I got to meet Mackenzie Davis yesterday at the Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town premiere at the LA Film Festival!! She was fucking gorgeous and sweet as can be and was genuinely so interested in talking to me. I’m even more in love than before. I surprisingly maintained my cool and talked to her mostly about Halt and Catch Fire, basically thanking her for her portrayal of Cameron and telling her how much it meant to me. I also told her that Cameron was the one who inspired me to go into coding and she was so shocked and excited, which was really cool. My nerdy ass also brought my Halt and Catch Fire S1 blu-ray, which she signed for me! She didn’t see the movie (she told me watching herself makes her sick lol) so she got dinner and came back for the Q&A. It was really fun and interesting to see after that crazy, hilarious movie. After the movie, she walked by me, excitedly remembered me and asked what I thought of the movie. I even got a hug! If you get a chance to see Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town, do it. And ofc, if you get a chance to meet Mackenzie, do it. You won’t regret it. ❤️

As Most Holy taught in Cerebus #66 (1984), "You can get what you want and <strong>still</strong> not be very happy."

Izzy Gets the Fuck Across Town opens, after a brief uninspired dream sequence, with a strong first scene as Izzy wakes up in a stranger's bed and, neither of them remembering the other or how they ended up together, spend a little time getting to know one another in a scene that's refreshingly different than the usual awkwardness and embarrassment tropes that you'd expect. I mean, there's awkwardness and embarrassment, but the development therefrom doesn't pursue the expected tropes.

After that, the movie pursues a time-limited odyssey of quirky encounters. The sort of odyssey that should be familiar to anyone whose seen more than a few movies. This collection of incidents and encounters, obstacles and assistants is reasonably entertaining and very gradually reveals information about the protagonist. A duet of Heavens to Betsy’s “Axemen” with Carrie Coon, who plays Izzy's sister is absolutely the highlight of the movie.

The resolution of the odyssey is a bit different than one might expect, which pleased me. As did Izzy's dawning realization of the lesson Most Holy delivered in that 1984 comic book.
