Hey I noticed you liked a post I made where I was asking people to ask me about my spidersona...so I'm asking you about yours! Tell me lots of fun things about them :)
thank you so much! 🫶🏾 I have a whole bunch abt her that I'd love to share! (I have her ref too but it's not on my device unfortunately :[)
Her name is Emi Kasongo, and she is 15 years old. She was bitten at the beginning of 8th grade, when she visits her cousin, Chrisange's home and is admiring her collection of spiders and insects for study. After getting permission to hold a spider, she was promptly bitten by it, it being genetically modified Green Lynx Spider. (Emi freaked out and killed it afterwards. She hates spiders.) She tries to keep this a secret and pretends to be normal, but after the death of her best friend and cousin Iyana, she is given the push she needed to embrace her abnormalities and since then, she has been working as Green-Weaver in Earth 6208.
She lives in Brazzahattan, located in York Nouveau (which is basically a combination of Congo and New York) and has been Spider-Woman for about a year and a half. Her official name is Green Weaver, but the people have many nicknames for her, such as J'ba Fofi and L'araigntte. No one knows her secret identity except for her aunt, Maman Mayella.
Emi has the ability to climb on walls and shoot webs out her wrists, along with other species-specific abilities. She can jump a few feet higher and further than the average human, and can turn invisible, along with secrete venom from glands in her mouth in times of extreme stress, just like the green lynx spider. (The last ability is kind of useless, only being notable in times of stress by the strong and terrible acidic taste in her mouth that just keeps producing fluid and won't go away until said stress is gone. )
I'll post her ref once I can manage to get a USB drive. Tysm for asking!!

Jba Fofi
Deep in the heart of African folklore and the dense forests of the Congo basin lies a mysterious and yet largely unverified creature: the Jba Fofi, often referred to as the “giant spider of the Congo.”
The Jba Fofi is said to be enormous, with reports suggesting a leg span of up to 5 feet or more. Such a size would make it many times larger than the world’s biggest known spiders.
According to local legends and some reported accounts, the Jba Fofi spins large webs between trees using leaves and ground debris as camouflage. It’s also said to create burrows in the ground, which are covered by a thin layer of webbing...

Cryptid & Creature Drawtober Day 29 — J’ba Fofi
J’ba Fofi are spiders of exceptional proportion said to inhabit the forests of the Congo. Eyewitnesses claim that they have a leg span of at least five feet or more and they live and hunt in groups, weaving enormous community webs to ensnare their prey. In the 1890s, British missionary Arthur John Simes and a group of his men are said to have encountered these giant spiders near lake Nyasa. His men became tangled in a giant web and were attacked by a pair of the J’ba Fofi. Simes managed to free himself but was bitten by one of the spiders and died from its venom days later.

The j'ba fofi is a giant spider believed to live in the jungles of the Congo Basin. It is unknown exactly how large the j'ba fofi is, but it is said to spin a web large enough to catch antelope, and its eggs are the size of peanuts.
One of the earliest reports came from English missionary Arthur Simes, who in the 1890s claimed that he and his party became entangled in a huge web near Lake Nyasa, and were set upon by spiders five feet in breadth. A 2008 episode of the TV show MonsterQuest foucused on the j'ba fofi.

J’ba Fofi / Giant Tarantula
Generally called the Giant Tarantula in the West, in the Congo this creature is known as J’ba Fofi, and is considered by some to be an ancestor to the Acromantula. While smaller specimens are found in other countries, sometimes sold as pets while still the size of a hand, only to later grow to the size of a dog, the wild J’ba Fofi can grow to up to five feet across - not as big as a full grown Acromantula, but not far off. Wixes of the Baka in the Congo have an extensive history and study of the creatures, and it is they who often capture the runt specimens sold as pets elsewhere in the world, and provide foreign wixes with instructions on their care.
In the wild J’ba Fofi are known to weave lairs of leaves and webs, often hidden in amongst large circular webs - those these webs may warp to fit around disparate branches. They will eat anything of a size they can easily bite, wrap and drain; rats, mice, birds, other J’ba Fofi and even duiker antelope; when well fed they can rapidly reach their full growth, a size only attainable by way of magic. Smaller specimens usually feed mostly on insects but small mammals - mice, shrews and similar - will make for good meals as they grow larger.

Margurite and Reginald Lloyd are a couple of explorers that had a sudden encounter with a gigantic Congo spider known as the J’ba Fofi. Their experience occurred in 1938 when the two were driving along a road. The creature they described was plainly a spider, but its leg span was said to be up to 4 feet in length. In comparison, the spider with the largest leg span - the giant huntsman - measures in at 12 inches.

top ten favorite cryptids now
Not in any particular order
Mothman - part moth, part man, part fucking machine, all husband
Ogopogo - the fish that kisses back
Kraken - tasty calamari, but bigger
Kelpie/ Water horse - putting them on this list because if I dont they will drown me
Grootslang - what's the worst bit about a snake? Too small. Make them bigger! And also give them big floppy ears, a trunk and tusks like an elephant!
Basically any Trickster Fox like Reynard or Kitsune - Foxes are one of my favourite animals so a fox with more tails is just more fox to love.
Flatwoods Monster - I love the interpretations of this that make them look like alien owls
Jackalope/ Wolpertinger - a chunky bunny with antlers and/or wings! lil guys
Tsuchinoko - a fat snake! lil guys who curse and drink
Jersey Devil - kinda like the interpretations of it that are like a quadupedal pterdactyl donkey. It looks too silly for me to be scared of it.
J'ba Fofi - absolutely horrible. A giant spider.
