#izuku could have killed katsuki in that first fight or just injured him badly

Sometimes, I forget that there are people who find protagonists like Izuku, Tanjiro and Yuji "boring" because "they exhibit typical shonen protagonist traits" and one of them woukd be "They're nice, they're kind, they're all sunshine".
Which, okay, have your tastes, that's fine.
But when it comes to characters who are kind and/or nice, there's layers to them.
Just because a character is nice, doesn't mean they're kind and vice versa.
A character can be the most evil one in that story and still show kindness to some people somehow. A nice character may be the one to do immoral things, Yuji being an example.
The reasons for why a character is nice and/or kind varies, too.
Some are just genuinely born that one. Some may be selective as to who they show those sides, too, because of their own morality. Maybe, a character is being kind or nice to also manipulate others. Some characters may choose to be kind because who will, despite the cruelty of the world?
Also, I feel like, even with people outside of a fandom, they hear or seen a character being nice and kind, they just stop at that and don't think they're capable of being ruthless.
Like, Tanjiro canonically has a pure soul, but multiple times he has shown he is not only a menace in a fight, but he has shown to be one in casual situations. Sometimes, he's not even aware he is because he is so nice.
Izuku, he's a sweetheart, too. But even he will just shut off that "sunshine" to literally tear into you. He has been told in canon to hold back his emotions, the most prominent one being his anger. When he's angry, go apologize!
Yuji, look, let's be real... he is sunshine and rainbows, but that boy is probably the least sweetest one out of these three examples. Hold back? Yuji don't know what that is. No, no, he really don't. I kid you not, this kid doesn't. You can't even use the fight against Junpei as one because he punched Junpei UP into a window. Had Junpei not have that shikigami, he would have gotten major injuries.
My point is!
Just because a character is kind or nice or both, it doesn't mean...
A) it's the only trait they have.
B) they're not capable of not being kind or nice.
I think some see nice and kind and associate it with being "soft" in a derogatory manner.
Which, first off, there's nothing wrong with being soft.
I'll be honest, it will sound silly (go ahead and laugh actually, I encourage it), but if you asked put a character like one of the mentioned protagonists in front of me along with their villain and asked me "who I'm more scared of" I'm pointing at the protagonist.
Listen to me. Don't let that cuteness fool you.
With a villain, I am well aware of that villain being evil and will hurt me no matter what I do.
With someone like Yuji or Tanjiro or Izuku, they look nice, they look kind but it's like you have to be careful to not to trigger them in a way to set them off. You're caught off guard but those sweet faces and then next thing you know, BOOM! You got knocked out.
If anything, as much as people like to clown on these characters, they're only just following the footsteps of the ones before them.
Just like those legends, they started from the bottom and grew stronger over time and even with being a chill person or don't want to do evil, that doesn't exempt them from being not "a sweetheart".
I said it before, but a sunshine character to me is a character who is warm but lethal, like sunlight.
#shoot if anything i say some of these protags are a little crazier than the last ones...#like I'm sorry but they do things that I'm like 'OKAY WHAT THE FUCK?'#tanjiro out here headbutting the shit of people and taking sickles through.#THAT WAS PAINFUL TO LOOK AT#izuku could have killed katsuki in that first fight or just injured him badly#his fights... he knows to hold back because of his body AND honestly because of others#like when you think about izuku did have the capability to off someone#murder just don't be on his mind#yuji... listen he can throw cars and will do it enough said#he knocked out bullies like they were curses at like 13-14 years old and looked at the last guy with a glare so chilling...#it's like watching season 0 yugi all over#cute but then boom oh i could gravely injure you ha ha#just kiya's thoughts#bnha#mha#boku no hero academia#my hero academia#jjk#jujutsu kaisen#kny#kimetsu no yaiba#demon slayer#midoriya izuku#izuku midoriya#deku#itadori yuji#yuji itadori#tanjiro kamado#kamado tanjiro

𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙬𝙚 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚?
feat. izuku midoriya x fem! reader
cw: angst, bit of gore
˗ˏˋ+ ´ˎ˗ finally founding who the traitor is, izuku isn't to sure how to tell his best friend, y/n.
❝oh, there is something i see in you it might kill me, but i want it to be true.❞
+ decode by paramore
being friends with izuku your whole life, you had developed a slight tiny crush. it wasn't to the point where you wanted to confess your love, no, it was just a crush. you could live your whole life without tell izuku how you felt about him.
it wasn't a major thing for you, because you're best friends. always sticking together no matter what, and you hope he would stick with you in the future.
being friends with izuku, also meant seeing katsuki. not that you didn't like him, he was alright. you just didn't like when he would harass izuku and because he was quirkless at the time, it was you who had to defend him. not that you mind.
you two always shared each others secrets because you're best friends. so imagine the surprise when you went to u.a. and see izuku, who didn't tell you he was enrolling. and imagine the surprise when you find out, not from him, but from katsuki that he has a quirk.
you remembered you seethed in anger. why would izuku tell katsuki, someone who's tormented him his whole life. were you not that important to him? like he was to you? did he downgrade you as a friend and upgraded katsuki as a best friend? did he not trust you enough?
did he no longer like you?
apparently not, 'cause after he entered u.a. he never seemed to have enough time for you. always spending time with the other classmates.
even after you got kidnapped from the league of villains—with katsuki— and returned back with injuries, he only seemed to care for katsuki. when they went to save him, they never bothered to save you.
not even the heroes.
maybe it was because they couldn't find you. you were held in a different section from katsuki. but still, no one tried to look for you. when you asked izuku why no one came for you, he only replied with, "we thought you were dead."
you sobbed for the first time in years, alone in your dorm room. with no one to comfort you. as quickly as people thought you were dead, you quickly shut off your emotions. and no one even noticed.
and as you stood at the back of the common room, staring at them as they talked and hearing them gasp, finally knowing who the traitor is, you smiled. an actual smile, because you finally found where you belong.
and as you saw how the whole class turned to look at you with betrayed faces, and seeing izuku's face, you couldn't help but let the smirk reach your lips.
with a quick swift, you moved out of the way as the common room walls were exploded, loads of villains, including the league of villains, coming through.
blood was splattered on the pavement as boulders fell on some of the classmates, killing them in the process. the ones who weren't injured quickly fought of the villains till help arrived and the ones who were badly injured tried to rush out of the building, seeking sanctuary till they were properly healed.
dust lingering in the process, izuku saw a hand swatting it away. he didn't get in a fighting stance, instead he stared at his bestfriend person with a betrayed face and tears threatening to fall.
"how could... how could you do this?" izuku asked, ignoring the screams and fighting in the background, his only attention focusing on y/n.
she replied with a smile and quickly lunged forward, her hands igniting in flames. izuku dodged every time she tried attacking him, refusing to use his quirk on her. he screamed at her, "stop, y/n! i won't fight you!"
it only angered her, "fight me!"
in a flash, one that izuku didn't see coming, y/n disappeared and repapered, slamming him into a wall making him go through it and landing outside.
he stared at her in disbelief, "you never told me you had two quirks..."
she stood in front of his fallen state, grinning from ear to ear, "pretty cool, huh?"
izuku shook his head, still refusing to use his quirk on her, he tried standing up but was shoved down by y/n's foot. he groaned as she added pressure.
she sneered down at him, "if you won't fight me, deku, then i guess i'll just have to git rid of you."
hearing you calling him his hero name, one that you never used before, he activated one for all. he shoved y/n off of him and at the top of his lungs he shouted at her, "i'm sorry!"
he lunged towards her, both of them dodging each others quirk. no matter what were to happen, nothing would ever remain the same. the feelings they held for each other was no longer there. the feelings they held for each other was now filled with pain, hurt, and furry. nothing would ever remain the same between them.

48 + 50!
48. OC who is a perfect cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure
no one in either story is textbook "perfect cinnamon roll" but sasha ramirez and gigi (gianna crane (shes from cannibalistic pigeons, the project partner i mentioned)) are close contenders. Sasha is a nice person, but not like the pure and innocent variety yk? gigi on the other hand, does start out in cannibalistic pigeons as like 100% cinnamon roll but eventually unfurls completely as the forest begins to call her into it. kinda like how you unfurl an actual cinnamon roll, the sugar and cinnamon and sweetness is still there, it is fundamentally still a cinnamon roll, however it is now a strip of what it once was. or something like that idk the metaphor got away from me
50. Give me the good ol’ OC talk here. Talk about anything you want
uhhhhhhh this is really long so
the gloam started out as bnha fanfiction LMAO
from the basic idea i had written in my notes: "Izuku is accidentally taken to a different universe where the prototypes exist (yu takeyama=uraraka, that version of bakugou that was blunt about everything, other weirdly designed people like kaminari and toruu). The world is kinda in an apocalypse state thats overrun by creatures called aberrants. there’s “heroes” but they’re treated like pest control than celebrities (people still did hero gimmicks for the fun of it)
he ultimately made friends with the other versions. he was forced back home after katsuki was killed by aberrant and yu wanted revenge
when he wakes up back in the regular mha world, aberrants start entering the world and hes the only one who knows how to deal with them"
which in short: alternate universes or whatever. the reason why i abandoned this idea though was because it sorta molded izuku and several other characters into something that they werent. so i saw a post that was like something about fanfics turning characters into basically OCs and i was like. wait a minute. I CAN DO THAT
and so:
the first original idea used to be about 7 teens going on a big camping trip after graduating from high school. the main couple (sylvia + guy i forget the name of) get into an arguement, its super awkward so theyre all like ok ig lets just go home, so sylvia goes in the car with isaac and sasha and in this version, theyre not rlly besties, just people who are friends with each others friends kinda deal yk. but BOOM on the way back they get into a car accident. Sasha and sylvia r badly injured and cant get out, so isaac goes to get help but gets replaced by another person(same as happens in the gloam 4.0 (yeag there is a 3.0 im gettin there)). the rest of the group catches up, get out of the car, and get eaten by a monster. then the whole plot after that was that sylvia and sasha wanted to find isaac as the replacement admits that on the other side of the forest, theres an alternate universe that they could travel to find him. i have no idea what was so supposed to happen after so i scratched the idea.
gloam 3.0 was something similar, adding in the spiciness that the inside of the forest WAS the alternate universe and everyone in it was fighting for their lives. and also sylvia got a gun. what!!! then i scrapped it because i still had no idea how it would be ending or how the story would start because i kinda hated the car accident thing. i could never imagine it quite right.
then theres the gloam 4.0, where you BECOME this alternate version of urself by becoming a sick monster. and also i aged up the main three because i dont know how to write teenagers. im hardly one myself sometimes but i have hanged around both middle aged and old people for my entire life.
i did keep the original ig crossing a threshhold into an alternate universe thing as a seperate idea (anti-glory) but its not something im thinking or working on
(theres a lot more detail that i coul write here but im currently typing this in a moving vehicle and very sleepy)
#sorry about the rambling. it will happen again.#<3#the gloam#cannibalistic pigeons#jelly as in asks

Bakustans be bending over backwards to justify why Bakugo treats people badly, and it’s really insulting to those who have faced worse than him. There are so many characters who have genuine reasons to be angry. You want examples?
