Decided to rank the fgo arcs from most to least favorite

Atlantis - pretty much every character firing on all cylinders. Charlotte and Mandricardo are some od my favorite accompanying servants, and i did really enjoy the relatjonshio between artemis and orion. Ir also just established a really interesting setting lore wise, and added a lot to type-moon lore in general with the olypmians. Also caenis and goredolfs scene was one of my favorites ever.

India - most interesting settibg imo, and i love jinako and laskhimi and the skyboulder. This would be first place but i felt kind of disappointed how they both got over being in the skyboulder within like five seconds. Also pepe is best crypter.

Shinjuku - jalter x salter. Need i say more.

Olympus - this is pretty much like atlantis except it made me want to rip my hair out. Fuck you demeter fucj you demeter fuck you demeter. The gods are great though. And mushashi and caenis gave incredible chemistry.

Salem - great story up ubtil the end. It felt like it kind of flopped on the whole reveal vut i liked how different it felt from every previous (and future) singularity.

Russia - this gets a slightly unfair bonus bcuz im including the prologue with it. Anastasia and kadoc were a great pair of villains, and even if the allied servants were only okay, patxi was one of the best non-servant npcs. Ivan was dissapointingly boring though and even though kirei was present he didnt show up too much.

Shimousa - musashiii. One of my favorite fgo characters. This obe might be higher but i had gotten burnt out on fgo in the middle of it which kind of lessened my enjoyment

SIN - qin shi huang is a very interesting villain, and we got the first true ancestor on forever. Who was inlove with an ancient robot. Other than that there wasnt much going on though.

Camelot - first actually good arc. Love the hassans and its the first time that anything actually felt threatening. I also do like the additional pwrspective it adds onto fate route, in a way.

Babylonia - this ones story was pretty boring but all the characters were top notch. It was kind of just like a fun ttrpg campaign.

Heian-kyo - just kind of a disapointing end for douman. It also felt like auch a fake out because i was ready for a cool grail war and instead it just wasnt one. Best part was the onis.

America - cu alter

Scandinavia - it was juat so boring and uninteresting. Ophelia was the only thing i cared about. And sintonai i guess but she wasnt even in it. Its still betrer than the eaely singularities though

London - better than the bad singularities worse than everything else. Mordred is there at least.

Okeanos - i like orion.

Orleans - no duh its down here. It isnt even jeanne alters best arc despite being her intro.

I didnt read agartha and rome so i didnt put them on but theyd be down here anyways from what i can tell

Hi! I just want to say that your gifs of The Terrible (2020) are beautiful. I didn't even know about this one, but these costumes look great, I'll check it out. Also the coloring is so good, I guess the show is hard to color, this tv channel loves yellow and dark filters.

Hi!! Thank you so much💜 Yes, it’s quite a new show and yes, it’s difficult to colour but totally worth it😅 I started watching Russian period dramas with Ekaterina. I really love female centred stories and especially if they are based on real historical women, so when I learned about the existence of Sophia, I had to watch it as well!! Not long after, YouTube recommended me a channel that always makes Russian period drama fanvids and there I discovered The Terrible but it took me some time to find it with English subs, that’s why I’ve just started watching it now and I’m loving Ivan x Anastasia🥹💖 I also hope to watch Godunov and Elizaveta (I think they are also produced by Россия 1) as soon as I find them with English subs, they look good!! Ps: More sets are coming🥰 and I like your url!!

A/N: This fic is a collaboration between @i-am-a-closet-fanfic-fiend and myself, and we decided to write a Vampire AU in honour of Halloween. I’m really excited to share this with you all, because Naynay and I enjoyed writing this so much. Divider credit to @whimsicalrogers​!

Almost everyone in Europe knew about the legend of Vlad the Impaler, the ruthless Voivode of Wallachia who was known for his brutal acts of war against the Ottoman and Hungarian forces. Vlad’s army was said to be the most cruel during the 1400s, led by Sir James of Transylvania, his most trusted soldier and General. Most people believed that it was Vlad who had the bodies of his enemies impaled on large spikes to scare off his enemies, but Sir James had been the mind behind it all. The true impaler, though he never liked to take the credit for his acts. Perhaps that was why no one really knew about Sir James. 

