"Charles"
"Yesterday will slowly fade away, so why not smile today one more time?"
I want to say;
"It's okay."
(awakening!Lars, lars x little painter, mild angst, 600+ words)
Lars breathes an internal sigh of relief as the last of the extraterrestrial creatures dissipate into the darkness. There are no more of them to be found, so he switches the mech back into neutral mode and leans back in his chair.
Breathe in, and breathe out.
The battle has taken a toll on his body, and he feels his mind strain against the psychological damage dealt to him.
"Assessing physiological stats, determining countermeasure..."
Her voice chimes through the mech and Lars smiles.
Tilting his head upwards, he sees the endless void of space. The sight of it makes him feel claustrophobic, and reminds him of the time he hid in a closet afraid of the monsters in the night. Back then, he had a toy lion someone gave to him on his birthday for company.
Now, he has an avatar resembling her to accompany him instead.
"Return route has been decided, initiating transportation..."
Lars feels the Paradise system take over his mind, making him feel drowsy. He hates it, but no matter how hard he tries to fight against it, his eyes flutter shut like a butterfly's wings.
"Please rest well, Captain."
The last thing he does is remind himself that person is not her.
Before, Lars would occasionally take her out on spontaneous trips to the beach at midnight. He'd prepare something new everytime; a blanket covered in lions, a portable disco ball, and pink potty for Beanie whenever he tagged along.
He almost lost his eyes for that, but it was worth it.
She would grumble most of the time, complaining while rubbing her eyes sleepily whenever he showed up at her doorstep. But she still went along with whatever he presented to her.
He once convinced her to lie on the sand with him to gaze at the stars, the both of them laughing together as the sand got into their hair. Not giving a damn even as they talked all night till the morning came at dawn.
She always stayed with him no matter what.
"So if she left me, she must have had a good reason right?"
Lars faces the Navigator looking up at him mutely. Even with her monotonous expression, he can still see the pity in her eyes.
...She resembles her too much. He thinks he might go insane.
The Navigator shakes her head.
"I cannot assume the reason for her departure, in case I am wrong. Even with the records I've looked through and the data you've provided me, it is difficult to determine if it was an abduction, or if she left of her own free will."
The both of them sit down on the boat as it flows through the canals on its own. He knows better, he knows that it's all fake and the pufferfish he sees swimming off at the distance could very well just be more extraterrestrials hiding, waiting to tear him apart.
He doesn't mind them for now, and takes his coin out of the lapels of his pocket. If he flips it and gets heads, it's an alien. Tails, it's not an alien. Maybe it could be her.
He flips once, heads.
He flips it twice, heads again.
He flips it for the third time but the boat suddenly jolts to the side out of nowhere and it falls into an odd sort of position. It sticks out between the seams of the wooden boards upright, being neither heads or tails.
"Forgive me Captain, but the return route has been recalculated to ensure your safety."
He doesn't hear the Navigator and stares at the coin stuck in the floor. Sighing, he picks the coin back up.
Lars wonders, today and tomorrow, how many more times must he flip the coin to see her again.
He misses her.

WEEKLY TAG WEDNESDAY
thank for for tagging me @mybrainismelted and the birthday gal @energievie
---
When is yours? August 23rd
Where were you born? The city of angels but we moved when I was a baby
How do you feel about your legal name? Are you using it online and/or IRL? Love it! I think it's so cute, but not a super common name and it's typically spelled with a "J" in the US and a "G" in the rest of the world (hence the nickname Gigi) and my name was stolen from an Aussie so my entire life it has been pronounced wrong by people reading it in the US which I don't love. I have a long running fantasy that someday I'll leave the US and go somewhere my name is always pronounced right.
How about your sign? Do you feel it "fits"? Yeah! I think all the typical virgo traits apply, and some leo since I'm a cusp. I would switch out the word perfectionist for pragmatist on all those lists, but that's just me
What's your earliest memory related to your birthday? I had a big fifth birthday party at the beach with the kids from my class and all my parents friends and their kids, there was a diy slip'n'slide and bbq and cake, and my dad set off fireworks he saved from 4th of july, very fun
What's one of the best gifts you've ever received? For my third birthday my mom's friend got me a teddy bear that I still have and adore and sleep with when I'm sad.
How about one of the best you've given yourself? I got myself a pair of nice gold hoops to replace the nasty tarnished 4$ ones I wear everyday
What's your favourite cake flavour? I love a classic birthday cake with rainbow sprinkles, but honestly I'm not a big cake person
How about your favourite flowers? I love roses and white lilies
Have your ever thrown a birthday party? If yes, tell us about your favourite one. When I was turning seventeen I threw a bonfire out in the woods that wound up being massive (the party not the fire) and I didn't know most of the people there by the time I left so that was weird but very fun! Now, I just stick to small parties on the roof of my friends building bc its summer in the city.
What's the ultimate birthday song? I'm going with Evie, I think it's true that hot girls cry on their birthday. So it's my party and I'll cry if I want to cry if I want to
And last but not least, pick a celebrity with whom you share your birthday. It's such a random collection of people, but I'll say Julien Casablancas in honor of all the guys I dated in college who had big fat crushes on him and wouldn't let me forget it

Washington, D.C., 1952. It's the night Dwight D. Eisenhower wins the presidential election in a landslide, a victory credited in part to demagogue Wisconsin senator Joseph McCarthy. Two men catch each other's eyes from across the celebration party. Hawkins Fuller (Magic Mike's Matt Bomer), a suit-and-tie-clad power player in politics, smirks at Tim Laughlin (Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey), a bespectacled and handsome newcomer on the scene.