Izuku Midoriya has been bullied, suicide baited, discriminated against for his whole life, and is currently being targeted by every villain on the planet, yet somehow manages to be one of the kindest people in the bnha world, and never hesitates to save somebody, no matter the risk to himself.
Mezo Shouji has also been discriminated against due to his quirk, and has been regarded as scary, but he’s still kind, and one of the best friends ever. He didn’t care that one of his freaking limbs were cut off, as long as his friend was safe.
Shouto Todoroki was abused by his father, basically bred for fighting, his mom is in psychiatric care, his brother, who was assumed to be dead is now actually one of the most dangerous villains. He is working past his trauma, and is actively trying to be a good person, and a better hero that his mother can be proud of.
Mirio Togata lost his quirk for a time, and his future as a hero was compromised. He still was humble, optimistic, was still nice to people, and didn’t regret rescuing Eri in the slightest.
Mashirao Ojiro has been looked down upon for his “boring” quirk and still has to struggle with constantly being called plain. He’s still a good person, and doesn’t hold any ill will toward his more popular classmates.
Eijirou Kirishima was bullied during middle school, and had a lot of insecurities about his quirk, but is really encouraging to others even those in different classes, and is very secure in his masculinity.
Hitoshi Shinsou was discriminated against for having a “villain’s” quirk. He’s blunt, snarky at times, but it’s understandable given his history. It’s not excused, but he’s still not a bad person. He’s a hard worker, and arguably is working even harder than Bakugo in order to be a hero, because unlike Bakugo who has a quirk perfectly suited for combat, Shinsou has to start all the way from the bottom up to even get a shot at making it into the hero course.
Neito Monoma was looked down upon for his quirk. Does he constantly lash out, and treat his classmates badly? Here’s the thing though: He’s constantly building his classmates up, and supporting them, putting them before himself, and is jealous that the students of class 1-A with flashier quirks get all the spotlight because he knows that his class is full of hard workers who deserve it just as much. Overall, he’s a good person, kind of annoying at times, but is a great classmate hyping his classmates up, and instigating a harmless rivalry with the other class.
Yuga Aoyama has to learn to master a quirk that hurts him. He sturggles with insecurity over his quirk and abilities as a hero. He comes off as conceited and self-centered but is actually friendly, just shy, and nervous about what others may think. He sacrificed his chances of passing the exam so his classmates could pass instead.
Shouta Aizawa? This guy’s been through hell and back. He was treated badly because of his quirk. Two of his three closest friends since adolescence are dead, near the start of the series he lost stability over his quirk, his leg is gone now, and basically fights quirkless with a capture weapon, because his quirk alone isn’t enough. He’s cold, tired most of the time and seems apathetic and uncaring most of the time. But the thing is, he doesn’t show it, but he cares so much for his students! He didn’t hesitate to throw himself into battle to protect them at the USJ incident, despite the horrible injuries that ensued, still came to class while injured, trained a student that wasn’t even his, took in a little girl to help properly train her quirk and treats her like his own daughter, provides comfort and encouragement to others, and fought to stay alive for the sake of his students!! He has every reason to be bitter and cruel to others, but he’s not. He’s arguably one of the kindest people in the entire franchise.
Katsuki Bakugo on the other hand? He comes from an arguably wealthy family, is privileged, and had pretty much everything handed to him on a silver platter since birth. Even if you argue that his mother smacking him upside the head is abusive despite obviously being played for laughs, that doesn’t excuse him bullying somebody who was supposed to be his best friend due to a genetic mutation (or lack of), telling them to kill themselves, actually TRIED to kill that person, and only treating a select few with basic human decency. He’s only now deciding he wants to “atone” for his actions, despite never apologising or actively treating Midoriya better, only because Midoriya doesn’t have a quirk and is therefore “not weak”, as if it was Izuku’s fault he was bullied in the first place.
What’s his excuse? Midoriya tried to help him out of a stream when they were little, so now Bakugo hates him? Midoriya constantly complimented him as a child so apparently he’s looking down on him? I dunno how to say this, but when a person genuinely compliments and praises you, it isn’t out of pity or malice. Not gonna deny that Bakugo can develop and actually grow as a character, but this should be through actually facing the consequences of his actions, rather than it constantly being shoved in out faces with no evidence.

So I saw ur last post about Izuku as a dad, but I want a bit of angst. Could you do the main 3 (Izuku, Todoroki, Bakugo) if something bad happened to their kid? Like if they were kidnapped by villains or they got hurt- I’m just in the mood for some heartbreak rn 😞
Sorry in advance if I make these too depressing (also sorry for it taking so long, I’ve been stressed)
genre: angst; fluff (only at the ends of these)
warnings: kidnapping; bullying; nomus; near death
pronouns for reader: they/them
for this one I’ll make them older since I want the kid to be in their teens for these ones — I’d feel too bad if it was an actual child (also I kinda did something and made nomus slightly easier to kill 😁)
characters: shoto; izuku; katsuki
Bakugo (bullies...)
Bakugo was at home while his wife was at work and his 15 year old was at school. Sitting at the table it was about time for his kid to come home and he wanted to talk about their day and eat dinner together but they were almost an hour late and he started worrying since they wouldn’t answer his calls or text
Around 5:15 the door bursting open and Bakugo stood up ready to fight thinking it was a villain but it was his kid — Their clothes were ripped, bruised, bleeding and crying. Stumbling inside they fell to the floor and whimpered in pain
“What the fuck?!” Katsuki basically yelled as he ran over to them and sat them up. He was so pissed off to the point he was so close to setting off explosions “What the hell happened?!”
“T-they... jumped me on my way home... and stole some of my stuff” They say as they start crying thinking about it, Bakugo picked them up and held them in his arms as he walked to the bathroom and placed them down on the toilet which was closed
His main priority right now was to take care of them and clean them up, attend their wounds. He’ll deal with the bullies later. Quickly running out the bathroom to grab one their big shirts and underwear (and bra if you’re a girl), then first aid kit
So much was going through his mind as he looked for everything, he was so pissed people can do something so disgusting to someone so kind like his son/daughter. He was mainly pissed at the fact he couldn’t protect them when it happened
Once returning he got them all washed in a warm Bath, cleaned and covered their wounds, once everything was taken care of he picked them up and took them to their room so they can rest, even gave them their favourite stuffed animal they’ve had since they were a baby
“I’ll check on you later...” placing a kiss on their head he walked out to call the school and once his wife got home he told her everything, she came into their room so worried only to see them sleeping peacefully.
The bullies ended getting expelled and time in juvenile hall since it was after school hours and they (you) moved schools
Deku (kidnapping...)
Deku was at home when he got a text from an unknown number, at first he was gonna delete it but he didn’t because he had a strange feeling he should look at it, once he did his heart nearly stopped when he saw a photo of his 16 year old son/daughter tied up on the floor in underwear (and bra if you’re a girl)
Then a text underneath read ; “We’re borrowing them for a little bit. If you want them back come find us. Don’t worry they aren’t hurt that badly. They’re still breathing — LOV”
Surprisingly they said who they were, Deku immediately got up and ran out the door, he wasn’t even thinking about anything anymore. His kid was the only thing he cared about right now
He didn’t care if it took him days to find them — As long as they are okay thats all that matters, thankfully it only took him a few hours to find exactly where they were and when he did he didn’t hesitate at all to fight everyone of them off
After he was done fighting he immediately picked his son/daughter up and ran to safety, taking off his shirt to give to them and he ran to the closet hospital to see if they had any serious injuries
“Don’t worry, dad’s got you. We’ll get you all checked up and we can go home to relax there” Deku was always so gentle and kind with his kid, even if they did something wrong.
“I-I love you dad...”
Shoto (nomu)
This one kinda long oops 😀
Shoto and his 15 year older son/daughter were having a nice day out that day, they got ice cream together, went to an arcade, they got a new stuffed animal that they put in the car at the mall so they didn’t get tired walking with it
Just when you thought things couldn’t get bad — It did. A bunch of villains attacked the mall with two Nomus, one Nomu on each side of the mall. There was a shit ton of chaos happening and after about a few minutes of trying to fight off the nomus and villains something happened Shoto was scared shitless of happening. His kid was hurt pretty badly by one of the Nomus trying to protect a civilian from it
They were punched so hard in the stomach they flew to the wall and hit it pretty hard, somehow a piece of glass cut them on the face and a few broken bones — Their breathing was slow... so much blood was near them and Shoto legitimately thought they died until they moved just a bit
Paramedics came and so did a few heros, fighting off the nomus and Villains so that Shoto could get to his kid. Paramedics got them into their truck attached to so many different machines in one small truck
“What do you mean I can’t go in there with them?! That’s my fucking kid!” Shoto rarely lost his temper and yelled and cussed but he was so worried he had to.
“Sir, you can follow us there” was the last thing one of the paramedics said before closing the door and they sped away, Shoto ran as fast as he possibly could to his car and got inside, going over the speed limit to get to the hospital faster, surprisingly didn’t get pulled over on his way there
After about a few hours of waiting to see his kid to see if they were okay a nurse came out to him
“Mr Todoroki?” She called out, Shoto stood up so fast he also passed the fuck out from it
“Are they okay?!”
“They’re doing good, they’re awake. But three things we need to tell you; on the way here they did die for about a minute but they came back. We were pretty shocked to see that happen, they have a pretty big scar on their eye, but nothing we couldn’t fix! And lastly they have a broken arm and rib. You can go see them”
Shoto nodded at this information and he went to grab the stuffed animal he brought in from the car so he had something to hug, walking to the room that they were in he broke into tears seeing them
“Oh thank god you’re okay!” He said going over to grab onto their non injured hand
“Dad... I—“ they said as they felt tears build up in their eye, they held his hand tightly and smiled very softly — Still in pain when they did “I told you you’re not getting rid of me that easy, I’m staying forever” They said in reassurance as if they were the parent
If it’s horrible I’m sorry 😭

when their partner gets injured in battle - todoroki, midoriya bakugou
𝑵𝒐𝒕𝒆: Hi everyone! Leo here with the first post of the new blog! Yayyyy! This one wasn’t a request, but I wanted to do something tonight for my official opening! Enjoy!
