Preview for born to run/die a little because I started working on it again
"Get ready," Vladimir said. "We'll be leaving soon."
Ivan donned a bulletproof vest and waited as Roman checked the buckles and straps. He ignored the gun Roman tried to hand to him. "Where are we going?"
"A meeting with Nikolai Denisov," Roman said.
"I do not know who that is."
"He's Pakhan in Jersey City and a brodyaga of Don Rossi. If all goes well Anatoly and Vladimir will be meeting with him and Don Rossi in Jersey City in a few months. You will be going as a look out so you will need -" Roman shoved the gun at him" this." Ivan eyed it with disgust. "And knock that off. You knew what you were signing up for so suck it up."
"If I say I don't know how to use it?"
Roman gave him a look. "Aim and pull the trigger. And I know your aim is good enough so don't use that as an excuse. Understand?" Ivan swallowed and nodded. "Good. Let's go."
Roman led him to one of the vans. He opened the door and ended up hauling Ivan in by the back of the vest when he tripped trying to clamber in.
Two of them men inside, Pavel and Kazimir, Ivan recognized. Pavel was in the driver's seat, talking to the person in the passenger seat, Ivan didn't recognize her. Pavel introduced her has Morana. "Is Felix here?" Ivan asked.
"No." Roman got in the van after Ivan and shoved him over to the middle seat. "Felix was not invited. Kazimir and Morana will work just fine without him." Kazimir glared at Roman and scooted closer to the door.
"What was that for?" Ivan asked.
"You talk too much."
"I do not."
"And you're touching me."
"Am not!”
"Kazimir!" Romar barked. "Knock that off.” He turned to look at Ivan. "Kazimir is what we call antisocial," Roman told Ivan seriously. "And Kazimir has this thing against touched. He hates it or something.
"It's an aversion to touch -"
"Whatever," Roman said.
"- and you're an-" Kazimir snapped his mouth shut and Roman's head whipped around to stare at him.
"I'm a what? Would you like to finish what you were saying?"
Kazimir pressed himself further into the door and shook his head. "No sir," he said meekly.
"That's what I thought," Roman said. Then, to Ivan, "this is what happens when people spend their days in dark rooms starring at screens." Ivan could only nod timidly in acknowledgement while Kazimir semed to shrink in on himself.
"Alright!" Pavel shouted. "That's enough! No more from any of you!”
"Who put you in charge?" Roman asked.
A muscle in Pavel's jaw ticked. "I'm driving, aren't I?"
"That doesn't mean anything. Just because you have an in with Piotr doesn't mean you get to boss the rest of us wound."
"I've been working for them longer than you. That gives me more seniority over you."

The Russian navy will soon receive a few dozen mine-sweeping machines from the 12700 project.
A source at the Russian Navy Command said that these ships will greatly increase the effectiveness of naval units that are working on tilling and clearing minefields.
The source added that the first minesweeper Ivan Antonov, of the Alexandrite 12700 project, had finished

A New Vigilante?
Once the man is taken care of and they have taken his statement Brett and Jim go outside. Batman is there, standing on the fire escape. There’s a kid with purple hair and several ear piercings standing beside him, looking nervous and excited. It’s Ivan, Brett realizes. And then he notices the pigeon, cradled in the crook of his arm.
“Batman,” Jim says, sighing. “Who was the guy.”
“Kept stealing. Tried to hurt these girls. I already escorted them home.” Batman vanishes then. Ivan freezes and the hand that was stroking the pigeon stills.
“Ivan,” Brett says. “What do you have there?”
“Uuh.” Ivan looks at the two officers then at the bird in his arm. “Nothing.”
“Does Daredevil know you’re here?”
“He probably does. Him and Batman were talking earlier.”
“That’s the kid,” Jim says in a hushed voice to Brett. “The one they ended up calling Ghost.”
“That name is dumb.”
“Ivan. Why do you have a pigeon?”
Ivan cradled the pigeon closer to his chest. “It’s hurt!”
Brett sighed and looked at Jim. Jim shrugged as if to say what can you do?

The Mystery of the Alexandrite Family
Ryan: This week on Buzzfeed Unsolved we will be discussing the mystery of the Alexandrite family. Now this one is different from others we’ve done-”
Shane: Why?