There's a flash and now it's weeks later. The two lovers are in the throngs of an intoxicating torrid affair at the time of McCarthy's moral purge of homosexuals from government, the Lavender Scare. There's another flash and Hawk is taking a photo of Tim along the beach, years in the future. Another flash takes us back in time to a hallway on the Hill, where the two gents steal private glances.
This is how time works in Fellow Travelers, Bomer and Bailey's upcoming Showtime miniseries. So it's appropriate that the first teaser trailer, which EW exclusively debuts below, reflects that.
"They aren't flashbacks, really. We're putting the different time frames against each other," executive producer Ron Nyswaner, an Oscar nominee for writing 1993's Philadelphia, tells EW in an interview conducted before the Hollywood writers' strike. "It's about the choices that we make having ramifications that we don't see. It's very bad and we might not see them for 30 years, and they alter our lives in different ways. So you live with the choices that you make. Even though you try to avoid them, they usually show up somewhere."
Fellow Travelers is based on the novel of the same name by author Thomas Mallon, but while the book is what Nyswaner calls a "contained story about the '50s in Washington," the series is more ambitious in its scope.
Described as an epic love story entangled in a political thriller, the limited series tracks Hawk and Tim across four decades, through the Lavender Scare, the Vietnam War protests of the '60s, the disco scene of the '70s, and the AIDS crisis of the '80s.
The show also happens to be sexy as hell! Bomer and Bailey first got attention for these roles after paparazzi captured thirst-trap photos of their shirtless selves in character, splashing around on the Canadian beaches on the show's set. Neither those photos nor the first teaser come anywhere close to what audiences will see of their sexual chemistry.
Nyswaner worked on Ray Donovan and Homeland for Showtime during the 10 years he mulled making this new show, and he sees elements of both in Fellow Travelers.
In the character of Hawk, "There's a bit of a Ray Donovan, an unknowable person who doesn't seem to be able to love," he says. "And in Homeland, which is a thriller… we had a rule, which is if a scene doesn't push a story forward, then there's no reason it should exist." Nyswaner brought that rule to Fellow Travelers. Though, he admits, "It's really hard in our show to take scenes out." When you have Bailey and Bomer getting hot and heavy on screen together, we understand why.
Also starring Allison Williams, Jelani Alladin, and Noah Ricketts, Fellow Travelers will premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime this fall.

Beach day night!
istg I've been in a bad mood for so long I need some cheering up LMAO
the literal warmest day ever
you would think David would burst into flames
because of how many layers he's wearing
anyways
Michael is pretty sensitive to heat
he faints sometimes
this was one of those times
"WHAT THE FUCK" screeched Marko
thankfully David caught Michael before his head hit the hard floor
Paul was stoned outta his mind
but he was pretty confused as well
and Dwayne was..I dunno somewhere looking for ice
After Michael regained conciousness
they all decided that it would probably be a good idea to go to the beach
Obviously, they didn't go to the boardwalk
they just walked and found a nice spot
Paul packed some nice watermelons that he cut
Marko was already working on a sand castle with Laddie
while Michael and Star were
trying
to get David in the water
Dwayne was beach...reading?
It was a comic
Star was wearing a very colorful disco pattern one peice
and Dwayne had matching trunks
i mean the guys were all wearing trunks
and David just kept his shirt on lmao
even though Michael was a bit light headed
he taught Laddie how to float
while Star played marko polo with Marko, Dwayne and Paul
And David was enjoying the laughter from everyone
in the shallow end with his feet in the water
After a while they got tired and chilled in the sand
eating watermelons and popsicles
and the classic chips with bread sandwich combo
"Barbecue is the best flavor" Paul argued
"no it isn't its vinegar" Dwayne answered
cue the wrestling
friendly of course
Star is bad at charades
but she tried her best
to signify "mailman"
and then the sun rose
they quickly went back to the cave
dried off
got comfy clothes on
and watched Dirty Dancing
ITS NOT AS GOOD AS I WANTED IT TO BE WAAAAh

Louisiana by MURPHTHESURF
"But Pudding," you say, "why do I need another swamp world when I have Twinbrook?" To which I say, "Because this one is better."
It's an unpopulated 1024x1024 world, with about 60 total lots, fairly evenly split between residential and community lots. It has a lot of spawners, particularly rock/gem ones, but it has all of them except the Island Paradise and Into the Future ones. Despite the name of the world, I don't think it particularly looks like Louisiana, other than it has lots of water/wetlands. There are lots of fog emitters. You can almost smell the methane.
The lots are either EA lots (possibly edited; I'm not familiar enough with them to judge) or ones that the creator downloaded from other creators and then placed in the world. In particular, many of the lots were created by ruthless_kk, who creates very nice, very detailed, cc-free lots. The creator has meshed the lots together pretty well, so that the world feels cohesive even though the lots came from many different sources. And the scenery that the creator built is lovely.
The world has no CC. As far as I can tell, the Store content that it has is mostly in the lots created by ruthless_kk, and it's all just decorative stuff, so if you don't have it, it's probably not a big deal. Beyond that, I'm pretty sure it requires all EPs except Into the Future. It also needs the Town Life stuff pack because it uses the gym lot from that pack, so if you don't have that pack, that lot will have the wrong windows, and the equipment will be replaced with base game stuff, etc. If you don't have that pack and don't want to fix the lot, you could just plunk down a different gym instead.