Vlad was the last of his bloodline of pureblood vampires, and as a reward for Sir James’ bravery, he had turned him. Although Vlad saw this as an honour, Sir James thought otherwise. While immortality was indeed a blessing, the fact that he now had the thirst for blood made him feel like he had become a monster. As if he hadn’t already been a monster to begin with. 

The loss of his humanity hadn’t destroyed Sir James’ spirit, for he had found himself heading East to attack the Romanov Dynasty in the 1500s. 

But what he had not expected to find on his quest was someone he least unexpected. Natalia Alianovna Romanova, the granddaughter of Anastasia Romanova and Ivan the Terrible who was presumed to have been miscarried but had actually been hidden away following her father’s death at the hands of her grandfather. 

Natalia had been raised in secrecy by a nursemaid, but when the Grand Prince of Moscow had found that his granddaughter had survived, he had sent his men to have her killed. Thankfully, Sir James had found the Crown Princess as she had been left for dead, and reluctantly turned her despite the fact that he had made a vow not to turn anyone into the monster he had become. Natalia owed her life to Sir James, and their friendship had stayed strong for centuries. Following her turn, she returned to Moscow to avenge her father’s murder, but she would always owe her debts to Sir James. 

It was during the 1600s when Vlad the Impaler saw his demise. When an elite group of vampire hunters got wind of the Wallachian ruler hiding out in Transylvania, they raided the castle and managed to kill him and his army of vampires. Thankfully, Sir James’ anonymity had left him unscathed and he had escaped the massacre and fled to Russia. 

Fifty years later though, James returned to his hometown of Transylvania, taking Vlad’s place at Bran Castle. Although the castle had been where Vlad had died, no one knew that the rightful owner of it was Sir James himself. No one except Natasha Romanoff. 

The castle was even larger than Y/N could have imagined. This new life seemed to have a lot of the things she could never imagine. When she had first asked Natasha to turn her, she never would have expected to find herself at the doorstep of Sir James of Transylvania. Yet, there she was. 

She had heard the stories about Vlad the Impaler, but had not been aware of his most trusted general until now. From her sire’s words, she knew that this man was someone she trusted. But given his history with the most ruthless ruler in all of Europe, she was still rather apprehensive about being there. 

Y/N followed  Natasha through the imposing wooden doors. It was colder inside than she expected, but she was certain the chill had nothing to do with temperature. 

“Tasha, are you sure I should be here?” 

“Yes. You two need to be introduced. It’s important. It will be fine, Pодная. Do you trust me?” Natasha asked her, the tone of her voice almost the same as James’ had been all those centuries ago when he had turned her. 

She nodded. “With my life.” 

“Wait here.” 

Natasha moves through the hallways with purpose. There’s only one place her sire would be at this time of night. 

The door to the war room was slightly ajar when Natasha reached the top of the stairs. 

“Good evening, Talia.” 

“My lord.” She inclined her head ever so slightly to show her deference. When she looked up, she noted the drawn look on his face. “You look tired, James.” 

“I do not tire, Natasha.” 

“Fine, you look old then.” She snickered. 

He might be the most powerful man in the world, but to her, he was just her good friend. 

James huffed and leaned back against his map table, crossing his arms over his chest. “What brings you back this way?” 

“I have a favour to ask. And an introduction to make.” 

“An introduction? How intriguing.” James clicked his tongue.” You’re normally such a misanthrope. Is it someone to do business with?” 

Her gaze narrowed. “No. It’s more personal than that.” 

There was some softness in his smile, despite the fangs poking out. “Talia, are you in love?” 

“Time has made you no less stupid, James.” She retorted. “No, I’m not in love with Y/n. But she is like family.” 