Ryan: You’ve got to let me tell you. Now this one is a bit strange, because of who survived, and what he may have done following it.
Shane: Well let’s hear it.
Ryan: So I don’t have the exact date since they were hard to find and most of these articles have been translated from Russian-
Shane: Ooh. Is this going to be like the one about the Romanov family?
Ryan: No. Weell. No. So this happened in a rather wealthy village in Russia, Đ Đ”ĐșĐ° ХлДз (Reka Slez). In about the late 90s. One night people broke into the Alexandrite’s family home. The neighbours called for help after hearing gunshots. Vera and Edmon Alexandrite were found dead in the living room, each from multiple gunshot wounds. Their son, Ivan, was found unconscious and injured on the edge of the woods the family had on their property.
Shane: They must’ve been rich. Just having a forest on the property.
Ryan: Yeah.
Ryan clears his throat.
Ryan: Later, an investigation revealed large amounts of money were missing from security vaults kept in the home offices.
Shane: Offices? Plural? What’d they do for a living?
Ryan: That actually has to do with one of the theories. Along with the money whoever killed them also took with them -
The video cuts to Ryan reading off a list
“- different ornaments, like decorations. Other things that were stolen include jewelry, just jewels and gems in general -
Shane holds a hand up. “Hold up, they just had gems laying around?”
Ryan shrugs. “I guess? None of the reports specified where they were in the house just that they were stolen.”
“And they didn’t have any weapons or a dog at least? No security system? What did they expect to happen?”
“I don’t know. No weapons were found in the house besides kitchen knives. They could have been hidden though. There were other things stolen though-
“What? What else would they have?”
“Paintings,” Ryan says and Shane shakes his head a bit at him. “The missing paintings were never identified though, so the family probably never bought any, just painted them themselves or got them from friends or family.”
“How did they know the family didn’t buy the paintings?
“They scanned the other paintings for those ID chips and didn’t find any. I’m guessing they assumed the others weren’t bought as well.”
“So is this about the paintings?”
Ryan half-laughs. “No. Not quite. It does tie into one of the theories though.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.” Ryan looks directly at the camera. “Now, back to Ivan
”
The screen goes back to black, showing pictures of a different family and a timeline.
Ryan: Extended family took Ivan in. His mother's cousins, the Bauxite’s. For three years he was under their care until - and wait until you hear this - they left Russia.
Shane: Did they take Ivan with them?
Ryan: No, and that’s the thing, he was left with no way of ever finding or contacting them again.
Shane: How old was he?
Ryan: Thirteen, I believe.
Shane: Jesus. Is he still alive?
Ryan: Yeah.
Shane: He know we’re doing this?
Ryan: Yeah. I asked him to make sure it’s okay. He said I probably wouldn’t find anything but he didn’t care.
Shane: You know him?
Ryan: No. He has social media, Shane. Anyway his entire extended family just up and leaves when he’s thirteen. No one really knows where they are though, or why they left.
Shane: Was it investigated?
Ryan: Yeah. There were no signs of struggle or forced entry in their house. It was just all of a sudden. Or any of the houses.
Shane: Poor kid
 That’s horrible.
Ryan: No kidding.
Shane: Everyone left?
Ryan: Everyone who was directly related to his parents. So his aunts, uncles, cousins.
Shane: Grandparents?
Ryan: I think they might have already been dead when this was happening. I can’t imagine anyone letting that happen to their family and if they were the oldest
Any the next two years are a bit unclear, I think he was mostly staying in orphanages then.
Shane: Wait- so did the people who killed his parents
did they have to do with the rest of the family’s disappearance?
Ryan: Maybe. We’ll get to that. They do think that the Russian mob killed Vena and Edmon though. Ivan wasn’t able to identify anyone but he said he’s positive the mob had something to do with it. This will also be relevant later.
Shane: Isn’t it solved then?
Ryan: No. When he was fifteen he was taken in by a family in America. Everything was kind of quiet up until two years later when he would have been 17.
Shane: So is the mystery about this Ivan guy?
Ryan: Kind of. His parents too. You’ll see why.
Shane: What happened when he was 17? Also, what happened to all his parents' money and the rest of their stuff? Wouldn’t it have been given to him at that point?
