Imagine: Mike is back at his mall security guard job, and reader works at the support desk, but more specifically; is in charge of the lost and found.
1st time was because he found an forgotten phone (or something), and was told to take it to the lost and found, where he first met reader.
Then he starts being extra vigilent when walking around, looking for any item that looks misplaced or lost, no matter how unimportant, just as an excuse to go to the lost and found to talk to reader
(Ive never done this before, so sorry if i did anything wrong!)

warnings: none! just a nice little fluffy piece about a sad sad man lol <3
to the asker, i hope you know that i saw this in my inbox and literally squealed, i was waiting for someone to drop a mike request
i hope that this is to your liking, i was going back and forth trying to decide how to start this off and coming up with tiny little ideas to add
also this probably goes without saying, but i have never worked at a mall nor interacted with mall staff if i can help it so if anything sounds off, feel free to correct me
to anyone who also writes on tumblr, pls tell me how you avoid using y/n, i tried to work around it as much as possible but some times just called for it
Tumblr media
you hold your polite (albeit strained) smile to the blubbering woman walking away, unsure what to do with yourself as whoever she stands with rubs her back in comfortable circles. another lost wedding ring, gone to the test of time as long as the mall shall live: it's not that you didn't feel bad but after wedding ring #120, you kind of start to get used to the routine of things. lost and found wasn't your first choice when you first started working here but as long as you were getting a paycheck, you weren't going to complain. your side of the mall was rarely visited anyway, giving you the opportunity to do plenty of people watching when you weren't rummaging through piles of lost sweaters and purses.
you let out a quiet sigh once the customers are gone, sitting back in your seat and picking up the book you had once been reading; not like there was anything better to do. fully immersed in your book, you don't even notice the footsteps coming up to the counter. "um, hey." you jolt a bit at the sound of a voice, your gaze snapping from your book to whoever is standing only a few feet away. you have to hold back your reaction when you meet his eyes, tired but trying their best to look interested; it takes you a second to realize this is security and not another customer. "shoot, sorry." you mumble with an awkward smile as you sit up, resting your book in your lap to give the man in front of you your full attention. "how can i help you?" with a thin-lipped smile, he holds up a purse; from the looks of the logo on it, it's obvious this is designer.
you whistle as you take the purse from him, examining it with raised eyebrows. "well, you don't see this everyday. someone should come back for it, thanks." you say, flashing a grin at the security guard as he gives you a much more genuine smile. "no problem. if i had known lost and found got to see stuff like this, i would have put in to work over here instead." he says with a chuckle, folding his hands in front of him as he leans on the counter. "oh, we don't get interesting stuff that often, i promise you." you say with a roll of your eyes, putting the purse behind the counter; anyone in their right mind would come back for this thing. "enlighten me." before you can say something, the security guard outstretches a hand to you with a smile. "i'm mike, by the way. i work security." he says as you shake his hand, raising your eyebrows at him playfully. "(y/n). to give you some insight into how very little happens here, try and guess how many gachapon toys i have behind this counter."
and just like that, you've made a friend; not that you'd admit that mike wasn't sore on the eyes this soon. you just found it easy to talk to him considering you had never seen him around up until this point. after your first meeting, mike would regularly stop by whether he had something lost to leave with you or not: if you were lucky, he would even join you for lunch or walk you out at the end of a shift. little by little, you couldn't help but anticipate his arrival, the same relaxed smile always on his face much unlike the first time he'd approached you.
it's been almost a month by this point, you've had so many lost items deposited to you that after a while, throwing things away or reselling them (specific orders from your boss who was rather shocked at how many items you had in the back room) was required after a certain amount of time: not like anyone came back for them anyway. today was no different than the rest, the sounds of buzzing conversation in the distance from the more crowded areas of the mall. you pop the gum in your mouth as you paint your thumbnail a light-yellow color, scrunching your nose a bit at the smell of the nail polish. you blow softly on it, your eyes glancing up to scan your surroundings. what you see nearly makes you laugh. mike is walking over, seemingly at his normal pace before something catches his attention; whatever it is, you most definitely can't see it. when he stoops down to inspect it, he makes a face that you can only decipher as him being slightly annoyed. he catches you looking at him, an embarrassed smile on his face as he makes the rest of the walk of shame over to you when he realizes he's been caught.
"well, what is it this time? a broken watch? some cap with an unexplainable stain on it?" "what kind of person do you take me for? i'm just a faithful employee trying to do my job." mike says as he extends his arms with a playful smile, making you role your eyes as you abandon your nail polish to look up at the man in front of you. you close your eyes as you hold out your hand to him expectantly, waiting for him to drop something into your palm; after how often he came around, you made it something of a guessing game as to what mike was going to bring out. surprisingly, it's small, definitely plastic from the muted sound it makes when it lands in your hand. "it's a toy." "warm enough. you can open your eyes." you start to say something, opening your eyes and inspecting the item in your hand before you pause.
a small, plastic cat sits on a swing, it's paws holding on to the small chains attached to a brightly colored tab; it's obvious you could hang this off a shelf. your cheeks redden a bit as a sheepish smile grows on your face, pushing a piece of hair behind your ear as your other hand holds it up to inspect it further. you'd never actually stopped at the capsule toy machines yourself, starting your collection only a few weeks after starting your job when they popped up so frequently at the counter. "you like it?" you blink at mike as he smiles fondly at you, one hand propping his chin up; you swear you can see a hint of smugness in his gaze. "it's..yeah. it's cute." you say, unable to help the way you giggle a bit as you hang the toy on the edge of the counter. "good. better hope no one come's looking for it." he chuckles softly, his eyes dropping from yours for a moment as you stare in delight at the newest addition to your collection. "i wouldn't give it to them anyway. not knowing you got it for me." mike's lips part a bit in shock, a scoff of disbelief leaving him despite the smile on his face as you smile up at him knowingly. he tries to defend himself, stuttering to say something before you're called by one of your coworkers. "duty calls." you giggle as you rise from your seat, pretending not to notice the way mike is still trying to recover from being caught as you make your way over to your coworker, a smile tugging at your lips.
SECOND ONE SHOT IN A WEEK HOLY MOLY THIS IS NEW to the asker, i hope you enjoyed this, i tried to add my own little spin to things just to give it that little extra romantic flair lol BUTTT i hope that all of you are having a good rest of your day/night/afternoon and stay safe! :D

[ID: Four stickman memes. They are: a crying stickman laying on its back in a pool of tears, hands over its face. A stickman grabbing another's cheeks and screaming in their face. A stickman biting its own arm bloody. A red-eyed teary stickfigure grimacing and holding up a thumbs up. /end ID]
^ just finished twatf moodboard. my thoughts under the cut
genuinely so good. i am sick. i am wailing. i am going to throw up.
ok i lied it wasnt like, groundbreaking, but i did enjoy it! and it did give me new kinds of mental illness. im not typically into the "overpowered protagonist" trope at all but i feel like in this case it was more of a vehicle for the philosophy of the novel than the actual. point? im not a literature analysis person haha
i doubt i would have read this novel if it weren't by singshong. it is just generally not my thing. but im glad i did! i liked the character and i thought it was quite clever and funny, the world building was interesting (despite how overly complicated it is) and some parts made me so. oughhhbg. tearing my hair out
i also really enjoyed looking at this from a "how it compares to orv" standpoint (that's also the main reason i decided to read it). i liked seeing the "prototype" ideas in here that resemble parts of orv that were more developed/refined. and i liked the most specific messages that resembled orv's! there were a few bits regarding walls and connection that made me want to erm shrivel up and die
i guess i didn't really understand the ending but i don't think it was awful. those last 3 chapters are honestly what was worst to me, if i had stopped reading on chapter 244 i might have been happier with the openness of it. seeing all of jaehwan's friends dying and sirwen being left alone in the world was depressing as hell and didn't really feel necessary
orv is known for having everything in it and managing to pull off the most unhinged plots and details so i enjoyed seeing that same principle in twatf dsdjskks it threw a lot of things that i didnt expect at all and a lot of them were absurd but all together i think it made it work
goddd some parts just hit very close. maybe not the overall themes but some specific sections made me put my phone down and stare into space... the fall of time arc... the conversation jaehwan has with the long lived race after he's figured out the unclothing... what andersen tells him before she chooses to fight myad... many such cases
some of the criticisms for it that ive seen online are about the bad translation which is fair but i dont think that necessarily reflects the quality of the actual novel? idk the crappy translation and many typos did make it harder to read but i was still able to mostly understand what was happening and i got used to it pretty quickly. i do wish that the side characters were more developed, i was really interested in them and it felt like a lot of their development was dropped or forgotten, but i did love what growth was shown
i liked jaehwan!!! he is such a sopping wet silly guy. guy who is in the horrors forever. guy who is a billion years old but not actually but yes he is. guy who is so autism eyes incarnate. i liked him as a character and i liked following his journey even with his at times repetitive ideas and simple op solutions to everything. it was fun!
i enjoyed the characters in general, karlton grew on me for some reason lol... i liked anderson and runald a lot also... i liked how despite his identity as a lonely existence that works alone, jaehwan did actually forge so many bonds with people he met and did reciprocate them! him and yoonhwan, him hiring claire and meikal for govt positions when he became master of gorgon, him training with chunghuh, his care for runald and anderson, him verbally calling the fallbringers his friends when they reunite, even eventually his friendship with beastlain! i wasn't expecting him to make so many connections because of how set he is on doing everything alone, so i was really happy to see that he does consider them friends and isnt just coldly moving through the world alone, despite what his actions say
really liked the whole lore about [clothes]. i thought that was really cool. did not like the repeated instances of sexual harassment and pervy lines throughout the book
ive been telling people to read orv left and right, but in contrast twatf is a kind of novel that i dont think i would necessarily recommend to anyone (especially not to anyone who wasn't already an enjoyer of this genre and/or more "out there" plots in general) but i did enjoy reading it myself. however i would say that it provided some cool/valuable/fun insight into orv and singshong's writing in general so maybe i would recommend it to someone who has already read orv and wanted to expand on that
overall i did like it!!! i dont think ill be rereading it any time soon but i had fun reading and stewing over it :)

Fem!Monster!Reader x Reaper Nurses - Tender Care ♡
Today was... not your day.
Firstly, you woke up with a pounding headache, your phone screeching in your ear. You sat up with a startle, which wasn't a good idea, because the sudden movement from laying down to sitting made your head spin momentarily. Picking up your phone, and FUCK, Malak was calling you. At 4:30 in the morning.
Clearing your throat of your sleepiness, you answered the call while standing up and starting your morning routine, trying to pretend that you hadn't just woken up.
His voice was loud and firm, intensifying your agonizing migraine. You had to jerk your head away from your phone and lower the volume before continuing.
Same old, same old... a mortal running amok. Still, it was probably bad if he was calling you. You were essentially an errand girl for the other monsters. You didn't have sharp claws, or any special powers, just some spindly little legs. Good only for chores, as Malak so loved to say... but at least your errands usually didn't start till six... and end at midnight if you were lucky... okay, so maybe things weren't as great as you tried to paint them as. At least you were witty, sharp, and you got along with the... majority of your fellow monsters.
But alas, luck was not with you today. Or was he? Because you were being paired with your least favourite co-worker.
Lucky was probably more demeaning than Malak. Not that he thought that you were only good for chores, because he didn't think you were good at anything. No, all Lucky liked about you was your body. Still, he always found little things to criticise about you. Too big here, too small here, not enough skin showing, not enough makeup to be worth anything to any man, not enough, not enough, not enough. You tried to not it get to you, but it hurt.
Talking about the jackass, he was currently babbling on about his latest victories, and how great he was, while also making pointed comments about your eye bags and occasionally trying to guess your cup size. You would rather rip your intestines out through your mouth than tell him, but he was getting really close...
You walked straight into a pole. You sluggishly rubbed your bruising nose as Lucky laughed at your misery. You wished Penny or at least Hangry was here. At least Hangry wouldn't laugh. At least Penny might worry about you, or more specifically, how your face would look in a selfie.
You felt so tired.
Fortunately, your sluggish and sad behaviour meant you didn't react to Lucky's jabs. You didn't feel like you were hearing them at all. Your legs felt shaky and unstable underneath you. You looked down to the ground to avoid Lucky's gaze.
Where had your legs gone?
Oh.
Oh.
You were on the ground.
Your knees, palms and chin stung terribly and you felt dizzy and sick. Laying your head on the floor and closing your eyes, you begged to no one in particular to make it all stop.
"No one in particular" was merciful.
When you woke up, you felt warm and snuggly. Barely itchy but comforting, crisp, cotton sheets, dim lighting (thank Malak), bandaids on your grazes and an IV in your wrist. You were in the hospital.
You were picking at the medical tape holding your IV in place when a loud, piercing beeping filled your ears. You wanted to clutch your head in your hands, but you couldn't use your IV hand, so you settled for one hand and burying your other ear in the pillow.
Soon, a gentle click as the door to your room opened, filling the room with unwelcome light. You groaned in pain but soon felt a cool, smooth glove petting your wrist gently.
"Sorry, hun, just gotta change your IV bag, okay?" You had forgotten how much you loved their New York accents.
She removed the empty bag from the stand and replaced it with a new one. You immediately felt the cool liquid dripping slowly into your wrist. She playfully scolded you for pulling at the tape and started pulling it off, but she stopped when you whimpered at the tugging of the needle.
"Hey, it's okay, I'll go slow." she said, as she pressed her thumb onto the needle to hold it in place. She shushed you as you shifted around uncomfortably. It wasn't the usual shushing you got from Malak or the monsters who didn't like you. This was calming, every "shh" making you lie further back into the pillow. She slowly pulled the tape away as she comforted you until it was gone, and replaced with a fresh new piece.
She left after that, presumably to tell the other nurses about your state and then see to another patient.
You rolled over and went back to your peaceful slumber.
Over the rest of the day you would wake, meet another nurse, she would bring you food or a drink or medicine, she would comfort you and you would go back to sleep to do it all again a few hours later.
You were terribly overworked, the third said, burnt out, said the fourth. In need of some tender loving care, they all said.
You stayed in hospital until the next evening recovering from your fever and then put on bed rest for a few days, scheduled for therapy for a few weeks for your built up emotions and feelings. Throughout, the nurses would always visit you, comfort you, love you. And, you had to admit, you loved them too.
You should overwork yourself more often.

this is a long one feel free to elaborate on it 😚😚
so softdom!spence ofc (our faves)
and you guys and the bau gang are just hanging out and obviously sex comes up and they all say that it's obvious your the dom in ur relationship and Spence is like 🤨🤨. And you play along w it cause ur embarrassed asf and they keep teasing him for it cause he seems so submissive. So hes very 😠😠😠
Long story short fast forward you guys get home and he's WRECKING YOU and you left your phone at the bar so a few of them come to return it to you. Blah blah they hear wayyy more than they meant to and Spencer waked up to a bunch of horrified notifications from his friends lmaoo
wow I got carried away
-🧁
i also got carried away 😳
— —
they have this idea of spencer, and watching your dynamic that night they all seem to agree that he’s the type to respond to your every whim. and he is, but that’s only because he likes to treat you so well outside of the bedroom, because you live to make him happy in it.
so when they catch you shaking your empty glass in front of spencer and he wordlessly grabs it to get you a new drink, only placing a little kiss on your cheek, penelope breaks out in a little giggle.
“you’ve got that boy wrapped around your finger” she quirks an eyebrow but you wave your hand to dismiss her
“it’s mutual, we’re both hopelessly wrapped around each other’s fingers” you smile, darting your eyes across the room to see spencer leaning against the bar.
“sure you are, but you’re clearly the one in charge” emily jumps in to clarify, and you shake your head again as spencer slips into the booth beside you and places your drink down in front of you
“what are we talking about?” he asks,
“we’re just talking about how y/n really seems like she’s the one on top if you know what I mean” penelope giggles. but you can almost feel the heat radiating off of spencer next to you. when you turn your head to look at him he’s looking back at you with a confused expression.
“is that so?” he asks, folding his arms and leaning back in the booth
“yup, you’re like her little lap dog, always running around after her” emily says, pointing to your fresh glass of wine on the table with a smirk.
“ah i see, so that makes me the submissive one? just to clarify?” he asks and they both nod
“well that, and your whole personality” peneople says, growing looser lipped with each sip of her drink.
by the time you make it home you hope he’s forgotten, or at least cooled off enough that he doesn’t care. but the second the door shuts he’s got you pinned up against it with his hand wrapped around your throat, just tight enough to cut off your breathing a little.
“im the submissive one huh?” he growls “you like the idea of that? you like the team thinking that you’re the one in charge?”
your chest is already heaving with each labored breath as you look up at him.
“no sir, im sorry sir” you gasp
“you were a bad girl tonight, you know that don’t you? teasing me, riling me up like that” he groans as his other hand slowly creeps up your thigh and comes to a stop right against the fabric of your panties. slowly he runs a finger back and forth along the soaked fabric, watching the way you come undone so easily.
“if only they could see you, such a desperate little thing. fucking soaked and ive barely even touched you. they don’t know you like i do, they don’t know that im in control, always”
“m’sorry— uh— please...” you whimper and he must take a little pity on you then.
“fine, because you used your manners like a good girl” he whispers against your ear before he drops to his knees, hooking his fingers in the elastic of your panties and sliding them down your legs. then he’s spreading them apart and burying his face between them. sucking gently against your sensitive clit for just long enough that your legs begin to shake.
“oh god— fuck— spence!” you moan, your fingers twisting in his hair. but he stops, rising up to his feet again and placing a kiss on your lips, his tongue diving into your mouth so that you can taste your own arousal.
he takes a moment to unbuckle his belt and pull out his cock, it looks painfully hard and flushed in his grip. when his hands come to rest on your backside he leans in close, “im gonna need you to jump for me baby” he growls, and you obey.
and then he’s got you pinned against the front door and he’s buried to the hilt inside of you. you can’t help but press your face into his shoulder to stifle your borderline pornographic moans.
“no” he commands, “i wanna hear you, no holding back”
so you lean your head back against the door, and it bangs against it just a little each time he thrusts into you, forcing a little yelp out of you each time.
“did you like pretending earlier?” he teases, “did the idea of you being in charge make you wet?”
“uh— ah, no!” you moan
“really? i don’t believe you” he almost chuckles, clearly enjoying the absurd time it takes you to form a sentence while he’s so deep inside you.
“i was turned on because— oh god— because i was thinking— uh! thinking about this” you manage to moan.
“about what sweetheart?”
“about what you were gonna do to me—” you have to take a break to breathe, “i wanted you to— uh”
“you wanted me to get angry?” he growls, and you can only nod your head.
“well that’s not something a good girl would do now is it?” for a moment you can see the excitement flash behind his eyes before he manages to hide it again. and then he’s picking up the pace, pounding into you so rough that you can feel tears pricking at the corners of your eyes.
“aw are you gonna cry?” he teases, “i thought you wanted me angry, is this too much for you?”
you can’t summon anything more than a meek “no, i— i can take it” as the tears start to flow.
“hm, doesn’t look like it. maybe you’re just too tight, can’t take my cock. you really shouldn’t get yourself in trouble if you can’t handle it” he doesn’t let up as his hips thrust in and out, forcing your body against the hard wood of the door over and over and you grown closer.
“im sorry” you whimper, “im a good girl! i can take it, i promise— ah! please” it’s loud and desperate and almost a cry.
“you sure, you want me to fill up this tight little pussy? you want me to take what’s mine?” he asks, thrusts growing sloppier as he nears his own climax.
“fuck! yes! fill me up, im a good girl i swear” you moan as you cum, fingernails digging into his back through the fabric of his shirt.
it only takes another two or three thrusts before he’s spilling deep inside you, pushing it in further with a few lazy thrusts as he comes down.
the following morning you wake to spencer sitting bolt upright in the bed next to you, his phone in hand. on instinct you look over to the nightstand to grab yours but it’s not there. so you sit up too.
“what’s up, have we got a case? i can’t find my phone?” you grumble, rubbing your eyes and turning to spencer, but his eyes are blown wide and his cheeks are flushed red as he looks back at you.
“penelope’s got it” is all he says before he passes his phone to you and your own eyes bulge as you take in the messages.
penelope:
hey loverboy y/n left her phone at the bar, gonna drop it over on my way home x
i went straight home instead
okay im lying
i went over but i heard... noises. the specific kind of noises that people make while they’re...
i wish i didn’t have ears 😳
tell y/n i hope she survived