James hissed and arched an eyebrow. “Like family. Or…” 

“She is family. My family. And yours…” She stated, rather hesitantly. Natasha was well aware that James never intended for his bloodline to grow, so she was unsure of how he might react to the news that she had turned someone. 

“Natasha, you swore that you wouldn’t. You know the burden.” He pointed out, clearly disappointed. 

“I know. And I didn’t just make this decision on a whim. And neither did she…” 

“She chose this life?” He asked, incredulously. 

“She did.” She responded. 

“And how, pray tell, did she know what she was choosing?” 

This was the part Natasha had not been looking forward to. She needed to say it quickly in an effort to mitigate his reaction. “Her father and fiance were hunters a few villages away from where I had been staying. Some of the villagers suspected what I was and alerted them.” 

“I didn’t take you for a fool, Natasha.” He snapped. 

“Watch yourself, James. Y/N warned me of her father and fiance’s plans. And she begged me to turn her and take her with me.” She explained. 

“And you agreed?” 

“Of course not. I thanked her and sent her on her way, wary of her intentions. I expected an ambush and none came.” 

“So why did you not just flee?” He asked, still not understanding how things had turned out the way they had. 

A sigh escaped her lips as she shook her head. “Word had travelled too quickly. I would have been followed. I needed to kill the hunters.” 

“And did you?” 

Her smile was vicious and all too satisfied. “Of course. I started with the father. I collected all of his texts and instructions on how to kill us and more than a few trophies. And then set the house ablaze.” 

“And the fiance?” He inquired. 

“I found him and Y/N in the woods behind their cabin. He was going to kill her for helping me.” 

“So you killed him and turned her?” 

“Presumptions do you no favors. I was going to kill him, but Y/N stabbed him before I could. She pleaded her case with me once again, and I decided to take her with me. She had nothing left in the village, and the others would surely come for her... and me. I figured she could at least be useful in identifying them.” Natasha explained, hoping that James would now understand that she had a reason for turning Y/N. 

“And was she?” He continued. 

“Immensely. Her father had tried to keep her in the dark, but when her brother was maimed and killed she went looking for answers. She found her father’s texts.” 

“And instead of despising us, she became enamored with our way of life?” He scoffed.

“She wanted a way out. I brought her with me after we had killed the last of the hunters but I didn’t turn her. I showed her the life and let her make her own choices. She chose this.” She insisted. 

“But the power that Vlad’s blood holds. It’s too much. I should have been the last. I should never have turned you.” James let out a sigh as he shook his head. It was still his biggest regret. 

“I am grateful you did, James. Just as Y/N is grateful I changed her. She can bear the weight of the power. She will be a great vampire. She already has great control of her bloodlust. She has not killed a single human.” She vouched. 

“She killed her fiance, Talia,” James reminded her. 

“Only because he deserved it. You did not begrudge me collecting my own blood debts.” She pointed out. 

“No, I did not.”  James sighed, resigned to Natasha’s whims. As was the way of their relationship. Most would probably think she was his sire instead of the other way around. “I suppose this favor is a daylight ring for the fledgling?” 

Natasha nodded. “If you would be so kind. They’re difficult to find in the countryside. And I thought you would want to meet the newest member of the clan. Come along. It’s time to meet her. She only has a few more hours until daylight when she’lll need to hide.” 

“I’ll have Peter draw the curtains so she can roam freely.” He offered, knowing that this fledgling’s time in his castle should not seem like a prison sentence. 

“Thank you, my liege,” she drew out the last word. 

“Have I mentioned lately that you were a hellion before I turned you?” 

“And proud of it. Now stop pouting. You have a reputation to uphold.”  She remarked, rather cheekily. 

Y/N was studying the paintings on the wall, wondering if any of the portraits were of Sir James himself. It was only due to her enhanced hearing that she was able to pick out the footsteps approaching before they reached the top of the grand staircase.

Her breath caught in her lungs when she first laid eyes on Sir James. He did indeed have several portraits on the wall, but none of them did him justice. They failed to capture the icy blue of his eyes, which locked onto hers with ease. 

