New Blog Alert!
I wanted to separate the general chaos that goes on this blog from specific fandom related things, so I made a new blog. Stay tuned for nonsensical, nerdy ramblings!

here are some Shiggy headcanons i've accumulated from reading fanfictions and just looking at pictures of shiggy
Afraid of needles - phobia?
ADHD
hates rain - hates silent noise in quiet places
Body dysphoria - has to do with AFO near endgame
Arthritis
Curls up in a ball under his shirt hugging his knees and that's why the neck is so stretched out
Mild sounds irritate him - creak of a door opening, someone whispering, fingers hitting keys on a computer. wears earplugs for this reason
His favorite genre of game is life simulators (like harvest moon or stardew i guess idk ive never played stardew) he likes talking to the bachelors lol he feels loved by whoever he choices to be with in game
Played a lot of older games - hes into stuff like Megaman X/original Megaman - Touhou - mario 64 - Starfox stuff like that is the kinda games he played. His first console was a ps3 and he played little big planet
Hates sand - only after fighting snatch did he learn how bad it was.
Can touch rain but he hates rain as previously mentioned its one of the things he can actually touch but he hates it
is somewhat mature and not petty enough to hold certain arguments and would be the first to apologize depending on the situation and person. he wont hold it against himself to be certain stages of petty but certain times with certain people he can admit hes too old for this.
Likes sweet things (not extremely sweet) likes cake - something that still is a good memory from his childhood. strawberry cake.
He likes candy, especially strawberry flavored ones, but that sounds lame so he lies and says he prefers sour stuff.
Lowkey unhealthy - needs to eat better and should be eating more but he doesn't for several reasons including - he just doesn't be hungry, hes giving the LOV his share of food and hes a picky eater.
Coke and ramen kind of person - he will cook it himself he likes it in the water, it has to be cooked on the stove cause the microwave doesnt do it for him. he likes it when its gummy like mac n cheese
Not all greasy food, but fries, he loves those
Foods he doesn’t like include seafood
He doesn’t like extremely spicy stuff, it upsets his stomach.
Corn allergy
Hates liars doesn't lie or pretend to be things in that sense - like hes not gonna lie to your face if he doesn't like you he'll tell you he doesn't like you he wont pretend.
Ugly laughs - like a donkey
Sitting outside is a punishment for himself but also its kinda therapeutic in a twisted kinda way - this is because he was put outside a lot as a kid

always funny when i think about how i didnt think of myself as "into" fighting games until around when strive came out. yeah, i grew up playing the shit out of soul calibur II, III, and IV, and i played melee and smash 4, and i played a bit of skullgirls on the ps3 when it first came out. i remember playing clash of ninja and ultimate ninja, beating the fuck out of all my college friends in touhou fighters, and renting blazblue from the combination family video little caesars to play for an afternoon with a friend.
i remember getting frustrated as a kid, cause i was practicing combos in sc3, but i could never beat mashers. i really learned spacing with marth, and i knew how to run basic pressure with miss fortune. no one could beat me at soku because they didnt know the system mechanics like me. i just, yknow, i wasnt really into fighting games. yknow?

intrigued by what u love most abt yume nikki
like what made u go "oh damn this game is SUCH A GAME"
if u kno what i mean?
im glad you asked. well... holy fuck, i could talk about yume nikki for hours!! but... if i had to summarize it down, heere are some points:
its yume nikki!!! such a unique and different game from anything ive seen, even with its fangames. well if you look back at the gaming scene in 2004, then something like an rpg maker game thats NOT an rpg and actually a weird surrealism thingy was kind of crazy. it does seem to be inspired by the mother series, which has a lot of weird artsy stuff and also lsd dream emulator, also a game where you walk in dreams, which is self explanatory. also it utilizes rpgmaker mechanics in SUCH mindblowing ways, it doesnt even feel like it was made with it. it flows VERY well for a 2004 indie game.
the atmosphere and theming is so awesome. the NPCs who are completely indifferent to you, the worlds all connectin g together, etc. also, the art and music is really charming in kind of a nostalgic way, the aztec inspirations for the npcs, all the different sights and how desolate and lonely it feels, yet kind of still comforting. you know?? like the dreamworld is an escapism for madotsuki, but she still cant escape the horrors of reality..............
3. every part of it is very mysterious. a whole intigue of the game for many people has been what the dreams are really about!! of course there is also the developer kikiyama, who theres practically 0 info on. even though obviously people should respect their privacy, people still wonder what happened or why the game never got finished. i hope they're well....
4. the fanbase of yume nikki is one of the most cool ones ive seen. its one of those old fandoms from back in the 2000s that never stopped going, like touhou.. you can find a lot of old short little animations of yume nikki. theres the big viewed ones, but also ive found really obscure ones with under a 1000 viws, which shows how much people cared about it. even though the game was seen as dark, they were often really wholesome. theres also yume nikki fansites from back then, and a lot of cool fanart. even though the fandom was fairly small, its kind of like a window to how different the internet used to be. now its even more popular with internet horror stuff being more noticed recently.
its just really kind of heartwarming that so many people connected with a short game about isolation and anxiety posted on some forum site back in 2004 by an unknown person, i think.
5. the fangames!!!!!!!! there are so many fangames for this game, all because people liked the idea so much, hundreds of them wanted to try making one. ynfgs are always really charming to play, however none of them compare to yume 2kki ( the big one). its the closest ive ever felt to going to another world in a video game, even more than yume nikki itself.
because so many people have worked on it, 2kki has an endless seeming amount of content which is pretty awesome. some people think its incoherent because of how big the game is, but it always made it feel more like a dream to me. especially like one you would have as a child, falling asleep while being driven home from a birthday party or something like htat. fun fact: 2kki got started in 2007, before the final yume nikki update, which means there is a chance kikiyama might have even played it, which is pretty crazy...
well, thats my rambling about my favorite things about yume niki! lol i think thats too much text, oops. well, high five if you actually read that................. <:,-]