There's more pics and info behind the cut, but first: As usual, the title of this post is a link to the world's incredibly useless Exchange page. If you'd rather not deal with the Exchange/the launcher/sims3packs, I have upload a .world file here. If you download the .world file it goes in your game install files under GameData - Shared - NonPackaged - Worlds.
First up, some Edit Town/map view pics of the world. Each set shows roughly half of the world.
Basically, one half is the more "urban" part and the other half is more rural. So, you can have your sim live in one of the Late Night apartments in the city part. Or they can live in a nice little farm like this one...
...which is set up as a winery. Or they can live in lovely Victorian/Second Empire house like the one in the pic above the cut, of which there are several in the world. Or they can live in...
...a swamp shack, complete with its own dumpster and a bayou "beach" in the back. Or they can live in...
...an ultra-modern place? Yeah, there are two such lots and while they are very nice lots, I don't think they fit in all that well. If I was playing the world I'd replace them. But, if you like ultra-modern houses, there you are.
The world doesn't have an abundance of houses, but the houses that it has are all fully furnished and ready to go, and there are definitely enough of them to get you started. There are a number of empty lots, particularly in two areas of the world that are somewhat unfinished. There are also areas where it would be easy to add new lots. All of which you might want to do because the world has only two lots that are starter-priced, and the swamp shack above is not one of them. The lot on the right side of this pic is one of them:
So, if you aren't as liberal with the free real estate cheat as I am, you might need more starter lots. But if you are liberal with free real estate, here are a few more of your options:
And here are a few non-EA community lots:
This is a dive bar with a junkyard theme, complete with junk piles in back. (There is an actual junkyard, too.) It has a professional bar, seating, and shuffleboard. Other entertainment in the world includes a a disco, a fusion lounge, and a dance club. It does have the "event center" from Showtime but no other Showtime venues, so those would need to be added if you want to play the Showtime careers.
This is a nectary, though it's designated as a small park. It has all the grape plants, a little place for weddings, nectar sales, a nectar-making machine, and a "restaurant" with a food register and a buffet table. I'm pretty sure this lot is placed backwards, though, because the back of it faces the road. I don't know if this was done deliberately, but I think it would look better flipped around.
This is a little comic shop, in a more unfinished section of the city part of the world. It has the science objects from University Life on the top floor.
Other community lots in the world are:
Festival (the Sunset Valley one)
A Chinese garden
A fire station
A gym
A consignment shop
A small resort
A salon
Several parks/fishing spots, including the butterfly dome from Bridgeport
So, there are some common lot types missing -- a beach, a library, a public pool, etc. -- but since there are a good number of empty lots in the world, these could be added, whether you build them yourself or plop down EA or downloaded ones.
Overall, this is a nice world. Parts of it are unfinished with some empty lots placed but not much else. There are some lots that have community designations but are empty. (For instance, there's a lot designated as a public pool, but it's empty.) But the scenery is quite beautiful, and if you need a smallish, ready-to-play world, this might be one for you, especially if you happen to like Victorian-style houses.
We'll finish off with some more scenery pics, because it's a pretty world.

13/8/24 [5x DIYS today + one package!! // key + significant photos at end.]
woke up at 10 and immediately went outside to see boris. [before taking ages to get out of bed, that is.] he was really excited to see me this morning and layed down on my shoes. i stayed outside with him for at least 30 minutes before i started getting paranoid my prevision would show up. once i got inside i got dressed into my silent hill shirt, dark cargo jorts, and various bracelets consisting of a spiked cuff, my chemical romance/sleeping with sirens/pierce the veil/panic! at the disco band bracelets, and a wooden beaded bracelet. all of which being in the colour scheme of black, white, and dark green. i love matching my outfits.
once i was done getting ready, i made a ‘key’ for my journals and added it to my intro, and started writing this. at 11:10 my dad came into my room and told me that my prevision isn’t even coming round so that’s sort of a relief. with that, i went back outside with boris for about 10 minutes until my eyesight started going weird and i could only see yellow because of how sunny it was on the driveway. upon getting inside, i had a cup of tea and asked my dad to help me out with the start of my can tab bracelet as i’m useless at following youtube tutorials.
he did the first bit of pattern until i caught up onto it and then started doing it myself. like i’ve mentioned before, i know i dont have enough tabs so it ended up being a little off the length around my wrist. which is annoying because i’m so close to it fitting but i sent my aunt a picture of my progress so she remembers to keep on collecting can tabs for me lmaoo 😭 anyway, im glad i’ve finally gotten around to doing something with tabs apart from making smaller jewellery/making diy pins as i’ve been thinking about making a bracelet for years now. i always end up collecting my own and then losing the stash. however that trinket box i made has been helping me keep track without them going anywhere and everywhere. [photos at end.]
i did what i could with the bracelet and finished at 12:20. after writing about it, i decided on starting to add the key to the end of every one of my journals. hopefully it’ll make it easier for people to understand what on earth i speak about. i went upstairs to my sisters room at 1:25 and watched her play fnaf security beach again. she got stuck with what the task was pretty quickly, so i decided to just listen while looking up every now and then and make a collage in my journal. i made one out of the leaflets from the premier inn we stayed in + the car park recipts. after finishing, i decided to make another with various other receipts from the weekend [like the receipt from my green day cd]. [photos at end] my sister got up to the part of the game where you need to find a head and use a party pass or something.
i don’t really like the second collage i made, or either of them actually, but its whatever. i stayed watching her game until 2:30 when i went outside with boris. at some point, someone pulled up on our driveway. usually when people do that, they’re looking for an assisted living home just down the road — for some reason the addresses always get messed up. but, he handed me a package. i’m just glad i wasn’t in my pyjamas. on his way back to the car, boris came up to him and he stroked him which was sweet. i called my mum to ask if the package was hers or mine and she told me to open it anyways.
