More photos from IWM Duxford, and another wee video. I've also got video snippets of when the B-17 landed, and also the moments when they first started up her engines one by one. It was amazing. If you look up her flying schedule on Sally B's official website, you might want to try and time your visit to Duxford around that time to see her take off! (Also the ground crew were super friendly)!!!
If you become a member of the Sally B preservation society, you might even be able to go on board and explore the insides!

They have one of the Concord airliners. You can go inside and marvel at how very 1960s it all is, with its pastel colours and draylon upholstery. Then you remember that it crossed the Atlantic at twice the speed of sound, complete with passengers, cargo and gallons of champagne. Why can't we do that today? Because we subsequently realised what a dumb idea it all was.

Golden Hour at Duxford. ARCo formation on the Battle of Britain. Sure it has changed over the years.
This week, as we mark the 84 years since the Battle of Britain, we remember and pay tribute to the Service and sacrifice of 'The Many. The pilots, plotters, factory workers, radar operatives, engineers, firefighters, ambulance drivers, anti-aircraft gunners and so many more. Their bravery and courage marked a defining moment of the Second World War.
The service has taken place annually on the 15th of September, the date chosen as Battle of Britain Day since appointed by His Majesty King George VI back in 1943. The day recognises the momentous point in the fighting when the Luftwaffe launched its heaviest bombing raids on London.

(1/2) Over the weekend I visited the 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum at Thorpe Abbotts and IWM Duxford so thought I’d share some pics in case it’s of interest to anyone!
The museum exhibits are mostly housed in the (original!) control tower pictured, the displays are a little scattershot so better if you’re already familiar with the history (i.e. watched mota) but it’s very personable with lots of personal collections & items!! Some of my fave things:
Detailed displays about the Bremen/Munster missions
I was really charmed by this map/diary- the missions the author flew are drawn on in the red lines & the simplicity of the handwritten notes is so stark and heartbreaking
THE FEZ!!!! (Actually belonging to Frank Murphy, but there you go)
(They had a whole display dedicated to Rosie as well which I didn’t take a picture of for some reason 😭 I think because it was mostly photos/info that weren’t necessarily ‘new’ to me esp having read the book but it was really sweet!)

Duxford is a village in Cambridgeshire, and near the village is the airfield that houses one of the sites of the Imperial War Museum. The IWM is on five sites – three of them in London. tThe main London one is on Lambeth Road. Then there is HMS Belfast berthed at The Queen’s Walk in London, and finally the Churchill War Rooms on Clive Steps off King Charles Street.
