noticed the small, anxious frown on her face.
"Nervous to meet Quinn?" he asked, nudging her with his elbow. He had that signature mischievous grin, the one that always meant he knew something she didn’t want to admit.
"Maybe a little," YN replied, tying her skates a little tighter than necessary. "He’s your big brother, and he’s the Canucks’ captain—what if he thinks I’m a total rookie?"
Luke, who was sitting beside her, chuckled. "Quinn’s gonna love you, don’t worry. Besides, if we trust you on the ice, he will too."
Dawson Mercer, who was getting ready nearby, chimed in with a teasing smile. "Yeah, but he might give you the Hughes Brothers' official stamp of approval, so no pressure."
"Thanks, Dawson," YN muttered sarcastically, though a grin was sneaking its way onto her face.
Nico Hischier, always the calm, steady captain of the Devils, gave her a reassuring pat on the back. "You’ve got this. And Quinn? He’ll see right away how good you are. He might even ask to trade you to Vancouver," he joked.
YN rolled her eyes, laughing. "Yeah, right. I’m not going anywhere."
As game time approached, the butterflies in YN’s stomach picked up, but once she hit the ice, her focus shifted to the game. Facing Quinn Hughes on the opposing team made things surreal, especially seeing how well he moved—just like Jack and Luke had always described.
The game ended in a hard-fought victory for the Devils, and as the final buzzer rang, Jack skated over to YN, playfully bumping her with his shoulder.
"Ready to meet Quinn now?" he asked.
"Do I have a choice?" she replied with a grin.
After the post-game handshakes, Jack and Luke led YN to where Quinn stood at center ice, still in his Canucks gear, looking every bit the confident leader they had talked him up to be. As soon as he spotted YN, he smiled.
"So, this is the YN I’ve been hearing so much about?" Quinn said, holding out a gloved hand. "You must be pretty special to keep these two in line."
YN grinned, shaking his hand. "I try, but it’s not easy. You know how they are."
Quinn laughed, glancing at Jack and Luke with a fond smile. "Trust me, I do."
"She’s pretty good, though," Luke chimed in, draping an arm around YN’s shoulders. "We kinda treat her like our little sister."
"And she’s way faster than Luke," Jack added with a smirk, earning a mock scowl from his younger brother.
Quinn’s gaze softened, and he nodded. "Well, if these two have your back, then so do I. Welcome to the family, YN."
YN’s cheeks warmed at the gesture. It wasn’t every day that she got such a warm welcome from a rival captain, let alone one who felt like an extension of the family she’d already grown so close to.
Before they left the ice, Dawson skated by, calling out with a laugh, "Hey, Quinn, don’t get any ideas about poaching our star rookie!"
Quinn winked. "No promises, Mercer."
As YN stood there, surrounded by the Hughes brothers and her teammates, she couldn’t help but feel like she truly belonged—on the ice and with her new hockey family.

Summary: After Jason suddenly declares he no longer wants to have a baby with her, despite their previous plans, Y/N finally leaves the hell that is her home and seeks the one thing that could give her answers. After agonizing over the decision, Y/N takes the tests spiraling over the results.
Word Count ~ 2054
...
Y/N collapsed onto the bed, her chest heaving and her skin glistening with a sheen of sweat. Adrenaline still coursed through her veins as she reached out for Jason, desperately seeking the comfort of his warm embrace.
But to her dismay, he merely rolled over, his back facing her. The deafening silence that followed was oppressive, broken only by their labored breathing.
"Hey," she broached softly, a tremor in her voice. "What's wrong?" Y/N asked, her voice barely above a whisper. She propped herself up on her elbow, studying Jason's tense profile in the dim light of the bedroom as she gently rubbed his back, trying to offer whatever comfort she could.
He grumbled something unintelligible, his jaw clenched tight, his body rigid and unyielding.
"What did you say?" Y/N pressed, a sense of unease and dread creeping into her chest, tightening around her heart.
"I said," Jason repeated, his voice cold and detached, "I don't want to have a baby with you anymore."
Y/N's heart stopped, her breath catching in her throat as a wave of disbelief and heartbreak washed over her. In the muted glow of the bedroom, Y/N's world shattered like fragile glass. Her body, still throbbing and tingling from their intimate encounter, now grew cold and numb.
Jason sat up, his expression hard and unyielding as he turned to face Y/N. "You heard me. I don't want a baby. We try and try to conceive this...this thing ," he said, his voice dripping with disdain, "but it hasn't worked. I'm tired of trying. I've had my fill of you for the last five months."
Y/N felt as if she had been slapped, the words striking her like a physical blow. She sat up, clutching the sheet to her chest, her mind reeling from the devastating revelation.
"But we talked about this," she argued, her voice trembling with a mix of disbelief and hurt. "We agreed that we were ready, that we wanted to start a family. You said you were gonna marry me! How can you say you've had your fill of the woman you want to spend the rest of your life with?"
Jason scoffed, rolling his eyes dismissively. "Well, I changed my mind. And it's not like you have much of a say in the matter, anyway," he sneered.
Y/N's eyes narrowed, anger flaring hot and fierce in her veins. "Excuse me?" she hissed, her voice low and dangerous. How dare he treat her as if she had no say in the matter - this was their future, their dream, their child they were discussing.
"You heard me," Jason repeated, his tone mocking and callous. "It's my decision, too. And I've decided that I don't want a kid tying me down." He turned away, his broad shoulders rigid with finality, leaving Y/N feeling utterly betrayed and alone.
Without another word, Y/N rose from the bed, her movements stiff and mechanical as she gathered her discarded clothes. She stalked into the bathroom, slamming the door behind her with a resounding bang that reverberated through the tense silence.
Leaning heavily against the sink, she braced her trembling hands on the cool porcelain as hot, angry tears streamed down her flushed cheeks.
With a shaking hand, she turned on the shower, the scalding spray pounding against her skin as she stepped under it, scrubbing furiously.
She tried in vain to wash away the lingering feeling of Jason's touch, the essence of their intimate encounter seeping onto her thighs. The water cascaded down her body, but it offered no solace, no relief from the anguish consuming her.
Desperate, Y/N rummaged through the cabinets, her movements frantic as she pushed aside bottles of shampoo and tubes of toothpaste, searching for the small foil packet that held her last hope. But as she tore through the cluttered shelves, her heart sank, a fresh wave of panic crashing over her.
The pill was gone.
"No, no, no," she choked out, her voice breaking with anguish. "Fuck!" she cried, slamming her fist against the unyielding tile wall.
The impact sent a jolt of pain through her hand, but she barely registered it, consumed by the overwhelming fear of being trapped - tethered to a man who no longer loved her, who didn't want the life they had so carefully planned together.
The bathroom descended into chaos as Y/N's desperation reached a fever pitch. She swept her arm across the counter, sending bottles and jars crashing to the floor, the sound of shattering glass mingling with her anguished sobs.
Tearing open drawers, she flung their contents aside, heedless of the mess she was creating. In her frantic search, she upended the trash can, the contents spilling out across the tile.
Y/N's world was crashing down around her, and she felt powerless to stop it. She sank to the floor, curling in on herself as the full weight of her devastation overwhelmed her. Clutching her knees to her chest, she wept bitterly, her heart shattering into a million irreparable pieces.
The fluorescent lights flickered overhead, casting an eerie glow on the nearly empty shelves of the CVS. Y/N stood in the middle of the aisle, her eyes darting back and forth between the rows of cardboard boxes, her heart pounding in her chest.
The silence was deafening, broken only by the distant hum of the refrigerators and the static of the TV mounted on the wall.
Beside her, Heather shifted from foot to foot, her impatience growing with each passing second. The tapping of her foot against the linoleum floor echoed through the store, grating on Y/N's already frayed nerves.
"Could you stop tapping and put that pea brain of yours to use?" Y/N snapped, her voice cutting through the stillness like a knife. The harsh words escaped her lips before she could even register them, her nerves completely frayed.
Heather shot her a sideways glance, her lips pressed into a thin line. She reached out and grabbed a box from the shelf, shoving it into Y/N's hands.
"This looks fine, Y/N," she said, her tone clipped and laced with a hint of irritation. "You've read every box back to front. I think you should just choose one."
Y/N stared down at the box in her hands, her mind racing with a whirlwind of emotions. She knew Heather was right, but choosing a box made the situation feel too real – this box held the answer to the rest of her life. The weight of the decision felt crushing, and she couldn't help but feel utterly alone in this moment, despite Heather's presence.
Swallowing thickly, Y/N ran her fingers over the cardboard, tracing the words printed on the packaging. Every fiber of her being wanted to tear the box open, to find the answers that would dictate her future. But the fear of what those answers might be paralyzed her, leaving her frozen in place, the box trembling in her shaking hands.
"Screw it," Y/N muttered under her breath, her resolve hardening. She grabbed four more boxes from the shelf, the cardboard containers feeling heavy in her hands.
Without another moment's hesitation, she turned to walk away, but something made her pause. With a sigh of frustration, she spun back around and snatched one more box, just for good measure.
Heather let out a surprised laugh, shaking her head in disbelief at Y/N's sudden burst of decisiveness. "Alright, that's more like it," she murmured, offering her friend an encouraging smile, despite the gravity of the situation.
She wandered over to the fridges and grabbed a 2-liter bottle of soda before meeting Y/N at the checkout counter.
They plopped their items down in front of the cashier, a middle-aged man with a receding hairline and a bored expression on his face. He glanced up at them, his eyes widening as he took in the array of pregnancy tests and the massive bottle of soda.
The cashier's voice cut through the tense silence as he spoke up, a playful smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Having trouble deciding, ladies?"
Y/N felt her cheeks heat up, suddenly self-conscious under the man's curious gaze. She opened her mouth to respond, but the words caught in her throat, leaving her uncharacteristically flustered.