it sort of felt like some kind of plushie though the packaging, but when i opened it up it was just something wrapped up very thoroughly. i ripped open the bubble wrap and saw my black parade gerard way funko pop!!! i was getting worried because technically only one of my packages from depop had come so i was relieved to receive him. i took a picture of him and then set him up beside my concert tickets because that’s where i put all of my important things. i will display him on my desk’s shelf at one point but it’s too messy at the moment and i don’t want him to get scratched or anyting along those lines.
i went back up to my sister after fussing boris outside at 2:40. i thought i was going upstairs to watch her play more five nights at freddy’s but she started showing me horror-ish game trailers. she made me pick out one for her to buy so i can watch her play it. she knows i already really want to watch her play fnaf4 so that was sort of out of the question. i couldn’t choose between this low graphic game with barely any plays or bendy and the ink machine. after somewhat picking, i went downstairs as my parents came back from an appointment/the town centre. i showed them my gerard figurine and they were shocked by the size of him loll
my dad reused the packaging from my gerard funko pop to package a few cds he was selling so me, him and my mum walked down to the post office through the woods. i only really wanted to go to get my steps up but i quickly regretting it concidered today was the day after the hottest day of the year. we snuck round the back garden door just incase boris followed us from the driveway. upon getting there, i picked out some low cal treats for myself and got my sister some sweets. on the way back home, i decided to walk back by myself the road way because i was sure it’d be quicker and less exhausting as the woods is all up and down. me and my parents split up and i got home 6 minutes before them.
once i got back i gave my sister her sweets and sat outside with boris. my vision started going weird again so i had something to drink and sat in my room for a while until my sister came down to call me up to watch her play bendy and the ink machine. i went up and watched while playing mcr + the used cover of under pressure, two songs off mcr live in valencia [nanana and vampire money] before she told me to turn it off as she doesn’t like mcr. because she’s stinky. her favourite song out of the music i listen to right now is all my life by falling in reverse so i played that and we both sang along to it. she’s starting to learn it off by heart now.
i went back down into my room at 6:30 and wrote more of this journal. i continued doing so up until 7:30 when i copied all of the journals i’ve written so far into my notes app just incase i get logged out of this or something. afterwards i posted asking whoever’s reading this right now to let me know who does/does not want to be tagged when i post [PLEASE LIKE/COMMENT EITHER ON THAT POST OR HERE SO I KNOW!!] and went outside with boris for just a minute to say hi. i didn’t plan on going in immediately but it was really cold and he opened the door himself and went inside. i fed him and then went to living room as my dad had made me a cup of tea. i sorted through a few kandi/bead inspiration photos.
then my mum and sister came back from my sister’s karate lesson. i started asking my mum about what i did yesterday as i hadn’t written anything about it until tonight. she didn’t know much as she was out for the first half of the day so i went outside in the garden to my dads shed and asked him about my day instead. i took notes and then went through them with my mum. after everything was somewhat confirmed i went into my room, put on my green day cd and wrote about yesterday.
at 9:23 i decided to make this star out of bendy wire and tiny beads. i made it in the colours of the gay flag, because that’s my flag, but mainly because i love that colour scheme. i unironically put it everywhere/generally make everything in those colours. i finished at 9:45. afterwards i got out a bottlecap and a few beads i cut off thrifted jewellery from my shed outside. i couldn’t make a hole through it so i went out to my dads hut and asked if he could. he said that he can tomorrow with his drill and also do my shells for the windcharm i’ve been planning to make. i went to check on boris and then i made a gecko out of kandi at 10. i was supposed to make his eyes black but the only black beads i have didn’t fit through the elastic i use. i’m not ecstatic over how he came out, but i don’t hate it as much as my first animal kandi attempt. [photos of diy’s at end, warning their both very funky looking.]
my cd ended at around 10:50. i’ve listened to the album before but i’ve never tracked what my favourite song off it is. id say based off listening to it today, ‘jesus of suburbia’ is my #1. i went upstairs to my parents at 11, wrote a bit of this journal, checked if boris wanted to come back inside, and actually finished asking my questions at 12. i let boris in and my mum and sister got into a huge argument afterwards so i went into the kitchen with him and shut the door to drain some of the noise out. i spoke to him for a while until he started scratching on the dishwasher which means he wants to go outside. i let him out at around 12:20 and kept on going to check if he wanted to come back inside. i checked again at 12:50 and got jumpscared by my dad trying to toast a bagel.
i continued checking while sorting through giphy to find more interest related gifs in advance for future journals up until 1 when boris came back inside. he had something to eat, came into my room, and i said goodnight to him at around the same time he came in, and finished at 2. while talking to him i showed him all of the crafts i’ve done today + my gerard funko pop. i like updating him on what i do throughout the day when i’m not with him. i went to sleep at 2:50 after figuring out the first/last name for my killjoy oc [i haven’t decided whether it’s going to be first or last name because i don’t have two yet.]
🗝️ — boris/my cat, prevision/keyworker i have to see instead of being taken back into mainstream education

a dive into august moon's (tiny) discography 🌙🩷
From what we know about August Moon, the fictional boy band from The Idea of You, they are meant to be a conglomerate of a bunch of different boy bands and artists – an ode, a homage, to this era of music, if you will. Obviously, by looking at the members themselves, you can draw similarities between certain members of - ahem - another well-known boy band, but this post isn’t about them. This is about the music because I’m insane and I have Thoughts I’d like to share.