Im actually unsure if ive sent a request already (if i did im sorry i have1 terrible memory T-T;;)
But if not would it be okay to request for an GN! MC who the brothers realize was a big idol back in the human world but they never said that to them? Like maybe they found through magazines or internet or smth?
Hope this is okay and have a good day!!
Awww honey don't apologize! Also thank you so much for the request! You have an amazing day too!
This is such a interesting and hilarious ask! This is going to be super fun to write hehehe :3
(Oh and just a general fact for anyone who comes across my blog I try to always make my MC gender neutral unless a specific gender is requested.)
Tumblr media
Lucifer
Lucifer: For some reason there have been a lot of attempts to summon me from the human realm.
MC: Oh? That really works?
Lucifer: Well not always but we occasionally they get it right. But that's the not the issue here.
MC: Oh did they ask for something weird?
Lucifer: I got 22 summons. 18 of them had your name in their demands. And I checked their identities, they are not related to you, in any way. Mind explaining what's going on?
MC: *embarassed* I was slightly drunk on stage one day and might have told the people as a joke that if I ever went missing, they could try asking the devil for me.
Lucifer: Your people? Do you have cult up there?
MC: Well cult is a strong word. Fanbase is the more commonly used term...
Lucifer: How many people?
MC: Um...
Lucifer: How many more times will I be summoned MC?
MC: Um a few million times?
Lucifer: *exasperated dad noises*
Mammon
Mammon: MC what is net worth?
MC: Eh I'm not sure but maybe sum of assets or something
Mammon: YOU HAVE 20 MILLION WORTH OF ASSETS?
MC: Ah well I don't really accept it as mine cause there's a lot of people involved so I signed it over to my parents anyway.
Mammon: BUT HOW DO YOU HAVE THE ASSETS?
MC: 5 years worth of good record and merch sells are enough for it suppose?
Mammon: Records...MC you were a famous singer in the human world?!
MC: Ah well idol is what they called us. We had to dance a lot too.
Mammon: HOW COME NONE OF US KNEW THIS?! MC THIS IS HUGE WE CAN EVEN MARKET YOUR SKILLS HERE AND WE WILL BE RICH!
MC: *sigh*....this is why none of you knew.
Leviathan
Levi: MC can I tell you something strange?
MC: How strange are we talking?
Levi: Like when I saw you for the first time, you looked awfully familiar.
MC: Ah do I resemble some character you like?
Levi: An idol actually. There was this human world group that was a big hit for five years! But then they disbanded two years ago. You look like my favourite one. *Pointing to old poster*
MC: *looks at themself in ridiculous blue hair* Ahahhaa thanks Levi although I gotta admit that is my least favourite look.
Levi: You even have the same name as them it's almost uncanny- wait. Did you say 'MY least favourite look'?
MC: Guilty as charged....
Levi: YOU'RE ACTUALLY MC! THE MC! THE IDOL MC! *falls on the ground*
MC: Levi you okay?! Calm down it's-
Levi: MC IS IN MY ROOM!? MC IS SITTING NEXT TO ME?! MC IS LIVING IN THE SAME HOUSE AS ME!? MC GOES TO MY SCHOOL!? MC IS MY BEST FRIEND?!
MC: Yes Levi...Yes to all of them now calm down please! You're going to have heart attack!
Satan
Satan: MC come here for a minute would you?
MC: Yes, Satan?
Satan: So I tried to procure some human world magazines for Asmo and ended up going through them myself and *flips to a page and pointing towards an old picture of you* by any chance is this you?
MC: Haha didn't expect you to recognize me with that get up.
Satan: So when were you going to tell us you're about your fame in the human world?
MC: Does it even matter? It has been two years since I've last been on stage I'm sure people have forgotten now.
Satan: The recent article disagrees. *Reads from magazine* "MC hasn't been active in any of their social media accounts recently. While they did tend to go on long breaks of inactivity, this hiatus has been stretching for 5 months. They haven't even appeared in any of their fellow member's pictures either. An interview with one of the members said, 'They haven't even been answering texts nor calls. Their parents tell us they've gone away for a while but won't tell us where."
MC: Jesus I leave for six months and they make a whole mystery novel about me.
Satan: Well it's rather fun to keep the people on their toes. I can think of ways to fuel this fire.
MC: Satan no-
Asmodeus
Asmo: *comes running into your room* MC! How could you not tell me!?
MC: Eh? Tell you what?
Asmo: That you had a partner in the human world already?! And that you both are a FAMOUS POWER COUPLE!?
MC: Eh? Who said I was-
Asmo: Don't you lie to me! *holds up an edit playing on his phone* Look at these two people under the same umbrella! You're the one holding it aren't you!? Who are they MC? Do you love them more than me?!
MC: *sigh* No Asmo, they're just a friend who liked to screw with the paparazzi. And the paparazzi was over eager with us cause a lot of people loved shipping us.
Asmo: And why were you shipped with them?! I'm clearly a better match!
MC: *scratches head* Ah probably I used to pull too many pranks with them on stage and we were given a lot of duets and dances together.
Asmo: Stage? Duets? Dances? MC ...were you an IDOL?!
MC: ....yes?
Asmo: *squealing* WAIT TILL I MAKE YOU BECOME AN IDOL HERE TOO ALONG WITH ME SO PEOPLE WILL SHIP US INSTEAD!
Beelzebub
Beel: MC I heard from the others that you used to be a famous idol.
MC: Ah they told you too? Atleast your reaction is much calmer.
Beel: I heard famous people get lots of gifts from fans! Including snacks and candy!
MC: Haha we did. Only we weren't allowed to eat them.
Beel: ...but it's your gift. Of course you're allowed to eat them?!
MC: *sigh* Being in a idol group meant having to maintain your looks at all times. And weight was a big issue. I remember during tours we only had to live off apples, cucumbers and pea soup for a week.
Beel: That doesn't sound nice at all. *sad Beel noises* Here MC. *gives you half his sandwich* You can eat as much as you like here!
MC: Thank you so much, Beel.
Belphegor
Belphie: Did you get enough sleep being an idol and all? Beel told me you used to be one.
MC: Between late night practices and early morning workouts? I managed on three hours of sleep.
Belphie: That's less than half the ideal amount for humans.
MC: Ah well all of us needed to be perfect with the performance or we'd be screamed at or worse suspended.
Belphie: Performance for people who only need to see your face to start screaming. So much wasted energy. It's good that you left. Adoration from a bunch of strangers isn't worth losing sleep.
MC: I know right? It is nice to have a lot of people love you maybe but if I can't even be awake enough to appreciate them... what's the point?
Belphie: Come here. *wraps you up in his blanket* I help you catch up on the years of sleep you've missed.
MC; Thanks, Belphie.

Tinder Matches
Karmagisa Week 2021, day 1 prompt: Matching  wordcount: 1600
----------------------------------------------------------------
The fact that Nagisa had a tinder account wasn’t something he really shared with anyone. At the time, he’d created it as a joke, a way of amusing his friend’s stupid suggestion. According to Kayano, it truly could be the solution to his lack of experience in the love life department. Nagisa hadn’t been too sure about that. He was more than aware of the application’s status and, no, he wasn’t really interested in finding people to just have sex with.
Yet, somehow, he still found himself swiping through people on the app one night. He was alone in his room, a little bored, and perhaps even a little too tired after a day’s worth of teaching. None of the people he came across really interested him much, although he had to admit that he’d probably give them a shot if he saw them in real life, just because he wanted to believe in the best in people.
This app, however, gave little to no information on someone’s personality. Then again, some people were very clear about looking for someone rich to provide for them, which Nagisa guessed his teacher’s salary wasn’t exactly right for, and he supposed that also said something about their personality and what they were like in a relationship. Nothing Nagisa really wished to deal with.
After swiping left on complete strangers in fear of one secretly being a stalker, murderer, or just having horrible table manners, he suddenly stopped when a familiar face popped up on his screen. the red hair, the golden eyes, that all too familiar smirk. Nagisa recognized exactly who he was seeing, yet somehow couldn't exactly process the idea. it just didn't seem entirely right.
Someone like Karma wouldn't need to use tinder, right?
He found himself staring at the title picture for a while before he realized he could scroll through and see more. it wasn't like he didn't know what karma looked like... but... he sure was curious about what karma was putting out there.
It didn't appear to be all that special at first. A selfie in a casual outfit, a picture of him at a bar with people Nagisa didn't recognize, a traveling picture, but the last picture was something else. This picture appeared professionally taken, or at the very least it wasn't a selfie and the picture was set up. Karma was posing in it, after all. Posing in a suit, the jacket in his hand, thrown over his shoulder as he glanced at the camera with those devilish eyes. Nagisa was nothing but taken back by it.
He shouldn't be staring, should he? This was his close friend and fellow assassin graduate, the staring was just weird. Yet, somehow, he couldn't look away from the picture and thought back to when he’d first met Karma, so many years ago now. He’d felt the same sense of awe back then. Karma was just so perfect, how couldn’t he. This picture, him as an adult looking like a literal model, was like a visual representation of everything Nagisa used to feel Karma was.
The sudden noise of the train passing near his apartment woke him up from his state. suddenly turning very red, he frantically moved his hands and went to swipe left, except his phone nearly fell out of his hands in the process. He caught it, hands all over the screen and, through his own fingers, he could see Karma being swiped right.
no. no nonono. please go back
Nagisa fumbled with his phone, hoping to undo his actions, but before he could do anything, a message popped up on the screen. He was surprised by it to say the least.
‘you've got a match’
A match. He matched. but that meant... Karma had swiped right on him as well?! why would he- probably as a joke. he probably came across nagisa and thought it was funny, right? Nagisa had to assume that was the truth, although deep in his mind a thought echoed around saying the exact opposite. Maybe he wanted it to not be a joke.
After panicking for a hot minute, his phone made a ping sound, indicating he’d gotten a message. He was too scared to look. Somehow, before even opening the message, he could already sense who it was from. Sure enough, once he finally did gather the courage to check the notification, his fears were proven right. This was the worst situation.
Karma: well well well, didnt take you as the tinder type
He considered ignoring it. What was that called again? Ghosting? Yes, he could ghost Karma. If he didn’t respond to the message, perhaps nothing else unfavourable would be happening. Well, Karma would probably mention it to him the next time they spoke in real life. That would probably be even worse. It wasn’t like he could ignore Karma for the rest of his life. It wasn’t like he wanted to.
Nagisa: i'm not
Karma: yet here you are.
Karma: swiping right on me ;)
The cockiness almost oozed out of the message. Nagisa was left frowning at his phone. The main thought going through his mind was that Karma was probably enjoying this. He was a sadist like that. He was having fun while Nagisa wanted to bury himself as deep underground as possible.
Nagisa: you swiped right first!
Nagisa: mine was an accident
Nagisa: I was surprised to see you on here and my phone dropped
Karma: ah, so you wouldn't swipe right on me :( am I too ugly?
Nagisa felt his face grow hot. He probably shouldn't look at his reflection if he wanted to save himself from the image of his head being a tomato. He didn't think karma was ugly. quite the opposite, actually. Not that he could say that. That would be weird. So, he tried to find some middle ground answer, not calling karma ugly or the opposite of that.
Nagisa: I never said that, I just didn't intend to swipe right on someone i'm already friends with.
There, no way that could be taken wrong. He considered sending an additional message, clarifying just how dropping his phone led to the swiping right, but decided against it. It would sound just a little too defensive.
Karma: well, its nice this gives us a chance to talk again anyways. appears youve been too busy to answrr my texts.
An awkward laugh escaped Nagisa as he looked away from his phone, forgetting Karma couldn't actually see his reaction. There was no reason to avoid eye contact when there was no eye contact to begin with. Still, he shared the sentiment. He kind of had forgotten to keep contact with people lately.
He blamed the new workplace. After finishing his days as a trainee, the new school he worked at was surprisingly more demanding. He always knew being a full time teacher was a lot of work, especially now that there was no one to keep an eye on him and remind him of certain teaching specifics of the school he taught at. Of course, the work was rewarding enough for him to barely think about his loss of contacts. He had a habit of treating those too loosely anyways.
Nagisa: ive just been working
Karma: workaholic
Nagisa: you literally have more work hours than me
Karma: and somehow you still spend as much time working as me.
The conversation went on like that for a bit, them going back and forth at each other. Overall, it wasn't a bad time. Nagisa kind of forgot about the actual use of the app, and the fact that he could just DM Karma on line whenever he wanted to, until Karma managed to bring back the conversation to it.
Karma: you know, usually when people match, they try to meet up for a date
Of course Nagisa was aware that that's what the app was for, it was sort of the reason he’d gotten it as well. However, he didn't think anything would lead anywhere for him, let alone with karma. surely karma wasn't being serious. it would be weird to go on a date with your friend.
and still, Nagisa endulged him, being so stupid as to ask further.
Nagisa: where do people even go on tinder dates?
Karma: anywhere they want to, usually just for drinks, easy way to lead them home a little tipsy afterwards
Nagisa: okay that sounds creepy
Karma: if that's not your style I could always take you out for dinner.
Karma: There's this new sushi restaurant near my place, looks like something you'd love.
somehow, he actually considered it. On any other day, that would sound insane to nagisa. Since when would he consider dating karma? Wait, not dating, going on a date with Karma. There was a difference. Sushi did sound great, and so did Karma's company. He supposed he hadn't really been out like that in a while. date or not.
Karma: i can even pick you up, very romantic
The word hit Nagisa a little hard. Romantic. What would that entail? Would they sit opposite of each other, send cute glances, maybe even hold hands beside the table? He wanted his mind to hate the idea of that, doing those things with his friend, ruining the relationship they already had. But, he also wanted to give in, say yes, and see where things would lead. At the very least, he'd have a fun night with good food.
Nagisa: you have a day in mind?
Karma: how's Saturday?
Nagisa: Saturday's fine
Karma: it's a date!

