(disclaimer zdaje sobie sprawę ze piłsudski marszałkiem nie był w 1914 ale ..... panie marszałku jest śmieszniejsze niż józef czy panie komendancie)

Zaślubiny Polski z morzem (Poland's wedding to the sea), 1930:
propaganda: i just think this should be in the tournament bc the historical event it portrays is such a silly sentimental thing. throw that ring into the sea my guys. you are so cute. also Kossak is so iconic, his paintings have to be included
Józef Piłsudski na Kasztance (Józef Piłsudski on Kasztanka), 1928:
propaganda: ok another Kossak, another iconic painting. everyone has seen it. everyone knows the kaszanka parody. not my fav out of kossak's paintings but eh. also OP of the tournament likes when paintings have a history of theft and this one has indeed been stolen once

Meanwhile in Poland....
It is possible for a country to be destroyed and then rise like a phoenix from the ashes. Poland has done it more than once....
Poland officially came into existence in the year 966, but at the end of the 18th century the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was destroyed by its neighbours - Austria, Prussia and Russia - who wiped it off the map.
The first attempt to resurrect a Polish state was the creation of the Duchy of Warsaw in 1807 by Napoleon, which only lasted a few years before disappearing from the map again after Napoleon's defeat in the east. Uprisings in 1830 and 1863 were also brutally suppressed.
However, the Polish people never lost their sense of identity, and despite attempts to germanise and russify them, preserved and passed on their language and culture from one generation to the next until Poland was eventually resurrected after the First World War and became an independent state once more on 11th November 1918.
In 1939 the Nazis and Soviets removed Poland from the map again, and after the Second World War it remained under Soviet rule until 1989, when Poland succeeded in peacefully overthrowing Moscow's puppet regime and finally regaining its independence....

The Hall of Honor at the Polish Pavilion during the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne (International Exposition of Art and Technology in Modern Life) held in 1937 in Paris. The Hall was designed by Stanisław Brukalski and Bohdan Pniewski. The statues depict Bolesław Chrobry, Władysław Jagiełło, Nicolaus Copernicus, Tadeusz Kościuszko, Adam Mickiewicz, Fryderyk Chopin and Józef Piłsudski. The motto above reads Są ludzie i są prace ludzkie tak silne i tak potężne, że śmierć przezwyciężają, że żyją i obcują między nami (There are people and there are human labours so mighty and so potent, that they conquer death, that they live and commune among us), words spoken by Józef Piłsudski at the reburial of Juliusz Słowacki, a great Polish poet.