Taste: After my very first listen of Taste, I immediately noticed the inspiration drawn from modern K-Pop, specifically BTS (and from interviews, Nick has mentioned they looked to BTS to help build August Moon’s dynamic). Sonically, Taste has a similar beat, tone, and structure to BTS’ Butter. All we’re missing really is a bar or two from their Rap line, which is unfortunate that they don’t have one. Taste is the most upbeat out of the five August Moon songs we get and relies heavily on electronic dance and disco elements that is reminiscent of K-pop music production. But also, after sending this song to a friend, it reminded her of Jonas Brothers and DNCE, which is not entirely far off, too.
Dance Before We Walk: This is the first song that introduced us to August Moon, and I think this was a good choice for a debut single. It brings elements of electronic dance and rock that is very One Direction-esque. However, it still brings something fresh, new, and unique, which is what they needed to really sell August Moon as a boy band, even if they’re not technically a real one. But they’re still real in my heart. Hayes has bewitched me.
Closer: The one thing that stands out to me about this song - besides that first line of the chorus (you know the one) - is the driving bass line that carries the heart of the song. If you know me, you’d know how much I appreciate a good bass. No other August Moon song has the bass turned up so loudly that it holds a melody of its own, and because of this, Closer, I think, is a modern take on 1960s boy bands like the Beatles or the Beach Boys. Paul McCartney of the Beatles prided himself on a melodic bass line, and Closer, to me, pays homage to that.
I Got You: When Nick said this was his favorite because it’s so cliche, I didn’t believe him, but after I listened to it, it is very much the most cliche song I’ve ever heard. This is what I imagine to be August Moon's One Less Lonely Girl, where they bring a girl from the audience and serenade them, or their Little Things because boy bands sure do love pointing out a girl’s insecurities and saying how much they love her despite them. It’s so cliche that it also reminds me of Big Time Rush more than anything (Cover Girl, anyone?), and I feel like this is the most accurate comparison I could come up with.
Guard Down: Sorry, but this is the most One Direction song that ever One Directioned. This song could have been from Take Me Home, and I wouldn’t have known the difference. I feel like what sets this one apart from the other songs is that it relies heavily on the rock/pop elements that are obviously a nod to One Direction, especially in their Take Me Home era. This is probably why I love this song so much because it reminds me of a time when life was so simple. I was just a girl in high school listening to Rock Me and just giggling about these five boys from the UK.
[BONUS] Go Rogue: There is no doubt that Hayes’ performance of Go Rogue on the Graham Norton Show is a direct comparison to Harry who was just beginning his solo career. Go Rogue is very reminiscent of Harry’s debut self-titled album (From the Dining Table, Sweet Creature, etc.). The song itself is very pared down compared to August Moon’s songs. Very minimal production - just a voice, guitar, and piano - which isn’t dissimilar to what Harry’s self-titled album is like. There is a layer of yearning that is also borrowed from Harry’s lyrics and sound, and I think it is a beautiful homage to the passage of time and to Harry himself.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk <3
#the idea of you#august moon#ALSO please feel free to share your own thoughts with me#music is so interesting to me#not me actually using tumblr as it was intended by posting a blog

Two teens get transported to their favorite movie, "Wet Side Story". They have to make the movie's plot progress the way it should in order to go back home, but they end up getting caught in romantic entanglements with the main cast.
it's very silly and fun!!
PRINCE OF CATS is the B side to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, played at an eighties block party in an NY where underground sword dueling blossomed alongside hip-hop, punk, disco, and no wave. It's the story of the minor players with Tybalt at the center.
ITS SO GOOD IM OBSESSED WITH IT first of all the art is gorgeous, literally every page is bursting with color and really active/immersive panels. basically anytime I’m drawing an action (comic) scene, I reference this book for how to do it. besides this, it’s one of my favorite adaptations of Romeo and Juliet because of how it interacts with the text. I was vehemently opposed to changing the plot or characters in R&J adaptations before this (because to be fair. it gets so annoying) BUT!!!! this book showed me it can be done well. it feels like it was made in conversation with the original text, playing on Tybalt’s widely-known death as him being “doomed by the narrative” (oooh Tumblr buzzword vote for this book please) to show how the Montague/Capulet kids are trapped in a similarly destructive and deadly system, which in turn represents the cycles of violence a lot of (especially black, as Tybalt’s story focuses on) teenagers are forced into. Also, unlike a lot of R&J adaptations, it feels like it was made with soooooo much passion instead of just because they knew it would sell. (I looked it up and it turns out it was a long-term passion project of the author!! so I suppose I was right) ALSO!!!!!!! ITS WRITTEN ENTIRELY IN ELIZABETHAN ENGLISH AND LARGELY IN IAMBIC PENTAMETER???? AND REALLY WELL???? WHILE ALSO INTEGRATING MODERN AND 80’S SLANG ???? I don’t know if this was coherent and I’m SURE I didn’t do this gorgeous gorgeous book justice but I would recommend that everybody ever reads it. and then votes for it in this poll. it is soooo good
#its taking me embarrassingly long to get all the round 1 polls going lol#prince of cats#teen beach movie#prince of cats looks so sick I have it on hold at my local library now#tho vis a vis the propaganda a lot of adaptations in this bracket are passion projects which is fun#tournament

Hey :)
I like your playlists and I found lots of new songs that way. Would you mind posting your spotify wrapped? I'm curious 👀
This just... made my year??? Omg thank you???!