𝐭 𝐨 𝐝 𝐨 𝐫 𝐨 𝐤 𝐢
❅ Shoto is the king of masking his emotions, so if you’re hurt in battle, an onlooker might not be able to tell that he’s all that concerned.
❅ On the inside, he’s in a state of panic, praying that he won’t have to add losing the one he loves to his list of regrets and failures.
❅ Despite that worry, he keeps it cool on the outside. Whatever villain injured you, he disposes of them as quickly and efficiently as he possibly can, although there’s probably a lot of anger in his fighting style. He becomes SUPER aggressive and vicious, but none of it shows on his face until he gets super into it, then the rage really starts to show.
❅ He’s getting seriously angry, going super overboard. The flames are out, and he’s clearly not trying all that hard not to kill whoever it is that hurt you. Someone probably tells him to chill out and this boy gives no fucks.
❅ Shoto is that combination of emotional repression and extreme passion where once he’s been set off, and the calm and stoic facade wears off, reeling him back in is very difficult. Getting him to back off and let the authorities take over takes some convincing on the part of your fellow heroes and/or classmates.
❅ If it’s a matter of urgency, where you need immediate treatment, he fights like his life depends on it. He doesn’t care what happens, if he overexerts himself, if he himself is injured in the process. None of it matters until he knows that you are safe. He’s still perfectly efficient, only now about a hundred times more reckless.
❅ Once you’re at a hospital or in the infirmary, he doesn’t leave, or if he does, he comes back as soon as he’s bathed and eaten. He waits patiently outside your hospital room, his face totally blank, aside from clear distress in his eyes.
❅ Taps his foot lightly every now and then, but is actually eerily still.
❅ Until a nurse walks out of the room, and he stands straight up as soon as he sees her, and just says “Well?”
❅ He’s praying that you’ve made it, and is beyond relieved to hear that you’ll recover, but doesn’t let himself decompress until he’s sitting at your bedside, where his shoulders slump and he takes your hand and tells you that he was worried.
❅ He’s had so much shame and regret in his life. He had already had to handle losing his mother and being an abomination to her, as well as having to deal with his dad and forging his own legacy. The death of someone so precious to him, someone he cherishes so deeply. . . It would have been absolutely crushing.
❅ Shoto isn’t the type to be quick to make deep attachments, and this incident only serves to remind him just how precious you are, how quickly things can change.
❅ The smile he has on his face when you open your eyes and look at him, and whisper his name is the purest smile he’s had since he was a kid.
𝐦 𝐢 𝐝 𝐨 𝐫 𝐢 𝐲 𝐚
✰ Midoriya actually doesn’t keep super close watch over you during battles.
✰ He’s incredibly focused on strategy, and unless you’re teaming up and doing moves together, he tends to focus more on beating the villain in front of him. He has absolute faith in you as a hero, and believes you can do whatever you put your mind to.
✰ He doesn’t notice you need help until it’s a moment too late, and he’s cursing himself for not being attentive enough, for not having your back.
✰ The second that he realizes you’re badly hurt, all bets are off. No egg in the microwave, no constraining himself to only use his pinky finger. He rushes over and jumps straight into the line of fire without a second thought.
✰ It’s not even vengeful, although there’s a tiny bit of that there. Mostly, he’s panicked and needs them out of the way so that he can help you as soon as possible.
✰ He attacks whoever hurt you at just barely enough power to keep from killing them, but they’re definitely not getting up any time soon.
✰ Izuku is blaming the hell out of himself. He should have been there, he should have been a better partner, a better hero.
✰ He accompanies you to the hospital for as long as he can, the doctors practically have to restrain him from entering the surgical unit with you.
✰ He is absolutely fraught. He’s pacing, tearing his hair out, his eyes are watering, all because he just didn’t pay attention.
✰ He’s praying, harder than he ever has in his entire life. Harder than he prayed to hear back from the entrance exam. He can’t bring himself to sit down for longer than a couple of seconds before he’s pacing again.
✰ When he hears that you’re going to make it, he collapses down into a chair and holds his head in his hands, still crying and an absolute mess, but now he’s relieved.
✰ He’s at your side the second you’re awake, apologizing profusely and swearing that he’ll never let anything like that happen again.
𝐛 𝐚 𝐤 𝐮 𝐠 𝐨 𝐮
✧ Katsuki blames himself as soon as he sees it happen, but he doesn’t tell anyone that. He’s the best in the business, the future number one hero; how could he have let something like this happen?
✧ He’s worried out of his mind, and pissed as hell. Absolutely furious. He’s screaming profanities at the villain that hurt you, and blasting their face to hell in the process. He’s sweating and out of breath by the time he’s done, and the others practically have to drag him off of the guy.
✧ He insists that he’s fine every time anyone asks, but no one misses the way that his eyes are glued to the ambulance as it speeds down the street and towards the hospital.
✧ He’s completely silent on the way over, staring dead ahead with an almost-scowl on his face. His jaw is clenched the whole time, his hands curled into fists and his shoulders tense. He can’t stop replaying it in his head, the image of that bastard standing over you, your blood dripping from his hands.
✧ He doesn’t realize or remember, but he screamed the second that he saw it, out of complete, white-hot rage.
✧ ‘You idiot,’ he thinks, but he doesn’t know if he’s talking to you or to himself.
✧ Once he’s at the hospital, waiting to hear whether you’ll live or die, he won’t say a word. Even when Midoriya approaches, an occasion he’d usually take to curse the other boy out, he is dead silent. However, he still shoots anyone who tries to speak to him an absolutely deadly glare.
✧ On the outside he’s furious, but internally he’s being totally consumed by guilt and regret. If he had just been less fucking incompetent, if he had just lived up to all of his talk, then the two of you would be home by now.
✧ You’d be cracking some shitty annoying joke, and he’d tell you to shut up, and you’d tell it again, and he would throw something at you, and everything would be fine.
✧ Instead he’s here, with purple knuckles and blood on his face, stuck in limbo while he waits.
✧ The nurse walks out of the room, and his eyes are on her, staring in what he doesn’t realize is a glare as she reports the news. His nails dig so hard into his palms that they bleed, and his jaw clenches as he waits for her to just spit it out.
✧ Once she reports that you will recover, he stands and walks out and just paces the building outside, processing the fact that you’re going to be okay.
✧ He doesn’t visit right away, but when he does, he calls you an idiot, tells you that you should never, ever be that reckless and stupid again. He also promises that when he’s number one, nothing like this will ever happen again.

BNHA: something sad (Resentment)
Summary: The last time Katsuki sees Izuku alive the other boy is rushing to save him. A ‘the Sludge Villain incident gone wrong’ aka Izuku dies.
Characters: Katsuki Bakugo
Fandom: My Hero Academia
WARNINGS! Major Character death, swearing, heavy angst, graphic descriptions of violence
Other parts in this AU: (Something Sad), (Anger), (Grief)
This is the direct sequel to (Implosion)
......
“Not many people get hit with a concussive blast of this strength and walk away will so few injuries.” Is what the paramedic that looks Katsuki over says, hand glowing a faint blue as he uses some sort of diagnostic quirk.
“It looks like you have a few cuts, bruising, strained muscles and sprained wrist from what I can see. I’d recommend getting a proper examination at the hospital but there’s nothing life-threatening here.” The medic continues.
The emergency doctor at the hospital confirms the diagnosis and shakes his head in disapproval, adding, “…bruising on your ribs and a fractured finger. No concussion, thankfully, but you’ll have a nasty bump on the back of your head. If your quirk didn’t make you naturally resistant to these sorts of shock-based blasts, you would be dead..”
…
After that, everyone is practically falling over each other to lecture him on how irresponsible and reckless he is.
..
His mum arrives and there is a lot of shouting which just pisses him off.
“HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO REACT WHEN I GET WOKEN UP AT ONE IN THE MORNING BY POLICE TELLING ME THAT MY IDIOT SON, WHO SHOULD BE ASLEEP, IS IN HOSPITAL!!”
“WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!
Then there is the quiet disappointment he gets from his father when his mum is done yelling which only fuels his resentment.
“I don’t understand why you did it son. Did you want to get into that fight? Or was it a mistake? Please. We can’t help if we don’t know what’s going on.”
Eventually, he finally snaps, “I fucking felt like it! That’s why I did it! And you know what, I’d do it again.”
It wasn’t like he could or even wanted to explain that he’d jumped out his window to wander the streets at midnight because he had had a bad dream and his All Might poster had looked at him funny. That the rage and anger were preferable to that sinking empty feeling that had turned his every waking moment into a pointless repeat of everyday routines and useless interactions. That every time he let himself pause and reflect, Deku’s stupid smiling face was mocking him from the afterlife.
Next, he spends an hour with Senior Officer Watanabe recounting every possible detail from his stroll through the streets to his climactic fight with Lanky, Tiny and Grease-Hair.
“Well, you definitely don’t do things in half measures kid. So far we have private and public property damage, unlicensed quirk usage, quirk usage with the intent to harm, vigilantly activity, assault...”
“Assault! Why the hell is that on the list. Those bastards started it.”
“You can’t go around beating people up no matter how good your intentions are!”
“So, you wanted me to just watch!”
“Yes!” A long breath, “I know it can be hard but you need to wait for the pros. You got lucky this time but what if things had been different? You had misread the situation. What if you had been badly injured? What if you had accidentally injured the victim or killed someone? There is a reason we make people get a license for Hero work. Seison Masuyama is a B-rank villain.”
“B rank? He wasn’t that strong.”
“His quirk, Kinetic-Force, collects kinetic energy and releases it in one overpowered attack. It’s deadly to most people. You were lucky he had already used it once that day and that you were resilient enough to withstand it."
After multiple repeats of the ‘you’re lucky you’re not dead,’ with a side order of ‘it’s a good thing you’re still a minor because you could go to jail for this,’ he gets to go home.
It is three in the morning by the time he arrives back at the apartment, two exhausted parents in tow, having been issued an ‘official warning,’ an order to complete 100 hours of community service and instructions to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. He has never felt angrier or more resentful.
A days later and he is back at school, wasting his time watching clocks and avoiding classmates.
Nothing had changed.