Thankfully, Heather jumped in, offering the cashier a polite smile. "Oh, you know how it is," she said, her tone light and diplomatic. "Gotta make sure we get the right ones, you know?"
The cashier nodded, his expression understanding as he scanned their items and bagged them up. "That'll be $32.50," he said, adding the final box to the pile.
Y/N silently handed over the cash, her heart pounding in her chest. "Thank you," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. The cashier gave her a sympathetic nod, his eyes twinkling with a hint of empathy that made Y/N's stomach twist.
With the transaction complete, they turned and walked out of the CVS, the automatic doors sliding shut behind them with a soft whoosh. The night air was cool and crisp, a welcome relief from the stuffy interior of the store.
Y/N took a deep breath, savoring the sensation of the fresh air filling her lungs as she gripped the bag containing the pregnancy tests, the weight of it heavy in her hand.
She looked over at Heather, who gave her a reassuring smile. "Ready?" her friend asked, her voice soft and laced with concern.
Y/N steeled herself, squaring her shoulders as she met Heather's gaze. "not at all," she replied. With a deep breath, she began walking towards her car, Heather by her side.
Y/N sat on the cold tile floor of her bathroom, her knees drawn up to her chest and her heart racing. She had lined up all eleven pregnancy tests on the edge of the bathtub, each one turned face down, waiting for the results that would change her life forever.
The minutes ticked by agonizingly slowly, each second feeling like an eternity. Y/N's mind raced with a million different scenarios, each one more terrifying than the last. What would she do if the tests were positive? How would she tell Jason? Would he even care?
Suddenly, Heather's voice rang out from the other side of the door, startling Y/N from her thoughts.
"Time!" she shouted, her voice muffled by the thick wood.
Y/N inhaled deeply, trying to calm her frayed nerves. She slowly lifted her head from her lap, her muscles aching from sitting in the same position for so long. Using the sink for support, she pulled herself to her feet, her knees suddenly weak and shaky.
With trembling hands, Y/N reached out and flipped over the first test, her heart pounding in her chest. A bold, unmistakable pink plus sign stared back at her, and she felt her heart skip a beat, her breath catching in her throat.
Hands shaking, she moved down the line, flipping over each test one by one. Plus sign after plus sign greeted her, until all eleven tests lay face up on the bathtub, their results crystal clear.
Y/N hiccupped, her hand flying to her mouth as a tear slipped down her cheek. She was pregnant. There was no denying it now - the evidence was right there in front of her, etched in pink and white plastic.
The reality of the situation crashed over her like a tidal wave, and she felt her legs give out from under her as she sank back down to the floor.
Sobs wracked her body, her anguish palpable as she grappled with the devastating truth. She was going to be a mother, and the father of her child was a man who no longer wanted her.
Heather's voice called out again, this time softer and more concerned. "Y/N? Are you okay in there?"
Y/N tried to respond, but the words stuck in her throat, choked by the lump of emotion that had settled there. She heard the doorknob rattle, and then Heather was there, kneeling beside her on the floor and wrapping her in a tight, comforting embrace.
"Oh, honey," Heather murmured, stroking Y/N's hair as she cried. "It's going to be okay. We'll figure this out together, I promise." Heather's voice was soothing, a balm to Y/N's shattered nerves, and she clung to her friend arms.

Wiping Away A Kiss
Tumblr media
Quinn Hughes: He would react with a mix of amusement and affection. He would probably chuckle and playfully swat at your hand, teasingly telling you to stop. At the same time, he would feel a sense of warmth and affection for you, knowing that you are just enjoying your time together. He might even playfully kiss your hand or face to retaliate, just to keep the fun and flirty banter going between you.
Jack Hughes: If you played around and wiped his kisses off with a playful gesture, he would laugh and playfully pretend to be upset. He'd jokingly tell you how it's unfair to mess with his affections and playfully act like he's hurt by the action. He'd probably then laugh about it, pull you close, and give you another big, affectionate kiss.
Luke Hughes: If you playfully wipe off his kisses, he would likely respond by laughing and playfully trying to kiss you again. He may tease you a little bit and act mock offended, then grin and laugh as he playfully tries to lean in for another kiss. He'll playfully joke with you and say something like "What, you don't love my kisses?" or "Am I not the best kisser you've ever had?"
Nico Hischier: When you playfully wipes off his kisses, he'd playfully pout and try to give you more kisses. He might jokingly pretend to be offended, but in reality, he finds it endearing and playful. He'll playfully protest and try to give you more kisses, saying something like, "Hey, you're not allowed to wipe that off! I gave you a kiss, and you're supposed to keep it!"
Timo Meier: If you playfully wiped off his kisses, he would likely respond playfully as well. He might playfully pretend to be hurt and say something like "Oh, you're rejecting my kisses? I see how it is." Or he might try to steal another kiss and say something like "Oh, you thought I didn't see you try to wipe off my love! Well, you underestimated me!" It's all just in good fun and a playful way of showing affection.
Dawson Mercer: If you playfully wiped off his kisses, he might react playfully too, perhaps trying to playfully "steal" another kiss, while smiling and playfully bantering about it. He might tease you a little, or even make a silly pouty face, pretending to be "hurt" or "disappointed" by the gesture. He'll make a lighthearted comment about how he'll have to redouble his efforts to win your heart again.
John Marino: if you playfully wipes off his kisses, he has a good sense of humor and would likely have a big smile on his face. He would find it cute and amusing, and appreciate your playful and affectionate nature. Maybe he would jokingly chase after you and attempt to give you more kisses.
Kirby Dach: He would likely react with a mixture of amusement and affection. He might chuckle and playfully protest, saying something like, "Hey! Don't wipe off my kisses!" He would also appreciate the gesture, finding it sweet and lighthearted. He would likely continue trying to give kisses and playfully bantering with you in a loving and affectionate manner.
Juraj Slafkovsky: If you playfully wipe off his kisses, he would smile and laugh along with you. He would probably playfully pretend to be offended, like pouting or looking sad, even though he knows it's just a joke. Then, he may try to steal another kiss, or playfully tease you about it later
Arber Xhekaj: He would react to you playfully wiping off his kisses with a playful grin and a teasing quip. He would probably say something along the lines of "oh no, you're erasing my kisses! I'll have to give you even more!" He would then playfully chase after you, giving you quick kisses on the cheek or neck as he tries to "retake" his kisses.
Cole Caufield: When you playfully wipes off the kisses he gave you, he can't help but smile and feel a little mischievous. He loves it when you try to tease him like that! It's like a playful game between you. He might even playfully say, "Hey!" or "Don't wipe that off!" in a playful manner. He might even give them a goofy or silly grin, depending on the mood. It's a fun and playful way to show affection and flirt with each other.
Trevor Zegras: When you playfully wipe off his kisses with a cheeky smile, he feels a mix of amusement and affection. He may playfully pout or protest, but deep down, he loves your playful banter. He might even playfully chase after you to plant another kiss, continuing your silly and affectionate moment together.
Jamie Drysdale: Whenever you playfully wipe off his kisses, he usually reacts with a smile and a flirtatious response. He might playfully tease back and ask you why you don't want to be kissed by such a handsome guy, or he might simply lean in again for another kiss and playfully try to make it harder for you to wipe it off.
Matt Rempe: If you playfully wiped off his kisses, he would likely react with amusement and affection. He would probably playfully pretend to be offended, but he would appreciate the playfulness and the affectionate gesture. He might laugh and jokingly try to kiss you again, perhaps getting pretend revenge by grabbing you and kissing you all over your face until you surrender and give in to his affections.

Stay
Tumblr media
After he and his brothers track down and kill the men who murdered their mother, Jack returns home to find you waiting in his room, and he doesn't want you to leave.
Jack Mercer x f!reader
Warnings: mentions of death/murder/trauma, a little homophobia (Bobby refers to reader as Jack's beard), smidge of angst, comfort/fluff 🥺, cursing, a little mention of sex so MINORS DNI
Notes: This is my first try at a Jack imagine. Hope you like it ☺️ and please ignore how bad I am at titles
Tumblr media
Jack's childhood bedroom looked about as you'd expected.
An electric guitar and amp. A stereo with a collection of rock cd's. Band and car posters plastered on the wall. And, of course, a stack of VHS tapes that you probably didn't want to inspect too closely—he'd been a teenage boy the last time he lived there, after all.
You eventually grew tired of looking around and propped his pillow up so you could sit back against his headboard. His bed was a lot more comfortable than the one in the crappy hotel you'd been sleeping in, mostly because it was Jack's, and that meant safety. It meant home.
It was already pretty late when you first arrived at the Mercer home, so you were having a hard time staying awake to greet your boyfriend. Maybe you should've just waited until the morning, but something told you that you might be needed. That was why you'd driven to Detroit with him in the first place instead of making him go on his own. To be there for him during such a devastating time.
You yawned and decided to rest your eyes for just a few minutes, not hearing the sound of the front door, or Bobby speaking a little too loudly as three of the Mercers entered.
"Seriously, Jackie. How much are you paying her?"
"I'm not paying her anything, Bobby." Like always, his brother was just trying to get under his skin. Sometimes, it really fucking bothered him, but after seeing your car parked out front, he just wanted to find you.
He didn't see you in the living room, and just as he realized where you likely were, Sofi came down the stairs and confirmed it. "She's waiting in your room."
"Thanks." Jack took the steps two at a time, passing Sofi as she eagerly went to meet Angel at the bottom of the stairs.
"Hey, she better not think she's staying here! We don't need another La Vida Loca!" Bobby called after Jack, which he ignored, chuckling as Sofi started cursing at the oldest Mercer in Spanish.
Jack opened his bedroom door, cracking a small smile the instant he noticed you dozing off on his bed. He'd had half a mind to have Jerry drop him off at your hotel, but it was late enough that he assumed you were already sound asleep. Now that he knew you weren't even there, he was glad he hadn't gone anyway because he wouldn't have heard the end of it from Bobby.