Ok plot twist I don't actually use spotify 😅 I must be the only person on planet earth that switched back to an iPhone so I could use my iTunes again... but yeah I don't use a streaming service, but I do have my most played for the year! I uploaded it here - its on my instagram as a highlight reel!
For people who don't / can't access gram:
Most Played Songs by Month:
January: Mob by Eve
Shockingly my only Eve song for the year?? Last year I had like 3. Fight Song by Eve, one the CSM EDs, was my second most played Eve song but wasn't quite in my January Top 10
February: Shiki no Real by Chanceデラソウル
Suuuper groovy future funk remix of Shiki no Uta, the Samurai Champloo ED and one of my all time favorite/most played songs in my life lol
March: You Know How We Do It by Ice Cube
I go through a huge Dr. Dre/Ice Cube/Snoop phase every year and I'm not embarrassed to say it lol (also yes these are color coded by seasons bc my iTunes top playlists are separated by seasons idk why and yes that I am embarrassed about)
April: When Your Ex Says He Wants You Back by LTB Remix
I have no idea what the real name of this remix is?? I know it's a remix of When Your Ex Says He Wants You Back by Surface, but idk which one. On a related note no idea how I managed to get a full version, the only one I've found online is this version at the very beginning of this big mix
May: Deep Down by Neverdull
I will never pass up a song that samples Crystal Water's Gypsy Woman, and I am also a massive fan of everything Neverdull has put out, so it was no surprise this was my most played song when I discovered it and was in the Top 10 for several months after
June: Blame Brett by The Beaches
Omg man did I get obsessed with this band after this song. Also a huge fan of their other single Me & Me.
July: Disco by Surf Curse
I don't dislike Surf Curse but I don't listen to much else from them but this song, that always ends up on my Top 10 lists during summer. idk what it is but it's such a great beachy vibe for me. I genuinely cannot go to the beach without listening to it several times
August: Slingshot by Good Kid
Good Kid is actually my top artist of the year, and I'm thrilled to see it. It's really rare that I like so many songs off of a band's discography, and I think I have every single one of theirs. Also in my Top 10 for August was Alchemist, Osmosis, Tell me You Know, and No Time to Explain from them.
September: Honey by ID Chief
My favorite kind of future funk is when the original song isn't so spliced you can barely hear it, but there's still enough remix involved to really modernize the disco.
October: North Wind by Six Lounge
Shockingly enough I didn't actually listen to Ao no Sumika - arguably 'The' J-rock song of 2023 - very much even though I like that song a lot. I think I just can't handle my own feels, and tbh, as far as J-rock for this year goes I liked this ED from MHA more? I think the hook is just a little smoother and catchier imo.
November: From the Start by Good Kid
While I also love the bossa nova vibes of the original Laufey version, this cover is soooo freaking good. It definitely has summer anime OP vibes and there's actually an AMV using the first JJK S2 opening that gives me so many feels.
December: Standing Next to You by Jungkook
Ooof ok I'll come clean here I used to love k-pop back in 2014 and kind of got sick of the genre after EXO and F(x) broke up and was never into BTS or any of the new K-pop acts. But man this song slaps. I'm obviously a disco fan and there's some major disco grooves in this song

Corona's job is beach
When I was reading the case, I very quickly formed mental images of what each brand represented.
For Corona, I thought of the quote from the movie Barbie of Ken saying "my job is beach" because the Corona brand represented something fun, lighthearted, youthful, and relaxing to consumers. Its ads had a tagline "Sun, Fun, Beach" which conveyed to the audience that it was a light and affordable beer for people to have in their leisure time. Their initial efforts in the US also targeted younger crowds in cities that bordered Mexico and emphasized in-person promotions at restaurants, bars and discos, which worked well in attracting university students. Another distinguishing feature of the brand was the "corona and lime" trend that customers started doing, contributing further to the imagery of social gatherings and leisure activities.
On the other hand, when I thought of Heineken, I thought of a rich old man sitting on a couch because their brand was viewed as a premium beer with a strong heritage and quality. The case mentioned the beer carried an image of sophistication and status, with ads showing plain black backgrounds and just the beer. The brand's consistent messaging to consumers was that Heineken made good quality beer that stood on its own. This type of messaging would likely appeal to older and wealthy consumers which was appropriate for the higher price the brand charged as well. However, the brand also carried a perception of arrogance, which stemmed from ad campaigns that said "just being the best is enough." After realizing this, Heineken attempted to reshape how customers thought by creating ads that put less emphasis on quality and status and more emphasis on humor, but I wonder if these attempts came too late.

20th Anniversary
Ayumi Hamasaki: No way to say (2003.11.06)
Japanese pop music is rich in seasonal songs: when spring rolls around, artists clamor to release their best new-beginnings tracks, like, say, Perfume's "ONE ROOM DISCO," a song about kids moving all their junk into tiny dorm rooms when the new school year starts. In the summer, everyone jumps into swimsuits and drops their best upbeat, high-energy, beach-weather jams, like Kumi Koda's "LALALALALA." And when the temperature drops, bringing cooler, crisp air, and the snow begins to fall, the inevitable deluge of ballads begins.
As the reigning J-pop queen of her time, Ayumi Hamasaki is no stranger to the practice, and released several of her own seasonal-appropriate hits, including a number of ballads and slower-tempo tracks in the wintertime, like "M," "Voyage," "CAROLS," "HEAVEN," and one of the first to be so obviously geared to the season, 2003's "No way to say." The single was composed by BOUNCEBACK, one of the songwriting teams Ayu had newly enlisted for many of the tracks off of the eventual Memorial address EP, and features soft acoustic guitars that crescendo into a nice, classic Ayu synth-ballad, similar to many of her slower songs released around the same time period, like those off of 2004's MY STORY. It's a really pretty song and has remained very likable despite its PV that features a creepy Santa Claus head.