…
…
…
The car screeches to a stop at the school gates, throwing Katsuki forward in his seat. His mum turns to fix him with a stern glare, eyes narrow.
“If you’re not waiting right here by the gate when I come to pick you up or so help me I’ll be escorting you to and from your classroom from the rest of your school life,” she threatens.
“Lay off you old bat,” Katsuki snaps as was becoming routine since his mum had started driving him the short distance to school, “I got it the first million times.”
“I’ll believe that when I see it.” A finger is pointed at his nose, waving in an almost menacing fashion. “Remember. Here. School Gates. 4:00pm. Don’t you dare think about ditching again.”
Katsuki sneers and kicks open the car door, turning to slams it shut with as much force as possible in retaliation. He stalks through the gates, shouldering his way through a group of loitering students. They all scatter when they recognise him. In some ways, he prefers dealing with the anger and yelling of his mum than his father’s quiet disappointment. That doesn’t stop it from being annoying as hell.
A spike of pain runs through his hand from where he must have used a little too much force on the door. Maybe he should take his father up on those kickboxing classes. Sure, he had practised punching after reading a bunch of online guides, but reading and solo practice were completely different when compared with real actual fighting. That was assuming he was going to be getting into more real fights. He opens and closes his bandaged fist, feeling a slight sting in his wrist and fingers. He glares. Four days on and he can still feel the echo of adrenalin. The thrill of righteous anger had been so much more satisfying than the directionless rage he was accustomed to. It had rekindled some of that fire that drove him to be the best, to win, chasing away the sickening emptiness which had been dogging his every waking step.
He wants to feel that again…He wants to do something other than listlessly go through the same daily motions as he drifts towards his now uncertain future.
“Hey Bakugō!”
He keeps walking, ignoring whatever loser classmates wanted to talk to him.
“HEY!”
A hand lands on his shoulder and Katsuki twitches, a hairs breath away from spinning and firing a blast point-blank into the pest’s face. Instead, he stops and deliberately turns to glower at the pathetic piece of trash behind him. Murata Taheiji from his homeroom is standing there, one hand on his hip, flanked by two other boys he doesn’t know the names of. Two more appear to stand in front of him, blocking his way. They are all puffed up like they think they’re hot shit. Katsuki scoffs. Are these failures really trying to bully him? HIM!?
“How about you get the fuck out of my way and go find a first year to pick on. You know, someone more on your level.”
That gets him an irritated scowl that transforms into a patronising grin, “You were always such a stuck up prick Bakago…Acting so high and mighty all the time. Not anymore, I know the truth. You’re just like the rest of us.”
“Huh?” he drawls, dragging out the sound, turning so he is facing the boy, “What the fuck are you on about.”
“My dad works for Musutafu police dispatch and he told me something real interesting yesterday.” A dramatic pause, “He said that you got arrested a few nights ago.” There is a laugh that is echoed by the four surrounding him. By now the confrontation has garnered the attention of several onlookers, who are slowly drifting closer.
“All that shit about being a Hero and you got arrested. What’d you do? Steal some candy from a convenience store? We all know you don’t have money.”
Around them, the growing audience is eyeing him with varying levels of eager anticipation like they think he’ll break down and start crying because of some dumb-ass insults. Damn, if that doesn’t just piss him off. How dare these losers think him that weak.
“Don’t compare me to your loser selves,” he dismisses aggressively, making to turn and forcefully elbow his way past. He is stopped by Murata’s hand which is still on this shoulder.
“You know what I think. I think you’re all talk.”
Katsuki stills, letting the words sink and curdle in his stomach. In one short move, he turns and steps in close to Murata so they are almost nose to nose.
“Don’t fucking touch me,” he warns. The other boy tenses, looking like he wants to say something else equally stupid. If he remembers correctly Murata has some sort of muscle-enhancer, reflex quirk. One of the only worthwhile quirks in the school.
Katsuki jerks his elbow up and around in a quick jab. It smacks into the loser’s face. Crack. Guess having fast reflexes didn’t make a difference when you never saw the blow coming.
There is a cry of surprised pain and shouts of alarm from the peanut gallery. The other boy falls back, tripping over his own feet. It is ridiculously simple to lift a leg and deliver a kick to the stomach, not even a strong kick, so his failed bully thuds onto the ground, tossing up a small puff of sand. Unlike the fight in the ally, there is no rush of excitement, no spike of anger or adrenaline. No exhilaration. He is just irritated and maybe a bit disappointed. That’s what he gets for expecting anything out of the pathetic losers that went Aldera Middle School. They were more annoying than anything else.
Murata rolls around in the dirt, wheezing, trying to draw breath. He can almost imagine Deku running up to complain about his violent tendencies or sprout some shit about Hero’s needing to protect people like Murata didn’t ask for it when he decided to try his luck bullying someone obviously stronger than him.
The reminder of Deku sours his already shitty mood.
“Ah…you broke my nose. YOU BOKE IT…ah…it hurts. Do something!” The idiot calls to his equally idiotic friends as he tries to stop blood from pouring down his face.
Katsuki gazes coolly at the boy before directing his attention at the four other ‘bullies’ standing frozen around him.
“You extras got something else to add to that?” With Murata out of the game, the rest of the pathetic group shuffles about uncertainly.
“Ah…we’re good,” The tallest one says nervously, “Sorry about that Bakugō. No hard feelings right?”
He scoffs.
One of the boys moves forward to pull Murata upright, kneeling and pulling out a tissue to help stem the flow of blood. “Crap. I…I think Murata needs to go to the nurse. This looks serious.” There are a few more apprehensive glances in his direction like the other boys think he’ll insist on continuing the ‘fight’-ha! like this has been anything near a fight- until they are all bloody messes on the ground. Kaksuki rolls his eyes. As if he has the patience to deal with any more of these losers.
“Cowards,” he mutters, shoving past. The crowd of students who had gathered to watch the failed confrontation, scramble to get out of his way. A strong breeze rushes through the school’s courtyard, drawing attention to how quiet it has suddenly gotten. Barely audible whispers follow in his wake and he can feel many sets of eyes on his back, watching.
“He always did have a bad attitude.” They murmur.
“Guess he’s a real delinquent now.”
“…did you hear what Murata said. Do you think Bakugō actually got arrested?”
“That’s got to be fake right? Murata is full of hot air.”
“No way. I believe it. You don’t have to share a class with him, I’m telling you, Bakugō’s gone nuts.”
“Kind of scary when you think about it. With a quirk like that...”
He doesn’t know why they’re all so shocked. This isn’t the first fight he has gotten into on school grounds. Okay, so maybe he’d held off doing any real harm before now, well aware that U.A. would probably check his school record. It had never mattered to him because there was no point in beating up weaklings when he was obviously superior. Except for Deku…the only person he had ever really hurt, the only person he could get away with hurting without repercussions. And now he feels like extra shit. God, what a huge farce it had all been. Kaksuki clenches his fist and growls, wondering if it isn’t too late to ditch and go find somewhere secluded to blow off steam. Anything to escape this feeling of frustration.
He doesn’t have time to make a proper decision because news of his ‘fight’ had obviously spread to the staffroom. One of the second year homeroom teachers comes barrelling out of the school’s front entrance, eyes immediately landing on him.
“What happened!” Their eyes move past him to the bloody Murata, “Go wait in the principles office. Now.”
Well, he didn’t want to deal with his annoying classmates anyway. He stalks away, the sounds of the teacher fussing over Murata growing fainter behind him. When he arrives, the principal’s office is empty and he flings himself down into one of the comfy couches, irritated. The bell for homeroom goes off and Kaksuki remains sprawled across the couch, arm across his face to block out the light and his view of the clock slowly ticking away.
Just as he begins to contemplate leaving, Principle Fukuhara comes strolling into the room.
“ Bakugō,” the man lets out an exasperated sigh, “Sit up please.”
Katsuki moves his arm to peek out and glare at the man, deliberately ignoring the instruction.
“I just finished talking to Ms Yuki and the school’s nurse. You broke Murata Taheiji’s nose. I hope you realise how serious this situation is and that there will be major consequences. Aldera Middle School does not tolerate this sort of violence on its grounds.”
Silence. That was a fucking lie. Slowly, Katsuki pulls himself upright, meeting the man’s hard stare with his own.
“Well, do you have anything to say for yourself and your disgraceful behaviour..”
Katsuki narrows his eyes, “The idiot was asking for it.”
Obviously, it's the wrong response going by how the skin tightens around the man’s eyes, “I see...I’m sorry you feel that way. Up until now, our school has been more than lenient. We have overlooked your shameful behaviour these last few weeks because we wanted to give you time to settle after going through such as tragic incident. However, I am afraid that this time you have gone too far. Your parents will be notified. You’ll see the school councillor. You will be staying back for after school detention. Since this is your first major incident we…”
“First?” He cuts the man off. He is sick of hearing the moron’s voice. “Hahaha and people say you don’t have a sense of humour.” He laughs an unpleasant laugh which increases in volume until he is almost shouting.
“What sort of shit hole are you running? Three years I’ve been beating up the dumb idiots that come here and now you decide to care. Why is that huh? Is it because I’m no longer going to put this shitty place on the map and become a famous hero! HA!”
He lets his voice quieten, sneering “I’ll never be a hero so you’re shit out of luck.” Finally saying it out loud is like throwing a bucket of water over the embers of an already struggling fire. It hurts deep in his chest. The expression of shocked disbelief is almost worth it.
“Thanks for proving what a worthless profession it is,” he finishes with another hash laugh, rage simmering under his skin. When he tries to stand and leave a hand lands on his shoulder, pushing him back down.
The principal, who still looks somewhat stunned at his sudden outburst, orders, “Sit back down Bakugō! I am far from finished.”
Why do people always feel the need to grab him. He is so fucking sick of everyone pulling and tugging on him, trying to control him and hold him down. Katsuki turns slowly, that simmering rage pulsing, running down his limbs. Pop pop pop go his hands. He feels as explosive fire gathering in behind his eyes and in his shadowy stare. It is not the dramatic, adrenaline-induced anger he had felt when preparing for the ally fight. No, this is a dark burning rage, fuelled by his growing resentment.
“Touch me again,” he growls, low and intimidating, “and I’ll kill you.”
The principal snatches his hand back like he has just been burnt. A poignant silence follows in the wake of his threat.
“Suspension,” the man says, swallowing, “You’re suspended. I’m calling your parents right now.” And is it just him or does he look genuinely worried? There is even a hint of fear in his wrinkled face. Katsuki takes vindictive joy in the achievement. Finally…finally the worthless morons are seeing him, truly seeing him and not whatever Bakugō -delusion they’d all cooked up in their heads.