another day, another touhou off the list, although this time its far from being an easy experience.
nina's thoughts on Touhou 15 - Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom
Legacy of Duelist Kingdom features Yugi and the boys back at it again to defeat Pegasus! wait, thats not right… Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom features Reimu and the girls back at it again to defeat... somebody! LoLK is a very unique entry, having one of the biggest new 'gimmicks' of any of the touhous ive played so far.
LoLK's big new feature is a completely new way to play the game, the exciting PointDevice mode! (really just rolls off the tongue). as opposed to the standard touhou gameplay loop (which this game does have as well, under the name Legacy mode) PointDevice mode makes the game play sorta like doing a tool-assisted speedrun, apparently being inspired by I Wanna Be The Guy. in PointDevice mode, lives are removed, so if you get hit you're out, but as a tradeoff the game is filled with numerous checkpoints that you can infinitely continue from, for example pretty much every individual spellcard/phase of a boss is a unique checkpoint. this basically means you have infinite tries for every single spellcard but you HAVE to do each one no-hit (you get bombs to ocassionally cheat, but not very many and they never refresh since you never actually die).
this sounds like it would make the game super easy since you can just infinitely practice every section until you get it right, and you would be correct! unfortunately, ZUN was aware this made things easier, so the general difficulty of patterns and enemy spawns was jacked WAY up. i… really do not like this compromise. spellcards move way faster now and often require far greater perfection than usual once you get to the lategame, with multiple regular spellcards being pure survival sections where the boss is invincible, things usually reserved for climactic final phases. theres also a much higher amount of 'jumpscare' spellcards that suddenly kill you if you don't already know theyre coming, which in a normal run would be complete bs, only being justified here since you can just go again. ZUN definitely succeeded in making it feel like I Wanna Be The Guy, but thats not the kind of game i want to play. getting wiped by BS spellcards and having to do them over and over again got me genuinely mad at times, which has happened a few times in previous entries but it was typically me being mad at myself for screwing up, not being mad at the game itself like this one made me.
besides that, the gameplay is mostly similar to DDC, although once again they have changed how life/bomb pieces are dealt out. after each 'chapter' (basically wherever a checkpoint is in PointDevice mode) the game ranks you based on how many bullets you grazed multiplied by the % of enemies you killed, and if you got enough points you get a bomb piece in PointDevice mode, or a life piece in Legacy mode. this is probably my least favourite method of the ones that have been thrown around, since its really hard to organically tell when youve grazed enough, and during stages its hard to tell when a chapter will end. it incentivizes you to not kill enemies since you want more bullets to be onscreen so you can graze more, but at the same time if you miss killing an enemy and it goes off-screen then your chapter score goes down making the extra grazing still not add up, its a lose/lose either way.
for playable characters, we got Reimu and Marisa of course, Sanae is back (yay!), and Reisen appears as a playable character for the first time outside PoFV. Reimu and Marisa play exactly the same as their B movesets in DDC, so nothing new there. Sanae uses her two movesets from UFO but stapled together, so she shoots frogs unfocused and snakes while focused, which is maybe a bit lazy but i liked both of those weapons so im totally fine with it. Reisen has a strange weapon that has random angle spread shots unfocused, and heavy piercing vertical shots when focused. her most interesting feature though is her bomb, which gives you brief invincibility on activation, and then applies 3 shields to Reisen that block a death, although offer next to no i-frames. her bomb is probably really good in PointDevice mode, but i only had the patience to try that mode once and i went with Sanae. clearing PointDevice mode counts as a 1cc, even if its pretty much impossible to lose unless you just give up, but i dont think i care to try for a win in legacy mode. if you're curious. my retry total on my PointDevice run stacked up to 547 lol.
for the new characters, my favourite addition is probably Clownpiece. more faeries are always good, and Clownpiece is a pretty interesting one since she's a Hell Fairy, whatever that means. for some reason shes themed after the USA, wearing a star-spangled jumpsuit and featuring the stars and stripes in her spell cards, and holding an eternally burning torch similar to the statue of liberty. the concept of the fairy of hell being an American clown who drives people insane is somehow kinda fitting lmao, even if its completely absurd.
besides Clownpiece, i can't say i really cared for the other characters. the rabbits and lunarians weren't very interesting to me in Imperishable Night and they still really aren't now. Doremy is intriguing, being a ruler of the Dream World, but her stage and fight really didn't sell me on the concept of it being a dream. if you took the dialogue out i dont think anyone would assume the level was supposed to be a dream reality instead of just, flying through real outer space to reach the moon.
so that was LoLK. definitely my least favourite one so far, and by a pretty wide margin. i like what ZUN was trying to do here, and maybe with better tuning PointDevice mode couldve been a really fun new way to play the game, but it just made the game a slog of trying nigh-impossible spellcards over and over again until you get it right. i might come back and try a 1cc on Legacy Mode, but having experienced how insane the lategame gets im not exactly chomping at the bit to go back for another round. this game almost feels like karmic punishment after i got a little too comfortable with the last 3 games. if theres one good thing about PointDevice mode, at least its that your victory is inevitable, so i can stop playing.
i hate for the tone of this review to be so negative, but i just did not have a good time with this one. i wanna do something to lighten the mood though, so heres a silly doodle of clownpiece i made in ms paint :P