She immediately broke her gaze away and sunk to the floor in a deep curtsy, as Natasha had instructed her to do. “My liege.” 

“You may stand up,” he instructed. “You do not need to curtsy here. I am old but I am not that formal.”  

His voice was deep and rich and she was surprised by the mirth in it.

“But Natasha said…” Y/N looked to her sire only to find her suppressing a laugh. 

James followed her gaze and rolled his eyes. “Talia,” he rebuked before returning his attention to Y/N. “The first thing to learn about your sire is that she likes to tease people. I am Sir James, welcome to my home. And my clan.” 

“Thank you, my lord.” 

“You may call me James, Y/N.” 

The warmth in his voice put her at ease. 

“Has Natasha explained to you why you are here?” He asked her.

“To adjust to this new life. To learn.” She replied, rather politely. 

“Indeed. The first few months of this new life can be quite daunting, though I understand that you have already been travelling for a couple of weeks so the very worst is over.” He pointed out with a small smile, his fangs poking through his lips. 

Y/N nodded. 

“It will take some time for me to acquire a daylight ring for you. My witch is yet to return from her trip to Wallachia. Until she returns, it will be best for you to remain here.” He suggested. 

“Of course. Whatever you feel is best.” 

James sighed as he observed her, noting the slight tremble in her hands.  “This is not an imprisonment. My home is your home and you are free to roam as you please. I have feeders that come to me from the surrounding villages several times a week. If you need to feed more frequently we will arrange for more. I know the thirst takes some time to acclimate to.” 

“That is very kind, my… James,” she corrected herself. 

James did not want to admit the thrill that shot through his spine at the phrase “my James” even if it was accidental. He had known Y/N for only a few minutes, a blink of the eye in his very long life. 

“Is there anything you need right now?” He inquired. 

She shook her head. 

“I will have my servant show you to your chambers then. Just ring for them if you need anything.” He offered her a rather warm smile. 

“I will. Thank you.”

It's been three decades since the Cat came to terrorize Gotham city. A world you hardly remembered considering you were only a child. The city thought of her as a troublesome jewel thief, always causing absolute mayhem for the Bat. Not to you, though. 

You adored her. 

Stealing jewels and terrorizing cops had nothing to do with you. Who wouldn't want to take the beautiful jewels people kept in the shops and sold for more than you would ever see in your lifetime? Seeing a photograph of her outfit in a newsprint from 2002 lead you to where you are today: you became a fashion expert. 

You're hardly the lead costume designer, but Gotham Theatre gets steady work and they're the only people hiring… 

"Y/N! Why is Anastasia's ball gown not embellished yet?!" 

You try not to roll your eyes as your boss screams from across the warehouse-like  design room. "Because! I haven't cut the panels of the skirt yet and you told me to have Ivan's third act suit tailored first!" 

"You are not to leave this room until those embellishments are finished!" She walked out before stomping back in and screaming, "do as you are told, or you will be out on the streets selling scraps and scones!" 

After a couple of minutes of blessed silence, you finally close the last stitch on Ivan's waistcoat. Something within the warehouse hits the ground with a thikunk and rolls around on the concrete. As it comes into view, the clay vase is stopped by a tall, black heel. 

Shut up, you think but dare not breathe aloud. She's always been unnecessarily hard on you. She wouldn't fire you if you talked back (she would rather die than pay anyone unemployment), but she would find more ways to make your life hell. 

A woman melts out of the shadows as if she were one. She is tall, long legged, and the brim of her velvet black hat is wide. When she lifts her head, her face is shrouded in the black netting of a mourning veil. 

There was a very important funeral held today, you remember. 

"Oh," you stutter. "Hello." 

Her eyes pierce you through the heart and take your breath away. They are awfully sad and yet hold a power unmatched by anyone you've known before. She is so beautiful and confident that it takes you a hot minute to wonder why she is here.

"How… did you get in?" 

She doesn't answer, just smiles. "That's a very nice little t-shirt you have on there." 