Bakudeku canon divergent, vampire quirk AU

Talking with the authorities would have given Bakugou some information, at least on where they’ve already searched or who they may have spoken to. But he didn’t want to risk being held there under their watch. So, the only thing he could think of was to start at the beginning, at the last place Midoriya was seen. Maybe there could be a clue, a direction, or something that would point him towards the next step. It was a long shot for sure considering if his friend wanted to travel far, he could use his quirk to boost himself greater distances. Hopefully not!
The battle had taken place near the border of Fukui and Ishikawa prefectures. They’d tracked All for One to a hideout in the forests surrounding Lake Manahime-ko, presumably because of the dense trees and sparse communities of the area so he could regroup. It was a pro-only mission that Bakugou, Midoriya, and Todoroki were brought in for, but in the ensuing last stand, All for One slipped away while the pro heroes were busy dealing with the remnants of villains still loyal to the League. Seeing this happening, the trio of students had taken off after him.
From the outskirts of the forest, it’s dense pines served well to hide the battle that had raged only a month ago. But using his quirk to take him above the tree line, Bakugou was able to see the hole in the canopy that was blasted apart by their explosions along with a slight trail because of the Nomu skirmishes. As his eyes tracked it for a moment, flashbacks of the fight ran through his analytical mind, but ultimately, his focus circled back to the final destination. He landed in the newly created clearing and took a moment to scan the area for any obvious clues… that didn’t exist.
As Bakugou stood in the spot where All for One had fallen. He sat down on the ground running his hands over the few areas that were still marked by their fight. Some rutted dirt, charcoal singe marks that were starting to fade, dozens of broken trees and mangled brush surrounded him, in fact the depressed area he sat in was levelled by the battle. The scorched crater, approximately two meters deep looked like a small meteor had created it. A month in the open elements had washed away much of their action but there were enough traces of it, like the darkened, burnt earth, to bring back all the memories. He closed his eyes and recalled the events like it was yesterday.
While chasing after AFO, a pair of Nomu’s that guarded All for One had broken off at the villain’s direction to attack the students. So, a tactical decision was made, Midoriya continued after the villain while the other two dealt with the Nomu’s. ‘Those bastards were tough…’ Bakugou sighed. They were probably the most advanced Nomu’s under AFO’s control. But the longer they were fighting the creatures, the more distant Midoriya’s blast sounded, the more worried he became at leaving their friend on his own. “Hurry the fuck up icy hot!” He had screamed at his fighting partner. An unusual panic was building in the blonde’s veins as he unleashed his fury on the creatures. Once one Nomu was down but not dead, Bakugou barked at Todoroki to finish it while he took off in the direction Midoriya and All for One had gone. He was sure the fire and ice user could handle things, while his old friend was at a disadvantage. The OFA holder was strong… but history had proven he could become reckless without a certain person’s guiding hand.
Bakugou had blasted his way through the dense brush and tightly packed trees, searching for his friend. The sounds of explosions, splitting wood and occasional smoke guiding him on a path. It took a quarter mile to get to them and what he saw made his blood boil. Midoriya was covered in green lightning trying desperately to break out of All for One’s grip. Stupid idiot for getting caught! Bakugou sent a long range shot at the villain, throwing him off just enough for Midoriya to break away. The pair then teamed up and all hell broke loose.
It was tough. All for One doesn’t look as physically opposing as most villains but the man was a level above for sure. Over a hundred years of experience, coupled with a plethora of unknown stolen quirks at his disposal made both close range and long-range attacks difficult to determine or engage in. Speed was the one advantage the younger students had on their side, as well as an uncanny ability to coordinate their movements.
Blow after blow the pair threw everything, they had at All for One, but it was barely making a dent. Bakugou was growing frustrated and heated that his quirk was almost useless against this foe and even with OFA on his side, Midoriya was struggling. There was a damn good reason no one had been able to stop AFO before. He didn’t know how much time was passing by, maybe a lot, maybe it was mere minutes of heavy skirmishes. They were keeping up, but at that pace, soon enough their strength was going to give out.
Then the scene that haunted Katsuki’s dreams came blasting through and his fists tightened.
“Fuck! Why won’t this bastard die!” ‘So much blood… I can’t tell how bad our injuries are cause it’s everywhere… no time to catch a breath. This wasn’t the first time I’ve seen Deku in action, but he’s moving faster than I can register! Think, Katsuki, think! Fuck! Idiot! He’s getting sloppy! “Izuku!!!” I screamed and pushed him out of the way…’
Katsuki’s closed eyes tighten to the harsh flashback. Maybe he should have trusted Midoriya to dodge, but when he saw the blast, his body just moved on instinct and that’s when it happened. One wrong move on his part rocked him so badly that he’d been thrown against a tree, landing hard and almost immediately knocking him unconscious. At the same time, seeing him go down that way, Midoriya’s quirk exploded. Shit! Midoriya’s one trigger, and Katsuki had just set it off! His vision was starting to blur but in Bakugou’s mind it registered that his friend had spiked to 100% full power. Even though his friend had finally mastered that level it was still dangerous, but there was nothing he could do to stop it. And as his eyes closed, and mind faded into blackness, the last thing he saw was the brightest light being shot from both adversaries.
Bakugou opened his eyes again and let out a long exhale. That’s all he knew, all he remembered. His stupid mistake might have costed his friends life and that didn’t sit well with him, at, all. Using 100% alone could have killed Midoriya, let alone not knowing what kind of blast AFO had shot at the man. Though he knew that his friend hadn’t died right there, or he would have been found along with All for One. Clearly Midoriya had been able to move and get away.
So… “Where are you?” Bakugou whispered to the wind. Stupid dumb ass. If he’d been injured, he should have waited for help to arrive. “Making everyone worry you asshole!” He screamed and punched the ground. In his heart he knew that Midoriya wouldn’t just run away for no reason. There had to be one. What it could be he couldn’t even begin to comprehend. But if it was to die alone somewhere like some sick stray dog, he swore to holy hell he’d kill Midoriya’s corpse a second time!
He scanned the area, squinting through the suns glare at the tree line. If there had been a blood trail it would’ve washed away long ago and there didn’t appear to be any more broken foliage that wasn’t attributed to the battle. Bakugou got to his feet and groaned. So, this really was a dead end after all. Not surprising since the authorities probably went through the area with a fine-tooth comb and obviously nothing was found. Bakugou tilted his head up one last time with his eyes closed in thought and sighed… Of course, this wasn’t going to be easy… “But I’ll find you Deku…” A promise is a promise.

Chapter One: You Be My Hero, And I'll Be Yours
"Full Cowling! 15%!"
A green-haired teen by the name of Izuku Midoriya was training at the U.A dormines. The current time was 9: 23 pm and he was training his body to handle the power of One For All. He had just gone through the pain of the death of the Pro Hero Nighteye, it was also the day when he decided.
"Haa!" His yell catches the attention of his peers as they look through the window to see what was happening with the greenie. He had just kicked through boulder with his 'shoot style' leaving it to bits and pieces.
"Looks like Midoriya is out training again." Commented a spiky red haired teen as he watched his friend punch a hole through a tree.
"But I'm getting worried. He's been using all his free time training. One time, Aizawa-sensei even had to restrain him." Came a voice from floating invisible clothes.
"It's not surprising...not after his death..." Muttered the redhead as the room got gloomy and tense. Not many students knew Nighteye well but they could definitely see the effect it had on Midoriya. From waking up 4:00 in the morning to 10:00 at night he would take every chance to train. He probably would've gone longer if the 'Lights out' schedule weren't at 10:00 pm.
"Maybe we should talk to him...?" Mina advised with the tone of concern escaping from her lips.
"That would be better than letting darkness consume him." Tokoyami spoke up agreeing with Mina's idea.
Everyone than began chatting on ways to cheer up Midoriya and Miriro. After all, the death of his sensei hit him pretty hard too, even if he refused show it. However a single onyx-eyed girl kept her eyes glued to the training boy outside.
Momo Yaoyorozu. Class president after Midoriya handed the position to her and made Iida class rep. She wasn't close to Midoriya. They only time they 'talked,' was with the plan of saving Katsuki Bakugou after he was kidnapped by the League Of Villains.
When she first saw Midoriya, she thought he wouldn't get far. Yes his quirk was powerful but with that recoil it was impossible to be a hero. But over the months, time and time again her option of the teen changed. USJ, risking his life to save Asui and Mineta, and even jumping in front of a Nomu to save All Might. At first she didn't know about his weak form but looking back at it now having the information about the Nomu Factory attack, Midoriya most likely new about All Mights weak form the beginning and risked his life.
On top of that there was him winning the sports festival. He beat Todoroki when he was using both ice and fire. He was pretty banged up after the fight and was almost pulled out of the fight with Bakugou but with taking extreme measures from Recovery Girl he turned out exhausted. Bakugou knew this and they decided they would end it with one attack, Midoriya ending up as the winner at the price for falling unconscious for a week.
Then there was Stain incident. The famous villain known for killing and taking out heroes out of the job labed Midoriya as a "True Hero" while she wasted time with Uwabami.
Camp, saving Bakugou, Ultimate moves, Shiketsu High, Rescue exercise, and saving Eri. Every single one Midoriya had taken control unconsciously leading everyone as everyone followed. She noticed everyone felt confront in his plans and words, including herself. Until the point she became curious.
What shocked her the most was I-Island. He was able to catch up to THE All Might. The number one hero. Sure he was most likely weakened but that is most definitely an impressive feat.
Just who was Izuku Midoriya? What was his past like? Why did he choose to become a hero? What makes him so trusting? Ever since saving Eri she found herself asking these questions. She was just too curious.
"Yaoyorozu-san?" The voice snapped the pony-tailed girl out of her trance and bringing her back to the real world. She turned her head making eye contact with Asui. "Everything alright? Kero~"
Yaoyorozu gave a reassuring nod. "There's nothing wrong. Just worried about Midoriya-san."
"Well, we have a much more important matter coming up." Iida spoke catching everyone's attention. "The school festival."
"I forgot already! Aizawa-sensei just brought it up today too!" Sero exclaimed as Koda nodded with an equally shocked expression.
"Sensei said we could vote on what we're doing tomorrow so no need to get focused on it now. Kero~"
"Honestly I'm kind of nervous! Everyone will be watching won't they?" Toru exclaimed.