Your eyes fluttered open as Jack slipped off his leather jacket, tossing it on the chair while kicking off his boots. "Hi," you greeted with a relieved smile.
"Hey, gorgeous," he replied as he climbed into the bed with you.
Even though you'd only been together for about two and a half years, you could read Jack very well. It was clear when he was upset or thinking of painful things, showing right there in his eyes. At that moment, you saw not just the sadness and grief of the last several days, but something else that disturbed him.
You shimmied down the bed a bit and opened your arms, allowing him to practically lay on top of you and rest his head on your chest. "What happened, baby?" You gently embraced him, resting a hand at the nape of his neck.
Jack took a moment to relax in your arms, letting out a sigh as you began to run your fingers through his hair. It had taken some time and a lot of built trust for him to be fully comfortable with that kind of intimacy, and once that happened, he could never get enough. After everything that happened that day, he really fucking needed it.
"I–" He sniffled, blinking back the tears that stung at his eyes. "I saw the security footage. I saw my mom..."
"Oh..." Your heart clenched as you realized what he meant. "I'm so sorry you had to see that, Jack."
"We found the guys that killed her," he said quietly, his fingers toying with the fabric of your shirt. "Angel and Bobby took care of it, but I...I couldn't handle it. I'd never watched anyone die like that." Jack had done some dumbass shit as a kid, but he'd never gotten into some of the more extreme things his brothers—particularly Bobby—did. Not until his mom was taken from him.
The fact that he and his brothers had found and killed their mom's murderers was not a surprise to you. Jack already told you that was the plan, and he'd shared enough about his brothers in the past for you to know he wasn't just talking. While killing was wrong, you had nothing against them getting revenge for Evelyn as long as Jack still came home to you in the end.
"But it's done now, right? You don't have to see that again."
"Nah, it's not over yet. Someone hired them to kill her."
Your hand stopped moving. "What?" Random robbery to contract killing? A pit formed in your stomach at the thought of him getting mixed up with something like that. "Who would want to kill your mom? She was amazing." You'd only ever talked to Evelyn on the phone, but between the lovely conversations and everything Jack ever told you about her, you knew she was a special woman.
"We don't know yet. I'll have to stay a couple more days..." Though it was important to find the truth and get justice, part of him really just wanted to be back home in your little shared apartment. He wanted things to be back to normal—as normal as they could be without Evelyn Mercer in the world.
"I'll add a few days to my hotel," you said as your fingers resumed playing with his hair. The idea of an extended stay didn't bother you at all. You knew he wasn't leaving Detroit until his mom was avenged.
"You should check out and stay here with me." He looked up at you with those soft blue eyes, and you already knew you'd be doing just that with very little convincing. Jack was hard to resist. "I miss you."
"It's not like I'm back in New York." Even though you laughed, you understood exactly what he meant. The cold Michigan nights really made you appreciate sleeping with him. "I miss you, too, but I don't want to intrude on you and your family."
"You're not intruding. You're my family, too," he assured you with a smile, which you returned as you stroked his cheek. "Besides, Angel's busy with Sofi, and Bobby's gonna be annoyed by someone or something no matter what."
You'd only met his oldest brother very briefly, but based on Jack's warnings and Sofi's rant about him when she let you in the house, you didn't doubt that he was a prickly as they come.
Jack watched expectantly, hoping he wouldn't have to spend another night alone. He had a hard time getting rest without you already, but it got worse after finding out his mom died. And he couldn't help the worry that whoever he and his brothers were after could end up targeting those close to them. That you could be hurt or killed just for being in town and being his girl. You'd probably be safer at the Mercer home.
"Okay, I'll check out in the morning."
He let out the breath he'd been holding and moved up your body to place a kiss on your lips. As he pulled back, you gazed up at him with the sweetest eyes he'd ever seen, and he thought for the millionth time how lucky he was to meet you. That you'd happened to end up at one of his shows three years ago was nothing short of a fucking miracle. "I love you."
"Love you, too," you said back without hesitation.
Underneath the rock and roll look, Jack was soft and sweet. You had seen tiny hints of it when you first talked outside of the bar his band had just played in, and he slowly let you in to see the rest. He respected and cared for you in a way that no other guy ever had, he made you feel safe and loved. Knowing you did the same for him after everything he'd been through meant the world.
When he laid back down beside you and pulled the blanket up over your bodies, you quickly turned on your side and snuggled right up to him.
Jack kissed the top of your head and slowly rubbed his hand up and down your back, and that was the last thing you remembered before finally drifting off.
Tumblr media
Waking up was not quite as peaceful as falling asleep had been. A loud banging on the door shocked you both awake just in time to hear, "Rise and shine, Princess! We got shit to do today!"
Jack groaned and buried his face in your chest again. Even with Bobby's interruption, he really didn't want to move. After all, that was his second favorite spot to put his face. You were just about as eager to get up as he was, realizing just how much you'd needed this the last few days.
"What a charming wake up call," you said with a laugh, your voice rough from sleep. Considering how he'd referred to you as Jack's beard the first time you met, and at their own mother's funeral no less, a lack of tact seemed to be Bobby's thing.
"You get used to it," he mumbled into your t-shirt. "Unless you changed your mind about staying..."
"Nope." You reluctantly threw the blanket off and untangled yourself from him, taking a glance at your watch. "We've got plenty of time for breakfast, but I do need to be at the hotel by 9:30 to get my things."
Once you stretched and finally got out of bed, Jack sat up and scrubbed his hand over his face, his hair sticking up even more than usual. You went over to his jacket to fish his zippo and the pack of cigarettes out of the pocket and toss them over to him.
"Thanks," Jack said before placing a cigarette between his lips and lighting it up. He took a drag and watched amused as you slipped your shoes on and fixed yourself up a bit because, unlike him, you had a problem with looking like you'd just rolled out of bed.
Satisfied, you leaned down and tenderly cupped his jaw so you could press a kiss to his forehead. "See you downstairs, baby."
Jack's cheeks heated up at the sweet affection, and he blew out a cloud of smoke as you walked away with a sway of your hips.
Yeah, he was lucky as hell.

December 31, 2023
It was almost New Years in New york, it was almost 2024. Cynthia and Luke decided to leave the party earlier that they were at, with most of the devils players and their significant others.
The two both not the biggest party people and really they just wanted to be together alone cuddled up on new years. They both snuck out of the party only letting Jack where they were going.
Luke changed out of his black button up shirt and white pants with a red jacket, and changed into a pair of grey sweatpants and a black thermal, he sat down on the bed waiting for Cynthia to come out of her closet.
Cynthia walked out wearing a pair of Luke’s black sweatpants and a red crew neck she also took from Luke. She walked over to her bed holding a hand out for Luke, who quickly grabbed it and let Cynthia pull him up. The two walked over to the couch on the patio and turned the heater on and plopped down next to each other cuddling under the blanket.
Cynthia rested her head on Luke’s chest as he wrapped his arms around her and kissed the side of her head.
They could hear the countdown from other people and smiled as the ball dropped and fireworks shot off in many locations.
It was officially 2024.
“Happy new years my love.” Luke soflty spoke as he they pulled away from their first new years kiss, the first of many.
“Happy new years.” Cynthia smiled back nudging her nose to his nose.

Cynthia was putting in her earrings getting ready for dinner to see her families as tomorrow was the Devils vs Canucks and was suppose to be the second time the three of the brothers played each other but Jack got hurt in the game then night before so they were not sure he was gonna be playing but of course the Hughes and her family were all in town for the game, going to a dinner before the game to catch up.
“Lu could you help me when you’re done.” Cynthia called out towards the bathroom where Luke was getting ready in the bathroom.
“Yeah one sec!” Luke called back through the door having taken a shower to get ready, he brushed a hand through his freshly dried curls and walking out the bathroom pausing at the doorway swallowing heavily as he started at his girlfriend, the black long sleeve knitted backless dress that went all the way to her ankles, her perfectly curled hair, the red dangly crystal earrings that he got her.
Luke shook his head walking over to her and grabbing her hand and spinning her to him, “You look absolutely beautiful baby.” Luke grinned down at his favorite girl giving her a kiss on the forehead, Her red lips smiled up at him.
“Thank you!” Cynthia smiled looking up at him admiring the all black fit, black dress pants with a black button up that has the top bottom un done, “You look handsome.” Cynthia smiled at the red tint that was on Luke’s cheek and the kiss he gave her on her forehead before turning around and picking up her gold pendent that Luke gave that is engraved on the inside with the L, she handed it to Luke brushing her hair over one shoulder letting Luke gently put it around her neck and clasping it, kissing her neck when he was finished.
Cynthia smiled turning around kissing his cheek before pulling back and giggling slightly seeing her red lip stick transfer to his cheek. Luke looked down at her fondly, “What baby?”
“My lipstick is on your cheek.” Cynthia smiled going to wipe it off when Luke gently grabbed her hand stopping her from doing so.
“Don’t please.” Luke pouted at her liking the thought of her leaving a mark everyone can see.
Cynthia just fondly nodded before turning away and picking up her red heels she headed to the bench at the end of the bed sitting down and before she had a chance to put on her heels Luke kneeled down in front of her gently sliding on her red heels.
Cynthia grabbed his hands when he was done, “Thank you my love.”
“Of course.” Luke smiled getting up and gently pulling her up with him, Cynthia still 5 inches shorter than him even with heels on, he grabbed her hand stopping at the dresser she was getting ready and grabbed Cynthia’s phone and stop them in front of the mirror that is hanging above the dresser, he grabbed his phone from his pocket turning it on seeing the lock screen of a photo of Cynthia smiling at him cuddled up in bed, he opened the camera and pulled Cynthia towards him wrapping his arm against her waist as he hands rested on his chest smiling at the mirror. Luke took the mirror photo smiling before turning his phone off and grabbing Cynthia’s phone and the red lipstick slipping them into his pockets knowing Cynthia had never liked carrying bags.