Ryan: About the money, that’s actually part of one of the theories so I’ll get to that later. And about what was happening when he was 17
Some people following the case saw that he had gotten a tattoo. It’s a circle with a dot in the middle of it, it’s known as “The Roundstone.” It indicates the person is an orphan and it also is known to mean “Trust only yourself.”
Shane: Rough. But it’s really just a tattoo.
Ryan: Not any tattoo Shane. It is a common tattoo among vory v zakone, or, as they are better known, the Russian mob.
Shane. Wait. What?
The video shows them both at the table.
“Yeah,” Ryan says. “Isn’t it crazy?”
“So this guy says he thinks the Russian mob killed his family, and then he goes and joins them?”
“Maybe. Maybe he just likes the irony of it.”
“That’s
”
“I know. It gets weirder.”
“Of course it does.”
The screen goes to black and two pictures come on screen. One is labelled ‘Anatoly’ and the other is labelled ‘Vladimir.’
Ryan: Around the same time and after he was seen interacting with Anatoly Ranskahov and Vladimir Ranskahov, two very well known members of the Russian mob.
Shane: Couldn’t they have to do with his parents' murders though? Why would he be talking to them?”
Ryan: They couldn’t have killed his parents. When the Alexandrite’s were killed the Ranskahov’s would have been in jail, both on a three year sentence that they did, surprisingly, complete.
Shane: Why is it surprising?
Ryan: Because they later escaped a different prison in 2007 after only having been there for a few years and they still had quite a lot of time left on their sentences.
Shane: Strange.
Ryan: Yeah it is. Anyway, he was seen with known and suspected members a few times. At one point he was also seen with Oliver Queen, and not looking at all happy about it.
Shane: Does Oliver Queen have something to do with this? Ryan: It’s not likely, there isn’t enough evidence to prove that he does.
Shane: Where are you going with this?
Ryan: I’m getting there. About five years later he was seen leaving a mechanic where he supposedly worked at the time. Someone saw that he had a new tattoo, one that looked fresh.
Shane: Fresh? How does a tattoo look fresh?
Ryan: I don’t know. That’s what they said. Anyway, it’s of a cat wearing a hat-”
The video shows Shane laughing. “The cat in the hat?”
“No!” Ryan laughs too. “No. More like Puss in Boots.”
“Oh. So like Shrek.”
“Aah
Not quite. The cat that uses trickery and deceit to gain wealth and power. So. Not as cute as the ‘Puss’ from Shrek. It’s supposedly a traditional sign of the thieves, or vory.”
“So ‘vory’ is ‘thieves’ in Russian?”
“Yes.” “What’s ‘thief’ then?”
“
”
“What is it, Ryan?”
“I don’t want this to get demonetized. V-O-R. Figure it out yourself.”
“Oh. So this puss in boots is a Russian thief tattoo?”
“Supposedly.”
“You didn’t ask Ivan to confirm their meanings or if he even has them at all? Are there any pictures of these supposed tattoos?”
“I actually did ask. He does have the Roundstone one.”
“Well did he confirm its meaning?”
“Yes.”
“What about the cat in the hat?”
“No. He just said,” Ryan slides his phone across the table to show Shane, “and I quote, ‘LOL. Nope.’ and didn’t say anything else. Anyway, at the time he was leaving the mechanic he would have been about 22 years old.”
“So there are these random people creeping him on the internet?”
“I guess. Now on to the theories!”
The screen cuts to black. The words ‘Theory One’ come up on screen.
Shane: If you say this ten-year-old kid somehow orchestrated his parents murder-
Ryan: No! No. The first theory comes from Ivan himself and what the authorities suspect. He said he would use to hear his parents talk, talk about people who threatened them and what to do about it. He thinks the mafia was interested in his parents' money and they were threatening his parents into handing it over.
This is probably the most likely one considering how wealthy his parents were and neither of them had an extensive criminal record.
Shane: So the money
How would they have gotten it? What did they do for work?
Ryan: Right! Theory two then. Some people think at one point his parents were involved with, or part of, the mafia and that’s how they ended up so wealthy. They kept a lot of locked up documents in the offices. Some of them were even coded. Some people also think the stolen paintings might have had codes hidden in them and that’s why the mob chose to take those paintings instead of the others. It would also explain why they were killed- easiest way to shut someone up.