Reach Her Eyes
Chapter Ten - Medically Induced Coma
Mentions of Kidnapping, hospital equipment, drugging, and slight stalking
With the fall of the Symbol of Peace, and Shigaraki's new hope for vengeance, the League was quickly pulled back into operation. Shigaraki wished to fill his Masters shoes in a way that would make him proud, even though walking in his Masters shoes would prove difficult, so he started with baby steps.
Shigaraki assigned Toga a mission, that you somehow managed to get roped into, of acquiring a blood sample from Izuku Midoriya. He didn't seem to care about the specifics, just that it was done. Which in turn left the two of you on your own of figuring out the hows and when.
You both decided that you would spend some time together and make a plan that would hopefully guarantee success on your part. Unfortunately, you seemed to have forgotten just how smitten Toga appeared to be by the Izuku boy, and only just came to realize just how difficult getting her to focus enough to help you make a plan was going to be. You let her ramble on and on about how much she adores him, and how she also likes some of the other students, and about seemingly a dozen other topics, all while you spent your time absorbed into your phone, getting into contact with a few people who could give you enough information and supplies that you would be able to fill the rest of your plan in as you go.
You smile, putting your phone away, and interrupt her rant about the frog girl not playing nice with a soft clap.  "I've got it. Get ready, we are going to leave as soon as you are done."
She looks at you, gold eyes wide and confused, "But… Where are we going? Oh! Did listening to me talking give you an idea?" She grabs her own cheeks, smooshing them slightly, and wrinkles her nose.
You shake your head. "No, I had a possible plan in mind once you begged me to help you, but I just got some of the details confirmed by some of my old acquaintances."
You both begin to walk into the main room, when she squeals causing you to tense up slightly, and look at her with furrowed brows. "Fuck, Toga, what the heck was that for?"
She smiles widely, and shrugs. "Nobody here has had the chance to see you in action. I'm just excited to see what you can do!"
You give her a smile and sigh. "Well if all goes well, you won't have to see me in too much action."
You let Toga get ready and walk to Fox. "Hey, before we get back, think you can set up a makeshift hospital room for me?"
She gives you a look of curiosity. "Sure love, any particular reason? And do you need any specific equipment?"
You smile. "Mm. Just part of the plan. But I could use the set up for an IV and preferably a ventilator, but if those are hard to come by, an intubation kit should work instead. Oh! And some things for blood donation."
She nods, her brows knitted together. "Uh.. yeah. Let me make some calls. I can probably figure it out by the end of the night. Be safe Y/n. Seriously."
You hum and walk to the door. "Always Fox. Always."
Once she gathered whatever she deemed necessary for your mission Toga met you by the front door. "Okay, I'm ready now. What are we even doing anyway?"
You pat her head and walk out the door. "You'll see, don't worry."
Though, unbeknownst to you, Shigaraki spoke shortly after he was sure the two of you were gone. "Dabi. I want you to follow them. Make sure this mission does not fail. And keep an eye on Y/n. We don't yet know fully what her plan is, and I don't really want to be another member short."
You took Toga with you through what felt like a maze of back alleyways, and underground tunnel systems before finding yourselves in a small dead-end closer to the other side of town. You smile at Toga. "This is our first stop. Mind your manners please." She looks at you before snapping her head to the approaching figure. A young woman, dressed in an obvious upscale business casual outfit. The woman giggles and goes for a hug, which you accept with some reluctance. "It's good to see you. Thank you for meeting with us. Did you bring the documents I asked for?"
She nods. "I did. I was a little worried at first, but then I remembered it was you asking and I figured that nothing that bad can come from this. Right?" She digs through her sling bag before pulling out an almost overfilled folder, holding it out to you.
You take the folder, and nod. "Right. No harm. Not from me. You know that."
Toga stays quite glancing between the two of you quickly and skeptically. The young woman clears her throat and speaks again. "Yes, well, uhm, I should be getting back… it was nice to see you again Y/n. Maybe we can catch up sometime soon. Have some coffee or something?"
You smile as she begins to walk away. "Of course. See you around."
Once she is gone Toga looks at you and glares. "What was that?"
You smile again, and look forward before speaking. " I suppose you saw her ID badge then huh? She's a teacher, a civilian, at Shiketsu High School. We used to go to middle school together. She uh, she knows what I do and some of what I have done, and sticks around. For the life of me I can't figure out why. I've set her up tons of times to turn me in or give information to the wrong hands but she never has betrayed me, I trust her."
Toga's face softens as she nods. She turns her gaze to the folder in your hands. "Oh. Then I guess I trust her too. What did she give you?"
You wiggle the folder and look at it yourself. "It's a roster of some of the students at Shiketsu High. She confirmed it but there is apparently a provisional license exam coming up tomorrow. The roster is of the students from Shiketsu that will be there, what their quirks are, and where they will be before the exam."
Toga looks at you shocked, and excited. "Why did she give you all that? Just because you asked? Am I going to meet more students? Why do we need that information?"
You smile at her and begin walking to your next stop. "Yes, just because I asked. And yeah, you are going to get to meet a lot of students. And we need this information because we are going to figure out which student you could transform into and pose as long enough to get some blood from Izuku. Which means we need to take this student and get a large amount of blood from them, and keep them hidden long enough for you to go pose as them without people seeing the real them and realizing something is off."
She gasps and jumps around you. "You mean I'll really get to be super close to Izuku? This sounds super fun! I'm excited now."
You shake your head, smiling at her energy. "Well, try to contain yourself somewhat. One misstep and this whole mission could go the wrong way, and fast. I trust your abilities, but I don't want to lose you either."
She grabs your arm and presses her face against it, her smile almost reaching uncomfortable sizes. "Awh, I don't want to lose you either! Not when I haven't even taken some of your blood, or seen you all bloody! Oh I bet you would look so cute all busted up and covered in red."
You look at her, and blink a few times before snorting. "Give it time. You'll see someday." After taking a few more turns you stop and lean against the wall with her. "Okay. Now… this next person. Well… he's a little more of a down low contact. And in all honesty I went out on a limb even asking if he could do this for me. So just kinda keep to the shadows till he is gone, if he sees you, I'm not sure he will react well… I uh, met him in a medical class I took at a community College near here, he's a med student that has access to something we need to pull this off without harm to the student we pick."
She nods enthusiastically, skipping off to hide further into the alley. You hear her settle in and begin to listen for your contact's arrival. You just begin to notice another heartbeat lingering nearby when footsteps are heard approaching your position. They must be nervous because their heart is racing… must be him.
You stand up straight and wave as he stands in front of you and holds out a small shopping bag. His voice trembles when he finally speaks. "H-here. This should be everything you asked for. And a few extra things just in case. D-do I want to ask what this is for?"
You take the bag, smiling, and turn and walk back into the alleyway, only to stop and look over your shoulder at him. "It's probably for the best if you don't know Natsuo."

thank you @chiptrillino for tagging me in a wip game!
not quite sure what the rules are but based off of your AMAZING POST OF ART WIPS (check it out here yall chip is so talented) ive decided to just share some parts of my writing wips that i rlly like because i cannot draw whatsoever lmao
enjoy some lil snippets hehe
from heart don't stand a chance:
"Zuko couldn’t get over her eyes. She was looking past the camera towards the man who took it. Zuko could see clear as day the love she held for Sokka in her gaze.
It was a perfect moment that Sokka had captured. No wonder held it with him at all times. If someone had looked at Zuko like that, he’d never want to see anything again.
As he took in the photograph, Sokka sat next to him in silence. His hand was clutching the ring around his neck again in his fist, pressing it close to his mouth as he peered over Zuko’s shoulder to look. Zuko turned to him to compliment the picture and saw a sad fondness lingering in his eyes."
this is a scene i wrote a while ago thats gonna appear in a much later chapter. but yeah. more yue angst for you guys im so sorry.
from i love you (and that's all i really know):
"Mister Sokka," a little voice wishpered in his ear as he felt tiny pokes on his cheek, "Wake up Mister Sokka."
"Good morning to you too Izumi," Sokka responded wearily as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He looked towards the little girl who was standing on her tippy toes to see over the edge of the bed and poke his face until he rose.
She smiled at him once she realized he was awake.
"Can we have pancakes?" She asked shyly, hiding her mouth just below the edge of the bed as she looked up at him with hopeful eyes.
That look was going to be dangerous for him later on, he could aready tell.
"Sure thing, Izumi, just let me sleep for five more minutes, mkay?" He asked as he shut his eyes again. He was exhausted from last nights events, and the sun had barely risen. How did Zuko do this?"
this is a scene from the next chapter of this fic. so much sokka and izumi bonding you guys are gonna explode hehehe.
from cherry (the mailee fic i wont shut up about that is now a whopping 19 pages):
"Mai never had to guess with Ty Lee. She always knew when Ty Lee was happy about something because she would use an obnoxious amount of exclamation points. She would send gifs of people or cartoons making outlandish expressions whenever she wanted to react to Mai’s text with a specific facial expression. Sometimes Ty Lee would even send voice memos whenever her thoughts became too long, or she got too excited about a story that her fingers couldn’t type as fast as she could speak."
hehe i love mailee.
from yours (the mailee sorority fic that i promise i did not forget about):
"Mai lifted her head off the pillow again and met Zuko’s eyes. She studied his impassive expression, trying to figure out if he was joking or not. He did seem like he missed Mai and Azula, so maybe he did really just want to catch up with them.
But Mai wasn’t going to give up a golden opportunity like this.
“Tell us everything about the boy toy as well and you’ve got yourself a deal,” Mai said.
Zuko rolled his eyes and sighed, “Ugh, fine. And his name is Sokka by the way.”
“Nuance. You also have to wake up Azula.”
“No chance in hell,” Zuko scoffed, “You’re the roommate and her fellow ‘pong princess,’ wake-up duty is all yours.”
“If she murders me, it’s your fault. She’s a bitch when she’s hungover.”
“Whatever you say, Mai,” Zuko grinned before returning back to his phone."
i have decided that zuko is a little shit for this fic and no one can stop me.
from Where'd All the Time Go? (the yuekka fic that i have severe writers block with that i also promis i have not forgotten about):
"“Sokka I really think you need to take a moment and-”
“I am fine Aang, I don’t have time for a feelings talk right now. Right now I need to find the fucking chief of this damn place.” His words came out harsher than he meant, but he didn’t have the time to dwell on that.
Before Sokka could run off again to continue his search, a hand grabbed his arm. One of Arnook’s advisors, Malina, had started dragging him towards the podium.
“Do you not realize how late you are for this Sokka? The ceremony was supposed to begin with your speech nearly an hour ago-” she hissed at him as she pulled him along through the crowd.
“Malina I’m sorry but I really need to speak with Arnook it is urgent-”
“This damn speech of yours is what’s urgent right now Sokka, you can speak with Arnook later but the guests are getting antsy so you need to give your speech right. Now.”
“But-”
“Now.”
Maline shoved Sokka towards the podium and suddenly all eyes were on him. Every guest in attendance had their focus solely on Sokka."
homeboy is stressed in this scene. things are slowly going to shit in this chapter. i promise i will update this before the end of the year. i swear. im so sorry.
from a currently untitled jetko/sukka boiling rock fic:
"“Oh good, you survived after all,” She said in a mocking tone.
Jet didn’t answer. He knew anything he said would be used against him. He didn’t know where he was. He didn’t know what was happening. But he would be damned if he showed that weakness in front of the fire nation.
“I was told you were more talkative than this,” the girl mused. There was something familiar about her, “my informants were very detailed when discussing your little teashop romance.”
I knew it. Jet snarled in his mind, That bastard betrayed me."
i want this fic to be a little darker but idk how good i am at writing darker fics because i love fluff and humor too much. this could be good angst practice for me.
from a toph and sokka fic that i wrote a while back to help me cope w some shit that i dont know if ill ever post:
"“Sokka? Are you still there?” Toph asked, the slightest hint of concern began to slip into their voice
“Tell me a story,” he was trembling. Despite all of his efforts to sound calm, he knew his voice came out trembling and scratchy and pathetic-
“Is everything okay? You don’t sound too hot,” Toph said through the phone.
Breathe, Sokka, breathe. You don’t want them to be worried, you just need to calm down.
“Please, Toph, I just,” he said through shaky breaths that weren’t nearly deep enough for him to be getting enough oxygen, “I just need a distraction. I just need to hear your voice okay?”"
nonbinary toph anyone?
from a 10 things i hate about you kataang and zukka au:
"“What? Something on my face?” the guy asked deadpanned. He rubbed at his scar as if he were wiping off a smudge of mustard, and Aang’s face went pale.
“Stop scaring the sophomores Zuko, this one’s new. He won’t get your… humor… just yet,” Ms. Wu said as she waved Aang off again.
“I’m hurt that you’d imply I’m not funny, Wu. I’m hilarious,” the senior, Zuko, said as he walked past Aang.
Aang let out a sigh of relief knowing that this Zuko guy didn’t seem all that offended by his awkwardness, and darted out of the room."
zuko is a little shit part 2. the amount of sarcasm i have dripping off of heath ledger zuko is glorious. let zuko be a little shit. i havent added to this in months but when i finish some of my other wips i cant wait to get back to this.
i have more wips and drafts saved but none of them have anything juicy or funny or interesting yet because all of them are like less than three pages so far
but yeah, heres a good chunk of sneaky peakys from my wips!
I hope you liked them!
anyone who wants to do this can totally go for it. imma tag @ambykinns @lumities and @flowers-inthepieshop (only if you all want too!!) because this was fun :)