They headed to the front door where their jackets were hanging, as it snowing outside, Luke helped her put on her red trench coat and he slipped on his black one. They walked hand in hand into the elevators and then down through the apartment building towards the front entrance where the valet was outside and where Jack was meeting them.
Jack looked up at the sound of whistle knowing who it is, He looked up and smiled at the two seeing how much happier they both have seemed since they got approval from him, Jack stood up slid his phone in his all black suit pocket before buttoning his black winter coat just as the two got to him.
“You look beautiful Cece.” Jack smiled kissing his best friends cheek.
“Thanks Jacky.” Cynthia smiled back squeezing his hand.
“What i don’t look good rowdy.” Luke grinned teasing his brother resting his arm on Cynthia’s waist.
“No.” Jack deadpanned smirking at the glare he got from his little brother, before Luke could say anything back as they heard the valet called their name.
The three headed over Luke grabbing the keys from the employee, walking to the car opening the passenger seat for Cynthia and watching her get in before gently shutting it, as Jack slid in the back seat and Luke walked around to the driver seat.
Luke began the drive to the restaurant and listened to Jack and Cynthia gossip the whole drive, they pulled up a few minutes later at the restaurant that their meeting everyone and looked and saw they are few minutes late.
“We’re never gonna hear the end of it because we’re late.” Jack groaned knowing that the three of them especially Jack are always late and their families always tease them.
“Nope.” Cynthia pursed her lips shaking her head.
Luke got out of the car first walking around opening the door for Cynthia seeing the thankful look she gave him and winked in response. They walked up towards the fancier restaurant and headed through the doors were an employee was waiting, The employee looked up at the sound of the door closing, “Name?”
“Hughes.” Jack answered putting his hands in his pockets.
“Right this way.” The employee gestures for them to follow them, Jack followed first with Luke and Cynthia behind him, Luke rested his hand on her lower back as they walked across the restaurant to a private section they could see their family all around a table with three seats open.
“Oh my darlings.” Anna looked up gasping in delight, grinning she got up quickly pulling all three into a group hug, she pulled back cupping her daughter’s face, “Oh Thia you’re glowing my love.” Cynthia smiled kissing her mothers cheeks.
Ellen got up quickly pulling her boys into a tight hug feeling both of them hold her back just as tightly, She cupped both of their cheeks looking at any differences she may have missed the last few weeks.
“Hi dad.” Cynthia grinned feeling as her dad walked over to her pulling her into a tight hug.
“Hello darling.” Christopher kissed the top of her head, holding his daughter a little longer.
Jim held his two sons in a tight hug before moving out of the way letting his two younger sons quickly pull Quinn in a hug, who laughed and tightly hugged his little brothers back.
Ellen walked over to her favorite girl, “My darling girl.” Ellen smiled pulling her into a gently hug.
“Hi mama el.” Cynthia smiled into the hug hugging her second mother.
“Darling you are beautiful.” Ellen smiled holding her face in her hands, never understanding how her favorite girl only gets more and more beautiful as she grows.
“Thank you.” Cynthia felt her cheeks grow hot having always looked up to Ellen and her mother, so compliments from the two of them always felt the most heartwarming.
Jim pulled Cynthia into a gentle hug before Quinn interrupted them.
“Emmie.” Quinn smiled standing behind his favorite sibling, having called her Emmie since they found her birth stone is an emerald and her eyes are green.
Cynthia face lifted into a bigger smile hearing one of her most favorite voices she quickly turned around throwing her self into his arms, relaxing at the protective comfort Quinn has always brought her.
Quinn quietly chuckled holding her close, “I missed you.” Quinn leaned down slightly in the hug whispering.
“I missed you too quinny.” Cynthia tightened her hold on him, having missed him as their weekly face times aren’t nearly enough.
The two pulled apart and saw everyone else finished seeing each other and were sitting back down. On one side of the table were the parents and then Jack sat at the end of one side of the table and Luke on the other end. Cynthia quickly sat in the empty next to Luke flashing him a quick smile feeling his hand reach for hers and Quinn slid into the spot he was already sitting, now sitting between Cynthia and Jack.
Quinn raised a slight brow looking over and seeing Luke and Cynthia quietly whispering to each other while their smiles were both soft and fond towards each other.
“So am i the last one to figure that out.” Jack leaned towards his brother his eyes going to the Cynthia and Luke who were already in their own little world.
Quinn turned his head towards Jack, “You finally figured it out.” Quinn deadpanned getting a sassy eye roll in reply, “Yeah you are it’s been obvious for years.”
“Yeah i’m getting that now.” Jack sassed back, He looked over seeing Luke whisper something in Cynthia’s ear that made pink rush to her cheeks and laugh fall from her lips, Jack didn’t want to know what just came out of his little brothers mouth but he watched the soft and loving look that covered Luke’s face as he watch Cynthia laugh because of him.
Luke rested his hand on her thigh as her hand covered his, Luke and Cynthia shared a look and she nodded towards him and he shook his head with a fond smile.
Luke cleared his throat gaining the attention of the table after they had all eaten dinner already and were ordering dessert, “Jj and I have something to tell all of you.” He looked around the table as Cynthia squeezed his hand.
“We’re dating.” Cynthia blurted out to their families.
Ana and Ellen both gasped excitedly and were beaming happily as they both asked a lot of questions.
Christopher smirked looking at his best friend, Jim groaned slighty but pulled out bills from his wallet putting them into Christopher’s hand.
“Wait wait you bet on us!” Cynthia exclaimed looking shocked at her dad and godfather.
“It was easy money.” Christopher chuckled at his daughter.
“Rude.” Cynthia playfully glared back.
“It’s about time.” Quinn teasingly smirked at the two, before noticing something on Luke’s cheek and his smirk grew, “Hey Moose you’ve got a little something right there.” Quinn gestured to his cheek.
Luke smirked backed and nonchalantly shrugged his shoulder letting his arm drape around Cynthia’s chair, “I know.” Luke proudly had the red lipstick kiss on his cheek.
“I see you finally took my advice.” Ellen teasingly told Cynthia with a fond smile glad the two are finally together.
Ellen was the one Cynthia went to with eveything she felt for Luke and helped her through her feelings.
“It was about time.” Cynthia blushed shrugging slightly, she’s been in love with Luke for a line time and she didn’t want to admit it for a while but she couldn’t run from her feelings any longer.

Cynthia zipped up her jacket and smiling looking at the reflection, the jacket was a black puffer with Luke’s number over her heart, something that the all the Wag’s have.
Luke and Cynthia had quietly asked one of the Wag’s to get a jacket with Luke’s number so she should could wear to the family skate but also to kinda tell the team that they are together.
Cynthia slipped on her 43 beanie and grabbed her phone and keys.
She walked out of her apartment and took the elevator down the parking garage, she hoped into the car and drove to Jack and Luke’s apartment.
She waited in the car until she heard the front and back door opened, she looked over smiling seeing Ellen in the front seat and Jim in the back, She leaned over kissing Ellen’s cheek and smiled through the mirror at Jim.
“It’s very cute.” Ellen smiled a small teasing smile at her future daughter in law looking at her jacket and beanie.
“Isn’t it!” Cynthia smiled happily, Luke and her have both been excited for her to wear the jacket.
Cynthia drove them to the MetLife stadium and pulled into the parking lot, the three walked through the stadium and towards where the rink was place they could see a lot of the other families and friends there too and the team seemed to just be finishing the practice.
Cynthia, Ellen and Jim found a bench and all started putting on their ice skates and got onto the ice, they saw Jack and Luke taking photos with some of their teammates and skated over to them.
“CeCe!” Jack grinned quickly pulling his best friend into a hug, “Nice jacket.” Jack whispered to her pulling back and smirking at her.
“Hello to you to Jacky.” Cynthia snarked back.
Luke smiled softly seeing her wearing his number he skated around her and wrapped an arm around her waist, he pressed a kiss to the side of her head.
“Wait! Did you actually get the girl Rusty?” Dawson teased his teammate seeing Luke and Cynthia be so close and Cynthia wearing the Wag jacket.
“I did.” Luke proudly smiled, he looked down at her with a soft eyes.
“Woah i thought you were going to be pinning after Cynthia for ever.” Alex chuckled having heard one to many times Luke talking about Cynthia.
A photographer came up to take a photo of the Hughes family and Cynthia went to move out of the way and Luke tightened his grip on her waist, Jack held onto her arm, Jim gave her a stern look and Ellen, “Where do you think you are going Cynthia Jade you are family.” Ellen gave her a stern look making her nod and smile but she stayed tucked under Luke’s arm and put her other arm around Jack.
The second the photo was down Jim and Ellen skated away to go talk to one of their friends and Jack skated away seeing his girlfriend.
Cynthia looked up at the boyfriend and couldn’t help but laugh, “Oh Lukey.”
“What?” Luke looked down at her with a silly smile, his hands resting on her waist.
“You look like a Dr Seuss." Cynthia laugher again but reached up and fixed his beanie to look better on his head, "There perfect." She softly caressed his face before letting her hands rest on his arms.
“Thank you baby.” He leaned down pressing a kiss to her cheek before pulling her and starting to skate.
Cynthia leaned into Luke as they started to skate around together, something they have done a million times together before.

Summary: Caught between a secret crush and family loyalty, she shares an undeniable, electric connection with his best friend, Jack Hughes. Haunted by her feelings and the fear of Lee's reaction, Y/N finds solace in a cozy girls' night where her friends encourage her to take a chance on love.
word count - 3184
...
The music thumped through the crowded living room, the bass reverberating off the walls and shaking the floor beneath your feet. Partygoers spilled out into every available space, red solo cups clutched in their hands as they swayed to the rhythm of the beat.
It was your twin brother Lee's birthday bash, a wild celebration that would seamlessly transition into yours once the clock struck midnight.