Shane: What about Ivan? Wouldn’t the ones he was with try to kill him?
Ryan: Not exactly. The Rusian mob’s hierarchy isn’t very well documented and it’s more
fluid, I guess, then other mafias are. The two groups might not even know each other.
Shane: So the Alexandrite’s were involved with the mob? Ryan: It’s possible. They’re dead so we can’t ask them, Ivan was too young to know which is why he might be alive, and no one would want to come forward with information since it would likely end with them in prison. Also, this case is still technically under investigation, it’s why Ivan can’t get any of his parents fortune. If it’s dirty blood money then the authorities would need to know that before handing it over to Ivan.
Shane: That’d be tough. Going through all that
So is Ivan part of the mob then? Ryan: I don’t know.
Shane: What about the will? Wouldn’t they have one? Especially since the mob was threatening them. And why wouldn’t they go to the police or invest in some sort of alarm system or security?
Ryan: That’s why people think they were once in the mob. And it wouldn’t be safe to raise a kid into a mob- which might be why they left. The video shows both of them still at the table. Ryan is looking at Shane. “What do you think Shane?”
“I think the mob was definitely involved in some way. Were those the only theories?”
“Yeah. It was hard to get my hands on anything else since it’s still an ongoing investigation.”
“Did they ask Ivan anything?”
“He didn’t really remember anything. A night like that would be traumatic to anyone, especially a little kid.”
“How old is he now?”
“About 25 I think.”
The screen shows pictures of the Alexandrite house and the surrounding houses.
Ryan: What happened that fateful night would turn into a lifetime of mystery and wondering. Anyone who truly knows what happened is now dead or won’t be coming forward. For now, this case is Unsolved.
The word ‘Unsolved’ in red bold letters appears on screen and fades away as the video shows Shane and Ryan.
“The mob definitely did it,” Shane says.
“Oh yeah.”
“Think they’ll ever find out who did it?”
“Probably. Who knows, maybe we’ll be coming back to this.”
“Maybe we will.”

among us - russian mafia bros play among us
A door slammed against the wall, startling Felix from his sleep. He scowled in the direction of the door. “What do you want?”
“Lixa!” He groaned. “Were you asleep?”
“Yes.” He rubbed his eyes and groaned again. “Urg.”
“What?”
“My eyes hurt.”
“Why would they be hurting?”
“I fell asleep with my contacts again.” Felix swiped at his computer screen. Nothing. He frowned. He tried the power on his computer. Still nothing. Dead. He sighed and plugged it back in.
“So.” Ivan sat in the chair next to his. “Why is it that whenever I come to visit you’re sleeping? I thought Grisha didn’t like slackers.”
“I was working. I was waiting for some things to download and it was taking too long so I was watching a show
And then forgot about work. Anyway-” Felix spun in the chair to face Ivan “-what do you want?”
 “So there’s this new game-”
“Vanya I have work,” Felix said and he gestured to the still blank monitor.
“Hmm.” Ivan peered closer. “Computer still looks dead. So we can play.”
 “Fine. What is it?”
“It’s called Among Us. It’s people on a spaceship and they get to kill each other and then the other people try to figure out who the murderers are.”
 “Where do I get it?”
 “On your phone.”
The game was quick to download. As soon as Felix had it up Ivan thrust his own phone at him and told him to put in the code. “So. How do I know if I’m a murderer or not?”
“If you’re imposter you kill people. If you aren’t you try not to die and try to find out who the imposter is.”
“Seems simple enough,” Felix said to himself.
He died almost immediately. The computer was back and alive and he went back to downloading what Vladimir needed and looking for a way to contact an old ally. The search came up empty and he looked back at the game. The ghosts were currently in the chat yelling at the imposter. Felix felt he could relate.
“You die yet?” he asked Ivan.
“Never,” Ivan said in a low voice. “I. Will. Not. Lose.”
“...You must really like this game.”
 *
Ivan must’ve introduced the game to some of the others because the next day they were arguing about it when Felix walked in. Grisha was staring from the doorway to his office. “Why,” he said, looking like he was staring off into the distance. He looked at Felix. “How does this always happen?”
Felix just shrugged and continued his search through the of the internet.