how to save a life ︱spencer reid
word count: 8.3k
spencer reid x slight oc
spencer and veronica argue over him keeping their relationship from the team, but when spencer sustains a life-threatening gun shot wound it puts everything into perspective
angst + hurt/comfort with an eventual happy ending
this is not an x reader because i hate writing y/n in place of a character name and it often forces you into writing in second person which i also hate - however I have avoided giving specific descriptions of hair/eye/skin colour, height and body shape so feel free to imagine it like an x reader
this is also heavily inspired by greys anatomy and ive taken characters from the show to be side characters, however you do not need to have watched a single episode of greys to follow the story
warnings: mention of rape, mentions of past drug use, spencer being shot, descriptions of blood, spencer being a bit of a dick in part 1??
Veronica groaned and rolled onto her stomach, shielding her eyes from the dull light illuminating the room. Her body was stiff as she twisted to find a more comfortable position, but the glare from the lamp was still too bright, so she huffed and forced herself to sit upright.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you,” Spencer whispered.
Veronica was still groggy and had to squint her eyes to focus on him. He was stood on the other side of her bedroom, half dressed in a pair of tight grey trousers and an unbuttoned pale blue shirt. Her eyes raked over his exposed skin.
She grumbled and flopped back down on the bed, “you’re lucky you’re pretty, waking me up at 5am on a Saturday.”
He frowned, “it’s an emergency – we just got called in on a case.”
“Is this your way of telling me you can’t come tonight?” she snorted, looking up at him lazily as her head rested on her pillow.
“The fundraising gala – right,” he said stiffly, slowly doing up his buttons, “it’s a local one, so we won’t be flying out, but I can’t justify sneaking off to a party while we’re working a case.”
“Its not a party,” Veronica said through gritted teeth, “parties are fun. This is a stupid campaign that Jackson organized to raise funds for the hospital. Where I’m expected to go and charm rich, old, white men into giving us money, and whichever department raises the most money gets a bonus-”
“And you think I’d have been a valuable addition to your efforts because?” Spencer asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Because, you have an eidetic memory and an IQ of 187 – that impresses everyone, and maybe it could’ve impressed some hedge fund manager enough to give me, and my department, the big bucks.”
“You flatter me.”
“Yeah, remember this feeling – cos’ you won’t be getting any more nice words from me for a while,” Veronica grumbled into her pillow; she pulled the duvet tighter around her body and screwed her eyes shut, they still hadn’t adjusted to the glow from the lamp.
Spencer had finished getting dressed, and he sighed deeply as he crept over to the bed. He crawled on top of the duvet and wrapped his arms around Veronica’s body.
“You know I would rather be with you, but if I don’t go to work, people die,” he whispered in her ear.
Veronica twisted her torso to face him, “Spencer I get it – if I don’t go to work people die too, I just hate your job when it means we can’t do things together. That gala just going to be full of dull, sleazy men – you would’ve kept me sane.”
He wrapped his arms around her, tighter, “I know, I hate it too. I just can’t leave in the middle of a serial case like this, plus even if I tried to the team would have too many questions because-”
Veronica’s body stiffened, and she unconsciously shifted away from him, “because you still haven’t told them about us, even though we’ve been together for years, and you know all my friends, and we go to work events together for my job. But we can’t for yours because you still haven’t told your team, who you consider family. I’m well aware of that fact, Spencer.”
“Veronica, you know it’s nothing to do with you. There are just some things I like to keep private from them-”
“I’m not a thing! I’m a person, and you’re not keeping it private, you’re keeping it secret. Private would be if they knew I existed but didn’t know all the details of our relationship, but that’s not what’s happening here,” she snapped.
“V, don’t be like that-”
“You should just go; you’ll be late for work. Wouldn’t want to let down your team like that.”
Spencer sighed and let go of her, he shuffled around the room gathering up his bag and coat before heading to the door.
“Goodbye, good luck at the fundraiser. Hopefully I’ll be home tonight, otherwise I’ll call you, okay?”
“Yeah, okay,” she grumbled.
“I love you,” he said uncertainly.
Veronica couldn’t fight the smile that crept onto her face at his words, “I love you too,” she whispered back.
She stretched her arms out to Spencer’s side of the bed as she heard the front door click shut. The pillow and mattress were already cool from the absence of his body, Veronica let her heavy eyes fall shut and drifted off to sleep again.
She didn’t wake up again until hours later, when the sunlight crept through the gaps in the curtains and shone onto her face. Veronica unwilling pried her eyes open for the second time that day and fumbled for her phone on the bedside table to see if Spencer had texted her.
He hadn’t. Veronica’s heart sunk and her chest, he always texted her when he arrived at work. The only thing the glaring, bright screen of her phone informed her was that it was 11.57am, she had significantly overslept.
She quickly attributed it to the 17-hour spinal-cord tumour resection she had worked on yesterday and pulling the charger out of her phone she rolled over. Unlocking her phone, she sent a quick text to Spencer, reminding him that he needed to keep her updated when he was on a case or she’d assume he was dead.
But when she clicked ‘delivered’, there was a buzz from Spencer’s bedside table and Veronica strained her neck only to see that his phone was still there. She frowned, Spencer wasn’t a fan of his phone, but he never went to work without it, could he really have been so flustered from their spat that he’d forgotten it?
Whatever the reason, Veronica groaned, she wouldn’t relax all day without his periodic updates telling her that he was still alive, and she doubted he would trek all the way back to her apartment to get it.
She crawled out of bed and searched around for the first clothes she could find; a pair of dark running shorts, and her red ‘Harvard Med’ sweatshirt.  Flinging them on, she quickly sprayed herself with deodorant and grabbed her bag, keys, and Spencer’s phone before dashing out the door.
Veronica cursed Spencer as she thudded down the stairs of her apartment building, because of course, the lift was still broken. Dr. Spencer Reid was supposed to have an eidetic memory, and he forgets his phone? Idiot.
A wave of heat hit her as she stepped outside, rummaging around her bag for a pair of sunglasses to shield her eyes as she made her way over to her car. Veronica contemplated how to get the phone to Spencer as she drove, she obviously couldn’t call him to let him know she had it, and she didn’t have the extension for his desk phone.
She could hand it into someone at reception and ask them to take it up or ask them to call him down. But then she would have to talk to him again and Veronica wasn’t sure if she wanted to do that.
She knew it wasn’t his fault, she knew that he couldn’t control when serial killers decided to act out, she knew that he was out there saving lives.
But it was still frustrating they couldn’t go places like normal couples, if there wasn’t a serial killer terrorising some small town then she was being pulled in on an emergency surgery. If she were honest with herself, she didn’t know how much longer their relationship could go on like this.
At least they were in the same state this time, and they would hopefully get to sleep in the same bed whilst he worked on this case, she thought optimistically to herself as she parked her car on a side street near the FBI building.
Veronica was still debating whether to leave Spencer’s phone with the receptionist or have them call him down as she strolled across the street. But that decision was quickly made for her when she saw Spencer leaving the building, accompanied by a tall, bald man with dark skin and a short blonde woman, wearing an eccentric, neon dress.
They were laughing amongst themselves; Spencer ran a hand through his messy hair as he chuckled at something Veronica was too far away to hear. He looked so happy. She was about to turn around and sneak back to her car when Spencer clocked her, they made eye-contact and he stopped in his tracks.
His friends stopped to and after noticing that Spencer was staring at something, turned to look at her too. The man nudged him, but Spencer stood frozen his tracks. Veronica huffed, if he weren’t going to come to her, she would have to go to him.
“Spencer,” she said, as she approached them briskly.
“Veronica! We’re just going to grab lunch for the team, I…I was going to text you, but I-”
“Left your phone at my apartment,” she finished for him, holding out his phone, which he took gingerly, “hi! I’m Veronica,” she said brightly, turning to face the man and woman who were staring at her, dumbfounded.
“H-hi, I’m Penelope Garcia,” the woman finally spoke.
“Derek Morgan,” the man added, with a small wave.
They both lingered hesitantly a few steps away from Veronica and Spencer, evidently sensing the tension between them. Spencer wouldn’t make eye contact with her, he stared down at his feet, but Veronica stood her ground firmly.
“I’m literally standing right in front of them Spencer, are you still going to try and keep me a secret?” she seethed.
“I-I didn’t want it to happen like this,” he stammered.
“Right. You didn’t want it to happen, at all,” she said, turning on her heel to leave but Spencer lurched forward and grabbed her wrist, pulling her close into him.
“V, please don’t be like that – I wasn’t expecting you to show up at my job like this, I just needed a minute to process-”
“Process what? Your girlfriend doing you a favour? You’ve had a minute, and you clearly don’t want your friends to know me so just forget it Spencer,” she snapped, pulling her arm free from his grip.
“Veronica, please. I will introduce you properly later, just not right now,” he whispered, throwing an anxious glance back at Derek and Garcia.
Veronica rolled her eyes, they weren’t even in earshot anymore and he was still whispering so they wouldn’t overhear.
“Why not right now? You aren’t tracking down an unsub right at this moment, you’re going to get lunch – is a sandwich really more important to you than me?”
“That isn’t what I said!”
“You didn’t have to say anything, Spence,” she smiled sadly, “I don’t understand why you don’t want the people closest to you to know that you’ve had a girlfriend for the past three years. I mean we basically live together, it’s a serious relationship, they should at least know I exist.”
“It’s more complicated than that-”
“No, it isn’t!” she cried, her voice louder and shriller than she intended, causing Derek and Garcia to step forward but Spencer waved them off, “are you embarrassed of me or something?” she asked, her eyes flickering between Spencer’s twisted expression and his friends.
“Of course not, don’t be stupid,” he snorted.
“I’m not being stupid,” she snapped, “but I can’t think of any other reason why you wouldn’t want them to know me. Not that you should have any reason to be embarrassed cos’ I’m a hot neurosurgeon, but maybe that’s not good enough for the sacred BAU,” she spat.
Garcia and Derek whispered amongst themselves as they gave the couple concerned looks.
“Veronica, please-”
“No, don’t,” she said firmly despite the tears burning in her eyes, “you’ve made it very clear where you stand. I have to go; I’m meeting April for lunch and then to get our hair done for this stupid gala. Text me to let me know you’re alive, otherwise don’t contact me,” Veronica turned to leave but Spencer gripped her arm again.
“Are you breaking up with me?” he asked, his voice cracking slightly.
Veronica shook her head, “no, Spencer you could literally stab me through the heart, and I wouldn’t leave you. That’s the problem, I think I love you more than you love me – I just need some space.”
“Come on, I’ll introduce you to Morgan and Garcia, y-you can join us all for lunch,” he said desperately, trying to tug her towards them but Veronica pulled her arm away again.
“Too late Spence,” she sighed, “I meant what I said, still let me know you’re okay every few hours or I’ll worry. But please just leave me alone till you decide if you really want to be in this relationship.”
“Of course, I do Veronica! I lov-”
“Bye Spencer,” she said, kissing him softly on the cheek, “be safe.”
Veronica turned and dashed away from him, desperate not to let him see the tears threatening to spill over.
“Love you…” Spencer finished as he watched her disappear around a corner.
He was frozen for several moments as he stared longingly after her, but she would be in her car and long gone now. He tightened his grip on the phone she had handed him just moments before, the screen lit up and showed a text she must’ve sent before realizing he didn’t have his phone. He shoved the phone back in his pocket and turned on his heel to head back inside, but Derek was quick to grab his arm and pull him back.
“Hey, hey, hey, and just where do you think you’re going?” he asked, cocking an eyebrow.
“Inside,” Spencer snapped, as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.
Derek gave him a pointed look, “I don’t think so kid, I’m gonna tell you what’s gonna happen – we’re gonna get in the car and go pick up lunch for everyone, it’ll take about 20 minutes, tops. That’s how long you have to explain whoever that was and why you’ve been acting so weird this morning, sound good?”
Spencer wrestled his arm out of Derek’ grip, “I don’t owe you an explanation,” he said sharply.
“Well see yeah you do pretty boy, cos’ that’s the second time you’ve snapped at me in under a minute so somethings obviously going on and I’m willing to bet it’s got something to do with Miss Harvard Med, who’s apartment you were in this morning,” he said with a knowing look, “now come on, cars this way,” he pointed to the left on the street and began to saunter off.
Spencer gave Garcia a desperate look, “Penelope, have my back here, I-”
She raised a hand up to silence him, “it doesn’t take a profiler to figure out that you’ve been acting weird all morning,” she shifted closer to him and took his large hand in hers, “I know you like to keep things to yourself Spencer, but you and I also both know that you keeping secrets doesn’t always end well, we aren’t asking you to give us every detail we just want to know what’s going on.”
Spencer huffed but didn’t disagree with her, he even let her tug his arm and lead him down the street after Derek, who was already waiting for them at the car.
“About time,” he said, lifting himself from his position leaning against the dark SVU to unlock it.
He climbed in the front seat and Garcia moved round to get in the passenger’s side, leaving Spencer to stand for a few seconds outside the car. He debated running back to the office for a few seconds, but Derek would definitely run after him, and he was a lot faster. Deciding he didn’t want to be tackled to the ground today, he grumbled and crawled into the back seat, slamming the door behind him.
“You gonna tell us why you’ve got such an attitude today now, kid?” Derek said as he turned the keys in the ignition and pulled away from the kerb.
“And who that girl was?” Garcia added.
“That was Veronica,” he shrugged, twirling the end of his tie in his hands.
“Yeah, she told us that much,” Derek sighed, “we mean who is she?”
“She’s a neurosurgeon at Stafford Grace Mercy West hospital,” he answered through gritted teeth.
“A neurosurgeon!” Garcia gasped, clapping her hands together, “our Doctor Reid found himself a doctor of his own,” she giggled.
“What? No! I just said she was a doctor; I didn’t say there was anything-”
Derek had his eyes focused on the road, but Spencer could picture the look on his face as he spoke, “I didn’t think neurosurgeons usually ran a drop-in clinic from their apartments, but y’know I’m not the one with an IQ of 187, so maybe I’m wrong.”
He gave Garcia a look and her face dropped.
Spencer swore under his breath and folded his arms tightly across his chest. He shifted uncomfortably in the back seat as Derek pulled up to the drive-thru and gave a shrug and a mumble when he asked him what he wanted to eat.
“Thank you very much ma’am,” Derek flirted with the woman in the window as she handed the paper bag of food through to him, he gave it to Garcia as he drove away, allowing her to pick through everyone’s fries.
“Y’know kid, we’ll be back at the office in 10 minutes or so and you can either tell me what’s going on now or back there, in front of everyone else.”
“It’s none of your business!” Spencer spluttered.
“You’ve not been able to focus at work all morning, every time someone has asked a question you’ve been tugging on your tie instead of giving us some long-winded statistic, then some girl we’ve never seen before shows up and you both start fighting-”
“We weren’t fighting,” Spencer grumbled, running a hand through his hair, “just a difference of opinion, that’s all.”
“A difference of opinion made her storm off like that, huh?” Derek mused.
Spencer balled his fists, why couldn’t Derek just leave it alone?
“We just want to make sure there’s nothing bad going on, Spencer,” Garcia said kindly, a handful of Emily’s fries in her mouth.
“Why do you think anything bad would be going on?”
Derek and Garcia exchanged looks.
“Hey! Why are you looking each other like that?”
Garcia twisted in her seat to face him, “we just noticed that recently you’ve not been coming out with us, you’re always rushing home after work, some days you’re really happy – and I love those days! – but other times you’re…irritable-”
“Like today,” Derek interjected.
“Right, and now this girl who just happens to be a doctor with a prescription pad shows up, and if she’s not your girlfriend then-”
“You think she’s my drug dealer?” Spencer snorted.
“Is she?” Garcia asked, alarmed.
“No!” he snapped, “fine! She’s my girlfriend, is that what you wanted to hear? Congratulations guys, you’ve finally gotten me to admit the one thing I didn’t want to tell you, whilst simultaneously accusing me of taking drugs again, and Veronica of abusing her medical license to sell drugs!”
“Hey! Kid I get if you’re upset but don’t raise your voice at Garcia like that, we suspected you were using again before Veronica ever showed up, her being a doctor just fit into the puzzle,” Derek said firmly, “I don’t understand why you didn’t just tell us she was your girlfriend and we could’ve moved on, you being so secretive about her is what made us think that there was something bad going on.”
“Well, there isn’t, except I have a pissed off girlfriend and a serial killer slashing women’s throats open, I don’t have time to pander to your feelings as well,” Spencer grumbled as Derek pulled up near the office again, he flung the door open and high-tailed out of the car, leaving Derek and Garcia in their seats gaping at each other.
He had dashed back inside the building; he couldn’t tell how close Derek and Garcia were behind him, but he was grateful they were far away enough to not catch the lift with him.
“Hey Reid,” Emily greeted him as he sulked back into the office, “where are Garcia and Morgan?”
Spencer shrugged, “they’re coming up now, they’ve got everyone’s food,” he mumbled, shuffling away to his desk.
“Okay…” Emily said, and shot JJ a concerned look.
Spencer sat down and stared blankly at the map in front of him. He was supposed to be working on the geographical profile, but his eyes blurred as he stared at the contour lines and he couldn’t make them refocus.
Derek and Garcia burst through the door minutes later.
“Lunchtime,” he called, as Garcia held the bag up above her head.
“Finally, I’m starving,” Emily groaned, making her way over to Derek to collect her lunch, “what’s going on with the good doctor?” she whispered under her breath, motioning with her head over to Spencer, slumped in his chair.
Derek hesitated, “we’re not entirely sure yet, I’ll let you know when I know,” he whispered back.
Emily nodded apprehensively and took her food from Garcia.
“I promise I didn’t eat all your fries,” she chirped, and Emily rolled her eyes.
The other team members came to collect their orders from Morgan and Garcia, all of them shooting concerned looks at Spencer. He dug his nails into his palms, the sharp twinge distracted him from everyone’s stares.
Spencer didn’t show any intention of coming to get his lunch, so Derek took the bag from Garcia and strolled over to Spencer’s desk. He dropped the bag down on top of the map.
“You wouldn’t answer me when I asked what you wanted, so I picked for you.”
Spencer didn’t look up, “hmm not hungry,” he said, twirling a pen in his hand.
“C’mon kid, I’m sorry Garcia and I implied that you were using again, but we’ve noticed you acting weird for a while and we thought that was the most plausible-”
“So, you thought it was more likely I was shooting myself up with dilaudid than it was that I had a girlfriend? Cos’ who would want to date me right?” he snorted.
“Spencer, you know that’s not what I meant, but you never gave any indication you were seeing someone, I thought if you were then you’d have mentioned it to at least one of us.”
Spencer curled his lip.
“So…why didn’t you mention anything?”
“Because…because we spend so much time together, and you all know so much about me I just wanted to have something that was my own,” he said hastily.
“Okay, I can understand that, so I won’t ask too many questions – I just want to know: does she treat you good? Does she make you happy?”
“Yes,” Spencer murmured.
“That all I’m gonna get, pretty boy?”
Spencer nodded stiffly, “for now.”
“Am I gonna get to meet her?” Derek asked softly.
“You did meet her.”
Derek rolled his eyes, “I mean properly, I would like to introduce myself as the guy who saves your ass on the daily,” he said, nudging Spencer’s shoulder gently.
He tried to fight the smile creeping onto his face, but failed, “you’re getting nowhere near her if you’re gonna lie like that.”
Derek chuckled and held up his hands, “okay, okay I get it – pretty boy’s gotta protect his reputation in front of his girl.”
Spencer gave him a tight-lipped smile and nodded, he continued to twirl the pen in his hand, “something like that.”
“Guys, I think we might have something,” Hotch said, stepping out of the conference room with Garcia and Rossi close behind him.
JJ and Emily nodded, standing up from their desks to join him. Derek moved to follow but Spencer grabbed his arm quickly.
“You won’t say anything will you?” he asked nervously, “not until I’ve had a chance to talk to Veronica, at least. She’s got this fundraising gala for work tonight, and I don’t know when we’ll get home. We’re in the same state and we probably won’t get a chance to talk till this case is over,” he said miserably.
Derek nodded, “your secrets safe with me, pretty boy,” he said, clapping Spencer on the bag before sauntered away and up the stairs.
Spencer smiled, grabbed his lunch from his desk and followed.

Veronica drummed her nails against the table as they waited for their waitress to return with their drinks.
“You know I was going to say that it’s a bit early for the wine you just ordered but now I think you should’ve gotten a large,” April commented, watching how Veronica fidgeted in her seat.
“Yeah, well I figured I should start preparing early for this stupid gala,” she mumbled.
“Hey! Jackson has worked really hard organizing this, I think it’ll be fun!”
Veronica rolled her eyes, “you think going to the DMV is fun, so you don’t get much of an opinion here, Kepner.”
“It is fun!” April began but Veronica gave her a pointed look, “right...not about me. Veronica, what’s going on? You’ve been acting weird since you got to my apartment, and I know you’re not looking forward to the gala, but I don’t think that’s what’s on your mind.”
Veronica shrugged, “it’s Spencer, he-”
She was interrupted as their waitress returned, “okay! Diet coke for you, and a pinot griot for you,” she said, placing their respective drinks down in front of them, “are you ladies ready to order?” she chirped, Veronica wanted to roll her eyes at the perkiness radiating off of her, but reminded herself that she was just doing her job.
“I’ll have the chicken Caesar salad please!” April responded, matching the waitresses bright and bubbly demeanour.
Veronica tapped her foot against the floor, “I’ll have the double bacon cheeseburger with Cajun fries please,” she said, giving her best attempt at a smile.
“Excellent!” she said, taking their menus, “I’ll get that out to you soon as its ready.”
“Thank you!” April said, her voice sweet and sing-song-like, until the waitress had disappeared out of sight and she turned to glare at Veronica, “double bacon cheeseburger! You have a tight dress to wear tonight, do you want to be bloated?”
“April, I really don’t care,” Veronica said flatly, taking a large swig of wine from her glass.
April gaped at her lie a fish but quickly composed herself, “what did Spencer do that’s so bad he’s got you comfort eating and drinking?”
Veronica paused to take another gulp of wine before she answered, “it’s not what he did it’s what he didn’t do. First of all, he was supposed to come to the gala with me tonight and keep me from punching one of those rich, old, pervs in the throat but then he got called into work on a case – which sucks, and I’m upset he can’t come but like I can live with that, we get pulled into emergency surgeries all the time, so I get it,” she ranted, taking another sip of wine.
“But?” April prompted.
“But everything comes back to the same issues with us, he refuses to even tell his team about me. And these guys, April, they’re like his family! But they have no clue I even exist; he always says it’s because he’s a private person and he shares so much with them that he just wants to having something to himself…but more and more it just feels like he’s embarrassed by me.”
“Oh, Veronica,” April gushed, her voice dripping with sympathy, “I’m sure that’s not true, but it’s so easy to get in your own head about things like this, when Jackson and I were sneaking around I felt the same way.”
“Yeah, and then you got married,” she snorted.
“And then we got divorced.”
“Is this your way of telling me I should break up with Spencer?” Veronica asked, raising an eyebrow.
“No!” April said quickly, “I’m just saying that Jackson and I didn’t work out because we had too many fundamental differences, but you and Spencer aren’t like that, your problems are coming from external factors and they’re far easier to fix than internal ones. If you gave him an ultimatum, you introduce me to your team or it’s over, then I really doubt that he’s going to let you walk away.”
Veronica shook her head, “he’d know that’s an empty threat, I already told him I would never leave him.”
“When did you tell him that?” April demanded.
“About 20 minutes before I showed up at your place, he left his phone at my apartment, so I went to drop it off at his work but when I got there, he was coming out with two of his friends – I was right in front of them and he still didn’t want to introduce me. And I told him that I couldn’t break up with him, but I thought I love him more than he loves me.”
“And what did he say?”
“Well, then he said I should come to lunch with them, but it was so obvious that he didn’t really want that, he was just trying to cover his own ass,” she shrugged, “so I told him it was too late and then I left.”
“Why didn’t you go with them? Then you would have met them, and this would all be resolved,” April gaped at her.
“Because he didn’t want me there! Besides they don’t even get a proper lunch break, they were just going to pick up food for everyone else. I don’t want to meet my boyfriend’s closest friends in the 20-minute drive to Burger King and back,” she huffed, sitting back lazily, and crossing her arms over her chest.
“Have you tried explaining to him how he’s making you feel by doing this?”
“Only every time we fight, I say I’m sick of him not taking me to parties with his work friends cos’ he doesn’t want them to know about me, but the rest of the team has their partners there, so he just stopped going out with them all together. He would rather not see his friends outside of work than take me with him, you can’t try and tell me that’s not weird.”
April shook her head hesitantly, “no, I agree that its strange, but I’ve also met Spencer and I’ve seen first-hand how much he adores you, whatever is going on, I don’t think it’s because he’s ashamed of you.”
Veronica didn’t answer her. She didn’t have the energy to argue back, if there was another reason as to why Spencer was hiding her, she couldn’t figure it out.
Thankfully, the waitress returned with their food and interrupted April, who Veronica could tell was about to launch into some motivational speech. She took a huge bite from her burger, savouring the salty bacon and tangy tomato relish that made her feel instantaneously better.
April gave her a disapproving look as she delicately tucked into her salad, “I was going to say you need to eat quickly or we’ll miss our appointment, but I see you’re doing that all on your own.”
“We’ve still got another hour, chill out, Kepner.”
April rolled her eyes, “you’ve forgotten the plan, already haven’t you?”
Veronica froze, with a handful of spicy, Cajun fries in her mouth, “plan?” she questioned, her voice muffled.
“I told you yesterday, Veronica!” she whined, “we were going to get our hair done at the salon but now she’s going to come to Cristina’s apartment since its way closer to where the gala will be – so we need to drive back to your apartment to pick up your dress and makeup and then we’ll head to Cristina’s to get ready there.”
“Don’t we need to pick up your stuff too then?”
“No, because I was organized and put mine in the back of the car,” she said with a glare, “you did pick up your dress, right?”
“Yes, have some faith in me,” Veronica grumbled.
“You didn’t remember the plan! You could’ve just as easily forgotten to get a dress.”
“I’m pretty sure you never told me about the plan,” Veronica teased.
“I did!”
“When?”
“Yesterday, after you came out of surgery.”
“You told me after my 17-hour spinal cord tumour resection, and actually expected me to remember a word that you’d said?”
“Shut up and eat your burger,” April huffed, and Veronica chuckled as she took another large bite.

