itsthetalia rapidly becoming a Favorite Dev though

not just because brutal orchestra is an extremely well designed game but also because her smaller games are extremely interesting in a way a lot of other stuff in the genre of Weird Internet Video Game fails to be

something about the fact that the games sorta mess with the mechanics while messing with the narrative maybe

that might be it

a lot of those games are pretty barebones mechanically but itsthetalias games tend to have more effort on that front

heatstroke came out recently, by itsthetalia, the dev of brutal orchestra (and perfect vermin and swallow the sea and pit of babel, they’re all good go play em pit of babel is only on itch for some reason) and it’s a return to form

which is to say an extremely simple premise that will make you Think About It

however in this case it is explicitly designed to sort’ve be a pain in the ass to play

but it’s also only 2 dollars; I wondered why she was raising the prices on all her games but this one was still 2 dollars and I got it by the time I was through with it

it’s essentially a ���desert-bus-like” which is a phrase I can say now where you’re typing a short story while driving through a surreal desert landscape in a car with a broken steering wheel that drifts slightly to the right the entire time; if you go off the road you lose and have to restart

you also can’t pause for very long, there’s a timer of “pause time” that you can use up

the short story is very good and is sort’ve an existential horror/arguably a roko’s basilisk thing and it synchs up well with the idea of driving through an endlessly looping desert typing a short story in your car in that sort’ve sisyphean way but you’ve also got to type it out you can’t just read it

think itsthetalia said they were going to release the short story online without the game at some point so I will probably link that if it happens

heatstroke is obviously not a game I can reccomend to everyone because it’s just typing but itsthetalias other games are significantly more respectful of the player and I highly reccomend them if spending three hours typing a short story in a video game isn’t your bag