Red and purple lights flashed in sync with the music, casting colorful shadows over the throng of people. The air was thick with the scent of beer and sweat, slowly beginning to choke you.
The living room was a chaotic blend of laughter, shouted conversations, and the clinking of cups, with decorations hastily thrown together to give the place a festive feel.
As much as you wanted to enjoy this moment for your brother, you couldn't. The music, the cake your friends had painstakingly made, the thoughtful gifts scattered across a table – none of it could lift the heavy weight in your heart. You were drowning in the secret you'd been carrying for months, maybe even years.
Through the haze of bodies and strobe lights, your gaze locked with a pair of striking blue eyes. Jack Hughes, Lee's best friend and the object of your forbidden affection, stared back at you intensely from across the room.
The connection between you two was electric, undeniable, a connection girls would kill for – but also utterly wrong. You knew his fan girls would kill for that look, that moment alone with him.
You quickly averted your eyes, guilt twisting in your gut.
The pulsating energy of the party seemed to mock your inner turmoil, each beat of the music hammering home the impossibility of your feelings. You took a sip from your cup, hoping the alcohol might dull the ache, but it only served to remind you of the secret you could never share.
As the minutes ticked down to midnight, the anticipation in the room grew. People began to chant Lee's name, the excitement palpable. But all you could think about was the man standing just a few feet away, and the forbidden connection that both thrilled and tormented you.
Instead of suffering in the heat of his presence, you made your way to the kitchen for a refill, snippets of conversation floated past you. But one hushed whisper from Lee's girlfriend made you freeze in your tracks.
"Mhmm yeah I know right!!” she whisper-shouted. “But did you hear? Jack's seeing someone on the side that no one knows about," she murmured conspiratorially to her wide-eyed friend. "But she came and told me. She’s my friend’s cousin. Apparently, he's been sneaking around with her for weeks now."
Your blood ran cold as the words sank in and your breath hitched as you tried to gasp for air but it ceased to work. The room seemed to tilt around you. Jack was cheating?
But how could that be, when just last night he'd held you in his arms and promised that you two would find a way to tell your brother about your secret relationship?
Suddenly, you felt a hand on your shoulder. You whirled around to see Jack standing there, his expression unreadable.
"We need to talk," he said quietly, urgently. "Meet me upstairs in five minutes."
With that, he disappeared into the crowd, leaving you reeling. Your mind raced as you tried to make sense of it all. What the fuck was going on?
Trembling slightly, you ascended the stairs, navigating each step slowly on your wobbly legs. You had a sinking feeling that whatever awaited you in the room above would change everything - for better or for worse. The only question was, were you ready to face the truth?
5 months prior…
You'd known Jack since childhood, as he and your brother Lee had been inseparable since kindergarten. He was the epitome of popularity in high school.
His easygoing charm and infectious laugh made him a magnet for attention, and he reveled in teasing you relentlessly about the most trivial matters. You had always brushed off his playful flirting, determined not to give him the satisfaction of seeing you flustered, but it wasn't until sophomore year that you started seeing him differently.
It happened gradually at first - lingering glances across the cafeteria, a flutter in your stomach whenever he flashed that crooked grin. But by junior prom, you were head over heels.
You could still remember that night vividly. Jack had shown up at your door looking unfairly gorgeous in his tailored suit, ready to pick up Lee for their double date.
When his eyes met yours, time seemed to slow. "Wow, Y/N," he'd said softly, his gaze raking over your dress appreciatively. "You look beautiful."
Your cheeks had flushed scarlet at the compliment, and in that moment, you knew you were a goner. As Jack and Lee posed for photos, laughing and joking around, you couldn't tear your eyes away from the tall, athletic figure of your brother's best friend.
You loved the way his dark hair flopped over his forehead boyishly, the way his blue eyes sparkled with mischief and intelligence. He was charming and quick-witted, always ready with a joke or a sarcastic quip. But beneath that cocky exterior, you sensed a deep loyalty, a steadfast devotion to those he cared about.
That summer, you found yourself spending more and more time with Jack and Lee, the three of you lounging by the pool or goofing off playing video games.
Every accidental brush of Jack's hand against yours set your skin on fire. You lived for those little moments - a shared inside joke, a knowing glance when Lee said something ridiculous.
Now you found yourself engrossed in videos on your phone as you lay on your side in your bedroom. You felt the weight of the bed shift as it dipped on the other side and a pair of strong arms snaked around your waist, a low, husky voice whispered in your ear, “Miss me?”
Your heart skipped a beat as you recognized the familiar timbre. “Definitely not,” you scoffed, tossing your phone onto the bed. “Did you need something, or are you just here to bother me with your existence?”
Jack chuckled softly, his breath warm on your neck. “You're way too serious,” he whispered, nuzzling his head into the crook of your neck and pulling you closer. “You need to relax once in a while, you know...”
“God Jack, you're such a fuckboy,” you muttered, voice strained as you weakly fought against his hold, worming your way off your side.
He laughed softly, tightening his grip on your waist. “Aww, don't say that like it's a bad thing,” he whispered, planting a kiss on your forehead. Over the years you had grown used to Jacks subtle affection, but that didn’t help the skip of your heart anytime he came with an inch of you.
“Is it *bad* for me to want to hold my best friend's sister?” His words were laced with a playful, almost teasing tone, but his touch was anything but playful.
It was possessive, almost desperate, and it sent shivers down your spine. “Depends on what your intentions are,” you replied curtly, trying to maintain what composure you had left. “You know we're never gonna happen, right? Can't ever and won't ever.”
You knew you were pushing him away but couldn't help it; the thought of anything more than friendship with him felt wrong, forbidden.
Jack shrugged, “you never know,” he whispered, his voice a husky murmur against your skin. “There could always be a chance...”
His words were a dangerous siren song, tempting with a future you knew you couldn't have. “Trust me, I know Jack.” You whispered back, heart thrumming against its cage like a frantic drum. The sound of your racing heartbeat was a betrayal, a secret you feared Jack would overhear.
“You're nervous,” he whispered against your cheek. “I can hear and feel your heart, it’s so loud y/n… am I making you nervous?”
Panic surged through you at his words and suddenly you felt the need to get away. “oh my god, do you hear that? I think my brother's calling me,” you said placing your hand against your ear, dramatically looking towards the door as if searching for his voice. You finally broke free from his hold.
You readjusted your clothes, trying to regain your composure and walked towards the door, turning back to look at Jack with a forced smile. “Come on!”
“But we were just getting to the exciting part,” he whines, adjusting himself into a seated position. An idea sparks into his mind, and he proposed, “Why don't you go check on your brother while I stay in your room? When you're ready, come fetch me.”
He gave you a sly grin, raising his eyebrows suggestively while he relaxed himself against the headboard.
“No way,” you protest, marching towards jack and firmly grasping his strong, muscular arm. “Let's go.” Undeterred, he readily follows your lead, allowing you to pull Jack to his feet.
“Alright then, I suppose you're just not in the mood for some playful banter,” He say with a shrug, trailing behind you as you exit your room.
As you both made your way down the stairs, you can't help but be drawn to the pictures of Lee and you that adorn the walls. Each one brings back a flood of memories, creating a timeline of your life, that is both heartwarming and bittersweet.
Your eyes come to a stop on a black and white photo of Jack and yourself from three years ago, taken in the very room upstairs on senior prom night.
Jack takes note of you pausing beside him, his eyes following yours to the photo. A small smile tugs at the corners of jack’s mouth as he take in the sight of you both looking so young and carefree. “Ah, I remember that night...” jack says softly, laughing softly. “God, you were a pain in the ass...' he teased, his voice full of affection.
“Like you were any better,” you shoot back, nudging your arm playfully.
Jack laughed, unable to deny the truth in your words. “Hey, at least I didn't whine and complain the whole time. You promised me that if I went to this party with you that you wouldn't complain, but of course you did...” he trailed off, recalling the events of that night.
You pause, mock-offended at his accusation. "Me? Complain? Never! I was just expressing my opinions on the music selection. There's a difference, you know," you say, pretending to be scandalized.
"And it's not my fault your fan girls kept stepping on my feet,” you say with a mock glare. “What even happened to that one girl? Weren't you supposed to go to prom with her that night?”
“You mean Jennifer? It seems like a lifetime ago now.” Jack raises an eyebrow and shrugs. “Yeah, I was supposed to go to prom with her, but she was a bore. I didn’t plan on going to prom with her to begin with.” He admits.
“Being with her felt... forced. It didn't feel right. She found herself a different guy to go with anyway." He shrugs again, not bothered in the least. “But what about you? Who were you going to go with, huh?”
You look away sheepishly. “You’re the only person I asked.”
Jack raised his eyebrows, a flicker of surprise in those azure eyes. But then he smiled softly, feeling a warmth in his heart at your words. "Did you secretly have a crush on me back then or something?" he teases, with a hearty laugh.
“In your dreams.” You scoff, pushing his shoulder before continuing down the stairs.
He catches you off guard by wrapping his arms around your shoulders and pulling you close, smiling brightly at you. “Maybe dreams do come true, you know?” he whispers, "Don't worry, it's okay to admit it. You can't resist this face," jack jested, striking a ridiculously cheesy model pose.
“We could never do that, Jack.” You sigh.
“Yeah yeah... but…” he trails off as you lean your head onto his shoulder, his arms tightening their grip around you.  He was silent for a moment before he started again. “You feel that?” he whispers, referring to how perfectly your bodies fit together. “It feels like we’re made for each other.”
“Don’t say stuff like that.” You turn in his arms, now facing him.
Jack tilts his head slightly, looking at you. “And why can’t I?” he asks, a sly smile on his face. “You don’t feel it too? That there’s definitely some sparks between us?”
He reaches up, gently cupping your face while he presses his forehead to yours, your lips just barely touching. The warmth of his skin and the scent of his cologne envelop you, creating a bubble of intimacy.