Ochako nodded deep in thought. She was nervous but for a completely different reason. It was about Midoriya. Of course everyone worried about him but she had realized something.
"You're totally like him!"
Mina's words echoed inside her head as she floated into the air in embarrassment while denying her feelings. But deep down, she knew she did. At first, she thought it was a fluke, but every time she looked at him her heart raced and her face got red.
"You like him, don't you?"
She denied it when Ayoma said it as well but soon ended up agreeing with him. That's why she decided she was going to confess to him at the school festival. Ochako wanted to confess after internships but things got complicated so she had to push back to the festival. She was going to confess knowing Midoriya was in a tough spot. It made her feel guilty, but she couldn't hide her feelings any longer.
"Well someone get Midoriya, It's almost 10:00 pm." Kaminari said seeing the time was '9:45 pm' on his phone.
Ochako was about to volunteer but someone beat her to it. "I will get Midoriya. All of you get some good night's rest. We have some big planning to do tomorrow."
Todoroki was the first to get up taking a final glance at his...friend Midoriya. The friend that saved him from himself and made him realize what was his. Leaving for his room, everyone else followed him parting for their rooms and saying goodnight, leaving Yaoyorozu alone.
"SMASH!"
The sudden yell snapped her out of her thoughts. She was staring at a shirtless Midoriya. He was much more chiseled than she thought. She examined his body, his toned six-pack, defined arms and calves, his green hair whipping around as he jumped tree to tree until he was a bolt of green lightning.
Her phone buzzed and she pulled it out. Her warning timer had gone off telling her it was 9:50 pm. "I've been staring at him for 5 minutes!?" She thought in shock. Placing down her phone, she walked outside to confront him.
"Midoriya-san!" Yaoyorozu called getting the greenie to stop moving and turn towards her.
"Yaoyorozu-san?" Midoriya spoke wondering why she was out here.
"It's late, you need to go to sleep before Sensei comes over."
"Five more minutes! Please!"
"I'm sorry Midoriya but I don't make the rules." She bit her lip wondering if she should tell him and decided to. "We're getting worried." She blurted out.
Midoriya's eyes widen in surprise. "Nani? ( What? )"
A tint of red spreads across her face in embarrassment. "G-gomenasai.( Sorry ) I didn't mean to blurt out. But all of us are getting worried. You train every chance you get, to the point were you one day collapsed. I know his death was hard but don't push yourself too hard. We're still first years."
He smiled softly in response making Yaoyorozu’s heart flutter. "I didn't mean to make you worried."
"A bit too late for that." Yaoyorozu cut in causing both of them to laugh. "I'm sorry, continue."
"As I was saying," Midoriya spoke putting his shirt back on. "I honestly didn't mean to make you worried. But I decided. At the moment of his death, I decided on the reason why I truly want to become a hero."
A small breeze past through the trees and bushes creating rustling noises. Midoriya's green hair and Yaoyorozu's ponytail blew softly in the breeze as the leaves fly past the two.
Midoriya clenched a fist. "I want to be a hero who saves people. Not just physically but mentally. Saving people from the hurt of losing someone close to them. I felt the pain of losing Nighteye, and so did many others." He makes eye-contact with Yaoyorozu, his emerald orbs sparking a fire of determination. "So I don't want anyone else to feel this pain. That's why I train. So I'm strong enough to fight against anything that stands in front of me."
It was Yaoyorozu's turn to smile softly as Midoriya's heart raced. She had just walked up to him placing a hand on his chest. "Us. All of us Midoriya. You're not alone, you never were. I'm sure all of us feel the same way so allow us to stand with you."
"Arigatou. ( Thank you ) I needed that."
Yaoyorozu removed her hand blushing. "No problem. L-let's go inside shall we?"
"R-right." As they both walked inside the U.A. dorms.
Behind a tree, a man with black hair tied up into a bun and red bloodshot eyes smiled. "So that's your reason. Not bad problem child...not bad at all." As he walked off with a smile on his face.
✦✧✦✧✦✧✦
Everything was on fire, building collapsing and thick smoke covered the skies. Cries of help were all faded into the darkness. A helpless Midoriya lied across the floor covered in wounds and dark laughs were heard. He looks up to see a black skull mask. "All..For...One..." Midoriya groaned trying to get up but All For One crushed him by his foot.
"How does it feel Midoriya?" He questioned gestating to his fellow peers, each and every single one of them was badly injured and inches away from death. "Your weak, your bonds only got those you swore to protect hurt. Friendship and bonds? They're just meant to be shattered."
The weight of All For One's foot got heavier on Midoriya's back causing him to grunt in pain. But that pain quickly changed to horror when he saw it. A Nomu. The same Nomu from the USJ attack.
All For One shifted himself behind Midoriya so he was holding his head up by pulling back on his hair, forcing him to look at his injured peers. The Nomu moves towards the closest person, Yaoyorozu.
"Don't touch her bastard!" Midoriya yelled beginning to struggle but remained useless as the Nomu picked her up with a chokehold. Yaoyorozu weakly clawed against it's abnormal strength but her attempts never fazed the monster.
Midoriya yells turned into begging as the Nomu opened a palm around her head, they both knew what was coming next. She turned towards him, watching as tears rolled down his face. "Gomenasai Midoriya. That I wasn't strong enough."
With those words the Nomu wrapped his hand around her head, crushing it.
"YAOYOROZU!"
Midoriya yelled reaching out his arms and almost jumped out of his bed, sweat cover his face and body, his hands were shaking in fear clawing at his face. "It was just a dream..." Midoriya repeated those words over and over until he felt his heartbeat calm down. However his hands were still shaky.
Deciding he wouldn't be able to sleep, he got out of bed and went inside of the bathroom. Cold water flowed through his hands. He cupped them allowing it to rather until he splashed it on his face. Midoriya repeated this process until his hands finally stopped shaking.
He walked downstairs into the living room seeing nobody else there. "I don't think I woke anyone else up. I'm glad." Before he walked inside the living room he had changed into his casual white shirt that read 'shirt' and green shorts. Reaching the fridge he grabbed a bowl dumping 'Cinnamon Toast Crunch' side and began pouring milk.
"Midoriya-san?" A voice called getting the greenies attention. Turning his head, he sees a half asleep Yaoyorozu in a black nightgown.
"You really don't need the '-san,' Midoriya is just fine."
"Midoriya."
"Nani?"
"The milk."
He turns back to his bowl and it was completely overfilled with milk running down the counter. He quickly stopped pouring and capped the bottle. "I wasn't paying attention. My bad."
After cleaning up the mess, Midoriya and Yaoyorozu sat next to each other on the coach as they both ate their cereal. "What are you doing up so late?" She questioned after swallowing a spoonful of her cereal.
"I was just about to ask you the same thing."
"Couldn't sleep." The onyx eyed girl replied. "I take it that you couldn't either?" He only nodded for a response gaining an awkward silence. "You have any idea for the festival?" Another silence and then she noticed Midoriya was gripping his spoon a little too hard. "Midoriya are you oka-"
She didn't finish when Midoriya placed his bowl down and pulled her into a hug. At first she had no idea what to do with her arms but then she felt something wet sting her shoulder. That's when she understood and wrapped her arms around him rubbing his back like a mother taking care of her child.
It took sometime before Midoriya calmed down and separated from the hug. "Gomenasai. I got my tears all over you." He apologized wiping his eyes with his hand.
"It's alright Midoriya. Sometimes we all have to let off some pain." Her eyes studied him watching him wipe his eyes, it was hard to tell in the darkness of the room but he actually had bags under his eyes. "Are you okay Midoriya?"
"Heiki. ( I'm fine )"
"You remember what I told you yesterday right? Let us help. Let me help. We're all worried."
Midoriya exhaled heavily through his nose deciding what to do. Making his choice, he took a deep breath and said the two words he had been holding back his whole life.
"I'm scared."
Yaoyorozu's eyes widen but said nothing for him to continue. "I don't mean for festival or anything like that. I mean...It's true that I train because of Nighteyes death but there's more to it. There's always the chance someone stronger is out there, possibly even stronger than All For One..."
The name brought shivers down her spine remembering the skull masked man. He was currently trapped in Tartarus but he caused destruction and panic in the short time he revealed himself. And the thought someone could be possibly stronger...
"All Might said I choose one person in Class 1-A about my secret...and I think I want you to be that person."
Once again Yaoyorozu was shocked at his words. "W-what about Uraraka?"
"She'll make a scene about it."
"Iida?"
"He'll get to worried and hold me back. I respect him but I don't want to burden him."
"Todoroki...?"
"He's still finding himself. There's no way I can place this on his shoulders."
"So why me?"
Midoriya interlocked his fingers tapping his thumbs together. "We don't know enough other much but I know you're not the time to make a scene but to respect others wishes. Yet in the short time we actually talked I felt calm and didn't worry about anything. My gut is telling me I can trust you." His emerald orbs met her onyx ones. "So will you hear my story?"
She gave a smile giving her full attention to him. "Mochiron. ( Of course )"
"Then let's go somewhere else. It would be bad if someone overheard."
So from then Midoriya took Yaoyorozu to Takoba Park and told her everything. Being quirkless, the sludge incident, All Might, One For All, his fated battle with All For One, all the way to here and now. "I...don't know what to say...You have definitely faced a lot on your own."
"Yeah...but it feels good getting that off my chest."
A silence filled the air, it wasn't awkward like before but just some time to take everything in. "Arigatou."
"For what?"
"For trusting me. I've been losing confidence ever since the fight with Tokoyami barely being able to slowly build it back up."
"Guess we both need our own heroes huh?"
"In that case. How about a deal."
Midoriya turned his head towards her. "What do you mean?"
"We both have our own problems and we need someone to lean on. So I was thinking we could be there for each other at anytime. You be my hero, and I'll be yours."
"Yoshi. ( Alright then )" Midoriya agreed with a smile on his face. "I'm counting on you."
Yaoyorozu gave her own smile. "Right. I'll be counting on you too then." Just then, Yaoyorozu's morning alarm went off making her turn on her phone. "Shoot! It's 6:00 am! We gotta get back to the dorms!"
Midoriya crouched down onto the sand. "Hop on."
She got on with no hesitation. If he could trust her, she could trust him. Green lightning consumed Midoriya as he began running down the streets. Air whipped around them and Yaoyorozu smiled feeling the cool morning air rush on her face.
In seconds, they had arrived at the U.A. dorms before anyone else could arrive downstairs. "Ohaiyou! ( Good Morning! )" Yaoyorozu spoke as Kirishima groggily entered the room.
