Sorry for the random ramblin but ggghhh can't help but get a lil pissed off when people say Athena cursed Medusa and Arachne when that was Minerva, her ROMAN counterpart. You're thinkin of the Roman versions, not the original Greek Gods!! And even so, they're just MYTHS they're cautionary tales! They don't actually represent how the Gods acted!
This ain't like Christianity where everythin said in scripture is to be taken as fact. With HelPol, the Gods aren't defined by myths made by mortals. It just pisses me off when people not only get Greek Gods confused with the Roman versions, but they take the myths so seriously too, to the point where they despise certain Gods for what they "did".
(Ramblin bout my parents' misinformation under the cut)
Unfortunately, both my parents have gotten confused with this. Yesterday, I had to clarify to my father that Apollon and Helios are, in fact, two separate Greek Gods, and Apollo is the Roman version of Apollon.
I still have yet to clarify to my ma that Athena wasn't the one who cursed Medusa and Arachne, but I feel like that'll be a little harder since she's such a devout Medusa defender. And sure, I can't blame her for that. Medusa deserved better. But I can't listen to ma spout misinformation with such conviction that it seems as though she hates Athena for somethin she didn't do.
It's cool if ma believes in the Roman versions, but it's not the Roman versions she believes in if she's callin Minerva by Athena's name. She knows I'm a follower of Athena, yet she seems to not care about or know the misinformation she's been given. At some point, I wanna educate her on the differences, but I'm afraid she won't listen. Maybe if I tell her how much it means to me, she'll listen. I hope she will since I listen to her when she talks about the deities she worships.
I'll wait until it's brought up again on its own, and then I'll see if she's willin to actually listen or not. If she doesn't, then there's not much else I can do. It's not right to try and force others into believin somethin else if they don't wanna believe you, especially when it comes to religions. And maybe she's just not ready yet. That's fine, too. It just kinda hurts to hear her act as though the wonderful Goddess I worship is some evil deity. Maybe I should apologize to Lady Athena on my mother's behalf. I'll see what I can do and offer in return for her patience and forgiveness!!