You say nothing, just continue staring into his eyes, your thoughts a whirlpool of confusion and desire. “We were supposed to be down there 10 minutes ago, Jack. Let’s go.”
Jack rolls his eyes slightly, looking back at the photograph before sighing in defeat. “Fine, let’s go then.” the creak of the wooden steps underfoot and the distant hum of conversation from the living room growing louder. The smell of freshly baked cookies wafts from the kitchen, mingling with the tang of lemon cleaning solution.
You glance around the living room, searching for your brother's watchful eyes before allowing Jack to veer into the living room. The room is a burst of activity: Lee's friends scream in triumph as they win another round of NHL, their cheers filling the space with infectious energy.
The flicker of the TV screen casts a blueish glow across their faces. Lee huffs deeply, turning his disappointed gaze to Jack as he plops onto the couch, the leather squeaking beneath him.
Jack laughs softly, joining his friend on the couch. “You’re just making it easy at this point,” he chuckles, shaking his head mockingly. The warmth of the room, filled with the scent of popcorn and the underlying hint of teenage sweat, contrasts sharply with the cool leather of the couch.
“I get why you’re losing though; you have other things on your mind…” Jack tilts his head slightly as he speaks, shooting a glance in your direction unbeknownst to you, his eyes twinkling with a mix of teasing and unspoken affection.
The following weekend, snow fell in thick, lazy flakes, covering the world in a pristine white blanket. Inside, the warmth from the fireplace filled the room, the crackling flames casting a cozy glow that softened the edges of your living room.
Your three closest friends trickled in, each carrying trays of colorful cocktails, the drinks decorated with festive garnishes. Laughter and chatter filled the air as they set the trays on the coffee table, their cheeks rosy from the cold.
"Y/N, this place looks amazing," Sophie exclaimed, shrugging off her coat and hanging it by the door. "And I needed this so much. Work has been a nightmare."
"Tell me about it," Ava chimed in, plopping down on the couch and grabbing a cocktail. "I feel like I haven't slept in days. But tonight, it's all about us."
Mia, the last to arrive, brought a tray of her famous spiked hot chocolate. "Who needs a beach vacation when you have a fireplace and booze?" she joked, handing you a steaming mug.
Jersey Shore played in the background, a comforting, familiar noise that accompanied your weekly girls' night ritual. The girls settled in, curling up on the couch and floor, the room filled with the scent of pine and cinnamon from the candles you had lit.
"So, what’s the latest?" Sophie asked, taking a sip of her cocktail and looking around expectantly. "I feel like I haven’t seen you guys in forever."
Ava leaned forward, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Okay, you guys are not going to believe what happened at work this week. So, you know that cute new guy in accounting? Well, apparently he's been asking about me!"
Sophie gasped, clasping her hands together. "No way! Tell us everything!"
As Ava launched into a detailed account of her office flirtation, complete with dramatic reenactments, you found yourself relaxing, the warmth of the fire and the camaraderie of your friends soothing the turmoil inside you. For the first time in days, you allowed yourself to enjoy the moment, sipping your wine and laughing along with the girls.
But just as Ava was getting to the juicy part, Mia turned to you with a mischievous grin. "Okay, enough about Ava's love life. Y/N, we need to talk about you and Jack!"
You nearly choked on your drink, feeling your cheeks heat up. "What? There's nothing to talk about," you protested weakly. Sophie rolled her eyes.
"Oh please, you've been crushing on him since high school. It's so obvious. Why haven’t you made a move?”
"Yeah, remember junior prom?" Ava chimed in. "You couldn't take your eyes off him all night. I thought you were going to combust when he told you that you looked beautiful!"
You buried your face in your hands, groaning. "Ugh, don't remind me. I was so awkward back then."
Mia reached over and squeezed your shoulder. "Hey, we've all been there. But seriously, what's stopping you from going for it now? You're both single, you have history... it could be epic!"
You sighed, swirling the wine in your glass. "It’s not that simple. Lee would be so angry if he found out. Jack is his best friend. I don’t want Jack to have to deal with that kind of fallout. And besides, I don’t even know if he likes me the way I like him."
Sophie leaned forward, her expression softening. "But what if things went right? You can't let fear hold you back forever, Y/N. Sometimes you just have to take a chance on love."
The girls exchanged looks before she started again. "Y/N, come on," Sophie said, rolling her eyes. "Any guy would be falling at your feet if you wanted them to. Jack is no exception."
"Yeah," Ava agreed, "and from the way Jack looks at you when he thinks no one's watching? I'd say there's definitely some unfinished business there."
Your heart fluttered at the thought. Could they be right? Was it possible that Jack felt the same way after all these years?
As if reading your mind, Mia grinned. "I think it's time for Operation Seduce Jack Hughes. Who's with me?"
The girls cheered, clinking their glasses together. You couldn't help but laugh, feeling a rush of affection for your ridiculous, wonderful friends. "Alright, alright," you said, holding up your hands in mock surrender. "I’ll think about it, okay?"
Maybe it was the wine, or maybe it was the giddy thrill of possibility, but in that moment, anything seemed possible. Even a happily ever after with the boy you'd loved for as long as you could remember.

The bright lights of the interview room felt almost blinding as Y/N sat between Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, with Luke Hughes beside them. They were fresh off a big win, and the excitement in the air was palpable. Jack was animated, cracking jokes and making faces to keep Y/N laughing, but the moment the interviewer walked in, the tone shifted.
“Alright, everyone,” the interviewer said with a confident smile. “Let’s talk to the young star here. Y/N, how does it feel to be the youngest player on a team full of experienced guys? Must be tough keeping up, huh?”
Y/N forced a smile, her heart racing. “I just focus on my game and work hard like everyone else.”
The interviewer smirked, leaning forward as if he had a juicy tidbit to uncover. “Sure, but let’s be honest. Do you think you’d be here without some... connections? There are rumors you might have, well, charmed your way onto the team.”
The air in the room thickened. Jack’s expression darkened immediately, and Nico's jaw clenched. Luke’s protective instincts flared as he shot a glance at Y/N, who remained composed. “I’ve earned my spot through hard work and dedication,” she said firmly, though she felt the sting of the insinuation.
The interviewer continued, undeterred. “Come on, it’s a competitive sport. Some might say a pretty face can go a long way in the locker room.”
Jack’s eyes flared with anger. “That’s not how it works. Y/N is here because she deserves to be, not because of anything else,” he snapped, his voice rising.
“Yeah, let’s keep it professional,” Nico added, glaring at the interviewer. “Y/N has shown more talent and determination than many on this team.”
But the interviewer only laughed dismissively. “Right, right. But it’s an interesting angle, don’t you think? I’m just trying to get the real story.”
The tension hung heavy as Y/N forced herself to smile, even as her heart sank. “I’m just grateful to be part of the team,” she said, her voice steady despite the tumult of emotions within her.
The interview wrapped up, and Y/N felt the weight of their protectiveness beside her. Yet, as soon as she stepped away, the façade began to crumble. In the safety of her room, the tears she had held back flooded out, muffling her cries with a pillow.
~~
A knock sounded through the room and Y/N wiped her tears hastily before opening the door, revealing Luke, Jack, and Nico standing there with concern etched across their faces.
“Hey, Y/N,” Luke said softly, stepping inside. “We wanted to see how you’re holding up.”
Jack and Nico followed closely, and the moment they were in, the tension in the room shifted. Jack leaned against the wall, arms crossed, while Nico took a seat at the edge of her bed, his expression serious.
“That guy had no right to say what he did,” Nico said, his voice steady. “I don’t care how big the network is; no one gets to treat you like that.”
Y/N felt warmth in her chest at their concern, but the hurt lingered. “I tried to stay strong during the interview. I didn’t want to show that it affected me.”
“You shouldn’t have to pretend with us,” Jack said, his tone softening. “You’re part of this family, and we’re here to support you.”
Before Y/N could respond, her phone buzzed with messages from Matt, Trevor, and Quinn checking in.
Matt: Hey, just heard about the interview. You good?
Trevor: That interviewer was out of line. You’re way too talented to let anyone bring you down like that.
Quinn: Just wanted to check in. You can always talk to us, ok?
Feeling a rush of emotion, Y/N responded quickly, trying to reassure them. Y/N: Thanks, guys! I’m okay, really. Just a bit tired.
Just then, there was a knock at the door. Y/N opened it to find Matt standing there, a concerned expression on his face, holding a bag of snacks.
“Hey, I came as soon as I heard,” he said, stepping inside. “I thought you might want some company.”
“Matt, you didn’t have to—” she started, but he waved her off.
“Of course I did. You’re one of us, and I couldn’t just sit back and let you deal with this alone.” He looked at her, his eyes warm and reassuring. “How are you really feeling?”
Y/N sighed, rubbing her eyes. “I just didn’t expect to be affected by that interview. I thought I was tougher than that.”
“You are tough,” Matt insisted, his voice steady. “But it’s okay to feel hurt. What that guy said was completely out of line. You work hard and deserve to be treated with respect.”
“Yeah, but I tried to act like it didn’t bother me,” she admitted. “I didn’t want to show weakness in front of anyone, especially the boys.”
“Showing emotion isn’t weakness,” Jack chimed in, stepping closer. “We’re all here for you, no matter what. You don’t have to hide anything from us.”
“You know we’ve got your back,” Luke added, leaning against the desk. “You’re family, Y/N.”
As if on cue, Y/N felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes. “I just feel like I have to prove myself all the time.”
“You don’t have to prove anything to anyone,” Matt said firmly. “You’re already proving it on the ice. We all see how hard you work, and you’ve earned your spot. Don’t let someone’s ignorance change how you see yourself.”
Y/N took a deep breath, letting his words sink in. “Thanks, Matt. It really helps to hear that.”
Matt grinned and reached into the bag. “Let’s do something fun to take your mind off it. I brought snacks, and we can watch a movie or play a game—whatever you want.”
“Movie sounds good,” Y/N said, feeling grateful for the distraction.