 *
On their way back to the safehouse a group of, they were kids really, stopped them. There were ten of them to their eight.
 “Move,” Vladimir barked.
“Make us,” own of them taunted. Vladimir glared at him and he faltered under the weight of the stare. “This is Irish territory. Go somewhere else,” he said weakly.
One of the other, bigger, ones shoved his way forward. “This is why Maeve put  me  in charge.” He puffed his chest out and stared at Vladimir. “You have to go somewhere else! This is irish territory now.” He stuck his chin up and grinned triumphantly.
Vladimir took a step forward. “Since when.”
“Since last week. Now go! Maeve doesn’t want any uhh. Uhh. Gop-”
“Alright.” Vladimir walked up to their leader and stared down at him. “I’ve had enough. Get out of here. Go home.”
 “Or else  what ?”
Vladimir narrowed his eyes and glared down at him. “Do you want to find out?” He crossed his arms and tapped his foot.
The kid eyed him, swallowed and took a step back. “There’s more of us than  you .”
 “Listen kid-”
Somehow one of them had snuck off without their notice. Ivan yelped and they turned to look at him. He had one of the kids by their hood and was holding a switchblade in his other hand. “Kid tried to stab me,” he said and he shook the kid roughly. The kid look close to tears and they let out a whimper as they tried to sneak away and Ivan tightened his hold.
“You listen here,” Ivan all but snarled. “You stay out of here. Don’t do shit like this. You can get killed.” Ivan shook them again. “Do you understand?”
The kid whimpered a ‘yes’ and scampered away as soon as Ivan relaxed his hold. Most scattered after that, leaving in groups of twos and threes.
While their peers left three rather bold, rather stupid, kids still held their ground. They quickly left after being starred down but not before one of them managed to get Felix with his knife.
There was a clattering on the fire-escape above them and all of them looked up. Matt was standing there, in his old black attire. “Must you all be getting into fights on my doorstep?”
 “Sorry Motya,” Vladimir said.
“Someone’s bleeding. You had better come in.
“Through the  door ,” he added after Vladimir made for the fire-escape. “I’ll let you in.”
“I know,” Ivan said after they had settled on the couches and had been introduced to Matt’s friends and thoroughly threatened not to hurt them, “we could play Among Us.”
“Your awfully good at that,” Foggy commented, eyeing Piotr stitching the cut on Felix’s chest.
“Thanks. I work with a bunch of idiots. Can you believe,” he nudged Vladimir with his foot, “this one thought it would be a good idea to dump vodka on an open wound? A bunch of tupitsy all of them.”
“Rude,” Vladimir said and punched Piotr’s arm.
Felix yelped when the needle jabbed him painfully. “Sorry,” Piotr soothed. He glared at Vladimir and kicked him. “Don’t  do that. That’s why you get called ‘tupitsa’.”
“Did you make a game?” Felix asked through gritted teeth. He screwed his eyes shut at a particularly painful stitch.
 “Yeah.”
The rest of them, excluding Piotr and Vladimir who was put in a ‘timeout’ by Piotr,  got on, to Ivan and Felix’s surprise. Ivan picked his way through them quickly until the very end when he was inevitably voted out when he was slipping.
Several games later Matt, Foggy, and Karen were invested in the outcomes of their numerous rounds. They had been given food and drinks and seemed inclined to stay as long they’d be allowed.
Another game was started after a rather sloppy one that resulted in arguments over what rules should be made specifically for the players involved. Their ‘discussion’ came to no such argument so another game was started.
"Vanya," Felix grumbled, "stop following me and do your tasks."
"I am. I guess they're in the same direction."
"Uh-huh." Felix looked over at Ivan's phone and narrowed his eyes. "Why is your name red?"
"Oh Lixa," Ivan said sweetly, "you don't have your glasses on. You must have seen it wrong.” Ivan twisted around and turned the screen away. Felix scowled.
"I found my contacts liar ." Felix looked back down at his phone and his mouth dropped open as he watched Ivan kill him. It dropped lower when he watched Ivan report it.
"You see who did it?" Piotr asked.
"No. I just saw the long tongue thing impale him," Ivan said.
 "That is not- "
"Shh." Ivan pressed a finger to Felix’s lips and Felix blinked and stared down at him. "You're a ghost so you can't talk."