The rest of the tracks, in keeping with the winter-ballad theme, feature acoustic, or "acoustic orchestra" versions of songs, except for one. Notably, we get one for the title track, and ones for the ballads "SEASONS," "Dearest," and "Voyage." Unfortunately, for one of the few times in Ayu's career, we get re-released tracks that had appeared previously on other albums, with the acoustic version of "SEASONS" being from 2001's ayu-mi-x III Acoustic Orchestra Version, and "Dearest" from 2002's ayu-mi-x 4 + selection Acoustic Orchestra. I can't imagine if you weren't already a huge fan of Ayu's acoustic orchestra line (or huge fan in general) that you wouldn't already own those albums, so re-hashing them is a definite missed opportunity that opts for empty filler. I can't remember if the "Voyage" one is also a re-hash, though I know it was later worked into a different acoustic version that can be found on 2013's A CLASSICAL, along with new versions of the other two. Finally, there is a rather forgettable house remix of "No way to say" to close things out. Ballads are notoriously rough territory for club remixes, and this one doesn't fare any better than the rest. Overall, this an A+ title track that's marred with some rather forgettable coupling tracks, and suffers from one of the cheapest tricks in the book by including old material.
Still, one thing to note is how great Ayu's voice still sounds at this stage. It doesn't surprise me that we don't get too much in the way of these stripped down, acoustic compilations as much anymore, since Ayu's voice doesn't sound as good as it once did, with her clean timbre and more restrained delivery. Finally, this includes the instrumental version of "No way to say," which is predictably terrific.
This is a very sweet, very classic Ayu ballad, one that she has performed dozens of times live for a good reason, usually in a cosmically large ballgown, and it does a good job of representing this period of her career. Ayu has released many winter, or winter-adjacent, ballads over the course of her legendary career, and this one still stands as one of the most well-known and beloved.

mbav (season 1) hungarian dub notes
i know that translational changes are necessary for things to make sense in another language, but i'll take minor tweaks as something worth sharing. this is just for fun !!
the title is translated to our vampire, the babysitter <3
three cheers for evil
erica: “these girls have been telling me to bite them for years" → "these girls have been telling me to suck it for years" like the vulgar expression to suck a dick. ok
ethan straight up refers to his underwear in cheer uniform as thongs. off to a strong start
blood drive
ethan (to sarah): “take two [cookies]” → “you can take mine too” its so cute. however he grumbles instead of saying “come on” when leading her out of the room
b: “to bore them to death?” → “to make them laugh at us [in a ridiculing way]?” honestly makes sense idk why a vampire nurse story would bore anyone to death
guys and dolls
when ethan’s parents go upstairs u can overhear rory talking to debbie dazzle and originally u can’t hear much of what he’s saying just giggling & something about making out. you hear this clear dialogue in hungarian: “so when i eat like a pig, i gag this much while brushing my teeth. so i prefer chewing gum instead. if you want to make out, i can chew one right now” right before they show him saying he knows where the best gum in town is
at the disco beach party for jane when debbie winks, originally there’s no more dialogue, but in hungarian ethan says “this is so cool!” :)))))))))))
double negative
in the og evil!hannah says “how about i say this? you’re a pathetic little weasel!” in the translation she says something non-hungarian??? like it’s not in my language idk wth it means i posted the audio when i tried figuring it out with scripts and numerous google searches but couldn't detect it
instead of evil benny they keep saying bitchy benny dshdfgsdhfwehsdjf
friday night frights
coach ed calls benny a truncate dwarf instead of sugar mcversey
smells like trouble
after ross catches bethan roleplaying as etharah instead of saying they should come along to the hockey game he says the two should go in a pair
b (about the concept of sarah rejecting ethan): “gives u one less thing to worry about” to “gives u one more fear” help
ethan says “i chickened out” (about asking sarah out) in a high-pitched voice like he’s making fun of himself ?????
originally benny says nothing after his grandma leaves and bids them good night but they add him saying “that’s tough” cuz he opens his mouth slightly so they felt the need to add something? lol
die pod
e: “i wonder if my allergies will kill me before the sun stroke does” b: “my money’s on the sun, you burn like a marshmallow” → “my money’s on the sun, you’re burning already” as in to be very embarrassing
b (after telling pod girl his bowling story): “you know, i think you’re really interesting” → “you know, i personally think this was a very exciting story” girl…
b (ethan tells him to shut up with his stupid gardening motto): “that’s all i got” → “i’ll shut the hell up”
doug the vamp hunter
(about erica making fun of evelyn’s blood substitute) sarah: “i guess she’s used to packing nerd lunches” → “i guess she’s used to packing lunches for babies/diaper wearers”
erica: “serious mullet fail” → “seriously sprained/damned taste”
r: “good thing you’re bad at magic” → “good thing you’re a lame witch [very feminine term]”
the brewed
instead of teethan they called him tetün which is basically louse + ethan… and yea he says it sounds cute coming from sarah 😭
this just made me giggle but since they have to lower original sounds when dubbing something, they sometimes add their own effects. the only added sound i detected was them adding a loud door handle sound when a zombie opens a door with a knob. and the sound is late
revamped
jesse: "my favorite fledgling" → "my dearest little rookie" there's a translation for fledgling throughout the show so idk why he'd say this

Im gonna ramble in your inbox for a bit lmao, I have a few ideas!
