The book Sidekicks by Jack D. Ferraiolo talks about this.
Itâs a novel about a Roblin-like sidekick named Bright Boy who started his superhero as a six year old and is now a teenager. He wears very bright tights and ends up on the news when he gets a boner while saving a woman. Bright Boy tries to get a new, more age-appropriate costume but his superhero partner/mentor says no and tells him he just needs to control himself better, argument with some emphasis on remembering the kid he once was vs the public getting to watch Bright Boy grow up.
Itâs a great superhero coming of age with romance, villainy, betrayal, and superpower world building that just happens to kickoff with a superhero getting a boner in costume. Great read if anyone gets the chance!

Happy Wordgirl Anniversary everyone!!
Fifteen years ago today on September 3, 2007, the first episode of Wordgirl officially aired on PBS with the sister episodes âTobey or Consequencesâ and âHigh-Fat Robberyâ.
A few of us in the fandom will be using the hashtag #15YearsOfWG for when we plan to post anything relating to the anniversary (art, written post, etc).
Anyone is free to use as well!
Happy Wordgirl Day!

Wow, so when I first saw this post I was like "Haha, the monster bird from this cancelled Word Girl episode reminds me of the terrifying, monstrous giant birds from Amphibia. What a funny coincidence haha. :)"
Later I made the discovery that Word Girl and Amphibia have the same writer (Jack D. Ferraiolo)
So what if... WHAT IF THIS CANCELLED WORD GIRL EPISODE DIRECTLY (or at least accidentally) INSPIRED ONE OF THE TERRIFYING MONSTROUS GIANT BIRDS FROM AMPHIBIA.
What if Mr Ferraiolo was like "Hey, isn't it neat that I get to reuse this old Birdzilla concept from Word Girl that never saw the light of day?"
And, like, we don't know exactly what species of bird Birdzilla was. So if Birdzilla did get reused in Amphibia, it could literally be anything. It could be those giant herons. The love doves. That giant cardinal from the episode "The Second Temple". Joe Sparrow. Heck, it could even be The Chick-alisk.
How funny would it be if one of those birds from Amphibia was secretly an unused Word Girl character redesigned to fit Amphibia's art style?

Oh yeah, this is my new favourite cartoon conspiracy theory.
Drawing fake screenshots for cancelled wordgirl episodes! (Part 1??)
So I saw a wiki that listed cancelled wordgirl episodes, I don't know if they're actually cancelled ideas, however I thought it would be fun to draw them. Today I will be drawing the title "Three kids and a monster"

Honestly I'm not sure how these 5th graders made a whole bird monster... It looks like a nice birdie though.

Sidekicks by Jack D. Ferraiolo. An indication of how much Teen Wolf is influencing me... All I kept thinking of was the show since the main characters in this book are named Scott and Allison, and their guardians are "enemies.

What I think is interesting about Reginald is that he is mostly defined by background gags and one off conversations. Like the bankers, car dealership owner, rich lady, etc. his main purpose is to be robbed by the villian of the episode.
Yet, he surprisingly has more depth than the other vendors.
Reginald has a big ego and a sharp tongue, but he's also massive coward and a pushover. He refuses to put up any fight whatsoever, no matter what villain it is. Even towards ARG, who is regarded as the worst villain.
He acts like he's better than everyone else, but he seems to have no real friends. He outright states that he doesn't like people, and prefers diamonds. He acts awkward and shy when he actually does like someone.
He didn't fit in school growing up, and it seems to have affected him even in adulthood. He possibly went to a public school, despite being a man of wealth.
He tries to come across as an uppity, classy man who is above it all, yet he enjoys "childish" hobbies like DnD, dress up (ie. A wizard, lobster), Pretty Princess, tea parties, and reading picture books. He was even part of the disco scene at some point.
He has a extreme attachment to his jewels to the point of treating them like his children. He reads to them, cares for them like a infant, and treats them better than any person.
Like Lady Redunant Woman, it seems that he forms stronger bonds with inanimate objects than with people.
It's hinted that he enjoys being robbed at times, as long as they put on a worthy performance. He also enjoys acting as villain himself, and being a part of the performance.
He frequently seems to be be impressed by the abilities of the more powerful villians, though be tries to hide it. Its possible that he wants to impress/one up them with his comebacks.
He seems to be genuinely skilled, though he definitely has a bloated sense of what he's capable of. He can dance, create/paint eggs and figurines, do building repairs, and has an extensive knowledge about jewelry and valuables.
He owns multiple storesfronts.
This man definitely is at least bi, if not gay. He flirts with Brent, and has clearly has a thing for The Butcher.
Another note: Interestingly enough, most of Reginald centric episodes are written by Jack D. Ferraiolo, the voice actor and writer for most of The Butcher centric episodes. đ€
I may be biased as a dandy, but Reginald is seriously under-rated imo. He's just a silly, lonely man who loves his jewels. đ

Compared to the pilot, he has so much personality beyond being a pompous snob.

Reminds me of Sidekicks by Jack D. Ferraiolo
Batman has Robin, Wonder Woman has Wonder Girl, and Phantom Justice has Bright Boy, a.k.a. Scott Hutchinson, an ordinary dude by day and a superfast, superstrong sidekick by night, fighting loyally next to his hero...despite his doubts about the social benefits of wearing yellow tights. After an embarrassing incident involving said tights and the revelation that his lifelong nemesis, supervillain sidekick Monkeywrench, might be one of the most popular kids at his school, Scott begins to question his role. How long can he stay on the sidelines and still hope to have a life?
After the revelations of theircsecret identities, they start hanging outctogether in school, and Monkeywrench (i cannot remember her real name) takes Scott to a guy she knows to get a new costume that is not... as prone to embarrasing situations.
To test it out after buying it, she has him put it on, she puts on her own modified suit, and they spar across the city, leaping from rooftop to rooftop, riding on top of speeding vehicles, culminating in a heartpounding, thought stopping kiss.... That was caught on video and posted online.
Now they are known as the Romeo and Juliet of the super world, Scott struggles to deal with his guardian's growing instability, as well as wrestle with his growing feelings for the girl he was raised to believe should be behind bars.
(I have not read it in about 8 years, so i may have confused when a few things happen, but they all definitely happened in this book. 100 outta 10 recommendation.)
Concept: Hero's Sidekick and Villain's Sidekick are both in their schools (unknown and very ancient) Swing Dance Club (members: 2, awards: 0.5, passion: 120%) and outside of heroing and villainy, they practice loads and complain about the lack of members over text. Because they're both oblivious idiots, they haven't worked out who the other is yet (even though it's So! Obvious!) At a bank robbery, the Villain is raiding the vaults while Villain's sidekick is practicing part of their dance. (1/3)
Neither of them notice Hero and Heroâs Sidekick stealthily creeping in until (on instinct, because itâs second nature for Heroâs Sidekick to correct and give pointers on the otherâs footing and vice versa) Heroâs Sidekick remarks that âYouâre starting on the left foot, [Villianâs Sidekick], we changed it to the right foot so itâd be more fluid, remember- wait, [Villianâs Sidekick]?â â[Heroâs Sidekick]?â âOh hey, this is great Iâll just show you now. Okay, so afterâŠâ (2/3)
âAre you two seriously dancing right now?â âOh shh Hero, canât you see weâre busy? Weâve got a competition in a month and itâs important that we get this right. Off you go now.â Hero and Villain just edge out of the room extremely confused. (3/3)
THIS IS SO DANG CUTE I love how theyâre already established as friends and dance partners in their civvies and just REFUSE to give that up when they figure out their caped IDs. so cute! so pure!!