You glance down at your shirt in embarrassment. Most people hated it (most people being the well to do or Batman's fanatics) so you weren't used to compliments. Nobody besides nerdowells liked your Catwoman shirt. 

"Thank… you." You're so shocked by her presence and her compliment that you utter your most secret thoughts, "she's kind of my idol." 

The Woman doesn't scold you like your school teachers had. "Oh? How unusual." 

The Woman's heels click and echo in the chamber of the warehouse, a sound so powerful it is unable to be completely absorbed by all the hanging fabrics everywhere. As she edges closer, you notice a small scar on her chin, the mature lines of her face and the hints of silver amongst her strict, blonde hair. She is a goddess in mourning clothes. It makes you stutter and fidget. 

"Y-yeah, I uh, I guess. I guess I just think that, um, that that would be fun, sort of, maybe. Not– not that crime is fun– I wouldn't know anything about that, what I mean is having jewels and jewelry to wear with fancy clothes uhm… ideally those of the not stolen variety…" 

The Woman sat delicately atop your desk and crossed her ankles. She towered over you from her position and it made your heart beat so much faster that it made you dizzy. 

"I'm sure that your notion was one shared by the late Bruce Wayne." 

Ah, yes. Gotham's brilliant billionaire… the one who was buried today. Passed on his fortune in pieces to a few unknown beneficiaries but the news had been abuzz about the one known– a young Damian Wayne who would inherit his mansion, his land, and his title. 

"Did you know him?," you asked her. "You seem…" 

How did she seem? Mournful of course. Perhaps also lost, exhausted, tired beyond comparison. 

"I did," the Woman answers simply. "We were great friends. Sometimes lovers even. There will never be another man so great as the late…" 

She did not invoke his name. "And that Batman business, well, all great legends carry on a torch, I suppose. There's already another one prowling around these nights, looking to fill those shoes." 

It was a common theory outside of Gotham– that Bruce Wayne had been Batman all along– and not one you as a common Gothamite had given much credit to. Yet the way she says it makes you believe it just might have been true. 

The Bat has been around for ages. If he were but a mortal being, he would have been old by now. As with so many other vigilantes and villains about town. Who would take their place? Batman was a symbol as well as a man. His legacy was one of a mantel which must be passed down. 

And what about the others? The seemingly human heroes? What about your hero, the Cat? Who will step up and fill her shoes? She must be older now too, perhaps still strong enough to continue but for how long? 

"You know, darling, I have been looking for an apprentice of sorts." 

Your eyes flicker back to the Woman. She has discarded her hat, revealing the tumbling gold and silver locks of her hair. And there were other things about her you noticed. Not just that black is her color, but… 

Her jewelry. A silver pinky ring depicting a cat with rubies for eyes. The black embroidery of her jacket seemed to depict snarling jaguars in pursuit of one another, over and over chasing each other in the camouflage of night. And her eyes. Her eyes seemed to glow unnaturally bright, as if lit from an unknown source. 

Could it be…? 

"You… you're… you can't be…" 

If Bruce really was the Bat, then of course she would know him. The Bat and the Cat played almost like a reality show– mostly fighting each other but sometimes alongside each other as their goals happened to align. But… but who was she? 

"Say it, darling." 

"Catwoman," you whisper. 

The way her lips curl is part smile, part snarl. "Very good, my dear. Now, shall we?" 

Graceful as a tigress, she stands and offers you one silk gloved hand. Without a moment's hesitation, you slip your shaking hand into hers and rise from your chair, your needles and thread abandoned on your workspace. She steps, you follow, entranced and excited. 

All the way out into the black of Gotham City night. This Woman– your own idol for so long– bears her teeth and says softly, "we have so much work to do!"

Do you know of any other characters similar to Xi'er and Fyodor Basmanov, the looks-cute-but-is-actually-evil kind (or at least does some pretty bad stuff) ?

Thank you for this ask, Anon! I've been thinking about the similarities between Xie'er and Fyodor recently, and now you gave me the nudge to write about them. x)

If we take only this looks-cute-but-is-actually-evil kind (or at least does some pretty bad stuff) criterion, then there are tons of characters who fit this description: from many anime villains and anti-heroes to, say, Damien from Omen or Tom Ripley from The Talented Mr. Ripley.