"Ohaiyou." Kirishima greeted. Then everyone else followed along saying their 'Good morning's before sitting down.
"I'll be making breakfast today." Midoriya announced putting on a green apron.
"Eh? Midori! You can cook?" Mina exclaimed.
"More importantly, your not training?" Kaminari questioned. "Don't get we wrong, I'm glad your taking a break. Just surprising."
Midoriya just smiled tying a knot behind his back. "I just took some advice is all." He replied before walking off into the kitchen.
"Finally!" Toru sighed resting on the couch. "I'm glad someone got through to him."
"But who was it through?"
Ochako's eyes slightly widen at the question. She too was glad her crush had finally stopped pushing himself to the brink of collapse. But who was it? There was only one possible answer, after all, she was the only person who stayed back while everyone else went to bed.
Her eyes drifted to an unusually beaming Yaoyorozu. She was enterectic but today she seemed a bit more than usual. It also looked like she didn't get any sleep.
"Yaoyorozu-san?" Ochako spoke up catching the beaming teen off guard.
"Oh Uraraka, did you need something?"
"Did you get any sleep last night?"
The question surprised Yaoyorozu and clattering of pans were heard from the kitchen. "Heiki!"
The class laughed at Midoriya's antics while Bakugou just shook his head grinning. However their attention went back on Yaoyorozu awaiting for her answer. "N-no I didn't get any sleep last night. Why do you ask?"
"No reason." Ochako stated a bit to quickly before falling quite.
"Anyways..." Mina spoke up before the awkward silence could roll in. "What are we gonna do for the festival?"
The question instantly brought spark in Class 1-A's eyes and everyone began throwing in ideas. "Maid Cafe!" A small teen shouted.
"Hentai... ( Pervert )" Jiro said moving away from the grape haired boy.
"Honestly it's not such a bag idea. But it's worse when M*neta is the one who proposed it."
"Hey! Don't bleep my name!"
"Save it for later." Midoriya called removing the apron. "Because breakfast is ready!"
Those four words were the only words Class 1-A wanted to hear as they got up taking breakfast one by one. "This taste so manly!" Kirishima exclaimed after taking a bite.
Everyone else agreed. "Oi Nerd! You never told me you could cook!"
"You never asked." Midoriya said sitting down next to Yaoyorozu.
"When did you get close?" Mina questioned with a mischievous look in her eyes.
Midoriya sweatdropped. "I just sat down. Can you not question every action I take?"
Mina slowly picked up her fork stabbing into her food and putting it her mouth, all while never breaking eye-contact. "I'll be watching you..."
He nervously chuckled in response. "I'm in danger."
"That's it. Your no longer allowed to hang out with Kaminari or Sero." Jiro decided pointing her fork at him while Kaminari and Sero complain in the background. "Their 'memes' are dangerous."
"It can't be that bad."
"Two bros chillin' in a hot tub-" Jiro started.
"-Five feet apart cuz they're not gay." Midoriya finished shocking himself. "Yeah okay It's bad."
After the eventful breakfast everyone grabbed their stuff and walked to U.A. They arrived in their assigned seats awaiting for their Sensei to arrive. When he did, he just zipped himself up inside his sleeping bag. "Yaoyorozu and Iida. Since you both are class resprestinces, you take charge of the ideas from your peers for the festival. I will leave it up to you what you choose to do." And with that, he curls himself into a ball in the corner of the room falling asleep.
The classes spark from breakfast was instantly lit again when the topic was brought upon. "A mochi shop?" Ochako threw out.
"Ah! Something japanese!" Iida comment moving on while Yaoyorozu quickly wrote down the ideas on the board.
"Boo-" M*ineta didn't get to finish when he was suddenly gagged by Asui.
"Where can I hide the body?"
"Arm-wrestling tournament!" Kirishima yelled.
"Intense!" Iida commented once again.
"A fun house!" Toru cheered.
"Don't know what that is but let's see!"
"Crepe shop!" Sato
"A Dance!" Mina said striking a dance pose.
"Petting Zoo." Koda said nervously
"Handmade soba." Todoroki inquired.
"Even Todoroki!"
"Death match!" Bakugou roared with tensenaty flowing through him.
After a while, every idea the class had was up on the board.
O Arm-Wrestling O Fun House O Mochi O Feast of Darkness O Dance Performance O Boo? O Skit O Local History O Death Match O Hand-Made Soba O Asian Cafe O Crepes O My Twinkling Shows
"Now to eliminate those that are impossible, confusing, or inappropriate." Yaoyorozu picked up the measure imminently taking off 'Boo?' first.
O Arm-Wrestling O Fun House O Mochi O Dance Performance O Local History O Hand-Made Soba O Asian Cafe O Crepes
"Why'd you even ask!?" Bakugou yelled being a bit ingornite about 'Death Match' being erased. Then the whole class turned to argument of what they should do. Iida tried chopping motions and yelling "Quiet!" But failed gaining their attention.
However the schools ringing caught everyone's attention as it showed it was the end of the period. Aizawa slipped off his sleeping bag and walked towards the door. "You have until tomorrow to pick what you want to do. If you don't I'll make it public lecture."
Kaminari was thinking about calling him bluff but his Sensei's look told him not to test him.
✦✧✦✧✦✧✦
Class 1A was stumped. Currently, they were surrounded Yaoyorozu looking through the remaining list of choices they had for the festival. "This is hard..." Mina complained slouching in her seat.
"We can't even do cooking! That's basically competing with the Pro Hero Lunch Rush!" Kaminari exclaimed putting his hands up in defeat.
"Thats right." Shoki agreed. "It also wouldn't be fair if it was just us that we're having fun."
"Wait a minute. I think Mina's dancing idea is a good one." Todoroki spoke up walking towards the laptop. He took the laptop opening a new tab searching 'concretes.' A video popped up with two guitarists, a drummer, and a singer while people watched and cheered.
"Wow Todoroki. Did you become one of those party people?" The graped boy asked.
"No. It's just something I remembered when Mina mentioned dance."
"But were amateurs. I doubt people would want to watch a bunch of scrubs dancing." Sero said resting his arms on his hips.
"Then I'll teach you!" Mina cheered jumping back to her hyperactive self.
"Now that we got the dancing problem down...that just leaves the music."
Everyone turned their heads towards Jiro remembering her dorm room filled with musical instruments. Toru cupped her invisible hands over Jiro's. "Can you teach us! Please! You have such a good talent with music and song writing!"
"I-It's just a hobby that I do..."
Toru moved away so Kaminari got right in Jiro's face causing her to blush. He grinned his idiotic grin. "I think it's pretty cool that you can play multiple instruments! So whatta say? Can you teach us?"
"I...I'd love to." Jiro finished causing the class to cheer.
"Here we come School Festival!" They all shouted getting pumped for the next day.

Selfharm AU
Shouto Todoroki centric fanfiction
Inspired by this piece of art:
Or, to be precise, this certain part
@msbubbleswow1o1 I hope it is okay when I show this sinnipet of you work?
When I saw this pic I just had the idea "What if Shouto made the scar himself when he was little to get rid of his fathers half?"
I actually have a whole and through-thought plot, but you get the basic idea.
And this is the
Beginning
When Rei called her mother, Shouto overheard everything
Rei left the can with the boiled water behind and Shouto, being scared that his mother will hate him because of his father's side, decides to get rid of it before Rei can leave or hate him
He takes the water and pours it over the left side of his face (the scar is larger than in cannon)
Rei stumbles over him silently crying and giggling and calls the ambulance
Enji is furious and the whole family gets beaten up for their failure to protect his masterpiece
Touya runs away after that
Shouto is blind on the left eye but Enji isn't bothered by that, he thinks he can beat the self-destructing habits and the injuries out of his son – he's wrong
Shouto starts hurting himself more
He only ever hurts his left side and when he trains with his father he does everything to keep his right side unharmed
He refuses to use his fire
He gives himself frostbite with his ice-Quirk (lost two toes because of that)
He starts cutting himself and they have to hide all the knives and scissors in the household
He also stabs himself with forks and pencils
The older Shouto gets the harder he hurts himself
If you put enough force behind a blunt object it can penetrate skin as well
He also bites and scratches himself (sometimes he takes whole chunks out of his body)
With eight he starts breaking his hand or his foot by placing them between the door and the frame of it and then closing the door
After a while he starts using hammers to break his bones
He purchases "tools" with a stolen credit-card to harm himself even more (whips)
Rei stays at home and isn't send away because she's not at fault for Shouto burning himself
Natsuo, Fuyumi and Rei try to stop Shouto from injuring himself but it doesn't really work
After a while the three of them get scared of laughter – or, well, Shoutos laughter because he starts laughing whenever he hurts himself badly and with the time this maniac-laughter is the only one he has
Momo and Shouto become friends when she finds him at one of the rare parties at the Todoroki-estate
He was biting himself when she found him and she took care of his injury and distracted him enough so that he didn't do anything else that day
After that she was allowed to enter the house whenever she wishes to do so
Shouto is not allowed to leave the house because he could use about everything outside to harm himself
Shouto actually never thinks about killing himself because he wants to keep his mother's half alive
But he cuts off his fingers over the time and his whole left hand when he's eleven
Shouto does indeed know that he's causing his mother emotional pain but he also thinks that destroying his father's half is the only way to ensure that she keeps loving him
When Rei finds him after hurting himself instead of Natsuo or Fuyumi he always apologizes and it doesn't matter what he did to himself, he will kneel in front of her and beg her for forgiveness
He also doesn't care about the pain and what happens with the injuries, Shouto often goes training with Endeavor although he just broke his leg or something like that
Endeavor is actually terrified of this behaviour but he doesn't let it show
Shouto doesn't really care about being a hero or becoming anything at all – really, he doesn't even want to spite his father, he just wants to keep his mom loving him
but he figures that if he does good things, then his mom will like him more, so, hero it is
During the recommendation test he's constantly fighting the urge to harm himself but his father threatened him that if he wouldn't act like he should in public, Rei would be punished in his stead
He's still gnawing on the stump of his hand when he thinks nobody is looking
But the lack of stress relief and the fear of causing his mother more pain make him give off a really creepy aura and Isana dislikes him even more than in canon because he thinks somebody like Shouto really shouldn't become a hero
Shouto actually finishes as first place before Isana because he is so scared that if he doesn't that his mother will be hurt by Enji
Nobody knows about Shouto's mental condition because Endeavor kept it under wraps, the only ones who know what's wrong with the youngest Todoroki are: Momo, all the Todorokis', the private teacher Shouto has and the two doctors Enji hired so that they only take care of Shouto and nobody else
First days at UA
The first day at UA Shouto is just trying to wrap his head around being outside of the house without supervision for a long time
Although Momo is keeping a close eye on him
When they change for the Quirk apprehension test he doesn't care to change in a stall because at home everyone is more of less used to seeing all his scars and bruises and injuries - but most of the other boys of the class really are not
Except for Izuku who has his own bunch of scars, thanks to Katsuki
Shouto notices that
During the test Shouto is itching to harm himself again and uses the chance to overuse his Quirk whenever he sees fit
Izuku is constantly catching his eye with his familiar behaviour and with the way he uses his Quirk to hurt himself as well
Shouto isn't quite sure if Izuku is like him or like his mom but this boy is important now
Shouto talks with Izuku, Ochaco and Tenya after school but gets dragged away by Natsuo shortly after
During the first Villain vs. Heroes exercise Shouto gets the last proof for his theory that Katsuki is like Endeavor and that Izuku is like Rei and when Katsuki starts to beat Izuku up he's actual seconds away from jumping into the fray to defend the small boy
When Katsuki attacks Izuku, Shouto decides that the greenette is like his mom and that he needs to protect him and keep him close
After that day Shouto hates Katsuki
Shouto joins the Deku-Squad directly and Momo with him

Review: Fire in the Mountains
Fire in the Mountains by EllaBesmirched (El_Bell) AU: Fantasy Main relationships: Bakugou Katsuki x Todoroki Shouto; Katsuki and his multiple spouses Status: Completed Rating: Explicit
Official summary:
“I’ll do it.”