As they settled in, Jack pulled out his phone, scrolling through social media. “I can’t believe people would say things like that. It’s ridiculous.”
“Seriously,” Nico said, shaking his head. “We know how hard you work. Don’t let some clueless interviewer make you doubt yourself.”
Matt, who was setting up the snacks, added, “Exactly. We’re all proud of you. If that guy thinks he can take you down, he’s got another thing coming.”
Y/N felt a swell of gratitude for her friends. “I really appreciate this. I didn’t expect to feel so… hurt after it all.”
“You should never feel alone in this,” Luke said softly. “We’re always here for you.”
As they started the movie, Y/N felt the overwhelming love from her teammates lift some of the weight off her shoulders. Surrounded by their laughter and camaraderie, she realized that no matter the challenges she faced, she had a family who would always stand by her side.

10:00am
The doctor's voice cuts through the heavy silence, their tone professional yet laced with a hint of warmth. "While we wait for the results, can you tell me the date of your last menstrual period and any potential dates of conception?"
Y/N takes a deep, steadying breath, her mind instantly transported back to the haunting echoes of her mother's cruel words. The memories feel so visceral, as if the scenes are playing out before her eyes once more.
"I wish one day, you could see why I raised you the way I did. You're so weak, gullible, and always so goddamn sensitive. It's pathetic, really." Her mother's voice drips with disdain, the familiar sting of her judgement cutting deep.
Y/N can practically feel the weight of her mother's disapproving stare, the contempt burning in her eyes. "Just like your useless father, y/n. You've never been and will never be good enough, not like me."
"You will need me one day, when you have a baby, you're gonna wish I was the one there helping you, holding your hand. But I won't be, because you've always been a disappointment, a burden I never wanted." The thought of facing motherhood without the unwavering support she so desperately craves fills Y/N with dread.
"I hate you, y/n, and I wish I would've gotten rid of you when I had the chance. I never regretted anything more than letting your useless father talk me into keeping you. I lost my whole life raising you - I slaved and sold myself to put food on the table, all for you ungrateful little shits." The bitterness in her mother's voice is palpable, a raw wound that has never fully healed.
Forcing the memories to the back of her mind, Y/N provides the doctor with the requested information to the best of her recollection.
A knot forms in her stomach as the details flow from her lips, a painful reminder of the intimate moments with Jason - moments that had once filled her with such joy and hope, but now only serve to heighten her anxiety.
The doctor nods, jotting down the notes on their clipboard. They continue the conversation, their tone gentle and understanding, offering Y/N a sense of comfort in the midst of the emotional turmoil.
After what feels like an eternity, they excuse themselves to check on the test results. The room falls silent, save for the ticking of the clock – each second a countdown to the life-changing news that awaits Y/N.
When the doctor returns, they have a file in hand. Taking a seat beside Y/N, they meet her gaze, their expression softening with a warmth that puts her at ease, even as her heart races in anticipation.
"Y/N," they begin gently, their voice filled with empathy, "the urine test came back positive for hCG. Congratulations, you're pregnant." The doctor pauses, studying Y/N's face for a moment before continuing. "I understand this may be an overwhelming time, but I want you to know that we're here to support you every step of the way."
Y/N feels her breath catch in her throat, the news hitting her like a physical blow.
Part of her had hoped, prayed, that the results would be negative, that the at home test she took a few weeks ago were wrong, that she wouldn't have to face the daunting prospect of motherhood, especially without Jason's support.
But now, as the reality of her situation sinks in, she can't help but feel utterly alone, trapped in the shadow of her mother's cruelty. Following down the same path she did when she was 18 but only she was 23, grown, and by herself.
"What am I going to do?" she whispers, tears falling to the ground.
A sudden movement in front of her face snapped Y/N out of her trance, her body jolting in response. "I'm sorry," she blurted out, hastily wiping the tears from her eyes.
The doctor slid back onto his stool, a warm smile on his face as he handed her a stack of pamphlets. "I’m very happy for you," he said, mistaking her tears for joy. "Here are some resources for young mothers. I know this must be an exciting, but overwhelming time. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns."
Y/N stared at the man, momentarily confused, until the reality of the situation came crashing back.
11:30am
Y/N stood in line at 'The Brew' coffee shop, the warm, inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee enveloping her like a comforting embrace, soft Russian music playing over the stereo. The rich scent of roasted beans mingled with the subtle sweetness of vanilla and caramel, instantly lifting her spirits.
As she waited patiently, her eyes wandered to the man next to her, who seemed lost in thought. He was engrossed in a conversation on his phone, his brow furrowed in concentration, creating a series of deep lines that etched themselves into his forehead.
He shuffled his feet nervously, the movement causing the light to catch on the polished leather of his shoes. His gaze flickered to the menu before him, a brief moment of indecision flashing across his face, and Y/N found herself wondering what could be troubling him.
Unable to resist the urge to learn more, she stole a glance at him, admiring the way the soft, golden light of the café danced across his features. The angles of his jawline were sharp and defined, a stark contrast to the soft, inviting curve of his lips that seemed to beckon her closer.
As if sensing her gaze, he suddenly turned, and their eyes met. In that instant, the world seemed to slow down, the bustling noise of the café fading into the background as Y/N was enveloped in a moment of pure connection. His eyes, a mesmerizing blue, held her captive, sparkling with a hint of mischief that ignited a spark within her.
A confident smile spread across his face, and he leaned away slightly, speaking into the phone. “Alright Lukey, I gotta go.”
"Hey, you're my neighbor, right?" he asked, the recognition evident in his tone. "You live on Baker Street?"
Y/N blinked, surprised by his sudden acknowledgment. "Yes, I do."
Yet, as she spoke, Y/N felt her shyness begin to melt away, like frost under the warmth of his unwavering gaze. There was a magnetic pull to this stranger, an allure that she found herself inexplicably drawn to.
"I'm Jack," he said, extending his hand towards her. His movements were fluid and graceful, his arm cutting through the space between them with a sense of purpose.
As he reached out, Y/N couldn't help but notice the way his fingers flexed, the tendons in his hand shifting beneath his skin like the strings of a finely tuned instrument.
Hesitating for only a moment, Y/N slipped her hand into his, relishing the gentle firmness of his grip. "It's nice to meet you, Jack," she replied, a hint of a smile playing at the corners of her mouth as she held his gaze, unwilling to be the first to break the connection.
He leaned against the counter, his gaze locked on Y/N, as if she was the only person in the crowded coffee shop. "I've been wondering when I'd get the chance to officially introduce myself."
Y/N felt her cheeks flush with heat, suddenly keenly aware of his undivided attention. "I, um, I'm not usually one for small talk," she admitted, her words coming out in a flustered jumble.
Jack chuckled, the sound low and rich. "Lucky for you, I more than make up for that." He flashed her a dazzling smile, his blue eyes sparkling with mischief. "I'm quite the chatterbox, as I'm sure you're about to find out."
Caught off guard by his confidence, Y/N found herself relaxing, drawn in by his easy charm. As the line moved forward, she fell into step beside him, her shoulders brushing against his as they approached the counter.
"So, what's your order of choice?" Jack asked, his gaze sweeping over the menu. "I'm a bit of a coffee connoisseur myself."
Y/N blinked, momentarily flustered by his proximity. "Um, usually anything caramel flavored, I think," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. “I’m leaning towards tea today though.”
Jack's lips curved into a grin. "Excellent choice. A classic, just like you."
"Can I have a banana muffin? And whatever she's getting, we're together." Jack said, flashing the barista a charming smile.
The barista nodded, punching in the order as Y/N stood there, momentarily stunned by Jack's gesture. She managed to give a small smile, her heart pounding erratically in her chest.
"After you," Jack said, gesturing towards the pickup counter. He placed a gentle hand on the small of her back, guiding her forward.
Y/N felt a shiver run down her spine at his touch, her nerves alight. As they waited for their order, Jack turned to her, his sapphire eyes sparkling. “Just a green tea please. And a banana muffin too.” She added, meeting jack’s eyes for a second.
"Such a gentleman," y/n teased. Jack laughed, flashing her a wink. He turned towards the seating area, gesturing for Y/N to follow. "Come on, let's find a cozy spot."
Y/N felt herself being drawn along by his infectious energy, her feet moving almost of their own accord as she trailed behind him. He led them to a small table by the window, pulling out a chair for her before taking a seat across from her.
She didn’t know what to do with herself as she took the seat he offered, settling in across from him. The way he was looking at her, with such open curiosity and intrigue, made her heart race.
"So, Y/N, tell me - what brings you to this fine establishment on this lovely day?" Jack asked, leaning back in his chair and regarding her with a playful smile.
Y/N felt herself relax slightly under his warm gaze. "Just my usual coffee run, nothing too exciting," she admitted shyly.
"Ah, but any day that starts with a chance encounter like this is anything but ordinary," Jack countered, his eyes twinkling. "You've got nowhere else to be, right? No urgent errands or appointments calling your name?"
Y/N shook her head, a small smile playing on her lips. "No, nothing pressing that I can think of."
"Excellent." Jack leaned forward, his elbows resting on the table as he studied her intently. "Then you won't mind if I take the opportunity to learn more about the mysterious neighbor from Baker Street?"
Jack's eyes crinkled with delight as the barista arrived with their order, setting down a steaming latte in front of Y/N and a banana muffin alongside it.
"Ah, perfect timing," he said, flashing the barista a grateful smile. The scent of the baked treat mingled with the rich aroma of coffee, creating a tantalizing combination that did little to calm her already frazzled nerves.
Glancing down at her phone, she quickly typed out a message to her friend Heather, her fingers trembling slightly. 'You're never going to believe this, but this unbelievably gorgeous guy just bought me a coffee and we're sitting at a table together! I'm honestly freaking out right now - I have no idea what to do.'
She hit send, her fingers trembling slightly as she placed the phone back on the table, unsure of what to do next.