"That wasn't a rule when you died last round."
"Scream into the void," Aslan said. He looked at Felix's phone. "Was that you who died?"
"Yes. You should know this. It shows our names on screen. Anyway, Ivan is not being fair."
"Quit pouting," Piotr chastised. "So the rules changed. It's not that big a deal."
"You don't think it's suspicious he made that rule after I died and he's the one who reported it?"
 "No. Why?"
Felix blinked. "Of course not," he grumbled.
"Someone just killed me!" Anatoly yelled. It seemed only Felix noticed the faint smirk on Ivan's lips.
"Now you can't talk Tolya," Piotr said and he smirked. Anatoly scowled.
"I say we need to do an emergency meeting," Vladimir said.
The meeting did not come to a final conclusion and Vladimir found himself gawping at his phone. His character was lying there, beheaded.
He opened his mouth to say something but Piotr shushed him. "No talking Blondie."
Aslan and Sergei shared a look. They looked at Dmitri. Sergei called another meeting.
While the meeting was going on Anatoly, Felix, and Vladimir raged in the chat about the unfairness of it all. All three came to the conclusion Piotr was very much "sus" as the kids would put it. Very much sus indeed.
"Hey!" Ivan cried as he watched his character being thrown out of the spaceship.
 "I knew it!" Felix shouted.
"Shut up Ghost," Sergei said. "And sit back down. You almost knocked the food and my drink on the floor.
"Of course you say your drink. What about other people's drinks?"
 "I mentioned the others food didn't I-"
"Maybe we should be more concerned about the stitches he almost pulled out," Piotr said and he sniffed. "Again. For the third time actually."
 "I'm sorry- "
"You all are very competitive about this aren't you," Matt said.
"These people are cheating," Vladimir whined, though he later profusely denied it. "Make them stop."
 "I don't know. Foggy, should I?"
 "Nah. It's pretty entertaining."
"I'll say," Karen said, and she lifted her drink in their direction.
"What the hell! Who killed me!?" Dmitri whipped his head around and scowled at the remaining players.
Piotr stared back nonchalantly. He pointed at Aslan.
"Rude," Dmitri growled at Aslan. "I thought we were supposed to be teammates!"
"We are! I didn't kill you!"
"That's exactly what you'd say if you did kill me!"
"I didn't!"
"I don't know," Piotr drawled. "Seems pretty sus to me."
Ivan let out a drawn out breath. "Please don't say sus. You're too old."
"Sus sus sus sus sus," Sergei chanted and Aslan cuffed him on the head.
"Knock that off. You're the reason we're banned from using internet words."
"That's another reason," Felix said. "You say stuff like that."
"Guys!" Dmitri shouted. "Would you stop fighting already! Piotr has killed you both already!"
Sergei and Aslan looked down at phones heads and stared in horror at the glowing red 'defeated'.
Piotr and Ivan both cheered loudly. "Again!" Ivan shouted and he was immediately shot down.
"I've had enough," Vladimir said. "You both always gang up on everyone. Even if you aren't imposter you team up with them and end up voting them off."
"Well you better find yourself a teammate than spoilsport," Piotr said. He patted Vladimir on the shoulder. "You're losing your game Voldoya."
"I'll show you losing your game," Vladimir growled and he lunged at him.
"Hey! Enough of that! Not in the house!"
Vladimir sat back down almost sheepishly. "Sorry, Motya."
"You've really mellowed him," Piotr told Matt and Vladimir stood up again.
"I'll show you mellowed-"
"How about we call it a night," Foggy said. "I think we've had enough of all-" he waved a hand "-this."
"Foggy," Karen said as she stood, "is right. Good night everyone." She waved goodbye as she left and a chorus of goodbyes followed her as she shut the door.
"Goodnight everyone," Foggy said, and he too left.
Piotr insisted he check Felix's stitches again and Felix let him with a sigh.
"You all staying or going?" Matt asked.
"Leaving," Aslan, Dmitri, and Sergei all said. They left and said they'd be waiting for Piotr by the car.
"You," Piotr pointed a finger at Felix, "don't leave yet. Wait until Matt or Claire or I says it's fine."
"Fine dad," Felix said with a roll of his eyes.
"Vanya. Same goes for you."