Spencer shifted uncomfortably in the passenger’s seat of the SVU, he was irritated. They had been chasing a lead since lunch and it hadn’t panned out, he and Derek were on their way back to the office now.
He turned down the radio; the music was so loud he couldn’t hear himself think. It was getting dark outside now, and the streetlights reflected off of the window he stared out of, the glare hurt his eyes. Spencer re-adjusted his bulletproof vest; it was tight and digging into his chest. He flicked on the AC; the car was too hot.
“Hey kid, you wanna sit still for 5 minutes?” Derek mused.
“I’m just frustrated, I really thought we got him,” he grunted.
“I know me too, but everyone’s doing everything they can to catch him-”
“He’s escalating! He’s raped, killed and dumped two women since lunch, in broad daylight – everyone might be doing everything he can but that isn’t enough.”
“I know this isn’t an easy case, but we’ve dealt with things like this before and you never act out like this, so what’s going on? Is this about your fight with Veronica?”
“No! I mean…” Spencer dragged his hand through his hair, “it’s not about the fight but it is about her, all the women he’s killed so far sort of look like her – same hair and eye colour, same height and body type….”
“Spencer, we know he’s taking these women as surrogates for a Linda Johnson, it doesn’t have anything to do with her-”
“But he could take her, she’s with her friends right now, getting ready for this work thing. The second victim was at a party with friends when he took her, and she looked exactly like Veronica – they could’ve been sisters.”
Derek pulled the car over to the side of the road.
“W-what are you doing?” Spencer stuttered, “Hotch said he wants everyone back ASAP.”
“Hotch can wait,” Derek said sharply, “now listen to me kid, Veronica is gonna be just fine, she’s gonna be at some fancy, little party full of other doctors. We profiled that the unsub wouldn’t be able to blend into an environment like that, that’s why all his other victims were taken in nightclubs or back alleys. She will be fine, okay?”
Spencer didn’t answer.
“Kid, I need you to answer me so I know you’re still in there,” Derek said, nudging him, “I can see that brain of yours going into overdrive.”
“We profiled that the unsub wouldn’t be able to fit in with educated or upper-class groups because of poor social skills and lack of education…” Spencer began slowly.
“Right,” Derek agreed with him.
“And that’s why we went to Tommy Jones’ house, because he fits the profile, but his alibi checks out….”
“What are you getting at here, Reid?”
“It doesn’t make sense, all the women were taken from dive bars or dangerous areas, but they were all also upper class, well educated women – they wouldn’t just go off with someone who they thought was a threat….”
Derek nodded slowly, “…and we know he used some kind of a ruse to get them in his van because all of the victims had minimal defensive wounds.”
“Right, so our unsub would have to be someone these women would trust, and the psychology of implicit bias show that we are consciously and unconsciously more trusting of members of our perceived in-group,” Spencer added, “so what if our unsub is someone connected to Linda Johnson but from the same rich, ivy-league educated background as her.”
“Okay, but we already vetted all of Linda’s male family members, friends and boyfriends of friends – they’re all clear. And she’s still with her high-school boyfriend who’s been in California all week….”
“Call Hotch, Linda should still be at the office, maybe he can find a male from the same financial and educational background as Lisa who has since lost social status and lost touch with her, our unsub could be someone who has lost access to that kind of lifestyle and blames Lisa for it.”
“Okay kid, whatever you say,” Derek said, he grabbed his phone and dialled Hotch’s number, “hey Hotch, Reid thinks the unsub is someone who came from the same background as Lisa but has lost some kind of status and blames her for it, can you ask if anyone fits that description?”
Spencer looked on in anticipation, his heart hammering in his chest. Derek switched his phone to speaker-mode as Hotch came back.
“Morgan, I think we got something. Linda says her high school had a tutoring program, a boy called Phillip Davis used to help her with biology and chemistry, she always suspected he had a bit of a crush on her, but she never returned the feelings. He left the school when his father went bankrupt and he lost all their money, they haven’t spoken in years that’s why she never mentioned him.”
“Linda posted on Facebook that she’d been accepted for a master’s degree in biochemical sciences the day before the killings started, that could be the trigger if Davis feels he helped her enough with her studies to get into a master’s program, but she never showed any appreciation,” Spencer said nodding.
“And if he went to the same private school as Linda, he would have the social skills to fit in with other upper-class women,” Derek said.
“Good work Reid,” Hotch said, “you two are closet to his home address, Garcia’s already sent it to your phones, I’ll meet you there – JJ and Prentiss will check out his work address.”
“You got it Hotch,” Derek said before he hung up the phone and drove off again, “we’re gonna get him kid, don’t you worry.”
Spencer nodded, “I know, just I’ll relax better when he’s in handcuffs.”
“He will be soon.”
Spencer didn’t say anything as Derek raced along side-streets. He had flicked the sirens on as they overtook other cars, and they blared in Spencer’s ears. He switched them off when they pulled up outside Philip Davis’ house, he stared up at the dimly lit house for a second before he followed Derek in exiting the car.
His ears were ringing.
Derek was on the phone again, “yeah Hotch, we just got here.”
Spencer’s heart hammered against his ribcage. He yanked down his bulletproof vest again; it was really uncomfortable.
“Hotch says they’re five minutes out, he wants us to wait until they get here to go in,” Derek said and leant against the exterior of the car.
Spencer nodded but his heart seized in his chest; he didn’t think he could wait five whole minutes outside. He tapped his foot against the uneven concrete and peered up at the house.
A light flicked on in one of the upstairs windows.
“Morgan!” he hissed, “do you see that? He’s definitely in there.”
“I know kid, but Hotch says Lina told him that this guy is really aggressive, and Garcia confirmed he owns a whole arsenal of firearms. He just wants us to have backup before we go in, he’s bringing S.W.A.T as well.”
Spencer huffed, “why does it feel like we’re always just standing around waiting for S.W.A.T to show up?”
“Tell me about it, pretty boy,” Derek grinned, “they wouldn’t know how to be on time if-”
He was interrupted by a piercing scream that came from inside the house, Derek and Spencer instinctively grabbed their guns.
“That was definitely a woman,” Derek whispered, “but he didn’t bring any of the other victims back to his house, why her?”
“We’ve amped up the police presence all over the city and set up roadblocks, maybe he was starting to feel cornered, and didn’t want to be caught in the act – we can’t wait for backup any longer, we have to go in.”
“Yeah, I know,” Derek said, he grabbed his phone from his pocket and sent a quick text to Hotch, “okay kid, lets go,” he nodded at Spencer and began to advance towards the house, his gun held out defensively in front of him.
Spencer took a deep breath and followed him. He really wanted to text Veronica and let her know that he was okay for now, but that he and Derek were about to burst into an unsub’s house. Who apparently happened to a violent, gun fanatic.
Derek had kicked the door down, “Kevin Davis, FBI! Come down with your hands up.”
There was no response.
Derek silently motioned to the stairs and Spencer nodded, he followed as they crept across the hall. Derek looked back at him for approval before he began to slowly climb the stairs, Spencer readjusted his vest again before he followed.
The stairs creaked slightly under their feet; the house was a mess and they carefully stepped over clutter as they made their ascent. Derek had made it safely to the top landing when the first gunshots were fired.
He shouted something but Spencer couldn’t hear him, his voice overshadowed by the pulsing of blood in his ears. He was still stood on the top step; he didn’t have the clear view that Derek had of Kevin Davis emerging from a room with an assault rifle in hand.
Spencer’s ears were stilling ringing from the first round of warning shots.
“Kevin Davis, FBI – put the gun down,” Derek ordered, his own gun firmly fixed at the unsub, who only gave a twisted grin in response.
It all happened so fast.
The unsub was in the doorway to a bedroom when a young, disheveled woman burst out of it and sprinted past him and Derek to reach the staircase.
She was screaming the entire time.
And then the unsub was roaring curses after her.
She reached the top of the stairs where Spencer stood, he reached out a hand to help her, but she recoiled away from his touch and shoved him out of his way.
Derek was yelling something.
But Spencer couldn’t make it out because he was suddenly at the bottom of the stairs, his body ached, and he couldn’t discern the screams from the woman from the sirens in the distance. Or Derek’s words from the unsub’s.
His ears were ringing, and his abdomen hurt.
The vest was digging into his chest again and he gasped for air; why couldn’t he breathe?
He grabbed his gun, which was only a few feet away from him and crawled onto his knees. Every shaky intake of breath left him with a sharp, stabbing pain in his side.
He tugged at his vest again.
Spencer gripped onto the banister of the staircase and used it as a support as he began to pull himself up. He hadn’t even fully unbent his knees when there was another loud gunshot, it echoed around the hall.
After that, everything started spinning and the ground swayed under Spencer’s feet.
There were more muffled yells from upstairs, and the wailing sirens were getting louder.
“The pitch of the sirens…its getting higher,” Spencer mumbled, to no one in particular, “it means they’re getting closer…the Doppler effect…” Spencer gasped for a breath and collapsed to his knees.
He didn’t wince as his kneecaps smashed against the hard tiles.
He couldn’t breathe, the stupid vest.
He was vaguely aware of black shapes moving around him as he lifted his hands to readjust his vest, when he pulled his hand away his fingers were slick with blood.
One of the black shapes was dragging him, away from the stairs.
Kevin Davis was in handcuffs, screaming as he was hauled past Spencer.
“Reid!” a voice called.
Spencer looked around, dazed. He couldn’t figure out where it was coming from.
Someone was taking his vest off, he wanted to thank them, but the words wouldn’t come out.
He looked down at himself, and saw his pale, blue shirt soaked in blood.
Blood.
Spencer didn’t mind it in crime scenes, he had to stare at mutilated corpses all day and didn’t mind their blood.
This was his blood.
Something acidic was rising in his throat.
And something was lifting him, heaving him outside. When the cool air hit Spencer, he felt it more than he had felt the bullet when it tore through his chest.
Derek was hovering over Spencer; he waved a hand in front of his face, but his eyes were still glassy and unfocused. He was laid against the rough concrete; it was uncomfortable, and his spine dug into the hard surface. He could feel that dull ache in his side again.
 “Adrenaline…” he choked.
“What are you talking about, kid?” Derek asked frantically.
“Adrenaline, when the sympathetic nervous system is activated adrenaline kicks in and stops you from feeling pain,” he gasped.
“Reid, save your energy okay – now isn’t the time for you to give me a fun science fact,” Derek said with a forced chuckle and sad smile.
Spencer tried to shake his head, but he only succeeded in scrapping his scalp against the tarmac, “I’m telling you…because the adrenaline in my body is wearing off…it hurts,” he whimpered, screwing his eyes shut.
“Spencer! Spencer! You need to stay awake,” Derek was begging, “the ambulance will be here soon, I know it hurts but you gotta stay awake for a bit longer.”
Spencer managed to muster up the strength to speak, “Derek?”
“I’m right here, kid. We got him, we got the unsub – Hotch is taking him down to the station right now, and then he’s gonna meet us at the hospital with Emily, and JJ, and Rossi…so you gotta hold on, okay?”
“Okay…” Spencer whispered; he was on his back staring up at the sky.
 The stars especially bright tonight.
“Come on kid stay with me,” Derek pleaded as he held pressure on Spencer’s chest, “the ambulance is almost here, and we’re so close to the hospital - just hold on a bit longer.”
Stars…that meant something to him, his brain was too foggy to recall what.
“Did you know, that astronomers estimate that in our Milky Way galaxy alone, there are about 300 billion stars,” Spencer rambled as they walked along the street.
It was dark, and stars sparkled like diamonds against the deep, velvety sky.
“I didn’t know that, but I suppose you are the genius here for a reason,” Veronica grinned, his hand was wrapped around hers as she tugged him along.
Spencer wasn’t looking at the stars anymore, he stopped in his tracks which caused Veronica to stop two steps ahead of him. He gently pulled her close to him, so she was pressed against his chest .
“Veronica, I…I think that I’m in lo-”
Veronica.
Spencer wriggled his arm as he tried to guide his hand to his pocket.
“Hey, hey, hey don’t move,” Derek said, panicked, “you bleed more when you move!”
Spencer fumbled around his pocket for his phone, he eventually managed to pull it out and held it out for Derek to take. The screen was decorated with droplets of blood which had transferred from his hand.
Spencer couldn’t look at it; blood, its just blood, he told himself.
“Veronica...” he gasped through short, jagged breaths, “call Veronica...” he said, his hand trembling from the strain of hold his arm up.
Derek took the phone from him and shoved it in his own pocket, “okay, okay, when we’re in the ambulance I’ll call her,” he said, nodding.
Veronica needed to know. He needed to make her understand why he had never introduced her to his team, she needed to know it wasn’t her fault. She needed to know that he wasn’t embarrassed of her, that he loved her more than anything, that he did want to be in this relationship.
Spencer gave a weak smile, “tell her...tell her I...” Spencer’s eyes fluttered shut, and his face, previously screwed up with pain, went slack.
Derek cursed under his breath as he put more pressure on the wound, he was already losing too much blood. The faint wails of sirens were growing louder until an ambulance pulled up next to Derek and a pair of paramedics dashed round to help him.
“He just lost consciousness, I’ve been trying to stop the bleeding...” Derek said, he moved back to allow the paramedics in to help Spencer.
They rolled him onto a stretcher and lifted him up into the ambulance, one of them ran back round to climb in the divers side whilst the other got in the back with Derek. He kept pressure on Spencer’s gunshot wound as the paramedic inserted an IV into his arm, supplying him with more blood.
“Here, let me take over. You sit back,” the paramedic said, motioning to Derek’s blood-soaked hands.
He nodded and dragged his heavy arms away from Spencer’s body. He stared at his face, peaceful from the lack of pain, and pale from the lack of blood.
That’s when he remembered Spencer’s words, what could be his last words, call Veronica. Tell her I...
Derek pulled Spencer’s phone from his pocket and unlocked it, he scrolled through his contacts app till he reached the ‘V’ section.
His finger hovered over Veronica’s name before he finally clicked on it. It rung and rung and rung. Derek’s heart seized in his chest - what if she didn’t answer?
Just as Derek thought it was going to go to voicemail, he heard a voice on the other side of the phone. There was loud music and chatter, but Derek could just make out Veronica’s voice.
“Spencer, I told you-”
“Hi, Veronica,” his voice cracked, “it’s Derek Morgan, we met earlier today...”