lab rat rambling. but like literally incoherent
once again on the hunt for 'what instrument does this stupid rat play' and my main issue comes from the fact that asura culture gives me all those possibilites for the wildest technological inventions; but im just so amused by the thought of this dude playing on the crunkliest most standard upright piano. like i get 'rehearsal pianist who despairs at the 25th person auditioning with the same goddamn song in a row' vibes from him. but like yea the thought is funny but i dont want to commit to it, because there are so many more interesting possibilities.
like i know luqqah is the 'electric harp with the most fucked up effect pedal' kinda person. but why is he so difficult T_T pretty sure i do have the choices narrowed down to 'something with a keyboard' bc i think it'd be the easiest for him to get into. but like. aaaaa
anyway currently enthralled by some random guy on youtube playing touhou songs on a celesta. (ive never played any touhou games but everytime i hear any music from it it kinda slaps)

Touhou 19, Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost (thats a mouthful, and UDoALG is probably worse) just got announced, with a demo releasing at the next Reitaisai, on May 7th (also available on steam!). a couple things ive noticed:
Tumblr media
Reimu is wearing her outfit from 17, and Marisa has a bow that looks like cat ears,
Tumblr media
the playable characters in the demo are Reimu, Marisa, Aunn, Nazrin, and Seiran, with the latter 3 being beasts themselves, and Reimu and Marisa wearing clothes that evoke the feeling of beasts. I wonder if this means that all, or most of the playable characters will be animals in some way. two spots between Marisa and Aunn might mean that we have 2 other ‘Main characters’, potentially Youmu (also because of her connection to WBaWC), and Reisen (bnuuy). Other options include Tsukasa, Ran, Chen, Mamizou, any of the other moon rabbits... The official announcement mentions greedy beasts, so we may even see an official ZUN art of Yuuma. Saki, Yachie, Urumi, or Kutaka all have potential. Stretch the definition of beast, and even Wriggle or Eternity could get in.
Tumblr media
Its a Versus game in the style of th9, but it seems that we’re still keeping some of the card stuff from 18. Which, while it isnt the longest a plot thread has kept up across installments, it’s surprising that we’re still dealing with the fallout of the incident from 18, considering that 13-18 all had nothing to do with each other.
long post, but i’m super excited to see what this game is all about. never played PoFV, but the style of gameplay seems really interesting. plus, gotta get that sweet lore.

touhou is a “kind of” answer in that i know a lot of the characters and i listen to so much touhou music (and my playlist has so many fansongs) but ive never played the games or followed the lore too closely

15. Poison by GFOTY
oh i love this one!!! this is like... i discovered this when i was getting into pc music and it was just this moment of like. holy shit not only can you do this with music but i LIKE IT. mm gotta love a song about murdering :3 that IVE BEEN KILLING YOU ALL OF THIS TIME is so satisfying to sing!! i actually dont know if i associate this that strongly w a character? its def a metamorphosis song cause those bad boys keep killing people. specifically its in my colette playlist, which feels right. its his vibe, both the murder and as a song she'd sing.
51. Flowering Night from Touhou
...how did this get into my top 100 ghjk ive never played a touhou and dont listen to much video game music. listen this is just a jam though ok! i dont actually listen to it that much, i think i just binged it for a while a few months ago, but it is really fun. i love the energy of it and the way it just keeps up so much momentum! it's on violet's playlist bc i found that that like... instrumental and very controlled energy fits how i see her magic. v weird and magical and focused.