"But-" Ivan whined.
"No but's. Tolya is going to stay here-"
"Uhh, since when?" Matt asked.
"Why do I have to play babysitter," Anatoly huffed.
"Because I said so and because the rest of you are hopeless at being responsible. Goodnight." He spun on his heels and left before any protests could be made.
Matt sighed in exasperation. "Let's go, I guess." Vladimir stood and followed him into his room.
Somehow Ivan ended up curled around Felix on one of two couches. Felix was horrified to realize Ivan was now at least as tall as him.
-
"Who knew members of the mafia could be so cuddly." Felix cracked an eye open and closed it when he saw it was Foggy.
 "I did," Matt said.
 "Shut up," Vladimir said weakly.
"I let him do it because he's warm and I'm cold," Felix mumbled.
The arm around Felix's waist tightened. "No," Ivan mumbled. "You love me."
 "Do I?"
 "Jerk."
 "Brat."
"You haven't shoved me off yet."
 "You're warm. I'm cold."
"Mhmm. Deny it all you want. But I know the ~truth~."
"He isn't wrong Lixa," Anatoly said.
Traitor," Felix grumbled. "What time is it?"
 "Noon."
"What!?" He sat off and Ivan fell off the couch with a yelp.
"Relax." Matt walked over and kneeled by the couch. "I should check the stitches."
Said stitches had not been pulled out or messed up since the night before and Matt happily released the Russians out onto the street. He said they could come back as long as they’d be quieter about playing and arguing.
Foggy said it wasn’t likely to happen. Anatoly sighed in agreement and apologized for the lot of them. Both came to the conclusion something similar was likely to happen in the future and they shouldn’t try to stop it.
Matt glared and told them to knock it off, and yes, he would kick them out, and do it gladly. It would be deserved so they couldn’t complain he said. Anatoly agreed with that as well.

"Vanya." Ivan looked up from his drawing. "Go up to your room. Just for a moment is all."
"Yes, Papa." Ivan ran up the stairs to his room. He cringed when his parent's yelling voices filtered into his room. The wood muffled their voices but he knew what they were arguing about. Or he had a rough idea. He heard his name and went to the vent to listen.
"- and what happens when they follow through with their threats? What'll happen to Vanya?"
"We'll figure something out. And they're just threats. If they want it they need us alive."
Ivan didn't know who the people his parents talked about were. He understood they were bad though, and that they threatened his parents. They sounded like bullies to his young mind.
It finally happened, five years later, when Ivan had just entered secondary school.
It was late, already dark outside. People came into their house, shouting. What happened next was blurred, hazy, seen in flashes.
Blood spreading across his parent's chests.
Thuds as their bodies hit the floor.
Bright flashes as the guns went off and they searched his house.
Ivan ran outside, sobbing. He stumbled through the bushes and fell to the ground when something hit his leg. The pain hit a second later. It reminded him of the time he accidentally touched a hot coal though this time the pain radiated from somewhere inside his leg.
Ivan stood, attempted to take a step and crumbled to the ground. He cried out and prayed the men didn't hear him.
Ivan woke up in a hospital. His parents were dead. He was alone with nowhere to go.
He ended up staying with a distant cousin's family whom he had almost forgotten.
He had to switch schools and move far from everyone, and everything, he knew.
It was just one more cut, one more bruise, on his already broken spirit. He couldn't sleep at night, flinching at meaningless, harmless, noises. When it got bad he would let silent tears fall and would wish with all his being that it didn't happen, that he could change it, that this was just a twisted dream his mind conjured while fever ravaged his body.
The bad men never came for him. At least he had that to be thankful for.
Ivan's cousins moved shortly after he turned thirteen. They wouldn't be taking him with them. If there was a reason he never heard it.
He ended back at the agency. There was no one for him, nowhere for him to go. He was sent to an orphanage where he was to stay until whatever would happen
 happened.
Ivan still jumped at loud noises and still woke up drenched in sweat and feeling his heart pounding, when he was told, a year later, that he had a foster family waiting for him in America.
Before leaving Ivan went to visit his parents. Behind him, he left flowers and a promise to return, someday.