Surprise Egg 13/13
Unfortunately, no matter how tired one was, waking up was an inevitable eventuality. If one didn’t die in their sleep anyway. So perhaps Buddy should be thankful to be waking up even it was to a strange beeping sound and… that distinct hospital smell.
With a groan they opened their eyes to see that… yep, they were in lying on a hospital bed in a hospital room. It certainly wasn’t their first time waking up in such a location but it was their first time waking up in one while attached to what seemed to be a full suite of life support and monitoring machines. Because that’s what the beeping sound was: a heart rate monitor. There was also an IV and other things they weren’t quite sure the purpose of. Ugh, they’d only just woken up here and they were already tired of it and wanted to go home.
They shifted their paws up to try to push themself up but… nope. Even just moving themself to attempt it hurt too much to be worth it and thus they didn’t even really try. If they had to they could force it but while their pain tolerance was high and level of stubbornness even higher, they didn’t have any desire to when there was nothing worthwhile that could be gained from it. And having discovered how far they could push their body before it quit on them they would rather not do so again, especially so soon.
Thankfully as was often the case in such scenarios, it wasn’t longer before a nurse found their way to their bedside. Buddy didn’t give them a chance to say anything before speaking themself. “What happened? How did I get here? And where are my friends?” The last thing they remembered was asking Eggabell if they could take a nap and her encouraging it. Clearly quite a bit had happened between now and then. “Oh and uh… how long was I out for?” That was always something one should when waking in such a location.
The nurse hesitated for a moment, looking down at their clipboard and then back up at Buddy. “You arrived here three days ago. According to your friends you were unconscious for at least two days prior, probably a bit longer. You got here on an airship your friends landed on our roof. They’re all now in their own rooms being observed and where applicable taken care for their own health issues.”
Feeling even more addled than they had back on the island, it took Buddy a few seconds to parse though the meaning of all that. If any of the Snaktoothers hadn’t made it off the island surely that would’ve been mentioned, right? Hard to say for sure but for now they were going to operate under that assumption and hopefully confirm it later.
First, their story. Given the whole snakification thing there was no way word of this event hadn’t gotten out already. How much had everyone already revealed about the bugsnax? Hopefully not much because it was their story to tell! … “May I borrow a phone please. I need to call my boss.”
That earned a heavy disapproving frown from the nurse. “You should be resting.”
“I know and I will but… it’s important.”
“No.”
“Well… can I talk to my friends then?” Surely they would help them contact Clumby and get this whole thing started. Filbo certainly would at least, right? Because he should know what this meant to them. “I also need my pack.” They couldn’t start properly writing their story without it.
“Later. First, since you’re finally awake, there’s some things we need to handle.”
Ugh, hospitals were the worst. But if they cooperated it’d be easier for everyone and should win them some points with the nurses that would hopefully help them later.
~
Buddy must’ve fallen asleep again at some point because they were waking up again despite not particularly wanting to. They had important stuff to do though so they blinked open their eyes.
“Buddy, you’re awake!” Seated by their bedside, Filbo took their paw gently between both of his. “How do you feel?”
“Eh, I’ve felt worse. But uh… better now that you’re here.” They winked at him, squeezing his paw a little as they tried to pretend like the monitor wasn’t betraying their heart rate going up slightly because Filbo was holding their paw and smiling at them. But it was really good to see him. Mostly anyway. He was still snakified and Buddy now knew what that meant and… it was their fault. They’d fed him parasites for months.
Before they could go any further down that rabbit hole of unpleasant thoughts though Filbo squeezed their paw slightly. “I’m so glad you’re finally awake. I was… worried.” His expression sorrowed for a bit before he was smiling at them again. “I brought your pack with your camera and stuff in it. I figured you might want it.” He really was the best, huh?
“Awesome. Thanks. And uh… you think you could get me a phone. I need to call my boss and tell her I’m working on the story.”
“Uh… I don’t think I’d be allowed to. And while you were unconscious, we had all decided that we were going to keep the bugsnax secret ‘cause they’re dangerous and stuff. But uh… we kind of failed at that already. To be fair I did land us on the roof of a big hospital in the middle of an important city. So a lot of people saw us all snakified and you still had Sprout in your pouch so… that was a thing we had to deal with. We didn’t tell anyone anything specific though. All the newspapers and stuff are just circulating rumors and stuff. So… the full story coming out is gonna be from you since you have more right to tell it than anyone else if it’s doomed to come out at all. You have to promise to take it easy and slow though or I won’t let you work on it at all.” He gave them the sternestlook Buddy had ever seen on his face before. It was certainly well deserved though so…
“Yeah, okay. I promise to be good.” And they kind of owed it to him to listen to him after all the times they hadn’t before leading this moment. Speaking of everything leading to this moment though… “Everyone made it off Snaktooth, right?” They still needed confirmation on that.
Filbo nodded. “Yeah. Everyone’s okay.”
“Good.” Knowing that made them feel better for sure. “Now uh… about writing my story?”
Filbo gave them another firm look. “Later, after you’ve rested a few more days, please.”
“Fair enough.”
~
Being bedridden was the worst. Especially since they weren’t allowed to start writing their story yet. The only thing that kept them sane was Filbo staying at their bedside pretty much as much as the nurses would let him.
They were allowed additional visitors too occasionally. Even Gramble was eventually allowed to leave his own room and come see them.
“I brought Sprout too,” was the first thing he said after they’d exchanged greetings with him and Wiggle.
“He’s still attached to it for somereason.” Wiggle didn’t even try to hide her disapproval over it as Gramble pulled Sprout’s buggy ball out of his pouch.
“One little bugsnax ain’t gonna hurt no one. And he rarely leaves the buggy ball so it’s fine. And he still follows the pointer so… he’s different, I think. Since I could never train any of the others no matter how hard I tried. Anyway, here he is.” He held him up for Buddy to see. “He’s only here because you were carrying him in your pouch for so long all of us forgot about him so I figured you might want to see him.”
Buddy lifted a paw in a gesture for Gramble to hand the buggy ball over. He did so without complaint or hesitation. They placed it on their middle, holding it in place with a paw on top, as they peered inside. Sprout was just hanging out inside, looking around and doing a whole bunch of not looking the least bit like how one would think a parasite should look. He was far too cute, especially when he went nuts for the laser pointer. … People kept potentially dangerous pets all the time, right? One just needed to know how to handle them safely and properly and it was fine. So… they looked back up at Gramble “Can I keep him? … Or uh, I know you’re still…”
“Sure. Just as long as you let me see him lots too, okay?”
“Of course.” Permission granted, Buddy carefully pushed the buggy ball into their pouch. Immediately they felt strangely a little better, less antsy.
Wiggle scoffed lightheartedly. “Seems like the paternal instinct that would’ve normally gone towards the egg went to Sprout instead. I guess if it makes you happy though, I can’t tell you that’s wrong.”
“He’s a whole lot easier to take care of than an egg though.”
“Not really,” Gramble said. “With an egg all you got to do is keep it warm.”
“Until it hatches and then you have a grumpling you have to take care of and keep alive somehow. So, no thanks. I can barely even keep myself alive.”
“Well,” Wiggle said, giving them a meaningful look, “I don’t think anyone can argue with that.”
~
They were finallyallowed to start working on their article once a week had gone by and they were doing better. The temptation to push to finish it as fast as possible was there but… they were too tired to really go for it. Not that Filbo would’ve even let them. They lacked the strength to defy him or even try to argue.
Despite everything though they were still good at their job and thus they got it done fairly quickly. After going over it one last time for mistakes or any important details they’d forgotten, they were able to send it Clumby’s way.
Being done with it was a massiveweight off their shoulders. “It’s done! I’m done! I never have to think about Snaktooth again.” They were finally done with that cursed island and never again would they need to think about it. … They would though for sure, it and the unknowing harm they’d caused their friends and Filbo would undoubtedly haunt them. But for now, they were happy to be done with the telling of the tale.
“Congrats!” Filbo said from their bedside.
“Thanks.” They wanted to thank him for everything, helping them and being so awesome but… they were too tired to come up with the words. So their simple ‘thanks’ would have to do for now.

mine (You learn my secrets and you figure out why I'm guarded / You say we'll never make my parents' mistakes // Do you remember, we were sittin' there, by the water? / You put your arm around me, for the first time / You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter / You are the best thing, that's ever been mine )
state of grace (So you were never a saint / And I've loved in shades of wrong / We learn to live with the pain / Mosaic broken hearts / But this love is brave and wild / And I never saw you coming / And I'll never be the same)
this is me trying (This is very specifically The Trap!Dean) (Pulled the car off the road to the lookout / Could've followed my fears all the way down / And maybe I don't quite know what to say / But I'm here in your doorway / I just wanted you to know / That this is me trying / I just wanted you to know / That this is me trying / They told me all of my cages were mental / So I got wasted like all my potential / And my words shoot to kill when I'm mad / I have a lot of regrets about that)
the archer (Combat, I'm ready for combat / I say I don't want that, but what if I do? / ‘Cause cruelty wins in the movies / I’ve got a hundred thrown-out speeches I almost said to you  // And all of my heroes die all alone / Help me hold onto you / I've been the archer / I’ve been the prey / Screaming, who could ever leave me, darling? / But who could stay? // Who could stay? / You could stay)

I’m here to prove that Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of Spider-man/peter parker in The Amazing Spider-Man is objectively the best love action adaptation of the character. In this essay I will....(yes this is really happening)
Edit: 10/20/20- i want to indulge myself in spiderman content but finding non mcu spiderman content is exhausting so imma update this instead
TL;DR
Andrew Garfield is my favorite of the 3 Spider-Man actors. TAS’s Peter is more fun and dynamic than the cookie cutter “shy introverted nerd that has a crush on a girl who’s way out of his league” Peter in Tobey Maguire’s movies. I enjoy Tom Holland’s portrayal of the character, but hate the way Disney has written the movies.  I enjoy the characters, plot, and humor of The Amazing Spider-Man far more than the other 2, and i deeply wish we had gotten the third movie with the canon BIder-Man of Andrew’s (and my) dreams.
[DISCLAIMER: I HAVE NOT SEEN THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN 2 OR ANY MCU SPIDERMAN MOVIES OUTSIDE OF CLIPS AND REVIEWS ITS ALSO BEEN A VERY HOT MINUTE SINCE IVE SEEN A TOBEY MAGUIRE MOVIE]
Characterization
Most arguments against Andrew Garfield’s Spidey( AG’s from now on) begin and ends with “he was a good Spider-Man but a bad Peter Parker”. This references an outdated post comparing all three Spidey actors.(Id attach the image here but i dont want the post to be too long(thats a lie this is so long what am i doing with my life)) The post also claims that Tobey played a good Peter and a poor Spidey; and that Tom is good at both “roles”.(Honestly I think it seems silly that this seems obey the “third time’s the charm” rule but thats just me).  Most people using this seem to be Tobey stans who have forgotten or ignored the rest of the post funnily enough, but the ones that go further into the WHY AG is a poor Peter are also incorrect. This argument also ignores the idea that there can be more than one version of Peter Parker which is blatantly incorrect.  Just look at Into the Spiderverse or the PS4 game; these provide 4(5 if you count the pig) versions of Peter themselves, and that doesnt even include the comics.
Arguments that go further in depth claim that the AS Peter is too cool or well liked by his peer to be a “true” Peter Parker. The evidence for this seems to be that Peter has a skateboard.(which what? didnt realize that having a skateboard would instantly make you cool brb guys). Adding to that i dont really see where people get the idea that Peter is popular or well liked. While looking for complaints i found this qutoe from reddit(theyve since deleted it looks like but i’ll add a link in the notes) “He's angsty, pretty socially awkward, has an aptitude for science, and is kind of an outsider. He gets bullied by Flash and he gets his ass kicked after trying to stand up to Flash. He isn't a "cool" person in any way (until the ending, in which he's best buds with Flash, so I'll give you that). While Maguire is more accurate to the 60s comics where Peter in high school is just a fucking loser with basically no friends, in the ultimate comics, Peter is more of the kid who has a small amount of friends, but isn't popular.”. Honesty i fully agree with this because once again, other versions of a character are allowed to exist. You can dislike one version, but its silly to dislike something for not being exactly like another thing.
Ive also heard that Peter isnt “nerdy enough” in this movie which really doesnt make any sense considering the entire plot happens because Peter was looking into some of his parents’ research. If he wasn't interested in looking further into his father’s work what reason would he have to go to Oscorp where he’s bitten by the spider? Why would he have become Dr. Conner’s assistant? If he wasn’t intelligent how did he develop the web shooters?(something that Tobey!Peter doesn't have to do out of plot convenience might i add).
Another complaint i see is that the quips he uses in the movie(the first one specifically it seems) makes him seem like an asshole. Honestly thats a fair complaint, but i think its a good bit of characterization; espcially if he does get better about it in the second movie like the internet suggests. The Peter in this movie is a rightfully angsty teen; of course he acts a bit of an ass to criminals(also i feel like its important to mention that he’s like that to criminals? its not like hes being a dick for no reason).
Compare this with the Tobey Maguire(TM) movies. Like i said i haven’t seen these in awhile but as far as i’m aware TM’s Peter doesn't really do anything particularly nerdy in the film? I may have forgotten something( ok in the scene before he gets bitten he knows a cool spider fact) but he doesn’t have to invent the web-shooters because they came with his powers and he’s only at Oscorp in the first place because it’s a school field trip that he appears to be taking photos for. This Peter does fit the definition of outcast(friendless and bullied for it), but honestly i just dont like him. He’s weird and something about the character makes me feel like i should be a little grossed out every time he looks at MJ at the beginning of the movie.
I honestly don’t have any complaints for Tom Holland’s(TH’s)Spidey. Tom is a great actor and from what ive seen i enjoy his portrayal of the character.( He made me cry when i character i actively dislike died).
Story
I cant really say much for TAS story. It’s interesting but nothing special really. However, there is one scene that i don’t think i’ve seen anything like since( the closest would probably be the train scene in the original trilogy).
The crane scene. Early in the film Peter saves a boy from a car that has fallen off of a bridge, and at the end of the movie this becomes relevant again when it is uncertain that Peter will be able to get to the lizard to stop him in time.(as Peter is already injured and pretty far from the lizard’s location). The boy’s father is then revealed to be a construction worker who recognizes that Spider-man is going to need help to get to the lizard; he remembers how Spider-Man saved his son and organizes the rest of the construction workers to build a path out of crane arms for SM to swing from. All of them are putting themselves in danger by not evacuating, but SM’s actions in the first act of the film motivate them to do what’s right.
I love this scene primarily because it highlights something that i think is a really important part of Spider-Man’s character; his connection to the people he saves. SM is often shown interacting with and chatting with the people he has saved after the fact. One comic shows Peter accidentally scaring some bullies and then taking the time to ride the bus to school with them to continue their conversation and educate the students on bullying.( There’s definitely more but this is off the top of my head).
Another scene in TAS that i love is shortly before the crane scene when Peter is originally attempting to make his way across the city to stop the lizard, and he is shot down by the police. They manage to unmask him before Peter comes to his senses( he had just been shot and fallen pretty far out of the sky in his defense). From there Peter is able to deal with the police while keeping any of them from getting a good look at his face. The one cop he cant take out happens to be Gwen Stacey’s father who had previously had an argument with Peter about Spider-Man(Peter obviously on SM’s side and Mr. Stacey against SM). Peter turns and allows Captain(?) Stacey to see his face. I believe that this is an example of an unwilling identity reveal done right. i really enjoyed this moment because Peter had just shown that he likely could have gotten out of this encounter with his identity in tact as he had just taken down however many men. This implies that it was an active choice on Peter’s end to trust that Captain Stacey would ultimately do the right thing and allow Peter to go fight the Lizard, rather than a final desperate attempt to get away unscathed. Whether or not this interpretation of the scene is correct or not it still gives the character a bit more agency than some versions have done with their identity reveals.
In Spider-Man 2 Peter starts to lose his powers because he’s having internal conflict about wether or not he should be Spider-Man. Honestly thats kinda neat and i might want to give that a rewatch. As for the one i have seen i don’t have any complaints. I do however prefer the way that Peter was bitten in TAS because it was a result of him poking around where he shouldn’t’ve been rather than him just happening to be standing in the right place for a spider to land on him.
Onto TH’s movies; the way Disney has treated Spidey in the MCU is why TH’s is my least favorite version of the character. I feel like too much of the story revolves around Iron Man; Iron Man made Peter’s suit and equipment, Iron Man introduces Peter to the MCU(via blackmail but thats another rant for another annoyingly long post), its Iron Man that “makes” Spidey in this universe rather than Spidey being self-made. In Homecoming(which remember i havent seen outside of clips so bear with me) most of the conflict is cause directly or indirectly by Tony’s refusal or inabilty to communicate with the teenager he’s meant to be mentoring
For one the entire incident with the ferry could have very easily been avoided had Tony bothered to communicate with Peter enough to tell him that the situation was being taken care of. On top of that at the moive’s climax Peter is shown trying to get in contact with Happy(from what ive picked up isnt he a chauffeur? like idk his deal i just know he’s someone Peter got pawned off onto after Civil War). Peter even goes as far as to somehow hack into Happy’s phone(i think thats what happened it was a weird tech thing that shouldve been a red flag that the call was important though) but instead of listening; Peter is ignored. If this was a different kind of movie Peter literally could have died and itd be the fault of Happy and Tony like..... A large portion of conflict comes from characters being incompetent and not communicating and thats just poor storytelling.
Before this turns too much into an anti mcu rant id also like to say that the way they did Civil War was really dumb considering that Peter defects to Cap’s side in the comics, but whatever.
Also i loathe the way they handled the identity reveal at the end of Far From Home. With MCU movies most people know to expect an end credits scene by now, but typically that scene is not important to understand what’s happening in the films; they just aren’t important. Putting an identity reveal here makes it seem significantly less important than it is. On top of that i dislike their use of J Jonah Jameson for this scene.
JJJ is a character who has been repeatedly shown to have a genuinely good heart. All of his anger comes from a place of love for his city(he even says this hemself in the ps4 game when May writes in to tell him that he needs help). He hates Spider-Man because SM reminds him of the masked man who killed his wife; JJJ has never been able to get past that( and Peter’s antagonism of him definitely doesnt help) However, JJJ has been shown to care for people; he has a son who he often brags about, and one comic shows that JJJ is paying Peter for “amateur” quality photos because he knows that Peter is having a hard time and “just need some help”. JJJ has even learned Peter’s identity before and kept his secret for him(seriously though i cant remember the name of the comic but its defiantly worth the read), and in the original trilogy when Goblin threatens JJJ he claims that he doesn’t know who sends in the photos of Spidey because he does it via email( this is a lie). The MCU will have a very difficult time convincing me that JJJ would ever out a teenager’s identity and put him in danger like that. It goes too far against his character.(this could be hypocritical of me to say considering how i just insisted that multiple versions of a character can exist but whatever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
This is accidentally turning into an MCU rant but id also like to say that i hate the lack of a TH!Spidey origin movie because it gives you no motivaion for Peter becoming SM or explanation of his powers; most people will know these things but if youre unfamiliar with the character its bound to be confusing(and im a sucker for origin movies)