However, Xie’er and Fyodor have much more in common than this, in terms of character dynamics, tropes associated with them, etc:

- Both are young men, who are utterly, fanatically devoted to their mentors - older men in the position of power and authority.

- Their relationship with their mentors has sexual undertones: quite unambiguous in case of Fyodor and Ivan (historically true, and Eisenstein’s movie reflects it as much as it was possible in the 40s in the USSR), and more like a one-sided crush in case of Xie’er. Opinions may differ but personally I believe Wang Ruolin’s words that he didn’t portray Zhao Jing’s feeling for Xie’er as sexual, and that from Zhao Jing’s side it was only parental love (in his interpretation Zhao Jing didn’t intend to kill or harm Xie’er). There are hints that smth sexual does go on between them, but in any case Zhao Jing sees Xie’er and himself as first and foremost “father and son” while Xie’er would definitely prefer “lovers”.

- Both Xie’er and Fyodor are ready to kill and to be killed for the sake of their mentors.

- Both find pleasure in killing - especially killing those who disrespect their crush idol mentor.

- Both are connected to a sinister and murderous organization: Xie’er leads “Venomous Scorpions”, Fyodor is one of the leaders of the tsar’s terror squad, the Oprichniki.

- Their personalities are shaped by their mentors, and not in a good way: pure-hearted Fyodor is corrupted by Ivan’s influence, Xie’er is groomed by Zhao Jing to be his obedient tool, his secret murder weapon.

- Both have feminine features, and both fulfill the roles of wives for their mentors: 

Xie’er wears heavy makeup, his hanfu looks similar to a woman’s because of its light fabric and frilly skirt. In daily life he performs the duties of Zhao Jing’s wife: taking care of home, choosing furniture, preparing tea, etc. He also strongly identifies himself with female lovers like Liu Qianqiao and Luo Fumeng.

Fyodor serves as a replacement of Ivan’s dead wife, Anastasia, being directly offered by his father to the tsar as such. During the banquet he dances in female dress, with Anastasia‘s ryasna (a kind of traditional Slavic temporal jewelry, which she wears during the wedding) attached to his mask. - Both are prone to jealousy: Xie’er is jealous to Xie Wuyang, Song Huairen, Wuchang Gui and basically to anyone who steals his yifu’s attention, Fyodor - to Vladimir.

- Their mentors are their one and only passion, the axis of their lives, but in the end this passion becomes their undoing: Xie’er continues to pursue Zhan Jing’s dream and chooses to die together with Zhao Jing, Ivan unintentionally causes Fyodor’s death in the unfinished Part III of Eisenstein’s movie. (Historically, it’s unclear what happened to Fyodor: he isn’t mentioned anywhere after his father’s execution, but his wife and children didn’t suffer exile. Most popular versions are that he was either executed together with his father or became/was forced to become a monk.)

Also I have an impression that some Zhaoxie scenes from Word of Honor are sort of inspired by Eisenstein’s Ivan the Terrible. (Although, in the modern cinematography, what isn’t inspired by Eisenstein?! The man was a genius. Too bad Stalin was an asshole, to put it mildly.)

There is a slightly similar pairing dynamics in the Chinese tv-series Men with Sword: a general utterly devoted to his not quite good-natured king, for whom he is ready both to kill others and to sacrifice his life, but neither of them are evil, and their age difference isn’t big, so it’s a loose similarity at best.

Update: I think Littlefinger and Sansa Stark (from the books! not from the tv series!) are a bit similar. It’s unclear what are they to each other: secret lovers? Father and daughter? Mentor and pupil? Seems like everything at once. He is slowly corrupting her but at the same time she is his princess, his little treasure. And she benefits from his lessons and becomes smarter and more self-confident.

Although there is not a word about the war in the song, many people began to associate the song with mother Ukraine. Moreover, society began to call it the anthem of our war!