Y/N couldn't help but sneak a peek at Jack, who was leaning back in his chair, a warm smile playing on his lips as he took a contemplative sip of his own coffee. The way the morning light danced across his striking features only served to heighten his already captivating presence.
"So, Y/N, what do you do for a living?" he asked, his gaze warm and curious. "I have a feeling there's more to you than just your 'usual coffee run'." His gaze latched back onto hers, his eyes sparkling with genuine curiosity.
Y/N felt heat rise to her cheeks at his words, both flattered and flustered by his obvious interest. "Well, I, uh, I sometimes write for a sports magazine," she stammered, her heart fluttering erratically. "And I'm also working on a couple of novels in my spare time."
Jack's face lit up with delight, and he leaned forward, his elbows resting on the table as he studied her intently. "A writer, huh? That's incredibly impressive. What kind of sports do you cover?"
"A little bit of everything, really," Y/N replied, slowly beginning to relax under the warmth of his gaze. "But I do have a particular fondness for hockey as of recently. There's just something about the intensity of the game that I find absolutely captivating. The fighting, the crowd, just a mix of all of it."
"Hockey, you say?" Jack's eyes gleamed with unbridled enthusiasm. "Well, as it happens, I'm a bit of a hockey player myself. I actually play for the Jersey Devils as a defenseman."
Y/N's eyes widened in genuine surprise, her earlier nerves temporarily forgotten. "What! Well, tell me about it. Do you enjoy it?"
Jack chuckled, the rich sound sending a shiver down Y/N's spine. "Well, then I'd be more than happy to regale you with tales of my hockey exploits." He leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "But only if you promise to share some of your own stories in return."
She extended her pinky, a silent invitation, waiting for him to entwine his with hers, sealing their promise in a tender gesture.
Jack gently raised his hand to the table, his eyes fixed on hers, as he tenderly entwined his larger pinky with hers, sealing their promise with a heartfelt gesture.
The two fell into an easy conversation, trading stories and sharing their passions. Y/N found herself captivated by Jack's easy charm and infectious enthusiasm, and before long, the lunch rush began to fill the coffee shop.
"Maybe I should let you get back to your day," Y/N said reluctantly, glancing around at the growing crowd, a twinge of disappointment tugging at her heart.
But Jack's eyes held a glimmer of pleading, and he reached across the table, his fingers brushing against hers in a gesture that sent electricity coursing through her veins.
"Or you could stay a little longer?" he suggested, his voice low and hopeful. "I'm quite enjoying our chat, and I'd hate for it to end so soon."
Y/N hesitated, her heart palpitating in its cage. This was all so unexpected, but there was something about Jack that made her want to throw caution to the wind.
Taking a deep breath, she offered him a shy smile, her nerves and excitement mingling in equal measure. "You know, I think I'd like that. And maybe, if you're free sometime, we could, um, grab dinner?"
Jack's face lit up with a dazzling smile. "I'd love nothing more," he said, quickly pulling out his phone. "Here, let me give you my number. I can't wait to take you out."
As Jack typed away, Y/N felt a surge of giddiness. This was all so new and exciting, and she couldn't help but wonder where this chance encounter might lead. One thing was certain, though – she was more than ready to find out.
Jack made her feel - seen, heard, and utterly captivated.
14:00 pm
I debated including this, but I felt so giddy and in love with writing I couldn’t help it. I’m just a sucker for some pure love.
***A gentle breeze caressed her face, carrying with it the scent of springtime The world around her seemed to burst with vibrant color - the lush, verdant hues of the trees, their leaves rustling softly in the breeze.
The myriad shades of pink and purple adorning the blooming flowers that lined the sidewalk, and the vast, azure sky overhead, dotted with wispy clouds that danced languidly across the heavens.
It was as if the entire city had been painted with a master's brush, each detail a testament to nature's radiant beauty.
Reaching into her bag, she pulled out her camera, her fingers trembling with excitement as she began to weave through the bustling streets.
In the nearby park, she captured the laughter of happy families, their faces aglow with pure, unadulterated joy as they swung gleefully on the playground or tossed a Frisbee back and forth, their movements fluid and carefree.
Further down the path, a lonely man sat on a bench, tossing a well-worn tennis ball to his faithful canine companion. As the dog bounded after it, his tail wagging furiously, a warm smile spread across the man's face, his eyes crinkling with a contentment that seemed to radiate outwards, touching all who witnessed the tender exchange.
Y/N couldn't resist the urge to capture these fleeting moments, her camera shutter clicking rapidly as she sought to preserve the beauty that surrounded her.
Every step she took seemed to reveal another breathtaking sight - a young couple sharing a picnic lunch on the lush, verdant grass, their bodies intertwined as they leaned into one another's embrace, and a group of elderly friends chatting animatedly on a park bench, their laughter carrying on the gentle breeze.
Each snapshot felt like a love letter to the world, Y/N's heart swelled with a sense of wonder, her steps light and airy as she continued her walk home.
With each snapshot she captured, she couldn't help but see the reflection of Jack in the scenes that unfolded before her.
The joyful laughter of the families in the park reminded her of the way Jack's eyes had crinkled with delight during their conversation. The lonely man's smile as he played with his dog mirrored the warmth and kindness that Jack had exuded so effortlessly.
And the tender embrace of the picnicking couple evoked the gentle way Jack's fingers had brushed against her own, sending electricity coursing through her veins.
It was as if the entire world had conspired to remind her of the captivating man she had just met, weaving his essence into the very fabric of her surroundings.
Y/N found herself wondering what she and Jack must have looked like, huddled together in the cozy coffee shop, their heads bent close as they shared stories and laughter like old friends.
The thought brought a smile to her lips, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of giddiness at the realization that this chance encounter had the potential to blossom into something truly special. Jack's colors had painted the world around her, and she couldn't wait to see what other hues he might bring into her life.***
14:30 pm
Y/N closed the door behind her, the solid wood frame pressing against her back as she leaned into it, letting out a deep, contented breath.
A smile slowly crept across her face, unbidden and unwilling, as she buried her face in her hands, momentarily overcome by the whirlwind of emotions swirling within her.
Slowly, almost reverently, her hands drifted down to her stomach, fingertips gently caressing the barely-there swell that held the promise of new life.
"Maybe this can be good for us," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper, as if speaking the words aloud would somehow make them more real.
Suddenly, a flash of self-consciousness washed over her, and Y/N felt a flush of embarrassment creeping up her cheeks. Had she really just been giddily daydreaming like some lovestruck schoolgirl?
The moment of levity was short-lived, however, as a familiar voice broke the silence, cutting through the haze of her thoughts.
"You just gonna stand there and be weird, or are you gonna come sit down?" Heather said, a teasing lilt in her tone.
Y/N's head snapped up, a sheepish look crossing her features as she nodded and made her way to the couch, her steps tentative and uncertain. "Sorry, I, uh, I was just..." Her voice trailed off, unsure of how to even begin explaining the maelstrom of emotions that had overtaken her.
Heather watched her fondly, a knowing smile playing on her lips. "You're being strange today," she observed, her tone laced with affection. "But I can't say I'm surprised, considering what you told me earlier."
Y/N could feel the heat rising in her cheeks as she settled onto the cushions, her movements almost cautious, as if she were trying to contain the giddiness that threatened to spill out.
Unable to keep the grin from spreading across her face, she shook her head in a half-hearted attempt to downplay her excitement. "I know, I know," she said, the words tumbling out in a rush. "It's just... I haven’t felt this way in a long time and it’s exciting, you know?"
Heather chuckled, reaching out to give Y/N's hand a gentle squeeze, her eyes crinkling with warmth and understanding. "I can see that.”
19:47 pm
Later that night, Y/N ran her fingers lovingly over the smooth surface of her stomach, the gesture almost reverent as she finished her nightly cleansing routine.
Just as she set down her phone, the familiar chime of a new message caught her attention, and a giddy smile instantly blossomed on her face as she saw Jack's name on the screen.
Sinking into the soft cushions of the couch, Y/N eagerly opened the message, her heart fluttering with anticipation.
"Hey there, beautiful," Jack's text read, the words sending a flutter through Y/N's chest. "I was just thinking about you and that lovely smile of yours. How about we make it a date tomorrow night? I know this amazing little Italian place that I think you're going to love."
Y/N's fingers hovered over the screen, poised to type a response, but a twinge of hesitation gripped her. The news of her pregnancy weighed heavily on her mind, a secret that both excited and frightened her in equal measure.
She knew she should tell him, but doubt crept in, insidious and persistent. After all, she and Jack weren't even officially dating yet. Their relationship, while promising, was still new and undefined.
The thought of burdening him with this life-altering news so early on felt unfair, potentially derailing the tender connection they had begun to forge. What if the prospect of fatherhood sent him running?
Shaking off her doubts, Y/N decided to throw caution to the wind. "A date, huh? Well, you certainly know how to sweep a girl off her feet," she typed, adding a flirtatious wink emoji for good measure before hitting send.
Almost immediately, her phone chimed with Jack's response, and Y/N could practically hear the warmth and charm in his voice. "Only the best for my favorite writer," he replied, followed by a string of heart-eyed emojis. "I'll pick you up at 7 sharp. Dress to impress, beautiful."
Y/N couldn't help but grin, a giddiness bubbling up inside her. "It's a date," she replied, adding a playful wink emoji for good measure.
As she set her phone aside, Y/N couldn't help but marvel at the whirlwind of emotions coursing through her.
Just hours ago, she had been a bundle of nerves, unsure of how to navigate this newfound connection. But now, with Jack's invitation in hand, she felt a renewed sense of excitement and possibility.
Sure, the news of her pregnancy was daunting, but she couldn't help but wonder if, just maybe, this could be the start of something truly special.
After all, Jack had already shown himself to be a charming, attentive, and genuinely interested companion. Perhaps, with a little bit of courage, she could find the right moment to share this life-changing news with him.