His Service ch 3: Sending all my love
Chapter 2 <-- His Service Masterlist --> Chapter 4
Tumblr media
Pairing: Tom Holland/Reader, eventual Harrison Osterfield/Reader
Summary: A series of memories of memories relating to the love of your life, Tom, and his service in the Army.
Word Count: 1,052
Warnings: Language, but no smut in this chapter
A/N: I made a specific Masterlist for this series with the chapter titles, since this one actually has them.
You spent as much time talking to and video chatting with Tom as you could during the final few weeks leading up to when he left for basic training.
It wasn’t as much as you’d like, but he was busy getting everything taken care of, and there was so much to do. You hadn’t realized how involved it was temporarily ending your civilian life.
The day you dreaded eventually came when he had to actually ship out, and you were a mess. Your heart ached deeply in your chest when your phone rang for what you knew was the last time you’d get to talk to him for a while.
“Hey,” you answered the phone, trying not to sound like you were on the verge of tears.
“Hey, love. I have to keep this brief. This is the last time we’ll be able to talk for a bit,” he told you. “Expect a short call later to tell you that I got there safely, and then I’ll call you to give you my address later on, but I’m not sure when I’ll be able to call other than that. I’ll definitely write you letters, though. As many as I can.”
“God, I’m going to miss hearing your voice. You know how much I love your accent,” you said.
“I know. It’s only 9 weeks. Next to nothing in the grand scheme of things. Alright, I have to go. I love you more than I can put into words, darling.”
You swallowed heavily. “I love you, too, Tom.”
“I’ll talk to you again as soon as I can. Bye.”
The call disconnected, and tears flowed freely from your eyes.
Fuck, this was going to be hard.
Your tickets were already booked for his graduation weekend, though. It was just a matter of counting down the long days until then.
-----
You got two less than sixty second phone calls -- one to tell you that he got there safe, and another so he could give you his address.
Your first letter, handwritten on notebook paper, was mailed that same day, and you mailed one everyday after that while you waited to get something back from him.
It took a couple weeks, but when you found the letter with his handwriting on the front in your mail, you squealed and quickly opened it.
Darling,
I’ve been getting your letters. They brighten my day. Please keep writing. I might not be able to respond much, but they really do make me happy.
It sucks here. This platoon is full of a bunch of fuck-ups. Not sure how many phone calls I’m going to get, and I’m so fucking tired. I want to sleep for an entire day.
As you know, Mother’s Day is coming up back home, and I’m going to try to give my mum a call when I have the chance. I hope you won’t be upset I’m not calling you instead.
I miss you so goddamn much. Christ, I want to hear your voice and see your pretty face again. I miss video chatting with you.
I’ll write you again when I have the chance. I also promised I’d write something for everyone back home, so it might be a bit.
Sending all my love,
Tom
You’d almost forgotten that the UK had a different date for Mother’s Day than the US. It didn’t at all upset you that he was going to call his mom, though. You were glad he was close to his family and had them to help support him, which you let him know in your next daily letter.
Writing letters to Tom and checking the mail were the highlight of your days. You hated Sunday and its lack of mail.
Time slowly passed, and another letter eventually came.
Darling,
Platoon still full of fuck-ups. Christ, they piss me off every single fucking day. I have so many stories to tell you when we can talk again at length.
Don’t know when or if I’ll be able to call soon. I didn’t know it was possible, but I’m even more tired than I was when I wrote you last.
Please keep sending your letters.
I can’t put into words how much I miss you. I would write more, but I’m so tired I can barely see straight. Fuck this shit.
Sending all my love,
Tom
The date for his basic graduation was growing closer, and you kept hoping against hope for a phone call.
One evening, you realized you’d left your phone in the bedroom while you showered. When you checked it, you saw an unknown number and a new voicemail.
Your heart sank into the pit of your stomach as you checked your voicemail.
“Darling, it’s me. I guess you couldn’t answer your phone? Don’t worry, I’m not upset. Anyway, my platoon fucked up slightly less than normal today, and I get a short phone call. Thank you again for your letters. I’m sorry I haven’t been writing back more often. I’ve been feeling under the weather for the past few days. I’m thinking about going to sick call tomorrow if I don’t feel any better. I have to go now. I love you and miss you so much. I hope to talk to you again soon.”
You couldn’t get over how disappointed and exhausted he sounded, not even sure you’d be able to listen to the voicemail again just to hear the voice you’d missed more than anything.
Tears were flowing freely down your face, and you were left sobbing uncontrollably into your pillow until you eventually cried yourself to sleep.
This really sucked.
Darling,
I am so. fucking. sick. They have me on IV antibiotics and fluids.
I just wanted to let you know that I’m, well, not alright, but still alive.
Fuck this place. I want you to take care of me instead.
Sending all my love,
Tom
That letter arrived a week before you were due to fly out for his graduation. As worried as you were, you had to assume he wasn’t deathly ill, or someone would have contacted you, right? At least you hoped so.
You kept writing your daily letters until the day you left for Oklahoma, not knowing if he’d actually receive them after graduation or not.
You hoped he would.

