I've finally completed my second long, multi-chapter Tron fanfiction, and I think it's an improvement over my first attempt. This time it's a crossover with another of my favorite franchises. I was considering giving it a fancier title, but in the end I thought it was appropriate that it should have a name similar to the classic(?) crossover comics of the 90s:

It is, of course, a horror story, with all the frightful things that can happen when an Xenomorph is involved. I have tried to put all the necessary warnings in the tags over on AO3, but if there's something I've missed, I'd be happy to add it. I'm afraid that the story inevitably involves the deaths of some fan favorite characters. I can't lie about their chances, but... they do have my sympathies.

the situation was far from favorable. with the building on lockdown, no one could get in or out for another... couple of hours. still trapped with the beast that had breached containment in the labs. rufus had had a feeling that those lockdown features would be problematic, he had just hoped HE would not be the one to deal with the consequences of his father's... questionable decision making. still, someone looked for a way to bypass the protocols. it wasn't going well. rufus briefly contemplates if his father had gone on that vacation on purpose. it's irrational, but he can't help but wonder. surely reginald knew the creature that was locked in the labs.

in the room that now served as the makeshift command center, rufus leaned against a desk with his arms crossed over his chest. at the very least, the creature had a tracker and they could work with the actual science division to track the beast throughout the building. while it was currently locked in a corridor, rufus had a feeling it wouldn't last. amongst the confusion, he speaks up.

@faeymouse wondered if viruses would be like vampires or zombies in the Tron universe. My take is that since computer viruses replicate themselves by inserting their code into other "host programs", it would be funny/scary if they were basically xenomorphs.

I liked the part with the milk.

Simultaneously a magnificent piece of science fiction and a wonderfully tense work of horror. So many individual elements of Alien are perfectly crafted and delivered, that it's no wonder it's so highly regarded.

From the mysterious title card through to the iconic, climactic ending, Alien steadily builds tension with deliberate pacing, magnificent score, excellent set design and miniatures, and sound design so fucking good it elevates everything else. 

Perhaps the most memorable aspect of the movie for me is the cassette futurism aesthetic. Everything constantly clicks and whirs, and hundreds of buttons flash over every control panel, perfectly contrasting with the more organic design of the alien elements, as well as the mechanical bowels of the Nostromo that later conceal it. Few movies come to mind with such a rich, unique visual style.

The most serious flaw I could identify was the eye-straining flashing lighting in the last act, which I certainly could have done without. Well, that and the ridiculously undersized panties they put Sigourney Weaver in. Okay yeah, she's very hot and it's just sleazy eye candy, fair enough. I simply don't buy that sensible, level-headed Ripley would wear such impractical underwear.

Jones was the real star, not only for surviving, but for inventing the just-the-cat jump-scare. The whole sequence set in the dripping wet, dangling chains room really brings home how vital a dripping wet, dangling chains room is to all forms of space travel. Also, I really loved the added horror of knowing that French exists one hundred years from now on self-destruct instruction labels.

An essential of sci-fi horror. Fantastic in every regard.

What a character!: Xenomorph

I was hesitant to try and write this one. I love and fear this creature so much, I’m not entirely sure what to say that hasn’t already been more eloquently put by others. But I’ve been on an alien kick for awhile, so I should at least give it an honest attempt. The most deadly creature from beyond the stars, who’s structural perfection is only matched by it’s hostility, the xenomorph.

Red On Black

The way that the xenomorph reproduces and kills is equal parts gruesome and horrifying. The very birth of a singular alien will splatter viscera all over the area. Rarely do you ever actually see a xenomorph eat the corpses of it’s victims. The one and only thing on their minds is killing and expansion of the hive. Oh, you thinks weapons and military training is gonna save you? You’ll either get overrun by their massive numbers or sprayed by their molecular acid blood because of your desperate gunfire. When you encounter this creature, death is all but guaranteed.

There’s always another Icarus

Despite the near extinction level threat that the xenomorphs possess, there are those who choose to ignore the danger. Some are even thrilled by it. Weyland Yutani doesn’t see the downfall of mankind, they see a weapon to sell. Even after countless failures and disasters, they still try to use them to their own ends. The yautja (predators) build entire temples around them, using them to train their young. But no matter how close weyland or predators get to actually conquering these aliens, their wax wings eventually melt. But any normal, sane person who’s encountered them would much prefer their xeno eggs scrambled.

Perfect Organism

It’s unique and unsettling design is one of its best attributes. Biomechanical, pervasive, and grotesque in all the right ways. The absurd amount of saliva, the inner mouth used as a terrifying dagger, the barbed tale, it’s adaptive nature. All of it amounts to the ultimate killing machine, representing so many different fears at once; Death, assaults on our bodies, and the dark unknown.

Week 5: critical quotations and visuals of Alien by Ronnie Bitzer

The two important quotes I chose from the movie are “You still don’t understand what your dealing with, do you? The perfect organism.It’s structural perfection is matched only by its hostility”.-Ash

These quotes are important because they talk about why the group are in space to hunt an alien that is of use to the military of Earth showing traits of cunningness, unclouded by remorse, and just built by what it’s main objective is.

This clip is important by showing how the alien reproduces by finding a suitable host during the face hugger scene. Another part that is important is the clip of Alien showing the important scenes that are going to be happening in the movie.