Enji froze, fingers curling into a fist at his side, and didn’t turn around.
Shouto froze too, feeling his own eyes widen in shock at the words that had come out of his mouth, at the fact that he had actually stood up, followed his father out of the room, and dashed after him all just to say… he’d do it? He would do it? Him. Shouto Todoroki. He would--
Enji finally turned around and fixed Shouto with an expression so scathing, Shouto had to fight to keep his chin raised. “You’ll marry the Barbarian King.”
Shouto blinked. “Yes.”
I came across this story earlier in the year and almost didn’t give it a chance because it centered around TodoBaku. I am so glad that I did though. It is so well written and captivating.
The setting is a marriage for diplomatic ties. Shouto is a 20-year-old prince of the Endeavor kingdom and Katsuki is the 28-year-old King of the Outlands’ unified tribes. Shouto volunteers to go in his sister Fuyumi’s place as Katsuki’s spouse. He’s worried about what the “barbarian” would do to her in general and afraid that she couldn’t carry out their father’s spy mission. Because ya know why would Enji ever NOT be a conniving asshole?!
Shouto A recurring theme is that Shouto doesn’t understand why the Outlanders’ customs are so different from his. He was raised to live his life in such a regimented way that it confuses and stresses him out to lose the predictability.
He doesn’t like people in his space and doesn’t like to be touched. A defense mechanism from his childhood that is constantly tested because the Outlanders are a VERY touchy feely people. It’s hard for Shouto and the Outlanders to understand this difference and Shouto snaps a lot early in the story.
Something I love about this story, though, is that it is a story of Shouto’s personal growth. He learns to open up to people, that he’s worth more than his father ever allowed, that he’s worthy of love and friendships and that it’s ok to be FREE.
Shouto & Katsuki When Shouto first meets Kastuki he THINKS that Katsuki is just like his father, evil and cruel. Immediately, the barbarians threw him for a loop when Katsuki flew in on an effing DRAGON and then they all get excited when Shouto loses his shit and lashes out with his magic. Over time he realizes that Katsuki just pretends to be cruel but is a caring man.
Shouto discovers that he is Katsuki’s FOURTH spouse and the others (Kirishima, Mina and Denki) he married for love and not political gain. Shouto struggles to figure out how to fit in when he feels no love for Katsuki and has to live in a shared room with everyone. Katsuki treats him with kind acts but Shouto is so convinced that he’s being conniving. He’s never known a kind act without a trick at the end and very few pure kind acts.
It’s interesting contrasting Shouto’s “civilized” world and the barbarians’. The way Katsuki twists Shouto’s thoughts on his head:
The Outlanders celebrate loudly because life is hard and the only thing they have is to be grateful for live;
Their clothing is actually more convenient than the Flatlanders’;
Shouto was taught to not acknowledge servants and not thank them. Katsuki calls him and his people out, “you’ve got pretty formal clothes and your pretty, stupid fucking ceremony and you all use it to cover up how fucking rude and cold and condesending you are.” DAMN! Shouto had never heard it expressed that way.
Shouto and Katsuki spend a lot of time together early in the story antagonizing each other. They both expect the worst and then live up to it. Little by little, though, they start revealing their true selves:
Shouto’s welcoming celebration. Shouto challenges Katsuki to fight him. Shouto gets so enraged because he thinks he hates Katsuki and gets a chance to go all out with his magic like he’s never been able to before. He knows that Katsuki can take it and doesn’t hold back. Katsuki learns that Shouto isn’t some pretty pretty little princess and Katsuki leaves a great quote that describes Shouto, “thought you were spoiled but you were really just caged, huh?” Shouto earns Katsuki’s respect in the end and maybe Katsuki gets a little of Shouto’s;
The fight against Dabi and Tomura. Shouto is badly injured while still recovering from injuries from the previous fight and new injuries. He instinctively protects Kiri with his life. After the fight Katsuki antagonizes Shouto to keep him moving during their hour long trek to Katsuki’s home village for help;
Katsuki repeatedly tells Shouto that he doesn’t have to do anything that he doesn’t want to and never forces himself on Shouto;
The Winter Solstice celebration. Katsuki surprised Shouto with an Outlander version of a stuffed sweet potato treat that Shouto had mentioned in passing. And they danced. Oh did they dance and maybe Shouto became a little aroused. Oh;
The nickname “Princess”. Katsuki starts off calling Shouto “Princess” as an insult but it soon becomes an affectionate nickname.
And the two of them letting down their walls a bit when Katsuki asks Shouto to use his ice magic for fun by making an ice slide. “You want me to. Use my magic. To make you an enormous. Toy.”
Katsuki and Shouto hide their feelings for each other and finally admit everything when faced with Enji coming to take Shouto back home. Enji’s ass with his deceptions and manipulating plans. Shouto doesn’t want to leave and knows that he loves Katsuki. He’s angry with himself for waiting so long, for waiting until they may be separated and never see each other again. But Katsuki finds a way. He keeps Shouto in the kingdom, even conceding some in the new treaty to keep Shouto by his side.
Family & Relationships Running parallel is the fuckshit mess that is the Todoroki family. Touya (in this fic Dabi is the eldest Todoroki son) was executed for trying to kill their mother. He was brought back by a necromancer. Natsuo and Fuyumi were just trying to fulfill their roles as royal children and keep their mother safe. Queen Rei is locked up in a tower due to her mental illness and there are suspicions that it was unnaturally caused. And then we have Enji’s ass throwing his weight around everywhere as is he was the rightful ruler. How could Shouto NOT be emotionally stunted when Enji kept him locked up as a tool?! All he was was something “pretty” for the nobility to look at and try to take advantage of. Sigh.
Touya, as Dabi now, remembers some of his past and keeps hinting at a family secret involving their mother but Shouto can’t figure it out. It torments him to see his brother like this. His brother that he WITNESSED being burned alive 10 years prior. Again, how did Shouto make it to 20 with his sanity intact??!!!
And here’s where we get to the complicated part. Are you with me? Good. Like I mentioned before, Katsuki has four spouses. He fiercely loves and protects them. The first three sleep with Katsuki and sometimes play with each other and the others. Shouto absolutely loses his mind the moment he finds out. Shouto knows nothing about intimacy so he really thinks they’re all faking it and it takes him a while to realize that there’s really love there. And then he starts hearing sounds at night. He’s disgusted and a little turned on and he doesn’t understand why. His puritanical upbringing clouds his mind and makes him feel so guilty for his thoughts. He’s barely touched himself, let alone had fantasies. He’s so uncomfortable even talking about sex. Each of the spouses tries to help Shouto break out of his shell. They gave him thoughtful wedding gifts and tried to engage him in one-on-one conversation.
Kiri is such a loving and generous soul. Oh, did I forget to mention that he’s actually a dragon who can take human form?! Yeah. So anyway, he took Shouto on an outing to an old dragon’s nest where they talked, ate and kissed a little. They had a discussion about love and intimacy and it opened Shouto’s mind to the fact that there are many types/levels of “love.” Mina for her part can’t understand why Shouto isn’t interested in sex and not with Katsuki of all people. And Denki is just a FLIRT! Taking advantage of how “pretty” Shouto looked at the Winter Solstice celebration and giving Shouto his first kiss.
But there is a hole in the family. Everyone dances around it at the beginning of the story. After visiting Katsuki’s home village, though, we learn that the hole was left by Izuku. Katsuki and Izuku used to be together in the early days but something tore them apart. Katsuki has so much animosity towards him it’s scary. There’s so much bad blood but also longing. And Shouto has an interesting reaction. With Katsuki, he was wary and slowly realized that Katsuki’s savageness just did something to him deep in his core that Shouto wanted to pretend wasn't true. But with Izuku, his inherent gentleness made Shouto want to be near him and let him in. It’s a heartbreaking situation because Izuku misses Katsuki and he sees that Katsuki is falling for Shouto. At the same time Izuku feels something for Shouto but doesn’t want to make things worse with Katsuki. It all comes to a head after Shouto and Katsuki’s joining ceremony when they ALL admit to having feelings for each other and it’s off to the races, kids! Cause Izuku’s gentle giant persona QUICKLY fades in bed and Katsuki easily falls back into his submissive role that only Izuku had seen before. Inexperienced Shouto is in for the ride of his life. That second to the last chapter in the story was HOT!! All aboard the TodoBakuDeku train. LOL Shouto “needed them both. Izuku to ground him. Katsuki to make him bold.”
The storyline with the necromancer (hello League of Villains) is interesting. But of course we don’t know WHY and WHAT is the group’s motive. We end the story with a cliffhanger of the fall of the Endeavor kingdom but what’s the end goal??!!! And why did Tomura keep mentioning to Katsuki that it wasn’t time for him, yet? So many questions and so little answers!!!! I’m so glad that the story is continued in “Fire in the Blood” that delves more into the aftermath of the displacement of the Todoroki family and Shouto’s continued personal growth.