---
It didn’t hurt as much as Ivan thought it would. He watched the ink sink beneath his skin. The Round Stone, coming to life. There was some irony to it, getting the mark of his parents killers on his wrist. He supposed that’s why he did it. They took his family, he would take this thing of theirs.
---
It had been a week. And he was starving. It had been so long since- He had only hoped the man hadn't noticed. If they found out later, if they were angry...
It wouldn't do good to anger them. Then again he had already survived the mob once. What was one more time?
---
Pain rang through Ivan's head and his vision went white. The blood was warm as it trickled down the side of his face. Still, he held his tongue. Ivan supposed he owed something to the brothers. They had saved him, in a way. Their offer kept him from living on the streets and scrapping for food.
---
Ivan never thought he’d be meeting Oliver Queen. He never expected the man to be a thief either. He had the captain’s star. Ivan wondered what the man had done to earn the position. And if the tattoo was fake? The brothers hated anyone who would fake their way to the top or would be bold enough to cheat them.
He saw the man in the black mask for the first time that night. The man had come, wondering what Oliver Queen wanted with him. He had leapt away before Ivan had the chance to say anything else to him, leaping over rooftops like he was flying. Maybe he was.
---
His own “brothers,” if they could have ever been called that, they definitely couldn't anymore, came for him. Pinning him, marking him. He thought he had been angry before but this was something else entirely.
---
The sky opened up and colossal creatures of metal tumbled from it. Green humanoid creatures followed. Ivan saw the man in the black mask the second time then. He was becoming something of a cryptid, in the darkened shadows of the streets. Ivan heard more hushed whispers then, wondering.
The world was something new then. Things were more dangerous. The dark alleys had darkened ever so slightly after that day. Ivan wasn’t looking forward to seeing what would become of it.

"Vanya," Felix grumbled, "stop following me and do your tasks."
"I am. I guess they're in the same direction."
"Uh huh." Felix looked over at Ivan's phone and narowed his eyes. "Why is your name red?"
"Oh Lixa," Ivan said sweetly, "you don't have your glasses on. You must have seen it wrong. Ivan twisted around and turned the screen away. Felix scowled.
"I found my contacts liar." Felix looked back down at his phone and his mouth dropped open as he watched Ivan kill him. it dropped lower when he watched Ivan report it.
"You see who did it?" Piotr asked.
"No. I just saw the long tongue thing impale him."
"That is not-"
"Shh." Ivan pressed a finger to his lips and Felix blinked and stared down at him.
"Quite pouting," Piotr chastised.
While the meeting was going on Anatoly, Felix, and Vladimir rages in the hat about the unfairness of it all.
"I'm sorry-"
"You all are very competitive about this aren't you," Matt said.
"These people are cheating," Vladimir whined, though he later profusely denied it. "Make them stop."
"I don't know. Foggy, should I?"
"Nah. It's pretty entertaining."
"I'll say," Karen said, and she lifted her drink in their direction.
"What the hell! Who killed me!?" Dmitri whipped his head around and scowled at the remaining players.
Piotr stared back nonchalantly. He pointed at Aslan.
"Rude," Dmitri growled at Aslan. "I thought we were supposed to be teammate's!"
"Well you better find yourself a team mate then spoil sport," Piotr said. He patted Vladimir on the shoulder. "You're losing your game Voldoya."
"I'll show you losing your game," Vlaidmri growled and he lunged at him.
"Hey! Enough of that! Not in the house!"
Vladimir sat back down almost sheepishly. "Sorry Motya."

Speak of the Devil AU as quotes from Coneheads
Felix: Yeah, my grandfather's from the ‘Old Country.’ Ivan: Oh really, which one? Felix: I'm not sure. One of the big ones.
---
Aslan (or any of the others working at the mechanic): How can it take so long to do a simple alignment on an American sedan with standard rack-and-pinion steering and MacPherson struts when your garage is equipped with the proper Borg-Warner digital hydraulic radiometer? Ivan: Maybe because I was out back finishing a beer.
---
Ivan, dealing with annoying customers (or Matt) (or Wade): Take my car, its reinforced alloy superstructure is far superior to that of your broken down, rusted-out shit box.
---
June: All men are pigs. Jennifer and Nya: Ah, pigs. An omnivorous domesticated cloven-hooved vertebrate that defecates in the same place it consumes. June: Exactly.