ARE THE SUPERHERO HUSBANDS RETIRING? - Originally Posted on 29 Oct 2017, at 19:57
Sierra Nelson BuzzFeed Staff - Tony and Steve Stark-Rogers not making any public appearances for the past three and a half weeks has, understandably, started a flow of rumors. Avid fans have theorized everything from holidays to assassinations. However, the most popular theory is that this is the end of their careers as superheroes and the beginning of a comfortable retirement.
Tony is over halfway through his forties - I know, we can’t believe it either - and Steve will be an entire century old next year. The superhero business is a very dangerous and taxing one, so it would be understandable that they’d want to quit now, after all these years of risking their lives to keep civilians safe.
As much as they’ve earned a it, saving the world and whatnot, there are a few things that just don’t add up with the retirement theory.
First of all, they haven’t made any public statements about it. They were not part of the fight that took place right outside New York City two days ago. Only Natasha Romanoff, Bucky Barnes, James Rhodes and Sam Wilson were present. People were, and still are, expecting an explanation as to why neither Tony or Steve Stark-Rogers were on the scene, but so far; nothing.
Another point that has been made is that their teenage son, Peter Stark-Rogers, has also been absent from the public for just as long as his parents. While not much is known about the boy, we all know seeing him out with his dads, or other Avengers, is a common occurrence, as well as seeing him outside the tower as he heads to and returns from school. This has led some to believe that they could have moved to a more remote city no one has figured out where is yet, since Peter would obviously have to attend school somewhere.
Something many have suggested is that this is nothing more than a successful attempt at a secret vacation. After the incident two years ago where the paparazzi figured out the address of their holiday home in Malibu, it would make perfect sense for them to do their best to keep their travel plans private. No one will ever forget the iconic video of the couple telling the paparazzi off rather aggressively. Rightfully so, as they had snuck into the backyard, spooking their then 14-year old son who had been out there by himself.
So, the questions are many. Have we seen the last of Iron Man and Captain America in action? Are they on vacation? Are they just keeping a low profile? Or is something else going on?
Peter had just been scrolling on his phone, but handed it over to Tony when he saw the article. Tony held the phone in his left hand - he’d finally gotten the cast off the previous day.
“What’s wrong?” Natasha asked suspiciously as she eyed Tony’s skeptical expression.
“Press is speculating about why Steve and I haven’t been seen in public for a while,” he sighed, handing the phone over to Steve.
“What’s it say?” Sam asked, leaning forward. Everyone else was listening now too.
Bucky, Natasha, Sam, Pepper, Rhodey and Happy were all spending the day with Peter, Tony and Steve, seeing as the second round of chemo would begin the next day. They often popped in for short visits, but Steve had invited everyone over for dinner to take Peter’s mind off of things. By things, he really meant chemo.
“Just theories about why no one’s seen us. Looks like it’s tied between retirement and secret vacation,” Tony told them.
“Secret vacation would make sense, though. I mean, after what happened in Malibu,” Rhodey commented.
“A repeat of that, and I might actually kill the paparazzi this time,” Tony muttered, not forgetting how much they’d scared Peter anytime soon.
“That makes two of us,” Steve agreed with raised eyebrows and slightly tense body language.
“Yeah, that was… not fun,” the boy agreed, a tad bit uncomfortable thinking back to the event, and adjusted his beanie. He was rarely seen without it now.
“Quite the understatement, kid,” Steve commented when he gave him his phone back.
“Can I see that, Peter?” Pepper asked, already planning out an approach to this in her head. “Thanks,” she smiled when he gave her the phone. Reading over the article swiftly, she soon handed it back, and straightened up, suddenly looking very professional.
“Alright, what we need to do is to make some sort of public announcement, or they’ll just keep on speculating. I’m thinking a small press conference where I choose who get to be there so we know that whoever’s there are serious reporters. No tabloids, no people who’ve written or spoken negatively about you before, etcetera,” she suggested, but knew everyone would agree.
“You’re the expert when it comes to this. Sounds very good, Pep,” Tony approved.
“But what do we tell them? How specific are we?” Steve asked to clarify.
“We don’t lie, but they don’t need all the details,” she continued, and then made eye contact with Peter. “And you’re old enough to be part of deciding how much you want the press knowing. If you want them to know what’s going on with you, that’s okay, but we could also just tell them that there’s a personal emergency. They don’t need to know everything right now.”
“Yeah… Yeah, that last option sounds good,” Peter decided hesitantly. Pepper knew that they’d eventually have to come clean about what was happening, but didn’t say it out loud.
“Who’s gonna be holding the press conference?” Bucky asked. He was leaning back in the couch, arms crossed. Natasha was sitting next to him, cross legged, one knee resting on his thigh.
“Would you two do it?” Pepper asked Tony and Steve, who both nodded.
“Definitely,” Steve confirmed, then looking down at a tense Peter next to him. “You don’t have to be there,” he assured him.
“Good,” he breathed out, not at all fond of crowds. Especially not ones where he would be the center of attention.
“I’ll arrange it for Tuesday,” Pepper said, looking around the room to see if anyone disagreed. Tony shook his head.
“That would be great, but… chemo’s Monday through Wednesday. We can’t leave Peter.” The boy squirmed at his Dad’s words, feeling like a bother.
“Oh, god. Sorry. I- Sorry, it completely slipped my mind for a second,” Pepper apologized, realizing she’d gone full work mode and forgotten about the actual nature of the situation.
“Thursday could work,” Steve suggested. “If someone could look after Pete while we’re gone.”
“I’m not a baby,” Peter protested lazily.
“No, but you’re not gonna be feeling well,” Tony told him, even though he knew Peter knew.
“Right.” He looked uncomfortable at the thought. He’d rather forget about it for as long as he could.
“We’re watching the press conference together, obviously, so we’ll all be here with him,” Natasha said, as if stating the obvious.
Peter was relieved, but also a bit reluctant to let them see him at his worst. Even if it would only be for an hour or so, it could turn out to be just when he’s puking his insides out. He wasn’t keen on anyone having to be there for that.
“Good. Good, thank you,” Tony smiled. How he’d ended up with such great friends, he’d never understand. Natasha sent him a half smile, a little put off by the way he was acting. The snarky, sarcastic Tony had faded away rapidly the past few weeks, and the change was kind of unnerving. She’d kill for a ‘thank you’ packed into a joke at her expense. There’d never been any doubt that Tony cared about his family and friends more than anything. But he’d always shown it in his own distinct way. Not like this.
“Sure. Anytime.”
────────
“You’ve lost some weight, Peter,” Doctor Anne Reynolds said, her face expressing gentle concern when he stepped off the scale. Before each round of chemotherapy, he had to go through a few standard tests; a scan of his lungs, a physical examination, and a weighing.
“I know, I’m sorry,” Peter said sheepishly.
“It’s alright, I know it’s difficult to eat. What kind of foods have you had?”
“Uhm, it- it hasn’t been very varied,” he chuckled. “I’ve had a lot of smoothies and milkshakes. And pancakes and, uh… soggy corn flakes.”
“You’d be surprised how many people’s go-to food is soggy cereal,” Anne smiled reassuringly, writing down what he told her. “Well, everything is set. I’ll give you more antinausea drugs this time, that sound good?”
“Yeah, that’d be nice.”
After a last minute trip to the toilet, he settled in the same comfortable chair he sat in last time. “I’m sorry, I know you don’t like this part,” Anne apologized when she saw Peter squeezing his eyes shut at the sight of the IV. “You’re lucky you’ve got good veins, so I don’t have to stab you five times to get it right.” That got a slight laugh out of the boy. “There. All done!”
He relaxed his tense body, leaning back in the chair. “Bring on the drugs,” he smirked playfully, trying to hide how nervous he was. The first time he’d been scared because it was all new. He didn’t know what to expect, other than it being not nice. This time he was scared because he knew what it’d be like: very not nice. Maybe even less nice than last time.
With even more antinausea medication than the first time, he became really drowsy, curling up into a ball. Steve and Tony spoke softly to him, and by the time he was switched over to the chemo drugs, he was half asleep. He fell asleep shortly after, and was only really awake to drink water. When awake, he recognized the warm sensation murmuring in his body that Anne had explained was completely normal, and nothing to worry about. It was constant, almost buzzing, and even though he’d describe it as warm, he still felt cold. He was wrapped up in a thick duvet, and was, as always nowadays, wearing his beanie.
It was Steve who woke him up when it was time to move to the bedroom. He blinked tiredly up at him. God, he looked so young. “We’re just gonna move to bed, and then you can go back to sleep,” he explained, putting an arm behind his back to gently push him to sit up properly. “And Dad has pills for you that’s gonna help even more with the nausea later.”
“Mhm,” Peter acknowledged, stretching his legs out; they were pretty stiff after being curled up for hours.
“You good to walk?” Steve asked just to be sure.
“Mhm. Yeah, I’m good,” he yawned as he planted his sock-clad feet on the ground. “Where’s Dad?”
“In the bedroom,” Steve told him with a smile. Peter was adorable when he was tired. Shuffling his feet, he eventually made it there, Tony ready by the bed to tuck him in.
“You just go back to sleep,” Tony whispered, making sure the boy was comfortable, and kissed his forehead. With closed eyes, Peter reached one hand up to pull his beanie off, dropping it next to his pillow before dozing off.
Biting his cheek, Tony held back tears with a slight grimace on his face. It was so obvious - too obvious - now how sick Peter was, and he hated thinking about it so much. He absolutely despised it. Still, he couldn’t stop looking at him. His son. His only son. Probably the only child he’d ever have. And that was more than enough - he didn’t need anyone else. Peter was all he wanted. All he could ever wish for, and so much more.
I won’t ask why, he reminded himself.
“You okay?” Steve asked quietly, observing his husband. Tony shook his head.
“No.”
“Me neither.” Steve tugged at his hand, making him turn around so he could see his face properly. He didn’t like the hazy look in his eyes. “Don’t go,” he pleaded, voice so full of emotion, yet so quiet. His fingers danced over Tony’s cheekbone.
“I won’t. I’m right here.” Even though he was whispering, it was clear that he was sincere. And determined not to dissociate again. Steve was too, and brought him to their bed in the same room. None of them planned on sleeping - Peter could wake up at any given time - but Steve just wanted to hold him. To keep him firmly grounded. Tony let him; letting his husband dominate his senses. They breathed.
Steve hummed a melody Tony only recognized because he’d hummed it to him before. A part of him wanted to ask him what song it was, but he didn’t. If he did, it wouldn’t be special anymore.
The lights were dimmed - dark enough for Peter to sleep undisturbed, but bright enough for his dads to be able to see him. They were both faced towards him, Steve spooning Tony, holding him tightly.
“When he was little, I used to just watch him sleep. I… I didn’t sleep much, so I’d just sit and watch him,” Tony mumbled, eyes never leaving Peter. The way he let his sentence hang in the air told Steve that he wasn’t done talking. He just needed to organize his thoughts. “Always made him look even younger than he is,” he settled on.
“Mhm. Looks like a baby when he sleeps. Even now.” His voice was slightly muffled by Tony’s hair, and he used the opportunity to place a couple of kisses to the back of his husband’s head. Tony reciprocated by bringing Steve’s hand that was resting on his stomach to his lips, leaving feathery kisses on his knuckles, then cradling said hand to his chest.
How much time had passed when a noise from Peter caught their attention, they weren’t sure of, but they were up right away to see if something was wrong. By the time they reached his bedside, he was sitting up.
“Are you gonna be sick?” Steve asked, a hand on his shoulder. The boy’s face scrunched up.
“Not sure. Probably,” he mumbled. His face paled. “Yeah. Definitely.”
Tony grabbed the plastic bucket from right next to the bed, bringing it up to hold under Peter’s chin just in time. As he threw up, tears rolled down his face, and he sobbed whenever he got a break, which in turn had him panicking because he couldn’t catch his breath.
“You gotta breathe, sweetheart,” Steve coaxed when Peter’s throwing up paused for a little while. His breath hitched, making him cough, but he got a good, albeit shaky, deep breath, and it calmed him down a little; stopped his crying. Another deep breath, and then he was heaving into the bucket again, his stomach nearly empty, and then there was only bile coming up. It burned in Peter’s throat.
When nothing was left, Peter was still dry heaving, unable to stop his stomach from spasming, and he was crying again. He absolutely despised that part. It went on for at least a minute, and then he was breathing heavily, feeling exhausted. “I’m done,” he sighed, letting himself be pulled into Steve’s side while Tony went to clean the bucket.
“Honey, will you get him his toothbrush?” Steve called out.
“Sure thing,” Tony confirmed, flushing the contents of the bucket down the toilet.
“How’re you feeling?” Steve asked Peter, voice low and comforting.
“‘m okay. Really tired,” Peter mumbled into his chest, and it was just something about the way that he was slumped against him that made him tighten his grip around the boy and take hold of his legs to carefully hoist him into his lap. “Not a baby,” Peter attempted to protest, but the way he relaxed in his Pops’ arms betrayed his words. His face was pressed into Steve’s shoulder, and Steve was drawing slow circles on his back.
The endearing scene made Tony swoon when he came back into the room with the - now clean - bucket and Peter’s toothbrush.
Not even two minutes later, Peter was tucked back in, having brushed the acidic taste in his mouth away, and he’d swallowed an antinausea pill which he was begging would work.
When he’d dozed off again, the dads were still at his bedside, and Tony lifted his hand up hesitantly. He drew it back, letting it linger in the air. He almost put it back down in his lap, but decided against it, bringing it to Peter’s head.
Ever since they’d shaved his head, Peter hadn’t let anyone touch it, and always wore a beanie in the day. But the way he leaned into the touch even in his sleep, had Tony and Steve smiling. Tony lightly drew figures with his fingers, consumed by the way his son reacted to it; the same way he always had.
The usual feel of his soft curls was gone, and it felt a little strange to caress his son’s bald head, but he still adored it. Anything that’d make Peter feel better, Tony would do, and that was no secret. Steve would too, and was just as captivated at the scene in front of him as his husband.
Quietly scooching his chair closer to Tony’s, he latched onto the arm that wasn’t occupied with Peter, resting his head on Tony’s shoulder.
“Tired, honey?” Tony whispered, turning his head to look down at his husband.
“Doesn’t matter,” he mumbled with a smile, meeting Tony’s eyes for a couple of seconds before looking back down at Peter, content to just sit there watching him. “Love you, Tony,” he whispered.
“Sap,” Tony smirked, but still placed a kiss to the side of his head.
“Sure,” Steve laughed softly, tightening his grip on Tony’s arm a little.
────────
There was a knock on their bedroom door fairly early in the morning. Being the least groggy of the three, Steve got up and opened the door.
“Morning, Doctor. Everything alright?” he smiled politely at Anne who was holding a plastic bag.
“Oh, yeah, all good. I brought something for Peter. Is it okay if I come in for a bit?” she asked cheerily.
“Sure, of course. Pete just woke up.” Steve stepped aside, opening the door wider to let Anne into their room. She always had a smile on her face, and it was contagious.
“Good morning,” Tony greeted her from the chair next to Peter’s bed.
“Hey, Anne,” sounded the boy, giving her a wave. He was sitting up in bed, messing around with his phone.
“Sleep well?” she asked, sitting down in a chair on the other side of the bed. Steve sat down next to Tony.
“Yeah, pretty well. Only woke up a couple times, and fell right back to sleep,” Peter confirmed, pleased with at least feeling rested.
“Threw up?”
“Yeah,” Peter grimaced, “but it’s fine. Less than last time.”
“Well, good. ‘Cause I brought you something.
“Oh?”
“Mhm. You said you hadn’t been eating very varied, right?”
“Yeah,” he chuckled, curious as to what she’d brought.
“So, I brought some other foods I think you might like.” The plastic bag she had put down by her feet rustled as she picked it up to put on her lap. “Get that overbed table, would you?” she asked Tony. It was right next to him, against the wall, so he was able to grab it without getting up, wheeling it so it was over Peter’s lap. “Thank you, Tony.” Both men had insisted on being called by their first name, just as Anne had.
First thing she put on the table was a small lidded plastic bowl of fruit salad. “I just brought small samples of everything, ‘cause I’m pretty sure you won’t like even half of it,” she chuckled. “But I think this is a great way to figure out more things you can eat so you don’t grow tired of the same things over and over again.
“Soggy corn flakes is getting a little boring,” Peter admitted.
“Good! Means you’re open to trying some new foods. This fruit salad doesn’t have anything with really strong flavors. Just bananas, pears, watermelon, honeydew and, uh, dragon fruit actually! Looks really exciting, but doesn’t taste much.”
“That sounds good, actually,” the boy smiled, taking the lid off the bowl to taste.
“You don’t have to taste it all now, I’ve got a few more options I’m gonna leave here for you, so no rush,” she explained, receiving a nod from Peter who took an experimental bite of watermelon. All three adults were very pleased when he gave a thumbs up.
“Next up is chicken,” Anne announced, pulling up a rectangle plastic box. “Skinless and boneless, and,” she pulled up another box, “you can have mashed potatoes with it.”
Peter nodded fairly enthusiastically, not even noticing the fact that he’d eaten five entire pieces of fruit. Steve and Tony looked excited at their son eating, and were so very grateful to have a doctor who truly cared about Peter.
“And then the less exciting counterpart to what you’re eating right now.” Another box was placed on the overbed table. “Normal salad. But, you might be surprised, this treatment can change up your tastebuds, so maybe you’ll love it!”
She proceeded to pull up a plain sandwich, applesauce, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, and even some mints and hard candy. “It can help with nausea,” she explained, sending a sneaky wink in Peter’s direction.
“You’ve got an entire buffet here, kid,” Tony chuckled, looking at all the different foods on the table. “Thank you so much, Anne,” he said sincerely, gratefulness gleaming in his eyes.
“Oh, it’s nothing,” she waved away, getting up from the chair. “I’ll get going, but I’ll see you guys in a few hours. Don’t eat it all at once, Peter,” she joked, and walked to the door. Peter laughed, waving at her before she closed the door behind her.
“You really liked that fruit salad, huh?” Steve asked, surprised, but happy to see that there was only one piece of fruit left. It wasn’t a big portion by any means, but Peter evidently enjoyed it.
“Yeah, guess I did,” Peter agreed, just as surprised as Steve when he realized the piece of dragon fruit he just picked up was the last one. He popped it in his mouth, chewed, and swallowed before speaking again. “Don’t think I wanna try anything more right now, though. Can we put it away for later?”
“Sure, I’ll go put it in the fridge,” Tony said, stacking up the boxes so they’d be easy to carry.
While Tony was out of the room, Steve noticed the way Peter kept wringing his hands together quite harshly. “You okay, Petey?” he asked, and Peter looked confused when he met his eyes.
“What?” Steve gestured to his hands. “Oh, my hands just hurt a little.”
“Want me to massage them?”
“Could you?” Peter almost sounded desperate, and Steve furrowed his brows.
“Of course,” he said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. And, to him, it was. Peter held out his hands, and Steve took hold of his right one first, kneading it gently. The boy sighed with relief at the feeling, visibly relaxing back into the bed that kept him sitting up. His eyes were closed, and the corner of his lips were curled upwards in a barely-there smile.
Getting back from his trip to the nearby kitchen, Tony looked on from the door for a few seconds, a little lost in how content Peter looked before Steve beckoned him over. “Sit on the other side of him,” he told his husband, and Tony did so. “His hands hurt,” he explained, lifting Peter’s hand up to show Tony he was massaging it.
“Mhm,” Peter confirmed sleepily, and Tony laughed fondly as he reached for his son’s other hand. Both men were happy to keep massaging his hands until they had to get ready for the chemo session of the day.
They’d do anything for him.
────────
Come Wednesday evening, and Peter was back to being absolutely worn out. Him feeling so well at the beginning of the second round on chemo had only been false hope. He’d barely been able to sleep, his bones and muscles had ached, and he’d thrown up a lot. But, he’d become quite fond of fruit, and ate quite a bit of that, to everyone’s relief.
When Tony had gotten the wheelchair from the corner of the bedroom, Peter hadn’t even protested. He just slumped down in it, feeling faint. Tony pushed him about ten feet before Peter shifted uncomfortably. “Wait. Wait, I’m gonna be sick,” he warned, sitting up straighter, and Steve was thankfully able to get the plastic bucket in time. Bags forgotten on the floor, Steve kneeled in front of Peter, while Tony tried soothing him with soft words and comforting touches to the back of his neck.
Leaning back, Peter was out of breath. “Done,” he sighed. “Sorry.”
“I’m about to ban that word, Pete,” Tony smirked, a hand on Peter’s cheek, and was delighted to be rewarded with a laugh. He dried away the tears on Peter’s face, and kissed his forehead.
“That was quick,” Tony commented when Steve was back by his side. He’d gone to rinse the bucket and put it back.
“Met one of the really nice nurses, uh… what’s his name? Tall, with that tattoo.”
“Oh! Uhm, Leonard?”
“That’s it! Yeah, he insisted on taking care of it so I could get back to you guys.”
“Well, that’s very nice of him,” Tony smiled as Steve picked their bags up from the floor. “You know, I could take one of them,” he offered, pushing Peter along, who was half asleep.
“Nonsense. What’s the point of having super strength if I can’t carry all the bags?”
“You’re right. That’s the sole purpose of the serum, obviously.”
“Yeah, you dum-dum.”
“My favorite insult,” Tony snickered. “So clever, babe.”
“You’re the brains. I’m just here for brawn.” Steve was barely containing his laughter, and Tony shook his head as he chuckled.
“So you’re saying you’re the dum-dum?”
“I’ll take it; that’s my own fault for making it too easy.”
“You’re both dum-dums,” Peter mumbled, eliciting surprised laughter from his dads, and earning himself a playful flick to the ear from Tony.
“I suppose we are,” Steve sighed, big smile on his face.
────────
With Tony and Steve having just left for the press conference, Peter was sitting on the couch next to Rhodey, leaning his head on his shoulder. One look at the tired the boy had Rhodey lifting his arm to let Peter rest against his side instead. It was a familiar feeling. Peter had always been a cuddle-bug with the people closest to him, and Rhodey had always been one of those people.
Natasha sat down on the other side of Peter, a bowl full of pieces of fruit in her hand for Peter. He hadn’t had much to eat that day, so Steve and Tony had encouraged them to feed him while they were gone. They even left a list of foods Peter liked, which now consisted of soggy cornflakes, smoothies, milkshakes, pancakes, fruit without too much taste, scrambled eggs, and chicken.
“If you need anything, or if you don’t feel good, you let us know, okay?” Rhodey said, lightly squeezing Peter’s upper arm.
“I’m good for now. But, uh… I should probably have a bucket here in case I need to throw up,” Peter told him, a little embarrassed at the last part, but no one else minded. “There’s one in my room.”
“I’ll go get it,” Bucky offered, getting up from next to Natasha, discreetly caressing her hair as he walked past her. The corners of her mouth lifted at the gesture, and she let her eyes follow him until he was out of the room.
Sam emerged from the kitchen with two smoothies; one for Peter and one for himself. “Here you go, kiddo,” he said, holding one out for Peter, but Rhodey reached out and got it instead. “You better not steal it from him,” Sam teased, and Rhodey put his hands up in a show of innocence when he’d passed it to Peter. He sat down in a lounge chair close to the couch.
When Bucky got back, he put the bucket next to couch, within reach from his place next to Natasha. She mumbled something in Russian that made him smile, and his response had her rolling her eyes fondly.
────────
“And you’re sure you’ve got this?” Pepper asked Tony for the third time.
“Yes, Pep, I’m sure. Don’t worry. Really.”
“Can’t help it. You’ve got quite the history with press conferences,” Pepper smirked, and got a small chuckle from Steve who was adjusting his tie.
“True, but this is about Peter.”
“I know. You two are gonna do great,” she smiled. “I’ll go and introduce you.”
Just as Pepper had said, it was a pretty exclusive press conference, with no more than twenty reporters in the room. Some were with newspapers, while others were with TV channels, so there were a few cameras there ready to capture the event. It was being held in a room in the compound that’d been used for press conferences on several occasions; perfect for it with a stage for everyone to be able to see them.
“Do I look okay?” Steve asked, wanting his husband’s approval before they went on national television.
“Perfect,” he smiled, running one hand down Steve’s chest to straighten his tie. And also just because he could. “Do I?”
“‘Course you do.”
A short kiss was shared before they turned their attention to Pepper, who soon waved them out on stage. “Good luck,” she whispered when she passed them.
They’d planned for Tony to open, so he stood in front of the microphone, leaning his forearms on the podium.
“Thank you, Pepper. Well, as you all know, we’ve been out of the public for a few weeks now. And, no, we haven’t been on holiday. Nor have we been abducted by aliens, or assassinated by the Illuminati,” he joked to set the mood to a light one. “And we’re not retiring either.” When he said that, his breath caught in his throat just a little. He hadn’t given it any thought. The world just might’ve seen the last of Iron Man and Captain America. For them to come back after all this, there’d have to be a miracle.
“But, as of right now, because of a personal emergency, it’s not possible for us to take part in usual Avengers business, or leave the Compound.” Tony took a step to the side to let Steve take over.
“While we’re dealing with this, we can assure you that the safety of the public is in good hands. As you all saw last week, they can manage better than fine without us.” He looked to Tony, wondering if he should say anything more, but he just shrugged. Steve nodded towards the reporters, a silent question of whether they should just open for questions now. Tony approved with his own nod, so Steve addressed them again.
“Any questions?”
A bunch of hands shot up, and Tony picked one out randomly. “You, with the blue and white tie. On the left.”
The man stood up. “Can you tell us who this emergency is about?” he asked.
“Not at the moment, no, just that it’s someone close to us” Steve answered. Short and to the point.
The next reporter was chosen. “How much longer will you be confined to the Compound?”
“We’re not sure. It’ll probably be a good while.”
Another reporter. "Is there a reason you've specifically chosen the Compound?"
"This place has its perks. We also thought it was best to get out of the city."
They kept asking questions, politely attempting to get more information out of them, but with Steve in charge of answering their questions, they got nothing else than the exact amount of information they’d agreed on sharing for now.
In a very out-of-character way - at least to the press - Tony stood to the side in courteous silence. However, one particular question had him taking over the microphone without hesitation.
“There have been rumors that you’ve put your son into the foster care system, is this true?”
“Absolutely not,” he denied firmly, but didn’t want to let him keep the attention, so he looked through the room to pick out the next one, but the same reporter kept talking.
“Wouldn’t that be for the best, though? I mean, with your lifestyles…” he trailed off, gesturing to them, and the room started murmuring.
From the tone of the question, Tony and Steve both had a feeling that he wasn’t talking about them risking their lives on the job, and the smaller man swallowed thickly before speaking into the microphone again. “Because we‘re Avengers?” he still asked, with a disapproving frown and tight jaw, hands clenching down on the podium until his knuckles turned white.
“No, no, it’s just,” he chuckled, but no one else at all were amused, “don’t you think he should get to grow up in a proper family?”
With ice cold eyes, Tony stared at him, doing his best to stay calm. “We are a proper family. I’m not gonna waste my time trying to get through your thick homophobic skull, so just get out.”
“What? Oh, come on-”
“I’m not joking. Leave of your own volition or I’ll have someone remove you.”
He muttered something to himself, a certain slur starting with an ‘f’, as he turned to pack his stuff up, but didn’t take Steve’s enhanced senses into account which were laser-focused on him. The soldier’s eyebrows shot up in disbelief of what he’d just heard that man refer to his husband as.
“Hey!” he called out, away from the microphone, but voice loud enough to carry across the room, catching his attention again. “Don’t you dare call my husband that. Don’t call anyone that,” he warned. "I don't think you understand how offensive that word is." He had a protective hand on Tony’s back who looked slightly confused. Steve cleared his throat, pulling himself together before calmly speaking to the crowd through the microphone. “I think we’ve answered enough questions for today. Thank you all for coming and being so polite. I apologize. Please respect our privacy and don’t speculate any further about our public absence.” He led Tony off the stage to where Pepper was anxiously waiting for them.
“Did he call him… you know-” she began, but refused to say the actual word.
“Yeah,” Steve confirmed, disgust clear in his voice.
“I’m really sorry. This is my fault, I let them send him instead of the person I requested, I’m so sorry-” she rambled, distraught at what had just happened.
“You couldn’t have known,” Tony cut her off, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “The only one here who’s done anything wrong is that nimrod. Not you.”
She sighed, sending them a smile that didn’t really reach her eyes before excusing herself when someone called her over.
Tony held Steve’s hand and looked up at him. “You didn’t have to do that, babe. I didn't even hear it. And I’ve been called worse,” he mumbled, just loud enough for Steve to hear. The look he had in his eyes was one reserved for his husband and no one else.
The words Tony thought would make the situation better only made Steve’s face crumple in disapproval. Not of Tony, but of anyone who’d ever made him feel like that. “That doesn’t make it better. It just makes me feel sure that calling him out was the right thing to do.” He made circles on the back of Tony’s hand with his thumb, lost in his eyes for what seemed like the millionth time. “I’ll always stand up for you.”
“I love you,” Tony whispered, squeezing his hand.
“I love you too.” Steve kissed his forehead.
With them in the room were a few people working, hurrying around, directed by Pepper; none of them really having time to notice the pair’s intimate moment at the edge of the room.
“Let’s get back to Peter,” Steve smiled, pulling Tony by his hand with him to the elevator.
Once the doors closed and they were by themselves, Tony placed his hands on Steve’s chest, and lifted himself up on his toes to whisper into his ear. “That was really hot.” A kiss to his neck and he got back down to his regular height, smirking up at Steve who was sporting an open-mouthed, lopsided smile along with wide, delighted eyes.
He collected himself, walking forward until Tony was trapped between him and the elevator wall. “Yeah?” he asked, voice low and gravelly, pressed up against him; now he was the smug one. Tony might pretend to be offended whenever Steve pointed out how much smaller he was than him, but Steve was very well aware of the fact that Tony actually enjoyed the size difference. A lot.
“Mhm. Now kiss me, we’re only going a few floors up,” a flustered Tony spluttered out, pulling him down before he could say anything more. They fit together as perfectly as ever, and the kissing grew heated within seconds. Hands exploring known territory, soft sounds of approval being swallowed by each other, and then they were startled apart by the ding announcing that they’d reached their floor.
Composing themselves, they felt like teenagers as they walked out of the elevator, heading for their apartment where they knew Peter was waiting along with everyone else. Except Pepper who was still working on getting everything back to normal at the compound after the press conference, and Happy who was doing his job as head of security. Just outside the front door, Steve pulled him in for another kiss, cradling his neck, one arm around his waist. Tony melted into him, and stayed glued to his side even after they pulled away.
Upon opening the door, they could hear everyone talking, and when Peter laughed, it was like nothing else mattered. They just wanted to see him happy.
And he was. His back leaning against Rhodey’s side, the man’s arm resting across his chest, and feet on Natasha’s lap, he was tiredly grinning. Everyone was happy.
Peter noticed that they’d gotten back and his smile got impossibly more radiant.
“Hey, Petey-pie,” Tony laughed softly as he walked over to Peter to place a kiss on the top of his head - well, the beanie.
“Hi, Dad. You guys were great.” He paused as if he suddenly remembered something. “But that guy was such a dick-”
“Oi!”
“-like what does he think this is? The nineteenth century? I’m so tired of people like him spewing bullshit like that. Like what- what does he even get out of it? It's not like-”
“Hey, hey, hey, it’s okay, Pete,” Steve cut him off, kneeling in front of him, before he could work himself up about it. He always did when someone insulted his dads purely based on the fact that they happened to be not straight. “There’s always gonna be people like him. And that’s okay, because we know that he’s wrong. The only reason I got so mad was because of what he called Dad. You're smart, so I assume you’ve figured out what it was?”
“Yeah,” the boy whispered.
“You gotta pick your battles. And, for me, this was one of the ones worth picking. That word just… It stings a lot more than other words. Okay?”
Peter nodded, feeling a little bummed out thanks to that reporter, but Rhodey was there and he was ready to make it better.
“One thing’s for certain, Pete; you sure do have two badass dads,” Rhodey smiled. He looked up at Tony from where he was still confined to the couch by Peter resting against him. They shared a look, one with decades of friendship contained in it. Just a slight lift of one eyebrow, and Tony knew Rhodey was asking him if he was okay. He answered with a crooked smirk.
Peter ended up being carried to bed by Tony after he’d fallen asleep on Rhodey. Making sure he was comfortable, Tony then pulled his beanie off, having gathered that he liked sleeping without it. Steve looked on from where he was sitting on the end of the bed, hand protectively resting over Peter’s legs.
“We need sleep too, you know,” Steve whispered when it looked like Tony was about to grab Peter’s desk chair to settle down in it for the night. Tony paused.
“Yeah,” he admitted, slouching a little, not caring about keeping up appearances for his husband.
He followed Steve voluntarily to their bedroom, intertwining their hands on the way.
Once tucked into bed, Steve stayed awake, humming songs and stroking Tony’s back to help him fall asleep. It took a while, but Steve didn’t mind. He was just happy when his husband started snoring.
Small victories.