What about music themed?? Like music notes, treble clef, etc (idk a lot about musical notation honestly but ik theres a lot of symbols). My next thought was instruments but usually those are super detailed, like string and brass? A Harp?? The simplest i can think is like, some piano keys would make a cute design, or maybe just the headstock of a guitar! God, brass instruments would be so intense to make, i just looked at a saxaphone and I'm freaking out thinking of the detail and how impressive that would be. Or maybe physical media like a vinyl record or a little cassette tape? A little boombox, record player, or radio?
Going off of that, I think people really like decade themed/nostalgic stuff. I love 70s things personally so i may just be projecting, but i think 80s and 90s vibes are super popular! You could look at toys, technology, icons, and popular colors of an era, things like that and that might be inspiring!
Also thinking about summer themed designs since summer is coming up! Seasonal stuff is so cute and I notice people are always looking for little seasonal projects! Surfboards, beach umbrella, a fruity lil drink, are things that come to mind for me!
The more i write the more ideas i think of but this ask is already huge lmaooo so ill leave with these and hopefully its not overwhelming
First of all I will not be out-rambled in my own house lets gooo
These are all so good and sensible and fun! Thank you so much! I spent a day and a half sketching out just some of them (and going off an a few tangents), and there are a few already that I can't wait to actually pattern up and make <3
Musical instruments and notation are both perfect and super hard for the format. They're so detailed, like you said, and their design is so specific; it's hard to know what can be fudged or elided without getting the whole thing irredeemably wrong. (I've had the same problem with birds and arthropods). Like, how many of the saxophone's fourteen-hundred eldritch appendages *do* I need to show? I could include them all, and the motif would be the size of a bedspread and take a month and a half to crochet, and I perversely want to do that now so thanks also for that.
Even in that keyboard motif (which, you'll have to trust me, is a very good likeness of Casio keyboard whose demo song was the soundtrack to my early childhood) is already over twice width of my largest typical designs, and it would have to be twice as big still for me to space the keys accurately.
Decades are a great organizing conceit! They lend themselves to a kind of idiosyncratic hodgepodge that really appeals to me, and "random collection of old things that you remember" is a trope people don't seem to ever get sick of—and new things are getting old every day. They're also a way to ease into pop culture references, which I haven't really done, and which might offset some of my Debbie-Downer tendencies (when you suggested "70s things" my actual first thought was "what do quaaludes even look like?" My first idea for the 80s was "Margaret Thatcher demolishing a council house," and my thought process for the 90s went "Monica Lewinsky's dress, OJ Simpson's gloves, Tonya Harding's crowbar… NAFTA?" Terrible patches, all. What people want as a little picture of a sofa at a jaunty angle with a caption that says "PIVOT!").
Anyway. I'm especially excited to try the disco ball, the record and the off-brand Tamagotchi (I preferred Gigapets, personally). Those all have double-length diagonals that I've freehanded a few times and know to work at least okay, but which I haven't figured out how to notate. Oh! and I haven't got a beach umbrella that I like just yet, but the hurricane cocktail seems like a good way to kick off a summer collection—as long as I don't follow it up with, like a graph of yearly average temperatures, which is something I would absolutely do.

me after you finally clear out the spam we put in your inbox: wow I should send more asks. obviously. anyway I vaguely remember you mentioning the potential of a tsp sskk playlist at some point I have gotta know some of the songs you would put on that cause frankly I'm not getting enough emotional damage already from overthrowing the skk one
i love having you guys in my inbox. but i am starting to wonder if you guys are in the anti-sleep chamber again.
A lot of the songs i'd put on the tsp!sskk playlist would be transplanted from the Red Camellia playlist ( they're on there for now because they have no home to go to ) but here are some i've been thinking of putting on it, and what they'd represent/reference:
Disturbia - I mean, 'It can creep up inside you and consume you/a disease of the mind it can control you' it's also covered by The Cab ( one of my favorite bands ever ) who've got that early 2000s pop/punk DOWN, though I'm not opposed to the original
New Americana - 'The City's ours until the fall' and the collapsing-dynasty vibe to it all . . . yeah.
God Save Our Young Blood - as I mentioned in that other ask ( me and my big mouth . . . ) if Infatuation is Soukoku's driving-down-highway 1 song, this is shin-soukoku's
Cheri Cheri Lady belongs on both playlists because it was the song I've had in mind since January as the one that would play while shin-soukoku are at Tycheron.
Electric Love is also very shin-soukoku. They've got their whole lives ahead of them so I won't shy away from putting fluffier things on their playlist
Stayin' Alive - obviously.
California Soul by Marlena Shaw
Aint no Love in the Heart of the City by Bobby Bland
I would put September just to be funny ( since Shin Soukoku are currently having the absolute worst September of their lives ) but it's also such a good song i imagine if TSP had a funny bloopers-reel end credits it would play then.
The Chain by Fleetwood Mac. I would be a fake fan if I did not put at least one song from Rumors on a tsp playlist ( and I was tempted to put Go Your Own Way but it just didn't fit . . . ) I'd also put Dreams for shin-soukoku beach dates.
DONNA SUMMER. QUEEN OF DISCO. Hot Stuff fits on the playlist better but I Feel Love is SO disco and listening to it makes me feel like my heart is in my head its so comfortably disorienting
Get Down On It by Kool & The Gang
this one is so out of place but The Fighter by Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood. I just like that song.
Lastly, Endlessly by The Cab. For that life Shin-soukoku have ahead of them.
